- 0:01Welcome to the Daily Audio Torah. Today is September
- 0:0422nd. Now let's continue our journey reading through the
- 0:08entire Bible in one year. This week we are reading from the New
- 0:12Living Translation for the Old Testament and for the New Testament.
- 0:19Deuteronomy 30:1-10.
- 0:23In the future, when you experience all these blessings and
- 0:27curses I have listed for you, and when you are living among the nations to
- 0:30which the Lord your God has exiled you.
- 0:34Take to heart all these instructions.
- 0:37If at that time you and your children return to the Lord your God,
- 0:42and if you obey with all your heart and all your soul all
- 0:46the commands I have given you today, then the Lord
- 0:50your God will restore your fortunes. He will have mercy on you and gather
- 0:55you back from all the nations where he has scattered you.
- 0:59Even though you are banished to the ends of the earth, the Lord
- 1:04your God will gather you from there and bring you back. The Lord your God
- 1:07will return you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you
- 1:11will possess that land again. Then he will make you even
- 1:15more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors.
- 1:20The Lord your God will change your heart and the hearts of all your descendants
- 1:24so that you will love him with all your heart and soul, and though
- 1:27you may live. The Lord your God will inflict
- 1:31all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate
- 1:35and persecute you. Then you will again
- 1:39obey the Lord and keep all his commands that I am giving you
- 1:42today. The Lord
- 1:46your God will then make you successful in everything you do. He will give
- 1:50you many children and numerous livestock, And He will cause
- 1:53your fields to produce abundant harvests. For the
- 1:57Lord will again delight in being good to you as He was
- 2:01to your ancestors. The Lord your God will delight in you
- 2:05if you obey His voice and keep the commands and decrees written
- 2:09in this book of instruction, and if you
- 2:13turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and soul.
- 2:21Isaiah 39:1-41:16.
- 2:29Soon after this, Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of
- 2:33Babylon, sent Hezekiah his best wishes and
- 2:37a gift. He had heard that Hezekiah had been very sick and
- 2:42that he had recovered. Hezekiah welcomed the Babylonian envoys and showed
- 2:46them everything in his treasure houses— the silver, the gold,
- 2:50the spices, and the aromatic oils. He also took
- 2:54them to see his armory and showed them all his other treasures—
- 2:57everything. There was nothing in his palace or kingdom that
- 3:01Hezekiah did not show them. Then Isaiah the prophet went to
- 3:07King Hezekiah and asked him, where— what did those men
- 3:10want? Where were they from?
- 3:13Hezekiah replied, They came from a distant land of
- 3:17Babylon. What did they see in your palace? asked Isaiah.
- 3:22They saw everything, Hezekiah replied. I showed
- 3:25them everything I own, all my treasures.
- 3:30Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, Listen to this message from the Lord Almighty.
- 3:35The time is coming when everything you have, all the treasures
- 3:38stored up by your ancestors, will be carried off to Babylon.
- 3:42Nothing will be left, says the Lord. Some of your own descendants will be taken
- 3:45away into exile. They will become
- 3:49eunuchs who will serve in the palace of Babylon's king.
- 3:54Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, this message you have given
- 3:58me from the Lord is good. But the king was thinking,
- 4:01at least there will be peace and security during my lifetime.
- 4:05Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly
- 4:09to Jerusalem. Tell her that her sad days are gone
- 4:13and that her sins are pardoned. Yes,
- 4:16the Lord has punished her in full for all her sins.
- 4:19Listen! I hear the voice of someone shouting, Make a
- 4:23highway for the Lord through the wilderness! Make a straight, smooth road through
- 4:27the desert for our God! Fill the valleys and level the hills; straighten
- 4:31out the curves and smooth off the rough spots.
- 4:35Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will
- 4:38see it together. The Lord has
- 4:42spoken. A voice said, shout! I asked, what should
- 4:46I shout? Shout that people are like the grass that dies away.
- 4:51Their beauty fades as quickly as the beauty of flowers in a field.
- 4:55The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the Lord,
- 4:59and so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers
- 5:03fade, but the word of our God stands forever.
- 5:07Messenger of good news, shout to Zion from the mountaintops!
- 5:11Shout louder to Jerusalem! Do not be afraid!
- 5:15Tell the towns of Judah, your God is coming! Yes,
- 5:18the Sovereign Lord is coming in all his glorious power.
