Latest / Best of the NFL Podcast Network / The Season with Peter Schrager: Joint Mock Draft with ESPN's Field Yates
Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, everybody, Welcome to
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger. We are now less than
- 0:26Speaker 1: ten days away from the NFL Draft and it is
- 0:30Speaker 1: time to just rip through mock draft scenarios. This is
- 0:33Speaker 1: why you come to this podcast during this time of year,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and I like to think I've got connections with some
- 0:39Speaker 1: of the best guys in media who do this for
- 0:41Speaker 1: a living. One of them is Field Yates. Field is
- 0:45Speaker 1: younger than me. Field has experience with both the Patriots
- 0:49Speaker 1: and the Kansas City Chiefs working in their front offices,
- 0:53Speaker 1: and has been a rocket ship of a star over
- 0:56Speaker 1: at ESPN. He's also a really nice guy and he
- 0:58Speaker 1: loves the draft like I do. We're going to bring
- 1:01Speaker 1: Field on in just a second. But here's the exercise
- 1:03Speaker 1: I'm going to do with him. We're going to do
- 1:05Speaker 1: a mock draft. But the two of us have not spoken,
- 1:08Speaker 1: we have not looked at each other's mock drafts, and
- 1:09Speaker 1: we are going to alternate one pick to another, one
- 1:12Speaker 1: pick to another, and we're just gonna let it fly
- 1:14Speaker 1: and see where the chips fall. My mock draft and
- 1:18Speaker 1: if you want to listen to it, I put it
- 1:20Speaker 1: up on the podcast in the most recent pod. It
- 1:23Speaker 1: just went live on NFL dot com. Again, a lot
- 1:26Speaker 1: of feedback and a lot of it being like what
- 1:29Speaker 1: the hell, which is exactly what we want to do.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I think this is going to be a really interesting
- 1:34Speaker 1: NFL draft with a lot of teams of passionate fan
- 1:37Speaker 1: bases up top. When you're talking about Chicago, you're talking
- 1:40Speaker 1: about Washington, you're talking about New England, you're talking about
- 1:42Speaker 1: the Giants, you're talking about the Jets. All in the
- 1:45Speaker 1: top ten, you're talking about fan bases that are vocal
- 1:49Speaker 1: but also are very passionate about their teams. And I
- 1:51Speaker 1: can't wait to see how it all shakes out. But
- 1:53Speaker 1: with no further ado, let's get my guy field Yates
- 1:56Speaker 1: on here and let's do something mocking, all right. Our
- 2:01Speaker 1: guest is a friend of mine and a guy I
- 2:03Speaker 1: have long respected, who I am so happy to see
- 2:06Speaker 1: being used in so many great ways over at ESPN
- 2:09Speaker 1: and this year especially very prominent in their draft coverage.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You're listening to his podcast and you're seeing his stuff
- 2:17Speaker 1: with Mel Kuiper. I have to think that's the ultimate
- 2:18Speaker 1: honor for a guy the same generation as me who
- 2:22Speaker 1: grew up just wanting to be mel Kuiper and do
- 2:25Speaker 1: this for a living. Field Yates from ESPN Field, what's
- 2:28Speaker 1: up man.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Not too much. It's great to be on with you.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And I was thinking about this before the recording here
- 2:34Speaker 2: of I really believe, and I'm sure there are a
- 2:37Speaker 2: lot of other people in the media that fall into
- 2:39Speaker 2: this category, but I know, like unequivocally that you are
- 2:42Speaker 2: one of these people. And I consider myself one of
- 2:44Speaker 2: these people as well. That if I were pushing papers
- 2:46Speaker 2: in an office, or if I were a doctor, if
- 2:48Speaker 2: I were a teacher, I have zero doubt in my
- 2:51Speaker 2: mind that right now, while at my other job, I
- 2:54Speaker 2: would be thinking about mock drafts. That's the beauty of
- 2:56Speaker 2: the draft. It's something that I've loved long before I
- 2:59Speaker 2: knew I was going to be in this line of work.
- 3:01Speaker 2: And I know you feel the same way, which is
- 3:03Speaker 2: why I would consider these next let's call it two
- 3:06Speaker 2: weeks some of the most special weeks of the entire
- 3:09Speaker 2: year on the football calendar.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I mean, I remember being in the college fraternity house
- 3:13Speaker 1: Draft day telling everyone on a Saturday morning in April,
- 3:16Speaker 1: one of those last weekends of the spring when everyone's
- 3:20Speaker 1: out there throwing the frisbee and and and having a beer.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And I was like locked in a dungeon watching the
- 3:25Speaker 1: NFL Draft Day three to see where you know, Leland
- 3:29Speaker 1: McElroy was gonna go, you know, from technic, that's the
- 3:32Speaker 1: kind of stuff. And I had on Jedfish, who I'm
- 3:36Speaker 1: sure you've come across recently, had Jedfish on the podcast
- 3:42Speaker 1: and he was college fraternity brothers and maybe roommates with
- 3:46Speaker 1: Howie Roseman roommates. He tells the story of how on
- 3:50Speaker 1: draft day, how we put on a suit in college,
- 3:55Speaker 1: put on a suit a tie and had folders spread
- 3:58Speaker 1: across like a desk in their fraternity house room. And
- 4:02Speaker 1: was like the same way, I think it's a bug.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I don't think there's any shame in it. And Peter
- 4:07Speaker 1: King wrote his farewell column and he said, the one
- 4:09Speaker 1: thing he won't miss is doing that April mock draft.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's agonizing, it's painful. You find yourself on the phone
- 4:17Speaker 1: with the same people ten times, and then you put
- 4:18Speaker 1: it out there into the earth. It makes a little
- 4:20Speaker 1: ripple and then for the hours and hours you labor
- 4:23Speaker 1: over that mock draft. The return on investment is just
- 4:26Speaker 1: not there. No one is going back and being like, well,
- 4:29Speaker 1: this guy got one more pick than that guy, and
- 4:31Speaker 1: yet we put all of our hard work and effort
- 4:33Speaker 1: into it and field. I'm looking online. You haven't done
- 4:36Speaker 1: one since April third, but I have to mention you're
- 4:40Speaker 1: in the same boat I am. Where it's like I
- 4:42Speaker 1: just wasted an entire weekend on the phone with gms
- 4:44Speaker 1: and head coaches. But it's worth it. You put it out,
- 4:46Speaker 1: you feel confident you have.
- 4:48Speaker 2: To, And I would say this, let me rank what
- 4:49Speaker 2: I believe like the priorities of mock drafts. Number one,
- 4:52Speaker 2: and this is like way above the rest entertainment. Okay,
- 4:56Speaker 2: there for entertainment purposes, mostly, not only, but mostly I
- 5:00Speaker 2: find them so fun. The day after this draft is over,
- 5:04Speaker 2: I will be reading I hope I might have to
- 5:06Speaker 2: make my own twenty twenty. Yeah, but I actually think
- 5:09Speaker 2: that might be a Matt Miller or Jordan Reid assignment. Eskay.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I will be devouring it. I know you and I
- 5:15Speaker 2: share an affinity for a lot of sports besides football.
- 5:18Speaker 2: I will read every MBA mock draft and now and
- 5:21Speaker 2: when the mock when the draft actually takes place, I
- 5:24Speaker 2: will read. I will do my own NBA draft body
- 5:27Speaker 2: lottery simulation so that I can make up my own
- 5:29Speaker 2: order and then read mock drafts based off of what
- 5:32Speaker 2: the order that I determined totally randomly and arbitrarily with
- 5:36Speaker 2: a tool. So I think entertainment is certainly the driving
- 5:39Speaker 2: force behind these. It's really hard, though, when you take
- 5:42Speaker 2: a lot of pride and put a lot of effort
- 5:44Speaker 2: into this process, like I know you do. I actually
- 5:46Speaker 2: have not, by design read your mock We talked to
- 5:51Speaker 2: ye not reading it, but it being accurate. Is it's
- 5:55Speaker 2: a really typical thing to do. There is such like
- 5:57Speaker 2: the butterfly effect of just one thing that goes just
- 6:00Speaker 2: a little bit unconventionally early at the top of the
- 6:02Speaker 2: board can totally change everything. So I would say number
- 6:06Speaker 2: two behind entertainment purposes is like my goal is, I'm
- 6:10Speaker 2: less focused on direct hits. Those are great, they would
- 6:13Speaker 2: be awesome. I'd love to go thirty two for thirty two,
- 6:15Speaker 2: But my real hope is that of the final thirty
- 6:18Speaker 2: two players that are in my first round mock draft,
- 6:21Speaker 2: a significant number of them actually go in the first round.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I think that's solid.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that's sort of the goal. That would be a
- 6:27Speaker 2: nice you know it, Mail has set a couple different times.
- 6:29Speaker 2: If you can be in the twenties with your thirty
- 6:32Speaker 2: two picks, then you should feel pretty good about that. Yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And I also come at it a different way, and
- 6:36Speaker 1: there's a bit of arrogance to it, which I was
- 6:38Speaker 1: humboled last year. Like I come at it and say,
- 6:41Speaker 1: I don't no one gives a shit what I would
- 6:45Speaker 1: do if I were the Titans. So I try to
- 6:48Speaker 1: come at it and say, here's what I'm hearing. Everyone
- 6:52Speaker 1: who's listening or consuming my content, at least you'd think
- 6:55Speaker 1: that there is a agreement that you know, if you're
- 6:58Speaker 1: taking my content and you know where my angle is.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I talk to everybody as and I hope that they're
- 7:02Speaker 1: not be asking me completely And here's what I'm hearing,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and this is where I could see things going. So
- 7:08Speaker 1: if I do a crazy trade at the top, this
- 7:11Speaker 1: isn't if I was Quasia dofo mensa. Here's what I
- 7:14Speaker 1: would do with the it's I think the Vikings might
- 7:16Speaker 1: be willing to give X, Y and Z up to
- 7:18Speaker 1: get up to this spot, and I think that team
- 7:20Speaker 1: would be receptive of that. That arrogance went a long
- 7:24Speaker 1: way last year before the mock draft and I was talking,
- 7:27Speaker 1: I'm like, look, you can listen to all the other
- 7:28Speaker 1: mock drafts. They don't matter. Mine's the one that matters.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And then I think I got two of thirty two
- 7:35Speaker 1: direct hits. I might have been three of thirty two,
- 7:37Speaker 1: like I got Bryce Young to the Panthers, and then
- 7:40Speaker 1: I just got I got the rest wrong. So this year,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna come at it a little differently. I'm gonna
- 7:45Speaker 1: come with a little bit more humility and say here's
- 7:47Speaker 1: how I think it might go, and we'll see from there.
- 7:50Speaker 1: What's your approach, what's your approach to it?
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I say my approach is like that. I you know,
- 7:55Speaker 2: I'm hoping that I roll snake guys on every pick,
- 7:57Speaker 2: but you know, I will say this, and this job
- 7:59Speaker 2: can be humbling in so many ways, and taking on
- 8:02Speaker 2: a full time draft analyst role this year has been
- 8:04Speaker 2: so eye opening. It and it kind of harkens back
- 8:06Speaker 2: my you know, brief but time, my brief time, but
- 8:10Speaker 2: still my time within the NFL working out in scouting departments.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And it's so different because the role is you're grading
- 8:16Speaker 2: thirty two teams worth of players, right, Whereas when you're
- 8:20Speaker 2: working for the same so you're working for the Jaguars
- 8:22Speaker 2: or the Seahawks, you're grading those players for how your
- 8:25Speaker 2: team goes about its business and how you see players
- 8:27Speaker 2: in your system and stuff like that. But I would
- 8:30Speaker 2: say that more than anything, and maybe it sounds like
- 8:32Speaker 2: a cop out, and I know there are a lot
- 8:34Speaker 2: of people within the league listening to this podcast, so
- 8:36Speaker 2: they can let me know if this is a cop out.
- 8:37Speaker 2: But more than anything, I appreciate the people that really
- 8:40Speaker 2: put a lot of time and effort into their mock drafts,
- 8:42Speaker 2: because if we accept that the goal is to not
- 8:46Speaker 2: go thirty two for thirty two, I love the fact,
- 8:48Speaker 2: like my when I eventually read your mock draft after
- 8:51Speaker 2: we're done, I'm going to read it and I'm going
- 8:52Speaker 2: to say to myself, well, if Peter is hearing this,
- 8:55Speaker 2: or if Peter is suggesting that, or if Peter is,
- 8:57Speaker 2: you know, forecasting this, then if I mean something, and
- 9:00Speaker 2: if it's way different than something I have previously heard
- 9:03Speaker 2: or thought, then I need to account for that. Or
- 9:06Speaker 2: or if it's something that aligns with stuff that I've
- 9:08Speaker 2: heard or thoughts or mocked already, then it makes me
- 9:11Speaker 2: feel that much more ebolded in my stance on those
- 9:14Speaker 2: players so efforts and I can't this sounds like it.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I feel like I'm having a pep talk with like
- 9:19Speaker 2: you know, a bunch of girls, like you got any
- 9:20Speaker 2: of your best to your kids. But yeah, I really
- 9:23Speaker 2: do think you can tell the people that put a
- 9:24Speaker 2: lot of time and effort into this process, even if
- 9:27Speaker 2: the reality is that the day after round one is over,
- 9:31Speaker 2: the mox that we spent you know, the vast majority
- 9:34Speaker 2: of the past three or four months doing become worth
- 9:37Speaker 2: owaight and paper. Right now, the picks are set, let's
- 9:39Speaker 2: worry about what those players mean with their respective teams, all.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Right, real quick before we get to our exercise that
- 9:44Speaker 1: you and I are going to do. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 9:47Speaker 1: be on NFL networks coverage of the draft all three days.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I'm doing good Morning Football. Then I'm gonna also be
- 9:52Speaker 1: on the draft coverage at night. I got a big
- 9:55Speaker 1: press release from ESPN with a bunch of names, and
- 9:57Speaker 1: it's ESPN and it's ABC, but I saw your face
- 10:01Speaker 1: prominently on it. Which network will you be on and
- 10:04Speaker 1: who will you be on with?
