- 0:00Speaker 1: Anyway, we continue on this Tuesday, and as I mentioned
- 0:02Speaker 1: at the top of the show, we were going to
- 0:04Speaker 1: let you hear from long worn players because this is
- 0:05Speaker 1: the best opportunity to hear from them now leading up
- 0:08Speaker 1: to this national semifinal of the College Football Playoff, that
- 0:12Speaker 1: being the Cotton Bowl in Arlington at Jerry World on
- 0:16Speaker 1: Friday evening at six point thirty before we hear from
- 0:19Speaker 1: another one of quinn yours receiving targets, namely tight end gunner. Here,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I want to hear from one of the guys who
- 0:25Speaker 1: protects and namely the most decorated of the offensive lineman,
- 0:28Speaker 1: the Lombardi Award winner, the Atlan Trophy winner, that, of
- 0:32Speaker 1: course would be the anchor on the left side, the
- 0:34Speaker 1: left tackle, Calvin Banks.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Kevin.
- 0:36Speaker 3: A moment ago, Jake was here and he told us
- 0:38Speaker 3: that everybody showed up the day after the Arizona State
- 0:43Speaker 3: game with a chip on the shoulder determined to get
- 0:45Speaker 3: the run game back. Could you feel that, and if so,
- 0:49Speaker 3: what will gives you confidence? What have you seen over
- 0:51Speaker 3: the past few days that leads you to believe it's back.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Yeah, like you said, we didn't put our best foot
- 0:57Speaker 4: forward in that game and the biggest thing Coastart. We
- 0:59Speaker 4: want us to kind of emphasized with the run game,
- 1:02Speaker 4: and I feel like we didn't do that. So we
- 1:04Speaker 4: definitely had a chip on our shoulder for sure, because
- 1:06Speaker 4: I know we're better than what we showed in that field.
- 1:09Speaker 4: So it definitely gave us a sense of one to
- 1:10Speaker 4: want to go out and practice and do better. So
- 1:13Speaker 4: we've been doing that. We've been executing very well in practice.
- 1:16Speaker 4: We've been kind of just showing we're locked in and
- 1:18Speaker 4: focus on the game plan.
- 1:20Speaker 5: A Calvin, Ohio State had eight sacks in its last game.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Just what stands out to you when you watch a
- 1:25Speaker 5: film about their pass rush?
- 1:27Speaker 4: Yeah, just physical rushers. Not one of their guys take
- 1:31Speaker 4: a playoff. They give maximum effort every time. So just
- 1:34Speaker 4: guys who are gonna put the best foot forward for
- 1:36Speaker 4: their team and give maximum effort for you. So I'll
- 1:39Speaker 4: say that kind of kind of just sums up their rushers.
- 1:42Speaker 4: And one on one word.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Call in a very similar question just specifically about Jack
- 1:48Speaker 2: Sawyer and j. C. Tmoloaw what makes them so tough
- 1:53Speaker 2: to go against and what kind of challenge is that
- 1:54Speaker 2: for you?
- 1:56Speaker 4: Yeah, they're great rushers, Like I said, they like to
- 1:58Speaker 4: press the pocket very well.
- 2:00Speaker 6: They can.
- 2:00Speaker 4: They have hot motor so it's not like you're gonna
- 2:02Speaker 4: block them and then they stop and and not try
- 2:04Speaker 4: to chase the quarterback. They do all that, they have
- 2:06Speaker 4: good counter moves to give you, uh if the first
- 2:09Speaker 4: move don't work. So they're just hot motive rushers. And
- 2:12Speaker 4: just me me being locked in on on the techniques
- 2:15Speaker 4: that coach Flood has taught me to make sure I
- 2:17Speaker 4: do my best of block those two guys.
- 2:20Speaker 7: Hey, Kevin, how you doing. I just wanted to ask
- 2:23Speaker 7: about the heart of a champion, right That was a
- 2:25Speaker 7: conversation before the Georgia game. Y'all describe the Bulldogs as that,
- 2:29Speaker 7: and so I'm wondering after they airs on the state matchup,
- 2:32Speaker 7: do you feel like that was y'all's part of a
- 2:33Speaker 7: champion moment?
