- 1:01It's going to ruin it all night. So we also have,
- 1:06surprisingly together, we have Kristen Bingaman
- 1:08and Shelly Sangry. How are you guys today? Great
- 1:12and good. Glad to have you guys here. Karen Rogers
- 1:16and yet another sound. That was my watch. Did
- 1:18you guys hear that? So unbelievable. So I need
- 1:22to be more prepared, don't I? Karen, how are
- 1:26you tonight? I'm fine. Great. We do not have
- 1:30Karen and Eric O'Shea tonight. They have something
- 1:34going on down in Fort Worth, Texas. And so they
- 1:38did request some prayer for them. And let's,
- 1:43let's just do this. Let's just hop right into
- 1:45it because there's a lot in Acts chapter one
- 1:48that I want to cover. And so let's see, Shelley,
- 1:53would you be willing to open us up in prayer?
- 1:55Sure. Okay, great. Father, I thank you so much
- 2:00for this day. I thank you for your word and I
- 2:03thank you for this group of people that we are
- 2:06able to come together and to study the scriptures
- 2:09together. I pray that our conversation tonight
- 2:12will be pleasing to you. I pray that you will
- 2:15grant us discernment as we are studying your
- 2:18word. And I pray for Eric and Karen in Texas
- 2:21today. I just pray that you would bring the peace
- 2:24that only you can bring and that they would feel
- 2:27your presence there and that they would remember
- 2:30that you are in control of all things. And I
- 2:33pray these things in Jesus name. Amen. Amen.
- 2:37Thank you so much. So guys, this screen that
- 2:40you're looking at, we're just messing around.
- 2:41I'm messing around with zoom. This is the Mount
- 2:43of Olives that we're looking at and what we're
- 2:46going to be getting into action. Well, there
- 2:47is Adrian. Oh, jeez. Have you got your screen
- 2:51blurred by any chance, Danny? I don't know. Yeah,
- 2:57it doesn't matter. Let me just take us out of
- 2:59this immersive view. Now we're back to what we
- 3:02were before. I don't know if I like it. I don't
- 3:06know if I like it. It's so weird. I got to go
- 3:10to the Mount of Olives for once. You were there
- 3:13for a hot second, weren't you? Quick plane ride.
- 3:18Yeah, so anyway last week we were talking about
- 3:22we ended on Those two men that were there on
- 3:27the Mount of Olives and I remember Eric had said
- 3:29he wanted to talk more about it Did anybody look
- 3:31into anything this week any further? I know Karen
- 3:34and I have had a couple of conversations About
- 3:37these two witnesses with these two men. Is there
- 3:39anything further you think we need to cover that
- 3:42we didn't cover last time? I wanted to say that
- 3:46when I was telling my friend Annie Gilman about
- 3:49our study, she hadn't seen it or anything, she
- 3:51jumped right in and talked about the cherubim.
- 3:53And I said, it's funny you say that because that's
- 3:55what Danny said. Yeah, right on there. That was
- 3:58definitely confirmation. I think there's a lot
- 4:01to it. That was good. And then Karen, you and
- 4:05I were talking about how in the tomb that there
- 4:07were two men, one at the head where Jesus's head
- 4:10would be and one at his feet. And we started
- 4:12thinking about the cherubim angels that were
- 4:14on the mercy seat at the head and at the foot,
- 4:17you know, like looking over the mercy seat. So
- 4:18that was just something that came to mind too,
- 4:21in regard to the two. That's good. That's good.
- 4:24There's a lot of twos in this, you know, in these
- 4:27texts here. So Does anybody have anybody willing
- 4:32to read some of the Bible here? We're going to
- 4:34move on from the two witnesses. If anything else
- 4:37comes up, guys, just jump in and let's go with
- 4:38it. But I wanted to read further into this. So
- 4:44starting with verse 12, where they begin to replace
- 4:53Judas, is anybody willing to read verse 12 through,
- 4:58honestly, through the rest of the chapter? So
- 5:00that goes to 26, so that's quite a few verses,
- 5:0314 verses. Sure, I'll read it. All right. I'm
- 5:08in the NAS, so. Okay, perfect. Then they returned
- 5:13to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which
- 5:16is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day journey away.
- 5:19When they had entered the city, they went up
- 5:21to the upper room where they were staying. That
- 5:24is, Peter and John and James, Andrew, Philip,
- 5:28and Thomas Bartholomew. Matthew, James the son
- 5:32of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot and Judas the
- 5:36son of James. These all with one mind were continually
- 5:40devoting themselves to prayer along with the
- 5:43women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his
- 5:46brothers. At this time Peter stood up in the
- 5:49midst of the brethren. A gathering of about 120
- 5:53persons was there together and said, Brethren,
- 5:57the scripture had to be fulfilled. which the
- 6:00Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning
- 6:03Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested
- 6:06Jesus. For he was counted among us and received
- 6:10his share in this ministry. Now this man acquired
- 6:13a field with the price of his wickedness, and
- 6:16falling headlong he burst open in the middle
- 6:19and all his intestines gushed out. What a scene.
- 6:23And it became known to all who were living in
- 6:26Jerusalem. so that in their own language the
- 6:29field was called, I may not say this, Hakodama,
- 6:32that is, field of blood, for it is written in
- 6:35the book of Psalms. Let his homestead be made
- 6:39desolate, and let no one dwell in it, and let
- 6:43another man take his office. Therefore, it is
- 6:47necessary that one of the men who have accompanied
- 6:49us all the time, that the Lord Jesus went in
- 6:52and amount among us. beginning with the baptism
- 6:55of John until the day that he was taken up from
- 6:58us. One of these must become a witness with us
- 7:01of his resurrection. So they put forward two
- 7:05men, Joseph called Barbaeus, who was also called
- 7:08Justus and Mathias. And they prayed and said,
- 7:12you Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show
- 7:16which one of these two you have chosen to occupy
- 7:20this ministry and apostleship. from which Judas
- 7:23turned aside to go to his own place. And they
- 7:27drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias,
- 7:31and he was added to the eleven apostles. Awesome.
