- 0:01Speaker 1: Would you guys agree that when things get twice here
- 0:05Speaker 1: we have debate in our show, it comes very naturally
- 0:07Speaker 1: and organically. Like some shows it gets hot for a while.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Other shows it's just like a normal day and we're
- 0:15Speaker 1: going over what's happening. Yeah, okay, well, I'm just asking.
- 0:20Speaker 1: This isn't even coming from comments or anything. But you know,
- 0:23Speaker 1: the way that podcasting and even sports radio and TV
- 0:28Speaker 1: like debate shows kind of became what they are is
- 0:30Speaker 1: that they'd have these production meetings they figure out what
- 0:32Speaker 1: they're going to fight over and take sides and whatever.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Like, we don't do that.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So I was just thinking, because I feel as if
- 0:38Speaker 1: today's show will have some heavy debate back and forth.
- 0:42Speaker 1: But then I think back to other days when I'm
- 0:43Speaker 1: just like, yeah, we're just running through the news and
- 0:45Speaker 1: what's happening, and sometimes we all agree on everything. So
- 0:48Speaker 1: I just want to say that if you want to
- 0:50Speaker 1: have a show and just do what you want and
- 0:52Speaker 1: say what you want, you actually can do it.
- 0:54Speaker 2: You don't have to fabricate it, that's all.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Well, I agree is that the Mets really need to
- 0:57Speaker 3: win a game today. With Nolan McClain pitching.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Agree, crats you agree didn't lose.
- 1:02Speaker 3: They didn't lose yesterday, that's true. I just I think
- 1:06Speaker 3: this today is the day they really really need to win.
- 1:10Speaker 3: I mean, they have their best guy going. It's a
- 1:13Speaker 3: Twins team that's been on the struggles.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Who's pitching for the Twins was Richardson six. Hey, the
- 1:21Speaker 2: only thing, the only thing that will.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Cure him the Mets offense.
- 1:24Speaker 1: And he used to be in the organization. And I
- 1:27Speaker 1: believe in that stuff. Pitching with a little extra juice.
- 1:31Speaker 3: No, I don't believe. I mean I do believe in that. Yes,
- 1:35Speaker 3: Nolan mc and this is not this I guess it
- 1:38Speaker 3: is a knock on Simeon Wizards. But Nolan McLain should
- 1:40Speaker 3: be able to beat Simey and Woodards straight up in
- 1:42Speaker 3: the game.
- 1:43Speaker 2: But Nolan clan might go six and two third shutout.
- 1:46Speaker 3: And someone sitting for the Mets, I don't know who
- 1:50Speaker 3: it's going to be. Someone's gonna have a big.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Well, we'll get to all of that. Let's start with
- 1:56Speaker 2: some juice here, we charge them out.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Charge about.
- 2:05Speaker 1: We're actually going to start with the Colorado Rockies and
- 2:08Speaker 1: this story from Dennis Lynn, which he replugged here. The
- 2:11Speaker 1: Rockies have been suggesting pitches from the dug out this season,
- 2:15Speaker 1: as Colorado attempts its first four game series win against
- 2:18Speaker 1: the Dodgers since twenty eighteen. Here's more in a practice
- 2:21Speaker 1: some baseball people think will eventually sweep the league. Now
- 2:23Speaker 1: this came out yesterday morning. The Rockies lost to the Dodgers.
- 2:26Speaker 1: They end up splitting the series. But still that's a
- 2:28Speaker 1: huge success for a franchise that was brutal last year.
- 2:31Speaker 1: And I'm not saying this particular pitch calling has anything
- 2:34Speaker 1: to do with them winning or not in a four
- 2:37Speaker 1: game set. The point is we want to bring this
- 2:39Speaker 1: up as it's starting to grow in the league. Kratz
- 2:42Speaker 1: did a great segment on It weeks back with Alana
- 2:45Speaker 1: when those two were on the show. Aj I wasn't
- 2:47Speaker 1: on that show. You guys are smart catchers that host
- 2:49Speaker 1: a show every day. So let's dive into this. We
- 2:51Speaker 1: now have the Marlins involved. The guy who does this
- 2:53Speaker 1: for the Rockies was with the Marlins. They bring them over.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Now the Rockies are in. The Rockies are suggesting pitches.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Take that for what it is, this college baseball.
- 3:03Speaker 3: A lot life suggesting.
- 3:05Speaker 2: They're indicating what they this is gonna.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Be the norm. Let's just get it out there. It's
- 3:09Speaker 3: gonna be the norm.
- 3:10Speaker 2: In the whole league.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Once Salvador Perez, once j t Reil Muto, once some
- 3:15Speaker 3: of those older guys that play every day go away.
- 3:18Speaker 3: This is gonna be the norm because they're gonna say
- 3:21Speaker 3: we can do it better. Even though these guys, probably
- 3:24Speaker 3: most some of them sitting in the dug out are
- 3:25Speaker 3: probably never call pitches in their life. And I just
- 3:28Speaker 3: go and I just go back to this. Here's the thing.
- 3:31Speaker 3: You want to call the pitches from the dugout. Don't
- 3:34Speaker 3: get maud of the catcher, and don't get out of
- 3:36Speaker 3: the pitcher when they give up hits or runs. It's
- 3:38Speaker 3: not their fault. It's your fault, whoever's calling the pitches.
