Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: You know, time of it is here we got Jenny Graham,
- 0:11Speaker 1: you know, just a guy who made it thirteen years
- 0:13Speaker 1: in the league.
- 0:13Speaker 2: How many Pro Bowls?
- 0:14Speaker 1: Too?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Damn many? How many All Pros? You know, he's got a.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Few more than me, because I mean it is just
- 0:21Speaker 1: a perennial Pro Bowl or just a guy who was
- 0:24Speaker 1: a force to me record with not only with the Saints,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Seattle and then other places, but he came back to
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Saints, another place with Chicago Green Bay. But like again,
- 0:32Speaker 1: he came back to the Saint and finished strong as
- 0:35Speaker 1: the red zone target, as a man who ran routes,
- 0:38Speaker 1: as a guy who I've seen over a thousand yards
- 0:40Speaker 1: at tight end.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I don't know if your tight end can't do what
- 0:41Speaker 2: he was doing.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Really broke the mode in terms of basketball players, the
- 0:46Speaker 1: tight ends like the Antonio Gates era, right, yeah, I
- 0:48Speaker 1: mean when we think about, oh, like a big guy
- 0:51Speaker 1: can move, wiggle around, but let's talk about the and
- 0:54Speaker 1: can move. You know, you Q came into the league
- 0:57Speaker 1: and guys sort of doubted your speed. I know, there
- 1:00Speaker 1: there was there was There wasn't even a rumor there
- 1:01Speaker 1: was an official race between DJ Williams of Old and
- 1:06Speaker 1: Jimmy Graham.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Jimmy who won that race.
- 1:08Speaker 1: We're not gonna say what the monetary value of the
- 1:10Speaker 1: race was over the rumors around.
- 1:12Speaker 2: It, but who won the race?
- 1:13Speaker 3: Oh well that was definitely me, absolutely.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Absolutely, you know, and confirmed by multiple.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Others multiples because a lot of people were betting on it.
- 1:20Speaker 3: But that started. I gave him three months to train
- 1:22Speaker 3: for that. I was up like two seventy at the time,
- 1:25Speaker 3: and I guess I ran like a four to four
- 1:27Speaker 3: or something in that. Yeah, you got to for the money.
- 1:31Speaker 2: The money of pride, because at the time, you know,
- 1:33Speaker 2: you're not to bet on anything like that. You know. Well,
- 1:38Speaker 2: the things that I've never done in New Orleans is
- 1:40Speaker 2: win a.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Super Bowl, you know, trust man, I know. Yeah, it's
- 1:47Speaker 3: You're able to come in here and catch up a
- 1:48Speaker 3: lot of people. But you know when the Super bowls
- 1:51Speaker 3: in your hometown and and uh, you know, you sit
- 1:53Speaker 3: here and you never had that experience of even playing
- 1:56Speaker 3: in one. Yeah, I mean each yep, I mean you know,
- 1:58Speaker 3: I went and you know, uh, let's say, like, you know,
- 2:02Speaker 3: when I went to Green Bay, you know, my assisiant
- 2:04Speaker 3: go to Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers, and I saw everything
- 2:06Speaker 3: going on I was like, I'm just trying to look
- 2:08Speaker 3: to who's gonna maybe be close to have an opportunity
- 2:11Speaker 3: in Super Bowl, and you know it's it's uh yeah,
- 2:15Speaker 3: I mean I took ten million less to go there,
- 2:16Speaker 3: and because it wasn't about the money. It was about
- 2:18Speaker 3: getting the opportunity to to go out on that field
- 2:21Speaker 3: on a Sunday like this and and battle with your boys.
- 2:24Speaker 3: And you know, it's just something that evaded me for
- 2:26Speaker 3: thirteen years has abited you as well. And you know
- 2:29Speaker 3: it it it can be annoying, that's for sure. Man.