- 7:35Thank you, Danny. So right after this ascension,
- 7:40and they go back to Jerusalem in the upper room,
- 7:43it says there's 120 people that are there with
- 7:46them. But the one thing that I wanted to just
- 7:49to point out Is that they named the 11 apostles
- 7:53and then it says they're doing something incredibly
- 7:55important It says these all with one mind were
- 7:59continually devoting themselves to prayer Along
- 8:03with the women and marry the mother of Jesus
- 8:05and with his brethren so this big gathering and
- 8:11What are they doing? praying prayer So we have
- 8:16the Holy Spirit that starts This is like Karen
- 8:20had said, you know last week and the week before
- 8:22this is about the Holy Spirit Coming to the world
- 8:26and beginning, you know to to do exactly what
- 8:29Jesus had said the father had promised by sending
- 8:32him and What do they do? They go to the upper
- 8:34room. Jesus told him to go back to Jerusalem
- 8:36That's where they went and then they are sitting
- 8:40there and they're in prayer. So they're waiting
- 8:43That's exactly what they're doing. They're waiting
- 8:46so Then at this point, while they're praying,
- 8:51Peter jumps up and he's like, um, guys, the scriptures
- 8:57had to be fulfilled with the, which the Holy
- 9:00Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning
- 9:02Judas. Did any of you guys research any of that
- 9:05this week about what Peter is actually talking
- 9:08about? Like where, where he's getting this quote?
- 9:12It's in Psalm 41 nine. Okay. Do you, by any chance
- 9:18do you have it? Could you look it up and read
- 9:21it I can okay I Have now I have my NSV in my
- 9:33in 2k machines, so I got two of them here 40
- 9:38So I'm 41 9 9 yeah, I didn't look at the context
- 9:42which I should have Say that I like that yeah,
- 9:48even my close friend in whom I trusted who ate
- 9:51my bread has lifted his heel up against me. And
- 9:55they were eating bread at Passover. Right. Yeah.
- 10:01So and he said something about when he passed
- 10:04the cup, that was right before he betrayed him
- 10:06because he knew. Yeah. Jesus himself quotes.
- 10:12I think it's John. Is it John 12, 35? Let me
- 10:15look it up here. Is that is that correct? I think.
- 10:19Yeah, I think it's John 12, 35, where Jesus Actually
- 10:23says it or John 13 18 it was betrayed But it
- 10:30was like a foreshadowing if you go to John, I
- 10:34think it's John 13 18 Jesus himself says this
- 10:40John 13 18 states He says I do not speak of all
- 10:47of you I know the ones I have chosen but it is
- 10:50that the scripture may be fulfilled he who eats
- 10:53my bread has lifted up his heel and against me.
- 10:56So we know that Peter was there, he heard Jesus
- 10:58say this. Peter was the one asking Jesus closely,
- 11:03who is this one that's going to do it? And then
- 11:06we know that, you know, the one of them grabs
- 11:08a bread and sops with him, right? So Jesus is
- 11:12recognizing this, and they're pulling this directly
- 11:14from something that David had said. Now, are
- 11:18any of you familiar with the man Ahithophel from
- 11:23the Old Testament? All right. Wasn't he one of
- 11:28the advisors? Was he one of the advisors to David?
- 11:32Yes. When was it when, um, Absalom rebelled?
- 11:39Yes. And then didn't they thwart his advice?
- 11:44Was the one who whose advice got thwarted? Yes.
- 11:50Then he decided to kill himself because he was
- 11:54so upset that Do you know how he killed himself?
- 11:57He hung himself. Yeah, sound familiar? Yeah.
- 12:02So I think it's 2 Samuel chapter 15 is where
- 12:06we hear that story. And Ahithophel was a very
- 12:10close friend of David's. And so whenever we hear
- 12:13like he ate my bread, it doesn't necessarily
- 12:16mean like in the case of Jesus and Judas, they
- 12:19were actually eating the unleavened bread, but
- 12:23with David by saying it that way, it was more
- 12:26like, you know, being in fellowship with, being
- 12:29in close proximity to and in love and like family,
- 12:32like brethren. And Ahithophel was a very close
- 12:34friend of David's and had been a good godly advisor.
- 12:38As a matter of fact, it says it, I think it says
- 12:41in second Samuel, it literally says that it was
- 12:45like when he spoke, he spoke an oracle of God.
- 12:48Let me see if I can find that. It's in second
- 12:51Samuel. where is it 15 well it's like all of
- 12:5615 through 17 um let's see i tried to have all
- 13:05of this ready and it's just too much it's too
- 13:07much i'm sorry all right i'm getting there so
- 13:22uh in second samuel 1623 second samuel 1623 this
- 13:32is what it says about ahithophel Verse 23, the
- 13:36advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those
- 13:39days, was as if one inquired of the word of God,
- 13:45so was all the advice of Ahithophel regarded
- 13:48by both David and Absalom. Okay, so this man
- 13:53was highly regarded, very close to David. It
- 13:58seems like he was from Giloh, G -I -L -O -H,
- 14:02I think it was, which is in Judah. So David was
- 14:08from Judah from Bethlehem and then also Ahithophel
- 14:14was from Judah. So he was like in his same tribe.
- 14:19And like I said, it was as if one inquired of
- 14:22the word of God. So Ahithophel was very respected
- 14:25and very trusted. But he decides to give David
- 14:30some bad advice because he's siding with Absalom.
- 14:33And then What's really fascinating, whenever
- 14:37David discovers this, do you know what David
- 14:40does? He flees, he weeps, but he flees to the
- 14:46Mount of Olives and he weeps. And then there's
- 14:52this other character that comes in by the name
- 14:54of Hoshiai and David consults with him and sends
- 14:58him in to thwart Ahithophel and it works. David,
- 15:06of course, is crushed. So in Psalm 41 .9, you
- 15:09can't really link it. It doesn't say the name
- 15:11Ahithophel. But I believe that that's who David's
- 15:14talking about, because it makes sense to me,
- 15:17because after Ahithophel, once he discovered
- 15:20that his word is no longer respected, that it
- 15:26says that he put his affairs in order, he put
- 15:27his home in order, and he went and hanged himself.
- 15:31And that's such a shadow and a type. of the Judas
- 15:36character, because he has remorse after he does
- 15:41what he does. And then he goes and hangs himself.
- 15:44And it says right here that that said that he
- 15:47bought a field. But in the Gospels, it never
- 15:49says that doesn't say he bought a field. I don't
- 15:53think. And maybe it maybe the other one hung
- 15:55himself. Do you think they were in the same place
- 15:58or close by? Honestly, I don't know. I mean,
- 16:01the Mount of Olives is right there. They are
- 16:03in Judah. And so I would assume it's relatively
- 16:06close. I mean, that's where, you know, Judas
- 16:10is. And by the way, like I was doing some research
- 16:12on Judas because as a matter of fact, I've got
- 16:15a lot to bring tonight just in this very, this
- 16:17very subject because this theme or this pattern
- 16:21of the betrayer is, it goes way back. It goes
- 16:25all the way back to the patriarchs. And it seems
- 16:29to recapitulate. In very important parts of israel's
- 16:33history and i think that that's what's going
- 16:36on here why? Peter would be able to recall that
- 16:39verse because jesus said it because jesus recalled
- 16:42that verse because this is a theme and this was
- 16:45a type and shadow of what the christ would go
- 16:47through but And i've lost my train of thought
- 16:52there but by saying going back in history Can
- 16:57you guys think of another time in Israel's history,
- 17:00like all the way back to the early 12 tribes
- 17:02or the 12 brothers when someone was betrayed?
