Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: It is time to leave your worries outside and laugh
- 0:10Speaker 1: with us inside the treehouse. I'm Daniel Mallley and he
- 0:14Speaker 1: is tred Trenholm. Hello Daniel, Hello Trefas. It's it's weird
- 0:24Speaker 1: to call you George. I'm sorry, No.
- 0:27Speaker 2: It's funny. Uh my dad that was my dad's nickname
- 0:30Speaker 2: for me, Trafas.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Really yeah, So well, it sounds like you have a
- 0:35Speaker 1: new nickname inside the house. Was it t r e
- 0:38Speaker 1: y f U? S perfect? You are now dubbed Trefus.
- 0:48Speaker 2: All right, so I have run into my first problem
- 0:55Speaker 2: in my new relationship.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yes, I mean, I'm so sorry.
- 1:03Speaker 2: We started talking about movies and TV.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Okay, and I started asking, here.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Have you seen this? Have you seen that? She hadn't
- 1:15Speaker 2: seen shit? Oh?
- 1:18Speaker 1: Is this an age gap issue or is or is
- 1:22Speaker 1: she kind of like Tara, my wife, who's not as
- 1:24Speaker 1: into movies as I am.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I think it's some of both. She's not that much.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I mean, she's ten years younger, so there's some. But
- 1:34Speaker 2: I mean when I say she hadn't no Star Wars,
- 1:42Speaker 2: no Indiana.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Jones, Speaking of which, can I interrupt you for just
- 1:47Speaker 1: a moment?
- 1:47Speaker 2: Uh? Huh?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Are are you trying Are you trying to channel Harrison
- 1:53Speaker 1: Ford because you got this bloody thing on your chin here,
- 1:57Speaker 1: and Harrison Ford famously has a scar on his chin.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Are you trying to do a little cosplay?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I was thinking about this and when I
- 2:08Speaker 2: was shaving, and I just thought, you know what, now,
- 2:11Speaker 2: I was you know, you know how you shave and
- 2:13Speaker 2: then you go back and you're like, you feel like,
- 2:14Speaker 2: oh I missed a spot. Yeah yeah, and I did
- 2:18Speaker 2: that and I slipped and yeah, I uh, I got
- 2:22Speaker 2: a good intention and a half gash on my chin.
- 2:28Speaker 1: So it's bleeding a little bit. That's all. That's all
- 2:33Speaker 1: I noticed. You know what, don't blot it, let it go.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I just want to see how bloody you can get
- 2:38Speaker 1: from the start of the show to the end. So okay, sorry,
- 2:44Speaker 1: sorry I interrupted you. You're on a road.
- 2:46Speaker 2: No, but speaking of Harrison Ford, I then, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 2: said no, Indian, do you know who Jack Ryan is?
- 2:55Speaker 2: And she goes, isn't that the guy from the office?
- 2:58Speaker 3: Oh no, technically yes, I said yes, that you know,
- 3:09Speaker 3: you're you're half right.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Never seen a anything Star Trek, not one episode.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I can't faulter for that one.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I can't either it pains me that, you know, I
- 3:23Speaker 2: can't send her Jean Luke McCard means there, okay.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Like you if you call her number two, she doesn't
- 3:34Speaker 1: quite get it. She gets it like as a bathroom reference,
- 3:37Speaker 1: not as a Star Trek reference.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no, it would be completely lost on a
- 3:42Speaker 2: Star Trek anything. Obviously.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I will say I'm very surprised that she's not seen
- 3:47Speaker 1: as single Star Wars anything, because we're at the point
- 3:49Speaker 1: now with the Star Wars universe. I mean, you've got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
- 3:56Speaker 1: eight nine, as they called tint Pole move, plus the
- 4:01Speaker 1: Rogue one movie, plus all the shows that are out there.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It's almost hard not to see a Star Wars something.
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'm surprised she wasn't at least pulled into the Mandalorian
- 4:12Speaker 1: by Baby Yoda.