- 3:42Speaker 3: And the biggest thing I'll never get is Don Cooper
- 3:44Speaker 3: are all pitching coach of the White Sox. We call,
- 3:46Speaker 3: you know, let me call the game. We hang a
- 3:48Speaker 3: slider and the guy to get a hit, he say,
- 3:50Speaker 3: why'd you throw the slider? I go, Coop, you want
- 3:52Speaker 3: to call the pitches, we can go fastball, in, fastball, away, curveball, slider,
- 3:57Speaker 3: change up. You call them all first signed, last time,
- 4:00Speaker 3: whatever sign you want go for it. He goes, I
- 4:02Speaker 3: don't want that pressure exactly. Shut up, he goes. Listen,
- 4:06Speaker 3: if you're calling from the dugout, you can't give out
- 4:09Speaker 3: anybody but yourself, and you can't give out anybody but
- 4:12Speaker 3: the computer. And by the way, the guys don't always
- 4:15Speaker 3: have the same stuff every day, and that's hard to
- 4:17Speaker 3: see from the side when you're not back there kitchen,
- 4:19Speaker 3: that's my thing like and plus guys move in the box. Guy,
- 4:23Speaker 3: you gotta read swings. It's hard to read that stuff
- 4:26Speaker 3: from the dugout.
- 4:27Speaker 4: There's no way, AJ, there's no way you're reading anything
- 4:30Speaker 4: from the field that you can't see from the dugout.
- 4:33Speaker 4: It doesn't matter because the sheet says it's fine. The
- 4:38Speaker 4: sheet says he cannot hit a splitter. Let's throw five
- 4:42Speaker 4: splitters in a row. The quote the air quotes have
- 4:46Speaker 4: suggested is the part that I'm going to hit on
- 4:49Speaker 4: today because I hit on a lot yesterday and a
- 4:52Speaker 4: or I mean last time we talked about this, and
- 4:54Speaker 4: AJ just hit on everything possible that can go wrong, suggested.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Part is alone Leashman, Leishman getting fired if this doesn't
- 5:07Speaker 4: go well. No, he's getting fired either way because the
- 5:13Speaker 4: team didn't bring in the best pitcher, so they're trying
- 5:15Speaker 4: something new. I get that they're trying something that could
- 5:22Speaker 4: be innovative, but really they're a half a year behind
- 5:24Speaker 4: the Marlins, a year behind the Marlins, whatever it is,
- 5:28Speaker 4: and they're doing it because exactly what who said it?
- 5:35Speaker 3: Freelan? Was it Freelan that said it?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yes, said we stink, so let's try something. And also
- 5:41Speaker 1: real quick crats alone. Leishman is the guy who's calling
- 5:44Speaker 1: pitches now for the Rockies. He was the assistant pitching
- 5:47Speaker 1: coach for the Marlins and now his title is first
- 5:51Speaker 1: year pitching coach. So they brought him over.
- 5:54Speaker 4: They brought him over because of this gimmick. They brought
- 5:56Speaker 4: him over because of the fact that he has it
- 5:58Speaker 4: on his resume that hey, we're doing this over here
- 6:01Speaker 4: with the Marlins. Wow, look at all the pictures that
- 6:03Speaker 4: the Marlins created. You know who created those pictures. It's
- 6:07Speaker 4: a guy the Marlins fired. It's Jeremy Jeremy Powell. He
- 6:12Speaker 4: was the minor league pitching coordinator that created these relationships
- 6:15Speaker 4: with these guys and created that Well, this guy was
- 6:19Speaker 4: helping with the Marlins, and now he gets to create
- 6:23Speaker 4: a spreadsheet, create a PowerPoint to get a job and says,
- 6:26Speaker 4: you know what, I think this could work. What do
- 6:29Speaker 4: the Rockies have to lose? The Rockies say, oh, it's
- 6:32Speaker 4: so tough to pitch in Colorado. And if he would
- 6:35Speaker 4: have said no, no, no, well we're calling that's what
- 6:40Speaker 4: we're throwing out there, that's what you guys are throwing.
- 6:42Speaker 4: And you go out in the media and say it's.
- 6:45Speaker 3: On me if this goes bad.
- 6:48Speaker 4: And I don't know these guys, I don't know alone
- 6:50Speaker 4: at all, but my thing is you have to have ownership.
- 6:54Speaker 4: You can't just say this is suggested so that you're
- 6:58Speaker 4: covering your back. Well, the pictures can do with they
- 7:00Speaker 4: want to do. And so okay, so are we charting
- 7:02Speaker 4: every time that the pitcher shook off? And are you
- 7:05Speaker 4: only bringing up the the good times or the bad
- 7:08Speaker 4: times when the pitcher gives up a hit and you're
- 7:10Speaker 4: not bringing up the bad times when the computer gives
- 7:13Speaker 4: up a hit. It's just like Coop said, don your
- 7:16Speaker 4: pitching coach. He was he was just he never was like,
- 7:19Speaker 4: hey day, why did you call that slider that the
- 7:21Speaker 4: guy swung and missed at? No, it's just all results
- 7:25Speaker 4: based and if you're not willing to stand up and
- 7:27Speaker 4: be like I called it, this is why, then your
- 7:31Speaker 4: team doesn't get better. All you're doing is just check
- 7:34Speaker 4: we threw pitch number sixty three. Check we threw pitch
- 7:37Speaker 4: number sixty four. Hey, you know what the numbers said.
