- 0:12Speaker 3: Good morning, Suasie, Susie, good morning.
- 0:14Speaker 2: How are you very well? Gosh, you've been touring for
- 0:17Speaker 2: more than fifty years?
- 0:19Speaker 3: What excuse me? Oh, sixty to sixty.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Two years, sixty two, many of them to this part
- 0:26Speaker 4: of the world.
- 0:27Speaker 3: This is my forty second tour of Australia.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Oh my goodness.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Well, actually, you know you've Australian audiences have always had
- 0:35Speaker 1: a very special connection with you.
- 0:36Speaker 2: What do you think that what resonated right from the beginning.
- 0:39Speaker 5: I have analyzed that many times. I think I'm real
- 0:44Speaker 5: and you're real.
- 0:45Speaker 3: That's the only reason I can come up. I get you,
- 0:47Speaker 3: you get me?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, we like to keep it that simple, I think,
- 0:51Speaker 1: because I think so too.
- 0:53Speaker 4: If we go back to that first sort of charting album,
- 0:57Speaker 4: which was about seventy three, I mean it didn't really
- 0:59Speaker 4: chart that well in America. It wasn't that high top ten,
- 1:03Speaker 4: number five. I think it made to Australia and also
- 1:06Speaker 4: I guess maybe there's that connection to a couple of
- 1:08Speaker 4: those early hits were co written by an Australian for.
- 1:11Speaker 3: You, Yes, by Mike Chapman chap Nikki Chin.
- 1:14Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, we had a long association making me actually
- 1:18Speaker 5: and yeah, America took it a little bit a while
- 1:20Speaker 5: to catch up, but then they did catch up.
- 1:22Speaker 4: Oh yeah they did.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so sixty don't forget.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I was don't forget. I was based on this
- 1:29Speaker 3: side of the world. Ah everything, you know.
- 1:32Speaker 5: I was going over to Europe, Australia, Japan, that that,
- 1:35Speaker 5: and then I finally got back to America in seventy four.
- 1:38Speaker 3: So I had a year hits and I think I'll
- 1:41Speaker 3: shook up. Got into the charts. They got into the
- 1:43Speaker 3: lower run. They weren't a big until stumbled in and
- 1:46Speaker 3: then that was huge.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Oh boy, wasn't.
- 1:49Speaker 1: It sixty plus years turing? You still get that buzz
- 1:54Speaker 1: when you walk out. I guess if you didn't get
- 1:56Speaker 1: the buzz, that would be the sign that it was
- 1:59Speaker 1: time to start.
- 2:00Speaker 3: There's no reason to do it. I don't have to
- 2:02Speaker 3: do it.
- 2:03Speaker 5: I don't I don't need to do this. I do
- 2:05Speaker 5: it because I genuinely have a love for what I do.
- 2:09Speaker 5: The fire is in my belly. I have the need
- 2:11Speaker 5: for what I do. Nothing pleases more than going out
- 2:14Speaker 5: there and taking those people on a journey and seeing
- 2:18Speaker 5: them smile and leave happy.
- 2:19Speaker 3: That's what's my life's all about.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Yeah, and obviously you continue the tour after a forty
- 2:26Speaker 4: second you know, tour, still recording as well. New album
- 2:29Speaker 4: out this year called Freedom, which is available on all
- 2:33Speaker 4: the formats, although you might struggle to find it on cassette,
- 2:35Speaker 4: but little stream and on vital it's not like the
- 2:40Speaker 4: early album, but it's on vinyl.
- 2:43Speaker 3: It's on vinyl. It's on vinyl, and it's not very
- 2:46Speaker 3: very well. It's charted.
- 2:47Speaker 5: And I'm really proud of this album because it's gone
- 2:50Speaker 5: full circle. That's what everybody's loving about it. It's gone
- 2:53Speaker 5: back to what you first bought.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Oh good, good.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Which is final going full circle too. Maybe we will
- 3:00Speaker 2: set back.
- 3:01Speaker 1: One day, Maybe we'll be winding that thing back onto
- 3:04Speaker 1: the tape as we're driving.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah, with a pencil.
- 3:08Speaker 1: You've had a lot of hits, obviously, is there any
- 3:11Speaker 1: particular one.
- 3:12Speaker 2: That's like your favorite child? You just love doing it
- 3:15Speaker 2: that little tiny bit more than the others.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Yeah, if you're talking about my hits only, I think
- 3:22Speaker 5: the one that always resonates with me is when I go, hey,
- 3:26Speaker 5: I want to go down to double Get Yeah, Bunce,
- 3:29Speaker 5: you can't beat that.
- 3:30Speaker 3: You know what's going to happen. And there's a moment
- 3:32Speaker 3: in can the count as well that I wait for
- 3:34Speaker 3: where I do my scream, and when I scream, the
- 3:37Speaker 3: audience go yeah, because I wait for the scream. I
- 3:40Speaker 3: know a lot of people don't wait for my scream.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I tell you, it must feel good to have influenced
- 3:48Speaker 4: so many female rockers over the years, who hold you
- 3:52Speaker 4: on a you know, put you on a pedestal that
- 3:54Speaker 4: must give you a great sense of satisfaction in a
- 3:57Speaker 4: long career.