- 17:06Yeah, Joseph. Oh, Joseph. Yeah. OK, so Joseph
- 17:10was betrayed and they were they were just going
- 17:16to kill him. Initially is what it says. But do
- 17:20you know who gave the idea that they should sell
- 17:23Judah, that they should sell him? Ruben. Judah.
- 17:29Ruben was trying to save him, but Judah was the
- 17:32one that gave the suggestion to sell him. And
- 17:35they did. And do you know how much they sold
- 17:38Joseph for? 30 pieces of silver? The same thing.
- 17:4220 pieces of silver. I guess that's the price
- 17:45of inflation. Yeah, that's fine. But 20 pieces
- 17:49of silver. So you see this betrayal and Joseph
- 17:53and Judah, right? This gets crazy. Like, this
- 17:58is kind of crazy how this works out in this book.
- 18:02Big Daddy, do you remember whenever we worked
- 18:04on the mirror, we were talking about Ahithophel
- 18:07and Judas? Dude, it's like we got six mirrors
- 18:13going on here. We'll have to share that with
- 18:14you guys once, eventually. So we all know the
- 18:20story of Joseph and how after that betrayal that
- 18:24Joseph went through taken down into Egypt and
- 18:29eventually would rise to be second in command
- 18:32of all of Egypt and save the world, basically.
- 18:36And we know that that's definitely a type of
- 18:39Christ. But there was a betrayal. He forgives
- 18:42them. He forgives them. The betrayal is the engine
- 18:48that gets them, that gets these savior characters
- 18:53to the place to where they can save people. All
- 18:55right, so you got to get there. The idea of Ahithophel
- 19:02and David being close and then Ahithophel betraying
- 19:05David during Absalom's rebellion, eventually
- 19:10we know what happens. Absalom obviously dies
- 19:12and David is restored and brings Israel to its
- 19:21highest height as the king over all of Israel.
- 19:28So by the time we get to Jesus and Judas and
- 19:30everything that's happening with them and Peter
- 19:32now describing how this needs to fulfill scripture,
- 19:36this was necessary to fulfill scripture. What's
- 19:41fascinating, I never saw this before and I don't
- 19:45know and I'm probably wrong. If I am, I want
- 19:48you guys to tell me. But did you ever wonder
- 19:53why Luke, when he tells you of the two men that
- 19:58were selected, that the first one he gives three
- 20:02names? Have you ever wondered why? Let's go back
- 20:07to that. Acts. Acts chapter one. I was wondering
- 20:16why they drew lots. Is that considered divination?
- 20:20No. I mean, even though the Holy Spirit obviously
- 20:23chose him, but what kind of thing is drawing
- 20:26lots? So the scripture says the lot is cast,
- 20:31but the the Lord determines the says the lot
- 20:34is cast in the lap, but the the Lord determines
- 20:37its outcome. And it was something whenever Joshua
- 20:44drew lots in order to give the land to Israel.
- 20:47So it was common practice for the Israelites
- 20:49to draw lots. They believe that whatever it landed
- 20:52on that God determined it in his sovereignty
- 20:54for them. So. All right. So before we get into
- 21:04the men's names, let's say it like this. This
- 21:07was another fascinating thing to me. So beginning
- 21:12with the baptism of John, this is what Peter
- 21:15says in verse 21, therefore it is necessary that
- 21:17of the men who have accompanied us all the time
- 21:19that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
- 21:23beginning with the baptism of John until the
- 21:25day that he was taken up from us. So that means
- 21:29that we know about the apostles. But there were
- 21:32other people traveling around with them. I mean,
- 21:37that should be a given, but you know, for most
- 21:39of my life, I just thought it was the him and
- 21:40the 12 walking around, but there were, there
- 21:42was a bunch of people with them. And of course
- 21:45we knew all of the women that it names and then,
- 21:48but you don't hear about a lot of the other men
- 21:50until after the fact, you know what I mean? Like
- 21:53we knew about Mary Magdalene. It usually was
- 21:56just a number of disciples following you. Yeah,
- 21:59we knew that he sent out the 70, so obviously
- 22:01there's more than 12, but they're never named.
- 22:05There's 120 in the upper room. Right. That's
- 22:09a lot. That's a crowded room. It really is. I
- 22:12don't know how big that upper room was, but pretty
- 22:16big. But so they wanted these men that had been
- 22:22there from the beginning. So what they do, the
- 22:28group, the collective, It says, so they put forward
- 22:32two men, verse 23. Now watch this name. Joseph
- 22:37called Bar -sabbas, who was also called Justice.
- 22:45Don't you think that's kind of interesting that
- 22:46he decided to tell us three names? And what's
- 22:49amazing is that the guy with the three names
- 22:51isn't the one that's selected. So I was thinking
- 22:55about this and I was like, Lord, why would you
- 22:57put those three names there? Okay, now I know
- 23:00that it's easy to go back. There was a lot of
- 23:02people named Joseph, a lot of people named Judas
- 23:04back then. So you see in other places in the
- 23:07book of Acts where Luke will say, for example,
- 23:10Barnabas, his name, he had another name besides
- 23:14Barnabas. I forget what it was. He was a Levite
- 23:17and I think his name was, I think his name was
- 23:20Judas, maybe, I don't know. We can look it up.
- 23:23But he says whose surname was whatever. and was
- 23:28called whatever. But in this one, I thought it
- 23:30was kind of interesting. So Joseph is a Hebrew
- 23:35Semitic name that goes way back. It's an ancient
- 23:37name. Obviously one of the tribes is named after
- 23:39Joseph, right? Barsabbas, that's very close to
- 23:44Barabbas, but Barsabbas is an Aramaic name. And
- 23:51although people, the naming convention of people
- 23:53at that time, those Aramaic names could be found
- 23:57in the southern kingdom like of Judah, but mainly
- 24:01it was spoken in the northern area where the
- 24:04Assyrians had come in, okay? And justice is a
- 24:09Latin name. And so I was thinking about it and
- 24:14while I was talking to the Lord about it, it
- 24:16just hit me. Earlier in this book, the great
- 24:20commission was to go to Jerusalem and Judea,
- 24:25then to Samaria. than the uttermost parts of
- 24:27the earth so this man's name sort of represents
- 24:31that in the order in which what did you say big
- 24:36daddy he's a traveler yeah he's around he's known
- 24:39now people were given latin names i mean obviously
- 24:42sol of tarsus was also known as paul which was
- 24:46his roman name is his latin name paul was also
- 24:48the same type of traveler right what would what
- 24:51would be the purpose if you stayed around jerusalem
- 24:52why would you purposely have separate names Right.
