- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: Hi Lucas! I'm Luna. I'm ready for today's episode. What are we learning? Lucas: Today, we're going to a park. We'll learn three things you can see there: a tree, a bench, and a flower. Luna: Oh, I love parks! Okay, let's start. Lucas: First up: de boom. That means 'the tree.' Say it with me: de boom. Luna: De boom. Lucas: Good! Now, de bank. That's 'the bench.' De bank. Luna: De bank. Lucas: And de bloem. 'The flower.' De bloem. Luna: De bloem. So all three are de-words? De boom, de bank, de bloem. Lucas: Exactly. They're all common gender, so they use 'de.' Now let's put them in a sentence. 'I see a tree' is 'Ik zie een boom.' Luna: Ik zie een boom. Lucas: Perfect. 'I see a bench' is 'Ik zie een bank.' Luna: Ik zie een bank. Lucas: And 'I see a flower' is 'Ik zie een bloem.' Luna: Ik zie een bloem. That's easy! Lucas: Now let's describe them. 'The flower is beautiful' is 'De bloem is mooi.' Luna: De bloem is mooi. Lucas: You got it. What about 'The tree is big'? Luna: Umm... De boom is groot? Lucas: Yes! De boom is groot. And 'the bench is old'? Luna: De bank is oud. Lucas: Fantastic. Now let's go back to our first episode. Remember when we learned colors? How would you say 'the red flower'? Luna: De rode bloem? With an -e? Lucas: Right! Because 'de' words get an -e on the adjective when it comes before the noun. So 'de rode bloem.' Luna: De rode bloem. That's pretty. Lucas: Let's practice a mini dialogue. Imagine we're in a park. I say: 'Kijk, een boom!' Luna: Ja, ik zie een boom. Lucas: En een bank? Luna: Ja, ik zie een bank. En een bloem! De bloem is mooi. Lucas: Mooi, inderdaad. Now let's review. Can you say all three words again? Luna: De boom, de bank, de bloem. Lucas: Excellent. And the sentences: 'I see a tree'? Luna: Ik zie een boom. Lucas: 'The flower is beautiful'?