- 5:22He will rule with awesome strength. See, he brings
- 5:26his reward with him as he comes. He will feed
- 5:30his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them
- 5:34close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother
- 5:37sheep with their young. Who else has held the oceans in
- 5:41His hand? Who has measured off the heavens with His fingers?
- 5:46Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed out
- 5:49the mountains and the hills? Who is able to advise the Spirit
- 5:53of the Lord? Who knows enough to be His teacher or counselor?
- 5:57Has the Lord ever needed anyone's advice?
- 6:00Does He need instruction about what is good or what is best?
- 6:04No, for all the nations of the world are nothing in
- 6:08comparison with him. They are but a drop in the
- 6:11bucket, dust on the scales. He picks up the islands
- 6:15as though they had no weight at all. All Lebanon's forests
- 6:19do not contain sufficient fuel to consume a sacrifice
- 6:23large enough to honor him. All Lebanon's sacrificial animals
- 6:27would not make an offering worthy of our God.
- 6:30The nations of the world are as nothing to him.
- 6:35In his eyes, they are less than nothing, mere emptiness and froth.
- 6:40To whom then can we compare God? What image might we
- 6:44find to resemble him? Can he be compared to an idol formed
- 6:48in a mold, overlaid with gold and decorated with silver chains?
- 6:52Or is a poor person's wooden idol better?
- 6:56Can God be compared to an idol that must be placed on
- 6:59a stand so it won't fall down. Have you never heard or understood?
- 7:04Are you deaf to the words of God, the words he gave before
- 7:08the world began? Are you so ignorant? It is God who
- 7:12sits above the circle of the earth. The people below must
- 7:16seem to him like grasshoppers. He is the one who spreads out
- 7:20the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them.
- 7:24He judges the great people of the world and brings them all to nothing.
- 7:28They hardly get started, barely taking root, When He
- 7:32blows on them and their work withers, the wind carries them
- 7:35off like straw. To whom will you compare Me?
- 7:39Who is My equal? asks the Holy One. Look up into
- 7:43the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them
- 7:47out one after another, calling each by its name. And He counts
- 7:51them to see that none are lost or have strayed away.
- 7:55O Israel, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles?
- 7:58How can you say God refuses to hear your case?
- 8:02Have you never heard or understood? Don't you know that the Lord
- 8:06is the everlasting God, the Creator of all
- 8:10the earth? He never grows faint or weary.
- 8:13No one can measure the depths of His understanding. He gives
- 8:18power to those who are tired and worn out. He offers
- 8:22strength to the weak. Even youths will become
- 8:25exhausted and young men will give up. But those who wait on
- 8:29the Lord will find new strength. They will
- 8:32fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and
- 8:36not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
- 8:41Listen in silence before me, you lands
- 8:45beyond the sea. Bring your strongest arguments.
- 8:48Come now and speak. The court is ready for your case.
- 8:52Who has stirred up this king from the east who meets victory at every step?
- 8:56Who indeed but the Lord? He gives him victory
- 8:59over many nations and permits him to trample their kings underfoot.
- 9:04He puts entire armies to the sword; he scatters them in
- 9:07the wind with his bow. He chases them away and goes on safely,
- 9:12though he is walking over unfamiliar ground. Who has done
- 9:16such mighty deeds, directing the affairs of the human race
- 9:19as each new generation marches by? It is I, the Lord,
- 9:24the First and the Last. I alone am He.
- 9:28The lands beyond the sea watch in fear. Remote lands
- 9:32tremble and mobilize for war. They encourage one another
- 9:36with the words, Be strong! The craftsmen rush
- 9:39to make new idols. The carver hurries the goldsmith,
- 9:43and the molder helps at the anvil. Good, they say,
- 9:46it's coming along fine. Carefully, they join
- 9:50the parts together and then fasten the thing in place so
- 9:53it won't fall over. But as for you,
- 9:56Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from
- 10:00my friend Abraham, I have called you back from the ends of the
- 10:04earth so you can serve me. For I have chosen you and will
- 10:08not throw you away. Don't be afraid, for I am with
- 10:12you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
- 10:16I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold
- 10:20you with my victorious right hand. See,
- 10:24all your angry enemies lie there confused and ashamed.