- 24:56Why would you for what reason would you want
- 24:58to fit in differently having a different name
- 25:01more of a Latin name? Are you gonna travel throughout
- 25:04Asia in the same way that Paul was? Mm -hmm.
- 25:07He's a traveler. It seemed like the name was
- 25:10showing a function doesn't it kind of Yeah, go
- 25:15ahead Karen, yeah, and everybody wants to call
- 25:18him Yeshua Jesus I mean, this is what This whole
- 25:24thing about his name is I mean, they don't change
- 25:26anyone else's name Mm -hmm, and I do know Yeshua
- 25:29is metatron So they do want us to use another
- 25:32name because remember how they said you can't
- 25:34you can't preach in that name Jesus so his name
- 25:38is super strong and this thing to make him Yeshua
- 25:41is Just a deception Yeah, I've heard I was looking
- 25:47into that to Karen once before and is there a
- 25:50difference between Yeshu and Yeshua Well, neither
- 25:54one his name is Jesus. He was born, you know,
- 25:56that's what everybody knows him by that name
- 25:59Right, but why do they want to change his name?
- 26:03But nobody else's name is getting changed Joseph
- 26:05doesn't get changed. None of the other ones get
- 26:07changed It just shows how powerful his name is
- 26:11Someone just left a comment about that on my
- 26:15channel and then someone replied yes you I think
- 26:18is a what was a derogatory term actually used
- 26:22against Yeah, Jesus. Yeah, they're mocking. I'm
- 26:26gonna see if I can find it. I don't know if I'm
- 26:28gonna be able to. But I'm heading off the subject,
- 26:30so. Yeah. I just wanted to show you that names
- 26:33are important because you're pointing this out.
- 26:36And why would they change the name of the Lord
- 26:38that we all get saved by his name? I don't know
- 26:41anybody that got saved by Yeshua. honestly, I
- 26:44actually I watched something by Michael Heiser
- 26:47a while back and He was saying that when it came
- 26:50to the ancient Hebrews and the name the name
- 26:53was not Specifically like what you call someone
- 26:56the name was about the character So like the
- 26:59name of God would be more about his character
- 27:01Than what he is called. So I don't remember what
- 27:05which video it was, but I know that I saw it
- 27:07a while back Well, it's like Joshua's name wasn't
- 27:11right But like Joshua's name is Yahoshua, right?
- 27:15We say Joshua and maybe they use the just sound,
- 27:19but from what I understand, the J wasn't even
- 27:21in the language until what, the 13th or 14th
- 27:24century? No, the sound was. It was an I. Yeah,
- 27:27it was an I. When it's followed by a consonant,
- 27:29it's the I sound like Israel. When it's followed
- 27:31by a vowel, it's the J sound like Judah. But
- 27:33it was an I and Tyndale added the little tail
- 27:36to make it, which it was a J sound to make it
- 27:39an actual different letter. But it did have the
- 27:41sound J. Yeah. I mean, I was going to say it's
- 27:44not like people didn't go J in ancient times.
- 27:46I'm sure they did. Well, there's Judah and there
- 27:49was I mean, people weren't there was a lot of
- 27:52names. Joseph, that started with the J sound.
- 27:54It was just spelled with an I. But they knew
- 27:56when it was followed by a vowel, it was followed
- 28:00by a vowel. It was the J sound followed by a
- 28:02consonant. It was the I sound like Israel. Yeah.
- 28:04You must be yoking. Okay, sorry, I got way off
- 28:10track there. I was just kidding. But Rick, I
- 28:15think you're correct on the function. You know,
- 28:18they weren't like us. We give our names like
- 28:21whatever, but in the Bible, they had functions.
- 28:24I mean, they're not carried with their name,
- 28:25too. So I was really, I thought that it was kind
- 28:29of interesting that Luke's pointing out something.
- 28:32I think the reason why he uses all these names
- 28:34actually comes up later in Acts 15. because I
- 28:38believe that Luke is talking about his brother.
- 28:41Barsabbas is a name. It's a unique name. And
- 28:45in Acts chapter 15, he talks about Judas Barsabbas
- 28:50at the Jerusalem council. And so I think that
- 28:53maybe early on he's showing that this is this
- 28:56is Joseph who is called Barsabbas. So it'd be
- 28:59Joseph Barsabbas, but he's also called Justice,
- 29:02which is a Latin name. OK, so. Yeah, go ahead.
- 29:08At least from what I've, um, put time into this
- 29:12is that when men would leave out and travel,
- 29:17they usually, depending on what they were, their
- 29:20name was, where they came from, came with, could
- 29:23have come with a stigma or could have come with
- 29:25something that carried baggage with it. So to
- 29:28have a different name would be to shed away from
- 29:31that stigma, get away from that thing. And you
- 29:33could blend into where you're heading to the
- 29:36unit. It didn't carry it with you. So you could
- 29:39do be their business or live in a different town
- 29:42or city in it as a different sort of a different
- 29:44person. What's kind of interesting in this letter
- 29:47is that this is initially when it's written,
- 29:50it's not a, it's not a mass letter like we have
- 29:53it today in the Bible. It was more of a private
- 29:55letter because it was written to theopolis. So
- 29:58for Luke to expose his multiple names is sort
- 30:03of a mass letter would have been a detriment
- 30:05to him, not into a private letter you don't want
- 30:09to expose if he's using name different names
- 30:13for i'm not saying the fairest reasons but for
- 30:15protection of himself just remember that they're
- 30:18about to meet some very heavy persecution you
- 30:22know very shortly in in their lives so yes so
- 30:26you don't want to expose this stuff and and we
- 30:30we talk sometimes when we're reading the bible
- 30:32that it's like it's written in a code To some
- 30:36degree, I believe that's absolutely true because
- 30:39the information that's in the letter that are
- 30:43written are very important and written to certain
- 30:46people. It's usually sent with a messenger. The
- 30:50messenger would be able to read it and be able
- 30:53to decipher the information within it so that
- 30:56the listeners at the time when they receive it
- 30:58had full understanding. The people, if the letter
- 31:01ever got lost, got picked up. or the messenger
- 31:04that sent the letter got arrested. You know,
- 31:07most average person most likely, unless they
- 31:09had done understanding of it, could not read
- 31:12it and fully understand what it meant. Because
- 31:14there's certain names at all that are written
- 31:17throughout the letters that mean different things.