- 7:39Speaker 4: This is what we should have done, because teams are
- 7:42Speaker 4: going to sit there and start going, oh, well, I
- 7:45Speaker 4: hit fifty six on two to two sliders, so we're
- 7:49Speaker 4: facing the rockies. They're definitely throwing me at two to
- 7:53Speaker 4: two slider because that's the like, that's what the computer
- 7:56Speaker 4: says it'll be. It'll be very predictable, and it's not
- 7:58Speaker 4: going to forge winning winning a world series. To me
- 8:02Speaker 4: is those little things that create playoff teams, that create
- 8:06Speaker 4: world series winning teams.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Support for today's episode comes from Square, and they've got
- 8:14Speaker 1: big news. During Squar's biannual Releases event, they launched a
- 8:17Speaker 1: wave of innovative new tools to help local businesses run faster, smarter,
- 8:21Speaker 1: and more profitably. Squares awesome. Around Orlando, where AJ and
- 8:25Speaker 1: I live. We go to the farmers' markets around town.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I go to the one near Lake Iola. It's awesome.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I use Square to pay with my phone I get
- 8:32Speaker 1: the receipt right away.
- 8:33Speaker 2: It's great.
- 8:34Speaker 3: And so many businesses, not just small businesses, uses so
- 8:36Speaker 3: many restaurants and businesses I walk into, not only in Orlando,
- 8:39Speaker 3: but all over the country have these and you just
- 8:42Speaker 3: use your credit card, pops out a receipt, emails it
- 8:45Speaker 3: right to you. It's so fast, it's so efficient, it's
- 8:48Speaker 3: so hassle free. It's one of the great things that
- 8:50Speaker 3: you have going.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Square launched its most powerful tools yet, designed to give
- 8:54Speaker 1: local businesses a competitive edge without the complexity. If you're
- 8:57Speaker 1: ready to sell smarter, run faster, and stress less, right now,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you can get up to two hundred dollars off Square
- 9:02Speaker 1: hardware at Square dot com slash go slash foul. That's
- 9:05Speaker 1: Square dot com slash go slash f o u l
- 9:08Speaker 1: run your business smarter with Square.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Get started today. Okay, can I present your case?
- 9:13Speaker 3: Hold on?
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 3: When they say suggest so, they must have a PitchCom
- 9:17Speaker 3: in the dugout. Like leach Miner yesterday he was doing,
- 9:22Speaker 3: how do they have time for that? In the pitch call,
- 9:24Speaker 3: I was going to ask you that that was what
- 9:25Speaker 3: happens if the picture shakes off, then they got to
- 9:27Speaker 3: go to PitchCom real quick.
- 9:29Speaker 2: You can't.
- 9:30Speaker 3: That's why it's like suggest but there ain't time to change.
- 9:34Speaker 3: That's why this is awesome. Uh listen, Mark's asking, is
- 9:38Speaker 3: there any advantage of doing it? I guess if you
- 9:40Speaker 3: have someone that's dumb and they can't remember the scouting report.
- 9:43Speaker 2: But why are they doing it in college?
- 9:44Speaker 3: Well, they do it in college because coaches won't control
- 9:46Speaker 3: and it's their life on the line. It's not the
- 9:48Speaker 3: college kid's life and career on the line. In college,
- 9:51Speaker 3: they do it because they want to say I'm controlling everything.
- 9:53Speaker 2: But so does MLB and and I understand that.
- 9:56Speaker 3: But also, you know, there's this big thing called like
- 9:59Speaker 3: catcher's R and this and that, and guys work good
- 10:02Speaker 3: with other guys, but that was always because you put
- 10:04Speaker 3: down the room. Guys would be like, man, he's got
- 10:05Speaker 3: good fingers and he knows me, and he knows what
- 10:07Speaker 3: to call and he sees if I'm struggling, he can
- 10:09Speaker 3: do that. Well, now the catcher is not gonna get
- 10:12Speaker 3: credit if the if the coach is calling that sure right,
- 10:14Speaker 3: So the catcher goes arbitration. He's like, I don't know,
- 10:16Speaker 3: let's say, uh, what's a really good catcher in Uh
- 10:21Speaker 3: good good good man, good man, yeah, good man. Uh yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Let's say he goes arbitration and he goes let's say
- 10:28Speaker 3: the free agent and he goes to I don't know,
- 10:31Speaker 3: I'm throwing a random team out there. The Cubs and
- 10:34Speaker 3: Craig Council's like, hey, call the game. He's gonna go,
- 10:36Speaker 3: I've never done this before.
- 10:38Speaker 2: You know it's gonna happen. The Cubs are gonna start
- 10:40Speaker 2: calling the pitches from the.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I'm saying this is gonna be every team before long.
- 10:43Speaker 1: And then if it is every team, I'm going to
- 10:45Speaker 1: countercrats this point. If every team's doing this, crats, then
- 10:47Speaker 1: what you're saying is not going to exist anymore, because, yeah,
- 10:50Speaker 1: the blame game is not gonna be well, some teams
- 10:52Speaker 1: have the catchers calling, some teams have the teams calling.
- 10:54Speaker 2: The teams are just gonna call it.
- 10:55Speaker 3: As I'm saying, it's gonna be every team.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Just going to be like, you either execute the pitch
- 10:59Speaker 2: or you do what happened.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Okay, so then who so then Okay, that's fine if
- 11:02Speaker 3: they want to do it. But again, when a guy
- 11:04Speaker 3: hangs a slider and the computer said throw a slider
- 11:06Speaker 3: but he didn't have a slider all day. And you're
- 11:08Speaker 3: in the third inning and he's been throwing some mixers
- 11:10Speaker 3: up there and he hangs when some dude hits a homer,
- 11:14Speaker 3: do you go in and be the stupid computer? I
- 11:16Speaker 3: knew he didn't have a slider all day.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Is there no feel? Though?