- 2:35Speaker 1: Oh?
- 2:35Speaker 4: Yeah, sir, you could say that because like I was saying,
- 2:38Speaker 4: like I said before, we didn't kind of come out
- 2:40Speaker 4: there and put our best beforard as a team. We
- 2:42Speaker 4: felt like we left a lot out there on the
- 2:43Speaker 4: table that we can that we uh that you want
- 2:45Speaker 4: to get back at the end of the day, you can't.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Uh.
- 2:47Speaker 4: The game is a game and it happens, but it
- 2:49Speaker 4: definitely shows the heart that we have as a team
- 2:51Speaker 4: to go out there and no matter the avarsity adversity
- 2:54Speaker 4: that we faced in those moments, we came out and
- 2:56Speaker 4: pulled pulled through at the end.
- 2:58Speaker 8: Tell them the last time you were underdogs was going
- 3:01Speaker 8: to Alabama last year. Do you get the same sense
- 3:07Speaker 8: of resolve amongst your teammates knowing that you're the team
- 3:14Speaker 8: that's being counted out in this game?
- 3:17Speaker 2: I mean you could say so, yeah, anytime.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I feel like anytime any football team that's counted out
- 3:21Speaker 4: and going into a game, it definitely makes puts a
- 3:24Speaker 4: chip on the shoulder that want to go out there
- 3:26Speaker 4: and prove people wrong. But at the end of the day,
- 3:28Speaker 4: we treat every week the same. We kind of coming
- 3:30Speaker 4: to everybody with the same mindset. We try to make
- 3:32Speaker 4: sure we're we have the same mentality of going out
- 3:35Speaker 4: there and one wanting to go dominate, no matter if
- 3:37Speaker 4: we're the favorite team or if we're not.
- 3:40Speaker 9: Hey, Calvin, you know Burt Auburns struggled a little bit
- 3:43Speaker 9: just kicking what's going on with him since the Beach
- 3:47Speaker 9: Bowl and how do you get his confidence back?
- 3:51Speaker 4: I mean, that's kind of that's not a kind of
- 3:54Speaker 4: a question for me. It's kind of kind of couch
- 3:55Speaker 4: for coach Banks. But Bert's Burt's been itself. He's I mean,
- 3:59Speaker 4: he's been he's been a selfie. I don't think any
- 4:02Speaker 4: athlete people go through slumps. I mean, I've had slumps
- 4:05Speaker 4: before where stuff happens you kind of kind of just
- 4:08Speaker 4: got to move one from it and just brush off.
- 4:09Speaker 4: But Bird, he's he's been doing fine. He's been doing
- 4:12Speaker 4: good in practice. And you know what I'm saying, his
- 4:14Speaker 4: confidence doesn't like his uh went away at all. So
- 4:18Speaker 4: we trusted him as a team and we believe in
- 4:20Speaker 4: his ability to go out there and make field goals.
- 4:23Speaker 6: Alvin, So as a team, you guys throughout the whole
- 4:26Speaker 6: entire season have always every game you try to get better,
- 4:29Speaker 6: fix the mistakes and so on. Against Clempson, you guys
- 4:33Speaker 6: had two penalty Boch Sharkisian talked about that was a
- 4:37Speaker 6: result of it come to Jesus meeting. But I'm just curious,
- 4:40Speaker 6: how do you guys go into practice, like, for example,
- 4:43Speaker 6: this week, you guys are self motivated, You don't you
- 4:46Speaker 6: probably need to come to Jesus meeting. But how are
- 4:49Speaker 6: you guys working on that aspect of the game to
- 4:53Speaker 6: lesson or refine not as many penalties.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it kind of starts up front with
- 5:00Speaker 4: O line if you want to be honest, pre snap
- 5:02Speaker 4: pre snap penalties and stuff like that. That's like that
- 5:04Speaker 4: stuff that puts you behind the states, and it kind
- 5:06Speaker 4: of makes it hard for you to go out there
- 5:07Speaker 4: and go score and put droughts together. So things like
- 5:10Speaker 4: that just has to stop. I mean, it's it's stuff
- 5:12Speaker 4: we learned were doing practice. Where we get in practice,
- 5:16Speaker 4: we don't. We don't have the same mistakes. So it's
- 5:18Speaker 4: just that that moment of uh staying calm, being being
- 5:22Speaker 4: calmon in the field of play and understanding what your
- 5:25Speaker 4: job is and not kind of getting too over too over,
- 5:28Speaker 4: too over excited, or too uh too over emotional, because
- 5:31Speaker 4: that's when you start having pre snap penalties.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Uh as such.
