Sunday Night CrossFit Talk (on a Saturday) - Rogue Invitational Wrap Up Day 2! · Clydesdale Media Podcast

0:00
We're about to talk about Rogue.
0:02
Yeah, yeah.
0:08
Welcome to the show.
0:10
It's time to ignite.
0:11
Scott's silky smooth voice keeps the vibes
0:14
just right.
0:14
Caroline on the mic,
0:16
wants a star on the ice.
0:18
Game's athlete so strong,
0:19
keeps the balance precise.
0:21
And Jamie's in the house.
0:23
The engine full of grit,
0:25
never backing down.
0:26
Down doesn't know the word present.
0:32
It is Sunday night CrossFit talk on a
0:35
Friday.
0:36
Yeah.
1:01
Got Jamie in the house.
1:02
We have some special guests today because
1:04
Carolyn is busy doing something.
1:06
Not sure exactly what that is.
1:09
Not it.
1:09
Some, okay.
1:18
Jamie's in the house and then we've got
1:21
Garrett Clinton and we've got Joseph
1:24
Ramirez with us.
1:25
We're going to talk about Rogue.
1:27
We're not going to take up a lot
1:28
of your day,
1:29
but we just wanted to recap the day.
1:31
Our girl Carolyn Prevost is in the chat.
1:34
Hey.
1:37
But hopefully she got a good dinner
1:38
because they had to do some work today.
1:44
Yeah, they did.
1:45
First thing I say,
1:46
I was watching the Bears last night.
1:48
till eleven thirty,
1:50
the game ended and then I couldn't sleep.
1:53
And so it was like one a.m.
1:55
and then I would I rolled over at
1:57
six a.m.,
1:58
turned on Rogue from the bed and watched
2:01
the first event before I got up for
2:02
work.
2:03
Wow.
2:04
That's dedication.
2:06
I am hurting a bit.
2:09
Sounds like it.
2:10
Can't do that anymore.
2:11
Those days are over.
2:12
No way.
2:15
And then Jamie's texting me.
2:16
I don't even pay attention to my phone
2:17
during a Bears game.
2:19
Like, I don't.
2:20
She's texting me like, well,
2:21
that was a good catch.
2:22
Well, that was twenty minutes ago.
2:23
I don't even know what she's talking about
2:24
anymore.
2:24
No,
2:25
I text you right after that long throw
2:28
from May that I, like,
2:30
I thought that guy caught it.
2:33
I know, but I didn't see it for,
2:34
like, twenty minutes.
2:36
No, you wrote back, like, within, like,
2:38
two minutes.
2:39
So, you were pretty quick to respond.
2:44
Okay.
2:44
It felt like twenty minutes.
2:46
My whole life was going before my eyes
2:49
last night.
2:52
Corey says, Carolyn, go get some sleep.
2:54
For Pete's sake.
2:55
It's what?
2:56
Nine, ten, almost ten o'clock there?
2:58
Yeah,
2:58
you probably should be going to bed pretty
3:03
soon.
3:04
Yeah.
3:05
So,
3:05
I want to just first get your
3:07
overarching...
3:10
opinions about the broadcast,
3:13
what you saw,
3:13
the workouts we'll go through each workout
3:16
individually in a minute,
3:17
but just overarching your thoughts on the
3:19
day.
3:22
Um,
3:23
I like right when I turned this on,
3:24
I was so struck by how similar to
3:30
WFP.
3:31
And I don't know if I've just never
3:32
like linked that before or what it may
3:35
be just because we were just at the
3:36
WFP, but I'm like,
3:38
man you got that like the black in
3:41
the background the just to me I it
3:46
it seems like maybe WFP took their play
3:48
cards from Rogue they had you know the
3:51
which they didn't have when we were there
3:53
but you know the name and the reps
3:55
on the rig we had liked from London
3:57
or whatever it was um yeah to me
4:01
it was just overarching I was like oh
4:02
this looks like WFP
4:05
Yeah.
4:05
The floor's lit just like WFP, the,
4:08
they black out the crowd.
4:10
So it was a lot like that.
4:12
I see what you're saying.
4:13
G.
4:14
Man,
4:15
me and Colleen were watching it together
4:17
on the couch,
4:18
just snuggled up with the dogs.
4:19
And for a fan, it was awesome.
4:21
Like you could follow everything.
4:23
You kind of knew where everything was.
4:26
The back squat one was a little bit,
4:28
but we did get to see Carolyn sprint
4:30
to the end of that one.
4:31
That was freaking amazing.
4:33
That was so cool.
4:36
um yeah it was fun for from a
4:37
fan it was fun to watch follow everything
4:40
the commentators were great you gotta love
4:42
adrian and uh and sean it was cool
4:47
joseph yeah i mean that's that's what
4:50
rogue is clean yeah you do have the
4:54
wfp look but i mean you can't beat
4:57
that that green from rogue
5:04
Well, at the last WP,
5:05
they had turf on the floor too.
5:07
So it had a really eerily similar look.
5:11
I see what Jamie's saying.
5:14
But what hit me is,
5:16
I don't know what they're broadcasting in.
5:18
It's way beyond four K.
5:20
It's like twenty four K. It is.
5:23
I think it is clearer than my real
5:24
life.
5:25
Aren't they partnered with CBS or they're
5:27
doing something through CBS?
5:30
They always have in the past.
5:31
I did not see the CBS flag on
5:33
the mics this time.
5:34
No, it was.
5:35
It was on Kiki's.
5:36
It was on Kiki's mic.
5:39
Okay, there it is.
5:40
So cool.
5:41
Yeah, they always partner with CBS,
5:45
and that's why I think they get those
5:46
really cool graphics that float over the
5:48
floor,
5:49
just like you see on an NFL game,
5:53
which I love to death.
5:55
It makes it so easy to see the
5:57
heats, who's in them.
6:00
They have the names in the lanes before
6:02
they go.
6:04
Like that stuff that we haven't seen in
6:06
a long time on a CrossFit broadcast other
6:09
than Roke.
6:10
The Viking press was awesome too,
6:12
because they had the top number of reps
6:13
for male and female in one corner.
6:15
And then the number of reps that the
6:17
actual athletes who were going,
6:19
what they were on.
6:20
So you could kind of see where they
6:21
were at in comparison to the overall
6:24
leaders.
6:24
And that was really cool.
6:25
That made it so like you could cheer
6:27
and just be like, come on,
6:28
you got three more.
6:29
Like it was, that made it exciting.
6:33
Yeah,
6:35
and I actually thought that while it
6:38
wasn't perfect,
6:39
the broadcast gave more camera angles than
6:43
we've been seeing over the past few years
6:47
from a traditional CrossFit broadcast.
6:50
It wasn't just one person all the time.
6:53
They did bounce around some,
6:55
and they did get some wide views.
6:57
Without the wide view,
6:58
we don't get to see Carolyn sprint to
6:59
the end.
7:00
Yeah, that was cool.
7:03
Did you do any of the other camera
7:05
views?
7:06
Because you were watching it live.
7:07
I didn't.
7:09
I did a little bit.
7:11
I don't have that option for my bed
7:13
at six a.m.
7:16
But I did watch it a little bit
7:18
during the day.
7:19
It was really, really good.
7:21
I still found that I was even like
7:25
there was even times where Adrian would
7:26
like go to talk about somebody and the
7:28
camera would switch.
7:29
And I think even he like he was
7:31
like, OK,
7:32
I guess we're moving on from that and
7:34
had to.
7:35
I my mind all the time.
7:36
I'm always like, why are we watching this?
7:38
Why?
7:39
Again,
7:39
why are we watching a finish when there's
7:40
two people fighting on the floor?