- 4:15Speaker 2: No, uh uh okay, but so and then she had
- 4:22Speaker 2: some like Okay, you haven't seen the Godfather. Uh uh
- 4:28Speaker 2: I understand I hadn't seen Lord of the Rings any
- 4:31Speaker 2: of them. She hadn't you seen the Princess Bride. That
- 4:35Speaker 2: one hurt me. Uh oh, now this is this kind
- 4:40Speaker 2: of stumbles into another. Uh another you know, thing is
- 4:46Speaker 2: and it's gonna be very embarrassing for me, because sorry,
- 4:52Speaker 2: she when I ask her about some movies, she's like, oh,
- 4:56Speaker 2: those are emotional. I don't do emotional.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So, uh yeah, that must be so conflicting for you,
- 5:06Speaker 1: because on one hand, that's got to turn you on
- 5:08Speaker 1: a little bit. On the other it feels like you're
- 5:12Speaker 1: little detached from the She's going to be a little
- 5:14Speaker 1: detached from some of the things you actually enjoy.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Well, and it's going to be really embarrassing when Yah,
- 5:22Speaker 2: some movie comes on and I'm crying and she's looking
- 5:25Speaker 2: at me like I'm a pussy.
- 5:30Speaker 1: You mean, like when when Wesley and Buttercup finally make
- 5:34Speaker 1: it work, they finally get reunited.
- 5:37Speaker 2: That there's a I mean, so there's some for instance, uh,
- 5:44Speaker 2: the end the Field of Dreams. I will cry every time.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Sure.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Uh. I asked her about Steel Magnolia's will generally make
- 5:54Speaker 2: me cry, and I was, And I was because she
- 5:58Speaker 2: said she'd like she did like the Old Girls. I'm like, well,
- 6:00Speaker 2: if you like the Golden Girls, how have you not
- 6:02Speaker 2: seen Steel Magnoians? Yeah?
- 6:06Speaker 1: So okay, So she's okay, So she's not seen any
- 6:10Speaker 1: Star Wars, no Indiana Jones, she's not seen Steel Magnolia's
- 6:15Speaker 1: or Princess Bride, but loves Golden Girls. Okay, So where
- 6:20Speaker 1: do the other disconnects come in? As far as the
- 6:21Speaker 1: movies and TV.
- 6:24Speaker 2: She hadn't really seen anything that I've you know, she she,
- 6:30Speaker 2: I can't falter for this because I've done this before.
- 6:32Speaker 2: But like you know, she was just finishing up CSI
- 6:35Speaker 2: New York, which ended ten years ago.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So she's not exactly at the forefront of entertainment.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Uh uh.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Okay. But she's also a listener of our show, so
- 6:49Speaker 1: I also now feel conflicted about her. But she loves hockey, Okay,
- 6:59Speaker 1: all right, she's.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Down to watch football, down to watch hockey. You know.
- 7:04Speaker 2: That's like I said, she doesn't do the emotional stuff.
- 7:07Speaker 2: That's so I feel like I'm gonna be the bitch
- 7:10Speaker 2: in their relationship when it comes to this stuff.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I like how you made that future tense. Yeah, I mean,
- 7:18Speaker 1: because buddy, you already are. Because so far of what
- 7:21Speaker 1: you're telling me about her, I'm noticing a bit of
- 7:23Speaker 1: a pattern in just the last few minutes. Okay, she's
- 7:26Speaker 1: not into emotional stuff. The most recent show she finished
- 7:28Speaker 1: was CSI New York. Okay, and she loves to watch
- 7:33Speaker 1: football and hockey, Trey. You found yourself a violent woman.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that scares me.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And you love it.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, I don't know. We have not
- 7:49Speaker 2: had any conflict, turmoil anything. Everything has been all honky dory.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I know, as you know, just as the sun rises
- 7:59Speaker 2: in the morning, I will eventually piss her off and
- 8:02Speaker 2: she might beat the crap out of me in my sleep.
- 8:07Speaker 2: You know, how do you deal with this stuff? Dan?
- 8:11Speaker 2: You're you're You're been married for fifteen years now, thirteen thirteen.
- 8:17Speaker 1: We'll get back. I'm gonna focus on you for a bit.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Without realizing it, you have described fittingly. Your relationship is
- 8:29Speaker 1: very much Wesley and Buttercup from Princess Bride. The only
- 8:34Speaker 1: problem is your buttercup. Yes, I did try to time that,
- 8:41Speaker 1: just right as you were taking a sip out of
- 8:43Speaker 1: your big gulp hope, and you'd spit that all over
- 8:45Speaker 1: the screen, and you feel like I was this close.
- 8:47Speaker 2: You you you were just of a hair a hair
- 8:52Speaker 2: too quick? Have you delayed just a hair more?