- 10:05Speaker 2: All Right? So there's Friday obviously Rounds one Thursday or
- 10:08Speaker 2: then Rounds two and three on Friday, I'll be on
- 10:10Speaker 2: the ABC broadcast. You know, it is truly and I'm
- 10:13Speaker 2: not trying to be self down. I get it, but
- 10:15Speaker 2: like the Showstoppers, the show stoppers there are, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 2: Rhys Davis, the ACE host with Kirk Kirbstreet, you know,
- 10:22Speaker 2: the face of college football, Desmond Howard, college football legend.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And then Nick Saban, you know, just making his ESPN
- 10:28Speaker 2: slash ABC debut in this full time capacity. So then
- 10:32Speaker 2: Laura Rutledge, one of my favorite people at ESPN, incredibly talented,
- 10:35Speaker 2: doing all the player interviews, and then Pete Thamill, who
- 10:38Speaker 2: is the most plugged in man in all of college football.
- 10:40Speaker 2: And I will be kind of holding down a separate set,
- 10:44Speaker 2: and then will I don't know exactly with what frequency
- 10:47Speaker 2: they'll be coming our way, but I told the producers,
- 10:50Speaker 2: I keep telling them, you know, I'll be ready. So
- 10:52Speaker 2: if you come to me once, I'll be ready for
- 10:54Speaker 2: that one time. If you come to me after every pick,
- 10:56Speaker 2: I hope to be ready for those thirty two picks
- 10:57Speaker 2: on night one as well. And then Day three have
- 11:00Speaker 2: a lot of fun Reese hosting again. That's on ESPN
- 11:03Speaker 2: twelve to let's call it seven usually when it wraps
- 11:05Speaker 2: up with Lewis Riddick, Matt Miller, myself, and then of
- 11:09Speaker 2: course Mel Kiper Junior, who I am endlessly thankful for
- 11:13Speaker 2: to call it colleague, because Mel's forty six years speak
- 11:16Speaker 2: for themselves, and his passion and energy for this stuff
- 11:19Speaker 2: never ceases to amaze me. I have tried many times
- 11:23Speaker 2: over the past nine months to throw a sleeper a
- 11:25Speaker 2: guy that Mel There's no way he's heard of him,
- 11:28Speaker 2: because he got it. He's got the kids uncle's name,
- 11:31Speaker 2: he's got the kids high school memorized. He knows what
- 11:33Speaker 2: this kids you have book?
- 11:35Speaker 1: Like, were you too young for that? Did you order
- 11:36Speaker 1: the book as a kid?
- 11:37Speaker 2: Well? I have the Melkiper, But now now I'm trying
- 11:41Speaker 2: to continue to stockpile them, like I want to go
- 11:44Speaker 2: back and see if I can get the cool.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Thing to collect. That's a really great thing to collect.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Darren Ravel might have a field day with that. I
- 11:50Speaker 1: feel like if we here's Mel Kuiper volumes one through
- 11:54Speaker 1: forty six of his draft Bible, but the story goes
- 11:58Speaker 1: he was living in I want to say like dun Doc, Maryland,
- 12:01Speaker 1: some small town in Maryland and was writing up a
- 12:04Speaker 1: draft guide and would send it out to all the
- 12:06Speaker 1: teas and it made its way around and then he
- 12:08Speaker 1: got put on TV and the rest is history.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Incredible. Yeah, the draft industry would be something, for sure
- 12:14Speaker 2: if not for Mel's presence, but it wouldn't be what
- 12:16Speaker 2: it is. I can guarantee you that, and it wouldn't
- 12:17Speaker 2: have happened as fast as it did. So I will
- 12:21Speaker 2: defend Melchiper Jr. Until I'm read in the phase because
- 12:25Speaker 2: what he has done for this industry and broadening the
- 12:27Speaker 2: reach of the NFL draft is legitimately incomparable. I think
- 12:30Speaker 2: there should be a thirty for thirty on mail one
- 12:32Speaker 2: day because he is so deserving of that kind of coverage,
- 12:35Speaker 2: which he will absolutely, one hundred percent shy away from
- 12:38Speaker 2: because the guy wants absolutely zero in the way of praise.
- 12:42Speaker 2: He just wants to do the job.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the best, He's the best. He's the godfather
- 12:47Speaker 1: of it all, and I think we all pay our
- 12:48Speaker 1: respects always and it's so cool that you get to
- 12:50Speaker 1: do it alongside him.
- 12:51Speaker 2: That's got to be a dream come true.
- 12:53Speaker 1: All Right, here's the exercise that we're going to do
- 12:55Speaker 1: field because all right, I honestly, I was like, who
- 12:58Speaker 1: can I ask? I was like, there's two people I
- 13:00Speaker 1: want to do this with. It's it's you and it's
- 13:02Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah. I'm like, those are the two guys that
- 13:04Speaker 1: I've been reading their mock drafts. And I'm like, all right,
- 13:06Speaker 1: these of the two that I feel are very plugged
- 13:08Speaker 1: in but also would have fun with this exercise. So
- 13:12Speaker 1: here's what we're gonna do on this.
- 13:13Speaker 2: DJ said no, By the way, then right, I'm busy.
- 13:16Speaker 1: So funny, I didn't even ask DJ. It's like we're
- 13:18Speaker 1: gonna We're gonna probably ask DJ either end of the
- 13:20Speaker 1: week to do it or next week. But like he's
- 13:22Speaker 1: gone a little Hollywood for me, like to the point
- 13:24Speaker 1: where I asked him to do the pod and recently
- 13:29Speaker 1: and his response was like, I'm just so booked up
- 13:31Speaker 1: with like media engagements. I'm like, okay, dude, enjoy enjoy
- 13:35Speaker 1: a local Topeka, Kansas radio talking about the Jayhawks cornerback
- 13:39Speaker 1: that you're gonna project in the seventh round. Anyway, I
- 13:42Speaker 1: know what's.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Gonna happen is you know Lebron has that new podcast
- 13:45Speaker 2: with JJ Reddick, which is a basketball junkies podcast, but
- 13:47Speaker 2: they're gonna find time for DJ. That's the kind of.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Level that actually be great.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah. I love DJ obviously as well. He's the best
- 13:54Speaker 2: human and has been so I mean, the support he
- 13:57Speaker 2: has sent to me during this process has been great.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Isn't it cool that, like, the two guys that are
- 14:02Speaker 1: like at the top of the heap right now are
- 14:03Speaker 1: just amazing humans And I hate to like do a
- 14:06Speaker 1: commercial for both of them, but like I've melt, Kaiper
- 14:09Speaker 1: has no reason to be nice to me. He's always
- 14:10Speaker 1: been so gracious. And Daniel Jeremiah. If you find one
- 14:13Speaker 1: person in the media or fan or whoever who has
- 14:16Speaker 1: a negative thing about Daniel Jeremiah to say, I would
- 14:18Speaker 1: love to meet that.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Person, I'm right. Yeah, those guys are as classy as
- 14:24Speaker 2: it gets, and they remind us of two things. One
- 14:27Speaker 2: humility should win and then two, there's a lot of
- 14:29Speaker 2: real estate out there. Just because DJ's got a mock
- 14:32Speaker 2: draft can't meet doesn't mean that you can't have your own. So, uh,
- 14:35Speaker 2: they've been alter supportive and I'm certainly grateful for that.
- 14:38Speaker 1: You're one of the nicest guys. Do you want to
- 14:39Speaker 1: do a list of our top five hated people in
- 14:41Speaker 1: NFL media or not?
- 14:42Speaker 2: Do you want to Should we say that at the end?
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe we do. Maybe that's the teaser trying to.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Who's like, who's the top heat there? I mean it
- 14:50Speaker 2: would be nice, like it would be nice to be
- 14:52Speaker 2: like a heel in sports media, the guy that just
- 14:55Speaker 2: just people just everyone hates.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know they say, you know, like, do
- 15:00Speaker 2: you want to be interesting? Right? Exactly like you said interesting.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Entertainment that this is all about. Say all right, here's
- 15:07Speaker 1: what we're gonna do. Okay, we're gonna do a mock
- 15:09Speaker 1: draft of two of us. I'm gonna go and then
- 15:12Speaker 1: you're gonna go. We're gonna alternate. But here's the little
- 15:14Speaker 1: twisted it. At seventeen halfway through, we're gonna switch and
- 15:18Speaker 1: the guy that was doing odds is gonna do evens
- 15:21Speaker 1: just to mix it up a little bit. So we
- 15:22Speaker 1: can't like project ahead of time.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Okay, So I love that.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I think it's cool. Do you want to, like, should
- 15:27Speaker 1: we flip a coin? What should we do? Our shout
- 15:29Speaker 1: is you know what, it's my podcast. Yeah, I'm a
- 15:32Speaker 1: gracious guy. Why don't why don't you choose if you
- 15:34Speaker 1: want to lead off or go second.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Okay, I'll lead off only for this reason, Mel and
- 15:39Speaker 2: I did this a comparable exercise where we went back
- 15:41Speaker 2: and forth and I had the evens. So I feel like,
- 15:44Speaker 2: you know, I feel a little naked on the odd
- 15:45Speaker 2: pics right now. And there were a few teams that
- 15:48Speaker 2: I find particularly fascinating with the odds in the first
- 15:51Speaker 2: seventeen picks that I think would be fun to have
- 15:54Speaker 2: the opportunity to be at the control panel of Okay,
- 15:57Speaker 2: so I'll take the odds that work.
- 15:58Speaker 1: That works great. The question is do we want to
- 16:00Speaker 1: do trades where you could say I think this team's
- 16:03Speaker 1: gonna trade up or should we just scrap that.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I think we should do it because I do think
- 16:06Speaker 2: you I agree, there's way too obvious of a likely
- 16:09Speaker 2: trade up that whether it gets done or not, it's
- 16:12Speaker 2: going to be discussed. It probably already has been discussed.
- 16:14Speaker 2: So we should throw that certainly into.
- 16:17Speaker 1: And here's how that will work, because I think we're
- 16:19Speaker 1: doing this on the fly a little bit. Say say
- 16:21Speaker 1: you're at number three and you have the Patriots and
- 16:24Speaker 1: you want to do a trade up. You can say
- 16:26Speaker 1: I'm going to use one of my two trade ups
- 16:29Speaker 1: right here, and here's where it is. And we don't
- 16:31Speaker 1: even need to have the terms. You just put another
- 16:32Speaker 1: team in and we'll go from there. So you have
- 16:34Speaker 1: two trade ups that you can do or trade backs
- 16:37Speaker 1: or whatever it is. I think this makes it really
- 16:39Speaker 1: really fun.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got I've got my pad here that I
- 16:43Speaker 2: pulled out sectually. My two year old loves to scribble
- 16:46Speaker 2: on dad's desk, so I have this. I'm now ready,
- 16:48Speaker 2: just in case I'm taking notes, in case I forget
- 16:50Speaker 2: who I had, is a trade up, trade down, et cetera.
- 16:52Speaker 2: But so should I lead it off here with the
- 16:54Speaker 2: Chicago Bears, nice and easy.
- 16:59Speaker 1: The NFL Draft has begun, the Chicago Bears are on
- 17:03Speaker 1: the clock field. It's selecting for Chicago first.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Overall, I'm going to be more like the Indiana fever
- 17:09Speaker 2: last night during the WNBA draft, where you know you're
- 17:12Speaker 2: taking let's spare everybody the suspense and the drama, or
- 17:14Speaker 2: taking Kayleb Williams know all, using of the nine minutes
- 17:17Speaker 2: and forty five seconds Kaaler Williams usc quarterback. Feel really
- 17:21Speaker 2: good about this one. Obviously, A being accurate and be.
- 17:24Speaker 2: You know, I love the player. There certainly have been
- 17:26Speaker 2: some guys that have made this conversation slightly more interesting,
- 17:29Speaker 2: most notably Jaden Daniels from LSU. But my top overall
- 17:33Speaker 2: player since the first board that I put together Peter
- 17:35Speaker 2: was Kayleb Williams hasn't changed throughout the process. And I
- 17:38Speaker 2: think it's a great situation obviously for Caleb to walk
- 17:41Speaker 2: into in Chicago. Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I've done a lot on these pods talking about the
- 17:46Speaker 1: Caleb Chicago connection. I mentioned yesterday when I was talking
- 17:50Speaker 1: that they've had three really extensive meetings, his Combine experience,
- 17:55Speaker 1: his pro Day experience, and his visit to Chicago. And
- 17:58Speaker 1: I could just tell you talking to the Bears guys,
- 17:59Speaker 1: he's blown them away. And what's blown him away is
- 18:03Speaker 1: his love for football. His passion also a little and
- 18:06Speaker 1: this is going to sound crazy coming from a guy
- 18:07Speaker 1: who made like ten million dollars in an Ael money.
