- 0:01Acts chapter 2. Let's pray.
- 0:07Oh God Almighty, we love you. Jesus, we thank you for these
- 0:11holy scriptures. We thank you, Lord, for family
- 0:14and for waking us up. We thank you, God, that you have
- 0:17empowered us with the Holy Ghost from on high.
- 0:20I thank you God, that we can have the mind of Christ.
- 0:23I thank you, God, that you are sanctifying us and consecrating
- 0:27this temple. Lord, I pray in the name of
- 0:29Jesus that you will give us our marching orders and help us,
- 0:33Lord, to charge the hill, help us to take back enemy territory.
- 0:37Help us, God, to be filled with the Holy Ghost, Lord, not just a
- 0:41little bit, Father, not just halfway, but God, I pray,
- 0:44overflowing into the community, into all of our world at large.
- 0:51Lord, I pray that you'll come back soon.
- 0:54Maranatha, Father, we cry out, You have come and you are coming
- 0:59and you will come. The Spirit and the bride says
- 1:02come. We are lovesick, longing for our
- 1:06bridegroom. We are watching, Lord.
- 1:09We are looking up. We are waiting, Lord, but help
- 1:13us to wait well. Help us to finish this race
- 1:16well. Help us not to slack up.
- 1:19Help us not to slack off. Help us not to grow despondent.
- 1:24Help us not to quench the Spirit.
- 1:28Help us not to sear our conscience.
- 1:30God, I pray in the name of Jesus, we'll keep our love hot,
- 1:35we'll keep our fire burning, we'll keep our lamps full, we'll
- 1:39trim the Wicks. God, as we wait upon you, Lord,
- 1:43and as you tarry, God, I pray that we'll go out into the
- 1:47harvest. I pray that we will go out and
- 1:51tell every single person that we come in contact with today about
- 1:56your love and about what you did in our lives and about how much
- 2:00you love them and how much you would die for them so that they
- 2:05could be there with us for all of eternity.
- 2:08And so, God, we just say yes and we say Amen to all the promises
- 2:14contained in this book, Lord, knowing that anything we give
- 2:18pales in comparison to you and the glory that you possess, and
- 2:26it is your presence that we are chasing after.
- 2:32Lord, we want more. We have tasted and we have seen
- 2:35that you are good and we want more.
- 2:39Father, we're not satisfied with material gain.
- 2:44We're not satisfied with material wealth.
- 2:47We're not satisfied with all of the things that this world is
- 2:53trying to sell us. God, we want you and you and you
- 2:59alone. Father God, Jesus Christ, Holy
- 3:06Spirit, I decrease as you increase.
- 3:10Teach us your eternal paths. We stand on the rock.
- 3:18We stand on the good book, the Bible in its completeness.
- 3:24Nothing added, just the good Book, nothing taken away.
- 3:32So God, we build our lives upon this truth.
- 3:36Help us as we read through this book.
- 3:39You say whatever it is that you want to say.
- 3:42Hide me, hide my words, hide my thoughts.
- 3:47It's all about you, King Jesus. It's always been about you, King
- 3:51Jesus, and it will always be about you, King Jesus.
- 3:56Here we are, we are listening. Teach us in Jesus Christ, holy
- 4:03worthy, lovely name, we pray, Amen.
- 4:11Let's start in verse one. And when the day of Pentecost
- 4:17was fully come, they were all with 1 accord in one place.
- 4:21So imagine that. Imagine how they're being
- 4:25obedient and they are doing exactly what Jesus Christ told
- 4:29them to do, and they are of 1 minded 1 accord.
- 4:33And you can see here that they've put away all of their
- 4:38own ideas, and they are emptied of self, and desirous to be
- 4:46filled with the Holy Ghost. 2 Suddenly there came a sound from
- 4:52heaven, as of a rushing, mighty wind, and they filled all the
- 4:57house where they were sitting. I pray that you've experienced
- 5:01this mighty rushing wind coming in.
- 5:05I pray that you understand that this is available to you,
- 5:09friend. But you must be poured out of
- 5:12your own selfish desires, of all of your own selfish thoughts,
- 5:19selfish ideas. You've got to be poured out of
- 5:24how the world operates and what the world tells us, and we must
- 5:29be emptied completely to be filled with the Holy Ghost. 3
- 5:37And there appeared unto them cloven tongues, like as of fire,
- 5:42and it sat upon each of them. I pray that you have experienced
- 5:48this baptism of coming in this mighty rushing wind, this
- 5:53baptism of fire coming down four.