- 8:55Speaker 1: All right? Yeah? So everything you've described, she's the West,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you're the Buttercup. Okay, how do I deal with it?
- 9:02Speaker 1: My relationship? I listen to my wife very early on
- 9:05Speaker 1: in our relationship, because I love movies more than your
- 9:09Speaker 1: average person, right, And she told me early on, she's like, look,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I hate it. I have always hated it when guys
- 9:20Speaker 1: that She's like, previous relationships, there was always movie a
- 9:24Speaker 1: movie or movies that they made me watch and she
- 9:27Speaker 1: hated it. And I don't blame her. If there's something
- 9:30Speaker 1: that you're not really into, you don't want to then
- 9:33Speaker 1: be forced into doing it after you've told somebody I'm
- 9:36Speaker 1: not into this. Like, if I'm not into gardening, the
- 9:40Speaker 1: last thing I want you to do is say, well,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I love gardening so much, I'm going to make you
- 9:44Speaker 1: dig holes and plant stuff to make you like it.
- 9:48Speaker 1: That's not going to work. It's probably going to make
- 9:50Speaker 1: you hate it more. Right. That's just common sense. But
- 9:54Speaker 1: there's something with some of us guys. We have this
- 9:57Speaker 1: problem that once we hear the girls say, oh, you
- 10:01Speaker 1: know what, I don't really I don't care for this thing,
- 10:04Speaker 1: or you know what, I haven't seen this movie and
- 10:06Speaker 1: I don't want to. Well, you're gonna watch it with me.
- 10:07Speaker 1: You're gonna love it. You're gonna love it. I sure
- 10:09Speaker 1: you're gonna love it. Let her be. Yeah, So I
- 10:13Speaker 1: took that what she told me very early on, and
- 10:15Speaker 1: I've never forced a movie on her.
- 10:18Speaker 2: The one movie she loves that we have this in
- 10:20Speaker 2: common because it's in my top three loves the Birdcage.
- 10:23Speaker 2: So there's at least a common ground there. But so
- 10:28Speaker 2: you also led me to something I have been pondering of.
- 10:32Speaker 2: If I were to say, Okay, these are the what
- 10:35Speaker 2: I would consider essential movies to watch.
- 10:44Speaker 1: For everyone or for someone that is going to date you.
- 10:51Speaker 2: More specifically someone if I like it was gonna date me.
- 10:56Speaker 2: These are movies where either you get a little bit
- 10:59Speaker 2: of my sense of humor or I will quote them
- 11:01Speaker 2: or something got it.
- 11:05Speaker 1: And by association, if you happen to watch all these
- 11:08Speaker 1: it'll make you a better person just in general.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Oh and she's never seen The Notebook and has no
- 11:14Speaker 2: desire to.
- 11:14Speaker 1: So that that there win's the wedding. Do you have
- 11:21Speaker 1: a color palette set yet? Do you know where you're honeymooning?
- 11:25Speaker 2: So the only movie she watches every year that around
- 11:28Speaker 2: Christmas time is Sex and the City, and she goes,
- 11:30Speaker 2: you don't have to watch it. I'm like, cool, nice,
- 11:32Speaker 2: I've never seen it.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I have I stopped watching after what she did to Aiden.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I know that's lost on you, but just tell her that.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Does it also? Should it also disturb me that there
- 11:44Speaker 2: were parts of when we were watching ed Geen that
- 11:48Speaker 2: she found some parts of ed Geane sympathetic.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Well, that coupled with the last show she watched was
- 11:57Speaker 1: CSI New York, you may have a problem on your hands.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I mean that is some dangerous groundwork she's laying. Speaking
- 12:06Speaker 1: of laying things, Gacy buried people under his floors. So
- 12:11Speaker 1: if she's really into like floors and things, then you
- 12:14Speaker 1: really need to watch up. Good tip, but your general
- 12:22Speaker 1: fear aside of your new romantic partner. Let's come back
- 12:26Speaker 1: to what you said. Okay, is there an essential list
- 12:29Speaker 1: of films that your significant other needs to see to
- 12:34Speaker 1: fully understand you? Now? Do you mean this to be
- 12:38Speaker 1: like if they haven't seen this film, or that it's
- 12:43Speaker 1: a red flag, or if they have it's a green flag.
