- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with our radio. Hello. Everyone, welcome to the Almost Famous Podcast.
- 0:09Speaker 1: It's Ashley and it's me. It's been I'm here, yeah, yeah,
- 0:14Speaker 1: And we are basically throwing a big podcast party in
- 0:19Speaker 1: anticipation of the July eleven premiere of The Bachelorette. Today,
- 0:25Speaker 1: we have two very special guests that we can't wait
- 0:27Speaker 1: to catch up with. It's Susie and Clayton. We have
- 0:32Speaker 1: so many podcasts. This is awesome. We are pumped this season.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I feel like it was a long break, Ashley. Is
- 0:39Speaker 1: it just me? Or does it feel like the break
- 0:43Speaker 1: has been longer than usual? Is that like true? Well, Ben,
- 0:47Speaker 1: the break has been longer than usual, for sure. However,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I feel like it's flown by because we've had a
- 0:55Speaker 1: lot of fun. That's because I'm a mom, well, and
- 0:58Speaker 1: every day goes so fat, and we've had a lot
- 1:01Speaker 1: of fun here on the podcast. All Right, Hey, it's time, Ashley.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We're continuing the party. Let's bring him in. As I
- 1:17Speaker 1: mentioned just a second ago, we have Clayton in sus
- 1:20Speaker 1: You call her sus Clayton. What's gonna throw me off?
- 1:22Speaker 1: Is it Susie or Suz. What should we call you?
- 1:26Speaker 1: You can call me whatever. Clayan does call me Sues.
- 1:28Speaker 1: A lot of my friends call me Sues. But I
- 1:30Speaker 1: mean I would introduce myself as Susie. Okay, I have
- 1:33Speaker 1: an aunt Sues, and I just can't do it, Like
- 1:35Speaker 1: I can't call you Sues, and it just every time
- 1:38Speaker 1: it's gonna throw me off. Hey, just to give you
- 1:41Speaker 1: if they're out of breath, as expected, they're working out
- 1:44Speaker 1: when we tapped in, which is not shocking, um at all.
- 1:49Speaker 1: It feels very on brand. Thank you for explaining that
- 1:52Speaker 1: we weren't watching cops. Um. Well, first big question for
- 2:00Speaker 1: you guys is how is life in Virginia Beach because
- 2:04Speaker 1: Clayton made the big move to Susie's hometown. It's good.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I feel like we're not there that much because we've
- 2:11Speaker 1: been just traveling so much. And um, we're going back
- 2:15Speaker 1: to Missouri and like literally a day we're gonna go
- 2:18Speaker 1: see a Stanley for the fourth Um, we're gonna hang
- 2:21Speaker 1: out there for a while. So we're pretty mobile right now.
- 2:24Speaker 1: But it's been fun. Um lots of seafood. Yeah, it's
- 2:28Speaker 1: being my beach is very relaxing. Remember, you need to
- 2:32Speaker 1: just take a breather. You can just go down to
- 2:33Speaker 1: the boardwalk. And I've been eating a ton of crab cakes.
- 2:36Speaker 1: That's been like every third meal. I've just been putting
- 2:39Speaker 1: crab on my burgers. I didn't, I mean, they put
- 2:41Speaker 1: it on everything in Virginia b So it's been a
- 2:44Speaker 1: different cuisine and I've enjoyed that. Um. It's just yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 1: far cry from Missouri, which is what I was used
- 2:50Speaker 1: to the majority of my life. You know, Clat, I
- 2:52Speaker 1: have to ask you, Uh, you're a good looking guy.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You're big, you're strong, you're athletic. I know Virginia Beach
- 3:01Speaker 1: is full of Navy seals because my wife's best friend's
- 3:06Speaker 1: husband is a Navy seal and they live in Virginia Beach.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Are you ever intimidated? Do you ever? Do you ever
- 3:12Speaker 1: try to show them up? Um? And if so, can you? So?
- 3:17Speaker 1: I figured the best thing to do instead of be
- 3:20Speaker 1: the outcast was to fit in. And so that's why
- 3:22Speaker 1: I grew a mustache, because that's uh, that's like every
- 3:26Speaker 1: other guy has a mustache. And with top gun the
- 3:30Speaker 1: conversation starter. Really, honestly, I've been able to just work
- 3:34Speaker 1: my way right in. They're like, oh, you must watch
- 3:36Speaker 1: the watch top. Gun have not, but but I surely
- 3:39Speaker 1: want to, so uh fitting end zazy. And you know
- 3:42Speaker 1: I don't like to avoid all conflicts, so we're choosing
- 3:45Speaker 1: that route that's good to avoid conflict. Navy seals smart, Vivie. Yes,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure they learned like a hundred ways to
- 3:51Speaker 1: kill somebody, so I'm not trying to be one of
- 3:53Speaker 1: those those ways. Let's let's not conflict though, between you guys.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And it comes to moving in together, like each of
- 4:02Speaker 1: you give me the thing that has been the most
- 4:05Speaker 1: annoying about sharing a space. Oh what do you want
- 4:12Speaker 1: to pull out your list? You know what you'll say, Wait,
- 4:15Speaker 1: what am I going to say? I have to be
- 4:17Speaker 1: like my beard hairs? Oh yeah, the shaving the beard
- 4:20Speaker 1: in the sink and so gross. I know. I'm like,
- 4:24Speaker 1: do you have to get you have to have to
- 4:26Speaker 1: do it. Get the thoroughly clean after that experience, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: you do give it a wipe down. But I'm like,
- 4:32Speaker 1: we need to be more thorough in the toilet seat.
