- 0:00Back with Gino Riama here on the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show. Huskies will
- 0:04take on the Maryland Terrapins tomorrow night. Gamble Pavilion will go in there at
- 0:09six dep Fist joins me for the broadcast and then at six thirty for the
- 0:14Huskies and the terra Pins. Two teams coming off losses. Uh, the
- 0:18team they lost to pretty darn good so far this year. But let's talk
- 0:22Maryland. Are they a lot like NC State? You know, I mean
- 0:25size wise their comparative, But do they play a fairly similar style or are
- 0:29they totally different from what you saw on Sunday? I don't know that.
- 0:36Maybe they have as many big bodies on that that play a lot like NC
- 0:44State. Did you know they had a couple of big kids? But right
- 0:47similar? I think that you know, the size wise, you know,
- 0:51Sellers may be the same size as Sinaia Rivers, you know. So yeah,
- 0:57a lot of six one, six two, Yeah, so you've got
- 1:00you know, you've got that, and so there's not a lot of six
- 1:03five kids or six four kids, you know, big kids, but you've
- 1:07got a pretty good set of wings and guards, and that's where their strength
- 1:12is. And you know, they're they're not that much different than they were
- 1:22last year. It's just that the people have changed. You know. You
- 1:25could say, well, Sellers is just like Diamond Miller. You know,
- 1:32there's Maryland is always talented, they're always good, they're always competitive, and
- 1:40they're going to compete. And you know, like you said, we're coming
- 1:47off a loss where we played very very very very poorly. They're coming off
- 1:53a loss to I think the best team in the country that I've seen this
- 1:57year. So it'd be interesting to see, you know, how how it
- 2:05plays out. Yeah, when you'd like you see a tape of like Maryland
- 2:09in South Carolina, you've been around the long enough, I think I know
- 2:13the answer this. Do you'd make little mental notes to yourself down the road
- 2:16of what you're going to see with South Carolinas seeing as you play them later
- 2:20in the season. Boy, they've looked good against two pretty good programs.
- 2:23Yeah, I think you always do. I think you always. You know,
- 2:27if you see a game, you're always trying to think, you know,
- 2:31what are what are some of the places where you can exploit take advantage
- 2:39of And sometimes you look and you go, yeah, we have the perfect
- 2:45team to exploit some of their weaknesses. And then you look at at a
- 3:00team and you say, they're completely different in makeup, and then there was
- 3:09style of play and everything that that that team might do that you go,
- 3:17we don't have an answer for that. And that's does to mean that you
- 3:23can't win. It's just it's going to be really really hard because the matchups
- 3:29are not going to be very very good. Right, they still have some
- 3:31size, but boy, they pushed the ball and just a very different team
- 3:35this season. Uh. You know, then Minnesota, you go for Gonna
- 3:38Williams Arena. We've never been to Minneapolis, I don't think, other than
- 3:43the final fours, you've never played in Minneapolis before? Correct, No,
- 3:46we never have, just uh two final fours, but not not a regular
- 3:53season game in Minneapolis. No, you're playing at the Barn now, obviously,
- 3:59I think Lindsay the coach when you set this up, correct, Yeah?
- 4:02Yeah, And it's funny because we practiced in the Barn nineteen ninety five
- 4:12when we played there the first time for a national championship. So I've been
- 4:19in there, but none of these players, none this program has never played
- 4:27a game there against Minnesota. Has page ever played in that building in high
- 4:30school, even in high school. Maybe it's a good question. I've not
- 4:34I've not asked her. You would assume, yes, that she probably has.
- 4:42But you know how many high school gross basketball games have been playing in
- 4:48gamble, you know, so some some states do it different than others.
- 4:56And maybe maybe she has played a game in the or maybe all their playoff
- 5:02games and all their championship format games are in you know, smaller arenas.
- 5:12Yeah, how big is the barn? Do you remember how big it is?
- 5:15Well, it's got to be over twelve, it's got to be over
- 5:19twelve. But I don't remember. I can't imagine that a big ten facility,
- 5:27you know, would not be twelve to fourteen thousand. And is this
- 5:30one of those unusual arenas where the bench area is below? It is not
- 5:35unlike you know, when we play a butler, you know, where you've
- 5:39got to step up a little bit to get on the court, right,
- 5:42And we've been Purdue. I think Purdue was like that. It was the
- 5:45same, correct, So it's it's a weird thing, you know. And
- 5:53I don't know that I'm prepared to put a chair on up top there,
- 5:57but I might have to. I don't know, but yeah, it's one
- 6:03of the weird things. The other is when you know, we played at
- 6:06Vanderbilt and you're on the baseline, oh yeah, And depending on how your
- 6:13team is playing, when they're all the way down at the other end,
- 6:15you might not want to be that close to them. So, who knows,
- 6:17maybe it's a benefit final segment with Gino coming up as you're listening to
- 6:21the Wells Fargo you kind of women's basketball coaches show from lear Field
