- 0:11Speaker 1: Standard message and data rates may apply.
- 0:18Speaker 3: All right, thanks again, the Gene Watson, our MLB insider,
- 0:22joining us here to preview the two League Championship Series,
- 0:27of course, the National leg Championship Series, one game in
- 0:30the books, already in Game two underway right now at
- 0:33Dodgers Stadium, and the New York Mets turning the tables
- 0:36from last night's nine to nothing shut out loss to
- 0:39lay got a one run on a leadoff homer by
- 0:42Francisco Lindor on the top of the first and the
- 0:45second an RBI single has given the Mets a two
- 0:48to nothing lead and they're still batting with the bases
- 0:50loaded two outs in the inning.
- 0:52Speaker 1: We'll keep you up on that. One.
- 0:53Speaker 3: American League Championship Series gets underway tonight in New York
- 0:59with the Mets are excuse me, with the Yankees at
- 1:02home against the Cleveland Guardians in Game one of that. Cleveland,
- 1:07of course, won its first postseason series since the year
- 1:12they went to the World Series when they lost to
- 1:14the Cubs. When they had Chicago down three games to one,
- 1:16and the Cubs came back to win that World Series.
- 1:19And the Yankees, of course, are trying to win their
- 1:23first World Series since two thousand and nine. That's the
- 1:26last time New York won, So it's been fifteen years
- 1:29since the Yankees have won a World Series. So that's
- 1:32what's at stake there is. Those two teams get together
- 1:36tonight in the Bronx in New York. And as we mentioned,
- 1:41we'll keep you updated on the National League Championship Series
- 1:43between the Dodgers and the Mets. I wanted to hear
- 1:45some more from long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkesian. You know,
- 1:50there was a there was a question, I don't know
- 1:53if we've got the whole Q.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And a exchange on this.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Just the answer, just the answer, okay, all right, there
- 2:01was a there was a question posed by a young
- 2:05lady who asked. And by the way, the Mets have
- 2:10just blown it open on a grand slam home run.
- 2:13Mark Biento's with a grand slam down there, he was
- 2:17down in the count, a ball and two strikes worked
- 2:19at full into hit a grand slam, and now all
- 2:21of a sudden, the Mets have jumped all over the
- 2:23Dodger they leaded six to nothing as they bat in
- 2:26the top half of the second inning on that, So
- 2:28again we'll keep you updated on that, as they fully
- 2:30took advantage of the rookie Land and Knack who made
- 2:33three or four big mistakes in that inning already so.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Very composed for that because I may have tossed my
- 2:39laptop and this was the roles.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Well, I also understand what the Dodgers have been through
- 2:43with their pidgeon, and now things are, you know. The
- 2:45thing is, the thing is, he made a couple of
- 2:47big mistakes zero to two in the count, uh and
- 2:52to another hitter and gave up, elevated, just floated a
- 2:57breaking ball that went for an RBI single RBI to make.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It two to nothing.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Then they called for an intentional walk, and rightly so,
- 3:05to Francisco Lindor, the left handed hitter who had already
- 3:08homered off of Ryan Brazi of the right endor that
- 3:10loaded the bases. Then he got ahead of Mark Entto's
- 3:13the ball and two strikes let the count get full,
- 3:16and Vanto's hit a grand slam, so it's six nothing.
- 3:19Me's looked like they may well even that series at
- 3:21a game of piece. All right, So to go back
- 3:24to what long Worn's head coach, Steve Sarkesian was, he
- 3:26was asked, and I'm I'm not being critical of anybody,
- 3:33but the question was I could have predicted what his
- 3:37response would be when some of the questions are more
- 3:41of the they if a question isn't analytical, let me
- 3:47just put it that way. If it's more emotional than analytical,
- 3:52the head coach is going to take a dim view
- 3:54of it. So instead of asking, you know, what has
- 3:59made the difference for your team in how you attack
- 4:03a team and how you go about earning your victories,
- 4:08he would have responded final that. But when you start
- 4:12off with Billy Bowman, if Oklahoma says you guys didn't
- 4:15earn it, I mean you know you're going to have
- 4:18the kind of answer that gifts to that followed by
- 4:21the question that actually does bring about a decent answer.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Not my problem. We won next game.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So that was that was the question.