- 5:59And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to
- 6:01speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
- 6:06So we know that these men are about to start speaking in
- 6:10languages and there are people outside that are going to hear
- 6:13these languages and they're going to marvel that they can
- 6:16understand them clearly. And then we know that later on
- 6:20in Scripture he talks about angelic language, and we know
- 6:26that these two are mixed together in the sense of
- 6:29speaking in tongues, which is what we're about to witness here
- 6:34in the book of Acts 5. And there were dwelling at
- 6:45Jerusalem, Jews, devout men out of every nation under heaven.
- 6:53So here you can see that these people were coming in from all
- 7:00over the place who spoke different languages. 6 Now when
- 7:07this was noised abroad, the multitude came together and were
- 7:11confounded, because every man heard them speak in his own
- 7:15language. So you can see here that this
- 7:18was a clear language that was being spoken by these disciples
- 7:25and the people outside marveled because they understood the
- 7:31words. This was not just some
- 7:38repetition of syllables that makes other people think that
- 7:44you're super spiritual and you try to gain an edge on people.
- 7:51And that is not ignorance of the actuality that speaking in
- 7:57tongues is real and is biblical. And that is non debatable.
- 8:05However, there are many who do it as a show and do it to gain
- 8:12some kind of super spiritual badge on their vest so that
- 8:18others will accept them into their congregation.
- 8:22And Paul is going to tell us later on in the New Testament,
- 8:26he's going to tell us that we should not speak in tongues
- 8:30unless there is someone there to interpret those speaking in
- 8:35tongues. So a lot of this is mostly for
- 8:38show and it is known that there is truly no edification of the
- 8:48Spirit. We need to be edifying our
- 8:52brothers and sisters with the speaking in tongues, and that is
- 8:55a clear biblical mandate that if there is no one there to
- 8:59interpret what you were saying, you need to be silent and you
- 9:04will answer for all the times that you made it about self and
- 9:09put everybody's eyes off of the Lord and on you. 7 And they were
- 9:18all amazed and marveled, saying, one to another, Behold, are not
- 9:23all these which speak Galileans? And we know that when Peter was
- 9:29warming himself by the fire, the servant said, Your speech
- 9:34bereaeth you, your speech gives you away.
- 9:39Because they had a thick Galilean accent.
- 9:43And so all these people passing by were hearing their own
- 9:46languages, and it was clear, and it was discernible, friends, and
- 9:53they marveled, 8 And how here we every man in our own tongue,
- 10:00where we were born. So imagine that it's clear and
- 10:05it is discernible. 9 Parthians, Medes, Alamites, and the
- 10:12dwellers in Mesopotamia and Judea, and Cappadocia, and
- 10:16Pontus in Asia, Frish and Pampt, and Egypt, and the parts of
- 10:22Libya about Cyrene and strangers, Rome, Jews,
- 10:28proselytes, Cretes, Arabians. We do hear them speak in our
- 10:33tongues the wonderful works of God.
- 10:36This was the purpose that God desired, that all these people
- 10:41from all these different places would hear the good news of the
- 10:46Lord Jesus Christ. And He gives us the same gifts
- 10:51today. These gifts are still being
- 10:54given today that we are able to go into another land and we have
- 10:59never even been trained in that language.
- 11:02And the Holy Spirit takes over and the people understand
- 11:05clearly about the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ when we
- 11:09open our mouths and he unhinges our tongue and we are able to
- 11:14give a clear gospel presentation in a language that we know
- 11:20nothing about. It's still available to us
- 11:23today. Friends 12 And they were all
- 11:27amazed and we're in doubt, saying one to another, what does
- 11:31this mean? Thirteen others mocked saying
- 11:34these men are full of new wine. So you can see here that it's no
- 11:39different today that whenever God works a mighty miracle,
- 11:44you'll have those that are completely yielded and they give
- 11:53their lives over. But whenever the bird comes in,
- 11:56Satan comes in and snatches the seed.
- 12:00People will mock. And it is a fact that God will
- 12:04not be mocked and His Word never returns void.
- 12:08So we would do well to be found the ones that are yielded over
- 12:12to the miraculous, and not doubting. 14 Peter stood up with
- 12:19the 11. He lifted up his voice and said
- 12:23unto them, You men of Judea, and all you that dwell at Jerusalem,
- 12:30be this known unto you, and listen to my words.