- 5:35Speaker 9: Yeah, I was just curious about the mindset of the team.
- 5:39Speaker 9: Did the way y'all win, both of your confidence or
- 5:43Speaker 9: or blowing the sixteen point lead hurt your confidence? How
- 5:47Speaker 9: y'all react to those.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't say it hurt our confidence
- 5:51Speaker 2: at all.
- 5:51Speaker 4: We understood kind of understanding what we did during that game,
- 5:55Speaker 4: and just at the end of the day, you're here
- 5:58Speaker 4: for a reason, Arizona starting was here for reasons. So
- 6:00Speaker 4: we kind we kind of just go in there and
- 6:03Speaker 4: think we're gonna play reds game, but obviously no game
- 6:05Speaker 4: is gonna be perfect, so we just we go in
- 6:07Speaker 4: we win.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Okay, now it's time to go back and fix the mistakes.
- 6:10Speaker 4: So at the end of the day, we just got
- 6:11Speaker 4: to look at that and learn from those mistakes and
- 6:13Speaker 4: then and bring it to the next game.
- 6:16Speaker 10: And Kelvin, what does.
- 6:17Speaker 8: It mean to this team to be playing this game
- 6:19Speaker 8: in the state of Texas just rolling up I thirty five.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it means a lot.
- 6:27Speaker 4: It means a lot to us, especially just because it's
- 6:29Speaker 4: kind of like you're playing the home game in a sense.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Con just wanted to defend your state, just defending the
- 6:35Speaker 4: state of Texas. So just just going in there and
- 6:38Speaker 4: knowing like, hey, you don't have to travel for a
- 6:40Speaker 4: kind of just kind of like in your backyard. So
- 6:42Speaker 4: it means a lot to us, and just we want
- 6:44Speaker 4: to go out here that's cute and just play hard
- 6:46Speaker 4: for our fans and play hard for our teammates, and the.
- 6:49Speaker 8: Last time you were in Jerry World it was for
- 6:53Speaker 8: the Big twelve Championship.
- 6:55Speaker 10: So any good vibes from that.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, you can say so.
- 7:01Speaker 4: It's always a good vibe when you go into a
- 7:03Speaker 4: stadium that you've won in before.
- 7:06Speaker 11: Yeah, Kevin, I just wonder for you personally, what are
- 7:08Speaker 11: the last you know, kind of six weeks I guess
- 7:10Speaker 11: been like from you know, dealing with the injury against
- 7:13Speaker 11: A and M, and then you got the award circuit,
- 7:15Speaker 11: then you're right back into the playoff and now you're
- 7:17Speaker 11: in the January and the semi finals. Just kind of
- 7:20Speaker 11: how this whole world win for you this last six
- 7:22Speaker 11: weeks spend. Yeah, it's been it's been pretty crazy.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Kind of some high some lows, but at the end
- 7:29Speaker 4: of the day, you just gotta kind of focus on
- 7:30Speaker 4: what you have going at the moment, and that was
- 7:32Speaker 4: kind of the team in that point.
- 7:35Speaker 2: You know, people go through stuff.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Now everybody run this time is one hundred percent healthy,
- 7:39Speaker 4: So you just got to have that in the back
- 7:40Speaker 4: of your mind going into the game and just understanding like, yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 4: you win these awards, but these the big goal is
- 7:47Speaker 4: definitely to win that championship.
- 7:49Speaker 2: For a team.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I mean, the awards are great, but at the end
- 7:52Speaker 4: of the day, I feel like when you win collectively
- 7:54Speaker 4: as a team and it means it means a whole
- 7:56Speaker 4: lot more.