7:43
I don't know why they can't tell the
7:45
story on the floor.
7:47
Again, I said it wasn't perfect.
7:50
Frustrations, and I get it.
7:53
But it was better than some of the...
7:56
See,
7:56
in my head is what we just saw,
7:57
which was Wadapalooza-SoCal.
8:00
And there were times you never saw one
8:01
of the teams at all.
8:03
Yeah, I agree.
8:05
And so at least now,
8:07
this was a step up from that.
8:12
And the other thing is,
8:14
the crowd looked really good for a Friday.
8:15
Yeah.
8:16
Yeah, that's full.
8:17
Yeah, that's what Carolyn's saying.
8:25
Pull in there.
8:25
The floor looks nice for Friday and the
8:27
stadium looks floor looks nice.
8:29
And for Friday,
8:30
the stadium had a good amount of people.
8:32
That's great.
8:34
Yeah,
8:34
I think it helps that they put the
8:35
hill on one end because then it pushes
8:37
the crowds more compressed.
8:40
Yeah.
8:42
And I think other events should like look
8:43
into that,
8:44
like find ways to compress the crowd.
8:47
So it looks better.
8:48
It's all about perception.
8:52
Like for the CrossFit games,
8:53
we keep getting bigger and bigger and
8:55
bigger venues.
8:57
We could have the same number of ticket
8:58
sales,
8:59
but it doesn't look that way because the
9:00
empty seats.
9:06
Yeah.
9:06
Um,
9:07
Yeah,
9:07
I think those are good overarching things.
9:10
Let's talk about the events.
9:13
Event one was the ski erg into the
9:18
wall walk, into the ski erg,
9:20
into the devil's press with the Hulk
9:22
hands.
9:23
River D. I would say of the day,
9:28
this was my least favorite to watch.
9:30
Cause it was long or what?
9:33
Anytime you're inside the rig doing
9:35
something, it's just hard.
9:38
Wall walks are not easy to watch because
9:41
they're all inside the rig.
9:43
Ski erg is ski erg.
9:45
You can't really tell.
9:48
Yeah.
9:48
I would say this was the camera angles.
9:51
I was getting frustrated with some of
9:53
these at this event.
9:54
So yeah, I get what you're saying.
9:57
Oh, man, I loved it.
9:59
See, I thought it was great.
10:00
I had so much fun.
10:01
There were some races in there that were
10:05
fun to watch.
10:06
The Dallin Pepper, James Sprague one,
10:09
until Dallin started getting some no reps.
10:12
Lucy Campbell and Gabby for a little bit.
10:16
They were fire.
10:17
There were some sprints at the end that
10:20
were really, really good.
10:22
For third and fourth place on the women's
10:23
side, they were...
10:26
It was cool.
10:27
Even in that first scene for the guys
10:28
with Harry Lightfoot and Chrissy Ball at
10:30
the very end.
10:33
I will say it's probably going to wind
10:35
up being one of my top two favorite
10:38
events of the weekend.
10:40
But I get what Scott, like workout wise,
10:43
but I get what Scott's saying about being
10:46
under the rig and kind of
10:48
And I will admit,
10:49
if you are a somewhat newer fan to
10:51
the sport,
10:53
it's like twenty minutes of watching back
10:56
and forth of the same thing probably is
10:58
kind of boring to some people.
10:59
I loved it.
11:00
I think it's a great workout.
11:03
Testing their fitness wise,
11:04
I think it's great,
11:05
but I could see where there could be
11:06
some dissenting opinion on that.
11:10
What I'm saying is from a viewer
11:13
standpoint,
11:14
I think it's a great workout and it's
11:16
a long workout,
11:17
which we haven't seen a lot of lately.
11:20
And I think it's a must test.
11:23
And I do agree the races were good.
11:25
It's the eighteen minutes leading up to
11:28
the race was hard to watch,
11:30
especially for me at six a.m.
11:31
with very little sleep.
11:34
Oh yeah.
11:34
See, I didn't do that.
11:35
I caught up at eight o'clock when I
11:36
woke up after I took my kid to
11:38
school.
11:39
I took my kid to school,
11:40
got my coffee,
11:41
sat down with my dog and was like,
11:43
okay.
11:44
And from the beginning.
11:48
Uh,
11:48
Seamus says the event was hard to watch
11:50
because I've done a similar workout and I
11:51
know how bad it hurts.
11:54
That's what's exciting though.
11:56
Because otherwise they make it look too
11:58
easy and you're like, oh,
11:59
I could totally do that.
12:00
If you have done something similar and
12:02
you're like, Jesus,
12:03
this is freaking impressive.
12:05
I would be doing One Devil's Press every
12:07
twenty seconds right now.
12:09
If you've done something similar,
12:11
it's even cooler to watch.
12:13
Yeah, I've done that where I'm thinking,
12:14
okay,
12:15
where would I be at this point when
12:16
they're finishing?
12:17
Maybe round two, finishing round three,
12:19
going into four, but no.
12:20
I mean,
12:21
these guys are freaks and it's crazy to
12:23
watch them do that.
12:27
Can I ask you something real quick?
12:29
Sure.
12:30
They weren't obviously,
12:31
not the kettlebells,
12:32
but what were they swinging?
12:35
The cauldron thingies.
12:38
Yeah, that's what I was going to say.
12:40
We were talking about those.
12:41
I wanted to see those this weekend,
12:42
and I was so excited when this event
12:44
popped up.
12:44
I was like, they've got the fat hands.
12:47
How much weirder is that than the...
12:50
really weird to i don't know to swing
12:53
through your legs like that it just looks
12:55
like that like you would have to i
12:57
don't know open your knees wider or
12:59
something like i don't know i've never
13:02
used them to be fair but i don't
13:03
think they look that much wider than the
13:09
dumb two dumbbells would i like to me
13:11
they actually looked reasonably sized to
13:14
fit between like the women's legs
13:18
i hear them clang you could hear them
13:20
clang when they went between the legs but
13:23
the dumbbells are rubberized so you
13:24
wouldn't hear the clang right so i but
13:28
yeah i would think they'd be easier to
13:30
handle since they're more compact than a
13:31
dumbbell i almost would i would love to
13:33
try them because i think they would almost
13:36
be easier to handle as well uh yeah
13:40
i'm with you man hulk hands that's what
13:43
i call them
13:46
Hulk smash.
13:48
I did see a lot of bloody knuckles.
13:50
So I'm very interested in what that looks
13:52
like on the inside.
13:53
That must've.
13:56
Have you ever seen one in person?
14:00
Because I live in Columbus.
14:01
I've been to rogue a few times.
14:03
Uh, they have them there.
14:04
It's there's a,
14:06
like a dumbbell handle on the inside.
14:08
Yeah.
14:08
So you just reach into the hole and
14:10
you grab the dumbbell handle.
14:13
Um,
14:14
Well, here's someone that's used them.
14:17
Carolyn says they hurt the wrist on the
14:19
way down,
14:20
and some knuckles were bleeding for some
14:21
people.
14:25
We did those Devil's Press at the Legends,
14:27
the semifinals event,
14:29
and I was so bruised and bloody on
14:34
my wrist from where I would come down
14:36
every rep on that Devil's Press.
14:39
I personally feel like I would prefer
14:40
this.
14:42
I mean, I'd be curious.
14:45
carolyn's perspective between those two i
14:46
don't think carolyn was bruised from those
14:48
doubles press at legend uh like when you
14:53
smash them on the ground it digs into
14:54
your wrist as well but i think they
14:56
move up better than dumbbells well all the
14:59
way it's close to like it's like whenever
15:02
the weight is closer to the full point
15:05
it's just easier yeah that's why i would
15:08
think it'd be easier to handle than a
15:09
dumbbell yeah because a dumbbell if you
15:11
grab it too far on one end i
15:12
mean it's going to throw you off balance
15:14
these seem like they'd be more balanced
15:16
throughout.
