- 0:01Speaker 1: We've got to get through this episode quickly because Liz
- 0:10Speaker 1: is needed outside on slasher duty or something, which at
- 0:13Speaker 1: Halloween is a tricky time. But I'm going to start
- 0:17Speaker 1: with a little song because it's big day in the
- 0:21Speaker 1: diamonds world and it's Kazza on the mic with diamonds.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Kazza on the mic with diamonds. I haven't made up
- 0:33Speaker 1: any of the words. So you're on No Dribble, strap in.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Music What rhymes with diamonds? Diamonds.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Diamonds. Diamonds.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 1:01Speaker 1: just make up poetry because that's how gifted we are.
- 1:04Speaker 1: My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 1:05Speaker 4: I'm Kath Cobbs.
- 1:06Speaker 5: Liz Ellison, you can tell that we are all so tired.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'm so tired. It's still Monday for us. Big night tonight.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Big night tonight.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Exciting.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I'm so excited.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Has everyone got a frock? Yes. I don't know your
- 1:20Speaker 4: frock in the hallway. You will look like a diamond.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I was trying on my dresses on the weekend to
- 1:25Speaker 1: see Do I need to go and buy a new one?
- 1:27Speaker 1: Do I need to hire one? And I still have
- 1:29Speaker 1: some lovely dresses. It's been a couple of years since
- 1:30Speaker 1: I've worn that.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I would like to wear it.
- 1:32Speaker 5: What colours are you wearing?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Oh, green and gold. No, it is actually, I'm wearing green.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Isn't it red, that one out there?
- 1:40Speaker 1: That's for another event.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Oh, my God, excuse me.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I've got a bit of fanciness coming up. My first
- 1:46Speaker 1: fanciness is I'm wearing green.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Okay, I'm wearing red. Oh, well, luckily I'm not wearing red.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I know, that would have been fun. Elizabeth, what are
- 1:52Speaker 4: you wearing to hand out very special awards?
- 1:54Speaker 5: Not green and not red.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:56Speaker 3: You don't know?
- 1:57Speaker 1: You should wear amber and then we can just pretend
- 1:59Speaker 1: we're traffic lights all night.
- 2:00Speaker 5: LAUGHTER If I had an amber dress, I absolutely would.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And that's quite funny because Kath is the tallest of
- 2:08Speaker 1: us and you'd be in the middle on amber and
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'm the shortest of us on green. So we'd be
- 2:12Speaker 1: doing a terrific job at.
- 2:13Speaker 5: The traffic light model. We'd be doing so well. Anyhoo, look,
- 2:16Speaker 5: I know it's tonight but it's Monday and I'm too
- 2:20Speaker 5: tired to think about what the time warp means.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I'll probably wear a black frock.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Nice. And you have to do, do you have to
- 2:27Speaker 4: do any other official duties other than handing out the
- 2:30Speaker 4: greatest and best award of the night?
- 2:33Speaker 3: I don't know. I'm sure someone will tell me if
- 2:36Speaker 3: I do.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Between now and Friday. Do you know, Catherine, do you
- 2:39Speaker 1: have to sing a song or anything? Is it a
- 2:41Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, is it a Rock and Roll Hall
- 2:43Speaker 1: of Fame performance for you?
- 2:46Speaker 4: No, but I did like that outfit someone AI'd me
- 2:48Speaker 4: in for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Facebook.
- 2:51Speaker 1: What was that?
- 2:51Speaker 4: Did you see that?
- 2:51Speaker 1: No.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Oh.
- 2:53Speaker 3: I don't know who put that up there.
- 2:55Speaker 5: Gets put through a very lengthy interview process on stage.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Do I?
- 3:00Speaker 3: Oh, lengthy?
- 3:01Speaker 5: Okay, maybe not lengthy.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I'm trying to scare you.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So it's just going to be me and your mum
- 3:07Speaker 1: on the drink on Friday night and you girls having
- 3:10Speaker 1: to keep yourselves nice because you've got jobs to do.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I'll remind myself it's not a No Dribble event when
- 3:15Speaker 4: I get up on stage.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Good, good, good.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Good plan.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Elizabeth, what's the actual diamond look like for the winner?
- 3:22Speaker 4: Because we're going to delve into who we think it
- 3:24Speaker 4: might be.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, but we're doing that in the second bracket.
- 3:26Speaker 3: No, I know.
- 3:26Speaker 4: We're not talking about, I just want to know about
- 3:28Speaker 4: the jewels. Is it like just a single diamond?
- 3:32Speaker 3: It's a single diamond.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so they get it set however they want, don't they?
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 3:36Speaker 5: And if you're very confident in your abilities, you say
- 3:38Speaker 5: this is the first of my diamond earrings.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Mm.
- 3:42Speaker 5: And if you're not very confident, you might go, oh,
- 3:44Speaker 5: I might just get a pendant.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Oh, I see, a pendant.
- 3:46Speaker 4: You're just going to get one nipple pierced.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Or a belly button.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Do you have to get both nipples pierced if you're
- 3:53Speaker 1: getting them pierced? You could go one belly button.
- 3:55Speaker 3: I don't know, but it makes me feel a bit queasy.
- 3:58Speaker 1: It makes me feel very– it would hurt so much.
- 4:02Speaker 1: All right, we'll talk more about that. But one of
- 4:05Speaker 1: the things we got to– so as– usually happens on
- 4:10Speaker 1: our No Dribble events is that we used to go
- 4:13Speaker 1: ask No Dribble a question and then we'd get the
- 4:14Speaker 1: bucket of questions up and we'd go through that over
- 4:17Speaker 1: the course of the evening.
- 4:18Speaker 5: Oh, yes.
- 4:18Speaker 1: The last two events, we've completely forgotten to do that.
- 4:21Speaker 1: So we get a bunch of questions and we bring
- 4:24Speaker 1: them back here. Now, one of them that I thought
- 4:27Speaker 1: we might be interested in exploring the business model of
- 4:30Speaker 1: is Could we have a no dribble retreat in Bali
- 4:33Speaker 1: with all of Gordie's tips? I don't know what we're
- 4:36Speaker 1: retreating from because that sounds like an advance to rather
- 4:40Speaker 1: than a retreat, doesn't it?
- 4:41Speaker 4: But the short answer is yes.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:43Speaker 2: All right.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But the next one was.
- 4:46Speaker 3: So hang on.