- 31:20Parables, again, or information that means something
- 31:23else to mean something to somebody, but to somebody
- 31:26else that's completely gibberish. So adding into
- 31:30the part about him kind of exposing him, You're
- 31:34right, Rick, maybe that it's close to Luke because
- 31:37one Luke knows all three of his name. So he had
- 31:40to be in Luke's inner circle and to expose it
- 31:45is, you know, he wouldn't have done that if this
- 31:47was a mass letter. Mm hmm. Well, and it's also
- 31:51a theophilist would be in Jerusalem. And because
- 31:54later when it connects to Judas bar, Sabbath,
- 31:56it would make sense that these men were known.
- 32:00In Jerusalem, I don't think that my guess is
- 32:04that these guys were Judahites, most likely.
- 32:07And so the office will probably know who they
- 32:09are. And Luke is trusting Theophilus with the
- 32:12information. He's not willingly given it to him
- 32:15because it Theophilus is most likely going to
- 32:17do something nefarious with it. Assumingly again,
- 32:20this everything we say to some degree of speculation,
- 32:23but getting in the context of what these things
- 32:26are going on during the period of time it's happening.
- 32:29It seems to make a lot of definite sense that
- 32:33if they're traveling they would have multiple
- 32:35names So they could just blend in better Mm -hmm.
- 32:41Yeah, that's good They did that in because area
- 32:44too. They were called the names dealers They
- 32:46would when somebody came into because area they
- 32:49would you know kill that they would kill the
- 32:51guy take his stuff Take his identity and then
- 32:53go and sell his stuff They were called the names
- 32:56dealers. So It could be used for different reasons.
- 33:00Sounds like modern times here. It's like the
- 33:04criminals here. It's like the scams on. My name
- 33:08is going, my name is John. And you know, from
- 33:10like Indonesia, trying to scam you out of money.
- 33:16Well, no, that's his American name. Maybe he
- 33:18has three names too. And then as soon as you
- 33:23say I'm gonna call the company that you're from
- 33:25or the credit card then they say something rude
- 33:27and hang up on you Yeah, I missed the first the
- 33:31first episode that you did So I don't even know
- 33:34if you talked about this, but even the name Theophilus
- 33:36there's debate over whether that was an actual
- 33:38name because it also translates to lover of God
- 33:41so they didn't know if that was just sort of
- 33:44a An anonymous name as well. I mean, yeah, you
- 33:48you bring up a point that A lot of what we have
- 33:51is what we take it on face value because we don't
- 33:53have the original author who explained to us
- 33:55that the opposite was either a real person or
- 33:58he couldn't have been. Don't know. We have no
- 34:00idea. We're limited so much on information. Well,
- 34:04we did, we did link him. I tried to link him
- 34:07to the awful has been an honest, the high priest
- 34:09of the time there were, um, but that doesn't
- 34:12mean he was, um, Because it would have been great
- 34:16if he had said oh Theophilus been an honest that
- 34:18would have been awesome because then we would
- 34:19have known but he didn't All right. So when they
- 34:23cast the lots for these guys The lot they they
- 34:28pray Let's read that again what it says And they
- 34:34prayed and said because they selected Joseph
- 34:38called bar Sabbath who was also called justice
- 34:40and Matthias or Matthias I don't know how you
- 34:43say it and they prayed now they're praying again
- 34:46and said, You, Lord, who know the hearts of all
- 34:50men, show which one of these two you have chosen
- 34:54to occupy this ministry and apostleship from
- 34:57which Judas turned aside to go his own way. And
- 35:00they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to
- 35:04Mathias. Do you know what Mathias's name means?
- 35:09Gift of God. Oh, Matthew. I thought that was
- 35:12pretty neat. What's that? Isn't that what Matthew
- 35:16means? Or that's what John means, I think. Gift
- 35:19of God, gift from God. I looked it up. It means
- 35:22gift of God. So I thought that was kind of neat.
- 35:27So they're showing. I personally, this is just
- 35:29me. All right. And this this podcast, we speculate
- 35:33and we're allowed. So don't exegete me to death.
- 35:36I think what's going on here is that there's
- 35:40nothing wrong whatsoever with Joseph Barsabas
- 35:45justice. there's nothing wrong with him. He was
- 35:48a well -selected man, somebody that they all
- 35:51trusted and thought should be in the position.
- 35:53Nothing wrong with him. And there's obviously
- 35:56nothing wrong with Matthias either. I think the
- 35:59showing of the three names, Luke is going to
- 36:01tie into this later because I think he's showing,
- 36:04obviously the book of Acts is about this great
- 36:06commission. Yes. All the way till Paul gets to
- 36:09Rome, right? So we're watching the growth. of
- 36:13the church and the spreading. But then there
- 36:14comes a point, whether it's pivotal, where it
- 36:17switches. Because you see Philip go to Samaria,
- 36:20right? It makes sense. They're following the
- 36:23order. They get to Samaria and then boom, you've
- 36:25got Stephen, you've got the Gentiles. Now, Saul
- 36:30comes in and now he's the apostle of the Gentiles
- 36:32and he starts, you know, spreading the gospel
- 36:34around. So I think that that name is important.
- 36:38I think that showing those three names sort of
- 36:40That's just me. But I think it's sort of alluding
- 36:43to where God gives his gift of Matthias at this
- 36:47moment, because he's from this this gift of God
- 36:50from this area singular name while they're in
- 36:53Jerusalem. That's just me. All his works are
- 36:57known from eternity past. Yeah, that's true.
- 37:01And the other guy got the short stick. Yeah.
- 37:07Yeah, he sure did. It was God's will, so. I have
- 37:11one more question about that the apostles. Okay,
- 37:14so paul is an apostle too. Does that make 13?
- 37:17Or is he not a is he not one of the 12 because
- 37:20he he didn't actually walk with jesus. He just
- 37:23had the encounter with him So what would that
- 37:25make paul? Like if he's an apostle, does that
- 37:27make it 13? He says that he's an apostle born
- 37:30out of season season, right? And he was born
- 37:33for the yeah for specifically for the Gentiles
- 37:39So he's 12 plus one. Yeah, kind of like the way
- 37:43that it works with the tribes where you have
- 37:47Joseph that's replaced with Ephraim and Manasseh.