15:19
But now I'm wondering how much space is
15:21
in between the actual handle and the
15:24
opposite end of that dumbbell.
15:27
So on the men's side,
15:29
your top five were James Sprague,
15:31
Dallin Pepper, Harry Lightfoot,
15:33
Jason Hopper, Chris Ibarra.
15:35
Chris Ibarra coming from Heat One and
15:37
Harry Lightfoot,
15:39
they have to be thankful that they both
15:41
were in that first heat to push each
15:43
other.
15:45
Because to come out at heat one in
15:47
this field and do well is pretty awesome.
15:49
Yeah,
15:52
both men and women had incredible
15:54
performances out of heat one.
15:57
On heat, on the women's side,
16:01
event one was Lucy Campbell won.
16:05
Sierra Meja took second.
16:07
She came out of the first heat.
16:09
Gabby Magawa took third.
16:10
Olivia Kerstetter fourth.
16:12
Emma Lawson fifth.
16:16
Sierra didn't even look tired until she
16:18
got to the finish line.
16:20
And then she collapsed like Jamie does.
16:22
Exactly like Jamie does.
16:26
Did they change the calories to nine for
16:29
women?
16:30
Yes.
16:33
Carolyn says they weren't allowed to jerk
16:34
them.
16:35
They had to be a muscle snatch.
16:36
Yeah,
16:36
they said that on the broadcast a lot.
16:37
Yeah.
16:39
And there was a couple no reps for
16:41
that.
16:42
You,
16:42
I feel like more was for the chest
16:44
on the ground in the burpee.
16:46
That was what I thought that Dallin's no
16:48
rep for.
16:48
I think that'd be one of the major
16:50
differences.
16:50
Dumbbells are easier to get to the ground
16:53
because they're spread out because these
16:54
are still round.
16:56
You'd have to position those things at a
16:57
certain spot to get your chest to the
16:59
ground, making it harder.
17:03
I think the big story of this event
17:04
though, was who finished last.
17:08
And that is Laura Horvath.
17:10
That was shocking.
17:12
I was surprised.
17:13
Really?
17:18
She's great.
17:18
She's a great handstand walker.
17:20
I don't think wall walks should be...
17:22
It's not a wall walk complex.
17:24
You're not doing a wall walk into a
17:25
handstand push-up.
17:26
Her shoulder...
17:31
This should have been a fine workout for
17:32
her.
17:33
She's incredible on a machine with skier.
17:35
Devil's Press should be no...
17:36
Her shoulder stamina is
17:38
good she's just there's something about a
17:40
press that like the strict handstand
17:43
push-up that messes her up yeah she
17:46
doesn't even like do bad in regular
17:48
handstand push-up exactly it's just strict
17:50
deficit correct i mean she wasn't on go
17:56
jay i was just gonna say but she
17:57
wasn't on the upper echelon of the viking
17:59
press that that was you know what i
18:01
mean like i know i
18:04
I was shocked,
18:05
more shocked at that than I was at
18:08
the other one, the first one.
18:10
See,
18:10
I anticipated her not being up at the
18:12
top of the Viking press because it's more
18:14
similar to that strict deficit handstand.
18:18
Now, you can kip.
18:20
You could dip and drive.
18:23
It's like a kipping handstand push-up,
18:24
though, and she's not terrible at that.
18:26
I didn't expect her to be where she
18:28
was, like as bad as she was.
18:30
Because behind the head, though,
18:32
like more like the deficit, I don't know.
18:38
I watch a lot of stuff,
18:39
and I hear a lot of things,
18:40
and so it was stuck in my head.
18:42
This is probably not going to be a
18:43
great one for her.
18:45
Yeah.
18:46
In general, like for me,
18:48
I was surprised at Tudor's placing,
18:51
Alex Kazan's placing,
18:53
and like Paige and Maddie.
18:56
Like those are people that I would think
18:57
have,
18:58
they usually have good shoulder stamina.
19:01
I don't know.
19:01
I don't know.
19:03
I don't even know what it was because
19:05
they should be good at devil's presses.
19:09
The Paige thing shocked me.
19:11
I think it was the early no rep.
19:13
And I'm telling you,
19:14
I think something like it was in that
19:16
round one.
19:17
She got a no rep.
19:18
To me, it looked like a rep.
19:21
And I think she just slowed everything
19:22
down.
19:23
And so it just was what it was.
19:24
Yeah, that's what I was going to ask.
19:25
Do you think they were going more or
19:28
going slower than they needed to just to
19:30
avoid those no reps,
19:31
especially in the wall walks?
19:35
I mean, the no rep took out Ricky,
19:38
took out Dallin,
19:40
because Dallin was in that race with
19:41
Sprague.
19:42
He got a couple no reps,
19:43
and then it wasn't a race anymore, really.
19:44
That's where he lost it.
19:46
You could see it after that no rep.
19:48
Yeah.
19:51
What was Ricky's?
19:51
Was it the feet weren't on the wall?
19:55
He started moving back before his feet or
19:58
both feet were on.
19:59
He started moving his hands back.
20:00
Okay.
20:01
Gotcha.
20:04
Yeah.
20:05
Which is the standard.
20:07
Yeah, yeah.
20:07
It's the standard.
20:10
I don't like when judges are...
20:14
When it's arbitrary.
20:16
And some judges are stricter than others.
20:18
And I like that they put the tape
20:20
line like it kind of was wherever.
20:22
And it was like,
20:23
just get your hands passed.
20:24
Yeah,
20:25
I think that was more confusing than
20:26
anything.
20:27
Yeah.
20:29
I'd say there was some...
20:31
To me, Lucy Campbell's wall walks,
20:33
her return was very questionable and she
20:36
got away with all of them.
20:37
And then when someone can start from the
20:39
beginning of kind of getting away with a
20:43
little bit more, it makes,
20:45
it makes round seven that much easier on
20:47
them.
20:48
When someone like Paige,
20:49
who did a great wall walk,
20:51
slowed everything down to be perfect.
20:53
You can't compete.
20:54
It's a completely different workout.
20:55
Right.
20:58
Carolyn got three no reps on the wall
20:59
walks.
21:01
She said not that it would make a
21:02
lot of difference.
21:03
She would have still been low.
21:06
But I think a no rep on a
21:07
wall walk affects you mentally way more
21:10
than other no reps.
21:11
Yeah.
21:15
But I think the thing with Paige,
21:17
and this is the tough thing about Rogue,
21:19
you don't know how much preparation people
21:21
have put in for this.
21:23
You know,
21:25
Jamie and I have been tagging Paige as
21:28
someone that's on the up and coming,
21:30
going to be something.
21:33
And to see her fail that bad on
21:34
the first two workouts,
21:36
which we haven't even talked about workout
21:38
two yet, just was stunning to me.
21:42
Yeah,
21:43
but I'd like to ask Carolyn how she
21:45
prepares differently between something
21:48
like the Games and for something like
21:50
Rogue that's way heavier.
21:53
Like,
21:54
is there something she focuses on more,
21:55
you know,
21:56
on the heavy side or is it more
21:58
cardio or how would she prepare
22:00
differently for both?
22:01
She'll tell you she prepares the same year
22:03
round and just is ready to compete at
22:04
any given time.
22:05
I mean,
22:07
how much lead time really did she have?
22:08
If you aren't,
22:09
you aren't doing a eight week strength
22:11
cycle before that, like you,
22:14
it is for rogue.