- 2:34Speaker 1: You know that that is the ultimate prize in our
- 2:38Speaker 1: in our profession. And as you look at it, you know,
- 2:41Speaker 1: you you went thirteen and you went to a couple
- 2:43Speaker 1: of teams and like you know, saw playoffs.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Seattle. Right when I went there, Legion
- 2:48Speaker 3: a boom Era. Uh, you know, what more could we want?
- 2:54Speaker 3: We had the best running back in the game at
- 2:55Speaker 3: the time. You know, Russ was playing well. Uh, we
- 2:59Speaker 3: had a ton of receivers and the defense was just
- 3:02Speaker 3: absolute beasts. So you know, I mean that's why you
- 3:04Speaker 3: when I got traded, it was like, well, I'm still
- 3:06Speaker 3: going to a playoff team and I have an opportunity,
- 3:09Speaker 3: so you know, I'm trying to make that work. And
- 3:12Speaker 3: but you know, you could chase it all you want to,
- 3:13Speaker 3: and sometimes you know, it's just those those chips don't
- 3:17Speaker 3: lay down as it should. Right.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Beyond that, going going through multiple teams, do you pick
- 3:22Speaker 1: up new hates like as as as the Saints, Sueeze
- 3:26Speaker 1: typically go out a way to hate the Falcons, and
- 3:28Speaker 1: the Falcons.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Typically go out their way to hate us.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you go to Seattle, did you do you hate
- 3:32Speaker 1: the Cardinals the Rams? Do do you find a hate
- 3:35Speaker 1: or is it just you?
- 3:37Speaker 3: You It depends on how long you're there, so you
- 3:39Speaker 3: eventually do find some type of hate, you know, like
- 3:42Speaker 3: for US sanfraan right, Seattle with Sanfra always was uh
- 3:47Speaker 3: you know, especially that defense. You know, were always trying
- 3:49Speaker 3: to show up and do kind of do our thing
- 3:52Speaker 3: when it in Green Bay. Uh, you know, the the
- 3:56Speaker 3: hate there between Minnesota Minnesota is then, you know, especially
- 4:01Speaker 3: when Zen was there and that defense. Uh, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 3: sometimes the way they were playing a little dirty and
- 4:08Speaker 3: how it was you know, so that those games were
- 4:10Speaker 3: always so intens especially when we go to Minnesota. But yeah,
- 4:14Speaker 3: you have new but I had never faced anything like
- 4:16Speaker 3: it was since Falcons. You know, that was just we
- 4:20Speaker 3: don't like you. We're going out here saying stuff in
- 4:22Speaker 3: the media, We're gonna see here and then try to
- 4:24Speaker 3: embarrass you, and you know, there's there's no friends on
- 4:28Speaker 3: the other.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Side, right, You're like, I see you, and also I
- 4:31Speaker 1: hate you. Yeah, I hope, I hope you don't die.
- 4:33Speaker 1: But also I'm trying to.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Get exactly exactly.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Exactly I mean, are you still doing the Archer Challenge?
- 4:39Speaker 1: Yes, we talked about this now officially now like two
- 4:42Speaker 1: years ago in a hot tub. You're like, yeah, man,
- 4:44Speaker 1: me and my guys we're gonna And I was looking
- 4:45Speaker 1: at you, like, well, we're sitting in the hot tubs,
- 4:49Speaker 1: so this doesn't make sense for me to ever be
- 4:52Speaker 1: in anything cold. I know you've been training. I mean
- 4:55Speaker 1: last time, last time I saw you had like road rash.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I got so I was I just started. Yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 3: I just started my training for the row and I
- 5:05Speaker 3: got a bike accident, missed like I was missing half
- 5:07Speaker 3: my skin. So I wasn't even allowed to train for
- 5:09Speaker 3: this row. So while I was on this boat, this
- 5:11Speaker 3: was last week, so we had our first open sea
- 5:13Speaker 3: trial for the Arctic Challenge twenty twenty five, and I'm
- 5:16Speaker 3: sitting there missing half my skin on my leg, like
- 5:20Speaker 3: my hands are missing skin.
- 5:21Speaker 2: We sat down the lunch and I'm just like, what happened?
