- 0:05Speaker 1: I didn't hear back on normally the show with normal,
- 0:08Speaker 1: which takes for when the news gets weird.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I am Mary Catherine Haham, and I'm Carol Markowitz. Mary Catherine.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Is Halloween your favorite holiday?
- 0:15Speaker 3: It's not my favorite holiday, but it's second to Christmas.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Second to Christmas? That makes sense.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like very close.
- 0:21Speaker 2: You really bring it.
- 0:22Speaker 3: I try.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I mean over the years, your costume is just incredible.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I didn't know who you were this last one, but
- 0:29Speaker 2: a lot of people were very impressed with you after
- 0:32Speaker 2: I posted the picture of us together on my Instagram.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Well, I'm so glad, Yes we were. For those who
- 0:37Speaker 1: didn't see the picture, we'll put it on our socials.
- 0:40Speaker 1: But we were two of the characters from The Great
- 0:42Speaker 1: British Baking Show, So Prue and Noel my husband and I.
- 0:46Speaker 1: The thing is, I inexplicably found a man who is
- 0:51Speaker 1: very into the same things I'm into. So that was
- 0:53Speaker 1: like one of the reasons we got together is when
- 0:55Speaker 1: we first started dating, I was like, wait, you want
- 0:57Speaker 1: to put together a costume because I want to put
- 1:00Speaker 1: together Let's do it together.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 1: So, mister giant shoulders in the gym all the time
- 1:05Speaker 1: is like, yes, I will nitpicked your costume for accuracy.
- 1:09Speaker 3: It's a cuss play.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Dude, he's so awesome. I mean, I have only met
- 1:14Speaker 2: your husband a few times, but I just every time
- 1:17Speaker 2: he's around, he is so much fun and you guys
- 1:21Speaker 2: are just fantastic together.
- 1:22Speaker 1: He's a good dude. He's a good dude. So yeah,
- 1:24Speaker 1: well we pulled it off. The kids kind of freelanced
- 1:26Speaker 1: this year, so I let them do their own thing.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And my four year old, I don't know if I mentioned,
- 1:30Speaker 1: was poop Yep.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:31Speaker 3: She was poop yep.
- 1:33Speaker 2: She picked it and she wanted it, and you guys
- 1:36Speaker 2: are awesome.
- 1:37Speaker 3: We made it happen. So anyway, all right.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Well, Halloween is over. I felt like, even though it
- 1:43Speaker 2: was only Friday, went on through the weekend. I feel
- 1:46Speaker 2: like everybody was just drunk and high on chocolate. I
- 1:49Speaker 2: picked up all the wrappers around my house on Saturday
- 1:52Speaker 2: and then did it all again on Sunday. I don't
- 1:54Speaker 2: know where they blew in from, but.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it's well.
- 1:58Speaker 1: My husband is also he's like a sweetz aholic. We
- 2:01Speaker 1: don't really keep stuff in the house in general, so
- 2:04Speaker 1: when Halloween hits, like you got he handed out the
- 2:06Speaker 1: candy a couple of years in a row, and I
- 2:08Speaker 1: would come back to the house and be like, what's
- 2:09Speaker 1: wrong with you?
- 2:10Speaker 3: And he had just oh deed.
- 2:12Speaker 2: And for the child, one for me, handful for the kids.
- 2:16Speaker 3: We don't leave them along with it.
- 2:18Speaker 2: So well, y well, we're on to the next holiday,
- 2:23Speaker 2: which of course is election day.
- 2:26Speaker 3: That's right.
- 2:27Speaker 2: We are recording it the day before election day. This
- 2:29Speaker 2: will be released on election Day across the country. And
- 2:33Speaker 2: it's not looking very good.
- 2:34Speaker 3: It's not.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But I will say, and I said this on the show,
- 2:37Speaker 2: I think last episode or two episodes ago, if it's
- 2:39Speaker 2: even close, I think Republicans should be happy about that.
- 2:43Speaker 2: It is tough times out there for Republicans in these
- 2:47Speaker 2: particular races. Two are in deep blue New Jersey and
- 2:51Speaker 2: New York City, very deep blue. One is in a
- 2:54Speaker 2: purply angry state that's mad about the shutdown right now,
- 2:58Speaker 2: which is of course home state of Virginia. These are
- 3:01Speaker 2: not going to be easy for Republicans.