- 37:52I'm sorry. Go ahead, Kristen. I was thinking
- 37:56of Dinah. You know, there were 12 brothers, but
- 37:59then there was one sister. And she was the baddest
- 38:04of all of them. Yeah, she was the baddest. Good
- 38:11means bad in a good way. Like sick. Why are we
- 38:17so wicked good? It was wicked. Well, I appreciate
- 38:21you, Rick, looking into all this stuff because
- 38:24there's a lot here that I never would have like
- 38:27not only the three names, but when you were connecting
- 38:30it back to. Ahithophel, you know, even though
- 38:33I've read the scripture, the names get confusing,
- 38:36the battles get confusing. Everything starts
- 38:38to jumble. You almost need a chart. But I appreciate
- 38:42you doing that. And Rick Carter, too. I know
- 38:44you guys do some really deep dives. Yeah. Thank
- 38:48you, Karen. The question that I wanted to ask
- 38:52you guys as a group, because this has always
- 38:55confused me, is It always seems like when the
- 39:00apostles use the scriptures and say that this
- 39:04must be fulfilled, that it makes no sense to
- 39:06me at all. In other words, like, you know how
- 39:12Matthew will say, like out of Egypt, I've called
- 39:14my son. And if you go to Hosea 11, he's talking
- 39:18about Israel out of the Exodus. But Matthew takes
- 39:23that and he applies it to Christ. And like, how
- 39:28did how did Peter know? For example, like so
- 39:33you were talking about Psalm one Psalm 41 9 but
- 39:37these other these other ones are like Psalm 109
- 39:44and Psalm 69 like if you go to Psalm 69 25 Look
- 39:48at Psalm 69 25 with me real question is how did
- 39:51David know? He's not looking back Well, he's
- 40:00looking at his present. He's looking at his present
- 40:02and what he's dealing with, but it has ramifications.
- 40:04It means something later. And I don't know that
- 40:06he knows it all. Yeah. I don't know if he knew
- 40:09that. Yeah. So like if you go to Psalm 69, it
- 40:16starts off. Yes. So it says here in Psalm 69,
- 40:22a cry of distress and implication on adversaries.
- 40:26Catch that a cry of distress and imprecation
- 40:29on adversaries for the choir director record.
- 40:31I'm in Psalm 69 verse 1 For the choir director
- 40:35according to shosh and him a psalm of David save
- 40:39me Oh God for the waters have threatened my life
- 40:41I have sunk in deep mire and there is no foothold
- 40:44I have come into deep waters and a flood overflows
- 40:46me I am weary with my crying my throat is parched
- 40:49my eyes fail while I wait for my God Those who
- 40:53hate me without a cause are more than the hairs
- 40:55of my head. Those who would destroy me are powerful,
- 40:58being wrongfully my enemies. What I did not steal
- 41:01I then have to restore. O God, is it you who
- 41:05knows my folly and my wrongs are not hidden from
- 41:07you? That's obviously David. Because that can't
- 41:12be Jesus verse 6 may those who wait for you not
- 41:15be ashamed through me Oh Lord God of hosts may
- 41:17those who seek you not be dishonored through
- 41:19me Oh God of Israel Because for your sake I have
- 41:23borne reproach this honor has covered my face
- 41:25I have become estranged from my brothers and
- 41:28an alien to my mother's sons For zeal for your
- 41:31house has consumed me does that sound familiar?
- 41:35The zeal of your house is consuming they use
- 41:37that in the Gospels to talk about when Jesus
- 41:40is kicking them out, calling them a den of thieves,
- 41:43and whipping them. The zeal for your house has
- 41:45consumed me. It was fulfilling of the scripture.
- 41:48And the reproaches of those who reproach you
- 41:50have fallen on me. When I wept in my soul with
- 41:53fasting, it became my reproach. When I made sackcloth
- 41:56my clothing, I became a byword to them. Those
- 41:59who sit in the gate talk about me, and I am the
- 42:02song of the drunkards. But as for me, my prayer
- 42:05is to you. O Lord, at an acceptable time. O God,
- 42:08in the greatness of your loving -kindness, answer
- 42:11me with your saving truth. Deliver me from the
- 42:14mire and do not let me sink. May I be delivered
- 42:17from my foes and from the deep waters. May the
- 42:20flood of water not overflow me, nor the deep
- 42:23swallow me up, nor the pit shut its mouth on
- 42:26me. Now a lot of these verses we know like answer
- 42:29me a load for your loving kindness is good According
- 42:32to the greatness of your compassion turned to
- 42:34me and do not hide your face from your servant
- 42:36For I am in distress answer me quickly. Oh, oh
- 42:40draw near to my soul and redeem it Ransom me
- 42:43be ransom me because of my enemies You know my
- 42:47reproach, huh be heard in these You know some
- 42:51boys can be heard in these and these words whose?
- 42:55job Yeah, I was gonna say that's Joe and it's
- 42:59still a picture of Christ Mm -hmm. It is and
- 43:02so if we keep 21 first 21 Yeah, look at it. They
- 43:06also gave me golf for my food and for my thirst
- 43:08They gave me vinegar to drink. Who's that Christ?
- 43:12Exactly May their table before them become a
- 43:15snare and when they are in a piece may it become
- 43:17a trap May their eyes grow dim so they cannot
- 43:20see and make their loins shake continually pour
- 43:23out your indignation on them and may your burning
- 43:27anger overtake them. Now watch this. May they
- 43:30forgive them. He said, forgive them. And he's
- 43:35saying, get vengeance on them. Right. So verse
- 43:3925, but the thing is God poured his indignation
- 43:41out on his son. Yes, he did. So everything that
- 43:46David's crying out for is actually going to be
- 43:48put on his servant. That's what that's what's
- 43:50going on in verse 25 He says may there can't
- 43:53be desolate may none dwell in their tents now
- 43:56if you go back to acts That's what Peter is quoting
- 44:01that verse So how is that the scriptures being
- 44:05fulfilled? How is Peter putting that together?
- 44:09How is the whole like the Holy Spirit has got
- 44:11to be telling Peter something so Whenever we're
- 44:14trying to understand prophecy or understand the
- 44:16fulfillment of scripture, like how do you guys
- 44:18put that together? Could you have ever read that
- 44:21verse and then placed it in this position in
- 44:23the story? Do you see what I mean? Am I making
- 44:26sense? I don't know. I mean, I could be wrong,
- 44:28but I think that when it comes to the ancient
- 44:31Hebrews, the males at least, they were completely
- 44:34immersed in the Tanakh. They ate, they slept
- 44:40and they breathed the Tanakh. They knew it in
- 44:43and out and that was that was their life So it
- 44:47might seem hard for us to understand today because
- 44:50even though there are those of us who we we do
- 44:52study our words I think that a lot of them even
- 44:54had the Tanakh or at least the entire Torah completely
- 44:57memorized So, I don't know for them. It might
- 45:01have just been easier because this is something
- 45:03that was completely in their nature Not not in
- 45:08their nature, but it's just it was become there
- 45:10was the way that they were raised And we just
- 45:13don't have anything to compare that to, I think.