- 12:46Speaker 2: You know, I don't know red because I'm not like,
- 12:51Speaker 2: I'm not a You like movies far more than I do,
- 12:55Speaker 2: But like, for instance, I would consider Star Wars the
- 13:01Speaker 2: original Star Wars kind of if I were to put
- 13:04Speaker 2: a list together of required viewing that because that that
- 13:10Speaker 2: story has shaped a lot of our pop culture. Yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 2: probably Raiders of the Lost Arc, something like that. I
- 13:20Speaker 2: would normally put in the bird case she's already seen that.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yeah, now, since you mentioned a bunch of franchise things
- 13:27Speaker 1: that she's not seen, is she a Harry and because
- 13:33Speaker 1: of her age, that makes her a millennial? So is
- 13:35Speaker 1: she a Harry Potter girl?
- 13:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good question. I don't think so. I'
- 13:38Speaker 2: pretty sure she said she hadn't watched any of those, Okay.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I was just curious because the Harry Potter movies are
- 13:44Speaker 1: the millennial Star Wars to us.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and I love those. I mean I think those
- 13:49Speaker 2: were fantastic.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't say that. Probably the analogy is Star
- 13:53Speaker 1: Wars is the gen x, says Harry Potter is, even
- 13:57Speaker 1: though it's the same fucking story.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Anyway, I'm trying to think if there's anything that
- 14:04Speaker 1: would be on my essential watch list for a long time.
- 14:09Speaker 1: One of the movies I would sort of use as
- 14:11Speaker 1: a litmus test is is Bubba Ho Tep. If if
- 14:17Speaker 1: this person likes this movie and this is romantic or
- 14:19Speaker 1: platonic relationships, If this person likes Bubba Ho Tep. Then
- 14:24Speaker 1: we'll get along just fine, because that's a weird movie,
- 14:29Speaker 1: but it's also kind of amazing.
- 14:34Speaker 2: To you.
- 14:36Speaker 3: You don't like Bubba Ho Tep, you know, I'm gonna
- 14:39Speaker 3: I've got to go back.
- 14:41Speaker 2: And watch that. Yeah, I think maybe y'all warm me
- 14:47Speaker 2: out on it before it and it's understandable.
- 14:51Speaker 1: And that's my fault. I introduced it to everyone and
- 14:55Speaker 1: Russ beat it like a dead horse. So my bad.
- 15:00Speaker 1: But I will say it's important. Sometimes you don't have to,
- 15:03Speaker 1: but sometimes it's good to go back and watch a
- 15:06Speaker 1: movie that maybe you didn't connect with before. One of
- 15:08Speaker 1: the best examples I have from that in my life
- 15:10Speaker 1: was when I was in high school. I was the
- 15:12Speaker 1: entertainment editor of our high school newspaper, and nineteen ninety
- 15:16Speaker 1: seven nineteen ninety eight, when I graduated, was a big
- 15:20Speaker 1: year for movies. One of the movies I reviewed at
- 15:23Speaker 1: the time was Swingers. I went to the theater in
- 15:26Speaker 1: South Arlington, I twenty in Little Road to go see Swingers,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and I hated it. I hated it so much I
- 15:32Speaker 1: walked out. I'm like, this movie's stupid. The thing was,
- 15:36Speaker 1: though I watched it as a seventeen year old guy.
- 15:40Speaker 1: When I watched it again a couple of years later,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I loved it. So I just needed a couple of
- 15:45Speaker 1: years more experience and then I could appreciate it for
- 15:48Speaker 1: what it was.
- 15:51Speaker 2: That's kind of like a movie like that. I found
- 15:55Speaker 2: like that was the big chill. My mom, Maybe watch
- 15:58Speaker 2: it when I was a kid, and it's something a
- 16:00Speaker 2: child you don't understand. Then you go back and watching
- 16:04Speaker 2: that as an adult, it's pretty funny.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the big chill, Like describing it to
- 16:08Speaker 1: a kid, it's a bunch of adult If I remember
- 16:10Speaker 1: this correctly, it's a bunch of adults talking in a
- 16:15Speaker 1: house and there's no lightsabers. Yeah, yeah, I'm out. Six
- 16:21Speaker 1: seven year old Danny is not going to be into
- 16:23Speaker 1: that movie. That's the one that they put on at
- 16:26Speaker 1: like nine o'clock and then by nine thirty, I'm asleep
- 16:29Speaker 1: and I'm good.
- 16:32Speaker 2: No exactly, I mean, And now I want, okay bonus
- 16:35Speaker 2: for her. She loves Kevin Smith movie, so that's okay.