- 3:05Speaker 1: No, and I'm getting wildly conflicting messages about early voting
- 3:11Speaker 1: and turnout that I'm trying to reconcile with each other. Look,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I will say that even though it is an uphill
- 3:16Speaker 1: battle in Virginia. Republicans are making a good showing. Yeah,
- 3:20Speaker 1: certainly a respectable showing in the early voting totals compared
- 3:24Speaker 1: to other years. Youngkin's great contribution to the Virginia GOP.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Among many other things, He's been a very good governor,
- 3:31Speaker 1: but is to have increased the party's capabilities when it
- 3:35Speaker 1: comes to getting people out to vote when it comes
- 3:37Speaker 1: to running up totals in rural areas, which had not
- 3:41Speaker 1: been done well previous to that, particularly trying to answer
- 3:45Speaker 1: the urban surges during the Obama years. So I do
- 3:48Speaker 1: think I saw somebody say that in all the polling
- 3:51Speaker 1: that shows, obviously we'd like the AG race to turn
- 3:55Speaker 1: out a Republican win, just to keep the guy who
- 3:57Speaker 1: wants me and my children dead off of out public office, who,
- 4:02Speaker 1: by the way, was on stage at the Obama rally.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Right Obama was like, we should be able to disagree
- 4:08Speaker 1: without disrespecting each other, and then there's mister kill everybody.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Anyway, we'd like that to be a win.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I saw a stat that was encouraging that is, like,
- 4:16Speaker 1: if span Berger, who is the top of the ticket,
- 4:19Speaker 1: doesn't win by eleven plus, the AG race goes Republican,
- 4:22Speaker 1: she can't drag him across the line.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So if we could keep it.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Dight, keep it dight? Is she pulling eleven plus? I
- 4:29Speaker 2: feel like everything I've seen has her seven or eight.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's more like kissing double digits, but not
- 4:35Speaker 1: quite there.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Okay, all right, Virginia, you know what to do New
- 4:40Speaker 2: York City. I just have so many friends who are
- 4:43Speaker 2: so hopeful that Cuomo was going to pull it out,
- 4:45Speaker 2: And I mean maybe every time, you know, I can't
- 4:49Speaker 2: like you. I'm parsing these early vote totals, like, oh, look,
- 4:52Speaker 2: the Hasidic Jewish communities have really come out in the
- 4:55Speaker 2: early voting days. But like, I don't know that city's
- 5:00Speaker 2: super blue. I think a lot of people walk into
- 5:03Speaker 2: the booth and vote either Republican or Democrat. And Cuomo
- 5:05Speaker 2: is running on the third party line, Like we have
- 5:07Speaker 2: to like he's also my mom, and be like, you
- 5:10Speaker 2: can't go in and vote Republican. You have to vote.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You have to find Andrew Como on his weird third
- 5:15Speaker 2: party line.
- 5:15Speaker 3: That's part of it.
- 5:16Speaker 1: His ballot placement is very bad. He's stuck in the
- 5:19Speaker 1: middle of a second row. Yeah, I should also note
- 5:22Speaker 1: that for Republicans, and this is something that again Youngkin
- 5:25Speaker 1: has worked on correcting for but four Republicans because of
- 5:29Speaker 1: the realignment of the kind of voters Republicans get.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Now, Republicans have.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Lower propensity voters, which means they are less likely to
- 5:38Speaker 1: come out in an off year election. The suburban moms
- 5:41Speaker 1: are the put it on your calendar, do all the
- 5:43Speaker 1: things for make sure that we show up every single
- 5:46Speaker 1: time there's a vote.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Young male new voters.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Not as likely to be showing up every time. So
- 5:54Speaker 1: that is a sort of an evolution in the party
- 5:58Speaker 1: that does cause problem. And these off your elections if
- 6:01Speaker 1: you're not working really hard to get people out, and
- 6:04Speaker 1: credit to Yankin and Scott Pressler and others who.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Do the hard work on the ground to make that happen.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Absolutely Republicans need to like put a voting booth in
- 6:12Speaker 2: the toilet paper aisle where you buy like the single
- 6:15Speaker 2: pack of toilet paper that single men go for, like
- 6:20Speaker 2: because again suburban moms ordering it on Amazon, getting like
- 6:24Speaker 2: a four month pack, you.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Know, and then like the single heat up meals like
- 6:28Speaker 1: those are that's this is ours, this is our area.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I should note also just for y'all's education. That California
- 6:35Speaker 1: is of course considering Proposition fifty. That's their their their
- 6:40Speaker 1: constitutional amendment to change the way that they do redistricting
- 6:42Speaker 1: so that they can have more democratic seats. Voters in
- 6:46Speaker 1: Texas will decide whether to amend the constitution to say
- 6:48Speaker 1: that persons who are not citizens of the United States
- 6:50Speaker 1: cannot vote in Texas. I'm sure the Libs find this
- 6:53Speaker 1: very controversial. In Maine, they're doing some voting changes. There's
- 6:56Speaker 1: a gun law question on Maine's ballot. Parental rights in Texas,
- 7:00Speaker 1: an amendment that would affirm that parents are the primary
- 7:03Speaker 1: decision makers for their children and a couple, like environmental
- 7:06Speaker 1: things other places, but those are the Nothing is dominating
- 7:10Speaker 1: the ballot measures this year. There's no big theme like
- 7:12Speaker 1: there's in the past. It's been abortion related stuff, right
- 7:15Speaker 1: this year, not a big theme.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I think it's just do hate Donald Trump. If so,
- 7:20Speaker 2: come vote for the Democrats. That's that's where they are
- 7:23Speaker 2: right now, which is not a bad place to be
- 7:25Speaker 2: because a lot of these people do hate Donald Trump
- 7:28Speaker 2: and want to send a message. So there will be
- 7:30Speaker 2: that message. I think I mentioned in a previous episode
- 7:33Speaker 2: that Miami is having an election and a I don't
- 7:37Speaker 2: want to call her far left because it does dilute
- 7:39Speaker 2: the term because she's not an AOC, she's not his
- 7:41Speaker 2: arm I'm Donnie. But for Florida, she's pretty left. Is
- 7:46Speaker 2: leading in the polls, and there's like a mayoral race.
