- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter twenty six, Pinocchio goes to the sea shore with
- 0:03Speaker 1: his friends to see the terrible shark. In the morning,
- 0:08Speaker 1: right and early, Pinocchio started for school. Imagine what the
- 0:12Speaker 1: boy said when they saw a MarioNet enter the classroom.
- 0:16Speaker 1: They laughed until they cried. Everyone played tricks on him.
- 0:20Speaker 1: One pulled his hat off, another tugged at his coat,
- 0:24Speaker 1: A third tried to paint a mustache under his nose.
- 0:27Speaker 1: One even attempted to tie strength to his feet in
- 0:30Speaker 1: his hands to make him dance. For a while, Pinocchio
- 0:34Speaker 1: was very calm and quiet. Finally, however, he lost all patience,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and turning to his tormentors, he said to them threateningly,
- 0:43Speaker 1: careful boys, I haven't come here to be made fine of.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I'll respect you, and I want you to respect me.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Hurray for doctor. Knowall you have spoken like a printed book,
- 0:53Speaker 1: howled the boys, bursting with laughter. One of them, more
- 0:57Speaker 1: impudent than the rest, put out his hand to pull
- 0:59Speaker 1: the marinet's nose. But he was not quick enough, for
- 1:03Speaker 1: Pinocchio stretched his leg under the table and kicked him
- 1:06Speaker 1: hard on the shin. Oh what hard feet, cried the boy,
- 1:09Speaker 1: rubbing the spot where the marinet had kicked him, and
- 1:11Speaker 1: but elbows they are even harder than the feet, shouted
- 1:15Speaker 1: another one, who because of some other trick, had received
- 1:18Speaker 1: a blow in the stomach. With that cake, and that blow,
- 1:21Speaker 1: Pinocchio gained everybody's favor. Everyone admired him. Then's attendance upon
- 1:27Speaker 1: him petty didn caressed him. As the days passed in
- 1:31Speaker 1: two weeks, even the teacher praised him, for he saw
- 1:34Speaker 1: him attentive, hard working, and wide awake, always the first
- 1:37Speaker 1: to come in the morning and the last leave when
- 1:39Speaker 1: school was over. Pinocchio's only fault was that he had
- 1:43Speaker 1: too many friends. Among these were many well known rascals
- 1:47Speaker 1: who cared not a jot for study or for success.
- 1:51Speaker 1: The teacher warned him each day, and even the good
- 1:54Speaker 1: Fairy repeated to him many times. Take care, Pinocchio. Those
- 1:58Speaker 1: bad companions will sooner or later make you lose your
- 2:01Speaker 1: love for study. Some day they will lead you astray.
- 2:06Speaker 1: There's no such danger, answered the Marionett, shrugging his shoulders
- 2:09Speaker 1: and pointing to his forehead as if to say, I'm
- 2:11Speaker 1: too wise. So it happened that one day, as he
- 2:16Speaker 1: was walking to school, he met some boys who ran
- 2:18Speaker 1: up to him and said, have you heard the news? No,
- 2:23Speaker 1: a shark as big as a mountain has been seen
- 2:25Speaker 1: near the shore. Really, I wonder if it could be
- 2:29Speaker 1: the same one I heard of when my father was drowned.
- 2:32Speaker 1: We are going to see it, are you coming? No? Not,
- 2:35Speaker 1: I I must go to school. What do you care
- 2:39Speaker 1: about school? You can go there tomorrow with a lesson
- 2:42Speaker 1: more or less. We are always the same donkeys. And
- 2:47Speaker 1: what will the teachers say? Let him talk? He is
- 2:50Speaker 1: paid to grumble all day long. And my mother mothers
- 2:54Speaker 1: don't know anything, answered those camps. Do you know what
- 2:58Speaker 1: I'll do, said Pinocchio, for certain reasons of mine. I
- 3:01Speaker 1: too want to see that chart, But i'll go after school.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I can see him then as well as now. Poor simpleton,
- 3:10Speaker 1: cried one of the boys. Do you think that a
- 3:12Speaker 1: fish of that size will stand there waiting for you?
- 3:15Speaker 1: He turns, and off he goes, and no one will
- 3:17Speaker 1: ever be the wiser. How long does it take from
- 3:21Speaker 1: here to the shore, asked the marionette. One hour there
- 3:25Speaker 1: and back. Very well, then let's see who gets there first,
- 3:29Speaker 1: cried Pinocchio. At the signal, the little troop, with bugs
- 3:33Speaker 1: under their arms, dashed across the fields, Pinocchio led away,
- 3:37Speaker 1: running as upon wings, the others following as fast as
- 3:40Speaker 1: they could. Now and again he looked back, and, seeing
- 3:44Speaker 1: his followers hot and tired, and with tongues hanging out,
- 3:47Speaker 1: he laughed out heartily. Unhappy boy, if he had only
- 3:52Speaker 1: known then the dreadful things that were to happen to
- 3:54Speaker 1: him on account of his disobedience. End of Chapter twenty