- 18:09Speaker 1: There is a humility there. And what one Bear source
- 18:13Speaker 1: told me, which I loved, is he he walks quietly.
- 18:19Speaker 1: I'm like, what does that mean. It's like he's got
- 18:21Speaker 1: his own pace. He's not a look at me, he's
- 18:23Speaker 1: not wearing you know something that's going to scream into
- 18:26Speaker 1: the crowd. He comes in with the beard, just a
- 18:29Speaker 1: little scruffy. He comes in with just a desire to
- 18:33Speaker 1: talk football, and he wants to be the best to
- 18:35Speaker 1: ever play. And I think everyone does want that deep
- 18:38Speaker 1: in their soul. But like it this humility, which I
- 18:41Speaker 1: didn't see that as the word attached to him. It
- 18:43Speaker 1: seems to be coming through to Chicago people, which I
- 18:46Speaker 1: think that's going to fit greatly in that city and
- 18:48Speaker 1: hopefully he can bring them to New Heights.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Last thing I'll say on Caleb is that you know,
- 18:53Speaker 2: he marches to the beat of his own drum in
- 18:54Speaker 2: the eyes of some and you can view that one
- 18:56Speaker 2: of two ways. One is like, what's up with that?
- 18:59Speaker 2: I don't like people that disrupt the norm. The other
- 19:01Speaker 2: side of it as don't we want authentic athletes?
- 19:04Speaker 1: Don't we want guys who.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Are comfortable in their own skin Because it is not
- 19:08Speaker 2: always going to be easy. Rookie quarterbacks, regardless of where
- 19:11Speaker 2: you end up, face some sort of adversity and I
- 19:13Speaker 2: think Caleb, being Caleb, is well equipped to handle whatever
- 19:17Speaker 2: adversity may come his way. Now maybe that he's got
- 19:20Speaker 2: Keenan Allen Dj Moore a potentially other wide receiver to
- 19:22Speaker 2: throw to, and things are pretty seamless here. But I
- 19:25Speaker 2: do think that Caleb's authenticity is something that really has
- 19:27Speaker 2: shined through during the process.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Agreed number two. The Washington Commanders real quick what they
- 19:43Speaker 1: have done this offseason in acquiring a coaching staff that
- 19:46Speaker 1: I really like, but also a front office. Did you
- 19:49Speaker 1: ever work for the NFL proper? Do you work in
- 19:52Speaker 1: Park Avenue ever?
- 19:53Speaker 2: No, I never did, but I do work with Well.
- 19:55Speaker 2: My first this is a great well is I don't
- 19:57Speaker 2: want to get too far off track here, but my
- 19:59Speaker 2: first summer working with the Patriots in the in house
- 20:04Speaker 2: scouting area, there were three deaths, two of which were
- 20:08Speaker 2: Brian Flores and Adam Peters. So, I mean it's crazy.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I mean it was like if I went through the
- 20:15Speaker 2: people that were in the building at that point, you'd
- 20:16Speaker 2: be blown away. I mean, I think it was like,
- 20:18Speaker 2: I think it's pushing like a dozen or so future
- 20:20Speaker 2: head coaches or gms. But yeah, so I have a
- 20:23Speaker 2: ton of reference for from Adam Peters and I don't.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I'm assuming you're gonna go down to the Dave GUARDI route.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I just wanted to just explain like who he was,
- 20:32Speaker 1: and I find it. So they've got like this, from
- 20:34Speaker 1: what I'm told, they've got like this open floor plan
- 20:37Speaker 1: in Washington right now, where like there's no not everyone's
- 20:40Speaker 1: in their own office. Everyone's kind of collaborating. And like
- 20:42Speaker 1: the thought of Dave Gardy in a commander's shirt sitting
- 20:45Speaker 1: in like an open Facebook style office is like jarring
- 20:49Speaker 1: to me because GUARDI has worked at the league the
- 20:51Speaker 1: entire time that I have been employed by NFL Network,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and I think at Fox and is like the most
- 20:57Speaker 1: trusted and beloved guy at the league office from the
- 21:00Speaker 1: team side, because they go to him with every question
- 21:03Speaker 1: about salary cap, about front office rules, about whether or
- 21:06Speaker 1: not this makes sense with the waiver wire, and there
- 21:09Speaker 1: are so many guys now you're just talking about the
- 21:10Speaker 1: new England Tree. The management council at the league is
- 21:14Speaker 1: a group, and it's all these ivy league guys and
- 21:17Speaker 1: really smart aspiring ladies and they go there and they
- 21:20Speaker 1: learn the league rules inside and out, and then they're
- 21:22Speaker 1: eventually spit out of the league office and they go
- 21:25Speaker 1: to teams all over the league, and you could turn
- 21:28Speaker 1: thirty two teams that have you know, people who worked
- 21:30Speaker 1: started off at the management Council in the League office,
- 21:33Speaker 1: Guardy is all of their mentors, and on Monday to
- 21:38Speaker 1: get the chefter notification that Dave Gardy's leaving the league
- 21:41Speaker 1: office to go work for a team, I was like, Wow, A,
- 21:45Speaker 1: that's surprising, b how cool is that for him? And
- 21:48Speaker 1: then see that was a sneaky hire by the Commanders.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I'm sure a lot of teams would have loved to
- 21:53Speaker 1: have them, And like, I think that is a major
- 21:55Speaker 1: X factor moving forward as the season goes. And I
- 21:58Speaker 1: just love what they've done this offseason and assembling a
- 22:01Speaker 1: group that includes him and obviously Peters and then d
- 22:05Speaker 1: Q and Kingsbury great coaches, but then also to tap
- 22:08Speaker 1: into guys like Bob Myers and to tap into guys
- 22:12Speaker 1: like Dave Gardy who are outside the box hires. I
- 22:14Speaker 1: love it. With the second overall pick, I don't care
- 22:17Speaker 1: if it's Dave Guardy, Adam Peters, Bob Myers making the pick.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels, the Heisman Trophy winner out of LSU I
- 22:24Speaker 1: have going to the Washington Commanders.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I feel good about that one. I mean feel great
- 22:28Speaker 2: about the player. Obviously, after this past season, only player
- 22:32Speaker 2: in FBS history with three hundred and fifty passing yards
- 22:34Speaker 2: and two hundred rushing yards in a single game. I mean,
- 22:36Speaker 2: the guy put up literally game numbers. It's against two.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I gotta watch that against Florida. There are a lot
- 22:42Speaker 2: of Florida grads. We were talking about Howie Roseman earlier
- 22:44Speaker 2: in the show, and you know, and he obviously and
- 22:49Speaker 2: Jed Fish. So I'm sorry if they're listening right now,
- 22:51Speaker 2: but all the Florida grads out there, I apologize, But
- 22:54Speaker 2: that game was I mean, that was extraterrestrial stuff. They
- 22:57Speaker 2: are from from Jada Daniels. I think the draft kind
- 22:59Speaker 2: of start to pick three. Let's think it's interesting, all right,
- 23:02Speaker 2: So the Patriots right now, this I think is the
- 23:04Speaker 2: dilemma if you're in New England is I think you know,
- 23:07Speaker 2: trade down possibilities are in play here, right because as
- 23:09Speaker 2: we know, there are teams that are interested. As we
- 23:12Speaker 2: also know, the price is going to be steep for
- 23:14Speaker 2: those teams to move up, whether it's the Giants from
- 23:16Speaker 2: six to three, whether it's the Vikings from eleven to three,
- 23:19Speaker 2: Broncos twelve to three, Raiders thirteen to three, the big
- 23:23Speaker 2: price sack, right, We're talking about likely three overall first
- 23:26Speaker 2: round you know, first round picks overall, whether they're you know.
- 23:29Speaker 1: From those teams and the teams, yes, like that eleven, twelve,
- 23:32Speaker 1: thirteen you're looking at as the trade lance trade is
- 23:35Speaker 1: kind of like the.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Good DAP point.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the basement offer more than that.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yep, I would say that's exactly where you start. What
- 23:43Speaker 2: I fear if I'm a team moving down that needs
- 23:45Speaker 2: a quarterback is that while the Patriots I think they have,
- 23:48Speaker 2: you know, this is a team, it's still got a
- 23:49Speaker 2: lot of gaps to fill and it might be a
- 23:51Speaker 2: long year this year as they move into a post
- 23:53Speaker 2: Bill Belichick world. You know, the NFL, you could easily
- 23:56Speaker 2: fall to, like the seventh or eighth pick in the
- 23:59Speaker 2: draft with like a five and twelve, six and eleven
- 24:01Speaker 2: record and a couple of weird things take place, or
- 24:04Speaker 2: late in the season you play a team, it's all
- 24:05Speaker 2: sorts of bang up.
- 24:06Speaker 1: In the wilderness.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yeah, So you might take that draft draft capital that
- 24:11Speaker 2: you just acquired and then have to use it to
- 24:12Speaker 2: move back up because you need to solve your quarterback equation.
- 24:16Speaker 2: So I'm going to resist trade down temptation and go
- 24:19Speaker 2: with Drake May, who I don't know that he is
- 24:21Speaker 2: a lock there. If you talk about there are a
- 24:24Speaker 2: couple of players in this draft, but don't generate a
- 24:26Speaker 2: lot of divert divisive opinions. There are sums that some
- 24:30Speaker 2: players that tend to be a little bit more all
- 24:31Speaker 2: over the board. I don't think people have Drake May.
- 24:33Speaker 2: It's like a second round pick. But I think there
- 24:35Speaker 2: are some people that feel like he's absolutely worth every
- 24:37Speaker 2: penny at pick two or pick three. There are others
- 24:39Speaker 2: who say, I wish it were a little bit lower
- 24:41Speaker 2: that I were taking him. You don't have that luxury though.
- 24:43Speaker 2: If you're a team at the top, you take the
- 24:45Speaker 2: player the bird in hand, and I think there's a
- 24:47Speaker 2: ton of potential for Drake May a ton. It may
- 24:50Speaker 2: take some time there, but a twenty twenty year old
- 24:53Speaker 2: six four two thirty with that arm, that's a rocket.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I'm betting on Drake May.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Basketball family, incredible athlete, great kid, superstar. In Charlotte. You
- 25:04Speaker 1: know that Patriots Place in Fox That's like, you know,
- 25:07Speaker 1: it's right back. So they took them to Davio's at
- 25:11Speaker 1: Patriots Place a couple of weeks ago, wind and dined
- 25:13Speaker 1: them and I'm the great Italian steak house there you go.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I talked to multiple people in that building and they they,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I mean, they like Daniels and they're gonna love McCart.
- 25:21Speaker 1: They were spoken about about j who's meeting with him
- 25:23Speaker 1: this week, but they loved Drake May. I think they're
- 25:27Speaker 1: comfortable with Daniels or May and they'll take the chips
- 25:29Speaker 1: that fall as they may. And it's like, we're not
- 25:31Speaker 1: planning on being in the top three too often. Let's
- 25:34Speaker 1: get a quarterback. Just let's not overthink this.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, Chicago was in a unique spot last year where
- 25:39Speaker 2: Justin had still, you know, only two years into his career,
- 25:41Speaker 2: had shown enough promise that you could justify the trade
- 25:43Speaker 2: down and bet on the possibility of Justin ascending. Now,
- 25:46Speaker 2: they ended up getting the first overall pick this year,
- 25:48Speaker 2: so it was all moot. But you just it's a
- 25:50Speaker 2: really difficult thing because if you're moving down with Minnesota
- 25:53Speaker 2: as an example, comp Peter three to eleven, you're not
- 25:55Speaker 2: getting one of those first three or four quarterbacks, and
- 25:58Speaker 2: Minnesota with a good quarterback next year and vat roster,
- 26:01Speaker 2: I know, you kidding me, like that pick that they
- 26:03Speaker 2: would potentially get in twenty twenty five could be like
- 26:05Speaker 2: twenty one two. Right, that's the risk you run. So
- 26:09Speaker 2: we feel good about the first three picks being quarterbacks.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I don't know that it's Patriots at three, but I
- 26:14Speaker 2: would guess the Patriots end up sticking at three, taking
- 26:17Speaker 2: a QB.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Number four the air. I just sip myself, the Arizona
- 26:21Speaker 1: Cardinals are on the clock. I'm going to use one
- 26:24Speaker 1: of my two trade ups.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Okay, one of two has been exhausted. Got here we go, the.
- 26:29Speaker 1: New York Giants two spots from six to four. Here's
- 26:35Speaker 1: the trade compensation. I've kind of gone through the Jimmy
- 26:37Speaker 1: Johnson chart and then talk to people around the league.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Because it's just two spots, I think it would be
- 26:44Speaker 1: the sixth overall pick, all right, a third round pick
- 26:47Speaker 1: from this year, and then next year's second round pick.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Does that seem too light or do you think it
- 26:51Speaker 1: would have to be a little bit more.
- 26:52Speaker 2: No, I think that's that's a good starting point. Now
- 26:54Speaker 2: Arizona will ask for more. I think Arizona would say
- 26:57Speaker 2: give us twenty twenty five to one and we have
- 26:58Speaker 2: a deal right away. I think the Giants would say,
- 27:01Speaker 2: let's negotiate. I remind people of this all the time.
