Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark Review podcast. I'm Megan.
- 0:03Speaker 1: And on today's mini episode, I had the chance to
- 0:05Speaker 1: speak with Michelle Morgan and Corey Sevier, stars of this
- 0:09Speaker 1: weekend's Pumpkin Regatta Romance, about their time on set, their
- 0:13Speaker 1: roles in this film, and exactly what it was like
- 0:15Speaker 1: trying to paddle those pumpkin boats. We hope you enjoyed
- 0:19Speaker 1: this chat with Corey and Michelle, and we'll be back
- 0:21Speaker 1: next week with our review of Pumpkin Regatta Romance. Once again,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Michelle and Corey, thank you so much for talking to
- 0:28Speaker 1: us today about Pumpkin Regatta romance. And I have to
- 0:30Speaker 1: tell you, when we read the synopsis of this movie,
- 0:32Speaker 1: we immediately Googled Pumpkin Regatta and we were not disappointed.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I have to tell you, we are considering flying to
- 0:40Speaker 1: Oregon for the Tualatin. I mean, I've got to see it.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It's a real thing.
- 0:47Speaker 2: And I didn't know coming into this that it was
- 0:49Speaker 2: a real thing. And like you, I've been like, obviously
- 0:51Speaker 2: we did research before the film and I'm so impressed.
- 0:55Speaker 2: And like, you know, cause you know, obviously what we
- 0:57Speaker 2: did in the film, you know, we had professional people
- 1:00Speaker 2: there helping us like hats off to those who go out.
- 1:03Speaker 2: So if you do it, you got to let us
- 1:04Speaker 2: know how it went.
- 1:06Speaker 1: What was it like paddling those pumpkin boats? We've got
- 1:08Speaker 1: to know.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I needed a lot of pointers.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I needed a lot of help.
- 1:13Speaker 3: We were luckily on a marina with a lot of
- 1:15Speaker 3: boaters that were able to kind of give us some
- 1:16Speaker 3: pointers because in the beginning I kind of just was
- 1:19Speaker 3: going in circles. I mean, it's a round item. Like
- 1:22Speaker 3: you can't, it's really hard to keep it straight. So,
- 1:25Speaker 3: but it was still so much fun. And we were,
- 1:28Speaker 3: and those pumpkins, that was a whole conversation, just like
- 1:32Speaker 3: figuring out how to make it save, how to make
- 1:34Speaker 3: it so it wouldn't tip. So I can't even imagine
- 1:36Speaker 3: if it was a real pumpkin without like an entire
- 1:38Speaker 3: team trying to, you know, balance the thing.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah, the production team.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Did it amazing. Truly, my co-host Wendy was wondering, is
- 1:46Speaker 1: it like a Fred Flintstone situation underneath to keep everybody balanced?
- 1:50Speaker 3: See, we're thinking about doing something like that.
- 1:52Speaker 1: They talked about that.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Oh, I love it.
- 1:55Speaker 3: But in the end, we stayed dry. Yeah, because they
- 1:57Speaker 3: were like, let's keep the actors dry. So they didn't
- 2:00Speaker 3: bottom up the bottom.
- 2:02Speaker 2: They knew we would need more than one take because
- 2:04Speaker 2: the help wasn't coming from me. It was the professionals around.
- 2:07Speaker 2: But part of what I think actually made it so
- 2:10Speaker 2: fun was they let us kind of just feel it out.
- 2:13Speaker 2: And a lot of, you know, Michelle and I've seen,
- 2:15Speaker 2: you know, parts of the film, like a lot of
- 2:18Speaker 2: what really went well and what didn't go well stayed
- 2:21Speaker 2: in the film and like kind of those, you know,
- 2:22Speaker 2: spontaneous moments. So it's, it's kind of cool that, that,
- 2:25Speaker 2: that we got to do it that way.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Well, I love hearing that. Well, look, the two of
- 2:29Speaker 1: you are obviously not in the same place right now,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but even on this interview, it's very clear that you
- 2:34Speaker 1: have fun chemistry with each other. You had both best
- 2:37Speaker 1: friend and romantic chemistry there. In this movie, and I'm curious,
- 2:41Speaker 1: how did you build that behind the scenes? Did you
- 2:43Speaker 1: have a chance to work together ahead of filming?
