- 0:08Speaker 1: It's the number one rated Polly and Tony Fools go
- 0:10Speaker 1: seaw yo yo yo, Polly Fools go here with Tony
- 0:15Speaker 1: Fools Go and Tony huge show today. But first, you know,
- 0:21Speaker 1: we gotta get a few orders of business stopping people.
- 0:25Speaker 1: You've been listening In the last few weeks, we've laid
- 0:28Speaker 1: out an expert case for why the Super Bowl fifty
- 0:32Speaker 1: seven results should be overturned, and well, let's just say
- 0:35Speaker 1: we can't elaborate much more. But now it's in the
- 0:38Speaker 1: hands of our lawyers who will soon be filing a
- 0:42Speaker 1: massive class action lawsuit on behalf of the millions of
- 0:46Speaker 1: viewers who are robbed of a fair ending in the
- 0:48Speaker 1: Super Bowl and Tony. You know, we can't talk too much,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but let's just say we've got some high powered people involved,
- 0:54Speaker 1: don't we. Yeah, you know Alan Dershowitz. Well, we're in
- 0:58Speaker 1: touch with a guy goes to the same gym as him. Yeah,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and he advised us to just you know, cease talking
- 1:04Speaker 1: about it for a moment, you know, just until the
- 1:06Speaker 1: cases result. Problem. So that's what we're gonna do. Besides,
- 1:09Speaker 1: we got huge sports news to tell you about on
- 1:13Speaker 1: the show, lots of big drama at ESPN, Tony, I
- 1:16Speaker 1: couldn't believe. Yeah yeah, jj Reddick and Kendrick Perkins getting
- 1:20Speaker 1: into it. And then a clip from first take that
- 1:24Speaker 1: was so shameful in shocking that exposed the whole truth
- 1:28Speaker 1: about what goes on behind the scenes at ESPN. And
- 1:31Speaker 1: we're gonna bring on a former ESPN employee to talk
- 1:35Speaker 1: about it, a man who is truly a legend over
- 1:38Speaker 1: there in Bristol for years. Oh yeah, former researcher, producer
- 1:42Speaker 1: turned on air talent Howie Schwab. Oh yeah yeah, former
- 1:47Speaker 1: Most of US game show stumped the Schwab known as
- 1:50Speaker 1: the Sultan of Sports Trivia, that is until a couple
- 1:54Speaker 1: of years ago when he came on the show and
- 1:57Speaker 1: Tony absolutely destroyed him why the floor with him in
- 2:01Speaker 1: a battle of sports trivia and took the title. In fact, Tony,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I'm surprised that Howie Schwab is even showing his face again.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Maybe he wants a rematch, maybe, yeah, no problem, but
- 2:12Speaker 1: he's got to be nuts to do that. So yeah, absolutely,
- 2:15Speaker 1: And that's actually a terrific segue, Tony, because on the
- 2:18Speaker 1: subject of nuts, It's time for a word from our
- 2:21Speaker 1: new sponsor, our good friends at Blue Diamond Almonds. Do
- 2:26Speaker 1: you eat almonds that aren't totally coated in seasoning? Why
- 2:30Speaker 1: the fuck you're doing that? Yeah? What are you a squirrel?