- 27:04Speaker 2: The draft charts a nice proxy, but they matter a
- 27:07Speaker 2: whole lot more the further you get from pick number one, right,
- 27:10Speaker 2: and when you're paying up the price for a quarterback premium,
- 27:14Speaker 2: you can expect that it's not going to follow the
- 27:16Speaker 2: chart perfectly. So regardless of what four sorry six plus
- 27:21Speaker 2: the Giants third rounder plus the twenty twenty five second
- 27:24Speaker 2: rounder says, according to whichever draft chart you like the most,
- 27:28Speaker 2: the Cardinals are going to quote unquote win that trade
- 27:31Speaker 2: based off of the draft value chart. But the Giants
- 27:34Speaker 2: in this scenario, I would assume we're getting a quarterback. Yeah,
- 27:37Speaker 2: And to your point, Arizona is going to be listening
- 27:41Speaker 2: to offers. Minnesota, I truly believe is looking to move up.
- 27:44Speaker 2: I also think Denver would call, although they don't have
- 27:47Speaker 2: many picks to give up, and I think Vegas might call.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I think all that might happen. But I think when
- 27:52Speaker 1: you're Arizona and you could get one of the wide
- 27:55Speaker 1: receivers at six, thank you, Yes, it's and you're not
- 27:58Speaker 1: getting them at eleven, you're not getting them at twelve,
- 28:00Speaker 1: you're not getting at thirteen. So it's a lot less
- 28:03Speaker 1: pain to move back to spots. I think you might
- 28:05Speaker 1: even be where to take less trade compensation.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Completely the future picks.
- 28:10Speaker 1: So I'm going Giants, and then, gosh, a lot of
- 28:13Speaker 1: Giants fans are gonna throw their remotes at the screen
- 28:16Speaker 1: because I know that there's a lot of people out
- 28:18Speaker 1: there who don't want to giant, big blue fans in
- 28:21Speaker 1: my life who are like, no, it's just Daniel Jones
- 28:23Speaker 1: two point zero, don't do this again. We still pay
- 28:25Speaker 1: Daniel Jones JJ McCarthy fourth to the Giants.
- 28:28Speaker 2: There you go. I'm not surprised by that one. There.
- 28:31Speaker 2: I think the most important point you made beyond the
- 28:33Speaker 2: Giants taking a quarterback is that the real risk that
- 28:36Speaker 2: Arizona runs and moving too far down is missing out
- 28:38Speaker 2: on one of these. I'm not going to use the
- 28:40Speaker 2: word generational, but one of these I think surefire wide
- 28:44Speaker 2: receivers because there are three. The depth is tremendous, but
- 28:47Speaker 2: there are three that really are a cut above.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I think there's three and there's a big gap, and
- 28:53Speaker 1: then there's gonna be like five others taken in the
- 28:55Speaker 1: first round. That's how good this wide receiver draft is.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Totally agree So number five is the Chargers. I am
- 29:00Speaker 2: going to Obviously, in this scenario, the trade up has
- 29:03Speaker 2: already kind of taken place to shake up the top five.
- 29:06Speaker 2: So I'm going to say, hey, we have Marvin Harrison
- 29:09Speaker 2: Junior sitting here waiting for us. Now, I have heard
- 29:12Speaker 2: all of you very smart people, including Jim Harbaugh himself,
- 29:15Speaker 2: kind of alluding to it the importance of offensive line
- 29:18Speaker 2: play that should not be dismissed at all. But in
- 29:21Speaker 2: this scenario where I don't think another team's going to
- 29:23Speaker 2: be tempted to move up to five here, I just
- 29:26Speaker 2: I think Minnesota, as an example, might be willing to
- 29:29Speaker 2: run the risk, play the game stand pat a game
- 29:33Speaker 2: of chicken here and say, if we love and I
- 29:35Speaker 2: don't know they love Michael Pennix junior bon Nicks enough
- 29:39Speaker 2: to potentially take him in the first round, we might
- 29:41Speaker 2: be okay with just sitting at pick eleven and hoping
- 29:45Speaker 2: that things work out. So the Chargers end up taking
- 29:47Speaker 2: Marvin Harrison Junior. To me, the most pro ready player
- 29:49Speaker 2: in the class twenty eight, receiving touchdowns over the past
- 29:52Speaker 2: two years, Peter and most in FBS. What's so impressive
- 29:55Speaker 2: about him is the consistency I'm c J. Shroud superstar.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Maybe the best rookie season ever for a quarterback this
- 30:02Speaker 2: past year, though Kyle McCord that that was a disappointing
- 30:05Speaker 2: Ohio State off. It's a number of plays left on
- 30:07Speaker 2: the field was really kind of stunning, except for when
- 30:11Speaker 2: they involved Marvin Harrison. He still went nuts. Yeah, nuts, Yeah.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I love that pick. And truly, if anyone knows what
- 30:18Speaker 1: he can do, it's the guy who played against him
- 30:20Speaker 1: in the Big Game three different times and they're coached
- 30:23Speaker 1: against him, that would be Jim Harbaugh. I love that pick.
- 30:26Speaker 1: I think that's the right pick, especially with Keenan Allen
- 30:28Speaker 1: gone and Mike Williams gone. Six. Now it's Arizona. I
- 30:32Speaker 1: think they put their card in. I know they have
- 30:34Speaker 1: offensive line needs, I know they have a lot of
- 30:36Speaker 1: needs on defense, but I don't think they let Roma
- 30:38Speaker 1: Dunes they fall out of the top six. I'm gonna
- 30:40Speaker 1: go Romadonsay, wide receiver out of Washington. Kyler Murray gets
- 30:45Speaker 1: his guy, and I'm sure you're hearing all the same stuff.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I am great player, maybe a better human. I hate
- 30:52Speaker 1: that term because it's so like it's like just but
- 30:54Speaker 1: like this guy is all World Corner. Yeah, tell me that.
- 31:00Speaker 2: I had the great fortune of being at both the
- 31:02Speaker 2: organ and the Washington Pro Day. Oregon was early in
- 31:04Speaker 2: the cycle. It was day two of free agencies. A
- 31:06Speaker 2: little sparse for crowd. Washington, big crowd. They've got a
- 31:09Speaker 2: ton of guys obviously this year, maybe ten or twelve
- 31:11Speaker 2: or whatever. It is the end of getting drafted. Let
- 31:15Speaker 2: me let me reach up. We're close to ten. Could
- 31:17Speaker 2: potentially be drafted from Washington then never may not be
- 31:20Speaker 2: exactly that, but Rome opted not to take part in
- 31:22Speaker 2: the Pro Day after working out the combin right, he
- 31:25Speaker 2: was the one receiver of that top group that did everything.
- 31:27Speaker 2: But the involvement that he had, Peter, I mean it
- 31:30Speaker 2: was awesome, like he was as involved as somebody could
- 31:32Speaker 2: be without actually taking part in the Pro Day. As
- 31:36Speaker 2: everybody was watching Michael Pennix Junior run his forty, I
- 31:40Speaker 2: was sitting there amongst you know, by one hundred and
- 31:41Speaker 2: twenty five scouts that are all you know, working the
- 31:44Speaker 2: stopwatches in Rome sitting there as well. And after the
- 31:46Speaker 2: forty he I don't know why he turned him, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 2: a group that included me, but he's like, what'd you guys?
- 31:50Speaker 2: Get what'd you guys have? You know? And I'm like, well,
- 31:53Speaker 2: I'm not a scout room, but thank you, but it
- 31:55Speaker 2: was awesome. His encouragement for others and everybody of that
- 31:58Speaker 2: program echoed that sentiment that this is an A plus human.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I'm not going to sit here in front of the
- 32:04Speaker 2: Bay two on Rome versus Malik Neighbors, Peter, I think
- 32:06Speaker 2: it's said energy. I think the reality is that you're
- 32:08Speaker 2: talking about guys who, if we use an arbitrary one
- 32:11Speaker 2: to one hundred scale, these at all be you know,
- 32:13Speaker 2: ninety eight, ninety nine's ninety seven, So we can bicker. Ultimately,
- 32:17Speaker 2: the only people that it matters to about whether they
- 32:20Speaker 2: go wide receiver one, two or three are the first
- 32:22Speaker 2: two teams to take a wide receiver. So if Roma
- 32:25Speaker 2: Dunze ends up being better than the league Neighbors, then
- 32:28Speaker 2: if Neighbors goes ahead of Romaduonze, the team that takes
- 32:30Speaker 2: Neighbors will have to live with that. But ultimately, I
- 32:32Speaker 2: think all three of these guys are just outstanding.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Let me let me do a quick reset here, so
- 32:37Speaker 1: please One Chicago Caleb Williams, two Washington Jaden Daniels three
- 32:41Speaker 1: New England Drake May four New York Giants, JJ McCarthy,
- 32:45Speaker 1: five Los Angeles Chargers, Marvin Harrison Junior, six Arizona Cardinals
- 32:49Speaker 1: take Roma Dunsay wide receiver at A Washington, which goes
- 32:52Speaker 1: to seven Tennessee Titans. Field Yates. You are the Tennessee
- 32:56Speaker 1: front office and coaching staff. Your selection is whom.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Okay, well, here's the truth, Peter. I want to trade
- 33:01Speaker 2: down right now? Is that I want to do and
- 33:02Speaker 2: here's the reason why. I don't know who I'm going
- 33:04Speaker 2: to do it with. And I'm not sure that I
- 33:05Speaker 2: can execute this right now. So I am going to
- 33:10Speaker 2: pick a team, any team. I don't have a team,
- 33:12Speaker 2: and that's kind of killing me right now, I think.
- 33:14Speaker 2: So I'm going to do two things. I'm going to
- 33:17Speaker 2: state that I believe Tennessee is a compelling trade down team. Okay,
- 33:23Speaker 2: we're gonna have some fun here. Let me just rup
- 33:24Speaker 2: things a little bit. Okay, let's do it. Let's shake it.
- 33:26Speaker 1: That's what the whole thing is. Exercise.
- 33:28Speaker 2: It's just gonna be tough to do because they have
- 33:30Speaker 2: they have paid premiums recently. I'm having the New Orleans
- 33:33Speaker 2: Saints trade up here.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I love this go on.
- 33:35Speaker 2: The Titans are at seven, they have a glaring needed
- 33:37Speaker 2: offensive tackle. We all acknowledge that when I am not
- 33:40Speaker 2: convinced of Peters that while I have Joe Walt as
- 33:42Speaker 2: the number one tackle on my board, and I think
- 33:44Speaker 2: many in the draft industry complex have it the same way,
- 33:47Speaker 2: I am not convinced that the league has complete consensus
- 33:50Speaker 2: that is head and shoulders above Tali Fuaga or old
- 33:55Speaker 2: the fashioned new Troy fot Utana, whoever it might be, right,
- 33:58Speaker 2: it's closely clustered enough. And with quarterback it's kind of
- 34:01Speaker 2: like house hunting, right, like if you don't get your
- 34:03Speaker 2: preferred target, you might move on. Right with offense of linemen,
- 34:07Speaker 2: especially when you have one of the absolute greatest to
- 34:10Speaker 2: ever do it, in Bill Callaghan. He might say, hey,
- 34:12Speaker 2: you guys are all happy with Joel seven. Yeah, but
- 34:15Speaker 2: if we're at fourteen we get Olu Fashioner, I'm cool
- 34:17Speaker 2: with it too.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I could coach him up.
- 34:19Speaker 2: So I'm gonna do my trade down. So the Saints
- 34:22Speaker 2: now at seven and the Titans at fourteen, I do
- 34:24Speaker 2: think the Saints have a desperate needed offensive tackle. They
- 34:27Speaker 2: may say, hey, let's address that, I too, all right,
- 34:30Speaker 2: and that which may have to be part of this
- 34:32Speaker 2: this this.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Let's just say this is a swap of seven and
- 34:36Speaker 1: fourteen and we'll go future first round or something like that.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Sounds right to me. Off the board, he stays home
- 34:40Speaker 2: New Orleans, neighbors and a lave. I love it. Yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 2: And then they do need a wide receiver here. You
- 34:45Speaker 2: know there are as in investments, you know, relatively modest.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Cedric Wilson on a two year deal. Guy who's released,
- 34:51Speaker 2: I guess he's Conjuringspirer to Miami. So I think New
- 34:54Speaker 2: Orleans is a sneaky wide receiver team, and it's right
- 34:57Speaker 2: here would be as good as it gets on the
- 34:59Speaker 2: wide receiver front. I love fun here.
- 35:02Speaker 1: And jumping Atlanta at a who might have been in
- 35:04Speaker 1: the neighbors quote. It's funny. The regime everyone thinks is
- 35:09Speaker 1: like an old regime because Roheie Morris coach, But it's
- 35:12Speaker 1: not true because Terry Fonteo in Atlanta, the GM is
- 35:15Speaker 1: the one who drafted Pits and London and Bijon, And
- 35:20Speaker 1: it's three different offensive players at skill positions in the
- 35:23Speaker 1: top ten in three consecutive years. I don't see an
- 35:28Speaker 1: offensive skill position player now as we have gone quarterback, quarterback, quarterback,
- 35:31Speaker 1: wide receiver, wide receiver, wide receiver. I think Atlanta takes
- 35:34Speaker 1: the first defensive player off the board. I'm going Dallas Turner,
- 35:38Speaker 1: pass rusher out of Alabama.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Yeah. One thing we know, I'll just make this in.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I don't have a lot to try to disrupt this,
- 35:44Speaker 2: but Terry Fonteau, the Falcons GM targets young players. Has
- 35:47Speaker 2: been a big part of his calculus. And Dallas Turner there,
- 35:51Speaker 2: he's a true junior. Right, so it's only got three
- 35:52Speaker 2: years in colleges.