- 2:45Speaker 3: No, I mean, I think it's one of those things
- 2:47Speaker 3: like with actors, you just meet people and sometimes you
- 2:49Speaker 3: just click and you just have like a natural chemistry.
- 2:52Speaker 3: I think we are in very similar places in our
- 2:54Speaker 3: lives with our kids. And we had a lot of
- 2:56Speaker 3: things to talk about with our kids and our family life.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Also being from Toronto and just like, just that element.
- 3:03Speaker 3: We just, I think everything just, we just have like, yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 3: we have a lot of things in common and it
- 3:07Speaker 3: comes across and we're both cancers too. I'm a Zodiac.
- 3:10Speaker 3: We're both cancers.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. She was like, are you a cancer? Okay.
- 3:14Speaker 2: This'll be all right. We'll be good.
- 3:16Speaker 3: We'll be okay.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 2: No, I, I kind of second that it was just
- 3:20Speaker 2: sort of an immediate ease and we had so much
- 3:22Speaker 2: in common and, and, you know, and, and Michelle's such
- 3:25Speaker 2: a great actress as well. And like comedically, like, We
- 3:28Speaker 2: just kind of said, let's just have fun with this,
- 3:30Speaker 2: see where it goes. And hopefully it translated because we
- 3:34Speaker 2: were laughing pretty much from start to finish on this
- 3:36Speaker 2: whole thing.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it was really fun.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Well, Michelle, you mentioned you are both from Toronto. You
- 3:41Speaker 1: had not crossed paths before making this movie? No.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Not in the Hallmark world at all. That's great. Yeah.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Well, Corey, your wife did write this script, and I'm curious,
- 3:52Speaker 1: ahead of time, you have made several movies together, and
- 3:55Speaker 1: I know you've had input on some of the stories
- 3:57Speaker 1: for these movies. Did you get a sneak peek at
- 3:59Speaker 1: Ethan ahead of time, or did you read the script
- 4:01Speaker 1: at the same time as everyone else?
- 4:03Speaker 2: You know what? This time around, usually I'm quite involved
- 4:07Speaker 2: in the development process, and the other films I've done,
- 4:09Speaker 2: I've directed. So obviously I'm there through all of it,
- 4:12Speaker 2: but this one, I was just an actor and they
- 4:15Speaker 2: were doing their thing. And it was literally like such a,
- 4:19Speaker 2: there was such a rush in the pre-production that I
- 4:21Speaker 2: was like, can I see it? She's like, it's not
- 4:22Speaker 2: ready yet. So I didn't get to actually see it.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So I kind of read it. The only thing I
- 4:26Speaker 2: did get was of course, talking to my wife, like,
- 4:28Speaker 2: you know, the whole pumpkin regatta thing itself. And I'm like,
- 4:31Speaker 2: are you serious? This is a real thing. She's like, yes.
- 4:33Speaker 2: So she was showing me YouTube videos and everything. So
- 4:36Speaker 2: I very much got to go into this like any
- 4:38Speaker 2: other actor would. It was kind of, surprised by the script.
- 4:41Speaker 2: We had a wonderful director and Liz that kind of
- 4:43Speaker 2: gave us this great creative freedom, but also really kind
- 4:46Speaker 2: of guided the ship really well. And it was good.
- 4:49Speaker 2: So yeah, so this one was new for me just
- 4:51Speaker 2: to be actor. I didn't get my hands in the
- 4:53Speaker 2: pie as much.
- 4:54Speaker 1: A different experience. Well, speaking of different experiences, Michelle, you
- 4:58Speaker 1: spent many years on Young and the Restless and soaps
- 5:01Speaker 1: have a very rapid shooting pace, but Hallmark movies kind
- 5:06Speaker 1: of do too. So how can you compare the two
- 5:08Speaker 1: mediums in terms of being on set?
- 5:10Speaker 3: I think really the only difference is that you're on location.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Other than that, the speed is still, it's still really fast.
- 5:16Speaker 3: We're still shooting with multiple cameras. You still need incredible
- 5:20Speaker 3: talent in front and behind the camera to kind of
- 5:23Speaker 3: get these days that, you know, sometimes you're like, is
- 5:26Speaker 3: this going to be possible? And, you know, with incredible
- 5:29Speaker 3: people at the helm, like we really do pull it out.
