- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the Yukon Football Coaches Show.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We're back at it on a Tuesday with Jim Mora,
- 0:05Speaker 2: Mike Chrispino. The Huskies one on one headed to Delaware.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Should be interesting. Thirty thousand seats will be jammed full.
- 0:12Speaker 2: They're in the FBS world now down there, the Blue
- 0:15Speaker 2: Hens and the Huskies will make a visit. They'll go
- 0:18Speaker 2: on the road again, back to back and the coach
- 0:21Speaker 2: the road thing. It's different, right, It's not as comfortable.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You got all the travel, you got to get into
- 0:27Speaker 2: a hotel, you got your meeting rooms.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's a little more complex, I think.
- 0:33Speaker 3: It is here, right, Yeah, But we try to stick
- 0:36Speaker 3: to the routine as much as we can, and we
- 0:39Speaker 3: have a certain travel routine as well. And once you know,
- 0:42Speaker 3: our guys learned that, we try to make it as
- 0:45Speaker 3: seamless as possible. You know, the people on our staff
- 0:49Speaker 3: and Justin Morrow and Taylor Riddick and Daniel Mohitade Mohika,
- 0:55Speaker 3: they do an amazing job working with the hotels and
- 0:58Speaker 3: the airlines to make it a seamles as possible.
- 1:01Speaker 4: And at the end of the day, it's not something.
- 1:02Speaker 3: You really talk about with your team, you know, What
- 1:05Speaker 3: matters is what happens between the white lines and all
- 1:09Speaker 3: the rest of us just noise and distractions.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12Speaker 2: One thing that impressed me we were up in Syracuse
- 1:15Speaker 2: for the weekend the game Saturday. You have all these transfers,
- 1:18Speaker 2: guys that are you know, with Yukon for the first
- 1:20Speaker 2: time on the road, for the first time with their teammates.
- 1:25Speaker 1: It was so organized.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I'm, as you know, eavesdropping on some of some of
- 1:29Speaker 2: the conversations. The guys are all talking football. Yeah, Ramelo
- 1:33Speaker 2: Murphy's going to be on the show with us shortly
- 1:35Speaker 2: and ty Chan two guys that came from other places.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I mean, getting that cohesion going in the chemistry going
- 1:41Speaker 2: and then putting it on the road.
- 1:43Speaker 1: That's pretty important, isn't it.
- 1:45Speaker 3: It's critically important. And Mike, we actually practice that stuff.
- 1:50Speaker 3: And I know that sounds really silly maybe to some,
- 1:53Speaker 3: but we practice it. You know, we went during training
- 1:56Speaker 3: camp and we spent a night at the at the
- 1:58Speaker 3: downtown hotel we stay at the night before games and
- 2:02Speaker 3: took them through a night before game routine. We also
- 2:06Speaker 3: did it here at our facility. And you know, I
- 2:09Speaker 3: don't think you any want to You don't want to
- 2:10Speaker 3: ever take anything for granted. And you don't want the
- 2:13Speaker 3: first time that they spend the night before a game
- 2:16Speaker 3: at the hotel and go through all the meeting process.
- 2:18Speaker 3: You don't want that to be before the first game.
- 2:20Speaker 3: So we've we've done it obviously, as you mentioned, a
- 2:23Speaker 3: little different on the road because of the flight, but
- 2:25Speaker 3: after the flight. Really it's just, you know, it's just
- 2:28Speaker 3: a routine that we've developed that we believe in, and
- 2:31Speaker 3: uh it's too you know, designed to get us to
- 2:34Speaker 3: kick off in the right mindset.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Yeah, very few wasted minutes on the road. When pressed
- 2:41Speaker 1: me is there was? I think we got in there.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe an hour later, guys are doing
- 2:46Speaker 2: run throughs in the parking.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Lot outside the hotel and I'm like, wow, they.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Got their little playbooks and uh so no wasted minutes.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I guess that's kind of what you want when you
- 2:56Speaker 2: got to you got to kill you know, half a
- 2:58Speaker 2: day before you actually play it again.
- 3:00Speaker 3: It's just about maximizing every moment to get yourself mentally
- 3:04Speaker 3: and physically prepared to play that game. And you know
- 3:07Speaker 3: you mentioned the walkthroughs. It's you know, you don't want
- 3:10Speaker 3: to ever take for granted that you're prepared. You know,
- 3:13Speaker 3: the Hayes never in the barn, as they say, people
- 3:16Speaker 3: say the Hayes in the barn.
- 3:17Speaker 4: For us, the Hayes never in the barn.
- 3:19Speaker 3: And so it's just maximizing our opportunities to get ourselves
- 3:23Speaker 3: ready to play. Our players are mature, they understand that
- 3:27Speaker 3: and they do a really great job of focusing in
- 3:30Speaker 3: and maximizing those those those times that we have to
- 3:33Speaker 3: be together and get better.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Jim more will us you can football coach On Mike Crispino,
- 3:40Speaker 2: I'm so much positive to talk about in the road
- 3:42Speaker 2: game against the Orange, except the final result that felt like,
- 3:46Speaker 2: and I said it on the ear, you con won
- 3:48Speaker 2: that game for fifty five minutes.