- 10:28Anyone who opposes you will die. You will look for them in
- 10:32vain. They will all be gone. I am holding you by your right hand,
- 10:36I, the Lord your God, and I say to you,
- 10:40do not be afraid. I am here to help you. Despised though
- 10:44you are, O Israel, don't be afraid, for I will
- 10:47help you. I am the Lord your Redeemer. I am the Holy
- 10:51One of Israel. You will be a new threshing instrument
- 10:54with many sharp teeth. You will tear all your
- 10:58enemies apart, making chaff of mountains.
- 11:04You will toss them in the air, and the wind will blow them all away.
- 11:08A whirlwind will scatter them, and the joy of the Lord will fill
- 11:12you to overflowing. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.
- 11:19Ephesians 1:1-23.
- 11:24This letter is from Paul, chosen by God to be an apostle of Christ
- 11:28Jesus. It is written to God's holy people in Ephesus
- 11:32who are faithful followers of Christ. May grace
- 11:35and peace be yours, sent to you from God our Father and Jesus
- 11:39Christ our Lord. How we praise God the Father of our Lord Jesus
- 11:44Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms
- 11:48because we belong to Christ. Long ago, even before
- 11:52he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ
- 11:56to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His unchanging
- 12:00plan has always been to adopt us into
- 12:04his own family by bringing us to himself through
- 12:08Christ Jesus, and this gave him great pleasure.
- 12:13So we praise God for the wonderful kindness He has poured out
- 12:17on us because we belong to His dearly loved Son.
- 12:21He is so rich in kindness that He purchased our
- 12:25freedom through the blood of His Son, and our sins are forgiven.
- 12:29God's secret plan has now been revealed
- 12:33to us. It is a plan centered on Christ,
- 12:36designed long ago according to his good pleasure.
- 12:40And this is his plan: at the right time he will bring
- 12:44everything together under the authority of Christ, everything in
- 12:48heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because of
- 12:52Christ we have received an inheritance from God, for he
- 12:55chose us from the beginning, and all things
- 12:59happen just as he decided long ago.
- 13:03God's purpose was that we who were first to trust in Christ
- 13:08should praise our glorious God. And now you also
- 13:12have heard the truth, the good news that God saves you.
- 13:15And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as
- 13:19his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised
- 13:23long ago. The Spirit is God's guarantee that
- 13:27he will give us everything he promised and that He
- 13:30has purchased us to be His own people. This is just one
- 13:34more reason for us to praise our glorious God.
- 13:38Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus
- 13:42and your love for Christians everywhere, I have never stopped thanking
- 13:46God for you. I pray for you constantly,
- 13:50asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
- 13:54to give you spiritual, wisdom and understanding
- 13:58so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.
- 14:01I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so
- 14:06that you can understand the wonderful future He has promised to those
- 14:10He called. I want you to realize what a rich and
- 14:15glorious inheritance He has given to His people.
- 14:18I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness
- 14:23of his power for us who believe him. This is
- 14:26the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and
- 14:30seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly
- 14:34realms. Now he is far above any ruler
- 14:38or authority or power or leader or anything else in
- 14:42this world or in the world to come. And God
- 14:46has put all things under the authority of Christ, And he gave
- 14:50him this authority for the benefit of the church.
- 14:54And the church is his body. It is filled
- 14:58by Christ, who fills everything everywhere with
- 15:02his presence.
- 15:06Psalm 66:1-20.
- 15:10Shout joyful praises to God, all the earth! Sing about
- 15:15the glory of his name! Tell the world how glorious He is!
- 15:20Say to God, how awesome are Your deeds!
- 15:24Your enemies cringe before Your mighty power.
- 15:27Everything on earth will worship You. They will sing Your praises,
- 15:31shouting Your name in glorious songs. Come and see what our God has
- 15:35done, what awesome miracles He has done
- 15:38for His people! He made a dry path through the Red
- 15:42Sea, and his people went across on foot.
- 15:46Come, let us rejoice in who he is,
- 15:49for by his great power he rules forever.
- 15:52He watches every movement of the nations. Let no
- 15:56rebel rise in defiance.
- 16:00Let the whole world bless our God and sing aloud his praises.
- 16:04Our lives are in his hands, and he keeps our feet from stumbling.
- 16:08You have tested us, O God. You have purified us like silver melted
- 16:12in a crucible. You captured us in your net and laid
- 16:16the burden of slavery on our backs. You sent troops
- 16:20to ride across our broken bodies. We went through fire and flood,
- 16:24but you brought us to a place of great abundance.
