- 0:03What's going on, everybody? That's what you need to do.
- 0:08Well, boy, the legend of the host of the legend of the podcast,
- 0:13the Deconstructing Topic Podcast.
- 0:15And what's going on today? Today we got fun one.
- 0:20For those of my beautiful people that remember, long time ago,
- 0:26channel ABC network, work.
- 0:29Here in New York City was Channel 7. I had a Friday night lineup of comedy shows,
- 0:35funny family comedy shows.
- 0:37And the lineup was very legendary because it was called the TGIF.
- 0:42Yes, TGIF lineup, Family Matters, Full House. We're going to be talking a little bit of it all.
- 0:47And we're going to get a little tidbit. But once again, hit that like,
- 0:51comment, and feel free to share.
- 0:52I'm on Tegu's TV. I'm on YouTube. I'm all over the place. Your boy, the legendary.
- 0:59Oh yeah, we're going to have a good one TGIF, it is not Friday as I'm recording
- 1:04this And yes, a lot of people And I'm going to say this For those people who
- 1:09remember these shows as the Full House,
- 1:12Family Matters Do you remember Family Matters, Urku? Did I do that?
- 1:17My goodness Wow TGIF Friday,
- 1:21Shows Actually, TGIF I'm going
- 1:24to give you a little something that's going to blow your mind
- 1:27tgif in that concept
- 1:31of these tv shows actually stood for thank goodness is funny yes people was
- 1:37like what i thought it was thank god it's friday you could say it is but it
- 1:42was more knock on board on play with thank god it's friday but it's actually
- 1:45thank goodness is funny and i believe that these commercials in the beginning of the late 80s,
- 1:50where it says, thank goodness, it's funny.
- 1:54Because it is something that I grew up in growing up here in the United States.
- 1:58It's one of those things as a kid. I always look forward for Friday. Yeah, it's Friday.
- 2:03And in a time where they just say for the young folks out there,
- 2:08for those people who might not have, you know, cable was not a thing in people's
- 2:12household. We have to put the little antenna, you know, the team antenna, whatever it is.
- 2:17And then Fridays was always that thing as a young kid. You couldn't wait until Fridays.
- 2:22You just want to just go to sleep late, then wake up early to watch the Saturday
- 2:26cartoons. But what better way to start?
- 2:30But then the TGIF TV lineup of ABC, ABC Network, and what a lineup.
- 2:39And me growing up once again in the United States in the late 80s.
- 2:44I couldn't look forward for these uh shows especially
- 2:48you know channel seven in my part i don't know
- 2:51where if you're listening to this i'm not sure what abc or what channel it was
- 2:55in your uh town city or whatever it is but those tgif friday let's go my goodness
- 3:02and let's start the show shall we let's get it Yes, yes, yes.
- 3:10Oh, I heard it so, guys, and now.
- 3:13I love, I love, I love, I love, I love, I love the plate on the story
- 3:19but we make it happen but perfect
- 3:22strangers now perfect strangers was the uh show
- 3:25of these two perfect strangers from shi town
- 3:28chicago it was a good show we had a couple
- 3:30of people there you know doing that thing thing or whatever
- 3:34it is but yeah i do remember one of them name is bulky which is the squirt quirky
- 3:39european i believe individual so it was these two men who decided to live together
- 3:45and they were strangers whatever it is it was a good show and it was the first show in the lineup,
- 3:53That I remember in the TGF Friday. I really enjoyed Perfect Strangers.
- 3:57Followed by. So now Perfect Stranger would be the 8 o'clock.
- 4:01Then followed by Full House.
- 4:04Full House. You already know that Full House started bobsagging.
- 4:07And a lot of folks out there. You already know.
- 4:09You got the. What's his name? Is it Joey?
- 4:12Cut it out. I think that's it. You guys remember. You know. Cut it out. The uncle. You know.
- 4:17You know. Full House. It was that show because it was a single father.