- 12:37So he's going to show them that Jesus is the Christ and that
- 12:41Jesus is Lord. And we're seeing Peter take this
- 12:48leadership role. He's going to start preaching
- 12:50praise God for his obedience unto the Lord Jesus Christ. 15
- 12:57For these are not drunk, as you suppose, seeing that it is about
- 13:019:00 in the morning. 16 But this is that which was spoken by the
- 13:08prophet Joel. 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days,
- 13:14says God, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh, and
- 13:19your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, your young men
- 13:23shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And
- 13:28on my servants and on my handmaids I will pour out in
- 13:32those days my spirit, and they shall prophesied. 19 And I will
- 13:36show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath,
- 13:40blood and fire and vapor of smoke, 20 in the sun shall be
- 13:45turned Into Darkness, and the moon into blood, before that
- 13:49great day, that great notable day of the Lord comes. 21 And it
- 13:55shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name
- 13:58of the Lord shall be saved. What an amazing prophecy that
- 14:05was coming to fulfillment here in the the 1st century as Peter
- 14:15and as the church gets birthed. And you can see here that they
- 14:21considered that time to be the last days.
- 14:25And here we are 2000 years later, and some might scoff and
- 14:32say, where is this coming of the Lord?
- 14:36Everything goes on as it has from the beginning.
- 14:39And they turned back to their vomit.
- 14:41They turned back to their worldly ways, their worldly
- 14:45wisdom, and they turned their backs in their apostate and
- 14:49fallen away from the Lord Jesus Christ because they're offended
- 14:54that He has not yet come. But you need to know that 1000
- 14:59years is like a day unto the Lord, and a day is like 1000
- 15:03years. And we would do well to make
- 15:07sure that our eschatology says nothing more than we're closer
- 15:13today than we were yesterday. By and by, however long the Lord
- 15:18decides to tarry, it is for the salvation of those who are going
- 15:23to come into the fold. And we need to get out of our
- 15:26own way and make sure that we're scattering that seed.
- 15:30Friends, no matter the soil, scatter the seed.
- 15:34And here Joel prophesied about this Acts 2 church and he's
- 15:40prophesying about our day and our hour for right now, for such
- 15:46a time as this, this great outpouring upon the sons and
- 15:50daughters, dreaming dreams and seeing visions, friends.
- 15:56And we will see all of these prophecy prophecies come to
- 15:59fruition, this moon into blood, the sun Into Darkness.
- 16:05We're going to see it all, friends.
- 16:07Armageddon. We're going to see it all as we
- 16:11come back with the Lord after the rapture.
- 16:15And if we'll call on the name of the Lord, we'll be saved.
- 16:17That is it. That's the simple gospel,
- 16:20friends. We complicate it. 22 You men of
- 16:24Israel hear these words. Jesus of Nazareth, the man
- 16:28approved of God among you by miracles, wonders, signs, which
- 16:33God did by him in the midst of you, as you yourselves also
- 16:37know. So he's going to show them that
- 16:40the works of Jesus prove him to be the Lord, and he is talking
- 16:46to all of Israel, all of Jerusalem, and he's showing them
- 16:53that Jesus is proven by the works that he displayed while he
- 16:57walked this earth. 23 Him being delivered by the determinate
- 17:03counsel and foreknowledge of God you have taken, and by wicked
- 17:07hands you have crucified and slain.
- 17:10Even though God ordained it, it does not excuse the wicked men
- 17:14who put him on the cross out of greed and out of envy, 24 whom
- 17:21God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death, Amen.
- 17:26Because it was not possible that he should be held by it.
- 17:29So we know that Death could not hold him, the grave could not
- 17:34keep him. Oh Death and hell, where is your
- 17:39sting? We do not need to fear death,
- 17:42friends. We don't go to it prematurely,
- 17:44but we do not fear it when it comes knocking.
- 17:48We need to finish the race. Well, no matter how many more
- 17:51days you have left on this earth, this could be your very
- 17:54last day on earth and life is but a vapor.
- 17:58And if you in 100 years time will not put your full faith in
- 18:02the Lord Jesus Christ, you'll never do it.
- 18:05You could live 100 lifetimes over and you would never do it
- 18:09if you won't do it in the 100 years that He gives you.
- 18:12And once you have done that, it should be of great encouragement
- 18:18to you when the Lord comes to call you home.
- 18:22And we'll all have to walk that out. 10 out of 10 people die,
- 18:26and death is the number one fear of mankind.
- 18:31And we need to make sure that we're not gripped by fear.
- 18:35But we let go of it, knowing that we will be in paradise with
- 18:39Him today. 25 For David spoke concerning him.
