Latest / Family Prayer Podcast / 20. Letting the Icing Dry - Friday Evening
Transcript
- 0:00Good evening, Grace Harbor - it’s Dan!
- 0:03I hope you had a great Friday and an awesome week.
- 0:07My family and I got started on our gingerbread house tonight after dinner.
- 0:11I was planning on saving it for the weekend, but my wife reminded me that
- 0:15one of the reasons last year’s fell over was that we started decorating it
- 0:19before the icing that was holding the house together dried.
- 0:23Icing can be a pretty good glue, but you have to let it set.
- 0:27If you move on too fast, things start to lean and slide and even fall over!
- 0:33So, we built the structure tonight, and after it’s
- 0:36had a chance to lock in, we’ll get to decorating tomorrow.
- 0:40One of the things we’ll do regularly on Friday evenings is reflect on our week.
- 0:45We’ll think back over what we did,
- 0:47what was important to us, and how God was with us through it all.
- 0:51It’s like letting the icing dry.
- 0:54It locks in the good stuff from the week so it doesn’t just slip away.
- 0:58I am going to lead you through three reflection questions,
- 1:01and if it’s not too late, I encourage you to take your time.
- 1:05Plan on pausing the podcast, and if something someone shares
- 1:09leads to more questions or a deeper discussion, feel free to keep talking.
- 1:14I’ll be here when you get back.
- 1:16And if it is getting late, you could always write
- 1:18some of those things down and pick the conversation back up this weekend.
- 1:22Let’s start with this question: what was something good
- 1:26that happened to you this week and why was it good?
- 1:29For me, I had lunch on Wednesday with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while.
- 1:34It was so good to catch up.
- 1:36We spent most of the meal laughing, and that always makes me feel good.
- 1:40Go ahead now and share your answers.
- 2:11Our second question for tonight is: what was something good
- 2:14that you helped to make happen for someone else and why was that good?
- 2:20For me, I go back to my Gratituesday trip to the coffee shop
- 2:23when I told my favorite barista, Bobby, how much his friendship means to me.
- 2:27He broke out into a huge smile, and I could tell it meant something to him
- 2:31to hear that he was more than just the guy who makes my coffee.
- 2:35Go ahead and share your answers when you’re ready.
- 3:06Ok, last question
- 3:08for the week: what’s one word that describes this week,
- 3:11and what’s one word you hope describes next week?
- 3:15This week, I might use the word “remember.”
- 3:19We talked a lot about Grace Harbor’s history, and it’s cool to think about
- 3:23how people like John and Grace and the sailors and the people
- 3:26who eventually settled here, they all worked together
- 3:30to build this town into what it was and what it still is today.
- 3:34The word I hope describes next week is…
- 3:38I’ll say “prepare.” Christmas
- 3:41is only two weeks from yesterday, and I still have some preparing to do!
- 3:45Take your time and share once you’ve got something.
- 4:16Ok, as we draw to a close this week, I just wanted to remind you
- 4:20that the podcast will be off over the weekend, while I take time
- 4:23to rest and recharge and finish the gingerbread house with my family.
- 4:28I hope you’ll also find some time for both rest and fun.
- 4:32I’ll be back on Monday morning, when we launch into the third week
- 4:35of Advent with the theme of joy!
- 4:38We’ll also mark the day when a couple of brothers
- 4:41saw their dreams take flight - for real!
- 4:44Ok, let’s pray.
- 4:46“Dear God, thank you for all of the Grace Harbor
- 4:50families seeking to be peace-makers and safe harbors.
- 4:54Thank you that Jesus, our Prince of Peace, is always working
- 4:58to make good things happen in our lives and in the world.
- 5:01Watch over us this weekend, and bring us back together again next week.
- 5:06Amen.” Alright, Grace Harbor!
- 5:08Have a great weekend, and I’ll talk to you Monday!
