- 0:10Oh, I'm Jay Fallon. Thanks for listening to the
- 0:13slippery slope. Hey, does anyone else miss the
- 0:15days when councils, you know, they just did the job that
- 0:19councils were supposed to do? You know, they had their Shire,
- 0:21their specific Shire. And that, you know, the the
- 0:24officials were voted in, they're elected and then they just, they
- 0:28just did, they performed the duties of the elected officials
- 0:32and basically just running the Shire, you know, making sure the
- 0:36garbage was picked up on time all the time, making sure the
- 0:41that we had clean water available, making sure all those
- 0:44amenities were kind of were running properly smoothly.
- 0:48I kind of missed the days when that's all councils did, you
- 0:51know, their actual flipping job. But hey, gone are those days.
- 0:57No councils have decided that well, that it's hard to
- 1:05understand what goes through their little pea brains, whether
- 1:07they think that they obviously think they are more than what
- 1:11they really are. You can see that.
- 1:13Let's check out this story here. Victorian counselor Susan
- 1:18Bissinger. Bissinger.
- 1:20I'm assuming it's I'm going to go with Bissinger.
- 1:23Forced to undergo personal development training following
- 1:26dispute over a pride flag. How's this look?
- 1:29Look, this is the new I've never seen this one before.
- 1:32The progressive pride flag. If you've got this up on video,
- 1:36you'll be able to see it. It's multiple colours.
- 1:39I think that's in there. There's a little section which
- 1:41looks like the original pride flag and now I've got everything
- 1:44else, The circle, the train stuff.
- 1:52Anyway, listen, in an affluent coastal Shire of Victoria's
- 1:56Mornington Peninsula, Councillor Susan Bissinger has made claims
- 2:00that she was subjected to a personal development course
- 2:03following her disagreement with the decision to permanently
- 2:06hoist a progressive pride flag at all council offices
- 2:10permanently. The mandate to undertake this
- 2:13training emerged following mediation with the Shire Mayor.
- 2:19So the main source of contention traces back to an online
- 2:21discourse that followed Miss Bissinger, her fellow fellow
- 2:25councillors and council staff about a proposed plan.
- 2:29This plan aimed at the permanent display of the intersex
- 2:33Inclusive Progress Pride flag OK at all the council offices
- 2:39within the Shire. The modern version of the
- 2:42classic rainbow flag. The classic rainbow flag What a
- 2:47Unveiled in 2021 stands as an inclusive representative token
- 2:53for the full LGBTQI plus rainbow, ABC, whatever community
- 2:59encapsulating trans and intersects individuals.
- 3:02And it just constantly change. Hey, it constantly changes.
- 3:06It's the modern version of the classic and I love this
- 3:11representative token. It is very tokenistic, all
- 3:14right, Miss Bissinger declared. The dispute was not revolving
- 3:19and the significance of the flag itself.
- 3:21Rather, her concern focused on the decision to fly what she
- 3:25referred to as a divisive flag in a community primarily
- 3:31characterized by its conservatism.
- 3:33She referenced recent negative feedback from the community
- 3:36about council performance. But you know, why would the
- 3:40council actually listen to community feedback?
- 3:43The people that vote them in, why would they actually listen
- 3:46to those people? Course they're the council, they
- 3:49are so much, so much above what the people who actually LED them
- 3:53elected them. They don't have to listen to
- 3:55them anymore there. So this is all resulting in a re
- 3:59evaluation of council image and introduction of a team assigned
- 4:03to improve this aspect initially optimistic about the same
- 4:08tomorrow. I'm not going to read that part.
- 4:10This is all just rubbish, but the the what really?
- 4:14I think the the the most interesting part about this was
- 4:18down the bottom here. An essential point raised in the
- 4:20fallout of this controversy was that Miss Bissinger was an
- 4:24elected figure of the community community, democratically chosen
- 4:29to serve on the council. Issues arise when such figures
- 4:32are prevented from executing their duties due to departmental
- 4:36disagreements on topics such as flags, symbolism.
- 4:40This move is regarded by some as anti democratic.
- 4:43It is regarded as anti democratic.
- 4:45Isn't it just anti democratic? You're elected.
- 4:51You're an elected figure, an elected official of the
- 4:54community, democratically chosen and and the things that you're
- 5:00supposed to, the things that you want to bring forward because
- 5:03you're a representative of the community, you're shut down,
- 5:07Your voice is taken away from you.
- 5:09What right do these clowns have to do that?
- 5:13If you're elected? Aren't you supposed to be
- 5:14speaking for the people that you represent within your Shire?
- 5:19And then, but yet you're shut down anyway, all in the name of
- 5:24inclusivity? We will.
- 5:30So, oh, so we're not going to include some people so that we
- 5:35can include other people. And then those people that voted
- 5:42and official in their voice gets shut down in the name of
- 5:46supposed inclusivity. Wow, councils, like I said,
- 5:53don't you wish, don't you long for the days when they actually
- 5:55just did their jobs, you know, organize the rubbish, getting
- 5:59picked up on time and that kind of thing?
- 6:02But hey, we're living in a crazy, crazy society.
- 6:05This is Australia people. This is Australia.
- 6:08Let me know what you think. Is there anywhere out there that
- 6:11councils run that, you know, they just actually do their job
- 6:14and don't try and be more than what they are long for?
- 6:19The days when councils were just doing their job anyway, let me
- 6:24know what you think. Thanks for listening to the
- 6:27slippery slope.