- 4:22You know what I mean? I raised him as daughters.
- 4:24And then you have the uncle, the cool uncle, the other cool uncle, kind of funny guy.
- 4:30You know, you had the daughters and so on. And then you had the twins where
- 4:33we playing the character one, the Olsen twins.
- 4:37Full House was a beautiful show. It was a cool show. It was learning.
- 4:40You know, sometimes as a young kid, you know, watching those shows,
- 4:45you'd be like, oh, my goodness.
- 4:46And Full House was one of those shows in the second that you would be like, oh, this is so cool.
- 4:52Then followed by Mr. Belvedere. Now I'm looking at a list of when and where these things came out.
- 4:58Mr. Belvedere was interesting because Mr. Belvedere was a butler.
- 5:02I mean, he was from England, I believe. And it was not bad, but,
- 5:05you know, the character was a funny dude, Mr.
- 5:10Belvedere. You know, I think at this point I'm like, okay.
- 5:13But in the late 80s, once again, you got Full House.
- 5:16And then for those people out there
- 5:19who remember now keep in mind it's
- 5:22this for those people out there who remember family
- 5:26matters oh erku oh my goodness erku is erku the legendary erku played by jaleel
- 5:33white i believe his name is and it was an interesting show you know my understanding
- 5:38when it comes to family matters you know because i was doing a little bit of kind of search,
- 5:44you know, research on these kind of, you know, these little wonderful,
- 5:48beautiful episodes, that's why you got to hit that like, comment, and feel free to share.
- 5:53My name is David, and I'm your boy, your legendary.
- 5:56But Family Matters, my understanding is that the show became the Urkel show
- 6:02for those people out there who know the character Urkel.
- 6:05He stands because he's this quirky, nerdy kid, you know, with the pants all
- 6:10the way up to his belly button and so on.
- 6:13So it's an interesting show because my understanding is that the show was not about him.
- 6:18It was supposed to be about, you know, the cop car. I believe that's his name.
- 6:21You know, the wife and the family could just be an extra neighbor, whatever.
- 6:26But then the whole show kind of shifted to him. And the rest is history.
- 6:30Family Matters was one of those shows that I really, really, really enjoyed.
- 6:35Part of it because you have Full House and you have Family Matters.
- 6:37And then, you know, obviously Perfect Strangers. Now, there's one that just said just the 10 of us.
- 6:43And I'm trying to remember as well. So even though I'm trying to remember,
- 6:48you know, because a lot of these shows, I can top of my head to be like,
- 6:53oh, man, I kind of forgot the name.
- 6:54Or maybe I do remember the name. I just do remember the premise.
- 6:58So just the 10 of us is another one.
- 7:01It's interesting because also the famous, the famous TV show.
- 7:07I can ask a new show or whatever report in 2020 was on Friday.
- 7:11And guess where I got a lot of my smartness from? 2020.
- 7:152020 had that interesting thing for those people out there. You already know
- 7:19that 2020 meets perfect vision.
- 7:22So 2020 was kind of part of the block, even though it was not comedy.
- 7:25It was the news kind of, you know, reports and so on.
- 7:29So 2020 was a very legendary show for me as well. So once again,
- 7:34you know, these shows as time and we're talking about early 90s,
- 7:38there was a one that it was called Going Places. I might not remember.
- 7:42Baby Talk was one that I do recall.
- 7:45And it was OK. That was the one with a baby talking baby. And I believe Tony
- 7:50Johnson did the voice of the baby.
- 7:52But the show didn't last that long. So I'm kind of a little interesting step
- 7:57by step. because then at this time, I believe Full House was moved to a Tuesday,
- 8:03you know, because Full House became ABC's number one show, if I'm not mistaken.
- 8:07So it was put in like kind of in a Tuesday or Wednesday and then Step by Step came in.
- 8:12Step by Step is like stepsisters, brothers, whatever, step family.