- 16:28Now I come to your temple with burnt offerings to fulfill the
- 16:33vows I made to you. Yes, the sacred vows you heard
- 16:36me make when I was in deep trouble. That is why I
- 16:40am sacrificing burnt offerings to you, the best
- 16:44of my rams as a pleasing aroma, and I will sacrifice bulls
- 16:48and goats. Come and listen, all you who
- 16:52fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me. For I cried
- 16:56out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not
- 17:00confessed the sin of my heart, my Lord would
- 17:03not have listened. But God did
- 17:07listen. He paid attention to my prayer.
- 17:11Praise God who did not ignore my prayer and did not withdraw
- 17:15his unfailing love for me.
- 17:19Proverbs 23:25-28.
- 17:23So give your parents joy. May she who gave you
- 17:26birth be happy. Oh my son, give me your heart.
- 17:30May your eyes delight in my ways of wisdom. A prostitute
- 17:35is a deep pit. An adulterous woman is treacherous.
- 17:39She hides and waits like a robber looking for another victim
- 17:43who will be unfaithful to his wife.
- 17:49I want to speak to you today from our reading from Ephesians.
- 17:54Chapter 1, and there's some really
- 17:58deep, rich truth that comes out of this chapter.
- 18:04I want to begin with verse
- 18:114 where it's written,
- 18:14just as He— that is Jesus— chose us in Him
- 18:19before the foundation of the world,
- 18:23that we should be holy and without blame before
- 18:27Him in love.
- 18:32Now let us think about that. He chose
- 18:36us in Him before the foundation of the world. He knew you.
- 18:43So before you were born, before you were conceived,
- 18:46you were a spirit. And He knew your spirit
- 18:51before He ever said, let there be light. He knew you and
- 18:55He chose you to be holy and without blame.
- 19:01In verse 5, having predestined us to adoption
- 19:04as sons and daughters by Jesus Christ to Himself
- 19:08according to the good pleasure of His will.
- 19:13So He's predestined us. He's chosen us to be adopted
- 19:18into the family of God.
- 19:21So this gets into a fascinating topic.
- 19:26There's really no simple answer, and it's something that's been debated and
- 19:30discussed for centuries: the sovereignty of God
- 19:34versus the free will of man.
- 19:38Did I choose Jesus? And ask Him to come into my heart,
- 19:42or did He choose me? Did He
- 19:46predestine and choose me before the foundation of the world to
- 19:50be a daughter of the Most High? Yes,
- 19:54and both. We have
- 19:59a free will. God does not violate our free
- 20:02will. If someone refuses Jesus and does not want to
- 20:06walk with Him and wants to walk in their own way and not in
- 20:09God's way, Jesus is a perfect gentleman, and He does not
- 20:14violate somebody's free will. But I think where
- 20:18this is going is that He knows ahead of time how
- 20:22we're going to choose. Verse 7: He—
- 20:27Jesus— is so rich in kindness that He purchased our freedom
- 20:32through the blood of His Son, and our sins are forgiven.
- 20:38He has showered His kindness on us along with all wisdom and
- 20:42understanding. If you just meditate
- 20:46on that and think about that for just a moment,
- 20:50the kindness that He has,
- 20:54that He was willing to lay down His life and die and
- 20:57suffer and go through a horrible, excruciating,
- 21:01painful death To purchase our freedom, our freedom
- 21:05from sin, our freedom from our flesh, from our selfishness,
- 21:09from our pride.
- 21:14Verse 9: God's secret plan has now been
- 21:18revealed to us. It is a plan centered on Christ,
- 21:22designed long ago according to His good
- 21:25pleasure. And this is His plan: At
- 21:30the right time, he will bring everything together under the authority
- 21:34of Christ— everything in heaven and on earth.
- 21:38Furthermore, because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God,
- 21:42for he chose us from the beginning, and all things happen
- 21:46just as he decided long ago.
- 21:51So he has a plan.
- 21:57And there's a day coming when
- 22:01He will be in authority over everything.
- 22:07Everything will come together under the authority of Christ. Right now,
- 22:11Satan is having a field day on
- 22:16planet Earth, and he's wreaking havoc and bringing division
- 22:19and bringing strife and bringing wars.