22:15
It is what it is.
22:15
Like it comes out heavy.
22:18
like Danielle Brandon with squat,
22:19
like you just, you just,
22:20
you don't do it.
22:21
Or, I mean, you save yourself.
22:24
It is what it is.
22:26
Yeah.
22:26
I was curious about that too.
22:29
But even like Amy Kringle,
22:31
I thought would have done better in that
22:32
workout, but she went games, WFP.
22:40
And then if you watch her on social,
22:42
she went total vacation mode,
22:44
need to get the body some rest.
22:46
So how much has she been able to
22:48
even ramp it back up?
22:51
So it's really hard to pick on this
22:53
event because of all that, I think.
22:57
I was going to ask you that, too.
22:58
Don't all the champs usually take a month
23:00
and a half off after the games?
23:04
That's the thing, right?
23:05
And then Rogue is right there, so...
23:08
I think that's the OG mentality.
23:10
But with all this stuff now,
23:13
you have to pick and choose when you
23:14
take that time off.
23:16
What is most important?
23:17
Yeah.
23:19
And I think it's evolving.
23:21
Like people are still trying to figure
23:22
that out.
23:25
Well,
23:25
you got all this new young blood in
23:26
there too.
23:27
They have the,
23:28
they have the brand new knees and the
23:29
brand new hips and the brand new,
23:31
everything's still bendy and flexy.
23:33
So they can do all this stuff.
23:34
If you're twenty nine, thirty,
23:36
something like that, then you might.
23:37
Yeah.
23:39
Need that month and a half.
23:43
Meg says,
23:44
I think Amy is just there for the
23:45
experience.
23:45
That's what it sounds like when she was
23:47
talking to Pedro.
23:48
That's how she always talks.
23:49
Yeah.
23:49
She's never going to be like, I mean,
23:51
I'm in great shape and I'm going to
23:53
win this thing.
23:53
You're not going to hear that from her.
23:55
She is so humble when you talk to
23:57
her.
23:58
I mean,
23:58
I've talked to her back in the warm-up
24:00
area at the games even,
24:02
and she's super humble the whole time.
24:07
None of these athletes are taking that
24:09
much time off.
24:12
And to answer your question, Joseph,
24:13
I don't prepare too much different.
24:15
I just knew squatting is always there.
24:20
I mean, half of them had
24:22
WFP.
24:23
A few of them did.
24:26
There's been stuff that they've been
24:27
doing.
24:28
There's just no way to take time off.
24:33
Was that crash?
24:34
He did crash.
24:36
Yeah.
24:39
We got Coach Tristan in the house.
24:41
Yeah,
24:41
you just can't take that much time off
24:42
anymore.
24:44
I think these guys are so fit that
24:50
I would say a week wouldn't hurt.
24:53
Yeah.
24:55
But when you think OG like Matt Frazier
24:57
taking a couple months off,
25:00
that doesn't happen anymore.
25:06
Yeah, that's a long time.
25:07
So event two,
25:08
my favorite event to watch because the one
25:11
thing I am actually good at is back
25:12
squatting.
25:14
So I like to watch that.
25:18
I really, really like this event a lot.
25:22
One,
25:22
our very own Carolyn Prevost crushed this
25:24
one.
25:25
And it was fun to watch that.
25:27
The other thing is,
25:29
I liked how some people were ripping them
25:31
apart in the first couple sets.
25:34
And then you just saw it really slow.
25:37
And then it became strategy, methodical.
25:42
And I like the element of the sandbags
25:43
up the hill tapering up and coming back
25:46
down.
25:51
any other thoughts other than my giddiness
25:56
i hated it i knew you would really
26:00
she likes everything i hate and i hate
26:02
everything i spell it i don't know i
26:04
don't think the hill mattered i like you
26:07
could have just done a you could have
26:08
done a one right back back squat probably
26:10
would have been about the exact same you
26:12
could have done the one has been it's
26:14
fun to watch
26:18
there's no, there's nothing here.
26:21
Like you could have made this a hundred
26:22
pounds lighter and it still probably would
26:24
have been the same result.
26:27
And that's where I'm like, to me,
26:29
I feel like it was too heavy.
26:30
The fact that you have two women not
26:31
even finishing the workout,
26:32
all the men finish is probably closer to
26:34
accurate for them.
26:35
But like some for me,
26:38
sometimes I just think things don't need
26:39
to be that heavy and you're still going
26:41
to get the same winner.
26:42
Colton was going to win no matter what.
26:46
It did differentiate.
26:48
It's not just about the winner.
26:49
You say this yourself all the time.
26:51
We always talk about the top three.
26:54
There were differentiations on down that
26:57
list because of this event.
27:00
Yeah,
27:00
Colton's going to win every one of them,
27:02
but depending on how you do it,
27:04
maybe Dallin doesn't come in fourth.
27:06
Maybe he comes in eighth.
27:09
I can say that I wasn't expecting Benny
27:10
Barnes to finish that high.
27:15
Bailey Martin?
27:15
He's an incredible squatter.
27:16
I thought maybe top five,
27:17
but to finish where he did,
27:19
that was pretty cool.
27:20
Fair.
27:24
And hey, you got to run the race,
27:25
right?
27:27
You got to do the event.
27:28
You got to run the race.
27:29
I mean,
27:29
the Giants got three wins this year and
27:31
they shouldn't.
27:33
You have to run the race.
27:36
And there were so many close races on
27:37
this where people were like diving over
27:39
the line.
27:41
So that last run did matter.
27:44
couple yeah um what happened is daniel
27:50
brandon hurt or is there like no minimum
27:53
he just sucks at squatting not worth it
27:56
she was gonna be could she have beat
28:00
page who knows probably not like or ariel
28:04
no like she probably was gonna be last
28:06
no matter what so why why put the
28:08
strain on your back
28:11
okay what was her starting weight two
28:13
twenty five two thirty five i think it
28:15
was two twenty five i think i don't
28:18
know i think her max at the games
28:19
was what two two forty five she could
28:23
do it she could do it she probably
28:25
could have gotten through the first round
28:26
i don't think she would have liked the
28:27
round of eight i don't even know that
28:30
she would even have been able to do
28:31
it so like again why do ten reps
28:33
of straining
28:35
Plus, if you fail that rep,
28:36
you have to strip that bar and put
28:38
it back yourself.
28:39
So, I mean,
28:39
that right there is a mind game too.
28:42
Do you think she has PTSD from having
28:44
to drop the bar in the past at
28:45
Rogue and having to re-rack the bar?
28:49
Like,
28:49
she's been that one person on the floor
28:51
that couldn't get the squat up and then
28:54
is changing the weights off,
28:56
taking the weights off,
28:57
getting it re-racked,
28:58
putting them back on, only to fail again.
29:01
And she's like, F it,
29:04
I'm not even going to try.
29:08
possible wow i don't know again this is
29:15
another one where i was surprised with
29:17
page because page it usually is really
29:19
good at stuff like this that isn't that
29:22
heavy for her i don't know i mean
29:25
i know she was coming back last year
29:27
but that workout killed her last year and
29:31
that was it was like heavier
29:33
Well,
29:33
Colton said today that the one they did
29:36
last year was the hardest workout he's
29:38
ever done in his life.
29:39
Yeah, right.
29:41
So, yeah,
29:41
that may have killed her last year,
29:42
but I would have expected her to do
29:44
okay on this.
29:45
I agree.
29:47
I was a little surprised with her.
29:52
I was a little surprised with Tudor and
29:56
Jason Hopper.