- 7:58Speaker 12: Yeah, Kevin, going back to thatnversation about playing at and
- 8:01Speaker 12: T Stadium and then you know, just playing in Mercedes
- 8:04Speaker 12: Benz twice. Now, what are the benefits of playing these
- 8:06Speaker 12: big games in stadiums that y'all that y'all all are
- 8:10Speaker 12: familiar with.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Yeah, it's definitely a lot of benefits, kind of kind
- 8:14Speaker 4: of you just being used to the atmosphere, You've been
- 8:16Speaker 4: used to what it will sound like when the stadium
- 8:19Speaker 4: is packed, how to turn feels, just different things like
- 8:22Speaker 4: that that not many people may think impacts you or
- 8:25Speaker 4: may impact you going to the game, but it's definitely
- 8:27Speaker 4: something that you kind of have in the back of
- 8:29Speaker 4: your mind and just just just it's a good thing
- 8:32Speaker 4: to kind of have that opportunity to have been played
- 8:34Speaker 4: in the stadium before, not going in to a new environment.
- 8:38Speaker 13: When you look at Ohio States defense, obviously they're you know,
- 8:41Speaker 13: they're very talented, but their offense has jumped on teams
- 8:44Speaker 13: pretty quick. What do you guys have to do to
- 8:45Speaker 13: stay on script offensively to you know, kind of avoid
- 8:48Speaker 13: that hole that you know their offense can put you
- 8:50Speaker 13: guys' defense in.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Yeah, just to win, win on first and second downs.
- 8:54Speaker 4: I feel like that's the biggest thing for us right
- 8:56Speaker 4: now is winning on first and second downs. Like not
- 8:59Speaker 4: getting sticks early on in the downs. That kind of
- 9:02Speaker 4: helps us out by staying on the field to help
- 9:04Speaker 4: the defense out as well by getting their rests and
- 9:06Speaker 4: things like that. So just make sure we stay in
- 9:08Speaker 4: front of the sticks on on schedule and just having
- 9:11Speaker 4: that mentality.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I want to run the ball as well.
- 9:14Speaker 4: So I feel like if we get all that stuff
- 9:16Speaker 4: worked out, I feel like we'll do pretty good.
- 9:18Speaker 7: Well.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Good to hear that Calvin's feeling good enough and ready
- 9:21Speaker 1: to roll again and to anchor up that left side
- 9:24Speaker 1: of the offensive line. All right. Gunner Helm all season
- 9:27Speaker 1: long has been a clutch receiver for Texas. Made some
- 9:30Speaker 1: big catches and games, and certainly none bigger than the
- 9:33Speaker 1: one he made to start the second overtime. On the
- 9:35Speaker 1: first play of the second overtime, on the touchdown pass
- 9:38Speaker 1: from Quinn, you were so, let's hear from the long
- 9:40Speaker 1: warrant senior tight end Gunner.
- 9:42Speaker 14: Hilm definite, Gunnar, I just asked us to Quinn earlier.
- 9:45Speaker 14: Would love your perspective, you know, as an offensive player,
- 9:48Speaker 14: how crucial is it that Quinn is that calming presence
- 9:51Speaker 14: for you guys? Mean, no disrespected guys like Kelvin or
- 9:54Speaker 14: Jake or veterans like yourself, who's there, all talented players,
- 9:57Speaker 14: but how crucial is it to have that quarterback be
- 9:59Speaker 14: the calming presence for you guys throughout the games?
- 10:02Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean just obviously as our you know, front
- 10:05Speaker 15: runner leader on the offensive side of the ball, he's
- 10:08Speaker 15: the one that leads us, gets the play going, and
- 10:10Speaker 15: just see him calm definitely calls our nerves a little bit,
- 10:14Speaker 15: you know, just as we're driving, if things aren't going well,
- 10:16Speaker 15: if things are good, he.
- 10:16Speaker 10: Keeps us, keeps us in a good headspace.
- 10:19Speaker 15: If things might not be going too good, keep going
- 10:21Speaker 15: through and now keeps us in a good headspace. You know,
- 10:23Speaker 15: it just keeps encouraging us. So obviously, yeah, very effective.
- 10:26Speaker 15: Behalf him on our side.
- 10:31Speaker 16: Hey, Gunnard, I was wondering if you could take us
- 10:33Speaker 16: through that score on the first play of second overtime.