- 22:22And bringing all kinds of terrible things that happen
- 22:26to people. But there's a day coming
- 22:31when Jesus will rule and reign over all of
- 22:35creation, over the heavens and the earth, and the enemy
- 22:39Satan will no longer have any free rein upon the earth.
- 22:47Verse 18, I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light
- 22:53so that you can understand the wonderful future
- 22:56He has promised to those He
- 23:00has called. In the New
- 23:04Living Translation or in the New
- 23:07King James Version, that verse is a little
- 23:11bit different. The eyes— I pray that the eyes of your understanding
- 23:15would be enlightened so that you may
- 23:18know what is the hope of His calling, what are
- 23:22the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.
- 23:30I think that sometimes our vision gets
- 23:34clouded. Our vision gets dim,
- 23:38even dark. It's almost like we're wearing
- 23:42a blindfold. Or, you know, we're in a dark room and
- 23:46we need the lights turned on. We need to be able to see clearly.
- 23:50That's a really wonderful prayer.
- 23:53Father, I do pray and agree with Paul
- 23:57in his prayer. He's prayed for the Ephesians.
- 24:01I pray this for each of us, those of us listening.
- 24:05I pray that our hearts will be flooded with
- 24:09light so that we will understand the wonderful
- 24:14future that God has promised to each of us.
- 24:22So verse 20,
- 24:25the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and
- 24:29seated Him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the
- 24:33heavenly realms— that's tremendous power. The power
- 24:37of God that raised Him from the dead. And now Jesus ascended,
- 24:40and He now sits at the right hand of the Father in the heavenly realm.
- 24:44Now He is far above any ruler or
- 24:47authority or power or leader or anything else in this world or
- 24:52in the world to come. And God has put all things
- 24:57under the authority of Christ, and He gave Him this authority
- 25:01for the benefit of the church. And the church is
- 25:05His body. It is filled by Christ
- 25:09who fills everything everywhere with His presence.
- 25:13There's a couple of things here I want to unpack.
- 25:17God has put all things under the authority of Christ.
- 25:23So Jesus rules
- 25:27and reigns and has authority over, and then you fill in the blank.
- 25:32Over your singleness, over your divorce,
- 25:36over your finances, over your children
- 25:40who have wandered away from the faith, over your
- 25:43job situation. You fill in the blank.
- 25:46Whatever it is that you are struggling with that you would like to see a
- 25:50breakthrough, you would like to see a change, Christ has
- 25:54authority over all.
- 25:58And you— he has authority over my children,
- 26:01over my family, over my spouse, over my job,
- 26:05over my whole life pathway.
- 26:11He has authority. And so we are to just
- 26:16remember that and cling to that and
- 26:20line ourselves up with that. And here's the other thought
- 26:23I want to unpack. He gave him this authority. Why?
- 26:27For the benefit of the church. And the church
- 26:31is His body.
- 26:35It is filled by Christ who fills everything everywhere with His presence.
- 26:40Beloved, we need to stop bashing the church.
- 26:43We need to stop blaming the church. We need to stop accusing
- 26:48the church. Now, we are to use discernment.
- 26:52You don't want to be in a church that is woke, that has departed
- 26:56from the Scriptures, that doesn't teach that the Bible, every word
- 27:01of it, is the inerrant Word of God. You want to be in a
- 27:05Bible-believing, Bible-teaching church.
- 27:08But having said that,
- 27:12once you're in a church, let's edify the church. Let's build
- 27:16it up. Let's affirm it. Let's support it. With our finances,
- 27:20with our energy, with our time, with our presence, with our fellowship.
- 27:26The church is the body of Christ. The church
- 27:29is the bride of Christ,
- 27:33and His Spirit fills the
- 27:38church. So let's not be church-bashing.
- 27:43If you're in a woke church or a church that has departed from the
- 27:47Word of God and is no longer teaching the word,
- 27:51beloved, depart. Get into a Bible-believing,
- 27:54Bible-teaching church. But once you're in that church,
- 27:57stand strong with it. Support the church. Pray for the
- 28:02pastor. Pray for the leaders. Serve,
- 28:05fellowship, worship,
- 28:08be involved, stay connected. The church
- 28:12is your local family, spiritual family where you can connect.
- 28:20We'll continue Ephesians tomorrow. Have a blessed day.