- 11:19Speaker 1: This is what I need to know, is we should
- 11:21Speaker 1: try and get one of these guys on the show,
- 11:22Speaker 1: because obviously you guys are gonna be passionate about this,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and you have the best insight because this is what
- 11:26Speaker 1: you did for your living. But do you think that
- 11:29Speaker 1: these two teams now the Marlins and Rockies are trying
- 11:31Speaker 1: to read swings and read me too a little bit.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I don't know if they're fully doing it. No, they're
- 11:36Speaker 2: not doing it at all.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Crats Oh no, no, no, I was answering your question, Scott.
- 11:39Speaker 4: The Mets are the Mets are lightly suggesting?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Okay, so are they reading swings and pitches? And they're
- 11:47Speaker 2: not doing that at all?
- 11:47Speaker 3: It's strictly off the okay, okay, at all?
- 11:51Speaker 4: No I think they are. I would I choose to
- 11:55Speaker 4: believe they are because I'm reading swings. I was just
- 11:59Speaker 4: talking about in our game. In our high school game yesterday,
- 12:02Speaker 4: I don't call pitches. I talked to our catchers. We
- 12:05Speaker 4: have two freshman catchers, and you know what we learn
- 12:08Speaker 4: from each situation. But you can read, Okay, that guy
- 12:13Speaker 4: just fouled a ball straight into our dugout. He's late
- 12:16Speaker 4: as all get out, don't throw a breaking ball. And
- 12:19Speaker 4: then in high school they throw a breaking ball and
- 12:21Speaker 4: he swings and misses at it. So it's completely different.
- 12:23Speaker 2: At that level.
- 12:24Speaker 4: You do have to read the swings. Are they reading
- 12:26Speaker 4: the swings? I don't know, But like AJ said, you
- 12:30Speaker 4: can't read the swings the same way.
- 12:34Speaker 3: I mean, I remember catching and watching games from the dugout.
- 12:37Speaker 3: When I would games, I wasn't playing in the backup catcher.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Whoever it was, would they give up a hit or something,
- 12:42Speaker 3: They come over and say, what do you think about
- 12:44Speaker 3: that pitch selection. I'm like, you're in the game. I'm
- 12:47Speaker 3: sitting over here watching from the side. I don't know
- 12:50Speaker 3: what that guy has that day. And in the end
- 12:52Speaker 3: of the day, listen, I'm gonna say this about scouting reports,
- 12:55Speaker 3: and I'm going to say this about anything you want
- 12:57Speaker 3: to say about baseball. If you make a good pitch,
- 13:00Speaker 3: most of the time. It doesn't matter what pitch it is. Krats,
- 13:03Speaker 3: tell me if I'm wrong, you're gonna get the dude out. Okay,
- 13:06Speaker 3: if you make a crappy pitch, most of the time,
- 13:08Speaker 3: that's when they put their a swing and they get
- 13:10Speaker 3: a ball, hit a ball hard. Right. So, if I
- 13:12Speaker 3: have a guy who throws a lot of sliders, and
- 13:15Speaker 3: there's a guy who comes up and he's hitting six
- 13:17Speaker 3: fifty off sliders. But I got a guy out there
- 13:20Speaker 3: that is best pitch of a slider, I'm still gonna
- 13:22Speaker 3: throw a slider. I just don't want him to hang it.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Because nobody hits a good slider. No one hits a
- 13:26Speaker 3: good curveball. No one hits a well located, down in
- 13:29Speaker 3: a way fastball. They might shank one the other way,
- 13:32Speaker 3: but they're not doing damage. Most of the damage doesn't
- 13:35Speaker 3: happen every once in a while, but not more that
- 13:37Speaker 3: times than not. Right, the pitches that get hit are
- 13:39Speaker 3: mistakes most of the time, So it doesn't it's not
- 13:42Speaker 3: the pitch selection all the time. It's the pitch execution
- 13:45Speaker 3: and until and listen, so you can sit over there
- 13:48Speaker 3: and do beep it. He got pity boopity boop over
- 13:50Speaker 3: here all you want, but if it doesn't, if that
- 13:52Speaker 3: guy doesn't have that pitch that day, then he doesn't
- 13:55Speaker 3: have that pitch that day. And sometimes I mean, how
- 13:58Speaker 3: many times krats did you catch? And you're like, oh,
- 14:00Speaker 3: you have whoever you're catching. I'll use Tanaka right, because
- 14:03Speaker 3: he had a split and he had a little cutter
- 14:05Speaker 3: and all that he comes out of the first thing,
- 14:07Speaker 3: he can't find his split, right, so you're like, okay,
- 14:10Speaker 3: how can we figure out counts? Even though it might
- 14:12Speaker 3: not be the right situation to throw a split to
- 14:14Speaker 3: maybe get his feelback, Like O two, he jumps ahead
- 14:16Speaker 3: of a guy. Oh two, You're like, okay, let's throw
- 14:18Speaker 3: a split, and you're like, point at the dirt, like
- 14:20Speaker 3: throw it in the dirt so he feels it out front. Right,
- 14:23Speaker 3: That stuff from the dugout they can't do. That's the
- 14:27Speaker 3: stuff for me. Like you can call a pitch you want,
- 14:28Speaker 3: but at the end of the day, it's about feel.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Certain guys, certain guys finish their cutter more out front
- 14:35Speaker 4: they finish it, or some guys had to get on
- 14:37Speaker 4: top of their cutter. They had to think about that. Well,
- 14:39Speaker 4: if every fastball they're throwing is up. Okay, maybe that
- 14:43Speaker 4: cutter will help them finish down on the next fastball.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Get that next feel there was guys I played with
- 14:50Speaker 4: that if they would throw their sinker one pitch, they
- 14:53Speaker 4: couldn't throw the cutter the very next pitch. It would
- 14:55Speaker 4: almost have to be like a sink or four steamer
- 14:58Speaker 4: to the cutter, slider slider to the cutter. Just because
- 15:03Speaker 4: pictures don't like and you read that kind of stuff.