- 2:34Speaker 1: Eat your almonds? Was seasoning? Call? Blue Diamond Almonds get
- 2:40Speaker 1: a six sound scan for the low low price of
- 2:42Speaker 1: twenty four and ninety nine, available at all CVS locations
- 2:46Speaker 1: Blue Diamond Almonds. Let's not waste any more time yet, Tony,
- 2:50Speaker 1: Let's get right into our top story to story. First
- 2:57Speaker 1: out of the gate, Just a terrible wig for ESPN
- 3:01Speaker 1: two shocking incidents occurring during their morning show first take,
- 3:06Speaker 1: and we're gonna talk about one of them right now.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yet occurred on the segment where Stephen A. Smith was
- 3:14Speaker 1: asking long time New York sports broadcast of Michael Gay
- 3:18Speaker 1: to name who he thought would be the next New
- 3:21Speaker 1: York team to win a championship. Let's go ahead and
- 3:24Speaker 1: play that clip. Which team in New York do you
- 3:27Speaker 1: think wins a championship? Next? Rangers? Oh? Lord, come on, Patrick,
- 3:36Speaker 1: they don't count. They don't count. The only thing I
- 3:39Speaker 1: know about hockey that is black, and I love that
- 3:47Speaker 1: it is no disrespect to the Rangers and to Patrick
- 3:50Speaker 1: Kane of course, but just just for Steve fotball, basketball, baseball.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah wow, I still can't believe it. Just so disrespectful, disrespectful.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You know you're here, Steve even a. They're totally shutting
- 4:02Speaker 1: down the hockey conversation, trying to shift the conversation of football, baseball, basketball,
- 4:07Speaker 1: believing NHL has always been considered one of the four
- 4:11Speaker 1: major sports. You know, it's right up there with NFL, NBA,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and MLB. Totally nothing competes with it absolutely. I mean,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, well unless you count NASCAR, but that's only
- 4:22Speaker 1: in the South regional. Yeah, and uh maybe UFC, but
- 4:27Speaker 1: that's on pay per view elitist. Yeah, and uh maybe
- 4:31Speaker 1: golf with Tiger Woods, but he's out of the picture
- 4:34Speaker 1: now peg leg And I guess you got to throw
- 4:37Speaker 1: in college football and college basketball to which are not
- 4:41Speaker 1: pro not not pro. And well maybe you got to
- 4:44Speaker 1: throw in Little league baseball because that does do big
- 4:47Speaker 1: numbers for about a month each year. Yeahs and also poker.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Also true horse racing. Yeah that's fair, but it's animal sports,
- 4:57Speaker 1: so you know, aster Rick, Well, other than that, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 1: the hockey's a Big Four Sport. It's undispotally can't argue.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Can't argue on the subject of arguing. Another great transition
- 5:09Speaker 1: there by you, Tony, thank you. Yeah. That leads to
- 5:11Speaker 1: another incident we saw on First Take this week up
- 5:14Speaker 1: bruhaha breaking out between JJ Reddick and Kendrick Perkins. You know,
- 5:20Speaker 1: Reddick fired back at Perkins because he thought Perkins was
- 5:24Speaker 1: accusing the NBA MVP voters of being a kind of racist.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I guess because they gave MVP awards to Nikola, Joe Kick,
- 5:33Speaker 1: Dirk Nowitzki, and Steve Nash and now they appear to
- 5:37Speaker 1: be giving the awards to Joe Kick once again. And
- 5:40Speaker 1: you know, Tony, it is an interesting point that Kendrick
- 5:43Speaker 1: Perkins is making here, but you felt he missed the
- 5:46Speaker 1: point kind it didn't you. Unfortunately, Yes, you see, Kendrick
- 5:51Speaker 1: Perkins was on the right track with his criticism of
- 5:54Speaker 1: NBA MVP voting, but a closer look reveals that the
- 5:58Speaker 1: real reason Nikola Joe Kick keeps getting named MVP is
- 6:02Speaker 1: that in sports media there's clearly a strong pro Serbian bias.
- 6:08Speaker 1: You think it's bad with the NBA MVP, just look
- 6:11Speaker 1: at the award for ATP tennis player or the year.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Every year they got Novak Djokovic winning over and over again,
- 6:21Speaker 1: as you can see more evidence of clear Serbian bias.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Terrific journalism and research that Doty once again, and let's
- 6:30Speaker 1: move from the NBA to the NFL where we saw
- 6:33Speaker 1: the conclusion of the NFL combine. Now, most analysts say
- 6:38Speaker 1: University of Florida kibe Anthony Richardson totally improved his draft stock.