- 3:59Speaker 5: Yes, And it wasn't until you know I always very
- 4:02Speaker 5: honest about this. I grew up in a musical family.
- 4:04Speaker 5: I had no idea I was doing anything unusual. My
- 4:08Speaker 5: dad gave me my first bass guitar with his blessing,
- 4:11Speaker 5: so I didn't know I was changing the world. And
- 4:13Speaker 5: it wasn't until my documentary came out in two nineteen
- 4:17Speaker 5: and I went to the premiere at the Regent Theater
- 4:20Speaker 5: and I snuck in to watch it with the audience
- 4:22Speaker 5: because I was booked to come up at the end
- 4:25Speaker 5: of question in a but I snuck in and then
- 4:27Speaker 5: I saw all these women. I was sixty nine when
- 4:31Speaker 5: that came out. I saw Debbie Harry, I saw Katie Tonstall,
- 4:34Speaker 5: I saw Sharika jon jet Racy hind all through the
- 4:39Speaker 5: film and then they all I'm my mouth is hanging open,
- 4:43Speaker 5: and they all basically said the same thing.
- 4:45Speaker 3: They all said. They all said I.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Would not have done, but I did, had Susie Quatra
- 4:51Speaker 5: not done at first, And then I was in tears much.
- 4:56Speaker 2: That's because yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 5: At sixty nine, the penny finally yeah, yeah, Okay, now
- 5:02Speaker 5: I get it. Now I say thank you. I accept
- 5:05Speaker 5: the accolade. I accept it humbly, and I will proudly
- 5:08Speaker 5: take that to my grief.
- 5:09Speaker 2: That's nice. I have to I have to ask one.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I mean another one of the reasons I think why
- 5:14Speaker 1: Australia loves you so much is Leather Tuscadero. I can't
- 5:21Speaker 1: help it. What a great I mean, an incredible show.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Happy days. We loved it. I have had the great
- 5:27Speaker 1: pleasure in this job of interviewing Henry Winkler, and he
- 5:29Speaker 1: is one of the most seemingly genuinely loveliest people that
- 5:35Speaker 1: I have ever spoken to. Do you ever get the
- 5:38Speaker 1: chance still to catch up with him or any of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the people associated with those days?
- 5:45Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm very good friends with I'm very good friends
- 5:48Speaker 5: with Henry and Ronnie. We email all the time. Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 5: they're both given them. They're given me quotes, both of
- 5:53Speaker 5: them for my books.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Speak. We talk.
- 5:56Speaker 5: We discuss Dannie and Anson too. I've made four good
- 6:00Speaker 5: asking friendships on that show.
- 6:01Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 6:02Speaker 4: And it's one of those shows. I mean that that
- 6:04Speaker 4: you know, the show is a while ago now, but
- 6:05Speaker 4: it's it's still in the What would.
- 6:07Speaker 2: You say that it is still? Yeah, because it's a
- 6:12Speaker 2: last nice show.
- 6:15Speaker 3: It's a great show.
- 6:16Speaker 5: I was.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I was honored to be part of that. That was
- 6:18Speaker 3: my first acting job.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Nice.
- 6:20Speaker 5: And I actually asked Ronnie one time we were talking
- 6:23Speaker 5: and I said, Okay, I'm gonna.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Pick your brain.
- 6:25Speaker 5: I said, did I ever feel like a new actress?
- 6:28Speaker 5: He said no, Wow, I said, did I ever did
- 6:31Speaker 5: I feel like I was new to the show?
- 6:33Speaker 3: And he said, no, that's the strangest thing. You felt.
- 6:37Speaker 3: It felt like you were part of that show. From
- 6:39Speaker 3: the beginning. Everybody said that it was a natural thing.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Wasn't it just yes, it was totally natural.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Well, uh, free I present, interesting setting, beautiful setting.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Really well, you know it's unique, it's unique. It's a
- 6:52Speaker 2: unique setting. What's the most unique setting you've ever played in?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Do you think?
- 6:57Speaker 5: Well, when Glassnose just began in shirt one of the
- 7:01Speaker 5: first we were one of the first Western bands to
- 7:04Speaker 5: be allowed allowed to play there, okay, And and so
- 7:07Speaker 5: they were allowing the promoter to make money, you know
- 7:09Speaker 5: if it's a whole change in Russia. And then they
- 7:12Speaker 5: didn't like it that the promoter was making money.
- 7:16Speaker 3: They can't.
- 7:17Speaker 5: They canceled one of the shows that were sold out
- 7:20Speaker 5: for three notes, and so the and so the guy
- 7:22Speaker 5: had to rent a circus tent and I played my
- 7:26Speaker 5: basol running around the ring.
- 7:31Speaker 2: You do elephant you and know what, Susie?
- 7:34Speaker 4: Yes, And you do know that when you play free
- 7:36Speaker 4: O Prison, it's not not like Johnny Cash, the crowd
- 7:39Speaker 4: will be free to leave after the show.
- 7:44Speaker 3: It's not like I have I am thinking I'm thinking
- 7:47Speaker 3: about doing Jo House Rocket.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yes, you absolutely should should. Well it is Sunday, December
- 7:55Speaker 1: the sixth. Tickets are through face to face touring as