- 16:39Speaker 1: See, this is important to keep in mind in a
- 16:41Speaker 1: new relationship. It helps to have balance, right and especially
- 16:45Speaker 1: with your entertainment choices. So she hasn't seen any Star
- 16:48Speaker 1: Wars stuff, but she's into the Kevin Smith movies, so
- 16:53Speaker 1: that's an interesting balance. One, thank goodness for that. Two,
- 16:59Speaker 1: she's not gonna get a lot of those Kevin Smith
- 17:02Speaker 1: jokes because a lot of them are Star Wars bass.
- 17:04Speaker 2: That's true, you know that. That is a very good point.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Maybe seeing Star Wars, well, she'll find even Kevin Smith
- 17:11Speaker 2: Jay and she loves Jan Silent Bob. She'll probably find
- 17:13Speaker 2: them a lot funnier.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Has she seen Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? Yes,
- 17:18Speaker 1: then how has she not seen Star Wars.
- 17:21Speaker 2: That's a good question. I hadn't even real.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Sentral watching for Jay and Silent Bob strike Back, not
- 17:27Speaker 1: just for the name of the movie, but also for
- 17:30Speaker 1: the fact that the villain in Jay and Silent Bob
- 17:33Speaker 1: strike Back is Mark Hambill.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I totally forgot about that. You're right, who.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Plays cock Knocker, which is just a bit of a
- 17:46Speaker 1: stretch away from his film debut as young Luke Skywalker
- 17:52Speaker 1: in Star Wars. I mean, think about that. It's like,
- 17:55Speaker 1: I mean, the first film he ever made, if I
- 17:59Speaker 1: remember right, first film, well, Mark Hamill ever made. He's
- 18:01Speaker 1: Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Fast forward about thirty years
- 18:04Speaker 1: or so into Jay and Silent Bob's drive back and
- 18:07Speaker 1: he portrays cock Knocker and I believe he actually pulled
- 18:12Speaker 1: out a lightsaber and they had the little joke in
- 18:14Speaker 1: there saying we're gonna get sued by Lucas. But anyway,
- 18:18Speaker 1: so I'm fascinated by that. Ask her how it is
- 18:20Speaker 1: she can understand so many of those references, like how
- 18:23Speaker 1: she can watch the films, watch the Kevin Smith movies
- 18:26Speaker 1: and not understand where some of those jokes come from.
- 18:31Speaker 2: All right, I'll put that on a note.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Which it's also, hey, baby, I got something exciting planned
- 18:42Speaker 1: for us tonight. Dan gave us homework.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Yeah, uh so you sent me something the day about that.
- 18:52Speaker 2: They're they're making a Grimlins three. Yes, all right, so,
- 19:01Speaker 2: which kind of led me down a rabbit hole of
- 19:05Speaker 2: sequels that are that are they're at least in discussions
- 19:08Speaker 2: about okay, and I'm I feel like since Top Gun
- 19:15Speaker 2: came out the Maverick, they've kind of looked at every
- 19:20Speaker 2: eighties franchise and going, you know, can we can we
- 19:22Speaker 2: get something out of it?
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 19:24Speaker 2: Eighties nineties.
- 19:27Speaker 1: That now, they they were doing it before Top Gun
- 19:31Speaker 1: Maverick trying to reboot anything and everything they could, But
- 19:34Speaker 1: I think the difference was they saw if you do
- 19:36Speaker 1: it really well as opposed to doing it for the
- 19:39Speaker 1: sake of doing it, it can breathe whole new life
- 19:42Speaker 1: into the franchise and not just be a quick money grab.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, but then I look at some of the lists
- 19:48Speaker 2: and then you're like, all right, but is there ever
- 19:52Speaker 2: a desire? Like do you feel like there's a desire
- 19:55Speaker 2: for an Austin Powers four?
- 20:02Speaker 1: Sometimes we don't know what we want until we want it, right.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Sometimes we don't know what to eat until we go
- 20:09Speaker 1: someplace and see it on the menu. Like I never
- 20:10Speaker 1: would have thought about, let's say, a short rib ragout,
- 20:14Speaker 1: but I go to our restaurant and I see it
- 20:16Speaker 1: and like, that sounds good, I'll have some. Then I
- 20:18Speaker 1: love it. Okay, I didn't realize I needed it. So
- 20:23Speaker 1: there's a little bit of that aspect. But I'm but
- 20:28Speaker 1: I'm with you. Sometimes you hear about something, you're like,
- 20:32Speaker 1: h I don't think we really need that.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I mean, do you feel like, did you see Mortal
- 20:42Speaker 2: Kombat the newest one? All right?