- 5:31Speaker 3: And no, I mean, it definitely, I think that's why
- 5:34Speaker 3: a lot of soap people go back and forth because
- 5:37Speaker 3: they're definitely as like a crossover.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:40Speaker 1: You're primed for that pace already.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 5:43Speaker 1: So you are both storytellers behind the camera, Corey, you
- 5:47Speaker 1: direct and develop movies and Michelle, you launched a production company.
- 5:51Speaker 1: What kind of story do you each want to tell next?
- 5:54Speaker 3: Well, for me, I'm just big about telling stories that
- 5:56Speaker 3: really remind people that we're more alike than we are
- 5:59Speaker 3: similar and just connecting people and making people feel less alone.
- 6:02Speaker 3: So all of my stories have kind of that thread and,
- 6:05Speaker 3: And Hallmark is one of those like where it just
- 6:08Speaker 3: makes us feel like we're more connected and we're not alone.
- 6:11Speaker 3: And sometimes you just need that escape. So keep doing
- 6:14Speaker 3: stuff like this.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Exactly. Yeah, I would second that. You know, obviously, my
- 6:20Speaker 2: wife and I are in development on a lot of
- 6:22Speaker 2: different things that we're working on. And it's the same thing.
- 6:24Speaker 2: It's sort of like exploring human behavior and finding that
- 6:28Speaker 2: hope is always sort of a theme that runs through
- 6:31Speaker 2: all the stuff that we that we work on. I've
- 6:34Speaker 2: also recently had an opportunity to work on a few
- 6:35Speaker 2: things that are based on true stories, historical things as well.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I'm always a sucker for period pieces and things like that.
- 6:41Speaker 2: So we're kind of that's sort of in the direction
- 6:45Speaker 2: that we're looking to explore in some of our newer projects.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Amazing. Well, Michelle, Nadine and her dad had this great
- 6:53Speaker 1: relationship where she could be annoyed with him, but it
- 6:55Speaker 1: wasn't relationship. And it was a real father daughter relationship.
- 6:59Speaker 1: It felt like on screen. How did you and Eugene
- 7:03Speaker 1: Clark build that? Was this just another case of the
- 7:04Speaker 1: two of you having natural chemistry together?
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah, like I met Eugene and he is hilarious. So
- 7:11Speaker 3: just having some conversations with him. And he reminded me
- 7:14Speaker 3: a lot of my dad, which I don't think I
- 7:16Speaker 3: never told him this because I don't want to make
- 7:17Speaker 3: him feel strange. But my dad had passed away in 2019.
- 7:21Speaker 3: So kind of being able to just like bond with
- 7:23Speaker 3: an older man that like really kind of has these
- 7:26Speaker 3: little quirks that reminded me of my dad. It just
- 7:28Speaker 3: made it so much fun and almost a little.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Bit healing in a weird way.
- 7:32Speaker 3: So no, that was such a beautiful experience. We had
- 7:35Speaker 3: such beautiful banter and he was so fun and hilarious
- 7:38Speaker 3: to work with and be around. So it was easy.
- 7:40Speaker 3: But yeah, there was a little bit of that just
- 7:42Speaker 3: natural chemistry for sure.
- 7:44Speaker 1: One final lightning round question. There's a lovely cake pop
- 7:47Speaker 1: scene in the movie. And I got to know, are
- 7:48Speaker 1: cake pops actually good or just cute to look at?
- 7:52Speaker 3: The gluten free ones that they got for me because
- 7:53Speaker 3: I try to be gluten free on set just to
- 7:55Speaker 3: kind of keep the bloating down. And they were incredible.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Good to know. What about you, Corey?
- 8:01Speaker 2: Oh, they were so good. Now, by take 18, it
- 8:03Speaker 2: was like a little bit of a sugar rush. But honestly,
- 8:07Speaker 2: they tasted as good as they looked.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Amazing. Thank you so much for your time. I can't
- 8:11Speaker 1: wait for everybody to see this movie this weekend.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Thank you, guys.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 8:28Speaker 1: All right, friends, before we go, just a quick heads up.
- 8:30Speaker 1: You're about to hear some ads. These little gems help
- 8:32Speaker 1: us keep the show running and the Hallmark love flowing.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So do with that info what you will. Grab a snack,
- 8:39Speaker 1: hit the skip button, or maybe, just maybe, listen in
- 8:42Speaker 1: and discover your new favorite product.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Bye.