- 5:23Speaker 3: Yeah? Brutal, brutal. So you know, I'm managing that, trying
- 5:26Speaker 3: to make sure stuff doesn't get infected. And then we're
- 5:29Speaker 3: sitting on this boat for two overnights Miami, Alamarada to Miami.
- 5:34Speaker 3: And where's Alamarada? Don't just the words out there that
- 5:36Speaker 3: I understand. That's a that's in the keys. It's right
- 5:39Speaker 3: right above Marathon keys. Yeah, yeah, Flota keys. And so
- 5:44Speaker 3: I burned nine thousand calories a day as we're out there. Uh,
- 5:49Speaker 3: And I mean we learned a lot on the sea trial,
- 5:50Speaker 3: but yeah, the biggest thing I learned is this is
- 5:53Speaker 3: just going to be brutal. You know, I was sleeping
- 5:55Speaker 3: broken sleep through. I was a night because you can
- 5:57Speaker 3: only sleep for fifty minutes at a time, So basically
- 6:00Speaker 3: I went nine to eleven the first night. Then alarm
- 6:04Speaker 3: went off. I switch out with Andrew. I do some
- 6:06Speaker 3: navigation and stuff, make sure our way point's good, get
- 6:09Speaker 3: some food in me, lay down for a little bit. Finally,
- 6:11Speaker 3: fifty minutes alarm goes off. I wake back up. Now
- 6:14Speaker 3: it's one o'clock. I crawl out of this like little
- 6:18Speaker 3: hot box of a thing. It's kind of chilly outside,
- 6:21Speaker 3: kind of cold. And then you sit and jump on
- 6:23Speaker 3: this row, sit for two hours in a row, and
- 6:25Speaker 3: then you do that again, which would be that's five o'clock.
- 6:30Speaker 3: And that's just NonStop. The boat is always moving twenty
- 6:34Speaker 3: four to seven.
- 6:34Speaker 1: How much communication is going on between you and your
- 6:37Speaker 1: your boat mates shipmates teammates.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Yeah, quite a bit. Like so I'm rowing with hand
- 6:42Speaker 3: on normally, so you know, we're always chatting and talking
- 6:44Speaker 3: and saying so there's music playing, but at night it's
- 6:47Speaker 3: just pure silence and all you can hear is the
- 6:49Speaker 3: oars for two straight hours. Yeah, this is and you know,
- 6:55Speaker 3: because you're you're facing the other way right that the
- 6:58Speaker 3: boat's going, and so you're just looking at the back
- 7:02Speaker 3: of a wall and these numbers. Do you have a
- 7:04Speaker 3: cocksmith and no, no, no, I've got a little now
- 7:07Speaker 3: Cox Cox Coxon Cox. We had one for the head
- 7:11Speaker 3: of the trials obviously because he's got a steer. But yeah,
- 7:14Speaker 3: for this, you know, it's me. You know, I'm the
- 7:15Speaker 3: lead navigator, so I got to make sure we don't
- 7:17Speaker 3: you know that we get from point into point B.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Why you're sleep for for an hour fifty minutes of
- 7:22Speaker 2: so what the hell you mean? Fifty for two days straight?
- 7:25Speaker 2: And then when this when when this challenge how happens?
- 7:27Speaker 2: How many days is that?
- 7:28Speaker 3: The world records fifteen days four hours? So this will
- 7:31Speaker 3: be NonStop like that, but only that the boat but brother, yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 3: trust me, bro, this boat is so tippy, like you know,
- 7:40Speaker 3: it's built for speed. So if one person walks on
- 7:43Speaker 3: one side, the whole boat's tipping over.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Are you supposed to sleep through that?
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean we'll waves like so up there in
- 7:48Speaker 3: the Arctic, it's the average temperature in July is going
- 7:51Speaker 3: to be thirty five forty, the water temperatures twenty eight.
- 7:55Speaker 3: The winds are seventeen to twenty six knots and gusting
- 7:59Speaker 3: thirty five forty something, and the swells can get up
- 8:02Speaker 3: to sixteen feet.