- 7:49Speaker 2: It's a mayoral race. It's different than New York City
- 7:51Speaker 2: because Miami has like six mayors and it's not just
- 7:55Speaker 2: you know, she's going to run like three neighborhoods basically
- 7:58Speaker 2: if she wins, but it's still important. But there's like
- 8:00Speaker 2: ten candidates running and one of them is endorsed by
- 8:04Speaker 2: Ron DeSantis. It looks like this woman, Eileen versus I
- 8:09Speaker 2: believe his name is Gonzales are going to be in
- 8:13Speaker 2: a runoff together. And then at that point it's also
- 8:16Speaker 2: non part is an election. I should know. They're not
- 8:18Speaker 2: running on party lines, so it's different. But again, if
- 8:22Speaker 2: a liberal or a leftist or whatever somewhere between wins
- 8:26Speaker 2: mayor of Miami, that does kind of slow down Republican
- 8:29Speaker 2: momentum going into the midterms. It's a small, nothing race,
- 8:33Speaker 2: but it sends a message that the Democrats, you know,
- 8:37Speaker 2: who have been massively unpopular in the last year. Maybe
- 8:41Speaker 2: are mounting a little bit of a comeback.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Yeah, we shall see.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I'm interested in what do you think of Obama showing
- 8:47Speaker 1: up at the end in New Jersey?
- 8:49Speaker 3: So funny he went to New Jersey too, right?
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah he did? Yeah, you know, like you said, his
- 8:54Speaker 2: whole like we have to be better, do each other thing.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Like I see him as the most divisive president. He
- 9:00Speaker 2: is the one who I feel like split us apart
- 9:02Speaker 2: in a way that we haven't been able to recover from.
- 9:05Speaker 2: It wasn't George W. Bush. It was not George W.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Bush who did that. It was Barack Obama. I don't know.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I guess it means that they think it's closer. But
- 9:12Speaker 2: if it's not close, is he not going to come?
- 9:14Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:16Speaker 1: The thing about him is it's such a myth that
- 9:19Speaker 1: he has coattails, right he is. He is an important
- 9:23Speaker 1: figure and then a party, but he has never really
- 9:25Speaker 1: brought people across the line in the way that they
- 9:28Speaker 1: sort of pretend he does when they're like we're bringing
- 9:31Speaker 1: in the big guns and it's like okay.
- 9:32Speaker 3: But while he was in office, you guys.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Lost thousands lots of things, thousands.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Of seats where he was speaking, and then I think
- 9:41Speaker 1: for me, you know, I've always frequently seen through Obama's
- 9:46Speaker 1: rhetoric about how we should all.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Be good to each other.
- 9:48Speaker 1: But standing on the stage and giving that speel the
- 9:52Speaker 1: same stage that the Ages nominee who wants to shoot
- 9:56Speaker 1: the Speaker of the House and Replican Speaker of the
- 9:58Speaker 1: House in Virginia.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Okay, enough enough, sir. Yeah, I like that. It means
- 10:05Speaker 3: that they are nervous.
- 10:06Speaker 1: It's closer, right, Yeah, It's closer than they want it
- 10:09Speaker 1: to be, which again.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Would be huge. All of these races matter obviously for
- 10:15Speaker 2: the people living in those places, but on a national level,
- 10:18Speaker 2: what these races matter for really is to see where
- 10:23Speaker 2: the midterms are headed. And I think they'll give us
- 10:26Speaker 2: a little bit of a preview. Again, it's probably going
- 10:28Speaker 2: to be a Democratic sweep, but it has to be
- 10:31Speaker 2: a democratic sweep. If it's not a Democratic sweep, Democrats
- 10:34Speaker 2: in a world of hurt going into the midterms. Again,
- 10:37Speaker 2: if it's close, that that's very good for Republicans.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Can I also say too, by the way, when some
- 10:42Speaker 1: seiarus has been doing the work on the ground, she's
- 10:44Speaker 1: been trying to take advantage of all these insane Northern
- 10:47Speaker 1: Virginia school board policies which are just awful. There's tons
- 10:49Speaker 1: of controversies going on. Are Soros funded prosecutor in my
- 10:55Speaker 1: county that just lets people out willy nilly all of
- 10:57Speaker 1: that stuff?
- 10:58Speaker 2: Didn't do that I would.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I would like to say. I read a New Yorker
- 11:02Speaker 1: piece that was like, Abigail Spenberger thinks that Democrats need
- 11:05Speaker 1: to listen more, and it's like, Okay, again, she's posing
- 11:10Speaker 1: as the normy savior, and I think that if she wins,
- 11:16Speaker 1: it's not by virtue of being normy, unless by being
- 11:19Speaker 1: normy you just mean she's not mom Dannie.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Like that's gonna be a low bar that a lot
- 11:25Speaker 2: of Democrats are going to celebrate clearing.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Yeah, because I don't think she actually wants to listen.