- 4:46Speaker 5: The Pilates place that I go to in Balina, they
- 4:49Speaker 5: have a Bali retreat. So I wonder if we can
- 4:51Speaker 5: be like the balancing of the Pilates.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I'm sorry, did you say pies and lattes? Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Well, they could go and do all the Pilates and
- 4:58Speaker 5: the stretching and the yoga and the meditation and we
- 5:00Speaker 5: could balance them out by being loud and not stretchy
- 5:03Speaker 5: and not exercising.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And not look after ourselves properly. Yeah, okay. I like that.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I was worried that you were going to suggest that
- 5:11Speaker 1: we would be going on a Pilates retreat.
- 5:13Speaker 5: Oh, God, no.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Pilates, I like it. It's really hard. Also quite boring,
- 5:19Speaker 1: I think.
- 5:19Speaker 5: Oh, I love Pilates. It's the only time I get
- 5:21Speaker 5: to turn my brain off, but sometimes I forget to
- 5:24Speaker 5: turn my brain off and the Pilates instructor has to
- 5:26Speaker 5: come and say, I said bend your knees, not your arms.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Oh, okay, thanks.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Good chats.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It is hard though. You know, I saw something the
- 5:36Speaker 1: other day. You know how as middle-aged women we're awake
- 5:39Speaker 1: all bloody night all the time nowadays. There was something
- 5:43Speaker 1: that it said, rather than trying to fight that, what
- 5:46Speaker 1: you should do is just go, well, I don't often
- 5:48Speaker 1: get an opportunity to just be alone with my thoughts
- 5:52Speaker 1: and try to lean into it that way and try
- 5:54Speaker 1: to get the resistance out of it. And ultimately, I
- 5:57Speaker 1: think probably bore yourself to sleep is what the intention is.
- 6:00Speaker 1: But I thought that was quite interesting. And it has
- 6:02Speaker 1: sort of changed things a bit for me when I
- 6:04Speaker 1: wake up in the middle of the night. Like I
- 6:06Speaker 1: try not to solve any problems or anything, but I
- 6:09Speaker 1: just try to think about Nice things, you know, good
- 6:12Speaker 1: memories and the like, rather than try to go to sleep,
- 6:15Speaker 1: go to sleep. What time is it now? That's another
- 6:17Speaker 1: 15 minutes. You're going to be so tired tomorrow.
- 6:20Speaker 4: I wonder if that does actually work or it would
- 6:23Speaker 4: calm your mind. You're probably not going to sleep any faster.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Well, but I think if you calm your mind, you
- 6:28Speaker 1: will go to sleep faster, won't you?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Really?
- 6:30Speaker 1: This is like the Huberman show.
- 6:32Speaker 4: What's it called?
- 6:33Speaker 1: The Huberman Lab podcast where they actually get No, they
- 6:37Speaker 1: get medical experts on to talk about things. But, again,
- 6:41Speaker 1: it's only like the Huberman Lab or whatever it's called
- 6:44Speaker 1: in the sense that it's a podcast and we've talked
- 6:46Speaker 1: about sleep. We have no qualifications.
- 6:48Speaker 4: No, we don't even expertise in the netball department, so
- 6:51Speaker 4: let's not move on to medical stuff.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I did something so stupid on Friday and I was
- 6:56Speaker 1: looking to– so we have to have insurance for this podcast,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I think.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Do we?
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we do.
- 7:03Speaker 5: We're required– great is that so like in case someone
- 7:06Speaker 5: sues us for defamation.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Or something i believe so yeah so it covers us
- 7:10Speaker 1: for that it's a um.
- 7:11Speaker 3: What about if you and katherine like hurt someone.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah if if cat if if either of us get
- 7:16Speaker 1: injured in here if i don't know.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Do we have an hr department because the only people
- 7:22Speaker 4: we defame are each.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Other each other yeah so But because we're an iHeart podcast,
- 7:28Speaker 1: we are required as part of that to have this insurance.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And it's expensive. It's like three and a half grand
- 7:33Speaker 1: a year. So last year. I put it on a
- 7:36Speaker 1: finance deal with the insurance broker I use and we
- 7:39Speaker 1: paid it over 10 months fine. And then they're sending
- 7:41Speaker 1: it again way overdue. So don't say anything slanderous in
- 7:46Speaker 1: this particular episode because I need to fix that up today.
- 7:50Speaker 1: But I was looking at it again and I thought
- 7:51Speaker 1: that's fairly expensive, that finance. I bet I can find
- 7:55Speaker 1: a way of knocking this into monthly payments more cheaply.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And I was looking at my credit card and they
- 8:01Speaker 1: have this thing, you know, I'm with ComBank, they have SurePay.
- 8:04Speaker 1: So I could put it on the credit card and
- 8:05Speaker 1: then you go, you take that off, you set up
- 8:07Speaker 1: a payment plan of three, six or 12 months, and
- 8:09Speaker 1: then there's a fee. And I looked at it and went, yep,
- 8:11Speaker 1: that fee is smaller. But while I was looking through
- 8:13Speaker 1: the app to try to remember what the hell this
- 8:15Speaker 1: product was called and to look at the T's and C's,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I was looking at the settings on my credit card.
- 8:21Speaker 1: So I've got a home one, but also a work one.
- 8:24Speaker 1: And it's like no cash advances, no international online purchases,
- 8:29Speaker 1: no problem. And then there was one that's a gambling lock.
- 8:32Speaker 1: And I thought, well, I don't gamble. But I thought, well,
- 8:34Speaker 1: if I lose the card, it's probably good to have
- 8:36Speaker 1: the gambling lock on it to have all of these
- 8:38Speaker 1: additional things. So I put the gambling lock on, then
- 8:42Speaker 1: rang up to make the payment for the insurance and
- 8:45Speaker 1: for whatever reason the product name has been confused by
- 8:48Speaker 1: the app and so I couldn't make the payment and
- 8:51Speaker 1: I had to ring them back and go, oh, yeah, sorry,
- 8:53Speaker 1: my gambling lock won't let me make this payment.
- 8:57Speaker 5: What?
- 8:57Speaker 1: You turn it off, they won't let you immediately. There's
- 9:00Speaker 1: a 48-hour cooling off period which makes perfect sense for
- 9:03Speaker 1: a gambling lock, doesn't it? You can't have a gambling
- 9:05Speaker 1: lock that someone could go, Yeah, but I'm at the
- 9:07Speaker 1: ponies right now and I want to change my mind.