- 4:31Speaker 3: You know, he said that when Billy Bowman said that
- 4:35Texas didn't really earn it. I thought Bowman's original tweet
- 4:39about it or response about it was that they didn't
- 4:42earn things after or the early mistake early on.
- 4:47Speaker 2: That's that's what I thought, because I was in the
- 4:49press conference room and the question was I think asked
- 4:53to Bowman, was first quarter, you guys told them the
- 4:57zero rushing yards, It was zero zero. Then you had
- 4:59the two turnovers. What changed in quarters two, three, and
- 5:02four defensively for Oklahoma as opposed to the first quarter,
- 5:06And you know, he kind of mentioned the mistakes, and
- 5:08I think what he was trying to say was Texas
- 5:11didn't earn those two touchdowns because they were coming off
- 5:14fumbles on Oklahoma's side of the field. Yeah, I didn't
- 5:18take it as Texas did not to start to win
- 5:20that game, which is now how it's being construed now.
- 5:23I could be I could have, you know, maybe understanding
- 5:25what Bowman is saying. That's exactly what he is saying.
- 5:27But that's not what I got from that answer. I
- 5:29think he was more pointing to the two turnovers in
- 5:31the second quarter that resulted in fourteen points for Texas.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, and I do agree with you.
- 5:36Speaker 3: That's how I Yeah, yeah, it was it was fourteen
- 5:40points that made it fourteen three when they got there,
- 5:43or took it from seven to three to twenty one three.
- 5:46That's right the the I agree with you that that's
- 5:52what Billy Bowman's in tent was.
- 5:53Speaker 1: However, I think Billy Bowman.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Uh is is being a little less than realistic understanding
- 6:02that those were forced turnovers that they did on those fumbles.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Those were forced fumbles.
- 6:09Speaker 3: That's the defense creating in turn which, by the way,
- 6:12something oklahomad done really well going into the game and
- 6:15got one early on the Ers interception, which that one
- 6:18wasn't a forced turn I was just Quinn just flat
- 6:20out missing the mark and overthrowing the receiver on that.
- 6:25So you know that to have it construed back as
- 6:30they almost like they were lucky to win, like hear
- 6:32fan say or something like that. If you ask questions
- 6:36like that at a news conference, the coach is going
- 6:38to take and I'm not just talking about Sark. Most
- 6:40coaches would take a pretty dim view of it. And
- 6:42I was just like, I'm not gonna worry about and
- 6:44all Sarks. It's not my problem.
- 6:46Speaker 1: We won the game.
- 6:47Speaker 3: So then it got to the actual question what does
- 6:50your team do to earn victories?
- 6:52Speaker 5: I was refer to the players a lot about you know,
- 6:54getting ahead in the game, of life and what does
- 6:56that mean. That means, you know, having your priorities aligned.
- 6:58It means you know, being early to commitments that you make.
- 7:03And life is easier that way. You know, it's easy,
- 7:05it's life's a lot more difficult when your press conference
- 7:08starts at eleven thirty and you guys are coming to
- 7:12cover the press conference and you're running in at eleven
- 7:14thirty one and you're throwing your mic down. You that
- 7:18life is more difficult that way. Well, football is very
- 7:20simp The game of football is a lot easier to
- 7:23play when you have a lead as opposed to when
- 7:24you're playing from behind. When you have the lead, you
- 7:27have all of your game plan at your disposal. You
- 7:30can make the necessary adjustments because you can foreshadow and
- 7:34see what's coming. When you're playing from behind, you're in
- 7:36a little bit more scramble mode, and sometimes you have
- 7:39to scrap the original game plan. You have to go to,
- 7:42you know, your contingency plans of maybe you know what,
- 7:45if this Plan A didn't work, you got to go
- 7:47to plan B, Plan C. And so we believe in,
- 7:50like I said, our formula for success. We try to
- 7:53get leads. We try to you know, run plays that
- 7:56we think have an opportunity, like I said, to move
- 7:58the football and score.