- 11:32Speaker 1: She hasn't moderated on gender issues, She hasn't been willing
- 11:36Speaker 1: to speak up about any of these controversies, things that
- 11:38Speaker 1: are again eighty twenty issues. She just keeps her mouth shut.
- 11:42Speaker 1: She wants the state to be a sanctuary state at
- 11:44Speaker 1: some level, she's like, doesn't want to cut that off.
- 11:48Speaker 1: And then she was asked this weekend if she would
- 11:52Speaker 1: work with Trump on like job development and making sure
- 11:57Speaker 1: that Virginas have jobs.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Here's her answer to that.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You position yourself as a consensus builder, someone who works
- 12:04Speaker 1: across the aisle.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Would you work with President Trump on areas like job creation?
- 12:09Speaker 4: I think that you know you don't work with the
- 12:11Speaker 4: arsonist who burns down the house to rebuild it, and
- 12:13Speaker 4: in this particular case, on the individual who's responsible for
- 12:18Speaker 4: an absolute attack on the federal workforce is not the
- 12:22Speaker 4: right person to help rebuild our economy.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Are you going to work with Donald Trump? No? No,
- 12:26Speaker 2: definitely not.
- 12:28Speaker 3: And a lot of her sort of mythos.
- 12:30Speaker 1: She did win in a swing district in Virginia that
- 12:33Speaker 1: had a lot of rural area in it, But I
- 12:36Speaker 1: have been surprised how unimpressive she is on the trail
- 12:39Speaker 1: at moments like this. And her whole claim to fame
- 12:42Speaker 1: is that in twenty twenty, in a private discussion with Democrats,
- 12:46Speaker 1: she said, like, we need to lean away from this
- 12:47Speaker 1: defund the police craziness. Yeah, good point, Representative Spanburger. That
- 12:54Speaker 1: was a leaked conversation. She didn't say that all. I
- 12:58Speaker 1: just think her credits and the normy area are not
- 13:01Speaker 1: as strong as people will suggest they are.
- 13:03Speaker 2: It's funny because it's usually for Democrats. It's like the
- 13:06Speaker 2: private conversations are further to the left. She has to
- 13:09Speaker 2: pretend to be more of a leftist than she is
- 13:12Speaker 2: to get elected. That's great, that's great.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Anyway, we will cure it on those results when we
- 13:19Speaker 1: have them.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll be right back with more on normally. We
- 13:27Speaker 2: are back on normally, with a little infighting on the right,
- 13:31Speaker 2: although I don't love the way that sounds because I
- 13:35Speaker 2: don't consider some of the people involved to be on
- 13:38Speaker 2: the right anymore or ever. Really, last episode, we talked
- 13:43Speaker 2: about Tucker Carlson having white supremacist Nick Fuentes. I don't
- 13:47Speaker 2: even know what to call him, white supremacist, just racist,
- 13:50Speaker 2: anti semitic, very misogynistic, just a gross human on his show.
- 13:56Speaker 2: He softballed Tucker, gave him softball questions and really kind
- 14:01Speaker 2: of tried to normalize fuents This story would have maybe
- 14:05Speaker 2: started to die down. I mean, how long can we
- 14:07Speaker 2: talk about a podcaster having another podcaster on his show.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Tucker's been heading in a really dark direction. As I
- 14:15Speaker 2: like to say, I was a big fan of Tucker
- 14:17Speaker 2: when he was a conservative. I don't really see any
- 14:18Speaker 2: conservative values from him anymore. He makes fun of Trump
- 14:23Speaker 2: administration accomplishments like no boys in girls' sports, or he
- 14:28Speaker 2: opposed the strike on Iran, which listen, I get it,
- 14:30Speaker 2: you could oppose, but he thinks there was a failure,
- 14:33Speaker 2: and I'm sorry. It just there's no way you could
- 14:36Speaker 2: see it like that. The new news that happened is
- 14:40Speaker 2: the Heritage Foundation, which is a storied conservative organization, has
- 14:46Speaker 2: into this debate. This story.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and Heritage, by the way, sort of got it
- 14:53Speaker 1: is known best or it's sort of its origin story
- 14:56Speaker 1: was that a couple of conservatives were like, we need
- 14:58Speaker 1: something that actually creates Paulo's so that if there's someone
- 15:01Speaker 1: ever elected who's conservative while we're in the wilderness in
- 15:04Speaker 1: the late seventies, we could be able to hand them something.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And that something was a lot of the architecture for
- 15:11Speaker 1: Reagan's term. Not that Reagan of course didn't have his
- 15:13Speaker 1: own ideas, but there was a blueprint handed out that
- 15:17Speaker 1: was like called the Mandate for Leadership controversially renamed Project
- 15:21Speaker 1: twenty twenty five from the very boring version that they
- 15:25Speaker 1: used to call it. So Mandate for Leadership was like
- 15:28Speaker 1: sort of like an underpinning of Reagan's years, and so
- 15:32Speaker 1: that has been the jumping off point for the rest
- 15:35Speaker 1: of Heritage history. But Heritage has undergone evolution as the
- 15:39Speaker 1: Republican Party and the Conservative movement has undergone evolution, and
- 15:43Speaker 1: this seems like an evolution I'm not excited about.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah. So, Kevin Roberts is the current president of Heritage
- 15:50Speaker 2: and Heritage Action, and I really like him. I am
- 15:54Speaker 2: not in any way anti Kevin Roberts. I thought he
- 15:57Speaker 2: was doing a fantastic job at Heritage. I get the
- 16:01Speaker 2: criticisms of Project twenty twenty five, but I thought a
- 16:05Speaker 2: lot of it was really smart. It's crazy to me
- 16:08Speaker 2: that we're having this conversation about Kevin Roberts because I
- 16:11Speaker 2: always saw him as such a kind of not middle
- 16:15Speaker 2: of the road. That's the wrong term. Very again, maybe normal,
- 16:18Speaker 2: maybe normal is the way to go here. I saw
- 16:20Speaker 2: him as a normal guy. So what he did on
- 16:23Speaker 2: Friday is he put out a video and he tweeted,
- 16:27Speaker 2: I'm sorry it wasn't Friday, it was Thursday. He said.