29:57
I thought maybe he was a little stronger
29:59
at squatting,
30:00
but
30:01
freaking lucy james james incredible
30:05
incredible yeah uh ariel's push on that
30:10
last that was fantastic that is the
30:12
complete counter to danielle ariel didn't
30:17
need to push that up and she did
30:20
it anyway yeah just because that's the
30:22
type of person she is and so i
30:25
think there's no work requirement ever for
30:28
anything wow
30:33
I mean, it gives her,
30:35
not that it would have helped,
30:36
but it gives her kind of an unfair
30:37
advantage where you're not putting that
30:38
strength on your back from doing the
30:39
squats.
30:40
So I think you should have to at
30:42
least attempt to finish that first round.
30:47
Yeah.
30:48
That's my point.
30:49
That's wild.
30:49
How many reps were in that workout that
30:51
she didn't do any of?
30:52
It wasn't many.
30:54
I think it was an eight, six, four,
30:55
two rep scheme.
30:58
But the weights went up.
31:00
How heavy?
31:01
Yeah.
31:03
Wayne says,
31:04
I was surprised Danny didn't finish higher
31:05
on the squat workout.
31:06
I kind of was too.
31:08
But as a person with larger legs,
31:11
like the blood gets trapped in your legs
31:14
when you're doing that many reps.
31:17
And then for Danny,
31:18
that run was significant.
31:20
Yeah.
31:22
Right.
31:23
Because all that blood builds up in the
31:24
legs and then she has to try to
31:26
run up that hill.
31:28
I would have been laying dead on the
31:30
hill.
31:37
Carolyn's going to be sore in her legs
31:39
from that workout for sure.
31:46
Yeah,
31:46
we're going to talk about that in a
31:47
second, Cousin.
31:49
So anyway, top five men on this workout.
31:52
Colton Mertens, Bailey Martin, Jay Crouch.
31:56
He looks really good.
32:00
Jay looks really, really good.
32:03
Dallin Pepper, fourth.
32:04
James Sprague, fifth.
32:07
On the women's side, I went to strongman.
32:11
On the women's side, Laura Horvat won,
32:14
so she goes from last to first.
32:18
That's typical for her.
32:20
Yeah, that's what she does in this.
32:23
And then she'll win every workout on
32:24
Sunday.
32:25
Yes.
32:26
Can I just say, though,
32:29
how much balls it takes in your
32:31
post-interview on the one you won after
32:34
you just finished last going,
32:36
I'm just here to eat.
32:37
I'm just here to eat.
32:39
Dude,
32:40
the cojones on her to come in that
32:43
arrogant after finishing last.
32:45
Kudos to her.
32:46
I would say that after that tells me
32:49
that she kind of saved herself in that
32:50
first one.
32:51
She probably knew she wasn't going to do
32:52
as well or win.
32:54
So she probably didn't go as fast as
32:57
she could have.
32:59
And she thought, well,
33:00
if I take last place, that's okay,
33:01
I'll come back.
33:02
Some of those post interviews were
33:04
amazing.
33:04
When Kiki asked Colton about his little
33:07
legs being duck legs,
33:10
she really did say that.
33:11
I was dying.
33:13
Dude, I couldn't.
33:13
I was laughing so hard.
33:14
I was like,
33:15
did you just call his legs little duck
33:17
leg flipper?
33:18
Like, what did you just say?
33:20
It's so great.
33:25
I don't like the term washed.
33:26
I hate to say people are washed.
33:29
Kiki's washed.
33:31
Can we get a new sideline reporter,
33:32
please?
33:33
Well, has she ever done this before?
33:36
Yes.
33:37
Has she?
33:38
She's done it for Rogue every year.
33:39
Yeah.
33:41
Maybe it's just this year that that's bad.
33:46
She used to be really good at it.
33:48
I...
33:50
I wanted Colton to say something wild,
33:52
man.
33:52
I wanted him to be like, and he,
33:55
but he was cool.
33:55
He was jealous.
33:56
It was so funny.
33:58
When she said it,
33:59
if she would have said you're like a
34:01
duck, that's like calm on top.
34:04
And, but when she said those little legs,
34:07
like that's the part that like sent it
34:09
over the edge.
34:14
Oh, yeah.
34:15
Anyway, second was Kyra Milligan,
34:18
who crushed it.
34:19
Lucy Campbell,
34:21
who was surprisingly great at this.
34:24
Gabby Magawa took fourth,
34:26
and Alex Kazan took fifth.
34:27
Yeah, those are two more surprises.
34:31
Gabby Magawa and Alex Kazan.
34:33
Gabby, really?
34:34
I didn't think she was a surprise.
34:39
I picked Alex top five for this, probably.
34:43
Gabby,
34:44
I just wanted to see her be able
34:45
to do things with the Achilles.
34:50
That's it.
34:51
That's got to be in the back of
34:52
her head,
34:53
going up that hill with her sandbags.
34:57
Yeah.
34:58
Probably the way down, even.
35:02
Yeah.
35:02
Yeah.
35:03
Cause it like,
35:04
I've had the opportunity to go up that
35:05
hill.
35:06
It is steep.
35:08
The TV does not do it justice.
35:11
Like it is a sharp incline.
35:15
I tell the story.
35:16
We got a group picture when I was
35:18
volunteering in, in Austin.
35:22
And when we sat down,
35:23
we just slid down the wall,
35:25
the slid down the hill.
35:27
Cause it's so steep.
35:28
You can't even stop yourself.
35:32
That's why it was great when Chandler slid
35:34
and did the.
35:34
Yeah,
35:35
that's that one fan had that picture of
35:37
Chandler sliding down the hill and like,
35:39
oh, okay.
35:44
I actually,
35:45
I have really enjoyed Peter's post
35:47
interviews.
35:49
His with the straw men are good.
35:50
Yeah.
35:53
So I've met Peter in person.
35:55
He is a very tall dude.
35:58
Like I'm five, eleven.
35:59
He's taller than me.
36:01
And those strong men are making him look
36:03
itty-bitty.
36:07
He's looking itty-bitty regardless.
36:10
Like,
36:10
he is doing phenomenal with his diet,
36:14
exercise.
36:14
He's looking good.
36:16
He is.
36:17
Really good.
36:19
I really enjoy his content on that, too.
36:20
Mm-hmm.
36:22
All right, so the last one, the soup.
36:25
Before we get to the Viking press,
36:28
I love that CrossFitters are doing
36:29
strongman,
36:30
but watching the strongman do the deadlift
36:33
ladder was really hard for me to watch.
36:39
Because in CrossFit,
36:40
when you see a ladder, it's move, move,
36:43
move.
36:43
Not get to the bar,
36:45
put your grips around the bar,
36:48
then grip it, then lift.
36:50
Like, come on.
36:53
That was bad.
36:57
All right.
36:57
So we have the Viking press.
37:02
It was this apparatus that rogue has built
37:07
where it forces you to push the weight
37:10
kind of behind your head.
37:12
You had one minute to do as many
37:13
as you could.
37:15
Thoughts on this.
37:20
I love these ones.
37:21
Yeah.
37:23
Yeah.
37:23
I mean, it's cool to see them do,
37:25
I like that the, you know,
37:26
it was out there for the strong men
37:28
and women.
37:28
And then you could see the CrossFitters
37:31
take it on.
37:32
Of course, it's a little bit lighter.
37:34
I mean,
37:34
even the men weren't even doing what the
37:35
women did.
37:36
That was kind of cool though.
37:37
Like to see the, you know,
37:39
you're starting,
37:40
you're like first guy can't even get as
37:42
many reps as the woman got with more
37:44
weight.
37:45
Like, I mean, it,
37:47
it got better from there, but yeah,
37:49
it's cool.