- 18:47I first saw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my
- 18:51right hand that I should not be moved. 26 Therefore did my heart
- 18:56rejoice, and my tongue was glad. Moreover also my flesh shall
- 19:00rest in hope. 27 Because you will not leave my soul in hell,
- 19:06neither will you suffer your holy One to see corruption. 28
- 19:11You have made known to me the ways of life, that you shall
- 19:16make me full of joy with your countenance.
- 19:21So here Peter is referencing in the Psalms.
- 19:24He's referencing how David prophesied that Jesus would not
- 19:29stay in hell, that he went to snatch the keys to preach the
- 19:33good news to the souls that were there, to lead a mighty
- 19:36triumphant procession out of that place, and to close down
- 19:40Abraham's bosom. 29 Men, brothers, let me freely speak
- 19:52unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead, buried,
- 20:00and his tomb is here with us today. 30 Therefore being a
- 20:05prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him,
- 20:10that the fruit. Out that of the fruit of his
- 20:14loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit
- 20:20on his throne. 31 He, seeing this before, spoke of the
- 20:26resurrection of Christ, that His soul was not left in hell,
- 20:31neither His flesh did see corruption.
- 20:36He evaporated out of the grave Clothes, friends, He left them
- 20:41in the tomb. He put his headpiece to the side
- 20:45to show that he would return. And here Peter understood these
- 20:50truths. Now that he's baptized with the
- 20:53Holy Ghost, he's indwelled. And Holy Ghost is revealing all
- 20:58of the scripture to the disciples and the apostles now,
- 21:02just like Jesus had promised them.
- 21:05Look how Jesus always makes good on His word.
- 21:08If He has spoken a word over your life.
- 21:11We need to take it at face value and we need to make sure we walk
- 21:15in that promise knowing that it never returns.
- 21:20Void friends. And Peter understood it at this
- 21:24point, and he's saying that David understood that out of his
- 21:31lineage the Lion of Judah would come, but he was from eternal.
- 21:37What a paradox, what an idea. 32 This Jesus has God raised up,
- 21:44whereof we are all witnesses. There's that apostleship,
- 21:49there's that martyrdom, these witnesses. 33 Therefore, being
- 21:54by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of
- 21:58the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has shed forth
- 22:02this which you now see and hear. So he's talking about this
- 22:07outpouring of the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost. 34 For
- 22:15David is not ascended into the heavens.
- 22:17But he said unto himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit you
- 22:22on my right hand, 35 until I make your foes your footstool.
- 22:2736 Therefore let all the House of Israel know assuredly that
- 22:34God has made the same Jesus, whom you've crucified, both Lord
- 22:39and Christ. So here Peter is painting a
- 22:43masterpiece for them. He's showing them line by line,
- 22:47precept on precept. He's walking them through the
- 22:50Scriptures to show them that they murdered their Messiah,
- 22:55that they need not wait on another, that he was in their
- 22:59midst and they murdered him. And now he's ascended to the
- 23:02right hand of God, and he sits to make intercession for you and
- 23:06for me. And there is only one way to the
- 23:08Father, and that is through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. 37
- 23:15Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and
- 23:21said unto Peter, and to the rest of the apostles.
- 23:25Men, brothers, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them,
- 23:34Repent, be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus
- 23:42Christ, for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the
- 23:47gift of the Holy Ghost. So imagine that these men were
- 23:50mocking and saying that the disciples and apostles were
- 23:54drunk at 9:00 in the morning. And now after Peter preaches the
- 24:00sermon about Scripture, fulfilling Scripture, their
- 24:06prick to their heart, and now they're ready for radical
- 24:09obedience. I pray that you're there.
- 24:13I pray that you're filled with the Holy Ghost today.
- 24:15I pray that you haven't quenched the Holy Ghost, and I pray that
- 24:18you are not searing your conscience today.
- 24:21Turn off the noise. Get out of the rat race.
- 24:26Be still and know that He's God and allow him to dwell and allow
- 24:30that fire to be fanned, that flame to be fanned.
- 24:34Fill your oil. You cannot go to your brother or
- 24:38sister and ask for their oil. You must fill up your own lamp,
- 24:4739 for the promises unto you, and to your children, and to all
- 24:52that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
- 24:57So he's saying that the gospel is for the whole world, not just
- 25:01for the Jews. We see a lot of Messianic Jews
- 25:05coming into the fold today. Praise God, Hallelujah, they're
- 25:09finally getting it. And we can see that technology
- 25:13has brought about such a division and there are many that
- 25:18are choosing to go to hell. There are many that are paying
- 25:21attention to all of the satanic garbage.