- 6:44Speaker 1: But they got a lot of naysayers out there, Doty,
- 6:47Speaker 1: who say you shouldn't put too much weight on what
- 6:50Speaker 1: happens in the combine. They say they don't know what
- 6:52Speaker 1: they're tost about. But those people, yeah, they don't know
- 6:55Speaker 1: what they're talking about, do they, Tony? Not at all.
- 6:58Speaker 1: People say there's more pressure when a QB has to
- 7:01Speaker 1: play in a real game in front of real people,
- 7:04Speaker 1: But I'd argue there's more pressure when there's no people
- 7:08Speaker 1: think about it. I mean, if you overthrow a receiver
- 7:12Speaker 1: in front of eighty thousand people in a playoff game,
- 7:15Speaker 1: well that's understandable. Nobody bats an eye it happens, yep.
- 7:19Speaker 1: But if you can't complete a pass to a wide
- 7:22Speaker 1: open receiver with no defender in front of no crowd.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Career over. That's pressure. Great point, Tony, And you know
- 7:32Speaker 1: you can jump off your point there. You know we
- 7:35Speaker 1: see this in basketball, toad, don't we Where's the most
- 7:38Speaker 1: pressure the free throw line? There you go and staying
- 7:43Speaker 1: in the NFL big contract goes. The Giants decided to
- 7:48Speaker 1: give that quarterback, Daniel Jones, a four year, one hundred
- 7:51Speaker 1: and sixty million dollar deal for reasons nobody seems to know.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And Tony, this is already having a massive ripple effect
- 7:59Speaker 1: through whole league, isn't it. Absolutely this has totally changed
- 8:04Speaker 1: the market for QB's in their valuations. In fact, I
- 8:08Speaker 1: crunched the numbers here and according to my calculations, if
- 8:12Speaker 1: a totally hitty, garbage QB like Daniel Jones is worth
- 8:16Speaker 1: a hundred and sixty million, then you have to project
- 8:20Speaker 1: that Jalen Hurts is worth approximately one point two billion dollars.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Give a take. Wow, just tremendous analysis and computation that, Tony,
- 8:32Speaker 1: And you know I would love to get into that more,
- 8:35Speaker 1: but a guest is coming on the line, so let's
- 8:39Speaker 1: bring him on. The Fusco Satellite Network. Satellite all right,
- 8:45Speaker 1: for decades Now, this guy's been considered one of the
- 8:49Speaker 1: legends over at ESPN. He worked behind the scenes as
- 8:53Speaker 1: a researcher and producer, you know the story, before becoming
- 8:56Speaker 1: on air co host of the popular sports trivia game
- 9:00Speaker 1: show Stump the Schwab, where he became known around the
- 9:04Speaker 1: world as the Sultan of Sports Trivia, the title which,
- 9:09Speaker 1: as you remember, he lost right here on this show
- 9:13Speaker 1: two years ago when absolutely Tony absolutely just wiped the
- 9:18Speaker 1: floor with him and in a totally fair sports trivia competition.
- 9:23Speaker 1: So we do have to give him his due for
- 9:26Speaker 1: being man enough to come on the show again show
- 9:28Speaker 1: his face after that total humiliation. Respect Welcome back to
- 9:33Speaker 1: the show. Welcome back, Howie? How much are you paying
- 9:36Speaker 1: me for this? Oh? We're off with a pang. Yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 1: we're going to start here. Is that how you started
- 9:42Speaker 1: negotiations with the ESPN No wonder they left you on
- 9:46Speaker 1: the side of the highway in Bristol after that introduction. Now,
- 9:49Speaker 1: how you kicked my ass the last time? Great, we
- 9:53Speaker 1: were we were very respectful about the very respectful. You're
- 9:56Speaker 1: wearing an eagle jersey. I'm a giant man. Good job
- 10:00Speaker 1: that right. We're like, look, we know you're back here.