- 9:10Speaker 1: So I have had to ring them back this morning
- 9:12Speaker 1: to make the payments.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Oh, my God. Whilst all this conversation was happening, all
- 9:16Speaker 4: I was thinking of is do we get frequent flyer
- 9:18Speaker 4: points with all these purchases? Do you get frequent flyer points?
- 9:23Speaker 5: We, the dribble.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Is there frequent flyer points attached to all this expenditure?
- 9:27Speaker 5: I think Carly gets it.
- 9:29Speaker 4: No, no, the dribble.
- 9:30Speaker 5: She deserves it because what do you and I do, Catherine,
- 9:33Speaker 5: to keep this podcast going?
- 9:34Speaker 3: I think the answer is bugger all.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Well, this is true, but I'm just thinking of our
- 9:38Speaker 4: retreat in Bali.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, that's true.
- 9:40Speaker 4: With the pies and the lattes.
- 9:42Speaker 1: We're a little wee way away from Bali at the moment.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Okay, can we go to Canberra?
- 9:48Speaker 1: We might be able to go and visit.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Liz, you and I.
- 9:52Speaker 5: Yay!
- 9:52Speaker 1: But there won't be any first class or, you know.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Okay. Anyway.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Liz, quick question.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 10:00Speaker 1: One came from the questions from the dribblers. So when
- 10:03Speaker 1: we go to Channel 9, I don't know why I'm
- 10:05Speaker 1: asking you, both of you, you might know this. When
- 10:07Speaker 1: we go to Channel 9 for the netball, if we
- 10:09Speaker 1: watch the game on delay, does that count? Because obviously
- 10:12Speaker 1: what we need is everybody making Channel 9 go, this
- 10:15Speaker 1: thing is raiding its socks off. We should have bought
- 10:17Speaker 1: it years ago. and then in five years' time that
- 10:19Speaker 1: they go pay whatever is required to keep this. But
- 10:23Speaker 1: how do they track it? They used to have little
- 10:25Speaker 1: boxes on people's TVs, didn't they? Originally there was diaries
- 10:30Speaker 1: and then there were boxes, but I don't know how
- 10:31Speaker 1: they assess the viewership now. Does anyone know?
- 10:35Speaker 5: No, but I do know that they count whatever the
- 10:40Speaker 5: way is to assess who's watching what on free-to-air. anything
- 10:44Speaker 5: that gets downloaded and watched on delay counts. So when
- 10:48Speaker 5: they talk about, you know, this many hundreds of thousands
- 10:52Speaker 5: of people watch a netball game and X percent is
- 10:55Speaker 5: watched live and X percent is watched on delay.
- 10:57Speaker 3: And women tend to over-index on the delay because.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Because they're busy.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Busy people.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Because we're busy, there's other things going on, there's other
- 11:04Speaker 5: people watching other sport in the house at the same time.
- 11:06Speaker 5: And then when they get to sit at night with
- 11:08Speaker 5: a glass of wine, they go, right, now I'm going
- 11:09Speaker 5: to watch the netball.
- 11:10Speaker 4: So.
- 11:11Speaker 5: It all sort of washes out in terms of being
- 11:13Speaker 5: all part of the same lot, but then everything gets
- 11:15Speaker 5: broken down into what gets live, what gets watched on delay,
- 11:20Speaker 5: what gets watched on a device as opposed to a television.
- 11:23Speaker 3: What gets watched like on streaming.
- 11:26Speaker 5: So they know all of this data. I don't know
- 11:29Speaker 5: how they get the actual free-to-air data.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Component.
- 11:32Speaker 5: My parents years ago had, when I was at channel 10,
- 11:34Speaker 5: they had like, they, they, they bring a little box
- 11:36Speaker 5: to your place and attach it to your television. And
- 11:39Speaker 5: then mum and dad had to, when they sat down
- 11:41Speaker 5: to turn on television, they had to like say how
- 11:44Speaker 5: many people were in the room watching. And so whenever
- 11:48Speaker 5: they watch netball, they just put it up to the maximum.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Twenty?
- 11:50Speaker 3: Twenty.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Well, that's what I was going to say. Even next
- 11:54Speaker 4: year when it goes to nine, if you're going to
- 11:56Speaker 4: netball all day, turn your telly on. Leave your telly
- 11:58Speaker 4: on Channel 9 and go.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And go to the game and then come home and
- 12:01Speaker 1: watch it on delay. Yes.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 5: Many, many, many times.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Many, many, many times. And watch all four games. All
- 12:10Speaker 1: four games every weekend.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Good.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Okay.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's very interesting. Thank you. And, in fact– Almost bordering
- 12:17Speaker 1: on information.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Oh, don't get too carried away.
- 12:20Speaker 2: That was. Oh, God.
- 12:21Speaker 1: It was almost bordering on information. We better be careful.
- 12:23Speaker 1: All right, we should have a little break and come
- 12:25Speaker 1: back and talk about some knit balls.
- 12:27Speaker 4: Knit balls.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Okay, so... By the time we're listening to this, the
- 12:42Speaker 1: fourth game of the CONCUP has been run and done,
- 12:45Speaker 1: whatever the outcome is there. We record on a Monday,
- 12:47Speaker 1: so we have no idea what that is at this stage.
- 12:50Speaker 1: But what we do know is that that's in Melbourne.
- 12:52Speaker 1: And then two nights later, tonight, is Netball's Night of Nights,
- 12:58Speaker 1: the Netball Australia. What's the actual event called?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Awards?
- 13:02Speaker 1: Awards night, is it?
- 13:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Network Australia Awards night.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:06Speaker 4: And this is great because I remember there was many
- 13:10Speaker 4: years similar to how they've changed the selection and how
- 13:13Speaker 4: they'd do it, they'd ring you or they'd stick it
- 13:15Speaker 4: under the door or they'd do it in the room
- 13:16Speaker 4: or whatever. We often had these nights in the midst
- 13:19Speaker 4: of training camps because everybody was here.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 4: So you couldn't really drink. You were spread out on
- 13:24Speaker 4: different tables and it wasn't overly fun for the athletes,
- 13:28Speaker 4: but this will be a real chance for them just
- 13:30Speaker 4: to go, we're done. The season has done. It's been
- 13:33Speaker 4: a bloody long year. They had a series in January.
- 13:36Speaker 4: They've had obviously a Commonwealth Games. They've just finished this series.