- 8:00Speaker 4: We try to play a really sound defense.
- 8:01Speaker 5: And then if we can get that lead, especially into
- 8:04the second half, and it's a multiple score lead, and
- 8:06now you have to start to really throw the ball,
- 8:08which is something that we wanted to get better at
- 8:10from a year ago. Is all right, now they have
- 8:12to go throw it. Now let's go rush the passer,
- 8:15and now we can affect a quarterback and create turnovers
- 8:17and things. And so it is a formula that works
- 8:20that The key for us is we've been fortunate that
- 8:23we've got to.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Play that way all year long, and that's the ideal way.
- 8:29Speaker 5: But we have to be prepared for the other way too,
- 8:31because that day's probably going to come at some point,
- 8:34and we have to make sure that we're more than
- 8:35equipped to handle that as well.
- 8:37Speaker 3: All Right, So that was the long way ultimately to
- 8:41get to a good answer from Sark about that, which
- 8:44started with that. You know, like I said, the question
- 8:47that was probably going to throw the head coach off
- 8:49a little bit when you're asked about another player's emotional
- 8:52response to why Texas defeated that player's team and that's
- 8:58why you know you'll you'll never probably get a real
- 9:01good response on those kinds of things anyway. Also, the
- 9:05long words have been really good at once they get
- 9:08in the lead, having that killer instinct. And Sark was
- 9:10asked what changes once Texas is in front to have
- 9:17to have the lead in that once they have the
- 9:19lead in those.
- 9:20Speaker 5: Games, as refer to the players a lot about you know,
- 9:23getting ahead in the game of life and what does
- 9:25that mean. That means, you know, having your priorities aligned.
- 9:28It means you know, being early to commitments that you make.
- 9:32And life is easier that way. You know, it's easy.
- 9:35Life's a lot more difficult when your press conference starts
- 9:38at eleven thirty and you guys are coming to cover
- 9:41the press conference and you're running in at eleven thirty
- 9:43one and you're throwing your mic down. You that life
- 9:47is more difficult that way. Well, football is very simp
- 9:49The game of football is a lot easier to play
- 9:52when you have a lead as opposed to when you're
- 9:54playing from behind.
- 9:55Speaker 4: When you have the lead, you have all of your.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Game plan at your disposal, can make the necessary adjustments
- 10:01because you can foreshadow and see what's coming when you're
- 10:04playing from behind, you're in a little bit more scramble mode,
- 10:07and sometimes you have to scrap the original game plan.
- 10:10You have to go to, you know, your contingency plans
- 10:13of maybe, you know what, if this Plan A didn't work,
- 10:16you got to go to Plan B, Plan C. And
- 10:18so we believe in, like I said, our formula for success.
- 10:21We try to get leads. We try to you know,
- 10:25run plays that we think have an opportunity, like I said,
- 10:27to move the football and score. We try to play
- 10:29really sound defense. And then if we can get that lead,
- 10:32especially into the second half, and it's a multiple score lead,
- 10:35and now you have to start to really throw the ball,
- 10:37which is something that we wanted to get better at
- 10:39from a year ago, is all right, now they have
- 10:41to go throw it. Now let's go rush the passer,
- 10:44and now we can affect the quarterback and create turnovers
- 10:46and things.
- 10:47Speaker 4: And so it is a formula that works.
- 10:49Speaker 5: That The key for us is we've been fortunate that
- 10:52we've got to play that way all year long, and
- 10:57that's the ideal way. But we have to be prepared
- 10:59for the way too, because that day's probably going to
- 11:02come at some point and we have to make sure
- 11:04that we're more than equipped to handle that as well.
- 11:06Speaker 3: All Right, we're going to hear more from Loghorn's head coach,
- 11:08Steve sarsakeshen coming up in the next hour of the
- 11:10program here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