- 10:06Speaker 1: How you want to win your title back? And we're
- 10:07Speaker 1: gonna give you that shot. But first, it was a
- 10:10Speaker 1: moment this week. You may have seen it on ESPN's
- 10:12Speaker 1: First Take with Stephen A. Smith. Totally Michael Kay for
- 10:18Speaker 1: attempting to talk hot. Believe your reaction to that clip.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I think it's awful because the NHL has very much
- 10:27Speaker 1: earned its right to be among the major sports. There
- 10:30Speaker 1: you go, there you go. I understand if you don't
- 10:34Speaker 1: want to say it's ESPN will say the NBA is
- 10:37Speaker 1: above it, and we'll say baseball and football. Of course,
- 10:41Speaker 1: the NFL it's up there, Okay, But the bottom line
- 10:44Speaker 1: is this, Look what the look what Look what the
- 10:47Speaker 1: Boston Bruins have done this year? One of the greatest
- 10:50Speaker 1: years every David, Yeah, Conor McDavid, he's the things every
- 10:57Speaker 1: American knows. Yep. Now we want to know you worked
- 11:00Speaker 1: behind the scenes there When you were there, did you
- 11:02Speaker 1: notice a strong anti hockey bias at ESPN? I would
- 11:08Speaker 1: say that hockey did not get its just do ye
- 11:11Speaker 1: when it was not on the network. I mean the
- 11:14Speaker 1: stories they did were like the Russian spies, uh involving hockey.
- 11:20Speaker 1: There were others. I mean no, I don't think they
- 11:23Speaker 1: dropped the job. Uh. And it was off the air.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Once it came back on the air, uh, I thought that, Well,
- 11:31Speaker 1: they gave it a little more respect. They they have
- 11:35Speaker 1: that TV show the point, Yes, they give it a
- 11:39Speaker 1: little bit replaced first take in NAPI. Yeah, they should
- 11:42Speaker 1: have Barry Melrose on every morning first take. They're missing
- 11:46Speaker 1: the point literally, yeah, yeah, exactly. Barry would have to
- 11:49Speaker 1: get up early. I don't know if you'd want that
- 11:58Speaker 1: about that, but I it's a shame because there there's
- 12:03Speaker 1: ways to give it more publicity. Unfortunately, I think when
- 12:09Speaker 1: you're talking about first take, I don't think Stephen A
- 12:12Speaker 1: really cares that much about hockey. So yeah, yeah he's
- 12:19Speaker 1: been outed. Now you don't love nothing else he let
- 12:22Speaker 1: me Steven A. Smith gets criticized by some people. Steven A.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Smith's a good person, yes, but he's so anti hockey,
- 12:31Speaker 1: and that's shape. He's a good person who's anti hockey.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Is that what led to your split with ESPN, that Hey,
- 12:39Speaker 1: if you don't put on more hockey, I'm leaving you
- 12:41Speaker 1: violently demand they put on more hockey coverage, And there
- 12:44Speaker 1: was some sort of fight between you and them, No,
- 12:47Speaker 1: that did not happen. That's what we heard that you
- 12:51Speaker 1: walked in one day and you punched one of the
- 12:54Speaker 1: producers in the mouth and you said, lead with the
- 12:56Speaker 1: Nordecks verst the senators. Yeah, it's funny to tell his story,
- 13:03Speaker 1: which is obviously not true. But one time I did
- 13:07Speaker 1: have a disagreement the producer a sports center when Mario
- 13:11Speaker 1: Lemieux was going to be out for like months. He
- 13:15Speaker 1: had is the fourth story in the show? Are you
- 13:17Speaker 1: kidding me? And I went, I went crazy. I went
- 13:20Speaker 1: to above his head. I went to one of the
- 13:23Speaker 1: Boston said this is good game. You're wrong. Yeah, they
- 13:28Speaker 1: changed it, and that guy pissed off at me. But
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know what, I wasn't wrong so well on the
- 13:34Speaker 1: subject the way you are wrong. That's called a segue.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Yeah that's a great, Paul. I want to win your
- 13:40Speaker 1: title back. You want to play the trivia again. So yeah,
- 13:43Speaker 1: it's gonna be time right now, not really, not clearly.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Oh see he's scared. He's already given himself now. Oh no, no,
- 13:52Speaker 1: no I'm not. I'm ready. I'll get ready. I can't
- 13:56Speaker 1: wait to hear the assn questions that are going to
- 13:59Speaker 1: come my way. But it's all good, he's implying. This
- 14:07Speaker 1: isn't the super Bowl. Don't worry, it's not so well.