- 45:16They're still that way too. Yeah. And Rick, to
- 45:20continue what Shelley's saying, they knew the
- 45:23scriptures so well, you'll see some scriptures.
- 45:26Jesus wouldn't quote the whole scripture. They
- 45:27don't quote the whole whole testament because
- 45:30they know that they knew what they were talking
- 45:32about. Which makes it hard for me because I don't
- 45:36know what they're talking about. Really don't
- 45:39like I can use chat GPT till the cows come home
- 45:43and I do I'd love to try to research and help
- 45:45me get the you know Man, like there's some things
- 45:48I'm just not gonna get and so at this point whenever
- 45:52Peter says in order to fill the scripture and
- 45:56then he reads Psalm 69 and I think it's Psalm
- 45:5810 some whoops, sorry, so no no nine Yeah, let's
- 46:04see 109 8 some 109. Let's go to Psalm 109 real
- 46:07quick doesn't Doesn't that almost make like everything
- 46:11from the Old Testament is almost prophetic? Because
- 46:14it never has a fulfillment until the days of
- 46:17Christ a lot of ways it feels like it You know,
- 46:20it feels like everything's prophetic. It's all
- 46:23Jesus said the law and the prophets were about
- 46:26me In the Psalms to Rick he said I came to fulfill
- 46:32the Psalms to yes all to the Psalms to me is
- 46:36messianic. Mm -hmm That's a picture see my Bible
- 46:39study in in Rick brought a little bit about it
- 46:43and the deepness of the mirrors and the propheticness
- 46:47if you know how much of at least the Old Testament
- 46:52is prophetic and if you take it from a prophetic
- 46:55context it takes you it really is mind -numbing
- 47:01about the amount of information that probably
- 47:04is in this that to some degree we we we try to
- 47:08They let's be literal about it, but can we, our
- 47:13language and how we talk to each other, we're
- 47:16so descriptive. We use, um, we use words on top
- 47:20of words to describe different things, to try
- 47:22to, to paint some type of narrative in our, in
- 47:25our everyday conversation and our language. And
- 47:28I promise that in the, in the writings, they're
- 47:31doing the same thing. And it's the hard part
- 47:34is trying to figure out. what they mean and if
- 47:39you take sometimes through study and and take
- 47:42it prophetically based on what do we have to
- 47:46reconcile because if Peter is telling the truth
- 47:49and Jesus said the same thing and John that in
- 47:52order for the scripture to be to be fulfilled
- 47:55that means that the things that were said during
- 47:57the Old Testament days was not there is no near
- 48:00fulfillment does it have a near fulfillment very
- 48:03possibly it does But then you can't reconcile
- 48:07what Jesus said or Peter saying and saying that
- 48:09so that the scripture can be fulfilled and they
- 48:11have to be fulfilled now. You have to reconcile
- 48:15that. It has to add up. You know what, though,
- 48:19Big Daddy? So these Psalms that we say, it's
- 48:23just like Danny just said a minute ago, like
- 48:25they know it. Go to Psalm 109, then I'll make
- 48:29my point in Psalm 109. You remember in Psalm
- 48:3269, I read the heading, right? And it said. something
- 48:36about adversaries. Do you remember that? Well,
- 48:39look at Psalm 109. Vengeance invoked upon adversaries
- 48:44for the choir director of Psalm of David. So
- 48:47this is an adversarial Psalm. So, you know, they
- 48:50have Psalms of praise. Karen called me the other
- 48:52day and we read Psalm 148 and 150. I was having
- 48:55a very bad day. My day got better, Karen. It
- 48:56was wonderful. If you praise God, if you praise
- 48:59God when things are bad, praise Him. And yes,
- 49:02you're right. It's so true. So. Maybe they're
- 49:06singing songs all the time, you know, and then
- 49:09these are their songs that they're singing. And
- 49:11so when an adversary comes, that's the thing
- 49:13that comes to mind. And if Christ is Messiah,
- 49:18it's like, that's the other thing. It seems like
- 49:21Jesus and the apostles were the only ones who
- 49:23knew that Messiah was gonna be cut off. Because
- 49:26everybody else was expecting this Messiah to
- 49:28come and usher in the kingdom and it was gonna
- 49:31be forever, right? But yet Jesus is an apostles,
- 49:34they knew he was gonna be cut off. And then we
- 49:37also know Jesus says about Judas is better that
- 49:39he had never been born. Right. Right. And so,
- 49:43but Judah, Judas, Judas was born and you know,
- 49:48fulfills his role. The disciples knew he'd be
- 49:51cut off because he was telling him that he would
- 49:53be cut off. The struggle part is they didn't
- 49:56understand until after it already was taken place.
- 49:59So it's almost like Jesus was the only one that
- 50:01knew he was going to have to die. Listen what
- 50:12in fact, what did he what did he call Peter when
- 50:15Peter said you can't die? What do you call him?
- 50:18Yes an adversary. Oh Very good the adversary.
- 50:24Yes Until they had the Holy Spirit. They were
- 50:28not bold. That's right away when he got arrested
- 50:31I mean, their boldness didn't come until they
- 50:33got the Holy Spirit. That's right. I have to
- 50:35disagree. I have to disagree. Really? Yeah, Peter
- 50:38had a ton of boldness, man. He grabbed a sword
- 50:40and cut a dude's ear off. He had way too much.
- 50:43Yes, it is. Just worldly. Okay, not the right
- 50:46kind of boldness. You're right. Jesus explains
- 50:48that. Wrong sword, buddy. Wrong sword, Peter.
- 50:53That's not the sword I'm talking about. I mean,
- 50:55bold for him. Yes. They would die for him and
- 50:57they wouldn't die for him when he went to the
- 50:59cross. They ran. Right. Well, Peter didn't say
- 51:01that I would die for you, Jesus. And he ran away
- 51:05and he denied him. Jesus is the one that put
- 51:09that stopped Peter from fighting in the in the
- 51:12physical. Right. He did. Peter was fighting in
- 51:15the physical, right? So he took the sword cut
- 51:17off Malchus's ear. He's ready to rock, you know,
- 51:20like let's go to war and But Peter Jesus says
- 51:24Peter put away your sword Right, and then he
- 51:26heals map Malchus So it's obvious that Peter
- 51:29whatever that war that that Jesus was teaching
- 51:32Peter was not the physical war It's never been
- 51:35about the physical. I think they thought it was
- 51:38a physical kingdom even Till he died and then
- 51:41they're like, oh well there go our hopes and
- 51:42they ran away first Yeah, but they still went
- 51:46and they waited and they got the Holy Spirit
- 51:48and then they knew Yeah, the kingdom was That's
- 51:52good. You're right I could be wrong, but in Acts
- 51:561, I thought that also, and I know that people
- 51:58have different takes on this, but in verse 6
- 52:01of Acts 1, when they say, Lord, is it at this
- 52:03time that you are restoring the kingdom to Israel?