- 25:24But the double edged sword, the tree of good and evil, is that
- 25:30there are many who are seeing the gospel presentation and
- 25:34putting their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the first time.
- 25:38What an amazing time that we live in.
- 25:40What an exciting time that we live in.
- 25:43We're getting to see so many different prophecies coming to
- 25:47fruition in our day right now under our nose, and we would do
- 25:52well to lock in to make sure that we know that God is moving
- 25:57mightily in this world. 40 And with many other words did he
- 26:05testify, exhort, saying, save yourselves from this untoward
- 26:10generation. So Peter was never lacking in
- 26:15his ability to open his mouth and to speak.
- 26:19He spoke what needed to be said, but he went on to tell them to
- 26:24turn from all of their wicked ways. 41 Then they that gladly
- 26:31received his word were baptized. In the same day.
- 26:34There were added unto them about 3000 souls.
- 26:39Praise God. Hallelujah.
- 26:40Jesus said that they would do greater things when the
- 26:44comforter came. And you can see here that Peter
- 26:47preached a simple sermon and 3000 people made a love decision
- 26:52for the Lord Jesus Christ sold out bondservants of our Lord in
- 26:58one day. Praise God God for this
- 27:00outpouring of the Holy Ghost upon the early church. 42 And
- 27:05they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and
- 27:09fellowship, and in breaking of bread and in prayers.
- 27:12So here you can see that the apostles made sure that they
- 27:17taught all the words of the Lord Jesus Christ that were spoken to
- 27:21them up on the Mount of Transfiguration, out on the
- 27:26boat, out in the water when calming the sea, whenever they
- 27:29were with him, to watch the Lazarus get raised from the
- 27:32dead. All the words of the Lord Jesus
- 27:34Christ they had put together to teach all of these new converts.
- 27:4143 Fear came upon every soul. Many wonders and signs were done
- 27:51by the apostles. So here we need to understand
- 27:57that there's such an atmosphere of purity, and this is what it
- 28:06means to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
- 28:11When the glory of God, the Shekinah glory, encompasses you,
- 28:17you cannot even minister, you cannot even speak.
- 28:21It is nothing but awe and wonder at His face. 44 And all that
- 28:27believed were together, and had all things in common. 45 and
- 28:32sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all
- 28:36men, as every man had need. 46 And they continuing daily with 1
- 28:43accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to
- 28:47house, they did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of
- 28:51heart. 47 praising God, and having favor with all the
- 28:55people, and the Lord added to the church daily such as should
- 29:00be saved. This is not communism, this is
- 29:09them coming together and understanding the mind of
- 29:11Christ. This is the Holy Spirit thick in
- 29:15their midst. This is them relying not on
- 29:17their own understanding, but relying on the moving of the
- 29:20Holy Ghost. And it pleased the Lord that
- 29:24they would give up everything to start the church that you and I
- 29:30are so privileged to be a part of.
- 29:35We need to make sure that we are in tune with the Holy Ghost and
- 29:39walking in the Spirit and we will know what He desires for us
- 29:43for this day, for this hour, for right now.
- 29:47This is not something we just need to look back on and wonder
- 29:52about. This is something that we need
- 29:54to live out today in this very day for this time. 1 accord, 1
- 30:00mind, which is the mind of Christ.
- 30:03There's been a lot of wolves in sheep's clothings who have gone
- 30:10on and who will go on to be false Christ and false messiahs.
- 30:16And they are taking advantage of the ones who just want to be
- 30:21spoon fed. And the way that we can
- 30:24safeguard against these cultic leaders who try to start all
- 30:29this garbage, it's by getting in the word, understanding the
- 30:32word, owning the word, memorizing the word, hiding the
- 30:36word, studying the word. So when the counterfeit comes
- 30:40across, we can get out before it's too late, before the trap
- 30:46snaps on us, we need to make sure that we are in tune and
- 30:52walking lock step with the Holy Ghost.
- 30:56I hope you've been blessed by this chapter here in Acts.
- 31:00This is a famous chapter that you are going to hear get quoted
- 31:05the longer you stay in the faith.
- 31:07People look back to this time, this Acts 2 church, but we need
- 31:12to be living it out today. This is not of antiquity.
- 31:17This is relevant for today. I'm praying for you and I love
- 31:26you. We'll see you back here
- 31:32tomorrow. God bless you.