37:50
See him try something different.
37:52
That's the cool thing about Rogue, though,
37:53
right?
37:54
They get some of these unique things.
37:55
It was way better than a one rep
37:57
max.
37:58
For sure.
37:59
Yeah.
38:00
Plus,
38:00
I thought it was cool that they had
38:01
the men and women going at the same
38:02
time because you don't often see that at
38:04
all.
38:04
See, I did not like that at all.
38:07
Really?
38:08
I would have rather two women be going
38:09
head to head and get through.
38:11
Like, the men have been first all day.
38:15
And now you're going to pull the women
38:16
up to start earlier from what they just
38:18
finished.
38:18
Like, I'd just rather two men go.
38:20
They're racing.
38:22
I can, like, see.
38:24
I was just kind of watching the women.
38:25
Didn't even really, like,
38:26
focus on the men.
38:28
I would have rather they kept it with
38:29
their same gender and I could have.
38:32
Well,
38:32
the problem is it's two different
38:33
machines.
38:34
I know.
38:37
And they don't have four of them.
38:38
They have one of each.
38:40
And so it had to kind of be
38:43
that way.
38:44
But what my favorite part of it is,
38:47
it's really that you have to adapt.
38:52
This isn't a machine that you can go
38:53
to somebody's garage or some weird
38:56
affiliate and find.
38:58
There's only two of them in existence.
39:00
One for women and one for men.
39:02
And they weren't allowed to touch it
39:04
loaded until they went out on the floor.
39:07
Wow.
39:07
Oh, shit.
39:11
So last night they were allowed to touch
39:12
it unloaded.
39:14
just to kind of get positioning,
39:17
but they were not allowed to try it
39:19
loaded until they actually took the floor.
39:22
And to me,
39:23
we're missing some of that in modern
39:28
competitions.
39:30
So I think that that is a cool
39:32
aspect to this that we've been missing.
39:35
I'm trying to think of how you would
39:36
jimmy rig a machine like that or a
39:38
setup similar to that in a gym with
39:40
two barbells maybe.
39:43
Colton said,
39:44
didn't Colton say something like they
39:45
tried,
39:46
they tried something similar to it to kind
39:48
of recreate it or whatever,
39:50
but he was just like,
39:51
we're not going to get to see it
39:52
till we get on the floor.
39:54
So I think they all tried to Jerry
39:57
rig something, but.
40:01
But you're never going to make it exactly
40:04
the same.
40:05
And so there is an adaptation to it,
40:06
even with all of that.
40:11
Carolyn, in fact, Inez, strong man, woman,
40:14
got twenty three reps at two twenty five,
40:17
which is eighth or ninth on the men's
40:18
side and twenty pounds heavier.
40:28
So anyway, yeah, it's I really enjoyed it.
40:30
I really.
40:32
But again,
40:32
I was really surprised at some of the
40:35
performances on this.
40:37
But mostly to the negative side,
40:41
I would have bet dollars to donuts that
40:46
Ariel would have got more than twelve.
40:48
Yeah.
40:49
Like I wrote before the event started,
40:51
I was like, this is my expectations.
40:53
My top three men, top three women,
40:55
bottom three men, bottom three women.
40:56
I wrote that out and people went and
40:58
I was like, well, shit.
41:05
Where do you have Adler?
41:07
Not there.
41:08
Yeah, he's the one that I was surprised.
41:10
I thought he would be in the top
41:11
three easily.
41:12
Right, at least top five for Adler, right?
41:14
Yeah.
41:14
He's clean and jerky, and he's incredible.
41:16
I realize he gets a jerk,
41:18
but his shoulder endurance should be,
41:22
and he's strong.
41:23
I thought he'd be way higher than he
41:25
was.
41:25
And one of his strengths is barbell
41:27
cycling.
41:27
Right.
41:28
However,
41:29
one of his weaknesses is adaptation.
41:32
You're right.
41:33
That's true.
41:37
And so that that's kind of the cool
41:39
thing is I,
41:42
I just love that aspect of it.
41:44
Right.
41:44
I got to go.
41:47
Okay, cool.
41:48
Good luck.
41:49
Drive safe.
41:51
See you tomorrow.
41:56
Yeah, that was wild.
41:56
All right.
42:01
Now I don't feel like I'm on a
42:02
team's meeting anymore.
42:07
And then because of Paige's first two
42:10
performances,
42:12
I didn't see her crushing it like she
42:13
did.
42:14
And then she did.
42:16
Yeah.
42:22
I knew Dani would be good.
42:25
I didn't know she was going to be
42:26
a jackhammer.
42:26
Dude.
42:28
Yeah,
42:29
I kind of had a feeling she was
42:30
going to win that event.
42:30
I knew she was going to win it.
42:34
I had her and Colton winning that event.
42:37
Jeez, man.
42:38
She was, that was insane.
42:43
Uh,
42:44
Carolyn says Jamie leaving so fast was
42:45
Roman.
42:46
Like, but I mean, aren't,
42:51
aren't those events?
42:53
I mean, like even Guy,
42:55
he's going to have his event where he's
42:57
going to blow everybody out of the water.
42:59
That was Spiegel's event to win.
43:03
So is it that much of a surprise
43:05
that she did that?
43:06
Well,
43:07
Or was it just the fact that how
43:08
well she did was a surprise?
43:12
It's not a surprise she won.
43:13
Right.
43:14
I'm with you.
43:16
But when she started so fast,
43:20
it looked like she was doing an empty
43:22
barbell at the local gym.
43:24
Yeah,
43:26
and I think she took about four or
43:27
five breaks in between, too.
43:31
Yeah, well, and it was strategic.
43:34
Right.
43:34
She stopped before she hit failure.
43:37
so that she could go again.
43:40
Colton took the exact opposite.
43:41
He just went until he couldn't anymore.
43:45
Just went again and went again.
43:48
But you saw him kind of slow up.
43:50
Danny never really slowed up until the
43:52
last ten seconds.
43:55
Well, it was the minute mark.
43:57
If they still are the rep mark,
43:59
if they still looked good after reps,
44:02
you knew that they were going to go
44:03
challenge for a top spot,
44:04
but it just started their second,
44:06
their second set.
44:08
And it just looked like,
44:10
then you just knew,
44:11
you just knew like when hopper went,
44:12
it was just like, okay, you just know,
44:14
like when James went, okay, well,
44:18
that's it.
44:19
That's all they got.
44:20
Plus it was how fast they got to
44:22
those reps.
44:23
Yeah.
44:26
um why is everybody talking smack to me
44:29
about my emma tall pick she looks all
44:32
right what is she finishing that seventh
44:36
eighth i haven't i don't have that pulled
44:39
up yet joseph why why are you doing
44:41
this to me you're not the producer of
44:44
this show well i mean she's another one
44:49
that i thought would finish higher she
44:51
finished six yeah i i figured she'd be
44:54
top three maybe
44:57
No, she's six overall.
44:58
She took fifth in that event.
45:00
Okay.
45:03
So that's about right.
45:04
So Danny one, Alex Kazan took second,
45:06
Danny one by four reps.
45:11
Well, I mean,
45:12
if you look at them side by side,
45:14
you would think that she'd have a way
45:17
more lead,
45:17
a way higher lead than just four reps.
45:20
Gazan looked fast, though, too.
45:23
My photographer just put up a reel of
45:24
Gazan's effort on Instagram,
45:27
and I was watching it.
45:28
Gazan was going pretty quick, too,
45:30
at the start.
45:32
I don't think she took the strategic rest
45:36
that Danny did,
45:37
and I think that's what got her in
45:39
the end.