- 52:06To me, when I read that, I get the impression
- 52:08that they're still waiting for a political kingdom,
- 52:10even at that point. Until they got the Holy Spirit,
- 52:13they didn't get it. They did not get it. I have
- 52:16to read this question, and it goes into Acts...
- 52:21Let me look at the verse real quick. Here's the
- 52:25question that I had. Now I could be wrong in
- 52:28this and the same thing. But why would that?
- 52:31Why would the disciples that spend all that time
- 52:32with him asking that question about the restoring
- 52:37of the kingdom? Right. So why would they ask
- 52:39him that question restoring kingdom when they
- 52:41knew from the very beginning, when they, when
- 52:44they had already talked about from the point
- 52:46of when the baptism of John, he's at the baptism,
- 52:49Johnny telling him that the kingdom's at hand.
- 52:52So they're now asking the question, when are
- 52:55you going to reestablish your kingdom? That doesn't
- 52:58seem like a disciple question. In my opinion,
- 53:02it was physical. Well, again, we love to speculate
- 53:06and we get into we read today about when it called
- 53:12out the 12 in verse 13, the question would be,
- 53:16is are the disciples there? The way that Luke
- 53:21is writing this are the disciples actually there
- 53:23when this stuff happened? Because of these the
- 53:27timing of this is is not far after which part
- 53:30which part I'm confused Rick which part in the
- 53:33first eight verses You're talking about during
- 53:35the ascension that yes are the disciples even
- 53:38okay are the disciples there because they're
- 53:40gazing up It seems like they are well the group
- 53:43that they're the Jesus is with of course. They're
- 53:47gazing up 100 % But are the 12 there? They wouldn't
- 53:52have seemed to have asked that question in my
- 53:53opinion That would have been like a comp, you
- 53:59know, more of a, an outsider view that had the
- 54:03perspective, again, of the Messiah coming into
- 54:06rule and reign over the kingdoms of the earth.
- 54:09That's like an earthly question, not a heavenly
- 54:12question. Christ was pointing to the heavenly
- 54:16things, not to the earthly things. That's an
- 54:17earthly question. So you get into 13 and it's
- 54:21Mrs. When they arrived, you know, they didn't
- 54:24know what to do. They didn't know what to do.
- 54:23It went to the room upstairs where they were
- 54:26staying in the, again, I'd need an English teacher
- 54:31to help me, at least in my translation of the
- 54:34Bible. It seems like the way that they use the
- 54:37they there, that that's a third party, that the
- 54:40disciples were still locked up in the room. They
- 54:42were still afraid to get away. So you're thinking
- 54:47that, I think what he's saying is that, so hold
- 54:51on, let's go back to X1 at the very top and let
- 54:53me see. Let me see if I can pick up what you're
- 54:55laying down here. So acts one. So gathering them.
- 55:05All right. So gathering them. Verse three. To
- 55:09these he also presented himself alive and after
- 55:11suffering by many convincing things. So it's
- 55:15not mentioning. Yeah. OK, it's the apostles.
- 55:18Verse two until the day when he was taken up
- 55:20to heaven after he had by the Holy Spirit given
- 55:23orders to the Apostles whom he had chosen to
- 55:26these he also presented himself alive after his
- 55:29suffering by many convincing proofs appearing
- 55:30to them over a period of 40 days and Speaking
- 55:32of the things concerning the kingdom of God gathering
- 55:35them together, which is still the Apostles He
- 55:38commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to
- 55:40wait for what was father had promised So if we
- 55:42hold your thought if they don't leave Jerusalem,
- 55:45they should still be in Jerusalem, right? And
- 55:49that's where they stayed they were so right.
- 55:52So he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem So
- 55:55at this point, they're not on the Mount of Olives
- 55:57yet, right? Which he said you heard of me for
- 56:01John baptized with water But you we baptized
- 56:03with the Holy Spirit not many days from now verse
- 56:056 So when they had come together, they were asking
- 56:07him saying Lord Is it at this time you were restoring
- 56:10the kingdom to Israel? He said to them it is
- 56:12not for you to know times or epochs Alright,
- 56:14so they're still in Jerusalem at this point when
- 56:17he's telling him this And after he said these
- 56:20things, he was lifted up while they were looking
- 56:22on. So when did they go from Jerusalem to the
- 56:26Mount of Olives? Like, when did that happen?
- 56:28I see what you're saying. Well, it says right
- 56:32after the angels, the two men said he's going
- 56:35to go, then they returned to Jerusalem and they
- 56:37walked the Sabbath day, right? Yeah, but he ascended
- 56:40off the Mount of Olives. Mount of Olives is not,
- 56:43I mean, it's technically in Jerusalem, but it's
- 56:45not in Jerusalem. You know what I mean? Not in
- 56:47the city. After he went up, then they went and
- 56:49they waited because it was it was ten days. Right.
- 56:54Because he was walking with them for 40 days.
- 56:57But I don't think they still got it. I think
- 56:59they got it till they got the Holy Spirit. They
- 57:00still thought it was going to be a physical kingdom.
- 57:03I still think that they thought that and then
- 57:05they got it. And then they started preaching
- 57:06about the kingdom and they to their death. I
- 57:09mean, look at Stephen. Yeah. Well, I tell you
- 57:13what, let's end this one right here with a cliffhanger.
- 57:15I don't know. I don't know. I don't understand
- 57:20prophecy. I don't understand why prophets, sometimes
- 57:23they say things, sometimes they do actions, sometimes
- 57:25they see visions, sometimes they sing a song.
- 57:29And what seems to be taken out of context is
- 57:31perfectly useful for the disciples to use. And
- 57:34it's just my ignorance of the scriptures. And
- 57:37that's okay right now. That's why we're studying.
- 57:39We're trying to understand. And so what we're
- 57:41going to do, we'll come back next week for Acts
- 57:45chapter two. And that's a very fun chapter. So
- 57:50Shelly, Big Daddy, Danny and Adrienne, Kristen,
- 57:53Karen, all of you guys. Thanks so much for being