- 20:46Speaker 1: When you say the newest one, you mean the newest
- 20:48Speaker 1: one that came out or the newest movie that rebooted
- 20:50Speaker 1: the previous two.
- 20:52Speaker 2: The newest one that rebooted the previous Yeah, the one
- 20:56Speaker 2: with Carl Urban. How about that? Yes?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes I did. I enjoyed it very much.
- 21:00Speaker 1: It was a wonderful airplane movie.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I mean, do you feel like there's a need for
- 21:05Speaker 2: Mortal Kombat too?
- 21:07Speaker 1: No, there's barely it. There wasn't a need for that one.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I mean, but I will say the two things that
- 21:16Speaker 1: interested me about that new Mortal Kombat movie was Carl
- 21:21Speaker 1: Urban and I always forget his name, but the Japanese
- 21:25Speaker 1: actor who played I think it was sub Zero, who
- 21:28Speaker 1: is also the star of the Showgun mini series. I
- 21:31Speaker 1: love him as an actor. I think he's phenomenal. Those
- 21:33Speaker 1: two people right there had me interested in watching the movie.
- 21:36Speaker 1: The action was outstanding, so I enjoyed it. But on
- 21:40Speaker 1: the front end I would have been like, no, like
- 21:42Speaker 1: I just said, here, we don't need it.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I mean, like we all agree we need Spaceballs two?
- 21:49Speaker 1: That is needed. Yes, we need Spaceballs too. I mean,
- 21:52Speaker 1: do you feel my life My life will not be
- 21:54Speaker 1: complete until I've seen Spaceball's two.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Do you feel the need for Sister Act three?
- 22:00Speaker 1: No? I didn't. I didn't want or need Sister Act
- 22:03Speaker 1: two back in the habit, and I hate my soulf
- 22:05Speaker 1: for knowing the full title of that film.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Has has been Has there been anything in your soul
- 22:10Speaker 2: that desires another RoboCop movie?
- 22:14Speaker 1: No? Well that's because, honestly, thinking back to the original,
- 22:18Speaker 1: it's so good and uncomfortable with certain stuff, you really
- 22:22Speaker 1: didn't need the sequels that came after it, and certainly
- 22:25Speaker 1: didn't need a reboot. I will say, though, that the
- 22:29Speaker 1: rebooted movie with Joel Kinneman as as Murphy as RoboCop
- 22:36Speaker 1: was so ridiculous. It was actually comical because they showed
- 22:40Speaker 1: what was left of his body after an explosion. It's
- 22:43Speaker 1: like his it's like his eyes, the esophagus and like
- 22:46Speaker 1: his pancreas or something. And that was it.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Well, and by let me preface also, some of these movies,
- 22:52Speaker 2: some of them I can understand, but they're talking about
- 22:55Speaker 2: bringing like Sister Act three, they're talking about with Whoopi Goldberg,
- 23:00Speaker 2: you know, Leath a Weapon five with Mel Gibson and Danny.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Glover, which can we just say that Detective Myrtaw was
- 23:12Speaker 1: too old for this shit in nineteen eighty nine, right,
- 23:17Speaker 1: it's twenty twenty five, like they're talking.
- 23:20Speaker 2: So they're making another Lord of the Rings movie, and
- 23:23Speaker 2: it's like The Hunt for Gollum and it basically takes
- 23:28Speaker 2: place in between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Yeah. See, I'm not big on those. I'm real sketchy
- 23:35Speaker 1: when it comes to the prequels because sometimes to me,
- 23:37Speaker 1: they seem like a waste of time. If you already
- 23:40Speaker 1: know what the ultimate ending is, then the stuff that
- 23:44Speaker 1: they put out before it is just sort of a
- 23:46Speaker 1: filler thing. Because it's not that it doesn't matter. I'm
- 23:49Speaker 1: just not going to be as interested because what they
- 23:51Speaker 1: do doesn't have the ultimate implications of the previous of
- 23:57Speaker 1: the previous installment, Right, Like.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I understood why they made the Lord of the Rings
- 24:03Speaker 2: over the Hobbit, because I mean, if you were going
- 24:04Speaker 2: to do it sequentially, you would do the Hobbit books
- 24:06Speaker 2: and then Lord of the Rings. But the Hobbit is
- 24:11Speaker 2: basically centered around one character and there's not a lot
- 24:14Speaker 2: of others where the Lord of the Rings. It just
- 24:16Speaker 2: the books themselves lead for more epic you know, I
- 24:20Speaker 2: understood they lend themselves to a far more epic tale.