- 10:36Speaker 16: What's that route that you're running? Have you guys run
- 10:38Speaker 16: that play before, and how do you have to really
- 10:40Speaker 16: sell that at the line of scrimmage that you're blocking.
- 10:42Speaker 10: Yeah, we run a lot of slider and I guess
- 10:45Speaker 10: gap area protection.
- 10:46Speaker 15: So we ran it last year against Iowa State and
- 10:49Speaker 15: I scored on the same play, but essentially a fake
- 10:53Speaker 15: that I'm sliding down in protection and then leak out
- 10:55Speaker 15: the back door. It's been pretty effective, and you know,
- 10:57Speaker 15: the National Football League this year and a lot of
- 10:59Speaker 15: other colleges. I think State ran a version of it
- 11:01Speaker 15: against Penn State, so you.
- 11:03Speaker 10: Know, we knew it was gonna be a good call.
- 11:05Speaker 10: It's been in the entire season.
- 11:07Speaker 15: I think we try to run it against Michigan and
- 11:09Speaker 15: got shot down. But then you know, as as soon
- 11:12Speaker 15: as we called that one, I was pretty confident that
- 11:14Speaker 15: I was gonna be able to make a play.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Afternoon, Gunner, you talked a lot about your journey at Texas,
- 11:19Speaker 5: why you committed to ut in the committee, to the school.
- 11:23Speaker 5: In this playoff where you get to play these massive games,
- 11:26Speaker 5: you take moments to appreciate it while you're in it,
- 11:29Speaker 5: and what are those moments like for you?
- 11:31Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean coming to a school like Texas, you know,
- 11:34Speaker 15: coach Sark alluded to it today, We're built for games
- 11:36Speaker 15: like this.
- 11:36Speaker 10: Were playing a lot of games like this in front
- 11:39Speaker 10: of a lot of people in big stadiums, on big stages.
- 11:41Speaker 15: So you know, I think that I'm pretty used to
- 11:43Speaker 15: it that at this point, but early on in my career,
- 11:45Speaker 15: you know, it was definitely a really eye opening you know,
- 11:48Speaker 15: not playing at a huge Texas high school football program.
- 11:54Speaker 15: I mean a pretty big program coming out of the
- 11:56Speaker 15: state of Colorado, still the biggest one in Colorado, best
- 11:58Speaker 15: one in Colorado.
- 11:59Speaker 10: But yeah, I would just say that, you.
- 12:01Speaker 15: Know, take a moment, Try to take a moment just
- 12:04Speaker 15: just to reflect back in the next years, just where
- 12:07Speaker 15: I was as a player.
- 12:08Speaker 10: Big gunner.
- 12:10Speaker 8: How's this team handling being the underdog playing in the
- 12:14Speaker 8: state of Texas And what's what's been the messaging from
- 12:19Speaker 8: from Sark this week?
- 12:21Speaker 15: Yeah, just being where our feet are, you know, going
- 12:25Speaker 15: back in in our details. You know, obviously we're we're
- 12:28Speaker 15: trusting that our fans are gonna come out and make
- 12:30Speaker 15: an appearance, especially being up in Dallas, you know, just
- 12:32Speaker 15: up the road, so we feel like we have the
- 12:34Speaker 15: advantage of that aspect.
- 12:35Speaker 10: But you know, I think we're really dangerous as underdogs.
- 12:37Speaker 10: We've been underdogs for a.
- 12:39Speaker 15: Lot of big games my early years here, such as
- 12:43Speaker 15: you know, Alabama at home and then obviously Alabama on
- 12:46Speaker 15: the road and a really tough environment in Tuscal And says, So,
- 12:49Speaker 15: you know, I think underdogs the aspect of that makes
- 12:52Speaker 15: you really dangerous as a team.
- 12:54Speaker 10: But you know it's just another game for us. We're
- 12:56Speaker 10: paring the same way as we would.
- 12:58Speaker 9: Yeah, you know we've all talked about quinn Is composure
- 13:01Speaker 9: and how calm he is. You've known it for a
- 13:04Speaker 9: good while. What makes him nervous? Is it like public speaking,
- 13:09Speaker 9: going to the dentist? Do you ever see him getting nervous?