- 35:53Speaker 1: You know one of your contributors I've played yep.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I'll play them all yep. And was the SEC Defensive
- 35:58Speaker 2: Player of the Year this past year. Great length, right, athleticism,
- 36:00Speaker 2: ten plus sacks, versatility as well the Falcons, like I mean,
- 36:05Speaker 2: Terry Foutna has or he's lean young. Maybe it's too
- 36:08Speaker 2: small to sample size to say that this is a
- 36:10Speaker 2: forever trend, but back to back to back years of
- 36:12Speaker 2: going very young. Make it the fourth straight year. So
- 36:14Speaker 2: that brings us to the Jets at number.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Ten, It doesn't it brings us to the Bears at
- 36:18Speaker 1: number nine.
- 36:18Speaker 2: It brings us to the Bears at number nine, all right, So, Peter,
- 36:22Speaker 2: this one's really interesting, and this might be one of
- 36:25Speaker 2: those where, like the bear's screaming needs right now are
- 36:27Speaker 2: no longer screaming, right. I mean, they have a lot
- 36:29Speaker 2: of work this offseason. I think if one of the
- 36:31Speaker 2: three receivers is here, it's really, really, really tempting to
- 36:34Speaker 2: just take whoever is available out of Molie Neighbors or
- 36:37Speaker 2: potentially Ramadoonza. I think that Ed Rusher is certainly a
- 36:41Speaker 2: consideration as well, even after the Montes sweat trade, but
- 36:44Speaker 2: no Dallas Turner here. Layout to Lati will get to
- 36:46Speaker 2: it at some point, but I do think that given
- 36:49Speaker 2: the medical history, there are some that might feel as
- 36:51Speaker 2: though inside that top ten could come with too much risk.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to the offensive line, and they do. Obviously,
- 36:56Speaker 2: they made a big investment in Darnell right last year,
- 36:58Speaker 2: so this is not a right tackle investment and it
- 37:00Speaker 2: may not necessarily be a left tackle investment either. And
- 37:03Speaker 2: this is where it gets fun. Do you take a
- 37:05Speaker 2: Joe Waltz or do you take a Tay Fought Utanu?
- 37:08Speaker 2: And I'm gonna lean towards fot Utanu here. Really the board,
- 37:11Speaker 2: I love that off the board.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Yeah, So Hey, no one had right going as the
- 37:15Speaker 1: first offensive tackle last year and he did, so this
- 37:17Speaker 1: is this could be true.
- 37:18Speaker 2: This may be crazy. But so with Braxton Jones at
- 37:22Speaker 2: left tackle, who's a thirty year player now, brown pick
- 37:24Speaker 2: out of Southern Utah a few years ago. The Bears
- 37:26Speaker 2: are in good shape, but not like this is not
- 37:30Speaker 2: I think he's a good player. I don't think, yeah,
- 37:32Speaker 2: we're not if he were to eventually be replaced by
- 37:35Speaker 2: this player. It's not like you're replacing Trent Williams and
- 37:37Speaker 2: his prime. So Troy fot Wutan, who at worst, Peter
- 37:41Speaker 2: is you're super sub at left tackle, left guard, right guard,
- 37:44Speaker 2: right tackle. I think he's a Day one starter a
- 37:46Speaker 2: guard for the Bears. And maybe maybe you're saying that
- 37:49Speaker 2: this is too much of an investment for back to
- 37:52Speaker 2: back years taking a right tackle and then potentially an
- 37:54Speaker 2: in tier offensive lineman. You got a young quarterback. I
- 37:56Speaker 2: am sort of saying, I don't care about the conventional norms.
- 37:59Speaker 2: I am taking Troy fot Utan here and now the
- 38:02Speaker 2: Jets around the clock and maybe the dreams.
- 38:04Speaker 1: I don't know about the dream scenario a sion And look,
- 38:07Speaker 1: you say, Joe Alt's there like that's a dream scenario.
- 38:09Speaker 1: But then I don't know they Rock Bowers is really
- 38:15Speaker 1: really good. I mean, that's a and the Jets from everyone. Look,
- 38:18Speaker 1: there's certain teams unplugged in with Jets or one of them.
- 38:20Speaker 1: They've told me. Anything's on the board obviously, and trade
- 38:24Speaker 1: back is an option. So they don't have a second
- 38:27Speaker 1: round pick this year? Do they think about trading back
- 38:29Speaker 1: here and collecting some more pieces? All right? If it
- 38:32Speaker 1: goes this way, gosh, offensive tackle versus tight end, I'm
- 38:35Speaker 1: going down to alt or Bowers.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Gosh, I know it's fun.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Right When did they take Beckon then the eleventh pick
- 38:45Speaker 1: couple of years ago?
- 38:46Speaker 2: Eleven?
- 38:46Speaker 1: Yeah, he's already a flame out and I don't think
- 38:49Speaker 1: he's been signed anywhere.
- 38:51Speaker 2: All will not be that. Gosh, that's I would agree
- 38:55Speaker 2: on that, all right.
- 38:56Speaker 1: For the sake of I'm gonna go Rock Bowers tight
- 39:03Speaker 1: end over Joe al might they might regret that, but
- 39:06Speaker 1: you know what, I feel like Rogers might want some
- 39:09Speaker 1: weapons and Bowers can, Bowers can ball. I'm gonna go
- 39:12Speaker 1: Bowers to the Jets at eleven. At ten. Oh, that
- 39:16Speaker 1: felt weird, which leads to the Minnesota Vikings, who did
- 39:19Speaker 1: not get one of the top four quarterbacks at number eleven.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Field eight's here on the clock.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so thoughts here would be quarterback. I just don't
- 39:26Speaker 2: know that's the right spot there. You know, there's some
- 39:28Speaker 2: good offensive lineman here, but they've got a great tackle
- 39:30Speaker 2: duo ed rusher. Still feels like a need here. So
- 39:36Speaker 2: I thought that maybe because quasy Dopha. Benza has obviously
- 39:41Speaker 2: has Cleveland roots, San Francisco roots as well Cleveland. Andrew
- 39:43Speaker 2: Berry certainly a skewed, very young at his high caliber
- 39:47Speaker 2: picks right Also, like I was talking on Terry Fontno,
- 39:50Speaker 2: you know, Ryan Gregson, very prominent role there in Minnesota
- 39:53Speaker 2: former Colts GM, and I think that he's got enough
- 39:56Speaker 2: of the voice that they may say, you know, we're
- 39:57Speaker 2: not going to stick to just you know, young guys.
- 39:59Speaker 2: So I'm gonna go lay out to a lot too.
- 40:01Speaker 2: Peter and I just mentioned how like he's it too
- 40:02Speaker 2: much of a risk inside the top ten. Is it
- 40:04Speaker 2: possible to take him outside the top ten a number eleven,
- 40:07Speaker 2: So I'm speaking out of both sides of my mouth
- 40:08Speaker 2: and just saying based off how the board fail right now,
- 40:11Speaker 2: I'm going to play out to Latsu and I'm doing
- 40:13Speaker 2: this with the implicit sort of understanding or acknowledgment that
- 40:16Speaker 2: their medical staff is comfortable with where things are at,
- 40:19Speaker 2: and Alto is a terrific player, such an advanced, nuanced
- 40:23Speaker 2: pass rusher. So they lose to Neil Hunter, and they
- 40:25Speaker 2: replace him with Jonathan Grenard and also lely Onto a lot.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I don't think if you're a Vikings fan, you could
- 40:30Speaker 1: complain about that pick at all. You'd look at the
- 40:32Speaker 1: board and you'd say, Okay, that's that's how it fell.
- 40:35Speaker 1: We didn't give up the next five drafts. We didn't
- 40:37Speaker 1: get the quarterback, but let's get the best, you know,
- 40:40Speaker 1: first or second best pass rusher in this draft, which
- 40:42Speaker 1: leads to Denver at twelve. I've got two guys in
- 40:46Speaker 1: mind here, neither one being a quarterback. I'm gonna if
- 40:50Speaker 1: I'm Denver, I'm thinking here, okay, we're gonna go Joe
- 40:54Speaker 1: Alt offensive tackle. I know they've got they're paying Mike
- 40:59Speaker 1: mclinchee a lot of money, and they obviously have Garrett Bowles,
- 41:02Speaker 1: but I think.
- 41:03Speaker 2: In his thirty now he came in the league, is
- 41:05Speaker 2: an older player right now. You know it was a
- 41:07Speaker 2: late entrant and he had I believe he had turned
- 41:10Speaker 2: college as a mission that he took. Yes, so he's
- 41:13Speaker 2: an older prospect. Or he was an older prospect. So
- 41:15Speaker 2: he's at the point now where like looking towards the future,
- 41:17Speaker 2: it's not the worst thing in the world. Plus Joe
- 41:19Speaker 2: hold it picked twelve is pretty darn.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Good, right, pretty good, and they don't have to mortgage
- 41:23Speaker 1: the future to get it. And another team that didn't
- 41:25Speaker 1: get a quarterback at eleven or twelve or twelve, but
- 41:28Speaker 1: I think they'd be happy there, which leads to the
- 41:31Speaker 1: Raiders at thirteen.
- 41:32Speaker 2: You're on the clock, buddy, Yep, I'm going to make
- 41:34Speaker 2: it easy here, Michael Pennix Junior. And yeah, right, I
- 41:41Speaker 2: haven't read your mock yet this morning, and there's a
- 41:43Speaker 2: chance that he's not even in the first round. I
- 41:45Speaker 2: don't know. I am going to this unvarnished. I am
- 41:48Speaker 2: not at all. I have no idea what you said,
- 41:50Speaker 2: so I'm gonna acknowledge that right away. But Michael Pennix
- 41:54Speaker 2: Junior would feel, you know, there's an interesting team, right.
- 41:57Speaker 2: They're saying all the right things about Aidan O'Connell and
- 41:59Speaker 2: how he's going to have to lose the job for
- 42:01Speaker 2: someone to take over for him, and they signed gard
- 42:03Speaker 2: new Minister this two year deal. But if you look
- 42:05Speaker 2: at the quarterback market, like nothing about the finance that
- 42:08Speaker 2: says guaranteed starter. So Michael Pennix Junior ends up in
- 42:12Speaker 2: Las Vegas. It's really tough to pass on both Olu
- 42:16Speaker 2: Fashionu and also Tali Fluaga, especially Puaga because they have
- 42:19Speaker 2: Colton Miller. He could be a plug and play right
- 42:21Speaker 2: tackle there. But I end up with Michael Pennix Junior
- 42:25Speaker 2: at thirteen. Dude, I love that. I love having fought, haven't.
- 42:29Speaker 2: But I should say this. I know entertainment rules, and
- 42:32Speaker 2: I'm not trying to know. There's a lot of arguments.
- 42:35Speaker 2: There's sort of conceivable. I think this is a not
- 42:37Speaker 2: to be dismissed possibility.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Yeah, And I would also say if bo Nicks went
- 42:42Speaker 1: twelve to Denver, I wouldn't bat and eye either. Like,
- 42:46Speaker 1: quarterbacks are at a premium and there are about six
- 42:49Speaker 1: of them that are going to go in the first
- 42:50Speaker 1: or second round. If you like them enough to take
- 42:52Speaker 1: them in the thirties, you might as well take them
- 42:54Speaker 1: at twelve or thirteen.
- 42:55Speaker 2: That's how I feel as well, totally all right.
- 42:58Speaker 1: So the Titans are on the board now because of
- 42:59Speaker 1: your Saints trade.
- 43:01Speaker 2: I mean, this is perfect scenario for them, perfect just.
- 43:03Speaker 1: A bunch of offensive tackles that they can still live there.
- 43:06Speaker 1: All there, I will go with Talisa Fuaga at Oregon
- 43:11Speaker 1: State as their pick at fourteen. I got to talk
- 43:16Speaker 1: with him at the combine. That is all business. He
- 43:19Speaker 1: is a maller and whatever team gets him is going
- 43:22Speaker 1: to love his his attitude in addition to the play.
- 43:25Speaker 1: I love I love his game.
- 43:27Speaker 2: All right, let me just say one thing to help
- 43:28Speaker 2: you out here. It's a tough first name to pronounce.
- 43:30Speaker 2: I've hurt him. I've heard him do interviews and people
- 43:32Speaker 2: have different ways and he's icknowledged them both. But on
- 43:36Speaker 2: the pro day circuit and talking to teams, he's often
- 43:38Speaker 2: said I'm Tally, so Tally seems to work as well.
- 43:41Speaker 2: So you know, I guess first mentioned. We'll try to
- 43:44Speaker 2: name the you know, Tally, yes, Paga. Try to hit
- 43:46Speaker 2: it correctly, and I apologize if I missed it there.
- 43:49Speaker 2: But apparently he goes by Tali, or has gone by
- 43:51Speaker 2: Tally during the pre draft process to some so hopefully
- 43:54Speaker 2: sooner enough we can all call him Tally if that's
- 43:57Speaker 2: what he prefers to be called. That leads us to
- 43:59Speaker 2: the fifteenth pick. So my final odds team pick Andlas
- 44:04Speaker 2: is here. All right, So Indy's been mocked so many
- 44:06Speaker 2: times with the corner that almost feels boring, Peter, and
- 44:09Speaker 2: yet I am going to do the boring thing and
- 44:11Speaker 2: give them Quinon Mitchell from Toledo, who has been borerlin
- 44:14Speaker 2: flallbless during the pre draft process. This is a big
- 44:16Speaker 2: time college player at Toledo, though, right, so how is
- 44:19Speaker 2: he going to handle better competition? Goes to the Senior Bowl.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Look like he more than belonged. He was the dominant player.