- 13:40Speaker 4: And they get to stay in Melbourne. They get to
- 13:42Speaker 4: get dolled up, go and have a great night and
- 13:44Speaker 4: actually celebrate with each other without any commitments whatsoever. or
- 13:48Speaker 4: trainings or anything they've got to think about. So I'm
- 13:50Speaker 4: excited for them. I really am.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Remember that Swifts dinner, which was a great night. The
- 13:55Speaker 1: three of us were all there, you two with various roles.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I was hosting a very fun table of dribblers, the
- 14:01Speaker 1: 30th anniversary dinner, and the current Swifts team came in
- 14:04Speaker 1: and said, They had a dinner, but they all had
- 14:08Speaker 1: a game, was it?
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah, the next day.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I think they had a game either the next day
- 14:11Speaker 1: or the day after. Paige stayed because Paige was still
- 14:14Speaker 1: on maternity leave at that stage. But they all came
- 14:17Speaker 1: in in their polo, so it looked like they could
- 14:20Speaker 1: do an awesome deal on some 4x4 tyres or something. But,
- 14:23Speaker 1: you know, they weren't able to really enjoy it because
- 14:27Speaker 1: they were so focused on playing. Yeah. I think I
- 14:31Speaker 1: saw maybe Katrina Rore have a little cheeky glass of wine,
- 14:35Speaker 1: but everyone else was just on performance juice, which, you know,
- 14:39Speaker 1: some of us call rosé performance juice. But, yes, so
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'm excited. And it's sort of I can't– they're all
- 14:45Speaker 1: so beautiful. And I know it doesn't matter. They're not
- 14:48Speaker 1: there to be beautiful. There is much more to all
- 14:50Speaker 1: of us than what we look like. But I love
- 14:53Speaker 1: seeing them get dressed up.
- 14:54Speaker 4: I love seeing all the frocks and stuff. What are
- 14:57Speaker 4: the awards, though? So we've got the Super Netball Player
- 15:00Speaker 4: of the Year. We have the Australian Diamonds Player of
- 15:04Speaker 4: the Year. Obviously the Liz Ellis Diamond is a combination
- 15:08Speaker 4: of who was best domestically and internationally. What else is there?
- 15:13Speaker 4: Coach of the Year.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Coach of the Year. Is there an umpire of the year?
- 15:15Speaker 3: The umpire of the year.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Is there a rookie still?
- 15:18Speaker 5: Oh, I think there might be a rookie of the year.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Well, that's Jessie Greenfield, isn't it?
- 15:23Speaker 3: Oh, has to be.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Is she still a rookie though?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Well– This was the first year of a Super.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Netball contract, wasn't it? Get out of town. Yeah. Well,
- 15:31Speaker 4: if she doesn't win that, something's not right.
- 15:34Speaker 3: The Dr.
- 15:35Speaker 5: Eve Fessel First Nations Black Swan Award is also awarded,
- 15:38Speaker 5: which is fantastic. And it's a beautiful, it's probably the
- 15:41Speaker 5: nicest award of the night other than the actual diamond.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:44Speaker 3: It's a beautiful big award.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Lots to celebrate.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I really should know and I will be given a
- 15:48Speaker 5: run sheet between now and then.
- 15:50Speaker 3: There's been a bit on.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And we didn't tell Liz what we wanted to talk
- 15:53Speaker 1: about today. When she sat down, we just started talking
- 15:55Speaker 1: about it.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, no, that's great. That's how we get the best.
- 15:58Speaker 4: We like to put it on the spot and see
- 15:59Speaker 4: what she's good at.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Nothing.
- 16:01Speaker 4: No, it's exciting though.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So Jamie Lee Price won the Liz Ellis Diamond last year.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:06Speaker 4: And I reckon could have cleaned it up had she
- 16:09Speaker 4: not missed. She's missed a few tests now with this calf.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Now that might... not help the case. Otherwise, I reckon
- 16:16Speaker 4: she would have tied.
- 16:17Speaker 3: It up easily.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Certainly hasn't helped the Constellation Cup case.
- 16:20Speaker 5: No.
- 16:20Speaker 1: They've had a rough time, the Diamonds, haven't they?
- 16:22Speaker 3: They have. They have. But, you know, someone like Maloney. Oh,
- 16:26Speaker 3: Maloney's a good pick.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 5: And I think that, well, see, JLP might still be
- 16:32Speaker 5: in the hunt. And full disclosure, I've got no idea.
- 16:34Speaker 5: I don't get any say in the award.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I don't vote. People, like, message me as if I vote.
- 16:39Speaker 3: I'm like, well, I don't know. Like, I'm not qualified
- 16:41Speaker 3: to vote.
- 16:42Speaker 5: I used to hate giving out the 3-2-1s at the
- 16:43Speaker 5: end of games when i was commentating because i always
- 16:47Speaker 5: used to have to justify myself when i picked the
- 16:49Speaker 5: goalkeeper but um but i reckon georgie horges and jesse
- 16:54Speaker 5: grenvold might have taken votes off everybody else who might
- 16:57Speaker 5: have been level pegging with jlp so jlp might have
- 17:01Speaker 5: done enough through to like match two of the con
- 17:04Speaker 5: cup and then the last two matches yeah right and
- 17:07Speaker 5: then the last three matches, maybe it's like other players
- 17:11Speaker 5: who weren't featuring early in the year have done enough.
- 17:14Speaker 3: So who knows?
- 17:15Speaker 5: And then there is some waiting between your Diamonds matches
- 17:19Speaker 5: and Super Netball as well.
- 17:21Speaker 4: Well, question around that. I don't know if you know
- 17:23Speaker 4: the answer to this, but does the Super Netball include finals?
- 17:27Speaker 4: Because it would be unfair, obviously, if there's more games
- 17:29Speaker 4: for people to get points, or is it fair?
- 17:31Speaker 3: I don't know. Don't know.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Okay.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Hmm. That would be a technical question that I don't
- 17:36Speaker 3: really know.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's a fascinating chat on No Dribble where we know enough.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And also, remember, we talked about this the other day.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Liz Ellis does not know anything about who might win
- 17:46Speaker 1: the award because she's got it wrong. She'll have the goss.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Listen, you know what?
- 17:54Speaker 5: Here's a scoop for No Dribble.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I'll tell you on Saturday morning.
- 18:01Speaker 1: You're not going to show up for work here until
- 18:03Speaker 1: Wednesday of next week.
- 18:04Speaker 5: That's true.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Okay, so it could be Jamie Lee Price. We've got
- 18:09Speaker 1: a Kate Maloney nomination. I think Georgie Horges is a
- 18:12Speaker 1: damn fine tip.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Far out.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Gosh, she's amazing, isn't she?
