- 4:38Education convened for its regularly monthly meeting last Thursday, where
- 4:42members selected this year's board chair and vice chair, observed
- 4:46School Board Recognition Month, and received a series of financial
- 4:51and instructional reports, including the district's FY twenty twenty four
- 4:57to twenty five audit, se SIP and CDIP updates, and
- 5:04an early look at the FY twenty twenty six twenty
- 5:07seven draft budget. During Superintendent's report, Superintendent Travis Wilder recognized
- 5:14January as Board Appreciation Month, sharing sediments prepared by District Principles.
- 5:19We just wanted to say thank you to the board
- 5:22members for all their service, said Wilder. Mayor Ramis is
- 5:27going to be drafting the resolution at the next city
- 5:30Council meeting, thanking them for their service. Thank you board
- 5:34members for all that you do for our community. Following
- 5:38Wilder's remarks, each board member received a gift from District
- 5:43Principles as an additional token of appreciation. When deciding on
- 5:48the selection of board chair and vice chair, members opted
- 5:52to continue with Chair Carsile Burchad and Vice chair Paul Taylor,
- 5:57which was approved unanimously. Financial matters followed with Beth Francis
- 6:03and Patrick and associates presenting the findings of the district's
- 6:07two thousand and five audit. We look at all the
- 6:10internal controls, grants, and we can look at individuals, school
- 6:14activity funds, kind of hits everywhere, said Francis. Everything was
- 6:19in good order. I didn't find any issues. Based on
- 6:23the review, the district received an unmodified opinion, the highest
- 6:27rating possible in an audit. Chief Financial Officer Ronda Moore
- 6:33then provided an overview of the FY twenty twenty six
- 6:39twenty seven draft budget, emphasizing that the document is preliminary
- 6:44and intended for review purposes only. We are very very
- 6:48closely monitoring the state budget and obviously the federal government.
- 6:53I was watching the news before I came and the
- 6:56bills that have already been compiled in three days to
- 7:00see how those will impact state funding, said More. This
- 7:03budget doesn't have to be approved, it's just to review.
- 7:10It's very high level. It's basically just starting my list,
- 7:14and that includes everything from payroll, to utilities, to instructional
- 7:18resources and SROs. More likened of the process to compiling
- 7:24of Santa's Good List and bad list, noting that clearer
- 7:28direction should come by men to late April, once state
- 7:32budget expectations are known, which will ultimately shape options for
- 7:37the teachers and staff. The board also heard updates on
- 7:41the Comprehensive School Improvement Plans the CSIP and the Comprehensive
- 7:48District Improvement Plans CDIP, presented by wd Superintendent Cynthia Davis,
- 7:55alongside principles from each school. Each year, the district part
- 8:00anticipates in a District Improvement Plan and then the schools
- 8:04have to participate in school improvement plans, said Davis. Those
- 8:08are year long process that takes place. There are four phases.
- 8:13We are entering Phase four. Beginning in January, but we
- 8:17have completed the first three phases and that's where a
- 8:20lot of the work goes into place in determining the
- 8:23needs of actual schools. Davis explaining that Phase one involves
- 8:28diagnostics and executive summaries, followed by needs assessment and safety
- 8:33planning in phase two. Phase three focuses on implementing improvement
- 8:38plans and goals, with Phase four centered on monitoring and
- 8:43refinement across the reports from each principal. Common goals for
- 8:48the twenty twenty five twenty six school year included increasing
- 8:52reading and math proficiency, improving school climate and safety scores,
- 8:57expanding high quality professional wants learning for teachers, strengthening instructional strategies,
- 9:03and enhancing support for students with disability. The board also