45:45
um was third tie she actually tied gazan
45:48
but kazan got one more rep at the
45:50
thirty rep or thirty second mark
45:54
kerstetter was fourth emma tall fifth all
45:59
right your girl's doing good yeah amazon
46:03
amazon sixth overall i picked her to win
46:07
I just, she started slow at WFP too.
46:09
And then came on like a house on
46:12
fire and whooped everybody by the end.
46:15
I just can't unsee what I saw there.
46:17
All right.
46:24
Um, and that was against Laura and Amy.
46:27
Like there was good competition there that
46:28
she beat on the men's side.
46:33
Uh,
46:33
Colton gets his second win in a row.
46:37
Ricky Gerard took second.
46:39
They actually tied,
46:41
but Colton got one more rep at the
46:42
thirty-second mark.
46:45
Um,
46:45
tutor got one less at twenty-nine Dallin
46:49
pepper,
46:50
fourth at twenty-eight and Guy to fifth at
46:53
twenty-six.
46:57
Dallin pepper just wants to beat Sprague.
46:59
You can just see it on him so
47:00
badly.
47:05
Sometimes that's a bad thing,
47:07
but hopefully he gets over that.
47:10
I think Dallin just needs to get a
47:11
win against this competition.
47:13
Just one to kind of get over that
47:15
mental hurdle.
47:20
So Wayne was asking,
47:21
what's the tiebreaker that gave Colton the
47:23
win?
47:24
Colton got twenty one reps at thirty
47:26
seconds and Ricky had twenty.
47:29
OK.
47:35
But they both finished with thirty reps.
47:40
That's insane.
47:41
That's one every two seconds.
47:46
And Danny was faster than that.
47:47
Yeah.
47:52
I don't know if you saw that quick
47:53
math there.
47:56
I was like Rain Man there for a
47:58
minute.
47:58
That's what a producer does.
48:01
Thanks a lot, G.
48:07
So overall leaderboard,
48:09
let's hit that real quick.
48:12
Sure.
48:13
There we go.
48:14
So currently Colton is in first place.
48:16
Dallin is in second only by five points.
48:20
Yeah, the men's race is tight.
48:21
Here we go.
48:22
James Sprague is in third,
48:24
thirty points behind Dallin.
48:26
Jay Crouch is in fourth,
48:28
fifteen points behind James.
48:31
And Tudor is in fifth,
48:34
ten points behind Jay.
48:36
Oh, let's go, Meg.
48:39
Let's go.
48:39
So I'd get Tudor to podium this weekend.
48:43
It's so hard.
48:44
You like all those guys.
48:45
You want them all to do well.
48:46
But, you know,
48:47
obviously we're Iron Hog fans.
48:50
But I'd love to see Tudor on a
48:52
podium.
48:53
That'd be cool.
48:56
And then on the women's side,
48:57
Gabby Magawa sits in first place with a
49:00
thirty-point lead over Lucy Campbell.
49:04
Alex Kazan is ten points behind in third.
49:07
Kyra Milligan is five points behind in
49:09
fourth.
49:11
And Olivia Kerstetter is tied with Kyra.
49:18
That is tight.
49:20
Forty-five points from first to fifth on
49:22
the women's side.
49:26
Oh, it's going to be fun.
49:26
It's going to be fun.
49:28
It's a tight race the entire weekend.
49:31
So let me ask you this.
49:33
I was thinking about this today as I
49:34
was watching.
49:35
You guys have been interviewing a ton of
49:37
people lately, right?
49:39
So you get to know them on a
49:41
different level than just being a
49:42
spectator of the sport.
49:45
I used to do that all the time.
49:46
I've gotten to know a lot of these
49:47
athletes over the years.
49:50
I don't really know who my favorites are
49:52
until the competition starts.
49:54
And then I just naturally find myself
49:56
rooting for one of them or a couple
50:00
of them.
50:01
how does that work for you?
50:02
Cause like,
50:05
of course I'm going to root for Carolyn.
50:07
Yeah.
50:08
Like, cause she's, she's my girl, right?
50:11
Right.
50:12
I'm going to root for Carolyn.
50:13
But when everybody else,
50:14
I'm friends with Ariel and Emily and I've
50:18
met Amy and I've like all these people.
50:21
And then I just naturally like one or
50:23
two of them bubble up and that's who
50:25
I'm going to root for that weekend.
50:28
I don't think I do.
50:29
I think I just naturally will root for
50:31
them on the television.
50:32
Like who,
50:32
who's ever in the race at the time.
50:35
Like I was rooted.
50:36
I was,
50:36
we were screaming at the TV for Kyra.
50:38
We're like, come on girl, come on.
50:40
Don't lose your spot.
50:40
Like, come on.
50:41
You know what I mean?
50:42
And just whoever's on the screen at the
50:44
time, I think is,
50:45
I don't know if we,
50:49
I think we just root for whoever's in
50:51
that race.
50:51
We were rooting for Tudor, too.
50:53
We were like, come on, dude.
50:54
In the Viking event,
50:57
we were pumped for him.
50:58
We were so stoked for him.
51:00
I don't know if there's just a favorite
51:02
or you just get excited to see somebody
51:04
that you've had a chat with and had
51:06
some fun with, and you're like, oh,
51:07
come on, dude.
51:08
You got this.
51:08
Let's go.
51:08
Yeah,
51:10
I think you try and cheer as hard
51:11
as you can for everybody,
51:13
but there's always that one you cheer just
51:14
a little bit more for.
51:17
Yeah,
51:17
the funny thing for me is I didn't
51:19
know who that was going to be until
51:20
I was watching today,
51:21
and a couple of them have bubbled up.
51:24
Like Tudor,
51:25
I've been cheering for for a long time,
51:28
and I think he's just on this rise
51:30
this year,
51:32
and the confidence he got at SoCal from
51:34
leading that team,
51:37
I just want to see it pay off.
51:40
So I'm rooting for Tudor just a little
51:42
bit more this weekend.
51:47
And I want to see Dallin do well
51:48
too.
51:48
I want him to not be the one
51:50
guy on the podcast that doesn't have a
51:52
championship.
51:58
Yeah.
52:03
The Viking hat should have been mandatory
52:05
for everyone.
52:06
That was cool.
52:07
Yeah.
52:09
I'm kind of glad when it was just
52:11
Jennifer because she's from Scotland and
52:15
And she had it with the Scottish flag
52:17
on it.
52:19
So that's like the hometown kind of thing.
52:23
And she got huge cheers.
52:26
That's the thing.
52:27
I've never spoken to Harry Lightfoot,
52:28
but I was rooting for him like crazy.
52:31
Like in that first race.
52:33
Like I love Harry Lightfoot.
52:34
He's a character.
52:35
I love watching him compete.
52:38
I love how he came out for the
52:40
Viking press looking like an ex-gamer.
52:41
Yep.
52:47
He had like the knit to con and,
52:51
and then that,
52:52
that real that rogue did with him with
52:54
the extra huge mic.
52:55
Oh yeah.
52:57
Those are good.
52:58
They are.
53:01
They're really good.
53:02
Uh,
53:03
train is just rooting for great moments.
53:07
Yeah.
53:07
I mean,
53:07
the races and the first event were good.
53:10
And Meg is just rooting for complete
53:12
darkness.
53:14
Yeah.
53:14
That's exactly what she's rooting for.
53:15
Mm-hmm.
53:18
uh shout out to last year's rookies who
53:20
are showing you can be better at rogue
53:22
the second time around do you think that
53:25
plays a factor like this is amy's first
53:28
rogue even though she's done the games and
53:31
waterpalooza and all the other stuff this
53:34
is her first rogue do you think that
53:36
makes a difference is there any other
53:41
competition that's as heavy as rogue
53:44
Because maybe that going through a whole
53:46
competition weekend like this where it is
53:48
this heavy all weekend long, it might be.