- 16:29Speaker 2: There's been speculation that Heritage is distancing itself from Tucker
- 16:32Speaker 2: Carlson over the past twenty four hours. I want to
- 16:35Speaker 2: put that to rest right now here are my thoughts,
- 16:38Speaker 2: and he just said such inflammatory things. Let's roll a
- 16:44Speaker 2: clip that I think was particularly inflammatory.
- 16:47Speaker 5: We will always defend America, and we will always defend
- 16:50Speaker 5: our friends against the slander of bad actors who serve
- 16:54Speaker 5: someone else's agenda. That includes Tucker Carlson, who remains and
- 16:59Speaker 5: as I have said before, always will be a close
- 17:02Speaker 5: friend of the Heritage Foundation. The venomous coalition attacking him
- 17:06Speaker 5: are sewing division. Their attempt to cancel him will fail.
- 17:11Speaker 2: The venomous coalition who serves somebody else's interests. It's a
- 17:15Speaker 2: really dark kind of phrasing, and I think a lot
- 17:19Speaker 2: of people were shocked at it. The thing is and
- 17:23Speaker 2: what I've loved so much about being a conservative always,
- 17:27Speaker 2: but really in the last week when this bubbled up,
- 17:30Speaker 2: when Fentis went on Tucker's show, it was near unanimous
- 17:35Speaker 2: condemnation from conservatives. Of course, there are some who are like,
- 17:39Speaker 2: you know, let's hear the crazy white supremacists who hated
- 17:43Speaker 2: Charlie Kirk and tried to get people to not vote
- 17:46Speaker 2: for Donald Trump in this last election. Let's hear him out.
- 17:50Speaker 2: And I don't think the hearing him out is the problem.
- 17:52Speaker 2: So much as he went completely unchallenged by Tucker Carlston
- 17:55Speaker 2: because Tucker himself has gone down this terrible road where
- 18:00Speaker 2: he's obsessed with Jews and with Israel, and all of
- 18:03Speaker 2: his shows and all of his newsletters are only and
- 18:07Speaker 2: always about this. So for Kevin Roberts to get into
- 18:10Speaker 2: this and say we will stand by Tucker no matter
- 18:13Speaker 2: what he says was just a crazy thing to do.
- 18:17Speaker 2: And the backlash to this has been swift and I
- 18:21Speaker 2: just love to see it.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Yeah, And apparently what triggered this was someone took down
- 18:26Speaker 1: an internal web page or not an internal webpage but
- 18:28Speaker 1: not an important part of the website, but something that
- 18:31Speaker 1: referenced Carlson on the heritage website. And then there was
- 18:34Speaker 1: this like they felt the need to set the record
- 18:37Speaker 1: straight while all of us were setting the record straight
- 18:39Speaker 1: that like probably hosting right white nationalist is not a
- 18:42Speaker 1: great idea now important for the right also not just
- 18:45Speaker 1: the standing up on this, but I didn't see one
- 18:47Speaker 1: person call for Tucker to not have a play right right.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Zero people said that, or who was trying to cancel him.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Here people are saying that what they are saying is like, look,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't make the decision to have Fintus on my show.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I don't think it's good to elevent like him. I
- 19:02Speaker 1: want my guardrails like way out here with a lot
- 19:05Speaker 1: of allowable speech.
- 19:06Speaker 3: But like I'm not hosting that.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, how if I did this, I would ask
- 19:10Speaker 2: difficult questions.
- 19:11Speaker 1: If someone wishes to host him, please grill him. And
- 19:15Speaker 1: I know you're smart enough to do it.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:17Speaker 1: So it was to me an unforced error, but telling
- 19:23Speaker 1: that the head of Heritage Foundation felt the need to
- 19:26Speaker 1: stand up on this point, and he said, you know,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I find some of Foin's views abhorrent, but like we
- 19:33Speaker 1: don't sort of shut off discussion, and it's like, okay.