- 18:15Speaker 3: She's so good.
- 18:16Speaker 2: So young.
- 18:17Speaker 4: So humble.
- 18:18Speaker 1: But, yeah, it's hard to pick. So there is a
- 18:22Speaker 1: Super Netball Player of the Year. Yep. And that person
- 18:27Speaker 1: may or may not get the Liz Ellis diamond.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Yeah. And then they're– Has anyone done a clean sweep?
- 18:33Speaker 3: I'm sure they have.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Who's had it twice? Courtney Bruce. Has Liz Watson had
- 18:38Speaker 1: it twice?
- 18:38Speaker 4: Courtney Bruce has had it twice.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Lizzie's had it twice.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Yep.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Courtney's had it twice.
- 18:43Speaker 5: See, Courtney would have to be in the running.
- 18:45Speaker 4: What was the first year of it, Liz?
- 18:49Speaker 1: A while ago.
- 18:50Speaker 5: I don't know. Maybe 2008 or 2009 maybe.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Okay.
- 18:57Speaker 1: All right, I feel like we've probably reached the natural
- 19:00Speaker 1: end of this conversation other than to say Liz Ellis
- 19:03Speaker 1: probably won't wear an amber dress, but who knows. We
- 19:06Speaker 1: don't know who will be getting any of the awards,
- 19:09Speaker 1: but there will be awards and that will be great.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Catherine will be inducted into the Hall of Fame and
- 19:15Speaker 1: will be participating in a lengthy Q & A while
- 19:20Speaker 1: her mother and I play drinking games. We might pick
- 19:24Speaker 1: a game where... Every time you say a particular word,
- 19:27Speaker 1: we have to scull.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Oh, tell me what it is and I'll say it.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Okay. Oh, that would be fun.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Do you really want Francie laid out?
- 19:36Speaker 1: No, you don't.
- 19:37Speaker 3: No.
- 19:37Speaker 5: You think truth bombs get dropped at no dribble events
- 19:41Speaker 5: by other people?
- 19:42Speaker 3: Imagine if your mother.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Francie's a Cadbury drinker at the best of times. Class
- 19:47Speaker 4: and a half.
- 19:48Speaker 3: She's done.
- 19:48Speaker 2: All right.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Well, I'll try not to drop too many F-bombs in
- 19:51Speaker 1: front of her. I feel like our first meeting was
- 19:53Speaker 1: at your 50th and in my speech it was peppered
- 19:57Speaker 1: with spicy language.
- 19:59Speaker 4: The holy fuck I'm 50 sign at the door. Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 1: You set the tone. So to be fair, I was
- 20:05Speaker 1: just following what was already set up in the room.
- 20:07Speaker 2: True.
- 20:07Speaker 4: But Catherine.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yes. The AIS has made some changes and your heart
- 20:13Speaker 1: is a little bit sad.
- 20:14Speaker 4: I can't believe we haven't spoken about this yet, but
- 20:17Speaker 4: the Aussie Diamonds, when they were in camp in Canberra
- 20:19Speaker 4: before they went on tour for the Constellation Couples, posting photos,
- 20:24Speaker 4: old resis and all of her secrets, bulldozed to the ground.
- 20:30Speaker 5: I did see photos of that. I think it was time, but.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Oh, my God, if those walls could have spoken before
- 20:36Speaker 4: that happened.
- 20:36Speaker 5: Well, if those walls could talk, we would not have careers.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Like if there was social media at that time, we
- 20:41Speaker 5: would not have careers.
- 20:42Speaker 3: So, yeah. Demonstrating.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Do you know what they're doing there?
- 20:47Speaker 3: No idea, actually.
- 20:48Speaker 5: Wow. I think they might be building. Well, if I
- 20:49Speaker 5: had to guess, I think I heard something. about like
- 20:54Speaker 5: a new a new resi is being built so.
- 20:55Speaker 4: They built a new resi sport it's not being knocked
- 20:58Speaker 4: down for residential.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Oh no no i wouldn't imagine no no so the
- 21:01Speaker 5: like they redid the resis maybe like 15 years ago
- 21:04Speaker 5: and obviously buildings become obsolete so i think they might
- 21:08Speaker 5: be building like another resis um there but oh my
- 21:13Speaker 5: god do you have a favorite story catherine that you
- 21:16Speaker 5: can tell.
- 21:17Speaker 4: That's that's worthy of sharing um oh no i mean
- 21:22Speaker 4: a few more than a few stories from the institute
- 21:25Speaker 4: but not ones i could share.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Maybe they're for live events rather.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Than we'll keep those for some live events do you
- 21:31Speaker 4: know one story elizabeth sorry.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Well i yeah i do and it's not particularly naughty
- 21:38Speaker 5: but it's just anyway uh I went away– so I
- 21:43Speaker 5: lived on the bottom floor.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Yeah. So it was like– it's three or four storeys,
- 21:46Speaker 3: wasn't it?
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:47Speaker 5: It was all sort of split levelly. And I lived
- 21:48Speaker 5: on the bottom floor in my second year. And I
- 21:51Speaker 5: went away and I forgot to turn my alarm clock
- 21:54Speaker 5: off and it was set for really early because you
- 21:56Speaker 5: used to have to get up. And I lived above
- 21:58Speaker 5: Jane Fleming at the time.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Oh.
- 22:00Speaker 5: And she lived in like an apartment because the older
- 22:02Speaker 5: athletes got actual proper apartments.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Like where the house parents used to live.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it's down below me.
- 22:07Speaker 5: And I went away for like three weeks or something and–
- 22:11Speaker 5: And by that point someone had broken into my room
- 22:13Speaker 5: but it happened for about a week and it woke
- 22:16Speaker 5: her and her partner up at the time and then
- 22:19Speaker 5: someone got the spare key and got in and turned
- 22:21Speaker 5: it off. And then years later I met her and
- 22:24Speaker 5: we were talking about resis and where we lived and
- 22:27Speaker 5: I said something and she said, was that you? Oh.
- 22:33Speaker 4: So the tick that she's got all these years later
- 22:36Speaker 4: was your fault.
- 22:37Speaker 3: It was my fault.
- 22:38Speaker 5: Now, fortunately, we've patched it up and we're very close now.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, my God.
- 22:42Speaker 5: Because she's the chair of Athletics Australia now.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I feel stupid.