- 14:12Speaker 1: You get your chance at payback right now. Okay, you're
- 14:15Speaker 1: winning the talking competition. Now win the listening competition. All right,
- 14:20Speaker 1: here we go. We're gonna do the exact same thing
- 14:22Speaker 1: we did with you last time, okay, which you clearly
- 14:24Speaker 1: haven't forgotten. You still but heard about it. Hopefully it
- 14:27Speaker 1: works out better for you this time. I'm going to
- 14:29Speaker 1: ask each of you, how are you? And Tony? You
- 14:32Speaker 1: randomly selected questions. Okay, if you get the question right,
- 14:37Speaker 1: you get one point. Howie. I'm gonna ask you the
- 14:40Speaker 1: first question. Then I'm gonna ask Tony a question. We're
- 14:42Speaker 1: gonna do this for three rounds, back and forth. Whoever
- 14:46Speaker 1: has the most points after three rounds wins the game
- 14:51Speaker 1: and the title of Sultan of Sports Trivia. Okay, so
- 14:55Speaker 1: I'm do it. Everyone's on board. It's time to begin
- 15:00Speaker 1: a rematch the Sultan of Sports Trivia Showdown. Yeah you're ready, Howie,
- 15:09Speaker 1: are the first one's coming to you. The first category
- 15:12Speaker 1: for our first round is NFL. Okay, here you go, Howie.
- 15:16Speaker 1: This one's for you. People like to say Patrick Baholmes
- 15:20Speaker 1: is a great quarterback, but he's not that great. He's
- 15:24Speaker 1: not even the Chiefs all time passing yards leader. He's
- 15:27Speaker 1: second on the list all time. First in Chief's history is,
- 15:32Speaker 1: of course, Len Dawson. Howie, tell me for one point,
- 15:36Speaker 1: who is third on the list. I was gonna say,
- 15:39Speaker 1: Lenn Dawson's first. Oh my god, do bad for you.
- 15:47Speaker 1: We're already struggling. Yeah, don't make me buzz you out here. Yeah,
- 15:55Speaker 1: you got a time limit five four, three two one?
- 16:01Speaker 1: All right, Tony, this who this whole count told you total?
- 16:04Speaker 1: But Tony, just out of curiosity, do you know the
- 16:07Speaker 1: answer to that one? Trent Green? Boo to you? Got
- 16:13Speaker 1: Trent Green is the correct answer? There not a great
- 16:19Speaker 1: start for you. All right now we moved to Tony. Okay, Tony,
- 16:22Speaker 1: this one's for you, Trent Green. As we just established
- 16:26Speaker 1: this third in all time passing yards for the Chiefs.
- 16:29Speaker 1: But eleventh on the list is which notable four times
- 16:33Speaker 1: super Bowl winning quarterback. Excuse me, Howie, Tony needs to focus,
- 16:39Speaker 1: So please, Howie, please, I believe it's Joe Montana boot correct.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Joe Montan is the corrects After round one Tony has won. Howie,
- 16:53Speaker 1: still zero and that's even dating back to our last
- 16:56Speaker 1: competition where you finished with zero. So hopefully you'll get
- 16:59Speaker 1: on the board soon. All right, next question now we
- 17:01Speaker 1: get ready to category for this round is NBA. Okay,
- 17:06Speaker 1: we all remember nineteen ninety six when the Philadelphia seventy
- 17:10Speaker 1: six is used the number one overall pick to draft
- 17:14Speaker 1: Alan Iveson the Goat. But Howie, who did the Sixes
- 17:19Speaker 1: draft that same year with the thirty first pick. I'll
- 17:26Speaker 1: remind you these are all just randomly selected questions, randomly
- 17:31Speaker 1: selected Yeah, oh god, alright, Howie, we're gonna have to
- 17:36Speaker 1: speed up here. Our audience is gonna fall aslate did
- 17:39Speaker 1: thirty first overall? Yes, you Starwie, Donty. This will not
- 17:48Speaker 1: count doing a total. But do you happen to know
- 17:50Speaker 1: the answer to this one? I can't guess. Was it
- 17:54Speaker 1: Mark Hendrickson? Oh, Mark Hendrickson, of course, of course? And
- 18:00Speaker 1: you yep, yeah in baseball? Yeah, I remember Mark Hendrickson.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Oh my god, yes, I know how it's every Yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you remember it after I said it? Yeah? You do it? Yeah?