- 19:37Speaker 1: The other thing is Tucker's whole thing is saying the
- 19:42Speaker 1: rest of us are wrong about everything, right, right, if
- 19:46Speaker 1: indeed we are on the same side, which, as you
- 19:48Speaker 1: point out, it feels very much not like that, then
- 19:52Speaker 1: why is he not in trouble for coming at everybody else?
- 19:54Speaker 2: Exactly? It's only one side and this has been the point.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Also on the Tucker Finds interview, Tucker said that he
- 20:02Speaker 2: hates Christian Zionists, and again, Charlie Kirk was murdered not
- 20:07Speaker 2: even two months ago, and he was I think he
- 20:11Speaker 2: was the most famous Christian Zionist in the country. Like
- 20:14Speaker 2: I can't think of anybody bigger than Charlie Kirk on
- 20:18Speaker 2: Christian Zionism. But what is Tucker saying here, And it's
- 20:21Speaker 2: just it's mind boggling. Well, and the fact that he
- 20:24Speaker 2: can so often say, all these people on the right,
- 20:27Speaker 2: he hates this person, and he hates this person, and
- 20:28Speaker 2: he hates this person and he hates this person. And
- 20:30Speaker 2: that's not sowing divisions somehow that's a problem.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Well, and also to that point, let me commend Dana
- 20:36Speaker 1: lash who amazing, which is so great, who is a
- 20:41Speaker 1: conservative who has worked with heritage forever as many of
- 20:44Speaker 1: us have, right, and she went to them and said
- 20:47Speaker 1: to her contacts over there, like get him on the
- 20:50Speaker 1: show so that I can talk to him and ask
- 20:52Speaker 1: him what you guys are doing.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Because this is one of these things that can.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Feel very in the weeds, and it is right, this
- 20:59Speaker 1: is this is an online conversation has a movement conversation,
- 21:02Speaker 1: not a normy conversation.
- 21:04Speaker 3: However, what happens in.
- 21:06Speaker 1: These fights dictated what flows downstream eventually. So that's the
- 21:10Speaker 1: fight we're having Dana Lash was in the fight and
- 21:13Speaker 1: she had a question about exactly what were you were
- 21:16Speaker 1: saying for Kevin Roberts, and this was his response.
- 21:18Speaker 6: What we're trying to do is eliminate that kind of
- 21:21Speaker 6: venom both directions.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Is it venomous to say that you hate Christian zionis?
- 21:26Speaker 6: Well, of course it is. I mean, I've been really clear,
- 21:30Speaker 6: not just yesterday and today, but my entire career that
- 21:34Speaker 6: and Heritage certainly has in its entire existence, that those
- 21:37Speaker 6: kinds of things are just abhorrent. I was I said
- 21:39Speaker 6: that literally yesterday.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Because Tucker said those things, So that would be I mean,
- 21:46Speaker 2: is that not so?
- 21:47Speaker 3: In division?
- 21:50Speaker 6: It's certainly not helpful, but it doesn't mean that he
- 21:52Speaker 6: ought to be canceled because of it.
- 21:53Speaker 2: In fact, that's not the question is not whether he
- 21:55Speaker 2: should be canceled. Is that so in division to say
- 21:58Speaker 2: things like that.
- 22:00Speaker 6: Certainly, and a lot of our friend's minds.
- 22:03Speaker 2: But the point that you didn't put that in your statement.
- 22:08Speaker 6: Because the proximity or the context for the statement was
- 22:12Speaker 6: something very different. And that was, as we were talking
- 22:15Speaker 6: about a few minutes ago, all of the pressure that
- 22:17Speaker 6: Heritage was receiving to cancel Tucker, which is not we
- 22:21Speaker 6: wouldn't do that to you, We wouldn't do that to him.
- 22:24Speaker 2: That's the question. He also seemed very surprised by many
- 22:28Speaker 2: of the things that she brought up that Tucker has said,
- 22:30Speaker 2: which led people to believe that he didn't write the video,
- 22:34Speaker 2: he didn't write the text for the video, and then
- 22:36Speaker 2: his chief of staff was moved to some other part
- 22:39Speaker 2: of Heritage Foundation and people like, oh, maybe that's who
- 22:42Speaker 2: wrote it. Again, you're right, this is so in the weeds.
- 22:46Speaker 2: But another defense of Tucker that I keep seeing online
- 22:51Speaker 2: is why are we wasting time talking about this? We
- 22:54Speaker 2: have real issues, we have a real fight with the left.