- 44:25Speaker 2: The guy was just absolutely aces there, ran four three
- 44:28Speaker 2: three at the combine. It's got a good size, that's
- 44:30Speaker 2: excellent speed. Obviously great kid. I mean his football knowledge.
- 44:35Speaker 2: I talked to scouts that how like this guy is
- 44:37Speaker 2: like Einstein, Like he's really his recall is terrific. Some
- 44:41Speaker 2: of the stuff that he has shown during that pre
- 44:43Speaker 2: draft process has been really impressive there. So Quenyon Mitchell,
- 44:47Speaker 2: his intellect combined with his physical skill set makes me
- 44:51Speaker 2: feel like he is a good bet. In the first
- 44:54Speaker 2: half of the first round, Indianapolis at fifteen. They got
- 44:56Speaker 2: by last year with a very young and not heavily
- 45:00Speaker 2: invested corner room, especially at the perimeter spots. But it
- 45:03Speaker 2: wouldn't surprise me if they make a bigger investment this
- 45:06Speaker 2: off season with qu I.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Like it, Seahawks sitting there at sixteen. I am looking here,
- 45:20Speaker 1: and if I'm the Seahawks, I see a corner that
- 45:23Speaker 1: I like. I also see the offensive tackle out of
- 45:27Speaker 1: Penn State. Let's go there, let's go conservative here, help
- 45:30Speaker 1: me with this one field sixteen out of Penn State.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Oh fashion, new FASHIONU to the Seattle Seahawks at sixteen
- 45:39Speaker 1: the OT. Now we've got a little run on our
- 45:42Speaker 1: big offensive tackles here, which goes to seventeen, which is
- 45:45Speaker 1: going to be my pick Jacksonville.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Okay, I'm glad that I flipped here because this one's
- 45:50Speaker 2: a tricky one.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I think, yeah, I'm gonna go oh, because I know
- 45:55Speaker 1: I'm going to go Terrian Arnold out of Alabama. I
- 45:59Speaker 1: will say this red shirt sophomore, but yet was, from
- 46:04Speaker 1: what I'm told, the leader of that Alabama defense. And
- 46:08Speaker 1: like the face, even with Dallas Turner there, and it's
- 46:10Speaker 1: like the voice, the face and like the most charismatic
- 46:16Speaker 1: kid in this draft perhaps, and just a magnetism to
- 46:19Speaker 1: him and how special a guy he was and his
- 46:21Speaker 1: connection I was saving in those folks. I think he's
- 46:23Speaker 1: going to be a top twenty pick. Obviously he might
- 46:25Speaker 1: go before Mitchell in the draft. I'm gonna say, Terry
- 46:29Speaker 1: and Arnold, here's seventeen to Jacksonville, Okay.
- 46:32Speaker 2: I like it a number seventeen that the corner would
- 46:34Speaker 2: certainly be one of the most primary needs for that
- 46:36Speaker 2: team right now. Darius Williams release, he returns for the
- 46:39Speaker 2: Rams this offseason, and you know they signed Ronald Darby
- 46:43Speaker 2: do material two year deal. What they need to continue
- 46:45Speaker 2: to kind of hammer away in that secondary. There, So
- 46:47Speaker 2: a good pick there. I am going to go at
- 46:51Speaker 2: number eighteen the Cincinnati Bengals, who you have to look
- 46:54Speaker 2: both short and long term, right t Higgins recently said
- 46:57Speaker 2: he expects to be back for twenty twenty four, but
- 47:00Speaker 2: still he's in a FRA. He's a franchise tag player
- 47:02Speaker 2: who previously requested a trade wide receiver in need there,
- 47:05Speaker 2: But I'm going to Maus Mims. The team recently signed
- 47:08Speaker 2: Trent Brown to a one year deal. Brown obviously a
- 47:10Speaker 2: very talented player when he's on the field and engaged,
- 47:13Speaker 2: but one year deal and a guy that you can't
- 47:15Speaker 2: always expect to be, you know, wire to wire dominant player.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Marius Mamms is a dice roll. This guy has eight
- 47:22Speaker 2: hundred and three college snaps to his name. Peter eight
- 47:25Speaker 2: starts eight and three college snaps. That is fewer snaps
- 47:28Speaker 2: than Joe all played this season alone. So different level
- 47:31Speaker 2: of experience, but all the talent. He's got a nearly
- 47:33Speaker 2: eighty seven inch wingspan. If you're a nerd like you
- 47:36Speaker 2: and I are, and you love wingspans and arm length
- 47:38Speaker 2: and things like that, that a Marius Mams checks every box.
- 47:41Speaker 2: It's going to take some time here, obviously to develop him,
- 47:44Speaker 2: but I think highly of this prospect. If he can
- 47:46Speaker 2: put it all together, eighteen will end up being a
- 47:49Speaker 2: value and not a reach for Amarius Mams.
- 47:51Speaker 1: I love that number. Nineteen is the Rams, as you
- 47:54Speaker 1: know about baby.
- 47:55Speaker 2: I know I'm listening closely here.
- 47:57Speaker 1: First time that the Rams have had a first round
- 48:00Speaker 1: pick with Sean McVay as their coach.
- 48:02Speaker 2: How nothing is that insane? Like DeShawn even know the
- 48:05Speaker 2: draft begins next Thursday.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I think he's a picabo. I think he's chilling, yeah,
- 48:11Speaker 1: I don't know who they're gonna take, I'll tell you that.
- 48:13Speaker 1: And they don't know who they're gonna take. How the
- 48:14Speaker 1: board falls, I will say this, I would be absolutely
- 48:16Speaker 1: shocked if they don't take an offensive player. This is
- 48:18Speaker 1: mcveigh's first draft.
- 48:19Speaker 2: I don't think they're going to take a great note.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna take a middle line back.
- 48:23Speaker 2: It's just me just knowing him.
- 48:24Speaker 1: I don't think I'll taking a middle linebacker or a
- 48:26Speaker 1: third corner. I think they're gonna go offense. The question
- 48:29Speaker 1: is do they take a skill position player or do
- 48:31Speaker 1: they take it for the sake of fun? Okay, just
- 48:34Speaker 1: for fun? Yep, there are a million ways they can
- 48:38Speaker 1: go here. I do not have this from them directly,
- 48:41Speaker 1: but I look at the way that this guy plays,
- 48:43Speaker 1: and I know the way that not only Sean, but
- 48:46Speaker 1: like Kyle Shanahan wants a player. How about this shocker
- 48:50Speaker 1: nineteen rams take Lad McConkie out of Georgia.
- 48:53Speaker 2: It's a fun one. No, it's so it's interesting. I
- 48:56Speaker 2: mean during the process, I have, like from the very
- 48:58Speaker 2: first time that you watch Lad screen the tape, there's
- 49:02Speaker 2: elements of the tape that screen first round pick right,
- 49:04Speaker 2: But yes, Georgia offense, which had two players last year,
- 49:07Speaker 2: they had two separate running backs with Kendall Milton de
- 49:10Speaker 2: Jon Edwards, who had thirteen bust rutching touchdowns. They had
- 49:12Speaker 2: Rock Bauers right and Marcus Roseby jacksont a Senior Bowl
- 49:15Speaker 2: attendee who could get drafted as well. Like a lot
- 49:18Speaker 2: of mouths defeats so Ladd's overall production, especially when you
- 49:20Speaker 2: factor in the time miss due to the injury. You know, like,
- 49:24Speaker 2: is it going to blow you away? No, it is not.
- 49:26Speaker 2: But it's a hell of a player and he is.
- 49:29Speaker 2: He's an outstanding right runner, which everybody knows.
- 49:32Speaker 1: It's smart, smart smart. I think of it, and I
- 49:35Speaker 1: know they're both white receivers, but like he looks like
- 49:37Speaker 1: a skinnier Cooper Cup when I watch him, and.
- 49:38Speaker 2: I'm like, people get mad when you make that compy.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Elements of it that come that are I think are
- 49:44Speaker 2: our pertinent.
- 49:44Speaker 1: I asked, I asked for a player come to a
- 49:46Speaker 1: wide receivers coach that I trust in the league. And
- 49:48Speaker 1: he didn't go Cooper Cup. He said Terry McLaurin. Just
- 49:50Speaker 1: the intelligence and the route running and the ability and
- 49:53Speaker 1: you know what. I know, Brian Thomas is on the board.
- 49:55Speaker 1: I know ad Mitchell's on the board. It's my mock draft.
- 49:57Speaker 1: I have the Rams taking Lad McConkie, Peter.
- 49:59Speaker 2: There are shocks every year, and I love Ladam. He's
- 50:02Speaker 2: been a, you know, a fixture in the top forty
- 50:04Speaker 2: or so players from my board for throughout this so
- 50:07Speaker 2: as nineteen a rege relative to my board sort of.
- 50:09Speaker 2: But I tell you this all the time. The further
- 50:11Speaker 2: you get away from the beginning of the draft, like
- 50:15Speaker 2: the lesson really matters, Peter. I'm just telling everybody. Everybody
- 50:18Speaker 2: has a different board, everybody has different things they value.
- 50:20Speaker 2: There are a couple of wide receivers that I thought
- 50:22Speaker 2: to myself that they go to the Rams specifically, I
- 50:24Speaker 2: would love them. If they go elsewhere, I wouldn't be
- 50:26Speaker 2: quite as optimistic. So I totally get that pick that
- 50:29Speaker 2: gets me the Steelers at number twenty. I'm good to
- 50:31Speaker 2: keep up with my boring theme here, but sometimes boring
- 50:33Speaker 2: means it feels strongly about it. And I'm going Graham
- 50:36Speaker 2: Barton center from Duke guy who played left tackle the
- 50:40Speaker 2: past three years. Peter's this true freshman center for Duke.
- 50:44Speaker 2: So he's played the interior before. You know, again back
- 50:48Speaker 2: to like arm length and wingspan. Those are the kind
- 50:50Speaker 2: of things that suggests he's more of an interior player.
- 50:52Speaker 2: The Steelers have really worked hard to reshape that offensive
- 50:54Speaker 2: line over the past fourteen twelve fourteen months, both free
- 50:58Speaker 2: agency last year and the draft last year. So give
- 51:00Speaker 2: me Graham Barton, who at worst gives you two position
- 51:03Speaker 2: of flexibility. I think he's probably your day one starter.
- 51:06Speaker 2: They've released Mason Cole actually, like at the beginning of
- 51:09Speaker 2: the waiver period, they have not yet replaced him, at
- 51:12Speaker 2: least notably to this point. So the Steelers get Graham Barton. Okay,
- 51:16Speaker 2: love it.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Here's what we're gonna do for twenty one to thirty two. Okay,
- 51:20Speaker 1: we're just gonna go your ten seconds on the clock
- 51:23Speaker 1: in rapid fire. I think that's a fair way to
- 51:25Speaker 1: do it, all right. Twenty one is the Dolphins. I
- 51:28Speaker 1: am going to go with Byron Murphy, the defensive tackle
- 51:34Speaker 1: out of Texas.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Yep, okay, love it. He's I mean, the guy had
- 51:38Speaker 2: just an awesome, awesome final season right.
- 51:40Speaker 1: There, and so good at the combine and so good
- 51:43Speaker 1: at the work. Oh yeah, I think that's a great
- 51:45Speaker 1: spot for him at twenty one.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yep, twenty two Philadelphia Eagles. This is me. I'll go
- 51:49Speaker 2: Tyler Geiton, offensive tackle from Oklahoma. They have a long
- 51:52Speaker 2: history of taking players early, as in like addressing positions
- 51:56Speaker 2: earlier than they need them. They do not necessarily need
- 51:58Speaker 2: an offensive tackle, but this would be Jeff Stoutland's newest project.
- 52:01Speaker 2: They're terrific offensive line coach. This kid has so much talent,
- 52:06Speaker 2: great feet, left tackle or right tackle.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Potential vikings on the board. I am attempted to do
- 52:13Speaker 1: it because he Bo Nicks quarterback. Oregon have him to
- 52:18Speaker 1: do it, right, do Yeah? I don't know, Like they
- 52:20Speaker 1: sit up twenty three and our Vikings fans like, okay,
- 52:23Speaker 1: in this scenario, we got lot too in bow Nicks.
- 52:25Speaker 1: What the hell we thought we were getting Drake? May
- 52:28Speaker 1: you know, like, are they just like blah or do
- 52:30Speaker 1: you look at that and say, all right, bow Nicks
- 52:32Speaker 1: is definitely better than Sam Darnold.
- 52:34Speaker 2: I don't know that, I know, I know it's well.
- 52:36Speaker 2: The only thing I will say though, is just you know,
- 52:38Speaker 2: with the one year deal for Sam, you have to
- 52:40Speaker 2: already be mindful of twenty twenty five, right. Other things
- 52:43Speaker 2: don't go well, then you're obviously looking for a quarterback.