- 13:14Speaker 15: I guess the only way I can answer that is, uh,
- 13:17Speaker 15: sure as heck is in football, because every time I
- 13:19Speaker 15: see him, every time, you know, I would be pretty
- 13:22Speaker 15: shell shocked as a quarterback thinking back in it. He's
- 13:25Speaker 15: been the most level headed that there is on the field.
- 13:27Speaker 15: So you know, he carries himself really well, carries himself
- 13:31Speaker 15: really well off the field. I don't really have an
- 13:33Speaker 15: answer for you on that one. I have no idea
- 13:34Speaker 15: what makes him nervous?
- 13:36Speaker 17: Hey, Gunner, as your time at Texas starts to come
- 13:39Speaker 17: to an end here, Is there something to be said
- 13:42Speaker 17: for the fact that you are leaving this program in
- 13:44Speaker 17: a much better place than than when you showed up.
- 13:49Speaker 15: Yes, yeah, I mean when I showed up, I think
- 13:54Speaker 15: we had a two seven team GPA. You know, obviously
- 13:59Speaker 15: we went five and seven, the no bowl game, horrible culture,
- 14:03Speaker 15: nobody here wanted to be here, and then you know,
- 14:06Speaker 15: just kind of built on that as I've gone on
- 14:08Speaker 15: through the years. Next year, I think we had a
- 14:10Speaker 15: two nine, you know, eight and five, lose the bowl game,
- 14:16Speaker 15: you know, however, many draft picks, and then the next year,
- 14:19Speaker 15: you know, eleven and two or whatever it was, get
- 14:23Speaker 15: to the biggest stage, however, many draft picks, three maybe
- 14:27Speaker 15: three zero g P a team GPA. And now this year,
- 14:31Speaker 15: you know, obviously, being where we are, I think we
- 14:34Speaker 15: have a three to two team GPA, culture stronger than
- 14:37Speaker 15: it's ever been, and you know, coming down the coming
- 14:40Speaker 15: down the way, who knows how many draft picks. So
- 14:43Speaker 15: obviously coach Sark and the rest of the coaching staff
- 14:46Speaker 15: has done a spectacular job setting the standard for this team,
- 14:49Speaker 15: and just this team buying into that standard and setting
- 14:52Speaker 15: the groundwork and building upon itself each year be.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Our good afternoon.
- 14:56Speaker 6: So I'm just curious. You know, you're known as mister reliance, right,
- 15:01Speaker 6: they always find you maybe when the run's not happening
- 15:05Speaker 6: or the passes aren't dropping, let's get it the gunner,
- 15:07Speaker 6: you score a touchdown or make yardage. So I'm curious,
- 15:10Speaker 6: as the game is going on, are you communicating with
- 15:14Speaker 6: either Quinn or Sark that says, hey, I think I'm
- 15:17Speaker 6: open here. You might want to, you know, look at
- 15:20Speaker 6: this coverage that I'm getting because I think I can
- 15:23Speaker 6: make a difference. Or is it something that's pre scripted
- 15:26Speaker 6: and they're going to go to you when they need.
- 15:30Speaker 10: A little bit of both.
- 15:31Speaker 15: You know, it's not so much as they're gonna go
- 15:33Speaker 15: to me when they need me. But you know, I
- 15:36Speaker 15: think you put the ball in the in your best
- 15:38Speaker 15: opportunity to win the best player's hands when you need
- 15:40Speaker 15: it the most. And we have a lot of really
- 15:43Speaker 15: good players. There's not you know, one or two that
- 15:45Speaker 15: are just the best players. So I think that's the
- 15:47Speaker 15: that's the diversity of our team, of our offense.
- 15:49Speaker 10: We got a lot of explosiveness. But yeah, no, I
- 15:53Speaker 10: mean it's a little bit prescripted but you know it's
- 15:55Speaker 10: just flow of the game.
- 15:56Speaker 15: Part of our job as a player, just to you know,
- 15:59Speaker 15: keep the connection from you know, us coach Stark to
- 16:01Speaker 15: Quinn going is coming off the field and telling you know,
- 16:04Speaker 15: maybe Coach Banks or Coach Cutter or Coach Sark, just
- 16:08Speaker 15: the looks that we're seeing and you know it's their
- 16:11Speaker 15: job to scheme up the best place possible and they
- 16:13Speaker 15: do a great job of it.