- 4:34Speaker 1: We're working on it. She has our retainers on the
- 4:37Speaker 1: countertop were in a container case, but it was propped
- 4:40Speaker 1: up in one day. She said. She got a like
- 4:42Speaker 1: a beard hair when she put it in her mouth.
- 4:47Speaker 1: She told me, she's like, you need to do a
- 4:49Speaker 1: better job of cleaning this off. I was like, I
- 4:51Speaker 1: didn't know what snuck its way in there. I was like,
- 4:53Speaker 1: maybe we should close the case. I have a gift
- 4:56Speaker 1: you guys need to give each other mutually. There's this
- 5:00Speaker 1: beer trimmer like canopy. Have you seen it on Amazon? Yes?
- 5:04Speaker 1: So you stick it to the mirror and then you
- 5:06Speaker 1: tie it around his neck so everything is caught. That
- 5:11Speaker 1: sounds like that's that that really like? It sounds like
- 5:13Speaker 1: one of those what they put on dogs animals when
- 5:15Speaker 1: they should It looks like a shame, but it sounds
- 5:21Speaker 1: like But since they're teaming up on you, Clayton, I mean,
- 5:25Speaker 1: I have one that I want to ask you if
- 5:26Speaker 1: sus does here, Uh does she ever take her hair
- 5:30Speaker 1: and sticking on the shower like wall like in clumps
- 5:33Speaker 1: to where it's like growing out of the wall. Because
- 5:35Speaker 1: that that gross me out more than anything. Yeah, every time,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and then that's where I again it's I try not
- 5:41Speaker 1: to be the one to bring it send it back
- 5:43Speaker 1: her way. But I was like, okay, you know, speaking
- 5:45Speaker 1: of hair, I have to turn around and see a
- 5:48Speaker 1: giant bushel of it every time I got shower, every
- 5:51Speaker 1: time I pretty much to clean it up it almost
- 5:53Speaker 1: every time, but the occasional time it has been left
- 5:57Speaker 1: in this show. Her response was, well, maybe you shouldn't
- 6:00Speaker 1: stress me out so much. That's why it's good. Oh
- 6:07Speaker 1: my gosh, that's so funny. Why hair off of our
- 6:10Speaker 1: body is so disgusting. She guys get bothered by like
- 6:16Speaker 1: our hair of hers will fall out and I'll pick
- 6:18Speaker 1: it up and I'll put it back on her head
- 6:19Speaker 1: and she's like, dude, don't do that. I'm like, it's
- 6:22Speaker 1: just your hair. It just literally just fell out. I'm
- 6:25Speaker 1: putting it. But you know, it's just messed me being
- 6:27Speaker 1: stupid so and annoying like I like to do every
- 6:29Speaker 1: so often. So I guess I deserve it, but I
- 6:32Speaker 1: don't know. Yeah, this is weird. It's not. It's not
- 6:34Speaker 1: weird until it becomes untill it leaves your body. It's
- 6:36Speaker 1: the side of a good relationship. Is this element it?
- 6:40Speaker 1: Trust me? I mean, I've been living with my wife
- 6:42Speaker 1: now for six months and the only way we make
- 6:45Speaker 1: it through every day is by joking about this stuff
- 6:47Speaker 1: with each other, especially until you get used to it
- 6:49Speaker 1: and it's expected. Uh, now, you just talked about your
- 6:53Speaker 1: hair falling out in a joking way. But Ashley no
- 6:56Speaker 1: I and a lot of the listeners know from listening
- 6:57Speaker 1: to this podcast that coming off the Bachelor, being on
- 7:00Speaker 1: the Bachelor is an extremely stressful season of life. It's
- 7:04Speaker 1: a great season of life. It's a lot of fun,
- 7:06Speaker 1: there's great new opportunities, life kind of changes, but it's stressful.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Are you at a place now Maybe I should just
- 7:13Speaker 1: ask it this way, Where are you at now in
- 7:15Speaker 1: that journey? Do you feel back to normal? Do you
- 7:17Speaker 1: feel like that season is starting to become more peaceful?