- 15:05Speaker 4: But go to AJ screen. Just AJ's single here and
- 15:09Speaker 4: I went over right AJ's right shoulder. I want you
- 15:12Speaker 4: to just point to what's behind there so people who
- 15:14Speaker 4: are watching can see that mask was in a Perfect
- 15:19Speaker 4: Game from phil Umber. You think phil Umber has any
- 15:24Speaker 4: You look at one of those You look at one
- 15:25Speaker 4: of these sheets that they're using, and phil Umber's sheet
- 15:30Speaker 4: wouldn't look all green, meaning this is not good. Like
- 15:34Speaker 4: we're not we're not going in these areas. You have
- 15:37Speaker 4: to walk a guy through nine innings to be able
- 15:40Speaker 4: to catch a complete game of perfect game. You have
- 15:42Speaker 4: to be able to walk some guys through five innings
- 15:45Speaker 4: to be able to only give up three runs. What's
- 15:49Speaker 4: on the numbers is probably ninety two percent of the
- 15:54Speaker 4: time in AJ's head unless AJ does zero work pregame
- 15:59Speaker 4: and all he's worried about is hitting. Like, if you're
- 16:02Speaker 4: not doing your work, then yeah, you know what you
- 16:05Speaker 4: need somebody else telling you. But they've even admitted in
- 16:08Speaker 4: all of these interviews, well, you know, it's just really
- 16:10Speaker 4: a lot of the stuff that we already talk about,
- 16:12Speaker 4: and we're just there for suggestions.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Like, yeah, it is is.
- 16:17Speaker 4: It is not an ironclad thing, and you have to
- 16:21Speaker 4: be able to have all this information already in your head.
- 16:23Speaker 4: I can still go through scatter reports from eight years
- 16:27Speaker 4: ago that I remember from big games.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to cap it with this, because I
- 16:32Speaker 1: think this will tell you where it's going. And the
- 16:34Speaker 1: way it's going is every team's going to be doing
- 16:36Speaker 1: it within five years. Michael King is quoted in this
- 16:39Speaker 1: story saying that he was skeptical, but then he found
- 16:41Speaker 1: out it was a suggestion, and I have the analytically
- 16:43Speaker 1: best pitch to throw.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It's a little bit better. But then you go earlier
- 16:46Speaker 2: in the article.
- 16:47Speaker 1: How much how often are they shaking them off in
- 16:49Speaker 1: the first month of the season, one or two pitches
- 16:52Speaker 1: a game.
- 16:53Speaker 2: It's not a suggestion.
- 16:54Speaker 1: When it's one or two pitches of a game, ninety
- 16:56Speaker 1: nine percent of your pitches in the game are your suggestion.
- 16:59Speaker 1: That means they're just calling it and you like it
- 17:01Speaker 1: and it's working well enough, or at least they're buying
- 17:03Speaker 1: into it, so they're doing it.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Wait, Michael King from the Padres.
- 17:07Speaker 1: They asked him about it, Yeah, because the Padres played
- 17:09Speaker 1: the Rockies and he was like, oh, like, I didn't
- 17:11Speaker 1: like it, but like, oh, it's a suggestion.
- 17:13Speaker 3: So but they suggested all the time.
- 17:15Speaker 1: But right, if you go back earlier they I don't
- 17:17Speaker 1: know if they told him, But Michael, do you think
- 17:19Speaker 1: that it's a suggestion if ninety nine percent of the
- 17:21Speaker 1: pitches are actually being enforced from the call?
- 17:24Speaker 4: Michael King is one of the most prepared pitchers I've
- 17:27Speaker 4: ever played with. He knows all this information. Michael King,
- 17:30Speaker 4: what is he making this year? Twenty five million dollars.
- 17:32Speaker 4: He's a three year, seventy five million something.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Know what.
- 17:36Speaker 4: He can shake off whatever the heck he wants to
- 17:38Speaker 4: shake off. You know why, because he's solidified. You call
- 17:41Speaker 4: up a starter from the minor leagues and you shake
- 17:43Speaker 4: off and you give him a hit. Oh crap, probably
- 17:47Speaker 4: gonna get sent down why, Oh, because I shook. I
- 17:50Speaker 4: shook that pitch off and I gave up a hit.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Like guys are in different positions. Michael King, he knows
- 17:56Speaker 4: all the numbers. He's he knows more, And maybe this
- 18:00Speaker 4: is an arrogant thing to say. I know from watching
- 18:03Speaker 4: him he knows more than the person who's holding a sheet.
- 18:06Speaker 4: I don't care who that person is holding the sheet.
- 18:08Speaker 4: If it's freaking Clayton Kershaw, if it's Max Schurz, are
- 18:13Speaker 4: sitting on the bench, the pitcher on the mound that
- 18:16Speaker 4: is prepared as prepared as Michael King knows more than
- 18:20Speaker 4: what's somebody in the dug out holding a sheet knows.