- 24:23Speaker 2: But but here's my problem. So I don't. But they're
- 24:26Speaker 2: bringing back Ann McKellen and Elijah Woods for this movie,
- 24:29Speaker 2: which is a prequel to Lord of the Rings. How
- 24:32Speaker 2: are you going to do that?
- 24:33Speaker 1: The aging, it's a lot of cgi. Basically, both actors
- 24:38Speaker 1: are just going to be in green suits the entire time.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, here's one for you.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Because Ian McKellen's going to keep doing this role until
- 24:49Speaker 1: he's ganned off the dead.
- 24:52Speaker 2: He was, he was fairly old. I mean those movies,
- 24:56Speaker 2: the first one came out in what two thousand and one,
- 25:00Speaker 2: five years ago basically, and he was kind of old then.
- 25:03Speaker 2: I mean, if you ever seen you ever seen the
- 25:04Speaker 2: videos he and Patrick Stewart make, they're they're up there.
- 25:10Speaker 2: But so here's another one, okay, with a lot of
- 25:13Speaker 2: the original cast returning. Young Guns three.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I'm here for it. I am absolutely here for it.
- 25:27Speaker 2: But but but but I mean, what don't we need,
- 25:30Speaker 2: you know, kind of middle aged guns.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Yes, old muskets with old ass bon jovie. Yes, because
- 25:39Speaker 1: because the Young Guns franchise two movies, But the Young
- 25:44Speaker 1: Guns franchise is popular to me in my heart because
- 25:50Speaker 1: to me, Young Guns two and Young Guns one falls
- 25:55Speaker 1: into a very small category of films where the sequel
- 25:59Speaker 1: I think is better than the original. I agree with
- 26:03Speaker 1: you there. Young Guns two was to me better than
- 26:06Speaker 1: Young Guns one, the way that most people say Godfather
- 26:09Speaker 1: to was better than One. Empire was better than you know,
- 26:13Speaker 1: a New Hope type of stuff. So Young Guns two
- 26:16Speaker 1: was so good. I'm excited. I'm actually excited for a
- 26:19Speaker 1: Young Guns three. I'm also excited to see Emilio Estevez working. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 1: and Lou Diamond Phillips, especially Lou Diamond Phillips. Yes, you
- 26:31Speaker 1: fellow move and mav from the University of Texas Arlington.
- 26:36Speaker 2: But they're not.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Needed.
- 26:44Speaker 2: They're not young.
- 26:47Speaker 1: So it's old guns. That's fine, lean into it. Lean
- 26:51Speaker 1: into old guns. You're not young guns anymore. You can't
- 26:54Speaker 1: dage everything, right. So if you bring back the original cast,
- 26:58Speaker 1: now they're older, So now it's old guns. It's like
- 27:02Speaker 1: what you know. I would look at it this way,
- 27:04Speaker 1: walk into a Hollywood producer's office and say, here's what
- 27:06Speaker 1: we're gonna do. We're gonna make young guns and grumpy
- 27:10Speaker 1: old men. Put them together, and you got grumpier old guns.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I'm here for it. I mean, or older guns, bucket list,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I mean whatever, I mean what Willy the Kid has
- 27:31Speaker 1: to cut like Billy the kid has to come to
- 27:32Speaker 1: terms with electricity.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I mean, Billy the Kid. You might as well make
- 27:41Speaker 2: shakiest gun in the West two. That's what it's gonna
- 27:46Speaker 2: look like when they draw their guns.
- 27:51Speaker 1: That's a mashup I would watch. So I'm here for it.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Look at it this way, Trey. It may not be needed,
- 27:56Speaker 1: but I'm gonna want it if you put it out.
- 27:58Speaker 2: There, all right, if they'll stick don Natson there you
- 28:02Speaker 2: know fine?
- 28:03Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, Regulators and the Apple Dumpling Gang, the hit
- 28:12Speaker 1: the new hit song rights itself.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Yea, maybe, mister Furley, Sure.