- 22:45Speaker 1: But how long were you there for? So you're talking
- 22:47Speaker 1: about you're in your second year there.
- 22:49Speaker 3: I was there for two years.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Yeah, okay.
- 22:51Speaker 4: I was there for one. My liver couldn't handle any
- 22:53Speaker 4: more than that.
- 22:54Speaker 1: And is it sort of like an academic year? Is
- 22:57Speaker 1: it that many types of weeks of.
- 22:59Speaker 5: What, like? I don't know what I thought, but I'm interested. No, like, okay,
- 23:03Speaker 5: so when we were there, you were there really from
- 23:06Speaker 5: like the end of January through to the start of December.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 3: And you'd go home.
- 23:11Speaker 1: On a train like Hogwarts?
- 23:13Speaker 3: No, we'd go on a bus.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 23:15Speaker 5: So like we would catch the bus to Sydney occasionally,
- 23:17Speaker 5: but not often because all the fun happened on the weekends.
- 23:20Speaker 4: But we played state league when we were there. So
- 23:22Speaker 4: we would get the bus to Sydney every Wednesday to
- 23:25Speaker 4: play in state league as a team and then get
- 23:27Speaker 4: the bus back again after we went to Sizzler. That
- 23:30Speaker 4: was the best bit.
- 23:30Speaker 3: That's right, Sizzler.
- 23:31Speaker 4: The ALS bus would pull into Sizzler, load up, get
- 23:34Speaker 4: back on.
- 23:35Speaker 5: And off you go. So some of us, like I
- 23:37Speaker 5: started my degree there, so I used to, and it
- 23:39Speaker 5: was great because.
- 23:40Speaker 3: I would have flunked the first year, but we had.
- 23:42Speaker 5: House parents who not me.
- 23:42Speaker 1: So it's affiliated with a university?
- 23:44Speaker 5: No, it's not. So there's, I mean, I think there
- 23:47Speaker 5: might be some affiliation now with the University of Canberra,
- 23:50Speaker 5: but I went to ANU and like obviously the two
- 23:53Speaker 5: unis there. So I started my uni degree. Some girls
- 23:56Speaker 5: worked and some girls studied, I think, You know, there
- 24:00Speaker 5: was one girl in our year who was still at school.
- 24:02Speaker 5: So she went to Belconnen High who were affiliated with
- 24:05Speaker 5: the AIS. So you go there for the full year
- 24:08Speaker 5: and then you break like when you have nationals. We'd
- 24:11Speaker 5: all go to our home states and go and play nationals.
- 24:15Speaker 5: But you'd spend the whole year. And so for me,
- 24:17Speaker 5: I had finished school, done my HSC. I was 18
- 24:21Speaker 5: and I was like, yay. So the first year I.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Did spend partying.
- 24:25Speaker 5: But the great thing, I'm really grateful that I stayed
- 24:28Speaker 5: the second year because that's when I learnt how to
- 24:30Speaker 5: knuckle down and actually do the work.
- 24:32Speaker 3: And by the end of my second year I.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Was in the Diamond Squad because I'd actually done the work.
- 24:38Speaker 5: as opposed to my first year where I just went, yeah, hey, hey,
- 24:40Speaker 5: I'm 18 living with.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Living alive. With the athletes, yeah.
- 24:44Speaker 1: But you weren't there at the same time?
- 24:46Speaker 5: No, no.
- 24:46Speaker 4: But I was the same. I went my first year
- 24:48Speaker 4: out of school and it was exactly the same thing.
- 24:50Speaker 4: It was like, is this place for real?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:53Speaker 4: What do you mean?
- 24:54Speaker 1: So who were you there with, Kath? Give me some–
- 24:56Speaker 1: who were your gang?
- 24:58Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. No one my year went on to play
- 25:03Speaker 4: for Australia, actually.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Well, one person did.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Oh, God, I'm just trying to think. No, no one did.
- 25:08Speaker 1: And Liz, so Jane Fleming, but obviously she's not a netballer.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Who were your netball peers?
- 25:14Speaker 2: Any of them?
- 25:15Speaker 5: I'm just thinking who went on to play for the Diamonds.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Liz Boniello did, Liz Tammer. So she was there with me.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Oh, look.
- 25:23Speaker 5: One of my best friends is coming to stay at
- 25:24Speaker 5: my house next week, Erin Colnade.
- 25:26Speaker 3: She played for the Swifts. She doesn't call her Betty though.
- 25:29Speaker 2: No, no.
- 25:30Speaker 3: No, she does not call me Betty.
- 25:31Speaker 1: She's not in the Betty envelope.
- 25:32Speaker 5: So she was there. Who else was there? Oh, Raylene
- 25:38Speaker 5: Fanning was there who is now Raylene. Sorry, Raylene Mullaney
- 25:41Speaker 5: was there and she's now Raylene Fanning and her daughter
- 25:43Speaker 5: Matilda is.
- 25:44Speaker 3: A training partner for the Sirens.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Very cool.
- 25:47Speaker 5: So we do laugh that we feel like the Australian
- 25:49Speaker 5: government did set up a bit of a breeding program
- 25:51Speaker 5: to get all these athletes together. So Raylene married a
- 25:54Speaker 5: water polo player and now their kids are good athletes.
- 25:58Speaker 5: People like Tracy Bruce who played or Tracy Foran she
- 26:00Speaker 5: was then, Tracy Bruce, she married a swimmer and she
- 26:03Speaker 5: went on to play for, like she played for Queensland
- 26:05Speaker 5: and she now works up there.
- 26:07Speaker 3: I'm just trying to remember.
- 26:08Speaker 5: Ingrid, she was Ingrid Dick then. She's now Ingrid Dick.
- 26:12Speaker 5: I can't remember her married name. She is like the
- 26:16Speaker 5: general manager for Fever. So lots of women.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Okay, yeah.
- 26:19Speaker 5: Nat Avelino was there who played for Australia. There's another
- 26:22Speaker 5: one who played for Australia. Sorry, Av, I missed you. So, yeah,
- 26:25Speaker 5: there was like we had a really fun bunch of
- 26:28Speaker 5: women and lots of whom still sort of are in
- 26:30Speaker 5: or around the sport now.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Oh, how cool.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't know that.
- 26:34Speaker 1: That sounds amazing.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Oh, it was so good.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Like halls of residence but just for like really fit,
- 26:39Speaker 1: good-looking people.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Well, you know what's funny?