- 52:46Speaker 2: If things do go well, then you're gonna have to
- 52:49Speaker 2: reinvest in Sam. And you know, negotiating quarterback contracts is
- 52:52Speaker 2: not always easy. So all right, so this is where
- 52:55Speaker 2: things get fun.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 52:56Speaker 2: So we are up to pick number twenty four, the
- 52:58Speaker 2: Cowboys on the clock. I think this is a team
- 53:00Speaker 2: that obviously needs an offensive tackle. I certainly would be
- 53:03Speaker 2: looking at the various options here. I would consider a
- 53:07Speaker 2: trained down because I think that right now, Peter, like
- 53:09Speaker 2: I may have reached the threshold of my offensive tackle
- 53:11Speaker 2: that I think that like unimpeachable first round picks. So
- 53:15Speaker 2: what I am going to do is do a little
- 53:18Speaker 2: bit of a reach here, Peter, and go with Jordan Morgan,
- 53:20Speaker 2: left tackle from Arizona. Not a huge reach, but a
- 53:22Speaker 2: tiny bit of a reach here. Uh something. He could
- 53:25Speaker 2: be a guard at the next level. Here's the good
- 53:26Speaker 2: news for Dallas. If he ends up being a guard,
- 53:28Speaker 2: they already have a potential left tackle in Tyler Smith.
- 53:31Speaker 2: The preference, though, would be to leave Tyler Smith at
- 53:34Speaker 2: left guard, so you have Jordan Morgan. If he works
- 53:36Speaker 2: out at left tackle, you keep things status quote. Otherwise,
- 53:39Speaker 2: if he doesn't work out at left tackle. You put
- 53:41Speaker 2: him to that left guard, Tyler Smith left tackle.
- 53:44Speaker 1: I'm going to give you a bailout here if you want,
- 53:46Speaker 1: because I know how this goes. You've got a board,
- 53:48Speaker 1: You've got all this fictional stuff. Would you rather have
- 53:51Speaker 1: JC Latham? Or is that? Is that a no mission
- 53:54Speaker 1: of still on the board?
- 53:56Speaker 2: Fully crap, Peter, I don't, okay. So this feels like
- 53:58Speaker 2: a massive, massive ror in our ways people. All right,
- 54:02Speaker 2: so we needed to just acknowledge its like I put it.
- 54:05Speaker 2: I think I would have taken I'm like fourteen all right.
- 54:07Speaker 1: So let's go back. Let's go back, let's go back.
- 54:09Speaker 1: So let's go tackles here.
- 54:10Speaker 2: So, yeah, yeah, I.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Had we had all. No, you took Chicago, went out
- 54:16Speaker 1: of Washington. Do you want to keep that?
- 54:18Speaker 2: I will keep that one right there?
- 54:19Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, well yeah I took Joe all I
- 54:22Speaker 1: still want to keep that. This is where we go, Titans.
- 54:25Speaker 1: I still want Fuaga over him?
- 54:26Speaker 2: Okay, all good, No problem there.
- 54:28Speaker 1: The Hawks. I still want Shanu over him.
- 54:31Speaker 2: So I guess I didn't really take too many of attacks.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Angles he took it, took Mims over him. Do you want.
- 54:37Speaker 2: I do. I do, and I apologize to j C. Latham,
- 54:39Speaker 2: so to both Jason Latham and A Marius Mam. So
- 54:42Speaker 2: we'll just keep sliding the guys down the border here here,
- 54:46Speaker 2: I like this.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Latham goes eighteen, and then do you want Graham Barton
- 54:51Speaker 1: still Steelers there, okay.
- 54:53Speaker 2: And then Mims can go and slide down. So we'll
- 54:56Speaker 2: go to the Eagles. Yeah, there we go, okay, and
- 54:59Speaker 2: then they always get guit So I apologize. This is
- 55:02Speaker 2: the reality of doing a off draft on the fly
- 55:05Speaker 2: right eater screen and going to old school writing things down.
- 55:08Speaker 2: So I love that, all right. So those three impacted
- 55:11Speaker 2: parties there.
- 55:12Speaker 1: You're gonna have to write a long letter to Jordan Morgan.
- 55:14Speaker 1: He thought it was the first round pick. I don't
- 55:15Speaker 1: know about it, all right, So let's just to recap here.
- 55:20Speaker 1: Instead of Mims at eighteen, the Bengals take JC Latham,
- 55:25Speaker 1: and then the Eagles take Mimes from Georgia, and then
- 55:29Speaker 1: the Cowboys they.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Take Tyler Gaydon, Tyler Guyton Oklahoma, yep, so take it.
- 55:38Speaker 1: We're good, moving back all down the field here, sorry, yes,
- 55:41Speaker 1: we're back on course.
- 55:42Speaker 2: We're good.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Uh, Packers, I'll go with there are a bunch of
- 55:47Speaker 1: wide receivers sitting there, dude, But I don't know.
- 55:49Speaker 2: They've made so many investments there, right.
- 55:51Speaker 1: They have all those late round guys that all were
- 55:53Speaker 1: awesome last year. Uh, Packers, I will go west, Uh
- 56:02Speaker 1: the Packers. I will go with Jared Verse out.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Of Florida like a state, yep, and keep beefing up
- 56:08Speaker 2: that edge rush. You know, Preston Smith restructured his contract
- 56:11Speaker 2: this offseason. Keeps him around, but at some point, you know,
- 56:14Speaker 2: he's he's the oldest player on the team's president. I
- 56:16Speaker 2: think he's the only guy in the thirties by the way,
- 56:18Speaker 2: the entire Yeah, so a very very young roster.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Obviously still kicking there.
- 56:23Speaker 2: Yeah, Mays ended up with the Rams last season.
- 56:26Speaker 1: Yeah, they took one of the other Carlson guys. They
- 56:28Speaker 1: took one of those two.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go. Yep. All right, so we are
- 56:31Speaker 2: back to pick number twenty six years we are rolling
- 56:34Speaker 2: along him on the evens again. This is my way
- 56:36Speaker 2: of filibustering for the for the Bucks, I'll take Chop Robinson,
- 56:40Speaker 2: who if you look at the profile of players they
- 56:42Speaker 2: have drafted early in Tampa, they have definitely skewed towards
- 56:45Speaker 2: athletic guys. Chop Robinson is an elite athlete, somewhat of
- 56:48Speaker 2: a divisive prospect because he had modest college production. Peter
- 56:51Speaker 2: just four sacks last year to ast Yeah, and two
- 56:55Speaker 2: of which game against UMass uh. So you know, to
- 56:58Speaker 2: two sacks in the and the games against the tiffer competition.
- 57:01Speaker 2: But that first step quickness is just so good, Peter,
- 57:04Speaker 2: he is. I think this is the definition of a
- 57:06Speaker 2: better pro than college player. So I'll go Chop Robinson.
- 57:09Speaker 1: There, Chop Robinson.
- 57:10Speaker 2: It is okay.
- 57:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with another Robinson on the defensive line
- 57:14Speaker 1: for the Arizona Cardinals twenty seven. I'm gonna go Darius Robinson,
- 57:18Speaker 1: who is a I don't would you call him a
- 57:19Speaker 1: rising prospect. I guess like he's been there for a
- 57:21Speaker 1: long time. He's not at all. But like in our world,
- 57:24Speaker 1: all of a sudden, I'm being told he's a surefire
- 57:26Speaker 1: first round pick.
- 57:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the sky screens first round picked Peter.
- 57:29Speaker 2: He's just the total package. Is the defensive lineman, right,
- 57:31Speaker 2: He's not just an edge rusher, not just a defensive tackle.
- 57:34Speaker 2: He spends much of his early portions of his time
- 57:36Speaker 2: at Missouri, his defensive tackle transformed, his body dropped some weight,
- 57:40Speaker 2: and he became an edge player. He did not dominate
- 57:42Speaker 2: the combine in part because he's still got some defensive
- 57:45Speaker 2: tackle body on him, but had a great season this
- 57:48Speaker 2: past year for the Tigers. Part of that really really
- 57:50Speaker 2: good defense obviously had a total, dominant, totally dominant Pro
- 57:54Speaker 2: Day as well, which again people will say, what the
- 57:56Speaker 2: heck is a pro day worth? Well, every team is
- 57:59Speaker 2: either there or watching it on total and I'm just
- 58:01Speaker 2: telling you I've gotten feedback on that prote that it
- 58:03Speaker 2: was awesome. So Darius Robinson's tapes has first round pick,
- 58:07Speaker 2: and I think that other parts of the process have
- 58:09Speaker 2: also said first round pick. Love it for Arizona at
- 58:12Speaker 2: number twenty seven, and the Bills I think just maybe
- 58:15Speaker 2: want a lottery here, Peter right, I mean to get
- 58:18Speaker 2: either Brian Thomas or Mitchell make twenty eight. I don't
- 58:21Speaker 2: know though. Brian Thomas Jr. I have one spot. I
- 58:23Speaker 2: had one whole spot. I had him on the big board.
- 58:26Speaker 2: An Ady Mitchell with Brian Thomas Jr. Such a great
- 58:28Speaker 2: accelerator at the second level, had over seventeen yards to
- 58:31Speaker 2: catch last year, had seventeen receiving touchdowns that led FBS.
- 58:35Speaker 2: The guy's second gear is just so special. And of
- 58:37Speaker 2: course when you have I don't know about the strongest arm,
- 58:40Speaker 2: but certainly on the short list for strongest arms. Now
- 58:42Speaker 2: that Anthony Richardson is in the league and a couple
- 58:44Speaker 2: of other guys, that strong arm competition would be fascinating.
- 58:47Speaker 2: But with Josh Allen's arm strength, eighty Mitchell or Brian
- 58:50Speaker 2: Thomas Junior would work. Give me Brian Thomas Jr.
- 58:53Speaker 1: It would everyone be just gobsmacked if lat buck Conki
- 58:56Speaker 1: went before Brian Thomas. This is what I'm saying. Sometimes
- 58:58Speaker 1: it's just fit like.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but for the Rams, I wouldn't be at all right.
- 59:02Speaker 1: Rams.
- 59:03Speaker 2: I mean just in the same way that Pooka if
- 59:05Speaker 2: you placed him in Buffalo. And I'm not trying to
- 59:07Speaker 2: be disrespectful to a guy who had maybe the greatest
- 59:09Speaker 2: rookie receivers season ever, but the outcome is different than
- 59:12Speaker 2: the system he played in Los Angeles. It was just
- 59:15Speaker 2: That's what I love about what they do in LA
- 59:17Speaker 2: is that they're less worried about how the league views
- 59:20Speaker 2: a player and more worried about how they feel a.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Player and that is exactly the perfect transition to a
- 59:25Speaker 1: team that has a general manager from the Los Angeles
- 59:28Speaker 1: Rams organization who also took a running back and an
- 59:32Speaker 1: inside linebacker with two first round picks last year, the
- 59:34Speaker 1: Lions at twenty nine. I can go a million ways here.