- 8:16So it's one of those things, it's kind of like a, you can say a little modern
- 8:20version of Brady Bunch perhaps, perhaps.
- 8:23But that's one of those things that I kind of enjoy that show.
- 8:26You have Kent Wilder Was another one But the one that was kind of odd And I
- 8:32kind of enjoyed it But did not last long Was Dinosaurs So Dinosaurs.
- 8:38It's basically, excuse me, a show of dinosaurs. You know, it was kind of puppets or whatever it is.
- 8:44And they had this little baby, you know, who's your mama? Who's your baby?
- 8:47Something like that. For those people who remember out there, dinosaurs.
- 8:51And I always kind of remember, you know, because the show didn't last long.
- 8:55And, you know, it was a show that was kind of, how can I say it to you?
- 9:01You know, it was a family show, but it was kind of like hard to like,
- 9:05okay, what can we do next?
- 9:06You know what I mean? a bunch of people dressed in dinosaur costumes,
- 9:10you know, kind of like the Flintstones in a sense, but just you got to watch
- 9:14the show. It's kind of interesting.
- 9:15If you ever see dinosaurs, put it in Dinosaurs TV show.
- 9:19And I always kind of remember the last episode because it was a little bit interesting
- 9:22because, you know, it is dinosaurs, but, you know, the show,
- 9:26whatever, you know, with the storyline of a family.
- 9:29But the end of the show, it looks like the father's looking out the
- 9:32window and they see the meter and basically they
- 9:35just say well i guess this is the end you know what i
- 9:38mean so that's an interesting one as well
- 9:41as we continue continue continue with the tgif friday block for those out there
- 9:48boy meets what boy beats what was another classic show you know kids cool school
- 9:53kids whatever it is you know i know and i think that they were made one with
- 9:58Girl Meets Were, I think,
- 9:59recently with, you know, with the kids or something to that effect.
- 10:04Sister, Sister, obviously, was another one. Hanging with Mr.
- 10:07Cooper. I enjoy hanging with Mr. Cooper.
- 10:10That's the one with the basketball guy. I think he was a basketball player,
- 10:12and then he decided to be a, I kind of forget.
- 10:16Sometimes I forget the premises of some of these shows, and people be like,
- 10:19well, I thought he was doing research on it.
- 10:22You know, I love to do research, but at the same time, I love to kind of just
- 10:25go deep to my memory bank and say, wow, I remember, I do remember hanging with Mr. Cooper.
- 10:30I believe I went to another different network after that.
- 10:34And, you know, as you get older, once again, step by step, hanging with Mr.
- 10:38Cooper, we're talking about in the mid-90s.
- 10:41By the time that, let's say, in the late 90s to at least 96,
- 10:4497 is when I'm a teenager. Then I also was a homeless teen.
- 10:49You know, so I didn't watch that much. I know that Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a big show.
- 10:55Clueless, based on the movie. You know, for those girls out there,
- 10:59you know, that remember Clueless, basically.
- 11:01You know, girls that are clueless, but funny. boy meets world
- 11:04once again but you know boy meets where it's it's going
- 11:06a little bit different because now the kids are becoming looking more
- 11:09little like young adults than just teens
- 11:12so they kind of change the time of that step by step i know step by steps last
- 11:19a while sabrina the teenage witch teenager i don't know and boy it's funny because
- 11:27boy meets world and i believe that Supreme of the Teenage Witch.
- 11:30As time passed because these shows being
- 11:33on TV for like two or three years again this is a time where these teenagers
- 11:37are turning to young adults then the TV shows start to change the theme of kind
- 11:43of like from teenage issues to kind of like young adult issues so definitely
- 11:48kind of interested but for me that's what I remember the most.
- 11:53They had two guys, a girl, and a pizza place by this time I'm You know,
- 11:57I'm done. The Hugelys, that's another show, you know, the old Hugely.