- 8:03Speaker 2: So one day you woke up and was like, you
- 8:05Speaker 2: know what, this coolball is too easy for me. I've
- 8:07Speaker 2: had too much success. My business is booming off the field.
- 8:10Speaker 2: You know what, what is going to challenge? Me.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I already fly helicopters and planes. You know what, the Arctic?
- 8:18Speaker 1: How do you even have a dream to say the Arctic?
- 8:20Speaker 3: I never had a dream about this. This is all
- 8:21Speaker 3: from my boy. My boy, he graduated from Cambridge guys NBA.
- 8:25Speaker 3: We're at a pub. He's always want to roll across
- 8:27Speaker 3: the ocean. He basically convinces me after a couple of drinks,
- 8:30Speaker 3: of course, and now yeah, oh wait, that's usually how
- 8:34Speaker 3: it gets involved. Yeah, and and and so now I'm
- 8:37Speaker 3: run across the ocean. But it's cool because we do
- 8:39Speaker 3: have the opportunity to raise quite a bit of money.
- 8:41Speaker 3: We're gonna do this thing called the Million Meters Challenge
- 8:43Speaker 3: where we're gonna try to raise a dollar per meter,
- 8:45Speaker 3: which will be a million meters to support the charities
- 8:50Speaker 3: that were here, which is Laws and the Covenant House.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Covenant House. They they shelter, it's a it's a homeless
- 8:58Speaker 3: shelter for kids twenty two and lower, and then Lauris
- 9:04Speaker 3: introduces kids into sports. So it's for a good cause,
- 9:08Speaker 3: but it's gonna be the hardest and most protal thing
- 9:10Speaker 3: I've ever done.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that just sounds amazing for me. Sleeping waking
- 9:15Speaker 1: up going oh, you know, because you're going to be
- 9:18Speaker 1: lack of sleep, oh beyond I mean it will be
- 9:21Speaker 1: a good person when I get angry, let alone, like
- 9:22Speaker 1: lack of.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Sleep, oh man, and then making right decisions. Right. So
- 9:26Speaker 3: that's one of the things is like this mind gym
- 9:28Speaker 3: really understanding training the mind because I'm gonna weather calms
- 9:31Speaker 3: and I have to set a route and I've got
- 9:33Speaker 3: to make sure that route's good. So yeah, it's gonna
- 9:35Speaker 3: be serious. All right.
- 9:36Speaker 2: So when you get into serious training, this happens in
- 9:39Speaker 2: ju said July.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Yeah, so we leave in June, we wait for the
- 9:42Speaker 3: weather window, it'll be July. Our next seat trial is
- 9:45Speaker 3: in March, and then the boat get shipped off. Jeez. Yeah,
- 9:49Speaker 3: this is this is insane. So there's only been sixteen
- 9:53Speaker 3: people to ever do this route ever. Yeah, so there's
- 9:56Speaker 3: been more people to walk on the Moon than have
- 9:58Speaker 3: attempted to row this route. That's how dangerous this is.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:02Speaker 1: All right, but at least you're you're doing it for
- 10:05Speaker 1: a good cause. Million meters possibly over a million dollars,
- 10:08Speaker 1: you know.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Yeah, we're hoping, I mean, because all this is happening,
- 10:12Speaker 3: you know, to change the lives of kids here locally
- 10:14Speaker 3: in New Orleans, kids who have been through a lot,
- 10:17Speaker 3: who just need opportunities, and this is going to help
- 10:21Speaker 3: provide those things.
- 10:23Speaker 1: What are you what are you most excited about on
- 10:26Speaker 1: this challenge? And what are you most worried about in
- 10:30Speaker 1: this challenge? Okay, that you have the apparently the nautical
- 10:33Speaker 1: experience to now be.
- 10:34Speaker 3: The navigator, Yeah, I would say them uh leaving Trump SA,
- 10:40Speaker 3: we have to get out of the Fjords, which is
- 10:42Speaker 3: gonna be very dangerous Felds. But yet we're still in
- 10:45Speaker 3: the Fjords, so that's gonna be absolutely beautiful.