- 18:23Speaker 2: That's fine, So those people will be grandfathered in.
- 18:25Speaker 1: And the league is saying, we feel as if we
- 18:27Speaker 1: are smarter than the pitchers and the catchers on what
- 18:29Speaker 1: to call period and will it be in the game
- 18:31Speaker 1: in five years? Almost everywhere? I almost guarantee it. Good combo,
- 18:36Speaker 1: but great insight from you guys. Let's rack a couple.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Spencer Nustbaum tweets he covers the mats for the Athletic
- 18:43Speaker 1: and for District Territory. The new National show that also
- 18:46Speaker 1: just added Kevin Franz and Jake Gerbin hit Akunya with
- 18:49Speaker 1: a pitch twice. Bryce Elder just hit cj Abrams in
- 18:51Speaker 1: the bottom of the six This is last night's Nationals
- 18:53Speaker 1: Braves game. Warning issued to both dugouts. And then the
- 18:57Speaker 1: next tweet he sends is Blake but Terra say he
- 19:00Speaker 1: thought it was pretty clear the Braves hit cj Abrams
- 19:03Speaker 1: on purpose, added in the context that it was the
- 19:05Speaker 1: first pitch of the bat, and acknowledge that Ervin hit
- 19:08Speaker 1: a Kunya twice, both of which he said were accidents.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Okay, so what did Blake Peter do about it? Couldn't
- 19:15Speaker 3: couldn't do anything you can can We.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Just started the series and I think those teams play
- 19:21Speaker 1: each other pretty frequently too.
- 19:23Speaker 2: You're saying, like, should they hit him back again?
- 19:25Speaker 3: You want to stop it?
- 19:26Speaker 2: Start beanball hit a dude, But the Braves are saying, here's.
- 19:30Speaker 3: This is what I have no problem with. The Braves.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Didcuon you got hit twice? You hit their guy? Oh? C.
- 19:34Speaker 3: J Abrams whack Wooden up at the head, was fine, boom,
- 19:38Speaker 3: you hit him, move on, But don't have Blake pu
- 19:40Speaker 3: Terror come out and say it was pretty obviously threw
- 19:42Speaker 3: at him. No kidding, Blake, you hit their best player twice. Yes,
- 19:46Speaker 3: guess what's gonna happen. You're gonna get hit. Correct as
- 19:49Speaker 3: they should, and they did it properly. I have no
- 19:51Speaker 3: problem with this, which he This is when we talk
- 19:53Speaker 3: about the game policing itself. Yeah, you screw up, you
- 19:55Speaker 3: do some dumb Trust me, someone that got thrown out
- 19:57Speaker 3: a lot. I did a lot of dumb stuff. Okay,
- 19:59Speaker 3: I got thrown out a lot, and I knew when
- 20:02Speaker 3: I did it, and I'd take my medicine and go
- 20:03Speaker 3: to first.
- 20:05Speaker 2: I have no problem with that. It doesn't matter if
- 20:07Speaker 2: there's intent or not. You hit their best player twice.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Tony the Russ said, you hit one of ours, written
- 20:11Speaker 3: three of yours.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I don't know if Blake had a problem with it either.
- 20:13Speaker 1: He just was asked if he thought it was intentionally
- 20:15Speaker 1: said yes, okay, but correct it was. Your pitchers need
- 20:18Speaker 1: to find the zone and not hit Ronald Acunya twice. Okay,
- 20:23Speaker 1: I'm going to be very direct to this time when
- 20:24Speaker 1: I'm talking about Sea GK and I'm actually going to
- 20:26Speaker 1: look ahead. Sometimes we like to do some schedule watching.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Do you know that the Cubs and Dodgers are meeting
- 20:32Speaker 1: up this weekend. We're going to talk to Katie Wou
- 20:33Speaker 1: coming up, We're gonna do our own segment on the
- 20:35Speaker 1: Craig Council versus Dave Roberts quotes on the Otani rule.
- 20:39Speaker 1: We'll get to all of that, but also don't forget
- 20:41Speaker 1: what Pete crow Armstrong said about Dodger fans and the
- 20:44Speaker 1: Cubs are about to head to Los Angeles. So my
- 20:47Speaker 1: point is, with over thirty five million downloads, seekeek is
- 20:50Speaker 1: the number one rated ticketing app and that might be
- 20:52Speaker 1: a little boogie ticket. So if you want to get
- 20:54Speaker 1: a little off of it, then the code is Territory ten.
- 20:57Speaker 3: And as rare as a hockey fighters and goalie fighters,
- 21:00Speaker 3: hockey might get a manager fight.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Oh that would be the ultimate, right kind.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Of like Baker Tony LaRussa back in the day.
- 21:06Speaker 1: When every few years you might get two coaches that
- 21:10Speaker 1: kind of go at it. I mean we had Walter
- 21:13Speaker 1: participating that was player manager.
- 21:15Speaker 2: So go check it out.
- 21:17Speaker 1: The code for you is Territory one zero ten percent

- 21:27Speaker 1: description and download the app and have the code automatically
- 21:29Speaker 1: added to your account so you can.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Use it later. Thank you, see geek Hey.
- 21:33Speaker 1: This one's fresh breaking from John Hayman has Wan Soto
- 21:37Speaker 1: returning to the Mets tomorrow, which is Wednesday. He's needed,
- 21:43Speaker 1: That's what Haymond said, but I would retweet that he's
- 21:49Speaker 1: really good.