- 26:42Speaker 5: Catherine and I lost over all the distraction and all
- 26:46Speaker 5: the other stuff. But one of the things that Gay Teed,
- 26:48Speaker 5: who was our coach, the first thing she said to
- 26:50Speaker 5: us was the very first day we had a meeting
- 26:53Speaker 5: and she said, ladies, welcome to the Australian Institute of Sport.
- 26:56Speaker 5: And we thought she was going to tell us something
- 26:57Speaker 5: really deep and meaningful about netball and she said, Welcome
- 27:00Speaker 5: to the Australian Institute of Sport. It's a smorgasbord of
- 27:03Speaker 5: men down here. Please don't make pigs of yourselves.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Not wrong, Gay T, not wrong.
- 27:10Speaker 1: We're going to run out of time, so we need
- 27:12Speaker 1: to take a little break and then come back and
- 27:13Speaker 1: I want to talk about something really cool that I
- 27:15Speaker 1: saw online this week. So I saw something.
- 27:30Speaker 4: I need to tell a funny story too, but you go.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Do you?
- 27:32Speaker 4: Yeah. It's not funny. It's really sad, but go.
- 27:34Speaker 3: All right.
- 27:35Speaker 1: We'll wrap up with that, but I want to talk
- 27:37Speaker 1: about something that I saw and it was actually, I
- 27:40Speaker 1: saw it on Georgie Trickett's social media. So Georgie Trickett
- 27:43Speaker 1: and Libby Trickett have the Sportish podcast, which you should
- 27:46Speaker 1: listen to, but it's this campaign called While I Bled
- 27:50Speaker 1: and it is, and in fact I saw that I
- 27:52Speaker 1: think it's Kira Austin and Amy Parmenter had done an
- 27:56Speaker 1: ad for it. I saw that. Australian charity The COVID
- 27:58Speaker 1: Project and advertising agency Act 3 have cooked up a
- 28:01Speaker 1: campaign called While I Bled, a social media campaign with
- 28:04Speaker 1: one very simple goal, to break down the barriers caused
- 28:07Speaker 1: by periods that keep girls out of sport in Australia
- 28:10Speaker 1: and all over the globe. The campaign is supported by
- 28:12Speaker 1: amazing women in sport like Libby Trickett, Chloe Dalton, Keira Austin,
- 28:16Speaker 1: Amy Parmenter, Georgie Trickett, Megan Hustwaite, Hanny Watson and more,
- 28:20Speaker 1: who are loudly telling the truth about sporting moments that
- 28:22Speaker 1: happened to them while they were on their period. A game,
- 28:26Speaker 1: a race, a trial, a Tuesday night training session, all
- 28:29Speaker 1: the stuff we've quietly navigated forever and never said out loud.
- 28:33Speaker 1: A Federation University study found 62.8% of girls aged 10
- 28:37Speaker 1: to 16 have missed training because of their period. 91.5%
- 28:41Speaker 1: worry about leaking through their uniform and nearly one in
- 28:44Speaker 1: five have considered quitting sport altogether. We can shift that,
- 28:48Speaker 1: but not while everyone is whispering about it. So all
- 28:52Speaker 1: of these amazing women are coming out and talking about
- 28:56Speaker 1: sporting moments that had to, and it's not all elite
- 28:59Speaker 1: sporting moments or the like. It's actually about things that
- 29:03Speaker 1: they did while they were having their period. And I
- 29:08Speaker 1: think it's a really interesting campaign and a great, very
- 29:14Speaker 1: worthwhile thing. It's crazy that over 50% of the population
- 29:20Speaker 1: have periods, but we barely talk about it.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Oh, it still made me cringe hearing this.
- 29:25Speaker 5: It's interesting, isn't it?
- 29:26Speaker 4: Yes, because it's our generation.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Because remember when we were teenagers and I was there
- 29:31Speaker 1: before you, but like the tampon commercials, and it's still
- 29:34Speaker 1: very rare for a tampon commercial to talk about blood.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Tampon commercials, when I was growing up, it was all
- 29:40Speaker 1: about frolicking on the beach because, you know, the tampons
- 29:43Speaker 1: could free you from the tyranny of your period and
- 29:46Speaker 1: get out there. But we have been conditioned not to
- 29:49Speaker 1: talk about it and I think that these sorts of
- 29:52Speaker 1: campaigns will help the younger generations potentially talk more about it.
- 29:56Speaker 5: Yeah, so that's funny, isn't it? When I did Celebrity...
- 30:00Speaker 5: My charity was Share the Dignity, and they basically distribute
- 30:05Speaker 5: period products to people who need them. And they also
- 30:08Speaker 5: do things like It's in the Bag, which I think
- 30:10Speaker 5: is this month.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Oprah's just got one.
- 30:12Speaker 5: I just sent one, yeah, which is really exciting. So
- 30:15Speaker 5: if you're in your shops, buy a bag and take
- 30:17Speaker 5: it to your local Bunnings and donate it there. So
- 30:20Speaker 5: these bags are given to women who are fleeing domestic
- 30:22Speaker 5: violence or who are fleeing a number of other things.
- 30:26Speaker 5: But So they're really valuable and you write a little
- 30:28Speaker 5: note and I do it with my daughter and it's
- 30:30Speaker 5: just such a meaningful thing for us to do and
- 30:33Speaker 5: go and give our bags. But when I did it,
- 30:37Speaker 5: Michelle Courtney, who's the CEO of it, she was so
- 30:41Speaker 5: happy because she could never get on like morning TV
- 30:45Speaker 5: because they're like, oh, we can't talk about periods on
- 30:47Speaker 5: morning TV. We can't talk about periods on primetime. So
- 30:50Speaker 5: she was so pleased that menstruating was being talked about
- 30:54Speaker 5: on primetime, which is so amazing, isn't it? Like it's
- 30:57Speaker 5: like happens to half of us. We should be talking
- 31:00Speaker 5: about it. So I love the while I bled. I
- 31:02Speaker 5: was trying to think about what I'd say, but I
- 31:03Speaker 5: got my period so.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Long ago that I can't remember anything that I did
- 31:07Speaker 3: while having my periods.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Yeah. You were being a superstar whilst it was happening,
- 31:11Speaker 4: that's for sure. One thing to remember. But I feel
- 31:13Speaker 4: like this generation is far more relaxed about it anyway.
- 31:16Speaker 4: The way my niece talks about it, it's to the
- 31:18Speaker 4: point you're like, okay, stop. We actually don't need to
- 31:22Speaker 4: know the specifics like that. So it is great to
- 31:25Speaker 4: see that. But it's funny how when you mentioned it,
- 31:28Speaker 4: when I saw those ads, I still did cringe.