- 10:48Speaker 1: The only time I've ever heard fjords is in the
- 10:50Speaker 1: TV show The Vikings.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah continue, Yeah, I mean basically they play. And then
- 10:55Speaker 3: not only that, the glacier is that we're going to
- 10:58Speaker 3: is uh, you know, home to polar bears and all
- 11:01Speaker 3: these other things. So being able to see that's going
- 11:02Speaker 3: to be pretty cool. The biggest thing I'm looking forward
- 11:05Speaker 3: to is my first meal after this is over, and
- 11:08Speaker 3: how much food I'm gonna eat right is going to
- 11:10Speaker 3: be out of control. But the biggest worries of this thing,
- 11:16Speaker 3: there's a lot. Yeah, the water maker has to work,
- 11:20Speaker 3: so We've got to get that dialed in because it's
- 11:22Speaker 3: colder up there, so the density of the water is different.
- 11:24Speaker 3: So you have to reset this water maker to be
- 11:27Speaker 3: able to clean that type of salt water. And you
- 11:29Speaker 3: have to understand that. So that's a problem. I keep
- 11:32Speaker 3: going too, apparently up there in the cabin because they
- 11:35Speaker 3: got to be completely sealed, because that's the only reason,
- 11:38Speaker 3: that's the only way the boat, if it rolls over,
- 11:40Speaker 3: won't sink.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Well.
- 11:41Speaker 3: When they're sealed, you run out of oxygen in there,
- 11:45Speaker 3: and because of your body heat, it creates like conversation everywhere.
- 11:52Speaker 3: So this one team that did it, they had about
- 11:54Speaker 3: a foot of water in the cabinet that they were
- 11:56Speaker 3: sleeping in for like a month on.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I don't understand the intrigue for a man
- 12:03Speaker 1: who has jumped out of planes, for a man who's
- 12:05Speaker 1: flown those planes, for a man who has a trick
- 12:07Speaker 1: plane and flown with the Blue Angels.
- 12:09Speaker 2: And I'm just like, I'm gonna just like.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Give you your flowers now because apparently you're you're going
- 12:14Speaker 1: this is the last reckless feet.
- 12:15Speaker 3: That I have to like no, no, no, no, no, well.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Me, no, no, no, no, no, there's nothing more reckless than like, okay,
- 12:19Speaker 1: so there's the moon next.
- 12:21Speaker 3: No, it's all about mitigating risks, which we're doing constantly.
- 12:23Speaker 3: That's why I've been so.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Busy mitigating risks.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Would be like, hey, let me not take my ass
- 12:28Speaker 1: onto THETIC challenge. But you're doing it for the kids,
- 12:30Speaker 1: and I can't fight that.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Part of it.
- 12:32Speaker 3: That's problem is I'm too far into this point. So
- 12:34Speaker 3: we're all in on this. And not only that, but
- 12:36Speaker 3: some of the issues of weather, we're gonna get hit
- 12:38Speaker 3: by a weather system.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I'll get to escort with this, Like is there gonna
- 12:42Speaker 1: be something like if you have to bail you.
- 12:44Speaker 3: That is the biggest issue. The biggest issue is because
- 12:47Speaker 3: we're going after world records, you cannot have a boat
- 12:49Speaker 3: following you, so it's unassisted. Well, we'll be up there completely.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Like you had to say, there's other worries. Now, that
- 12:55Speaker 2: is the biggest worry. If I need help, there is
- 12:58Speaker 2: no help.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Well, all those other well, all those other things.
- 13:01Speaker 1: That's why you like because like some some people are like, man,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I don't know if I can swim like that.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Well, I mean like I'm technically going to be the
- 13:08Speaker 3: first light skin ever up there. So you know that's
- 13:10Speaker 3: where record.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I okay, yeah yeah, somebody gotta fight back for Drake.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I have too. I'm gonna do my best. Well.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I appreciate you be tapping into the pop always