- 3:50Speaker 1: They just didn't win the last five, six, seven minutes.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Now you probably have a different view of that, but
- 3:55Speaker 2: I'm curious what you think.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I kind of think the way you think.
- 3:58Speaker 3: And that's but always, you know, it comes down to
- 4:01Speaker 3: the end, being able to perform as a program, as
- 4:05Speaker 3: a as a team at the end. And you know
- 4:08Speaker 3: you've seen it. You saw it Sunday night with the
- 4:11Speaker 3: Bills and and the Ravens, and you saw it last
- 4:14Speaker 3: night with the the Bears and the Vikings. It's in
- 4:19Speaker 3: those crucial moments. It's all of us being at our
- 4:23Speaker 3: best and not panicking and not stepping outside the boundaries
- 4:27Speaker 3: of what we're what we're supposed to do on a
- 4:29Speaker 3: particular play. And unfortunately, that's simply what happened on on Saturday.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Is Uh, at critical moments, we did not perform the
- 4:43Speaker 3: way we had previously in that game and stepped a
- 4:47Speaker 3: little bit outside of the confines of our job, and
- 4:51Speaker 3: it really cost us.
- 4:52Speaker 4: And when I say we, I mean all.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Of us, I mean me, I mean everybody that you
- 4:57Speaker 3: know besides you, really that was on that play. We
- 5:00Speaker 3: all we call we all have to own it.
- 5:03Speaker 4: You know.
- 5:03Speaker 3: We don't point fingers around here. We try to figure
- 5:06Speaker 3: out solutions and we try to apply lessons learned going forward.
- 5:11Speaker 3: And Uh, I like the makeup of this team, Mike,
- 5:15Speaker 3: It's a mature group.
- 5:16Speaker 4: And I liked the I.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Didn't like the loss, obviously, it was a devastating loss,
- 5:21Speaker 3: but I like the way they responded.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:23Speaker 2: The the tough part about any you know, sporting event,
- 5:27Speaker 2: is someone's got to lose. Someone wins, someone loses. You
- 5:30Speaker 2: don't want to be on the down side.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Of it.
- 5:32Speaker 3: But there you are so fifty win and fifty lose,
- 5:37Speaker 3: and you want to have fifty percent of win, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 3: And it's uh.
- 5:40Speaker 4: And then the other thing is.
- 5:41Speaker 3: You don't ever want to rationalize it by, you know, saying,
- 5:44Speaker 3: well there's this factor, that factor, this happened or that happened.
- 5:48Speaker 4: You got to hit it head on, man, you got
- 5:49Speaker 4: to own it.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And I feel like we have a group of guys
- 5:52Speaker 3: that that they don't point fingers unless they're pointed at themselves,
- 5:57Speaker 3: and they don't rationalize and make excuses.
- 5:59Speaker 4: They responsibility.
- 6:01Speaker 3: And when you're working with people like that, whether it's
- 6:04Speaker 3: coaches or staff, or it's players, and especially our players
- 6:07Speaker 3: are that way, it's uh. It always gives you a
- 6:09Speaker 3: feeling of hope. And then it's you know, having that
- 6:13Speaker 3: resolve and determination and never let it happen again.
- 6:16Speaker 4: That's so important.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot of a lot of cliches and
- 6:20Speaker 2: sports that one about you got to play sixty minutes,
- 6:23Speaker 2: you got to play till there's nothing but zero's on
- 6:25Speaker 2: that time clock on the scoreboard.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I mean that really applied to that game, didn't it.
- 6:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I mean, like I get and I'm not taking exception
- 6:33Speaker 3: with what you're saying, because I think you're absolutely right.
- 6:35Speaker 3: It's we played hard like guys, played their butts off
- 6:42Speaker 3: and competed like crazy. It was, and it sounds so simple,
- 6:47Speaker 3: but it was doing our job at the always consistently,
- 6:53Speaker 3: you know, even in crunch time, just not stepping outside
- 6:56Speaker 3: the boundaries of what each of us are supposed to
- 6:58Speaker 3: do and making the ordinary plays that you're supposed to make,
- 7:03Speaker 3: or being where you're supposed to be, or getting the
- 7:06Speaker 3: call in the way it's supposed to get called. You know,
- 7:08Speaker 3: I'm talking about as a staff, putting our players in
- 7:10Speaker 3: good positions to make plays. And that's where we got hurt.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Because we played well, we played hard, We didn't ease up,
- 7:18Speaker 3: we kept doing what we'd been doing. We made adjustments
- 7:21Speaker 3: as we went along. But at the end when we
- 7:24Speaker 3: had to come up with the routine play, we stepped
- 7:29Speaker 3: out of character. And that's why we lost.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Jim Morris with us. We will back in just a second.
- 7:34Speaker 2: We got to time out, we got to hear from
- 7:36Speaker 2: our commercial sponsors.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a moment. Do you count