- 21:51Speaker 3: But there were without Lamber until they were eleven.
- 21:55Speaker 2: After that, Jan Soto is a super duper star.
- 22:00Speaker 1: He is, And there are a lot of games you
- 22:03Speaker 1: watch and you go, man, if only they had a
- 22:05Speaker 1: guy who could just pop it to run Homer right now,
- 22:07Speaker 1: or take three walks in a game and set the
- 22:11Speaker 1: table so that knock turns into a run and puts
- 22:13Speaker 1: a little heat on the pitcher and stops the momentum
- 22:15Speaker 1: of one through one, two, three innings.
- 22:18Speaker 2: It's almost like that.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Almost they had that guy.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Lots of money.
- 22:21Speaker 4: I hope it's he's one hundred percent, because he wanted
- 22:24Speaker 4: to steal forty bags this year and all those walks
- 22:27Speaker 4: were turning into doubles when he stole thirty whatever it was,
- 22:30Speaker 4: thirty eight bags, Like, let's let's make sure he's one
- 22:34Speaker 4: hundred percent, because they sure as heck can't string three
- 22:37Speaker 4: hits together to score him. So he's gonna have to
- 22:40Speaker 4: be able to run when he's on base as much
- 22:42Speaker 4: as he is. Because he comes back, nobody's gonna be like, gee,
- 22:46Speaker 4: I wonder if Jan is rusty. No, they're gonna be like,
- 22:50Speaker 4: put them on see if they can get three hits
- 22:52Speaker 4: after him.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to steal thirty eight bases.
- 22:57Speaker 1: He has none so far this season. He just missed
- 22:59Speaker 1: some time. Calves are tricky. They are tricky every time.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Every time you think they're healthy, give it another week.
- 23:07Speaker 3: How many times you've seen it? I've seen it so
- 23:08Speaker 3: many times?
- 23:09Speaker 4: Man.
- 23:09Speaker 1: All right, we have a little ABS challenge update that
- 23:12Speaker 1: we can show everyone based on how everyone's doing. Take
- 23:15Speaker 1: a quickly look at the board. Yes, you have to
- 23:17Speaker 1: tap your head for those two apply. Some teams use
- 23:19Speaker 1: it all the time. Some teams are not using it
- 23:22Speaker 1: very frequently. I remember when I last checked, the Dodgers
- 23:25Speaker 1: actually were pretty low on that board. I think the
- 23:26Speaker 1: Twins are leading in that category.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Are they?
- 23:30Speaker 2: I believe you're the lowest.
- 23:33Speaker 1: This is ABS Challenges period, Like how many challenges that
- 23:37Speaker 1: how many head taps? Sixty nine giggity for the Twins
- 23:40Speaker 1: so far, and then you go as far down as
- 23:42Speaker 1: the Red Sox at twenty four. Now the Dodgers are,
- 23:45Speaker 1: I mean not middle of the pack, but Giants and
- 23:46Speaker 1: Dodgers at thirty seven.
- 23:47Speaker 2: The teams that I'm more interested in the teams that
- 23:50Speaker 2: don't challenge.
- 23:51Speaker 3: You know what's funny is I watch a lot of
- 23:52Speaker 3: these games and there's certain teams you could tell they're
- 23:54Speaker 3: scared to pull the trick.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Why.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I don't know. The Red Sox are one of them.
- 23:57Speaker 3: There's some pitches that are and even yeah, I was
- 24:00Speaker 3: listening to I think Lou Marloni even yesterday on the
- 24:02Speaker 3: Patriots Day game and he's like, I don't know why
- 24:05Speaker 3: they didn't challenge that one. I don't know. It's like
- 24:08Speaker 3: there's guys that are I don't they're scared.
- 24:12Speaker 1: And we are back and we are going over a
- 24:14Speaker 1: little quickie story about the Blue Jays choosing to bus
- 24:17Speaker 1: from Phoenix to Anaheim because their plane was placed on
- 24:20Speaker 1: the injured list, and instead of waiting for another plane,
- 24:22Speaker 1: John Snyder said, you know what, We're gonna hit the bus.
- 24:25Speaker 2: And then Max Scherzer said, you go to kangaroo court
- 24:28Speaker 2: for that.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Schneider was like, well, we should just use your plane
- 24:31Speaker 1: or get you get us a plane, but that's too complicated.
- 24:34Speaker 1: And then Scherzer said, he's gonna get extra fined because
- 24:37Speaker 1: you're not supposed to bring up kangaroo court before you
- 24:39Speaker 1: go to kangaroo court.
- 24:40Speaker 2: So where are we at.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Someone's getting fined. It's not gonna be Max. Max is
- 24:45Speaker 3: probably the judge. Yes, So Dylan's pitch really well last
- 24:50Speaker 3: night too.
- 24:50Speaker 2: By the way, we're gonna talk about him coming up.
- 24:52Speaker 3: He's been really good all year. I'm kind of on
- 24:55Speaker 3: Max's side right here. Yeah, because player players are supposed
- 25:01Speaker 3: to be pampered and the manager has to supposed to
- 25:03Speaker 3: do what the players want.
- 25:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:05Speaker 3: I kind of agree with Max. How come they the
- 25:06Speaker 3: Blue Jays, they they have lots of money. They couldn't
- 25:09Speaker 3: have found a new a new plane, or they could
- 25:11Speaker 3: have it just they would have taken It was faster
- 25:13Speaker 3: to bus than it was to wait for a plane.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I mean, you need a big one. It's not like, oh,
- 25:18Speaker 2: let's just go pho next to where they go four hours.