- 22:57Speaker 2: And again I say, take this up with Tucker Cross.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Why is he not talking about any of the issues
- 23:03Speaker 2: that we have with the left? Why is he constantly
- 23:06Speaker 2: constantly only going after people on the right, And why
- 23:09Speaker 2: is he constantly only talking about Israel, only talking about Jews,
- 23:14Speaker 2: making that the focal point of every single episode. It's
- 23:17Speaker 2: just there's something about that that is dark, and I
- 23:21Speaker 2: think that you can't ignore that and pretend that we're
- 23:24Speaker 2: the ones who keep talking about Tucker. No, he's the
- 23:27Speaker 2: one who keeps bringing the conversation back to this, And
- 23:30Speaker 2: I'll also say Tucker does these newsletters now, and the
- 23:33Speaker 2: newsletters are almost entirely about Israel or Jews. So on
- 23:38Speaker 2: today's newsletter, the headline is Trump threatens to defund Nigeria
- 23:42Speaker 2: if Christian killings continue. Now you would think Tucker Carlston,
- 23:47Speaker 2: self proclaimed Christian, would before this. He doesn't come off
- 23:51Speaker 2: as super four defunding Nigeria. In fact, guess what he
- 23:55Speaker 2: found a way to bring it back to He says, so,
- 23:58Speaker 2: how come Mark Levin would label him an anti Jewish
- 24:01Speaker 2: racist if he made the exact same statement about Israel.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Isn't that a weird double standard? This may be hard
- 24:06Speaker 2: for Levin and his ethno narcissist caucus to accept, but
- 24:10Speaker 2: criticism of their beloved country has nothing to do with Judaism,
- 24:13Speaker 2: just like Trump's statement on Nigeria is not an attack
- 24:16Speaker 2: on blacks. It's about putting America first. Christians are being slaughtered,
- 24:20Speaker 2: and this is what your argument is. It just there's
- 24:23Speaker 2: nothing conservative going on here.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Well, and I think you could deploy the same bandwidth
- 24:27Speaker 1: an attention argument against Roberts, who I think probably has
- 24:31Speaker 1: learned a lesson from this that maybe the one straight
- 24:35Speaker 1: to camera video you do in a week shouldn't be
- 24:37Speaker 1: about this. Yeah, right, it really That's what it signaled
- 24:41Speaker 1: to me, is like, oh, this is a very big
- 24:43Speaker 1: deal to him that he did this video. And I
- 24:47Speaker 1: think part of that, again, this is the struggle. Part
- 24:50Speaker 1: of that is because there is a young cohort of
- 24:55Speaker 1: right leaning young people that I think misc Some people
- 25:01Speaker 1: are thinking the only way to keep these people yes
- 25:04Speaker 1: in the movement is to host this guy. And I'm like, no, no, no,
- 25:07Speaker 1: perhaps we should host better people, right, and.
- 25:11Speaker 2: This will argue about this guy.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah, the vacuum left by Charlie Kirk is so damaging
- 25:17Speaker 1: because he was the model for that.
- 25:19Speaker 2: You're absolutely right, all right. I'm going to end with
- 25:22Speaker 2: two white pills, as the kids say, and one of them,
- 25:25Speaker 2: actually tweets actually contain contains the phrase white pill. This
- 25:28Speaker 2: one's from Joel Berry. He says it's a major white pill,
- 25:31Speaker 2: which means a positive thing. That the Heritage Foundation gave
- 25:35Speaker 2: no enemies to the right a mainstream test drive this week,
- 25:38Speaker 2: and it blew up in their faces because the American
- 25:41Speaker 2: right still has a conscience and a moral compass. Praise
- 25:44Speaker 2: Praise Christ the King for small mercies, and I just
- 25:47Speaker 2: you know, I love that so much, because again I
- 25:50Speaker 2: wasn't sure how it was going to go. I wasn't
- 25:53Speaker 2: sure that the right was going to say absolutely not
- 25:56Speaker 2: not on our watch. Tucker is a very popular figure.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I've said it before, but he is very personable. I
- 26:03Speaker 2: really used to like him and care about him a lot.
- 26:05Speaker 2: I understand that impulse from other people, but he is
- 26:09Speaker 2: leading us down a dangerous path. The other tweet similar
- 26:12Speaker 2: to this is from Abe Greenwald. He says the right
- 26:15Speaker 2: responded to half a dozen Jew hating podcasters and one
- 26:18Speaker 2: think tank president with overwhelming and immediate condemnation. The left
- 26:23Speaker 2: encouraged two years of abject pro jihad support and terrorism
- 26:27Speaker 2: to thrive without ever putting its foot down. I'm so
- 26:30Speaker 2: glad we're not doing the same as the left has
- 26:32Speaker 2: done here well.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And I want to say also just in a general sense,
- 26:36Speaker 1: because of the generational change in views on Israel, which
- 26:39Speaker 1: may be recovered.
- 26:40Speaker 2: At some points, but.
- 26:44Speaker 1: The lasting victory of Israel from seven fronts during the
- 26:48Speaker 1: past two years, pretty again, good bye President Trump, really
- 26:52Speaker 1: important for moving forward if in fact the public.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Turn off the.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Changes in these coming generations. And you know, there can
- 27:01Speaker 1: be work to do about educating people about our only,
- 27:04Speaker 1: our only liberal democracy alley in the Middle East. It's
- 27:07Speaker 1: pretty important.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, I'll end this. I am not worried
- 27:10Speaker 2: about Israel. I'm worried about America. When I hear the
- 27:14Speaker 2: Tuckers and the Fuentesses, I'm not like, oh God, Israel's
- 27:18Speaker 2: going to suffer because of this. I think America is
- 27:20Speaker 2: going to suffer because of this. Israel will be just fine.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Will we be just fine if we take their path?