- 12:01But once again, at this time, it's like TGF Friday for me. It's like whatever.
- 12:06But I do remember Family Matters, again, Full House. And for those people out
- 12:10there who grew up in the 90s, late 80s, 90s. Yes, yes.
- 12:16Indeed, ABC looking forward for those Friday nights, 10, 11, 12 years old.
- 12:21Oh, my goodness. And then sometimes, you know, I have my mother or somebody
- 12:26would give me like $5 and I'll rack up $5 on candies,
- 12:31I was next to, I was living next to where there was three bodegas where I was living.
- 12:35Three, next three bodegas next to each other. And they all specialize on something.
- 12:40Now, the one that was what I would call, or what we call the middle,
- 12:44was the candy store. Was the one that had all the candies.
- 12:47It was smaller of the other two, but they just basically had a lot of candies.
- 12:52And that's when I rack up the now ladies, the Jolly Ranchers, the Chico's thing.
- 12:58Oh, the sunflower seeds. I mean, my table, this is what I would do.
- 13:04Friday night, my table, I had this table, was piled up with candies, drunk sugar.
- 13:12Jesus Christ, I don't know why I did that, but I did that. That was me on a Friday night.
- 13:17And then sometimes I got to sleep at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning.
- 13:20Keep in mind, we're talking about in a time that there was no internet,
- 13:24no nothing, just straight up TV.
- 13:25But TV was good. But TV was, how can I say to you? It was very informative.
- 13:31You learn something, even with these shows.
- 13:332020, you know, I geeked for 2020.
- 13:37Investigated, you know, journalism. That's the name I'm looking for.
- 13:40And then, you know, once again, it started changing.
- 13:43Obviously, TGIF was not the same after the 2000s. Because, you know,
- 13:482000, it just, once again, cable became a thing.
- 13:51Friday, more like, because keep in mind, this block of ABC shows that were competing.
- 13:57Again, there were other shows which I would love to talk about.
- 14:00CBS and NBC was trying to compete as well, trying to get into the fight.
- 14:05Because look, in a time back then, again, TV was more instrumental.
- 14:11And it was something where at least TV and TV shows put family together.
- 14:17That's why they had these family shows.
- 14:20So even me, hey, listen, I watched it with a couple of my, you know,
- 14:23my sister, my brother at one time, but it was more for the most part because I'm the youngest.
- 14:28It was me alone watching these shows, racking up on all those,
- 14:32racking up on those candies. Oh, let's go.
- 14:36Sorry about that. I had to take a little bit of water here as I'm doing this beautiful podcast.
- 14:40But indeed, if you out there, what was your favorite TV show of this ABC TGI
- 14:46Friday lineup? I don't know which one I would pick.
- 14:51I would say that. How can I say to you?
- 14:55Full House Family Matters is probably the two most that I remember.
- 14:59Obviously, 2020, even though it's not a comedy show, but Full House and Family
- 15:03Matters and Perfect Strangers, the ones that kind of I gravitated to.
- 15:08Dinosaurs, because of how unique it was. I always remember Dinosaurs because
- 15:13it was definitely a unique show. So hanging with Mr.
- 15:16Cooper and Sister Sisters was kind of me as I can growing up.
- 15:21I'm trying my best to watch. But, you know, my fighters was a little bit different as a teenager.
- 15:24But, hey, listen, make a comment. Hit me up if you did not know also that TGIF
- 15:30on that lineup actually stand for.
- 15:34Thank goodness is funny.
- 15:36Ooh, let's get it. You already know. Holla at your boy. It's the legendary Deconstructing Topic Podcast.
- 15:43And I'm out once again.
- 15:45Make it happen enjoy all the good stuff and go back to the youtube and watch
- 15:50all these shows and give you that nostalgia feeling like hey my goodness my
- 15:54fridays was so cool friday was definitely cool but anyways i'm out of here my
- 15:59folks take care and i'm out peace i'm out.