- 25:23Speaker 2: It's a four hour bus.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's what it is to drive from Phoenix.
- 25:28Speaker 4: It's like four four or five. Everyone needs to get
- 25:31Speaker 4: a bus trip.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Everyone.
- 25:32Speaker 1: If I tell you, hey, it's gonna take us four
- 25:34Speaker 1: hours or five hours to get the plane, then we
- 25:36Speaker 1: go on it.
- 25:37Speaker 3: I just I'd rather take your bus.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:39Speaker 1: It sounded like it wasn't like a oh it's gonna
- 25:41Speaker 1: be thirty sixty minutes. It sounded like a delay.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Oh. I've sat on a big league plane for a
- 25:45Speaker 3: long time and seen guys have times, have good times.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean not like on the bus.
- 25:52Speaker 3: It's not the same thing.
- 25:54Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:54Speaker 3: What's cool though, is if you've ever been on a
- 25:55Speaker 3: big league bus trip stopping at like a McDonald's and
- 25:59Speaker 3: everyone goes in and just seeing people that are in there,
- 26:03Speaker 3: and when someone finally it finally hits who the heck
- 26:05Speaker 3: you are? But just usually because it's leusually late at night,
- 26:08Speaker 3: and it's a one person'll be like.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Wait and then they look back and they're like, I
- 26:13Speaker 1: just see the entire two thousand and whatever.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but don't see use of course, because you
- 26:19Speaker 3: know they don't. They don't go on the starry pitchers
- 26:22Speaker 3: have to fly early. You can bring out with the Team.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Bougie.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Yeah, he pitch.
- 26:29Speaker 4: I would say, I would say Max, Max has to
- 26:32Speaker 4: pay some type of fine here because I mean he
- 26:35Speaker 4: could have gotten the boys. He could have gotten the boys,
- 26:38Speaker 4: just like just like S's just like Schneider said, Max,
- 26:41Speaker 4: hook it up. You got a couple of private jets.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I'm sure you could get on call. I know AJ
- 26:46Speaker 4: does and Max you've made way more money than a J. Prazinski,
- 26:49Speaker 4: So you gotta have some peeps that you can talk to.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Hey, we're back and we're gonna be quick on this one.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Since we spent a lot of time in a lot
- 26:56Speaker 1: of segments and it was well worth it, we do
- 26:59Speaker 1: want to keep going everyone. Yes, sorry claud not the
- 27:03Speaker 1: AI version, the producer lady crushing it behind the scenes,
- 27:06Speaker 1: but also reminding us that Jay Croninworth is going to
- 27:09Speaker 1: be on Friar Territory today. So it's not just players
- 27:12Speaker 1: appearing on this show anymore. It's players appearing across the
- 27:15Speaker 1: FT network. I know we give you bits and pieces
- 27:16Speaker 1: of those interviews here, but they're also on social media
- 27:19Speaker 1: and most importantly Friar Territory YouTube channel and podcast to
- 27:23Speaker 1: listen to the whole thing.
- 27:24Speaker 2: So look out for that from Marty and Darren. They'll
- 27:26Speaker 2: be talking to Jake Cronin on coming soon. Let us
- 27:44Speaker 2: slap hands. This is a classic slap pans topic.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Trevor Martin made his major League debut for the Rays
- 27:49Speaker 1: yesterday against the Reds to in the third a run,
- 27:52Speaker 1: two hits, two punch outs. His dad got there via airplane.
- 27:56Speaker 1: First time ever on an airplane.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Check. I don't think he even knows that, so apparently that's.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Awesome, by the way, but he doesn't want to have
- 28:13Speaker 3: kids in college. And there's kids on my kids college
- 28:16Speaker 3: teams that had never been on airplane unil he got
- 28:17Speaker 3: to college. And it's freaky the first time you go on.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I guess so, well, if you've never think about being
- 28:25Speaker 3: eighteen nineteen, never been on a plane.
- 28:27Speaker 2: And then it's just like, oh, it's a plane, right,
- 28:29Speaker 2: But if you've just seen it and you never.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Experienced it, got to be forty or fifty years old. Yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 3: and he's like, wait, what, I'm in a tube flying
- 28:38Speaker 3: through the sky. This is crazy's flatter thing.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and everybody's really scrunched together most of the time.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Don't even get free drinks on these planes.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yeah, what is this? This is a bust in the
- 28:47Speaker 2: sky and I got to wait in.
- 28:49Speaker 3: That TSA line with no pre check more clear.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it might have taken a while, but yeah, you
- 28:54Speaker 1: can't hop from Oklahoma to Tampa if you suddenly find
- 28:56Speaker 1: out your son's getting called out.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Awesome, tho you got to get good for you and
- 29:00Speaker 3: it's good for him.
- 29:00Speaker 1: But that's a fun story, Kratz. You always get something good.
- 29:03Speaker 1: The debut stories are the best.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Why do some kids get their families get a suite
- 29:07Speaker 4: for debuts? But like Trevor Martin's family that they just
- 29:10Speaker 4: got to sit with the common folk.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Like, what's the deal with that?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Team by team, case by case.
- 29:17Speaker 4: No player by player, definitely a player by player because
- 29:21Speaker 4: Roman Anthony's family was sitting where like ben Aflac and
- 29:25Speaker 4: all them apples like Matt dam when they sit I
- 29:27Speaker 4: promise when when let's see who would have been Ryan
- 29:32Speaker 4: Lavarnway made his debut with the with the Red Sox.