- 16:15Speaker 13: Gunner. When when you look at Ohio States defense, obviously
- 16:17Speaker 13: Caleb Downs is a big.
- 16:18Speaker 10: Part of that. How difficult is he to prepare for?
- 16:21Speaker 13: And you know what changes for you guys when you
- 16:23Speaker 13: have a guy that can play you know, deep safety,
- 16:25Speaker 13: he can play down towards the line of scrimmage, he
- 16:27Speaker 13: can play almost a middle linebacker.
- 16:29Speaker 10: What kind of challenge is he for you guys this week?
- 16:31Speaker 15: Yeah, a huge challenge. Heck of a player can fit
- 16:34Speaker 15: the run, very physical and fitting the run. You know,
- 16:36Speaker 15: obviously one of the best and pass protection in the
- 16:38Speaker 15: country or pass coverage in the country.
- 16:40Speaker 10: So yeah, we got our hands.
- 16:42Speaker 15: Fall with not only just him, but you know the linebackers,
- 16:45Speaker 15: they they feel real hard. You know, they're very physical
- 16:48Speaker 15: their front so obviously obviously their fronts and NFL front
- 16:52Speaker 15: and their secondary is obviously an NFL secondary is just
- 16:54Speaker 15: an NFL defense as a whole NFL scheme.
- 16:56Speaker 10: So we got our hands full.
- 16:58Speaker 15: It's gonna be a really tough talent, tough challenge, and
- 17:00Speaker 15: you know, it's probably the best we've seen.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Appreciate you Gun on a moment ago when you were
- 17:04Speaker 3: talking about this shift in culture and leaving the program
- 17:07Speaker 3: in a better place. You knew the GPA, the team
- 17:09Speaker 3: GPA each year. What's that correlation in your mind between
- 17:14Speaker 3: team GPA and on field success and has that always
- 17:17Speaker 3: been important to you or did somebody push that stat
- 17:21Speaker 3: to the front of your mind.
- 17:22Speaker 10: Yeah, I know, Coach Starks has it all the time.
- 17:24Speaker 15: It's you know, your three gears of three gears of life,
- 17:28Speaker 15: so your personal life, your school life, and your football life.
- 17:30Speaker 15: And you know, if everything's going great, then all the
- 17:32Speaker 15: gears are twisting themselves. But you know, if you get
- 17:35Speaker 15: something jammed up, maybe you fail a test, maybe you
- 17:37Speaker 15: know one of your grades job, then if that's on
- 17:39Speaker 15: the front of your mind, then you start to do
- 17:41Speaker 15: poorly on the football field, then maybe your personal life
- 17:43Speaker 15: isn't going quite as well or you know the other
- 17:46Speaker 15: way around. Maybe something gets jammed up in your personal life,
- 17:48Speaker 15: you're hanging out with the wrong group of people, you
- 17:50Speaker 15: get in trouble.
- 17:50Speaker 10: Then the on field stuff.
- 17:52Speaker 15: Maybe you get benched, then you're thinking about that, then
- 17:54Speaker 15: you fail test, or you know another way around it.
- 17:57Speaker 15: You know you're on the field, your your busting assignments.
- 17:59Speaker 15: Maybe you benched, then you start to not really care.
- 18:02Speaker 15: Then you don't go to school, then you start failing,
- 18:03Speaker 15: then you become ineligible. So snowball effects from all three aspects.
- 18:07Speaker 15: But that's something that's pressed upon us in the offseason.
- 18:09Speaker 15: And yeah, it's part of our culture to have success
- 18:12Speaker 15: off the field as well, especially in the classroom, especially
- 18:14Speaker 15: at a school like Texas.
- 18:15Speaker 10: So I think coach Sark has done a tremendous job
- 18:18Speaker 10: with that.
- 18:18Speaker 1: We'll hear from more log Worns coming up as we
- 18:20Speaker 1: continue in this four o'clock hour on AM thirteen hundred.
- 18:23Speaker 7: The zero