- 7:20Speaker 1: Are you still in it kind of swirling around trying
- 7:23Speaker 1: to get your head on straight? Probably all of the
- 7:26Speaker 1: above to that. Like there's days where everything feels very
- 7:30Speaker 1: normal and healthy and um yeah, like we're thriving with
- 7:36Speaker 1: each other and individually, and then there's days that are
- 7:38Speaker 1: really complicated, um, both personally and together. I think, um
- 7:44Speaker 1: more so than I think it would have been yet
- 7:46Speaker 1: had we not gone on the show or like started
- 7:48Speaker 1: a relationship from the show. So um, yeah, it just
- 7:53Speaker 1: depends on the day. I think the one thing that
- 7:56Speaker 1: we've learned is that like, no matter what, we love
- 8:01Speaker 1: each other so much, um, and we're here to help
- 8:04Speaker 1: each other in that in this season, whether that's within
- 8:08Speaker 1: the relationship or individually as we need it UM. And
- 8:12Speaker 1: that doesn't always it's not always very clear what we're
- 8:15Speaker 1: needing in the moment or what we're experiencing, like the
- 8:18Speaker 1: feelings or the um the stress and things like that.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Like sometimes it's not super clear why we're feeling the
- 8:23Speaker 1: way we're feeling or what we're going through. But I
- 8:25Speaker 1: think we've had a lot of really good conversations, and
- 8:29Speaker 1: every conversation ultimately has helped us navigate to a better
- 8:34Speaker 1: place of understanding ourselves in each other. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 8:38Speaker 1: think it comes in waves. There's really good days and
- 8:41Speaker 1: there's really bad days. I think that though, is I
- 8:45Speaker 1: would say, fairly standard for relationship. I think obviously we
- 8:48Speaker 1: went through some unforeseen circumstances and very unique We were
- 8:52Speaker 1: in some very unique spots, and so because of that,
- 8:54Speaker 1: it's been really challenging sometimes because we really can't turn
- 8:58Speaker 1: to family and friends because they just don't really understand.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I mean they want to, but we obviously live through
- 9:05Speaker 1: what we live through, and that makes it tough sometimes
- 9:07Speaker 1: when you feel that you want to go get advice
- 9:10Speaker 1: from somewhere else, but you realize that they have a
- 9:12Speaker 1: sliver of the story. And so at the end of
- 9:14Speaker 1: the day, we're really the only two that can work
- 9:17Speaker 1: through this um And yeah, there's people that that I
- 9:20Speaker 1: went through it besides us, and that's great. We like
- 9:22Speaker 1: to I I found a lot of value and talking
- 9:24Speaker 1: to others that I went through the same experience, and
- 9:27Speaker 1: it helps kind of calm our nerves, I think when
- 9:29Speaker 1: we do so. But but yeah, it's been it's a lot.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I think you try to start any relationship after going
- 9:35Speaker 1: through all of that, and it's it's just kind of wild.
- 9:38Speaker 1: You're just like, what what has what has happened? Where
- 9:41Speaker 1: do we go from here? And over communications that the
- 9:44Speaker 1: most critical aspect of it all. I think when you
- 9:48Speaker 1: guys do have your hard days your arguments, do you
- 9:51Speaker 1: usually find yourself reverting back to the end of your
- 9:54Speaker 1: season Clinton and the drama that went down there, or
- 9:57Speaker 1: do you find that the arguments are totally unrelated. Because
- 10:01Speaker 1: I'll be honest, from my point of view, even like
- 10:03Speaker 1: years after when Jared and I got together, the first
- 10:06Speaker 1: like six months whenever there was like a little argument.
- 10:09Speaker 1: It usually had to do with what happened years ago.
- 10:11Speaker 1: We're totally totally over that now, but when we first
- 10:14Speaker 1: got together, Yeah, yeah, I would say thousand percent. I
- 10:19Speaker 1: think there's so many feelings attached to what the show was. Uh.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And so when we get upset about something, I think
- 10:27Speaker 1: it's just just important for everybody to realize that oftentimes
- 10:30Speaker 1: those feelings are attached to something deeper. It's not it's
- 10:34Speaker 1: not you know, you put the toilet paper on wrong,
- 10:36Speaker 1: so I'm gonna blow up on you. It's put the
- 10:38Speaker 1: toilet paper on wrong, but I'm annoyed at something that
- 10:40Speaker 1: you did a few months ago that I just happened
- 10:43Speaker 1: to like upset me because I was thinking about it earlier.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Uh So I always I do feel that. Yeah, there's
- 10:49Speaker 1: I'm sure we're not feeling ones as others that have
- 10:51Speaker 1: went through it. And there was so many strong emotions
- 10:54Speaker 1: from the show. And it's been a long period of healing.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Uh and I still have days or I don't feel
- 11:00Speaker 1: like I'm fully healed. And so, yeah, when something little happens,
- 11:05Speaker 1: it can magnify because you are subconsciously thinking about something
- 11:09Speaker 1: that happened prior that you promised you would move beyond.
- 11:14Speaker 1: But you can say that, but it's it's you can
- 11:16Speaker 1: say you're gonna move on, but it to actually do it,
- 11:18Speaker 1: it just takes time. And I think that's where it's
- 11:20Speaker 1: what's the right amount of time? I don't know. Well,
- 11:23Speaker 1: it's awesome having Clayton and Susie with us. What a
- 11:27Speaker 1: celebration leading up to this season of the Bachelorette. This
- 11:30Speaker 1: is gonna be a two part episode, so this was
- 11:32Speaker 1: part one. Tune in for part two that will be
- 11:35Speaker 1: up soon. But until then, I've been been, I've been Ashley,
- 11:39Speaker 1: see you soon. Followed the Benn and Ashley I Almost