- 18:11Speaker 1: Hint that All right, Tony, this one's for you, same
- 18:14Speaker 1: category as we said Alan Iverson was drafted number one
- 18:19Speaker 1: overall in the nineteen ninety six draft US, which future
- 18:23Speaker 1: five time champ out of Wake Forest was the number
- 18:26Speaker 1: one pick in nineteen ninety seven. And it would be
- 18:35Speaker 1: Howie plays how he plays, I might as well just
- 18:38Speaker 1: give it to you. Come on, how he plays it?
- 18:40Speaker 1: Kim Duncan him dunk? Correct him? Dunk? How we please?
- 18:47Speaker 1: We agree to the rules. Yeah, so we're gonna give
- 18:49Speaker 1: you a double enoughing here right, double enough, and you'll
- 18:51Speaker 1: get right back in the game. You just have to
- 18:53Speaker 1: answer this one question. One question, and here we go
- 18:56Speaker 1: with Round three Final Category NHL. Right up, Yeah, Ali,
- 19:04Speaker 1: shall we've established a specialty. Can't wait for this one.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Focus in Howie. This past year, as we all know,
- 19:12Speaker 1: Austin Matthews won the Hot Memorial Trophy for Most Valuable Player,
- 19:16Speaker 1: but in nineteen twenty four, the first person to ever
- 19:20Speaker 1: win the award was Frank Nibur. Of course, Howie to
- 19:25Speaker 1: stay alive. What was the name of Frank Nibo's first
- 19:29Speaker 1: professional team, the Wanderers? Oh kind of wandered a little
- 19:37Speaker 1: too far from the Korean answer on that one. You're
- 19:41Speaker 1: kind of in the parking lot there, Tony again. This
- 19:44Speaker 1: won't count toward your total. But do you happen to
- 19:48Speaker 1: know the answer to this one? Of course? So you
- 19:51Speaker 1: talking about the port author bear cats talking about You're
- 19:58Speaker 1: done done, Tony. You have defended your title as the
- 20:02Speaker 1: Sultan of sports trivia. You're almost like your sultan, and Howie,
- 20:08Speaker 1: as you know, that means that at this point in
- 20:10Speaker 1: the show, tough break, how you must turn to Tony
- 20:13Speaker 1: and say these exact words, quote, follow after me. I
- 20:18Speaker 1: bow before you, the true Sultan of sports trivia. Go ahead,
- 20:25Speaker 1: I bow, I bow before you, the true Sultan sports Trivia.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Oh yes, Oh you being sarcastic? How we a little sarcastically?
- 20:37Speaker 1: How wee? I'm gonna need you to do that again
- 20:39Speaker 1: with a little more of you know, honesty in your voice.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Go agree, I said it? Okay? No, No, you didn't.
- 20:46Speaker 1: You didn't mean it. No, you made a sarcasm. I
- 20:48Speaker 1: guess what you can also what sarcasm gets you, because
- 20:52Speaker 1: you gets you off the showrooms showing horror swabbing the death.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Is he off the line? Jay? Hang up the phone.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Since he's not man enough to say it, I'll say it. Congratulations, Tony,
- 21:12Speaker 1: You're truly the Sultan of sports trivia. Thank you. I
- 21:17Speaker 1: swabbed the deck with him. Yeah, and let's not let
