Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: An award-winning Southland distiller has been the first Kiwi honoured
- 0:03Speaker 1: by a prestigious London guild. Bluff Distillery Gin's co-founder, Chris Fraser,
- 0:07Speaker 1: has been installed as a warden rectifier of the gin
- 0:11Speaker 1: guild in a ceremony so posh the king would be proud.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Chris Fraser, Bluff Distillery co-founder with us live this morning.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Good morning, Chris.
- 0:20Speaker 2: There you go.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Yeah, good, thank you. Hey, congratulations on this award. I
- 0:23Speaker 1: know it's been a couple of weeks since you went
- 0:26Speaker 1: over and received it. Tell us, what is it?
- 0:28Speaker 2: What is it? So yeah, I guess it goes back
- 0:34Speaker 2: a very long time. Distilling's been around for a long
- 0:37Speaker 2: time and back in the days of London history and
- 0:42Speaker 2: world history, guilds were set up to sort of protect industries.
- 0:47Speaker 2: And then about 15 years ago, they added gin into it.
- 0:52Speaker 2: So it's part of the Worshipful Company of Distillers, which
- 0:55Speaker 2: goes back almost 400 years. So it's a pretty amazing
- 0:59Speaker 2: piece of history for distilling. Little old New Zealand to
- 1:01Speaker 2: be part of.
- 1:02Speaker 1: What was the ceremony like?
- 1:06Speaker 2: You wouldn't find anything like it in New Zealand. It
- 1:08Speaker 2: was pretty out there. It was at the Lord Mayor
- 1:12Speaker 2: of London's mansion. She wasn't able to be there, but
- 1:15Speaker 2: her husband was there. Yeah, you were welcome, full dress suit, tuxedos,
- 1:24Speaker 2: very proper, and yeah, quite the ceremony.
- 1:28Speaker 1: What's so good about your gin, Chris?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Oh, we just do keep it basic, you know. It's
- 1:34Speaker 2: gin that tastes like gin. Nothing crazy. Gin's had a
- 1:38Speaker 2: pretty wild ride with everybody putting all sorts of things
- 1:41Speaker 2: into it. We just stick to the basics and you
- 1:45Speaker 2: can't go wrong.
- 1:46Speaker 1: What does it cost me? Because you're in about 500
- 1:47Speaker 1: booze shops around the country. You're international.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah, normally between $ 89 and $ 99. We're an ultra-premium gin,
- 1:57Speaker 2: so we're at the top end of town. But, yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 2: you won't regret... getting hold of some of that juice.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Chris Fraser, Bluff Distillery co-founder. Congratulations.