- 27:28Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:29Speaker 3: I mean, you can look around at the left for
- 27:31Speaker 3: the last couple of years.
- 27:32Speaker 2: You really can. Great. No, no good, all right, we'll
- 27:35Speaker 2: be right back with more on normally. We are back
- 27:42Speaker 2: on normally where Erica Kirk, Charlie's widow is getting some
- 27:48Speaker 2: really gross condemnation and we are here to say absolutely
- 27:54Speaker 2: not on our watch.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I told you guys, I was gonna be a widow
- 27:57Speaker 1: defense because it is a strange thing in particularly if
- 28:00Speaker 1: you're a public figure, that people really feel free to
- 28:05Speaker 1: speculate about you, to question your motives. I got this
- 28:09Speaker 1: after my husband died in twenty fifteen, or people would
- 28:13Speaker 1: just assume that I got jobs because no like it
- 28:17Speaker 1: is gross. It's a gross thing. It happens not infrequently.
- 28:23Speaker 1: This woman is now, I think, like fifty five days
- 28:26Speaker 1: from having watched her husband be murdered, and people are
- 28:31Speaker 1: watching her under a microscope, and I think some of
- 28:34Speaker 1: it is just like this is how this goes. Some
- 28:37Speaker 1: of it is she's too public and she's too powerful,
- 28:41Speaker 1: and there are people both on left and right who
- 28:43Speaker 1: do not like that.
- 28:44Speaker 3: But I got news for y'all. Her name's Kirk. She's
- 28:48Speaker 3: legally the inheritor of his legacy. She is now legally
- 28:52Speaker 3: the inheritor of the organization that he ran. That makes
- 28:55Speaker 3: perfect sense.
- 28:56Speaker 1: If you don't like a lady doing that, you might
- 28:58Speaker 1: get mad about it. But like the accusations of the
- 29:01Speaker 1: most recent one is somebody took a screenshot from a
- 29:05Speaker 1: hug she gave Vice President jd Vance and alleged this
- 29:11Speaker 1: is inappropriate. If you watch the video, you'll know why
- 29:13Speaker 1: they chose a screenshot because the video is like zero
- 29:15Speaker 1: point seven seconds.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 29:17Speaker 1: The hug is like hug moves, yeah, right. But the
- 29:21Speaker 1: desire is to plant these terrible seeds about this woman
- 29:25Speaker 1: who is like just trying to get through it. Guys,
- 29:28Speaker 1: and by the way, trying to box out forces that
- 29:31Speaker 1: are bad, trying to take over her husband's legacy.
- 29:33Speaker 3: She's been forced to do.
- 29:35Speaker 2: That, right. Absolutely. We mentioned in the last segment that
- 29:39Speaker 2: Nick Fuentess hated Charlie Kirk and the feeling was mutual.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Charlie Kirk thought Nick Fuentess was bringing some of the
- 29:44Speaker 2: absolute worst elements in the country out, And yeah, Erica
- 29:48Speaker 2: now needs to preserve TPUSA from that Fuentas wing and
- 29:53Speaker 2: finds frequently talks and brags about bringing down TPUSA. So
- 30:00Speaker 2: this is a woman who is not only preserving her family,
- 30:04Speaker 2: having to take care of her children who watched her husband,
- 30:07Speaker 2: as you said, be murdered right in front of her.
- 30:10Speaker 2: She's also somebody who has to protect this organization and
- 30:14Speaker 2: she's doing the best she can. I pray for her,
- 30:16Speaker 2: and we're absolutely not going to stand for any Erica
- 30:19Speaker 2: Kirk bashing.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Yeah, one last thought, Kyle Kulinski was perhaps among the
- 30:23Speaker 1: worst behaved. He is a liberal commentator married to Crystal Ball,
- 30:26Speaker 1: and he just went on a full day long AI
- 30:30Speaker 1: disgusting display attacking her for her fake grief for what
- 30:34Speaker 1: you know, alleging that she was in affairs with people.
- 30:37Speaker 1: It's so disgusting. It should be counterproductive for their movement
- 30:40Speaker 1: and anyone making this kind of accusation, and I hope
- 30:43Speaker 1: that it is. And he got a lot of flak
- 30:46Speaker 1: for it, but the fact that he kept posting it
- 30:48Speaker 1: is one of the things I dislike about the Internet,
- 30:49Speaker 1: which is like more clicks meant more money for him
- 30:53Speaker 1: for this disgusting stuff.
- 30:54Speaker 2: It's really terrible, and I saw people on the right
- 30:56Speaker 2: also engaging with it. Again, I think it's that same
- 30:59Speaker 2: point as Wing engaging with it and saying, you know,
- 31:01Speaker 2: she's not just appropriately. She needs to humble herself, she
- 31:05Speaker 2: needs to be more modest. I think she should do
- 31:08Speaker 2: whatever she wants to do, especially to get through this
- 31:11Speaker 2: incredibly difficult time. And we are rooting for you, Erica Kirk.
- 31:15Speaker 3: We are indeed Widow Defense over here.
- 31:18Speaker 2: That's right, I'm back up. Well, thanks for joining us