- 31:30Speaker 5: As a grown-up.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it is interesting. So Ben Elton, who is a
- 31:32Speaker 1: British comedian and writer, although he's Australian now, he's lived
- 31:35Speaker 1: in Perth for so long that I think we can
- 31:37Speaker 1: claim him as our own, but he used to have
- 31:38Speaker 1: a great stand-up bit about– you know, if men got periods,
- 31:42Speaker 1: we would just be talking about it so often. You know,
- 31:44Speaker 1: I was strolling out to bat and I got my
- 31:46Speaker 1: period and of course my whites were ruined. And he's
- 31:48Speaker 1: so right that this is, I don't know why we've
- 31:52Speaker 1: not talked about this for so long, but I love
- 31:54Speaker 1: that this campaign is about sort of, you know, trying
- 31:57Speaker 1: to break down the stigma and make girls feel more
- 32:02Speaker 1: comfortable talking about it. I've seen a great campaign, ad
- 32:05Speaker 1: campaign that came out of India recently about a young
- 32:09Speaker 1: boy having to run to the shops to get some
- 32:12Speaker 1: sanitary pads for his mum and his peers laughing about
- 32:15Speaker 1: it and then him going, well, why would you laugh
- 32:18Speaker 1: about that? I'm just helping my mum. And then they
- 32:21Speaker 1: all went, yeah, I don't know why I'm laughing about that.
- 32:23Speaker 1: So it's great that we're getting this increased conversation and
- 32:28Speaker 1: good work, Gina, and thank you so much for sending
- 32:31Speaker 1: us that. And so if you see some While I
- 32:33Speaker 1: Bled stuff on social media, Share it. Let's amplify this
- 32:37Speaker 1: campaign for them.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Well said.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Well said.
- 32:41Speaker 1: So what's your funny story?
- 32:42Speaker 4: Well, it's a big departure, so I'm not sure if
- 32:44Speaker 4: it's appropriate now, but it also happened in the bathroom.
- 32:51Speaker 1: And was it in your last week of work with Fox?
- 32:53Speaker 4: Oh, stop. Yeah, so it's been a good fun last week. But, Liz,
- 32:57Speaker 4: I was telling Carol, and I can't believe we forgot
- 32:59Speaker 4: to mention it last week, but... um so you know
- 33:02Speaker 4: when you're in studio you have a lapel mic on
- 33:04Speaker 4: so you don't you don't have a handheld mic yes
- 33:09Speaker 4: so when you have a handheld mic you put that
- 33:11Speaker 4: down no one can hear you right um if you've
- 33:13Speaker 4: got a lapel mic anything you do they can hear
- 33:16Speaker 4: i forgot that so we were just about to go
- 33:19Speaker 4: to air i had to go to the bathroom in
- 33:21Speaker 4: the bathroom oh it's a little bit gassy so a
- 33:24Speaker 4: little something something snuck out And then I realised that
- 33:32Speaker 4: I had it on and was just like, oh, fuck.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Can you imagine being the sound guy?
- 33:39Speaker 4: I know. I went back in and obviously I couldn't.
- 33:42Speaker 4: So I sat back down at the panel with Kim
- 33:44Speaker 4: and it was with Paige. And I couldn't say anything
- 33:46Speaker 4: because then they could actually hear me talking about it.
- 33:48Speaker 4: So I had to write it down and show Kim
- 33:51Speaker 4: and she was.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Crying, laughing.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Anyway, the following game we were in there and one
- 33:57Speaker 4: of the audio women that I know who's top, she
- 34:00Speaker 4: was on duty and I told her the story and
- 34:02Speaker 4: she goes, I'm pretty sure you can't hear in the bathroom.
- 34:05Speaker 4: She goes, let me check. She ran in there. She
- 34:07Speaker 4: put a mic pack in there and comes back out.
- 34:10Speaker 4: And then she comes to see me. She goes, you
- 34:12Speaker 4: can hear. Oh, no, I died. So I've left Fox
- 34:21Speaker 4: coincidentally with my tail between my legs. Oh, no.
- 34:30Speaker 5: Oh, those stories.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Don't you love it?
- 34:32Speaker 1: Catherine, we're all human beings.
- 34:34Speaker 3: All mics are live, even in the toilet.
- 34:36Speaker 1: All mics are live.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Which is good to remember if you remember you're wearing one.
- 34:40Speaker 5: Yes.
- 34:41Speaker 3: Oh, that's so funny.
- 34:42Speaker 5: Well done. Well done, Coxie.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Mic drop moment.
- 34:45Speaker 5: Well, we should.
- 34:46Speaker 1: We should let these microphones have a little rest for
- 34:48Speaker 1: a week or so. That's all we've got time for. But, yeah,
- 34:52Speaker 1: by the time when we come back next week, I
- 34:54Speaker 1: don't know whether Catherine will join us. She'll be too fancy.
- 34:57Speaker 1: She'll be such a Hall of Famer. She might need
- 34:58Speaker 1: to go to the United States or something to celebrate.
- 35:01Speaker 1: You're here next week, aren't you?
- 35:02Speaker 4: I'm here next week, yeah. Looking forward to.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Hearing all about Vegas. But, anyway, thanks for joining us.
- 35:07Speaker 1: My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 35:09Speaker 4: I'm Kath Cox and that's Betty. Thanks, guys.
- 35:11Speaker 5: See you, Kathy.
- 35:19Speaker 1: So Liz, we'll ask her to tell us what it
- 35:21Speaker 1: really sounded like, but what do you reckon Catherine's fart
- 35:24Speaker 1: would sound like?
- 35:25Speaker 5: I know what Catherine's fart would sound like.
- 35:30Speaker 1: And you don't need a microphone for that.
- 35:33Speaker 5: Ah, no. Enough of them. So is it a.
- 35:37Speaker 1: No, it's far more.
- 35:40Speaker 5: But it's still, I don't know what to say with
- 35:43Speaker 5: that sounding really crass. It's not like big and floppy. Like,
- 35:46Speaker 5: you know, sometimes people fart and you feel like you're
- 35:49Speaker 5: hearing the reverberation.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Oh, dear.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Should we call time on this? I could probably ring
- 36:03Speaker 4: the Fox audio.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Department and get them to cut it out for us. Fantastic.
- 36:07Speaker 5: Oh, dear.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