- 59:40Speaker 1: I'm going to say the Lions take kool Aid McKinstry
- 59:44Speaker 1: twenty nine.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, Alabama corner has had a good free draft
- 59:48Speaker 2: process recently because he came back from that foot injury,
- 59:51Speaker 2: ran somewhere in the high four forest and everybody's got
- 59:53Speaker 2: a different stop watch a pro days Buttery Smooth though
- 59:56Speaker 2: Peter are really really good, like natural man coverage player
- 59:58Speaker 2: and twenty pass breakups over the past couple of years.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: So when the football is in his vicinity, it ain't
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: often caught, which is a good sign there. I mckinshew.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: I think kool Aid might actually have a better rookie
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: year than Terry and Arnold, like just because of the
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: experience and just getting him out there, and it feels
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: like he might even be more pro ready to take
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: on number one wide receivers. And I feel like the
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Lions like that defensive backfield.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: They could use another guy, Yeah, they could use one
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: more guy and the Ravens in that defensive backfield. Still,
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: I think you know a body short there, so I
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: will go with So I look at the big board.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: I just want to make sure that I'm not like
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: totally overlooking the players that I have ranked high on
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: my big board, and there are a couple of names
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: that are still pretty intriguing there. I can make a
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: pretty good case between Cooper Degene and Nate Wigans and
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: uncle Nate Wiggins from Clemson speedy cornerman ran a fourto
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: eight at the Combine, and you know, I just I
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: think there's a little bit of a fool's errand and
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: focusing too much on one play, one series for one game.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: But I've talked about this a bit with kuyper Is.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: There are two separate occasions this past year where Nate
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Wiggins was like out of the frame of the TV
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: and a running back was off to the races for
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: what would be an easy touchdown and Wiggins, with that
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: four too eight speed caught them on both occasions. One
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: time he forced to fumble against North Carolina that resulted
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: in the touchback. Another time he forced to fumble the
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: one yard line by Miami running back that was recovered
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: by Miami. But you know it became a jump ball
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: for being a touchdown or a touchback. So Nate Wiggins,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: I thought championship efforts showed up on a couple of
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: different occasions that speed really applied. So he goes to
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: the Ravens to pick thirty.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Okay, I dig that pick right now. There's a bunch
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: of names that are on the board. We got two
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: teams left all the.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Sorry they really get.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Oh and you're still talking.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: Ad Mitchell still out baby worthy, Ady Mitchell. Those are
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: the names, yep.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Yeah, And you know you could always just say, hey,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: give me the next offensive lineman Jordan Morgan. Of course
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: we said, we said. Zach Fraser still on the board
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: out of West Virginia. He's tough. You know what, I'm
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: gonna go, Zach Fraser, four time All State wrestling champion,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: inside offensive lineman, nothing flashy. Forty nine ers take Zach
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: Fraser over all those wide receiver prospects, just to cause
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: great madness amongst the forty nine faith. Well, that's just
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: what I'm doing. I'm going offensive line and tough, gritty
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: guy who they're going to just continue to protect Rock
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Berdy with.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: By the way, this team does what it wants in
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: the draft, right, Yeah, the four nine ers are not
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Beholden's to you know, mind mock drafts, your mock draft, right,
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: They're going to do what they want to do. And
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: if that means taking a you know, a center at
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: thirty one, that somethink might be available at forty one,
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: so be it. They don't care.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: What do you make as Zach Frasier because everyone loves
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: the kid, but no one has them in the first round.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I just said, screw it.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: I like him. Yeah, so he went is at the
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Big twelve pro Da. I mean he's the toughest player
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: in the draft. There's no two ways about that, right.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: Wrestling background, everybody knows the story by now. Final play
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: for him at West Virginia this past year breaks his leg,
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: game winning drive is going on. But of course in college,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: if you require medical assistance, you don't have a timeout.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: It's ten second runoff. So the guy hobbles to the
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: sideline to ensure that his team preserves ten seconds, which
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: is so tough and so impressive, but that injury obviously
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: impacted it. So he was at the combine, took part
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: in some portion of trideline. He tried it, and that
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: big twelve Pro day didn't have overwhelming numbers. So I
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: think that's the question is for a center only, probably
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: a center only. Is the athletic profile good enough for
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: every team to view this level? That's the question mark.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: I think if he ends up going forty one, it
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: would be because of the you know, in that range.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: It would be because the athletic stuff. But the question
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: you have to ask is is that a real reflection
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: of who he is athletically? I mean, the guy's coming
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: off of a major leggage, so long winded way of saying,
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: don't know for sure what the range is, but there
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: was a time where I would have fought twenty five,
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: twenty six, twenty seven was where the thing the range
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: started for Zach Frasier. That brings to the chief at
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: thirty two. Chiefs at thirty two, And I'm going to
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: make it real simple, Ady Mitchell, right, I mean the
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: need to wide receiver desperately, and Adie Mitchell probably I
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: think he goes earlier than this, Peter, but it is
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: that's a heckic there. I mean, I don't know they've
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: been so money in the draft recently that I'm going
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: to whoever they pick, I'm going to probably.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Just be totally to say plus, great pick, great value.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: You know, there is pressure in the sense that they
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: need some of these guys to perform, to continue to
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: fill holes that they you know, that are created when
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: they lose players in free agency. But we've also seen
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: like it's not they didn't need Like last year's first
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: round pick barely played defense.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: The defensive lineman out of what TCU out of Kansas State, Yeah,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: Kansas State and Uzoma.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: Yeah, ever I got on the field. Yeah, So it's like, yes,
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: you need these guys, you also kind of don't, right,
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: but I do think Aidie Mitchell or xavierly Get would
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: be fascinating there. The only thing I'll add at thirty two, Peter,
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: everybody talks about the possibility of teams trading up into
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: the back and back quarterbacks. I'll highlight this, how about
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: the potential for a wide receiver trade up? Right, You've
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: got Caroline at thirty three knowing it at thirty four,
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: bodd for wide receivers if they start to see that
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: run happening, or if one of those guys falls a
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: little bit wouldn't be. I don't have intel on either
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: of those teams. I am simply using logic and noting
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: that you really need a wide receiver and at some
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: point that drop off takes place. Do you say, hey,
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: take our third to go from thirty four to twenty
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: six or thirty three out of twenty five and get
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: that preferred wide receiver target. I don't remember. I'm trying to.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: I mean you both both of us are Encyclopedia's. Obviously
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: we've seen the trade back into the first for quarterback
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: a million times. I don't have a recollection of like, oh,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: thirty one or thirty two, like we need to trade
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: up to get a wide receiver. Do you have anyone
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: that you can remember that that was the guy?
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: Okay, let me say. I don't think I can recall
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: a wide receiver trade up, but I want to say,
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: and I'm going to try to pull this up on
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: the fly here through Google. Do I recall Tampa moving
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: up for a late round first late first round offensive
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: lineman a few years back? That maybe maybe a misrecollection there, No,
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: that sounds right.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: Think it was the guy from No, No, it was
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: because they took they took the big kid out of.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: What's his name, Logan Hall who this was a couple
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: of years ago.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: Yes, and then the first pick they took the other
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: kid who I sound like. I'm just like, was it
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: feat of they took with like the thirteenth pick, and
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: then that one.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: They took early. Yes. Let me just see if I
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: can get this correctly. This may be wrong.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Okay, if they have a second second, here, there we go.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: I had it backwards. It was Tampa they moved back.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: It was the year that Jacksonville moved up from thirty
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: three to twenty seven from Devin Lloyd, the wide receiver.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: I'm part of the linebacker, so got it. I don't
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: know why I said wide receiver there from Utah.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Yes, and Jacksonville took that was Taevon Walker their first
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: overall picks and they had Walker.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Yep, exactly, so they think, Okay, three first round picks
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: that year? Am I making that up?
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Gosh, Peter, for guys who take this from did it?
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: ETN was the year before which Trevor Lawrence.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: I'm sorry, they had back to back years with two
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: first round picks. It was Etn Lawrence and then they
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: had Walker and also Devin Lloyd. There so a lot
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: of capital there in Jacksonville to work with.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: All Right, I love what we just did. It was
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: one great yeah, real quick for the listener. Should we
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: should we? Just? Should?
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: We just rattle it off?
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Do you have your list in front of all the picks?
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: Or no? I do? I got it all right, So
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: go back if you.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Go first, Kayleb Williams.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: Kaler Williams so. The Chicago Bears number.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: One, number two, Washington Jaiden Daniels.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: Number three, The Patriots Drake May number four. The Giants
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: trade up and get JJ McCarthy number five. The Chargers
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: Dan Patt and take Marvin Harrison Junior number six. Arizona
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: trades back and still gets Roma doonza Ana number seven.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Things get spicy. The Saints trade ups take Malik Neighbors
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: number seven. Meeting Tennessee moves back to fourteen.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Number eight Atlanta, Rahim Morris's first pick as a new
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: head coach of the Falcons takes Dallas Turner defensive end
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: at Alabama.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: And number nine. The Chicago Bears Stan Patt and take
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Troy Futon Tanu A little bit of disruptive pick there
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: from the University of Washington.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Jets go with ten and stay where they are, and
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: they take the tight end brock Bowers out of Georgia.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: Vikings don't move up, so they take Leatu Latu, the
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: awesome ed rusher from UCLA.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Number twelve, the Denver Broncos, with the number one offensive
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: tackle prospect and a lot of teams boards sitting on
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: the board, they take Joe alt out of Notre Dame.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: Alrighty, and the Raiders at number thirteen take Michael Pennis Junior.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I love that, and that's where it.
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Tom Talco, you dog, he's the most unpredictable GM in
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: the f IS. It's yes, it's great. He's a hard
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: gear after years. That's a hat tip to him, by
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: the way it is.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: And they and say what you want about the Chargers
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: win losses. Over the last decade, their first round picks
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: have been absolutely money. Uh fourteen the Titans. They trade
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: back and they get Tally Tally fu Wanga. I was
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: told to make it an enng like like to Popago violo.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: So it's Tali fu Wanga offensive tackle Oregon State.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Okay, it is noted now Tali fu Wanga.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: So fifteen Indianapolis Colts quin Mitchell cornerback from Twedo.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: Great sixteen Seahawks, Olo Olu Fashanu, offensive tackle slash whatever
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: you need them to be, Penn State.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: And then you go right back to the well because
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: you're this is our flip our roll our odds to
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Evans reversal.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Here seventeen Jacksonville Jaguars. They select Arry and Arnold cornerback
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: out of Alabama.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: Eighteen. My personal apology tour begins. The Bengals take a
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: Marius JC. I hate them after previously taking imperious myths.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Jac Latham is the pick confirmed at number eighteen.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: Would you be shocked if that was the order of
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: the offensive tackles? If it went then I go through
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: it here? Yeah, Batanu okay, then Joe Alt, then Fuaga,
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: then Fashanu and then going with Latham all the way
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: down there as the fifth one take And would you
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: be shocked?
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: Or there are some massive, massive grades on Jac Latham
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: around the NFL, Peter, so I would be surprised. But
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: those massive grades may not necessarily be held by teams
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: that are in a position to make those first picks
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: of the offensive tackles.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Yeah, he could be the I heard he could be
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: the first one taken. I mean, so it could be anywhere,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: So we haven't fit. That's just the draft. That's how
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: it goes. Sorry, that's what it is.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Number nineteen Spice Tour.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: This is where screw it. Ladi McConkie. Come at US
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: wide receiver, Georgia.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Lad McConkie, love it, great player, four, three, nine and forty.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: The guy can absolutely fly. Graham Barton goes twenty to
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh Steelers meat potatoes film that center film in
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: at center. Right away we run.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Number twenty one Byron Murphy, defensive tackle out of Texas.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: That one feels just too good to ignore. No Christian
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: Milkins anymore. Our number twenty two Eagles on the clock.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: They take Amarius Mims, who again got through the grips
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: of the Bengals because they took jac.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Lath all right. Twenty three the Vikings. I don't gonna
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: say they're settling, but they get the fifth quarterback off
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: the board, bow Nick our sixth bo Nick's quarterback out
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: of Oregon.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Bo's got good tape, man. I get it. People are
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: gonna want the guy in the first five picks, and
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: I understand that I would too. But Bo's got some
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: good tape. Tyler got in twenty fourth overall of the Cowboys'
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: potential to play left tackle or right tackle, but they
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: got Terrence Steele there, so he settled in it left.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Twenty five Jared Verse to the Packers Florida State.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: Yeap, and then chop Robinson twenty six, So back to
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: back ed rushers. He goes to the Buccaneers, who still
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: have the need opposite of Joe Tryon Trianca.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Yes, let's go back to back to back defensive lineman.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Arizona Cardinals select Darius Robinson Adam.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I talk about some good tape right there. All right,
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: So twenty eight Buffalo Bills take Brian Thomas, junior wide
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: receiver from LSU to pair with Josh Allen.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: If he falls to twenty eight, you say that's crazy.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: It happens, guys, twenty does happen?
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: The Lions take kool Aid mckinstrey defensive back out of.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: Alabama, number thirty. So again we were in running we
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: are in cornerback run territory. Nate Wiggans goes from Clemson
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: to the Baltimore Ravens, who need offensive line and cornerback.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: Helpt and thirty one, I said, screw it. The forty
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: nine ers take a center coming off a broken leg.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Zach Frasier at O West Virginia, Yep.
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: Can never. It's never toally to look ahead, especially when
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: you have an investment that could be amongst the highest
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: paid players in the league next year. In brock Purty.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: And then thirty two, the Chiefs wrap things up with
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: Ady Mitchell. Personal apologies for me, Peter go to Cooper Degen,
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: the highest rated player on my board that did not
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: go in the first round.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: And personal apology to me is to Jordan Morgan who
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: put the hat on and everything and still did not
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: go in our first round. Guys, that is our first
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: round fields ninety minutes of just just juice. I loved it, dude,
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: you are so great at what you do. I'm wishing
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: you need so much luck. Over the next ten days,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: you're gonna have a blast, and I'll be watching obviously,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: and maybe we're sets are sort of near each other.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: We can give a little fifth pound, like you know.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: I love I would love to do it. Yeah, No,
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: I love how much I love how much the draft
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: means to you, and I admire the heck out of
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: your process and all that you do. And I'm glad
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: that Good Morning Football will be on the air during
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: the draft because fans strongly deserve your and the entire
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: panels insight for that. That great I mean to me,
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: the you know, the second best event on the entire
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: NFL calendar, behind only the super Bowl, which may sound sacrilegious.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: I might go, I might, I might go.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Draft combine then super Bowl.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: That's not much. You love it, that's dedication to it.
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: Love it great, Field, Yates, You're the man. Thank you
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: so much.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: Thank you, Peter.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: So there you go, guys. Hopefully you are on a
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: commute or you're on a run or a jog, or
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: you broke it up with the two spots like that
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: is just content. That is just juice. And Field is
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: great at what he does. You could watch him on
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: ABC's coverage the first two nights and then ESPN's coverage
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: on day three. I encourage you to do so, flip around.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: I'll be over on NFL network. But there's so much
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: good draft coverage. Field is one of the greats, and
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: he's really coming into his own. I love when we
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: do that. I mean, I'll be honest, I didn't have
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: Michael Pennox in my first round of my mock draft.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: He's got him going thirteenth over all of the Raiders.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: That's the beauty of this thing. The two of us
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: are as plugged in as anybody, and that's how different
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: it can be. I'm gonna do one more of these,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: I think this week we're working on. It might be
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: with Daniel Jeremiah, it might be with somebody else, but
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I feel like this is what you guys want from
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: what I'm hearing from all the feedback on the podcast.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: You liked these last year, We'll keep on doing them
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: this year up until draft. It's a simulation, it's an exercise,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: but it also informs you on a lot of these guys.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: I got about fifty nuggets from players that I didn't
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: know just listening to Field Talk. The Roma Dunesday stuff
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: was terrific. And of course you talk about Quinny on
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: Mitchell being described as a genius. I had not heard that.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: I love that. I will add that to my repertoire
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: and I will consider that as a good info to
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: share moving forward. But there you go. More draft stuff
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: and on behalf of Aaron Wang Kaufman who's been just
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: fantastic and flexible around my schedule. And Chason English and
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: everybody at the NFL network, and in this case, I
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: guess ESPN. We're all hands on board here. The NFL
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Draft is one of my favorite events, and I want
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: to make sure you guys are as well informed as
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: possible until next time. This is the Season Peter schreg
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: NFL and partnership with iHeartRadio. For more podcasts from iHeartRadio,
