- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hello, and welcome to Stories with the Book Corner.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: I'm Andrea Spencer, St.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Paul Book Corner Manager, and I'm so glad you're here.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Do you have a favorite treasure?
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's a special toy, a pretty rock, or something you've collected over time.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: But what if the very best thing in life aren't things at all?
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Today's story reminds us that some of our greatest treasures are the memories we make and the friends we share with them.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Turn on your listening ears and enjoy today's story.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Robinson's New Thing, written and illustrated by Julia Mills.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Robinson loved to collect big things, small things, and all things in between.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: His treasures made him happy.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: He had a tray for trinkets, a desk for doodads, a shelf for shells.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: What a collection! He was so pleased.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: He didn't hear a tiny hey.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Hello?
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, I thought you were a shell.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Well, I have a shell.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: My name's Rosie.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: I'm Robinson.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: And this is my collection.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Isn't it the greatest you've ever seen?
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Why do you think it's the greatest?
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Because I have so many things.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Would you like to see my collection?
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: This way.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Stop just about here.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: This is your collection?
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: There's nothing here.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Well, it's my collection of breezes.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Now, let's go to the creek.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: What do you collect there?
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Rocks?
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Shells?
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: I collect the bubbles.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: But I can't catch them.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: That's the best part.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Splash.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Boing.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Let me show you one more thing.
- 2:12unknown: Wow.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: I wish I could keep everything we saw today.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, I keep it all.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: I stick it here.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: In my head.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: It's been a long day.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: I'm sleepy.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Good night.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Back home, Robinson couldn't sleep.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: He had had a great day with Rosie, but something was different.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: He had nothing to add to his collection.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: And as he looked over the trinkets and doodads, rocks, and sticks, he realized they were just all things.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: But when he closed his eyes, he remembered the bubbles dancing on his paws, the breezes in his fur, and the warmth of a friend by his side.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Rosie, Rosie! When he opened his eyes, he couldn't wait to start the day.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: I want more.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: More things?
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Rosie asked.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: No, more, not things, Robinson answered.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Have you ever seen the dewdrops in the morning?
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: They look like diamonds.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Robinson and Rosie loved to collect big experiences, tiny moments, and even occasionally a shiny rock.