53:53
Play it back there.
53:55
Or is there more pressure on her now
53:56
that she won the games coming into this
53:58
event?
54:01
I think it's all that.
54:04
Yeah,
54:04
I would think for sure there's more
54:05
pressure now that she's won the games.
54:10
Yeah,
54:10
but do you really think anybody's
54:11
expecting her to go on this tear of
54:13
winning like four in a row?
54:15
I don't think that expectation.
54:17
Well, no, I mean,
54:17
not necessarily winning Rogue,
54:19
but finishing on the podium, at least.
54:24
I mean, just the pressure, you know,
54:26
putting on herself is a podium, at least.
54:30
I think there is an expectation of her
54:32
that is way, way beyond that.
54:35
We haven't talked about other...
54:38
There's only been Tia and Laura forever.
54:41
And then Amy comes into the games this
54:43
year and she wins by over a hundred
54:45
points.
54:47
She didn't even have to do the last
54:48
event.
54:51
And then everybody's like, ooh,
54:53
now we just want to see Tia versus
54:54
Amy.
54:55
Anytime that you start getting mentioned
54:57
with someone who can battle with Tia,
55:00
the expectations are through the roof.
55:06
I don't know.
55:08
Maybe I just haven't listened to it to
55:10
enough podcast, but I, I don't know.
55:12
I just don't think anybody else the way
55:13
that I think of Tia.
55:15
So I don't put any expectation like that
55:17
on anybody else.
55:18
Like I, if Tia comes back again,
55:22
I'd be like, Oh,
55:22
you got to win girl.
55:23
You got to win your Tia.
55:25
But like,
55:25
I don't put that on anybody on anybody
55:28
else.
55:30
I think there's a probably fifty percent
55:35
share of the CrossFit world who don't want
55:38
to see Tia win again.
55:39
They're just tired of it.
55:41
And so they're looking for that one hope
55:44
to take her down.
55:48
Now, greatness is greatness, man.
55:49
You want to watch greatness all the time.
55:52
I want her to lose.
55:54
I like her, but eight's enough.
55:56
I mean,
55:56
they even made a TV show about that.
55:58
Eight is enough.
56:01
No, it's not.
56:02
No, I mean, if you can win,
56:04
if she keeps winning,
56:05
you have to beat her.
56:08
That's amazing.
56:09
And I want her to beat her.
56:11
I don't want it to be just handed
56:13
to Amy.
56:15
I would love to see her come up
56:19
and go toe-to-toe with Tia and beat her.
56:22
But then if she beats her at number
56:24
nine or number ten or something like that,
56:26
then you're going to be like, oh, well,
56:27
she didn't beat her in her prime.
56:29
Like she didn't beat like two thousand
56:33
eighteen tier nine, whatever year.
56:35
You're always going to have jackasses out
56:37
there that say things like that.
56:40
But I'm telling like I've heard Justin
56:42
Madera say that he wanted to beat Matt
56:44
like the legitimacy of winning the crown
56:48
as opposed to inheriting it.
56:50
It's just a big deal.
56:51
Yeah, of course.
56:53
You wanted to beat Michael Jordan.
56:54
You didn't want him to retire.
56:58
So, great example.
57:00
Akeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets won
57:02
the two years that Michael Jordan took
57:04
off.
57:04
Right.
57:05
Michael comes back and he wins the title
57:07
back.
57:08
Don't you think Akeem Olajuwon would have
57:10
given anything to beat Jordan once?
57:14
Of course.
57:14
For sure.
57:16
Yeah,
57:17
but then you always have that question.
57:18
Would they have won if Jordan was still
57:20
playing for those two years?
57:22
That that question is out there.
57:24
They don't get the notoriety of being a
57:27
repeat champion because they didn't beat
57:29
Jordan.
57:31
I forgot about that completely.
57:32
So let's say Tia comes back next year
57:35
and she wins again.
57:37
Is Amy going to get the same questions
57:39
that Laura got when she won?
57:44
No.
57:47
You don't think so?
57:48
You're saying would Amy get the question?
57:50
Would she have wanted Tia was here?
57:52
Same way Laura got.
57:55
I think those questions are out there,
57:56
but people like Amy more than they like
57:59
Laura,
57:59
so they're not as hard on her about
58:01
it.
58:01
That's her point.
58:08
People hate Laura.
58:11
And that's what's awesome about Laura.
58:14
See, like,
58:15
I love the fact that she is so
58:17
polarizing that nobody is just meh about
58:20
Laura.
58:21
You either hate her or you love her.
58:23
There's no in between.
58:24
And I'm on one end.
58:29
Right.
58:30
And that's what's awesome about it.
58:32
Because she evokes emotion in people.
58:38
Like I just said,
58:39
the balls to come out after finishing dead
58:41
last, winning an event that goes,
58:44
I'm just here to eat.
58:45
I'm just like, okay, talk your game, man.
58:48
She is savage on a microphone.
58:52
Those post interviews all the time are
58:55
just savage.
58:56
She does not care, man.
58:59
She's fun to listen to.
59:03
Here's Pool Boy saying Laura ran away.
59:07
That's the polarizing stuff that Laura
59:09
brings to the table.
59:11
Nobody else in this space does that.
59:13
Yeah, I get that.
59:26
Hate is a strong word, highly despised,
59:28
maybe.
59:29
Tomato, tomato.
59:30
No, hate works.
59:32
Hate works.
59:32
Despise is the same thing, bags.
59:37
So anyway, thank you guys.
59:42
Thank you guys for doing this.
59:43
I really appreciate it.
59:45
No worries.
59:45
It was a good start to the weekend.
59:48
Yeah.
59:49
Yeah.
59:51
We'll be back tomorrow with a recap.
59:53
I don't know who's going to be on
59:54
the show.
59:56
I got to figure out Jamie's schedule.
59:57
I know she's taking your parents to the
1:00:00
airport right now,
1:00:02
but I think she's free tomorrow.
1:00:03
There you go.
1:00:05
I have a show scheduled,
1:00:07
but I don't know if that time is
1:00:08
going to be what it is.
1:00:11
But you know what you should do tonight?
1:00:14
Take some thirdsy.
1:00:15
Use code Jazzy at checkout.
1:00:18
Get a good night's sleep.
1:00:27
Get a good night's sleep so you can
1:00:28
get up early in the morning to watch
1:00:30
Rogue.
1:00:32
Or sleep in like G,
1:00:33
get a cup of coffee,
1:00:34
sit down on the couch, rewind it,
1:00:36
and start it again.
1:00:38
So glad YouTube has that replay.
1:00:40
Yeah.
1:00:42
You know, the Rogue website has replay,
1:00:44
too.
1:00:44
Like, you can rewind it.
1:00:45
Oh, okay.
1:00:48
That's all I need.
1:00:49
You can rewind the main camera.
1:00:50
You can't rewind, like,
1:00:51
all the extra cameras.
1:00:54
Yeah, that's all you need.
1:00:55
Yeah.
1:00:57
The extra cameras are cool.
1:00:58
If you didn't know you could do that.
1:01:00
I said, I said it on Sunday night,
1:01:02
you can go to the rogue website and
1:01:04
they have multiple camera views and you
1:01:07
can go picture and picture on your screen.
1:01:10
And so you can see multiple angles of
1:01:12
the same thing.
1:01:14
So you don't like the, the main angle.
1:01:16
You can look at the cable cam.
1:01:17
You can look at the rig cam.
1:01:19
You can look at the end zone cam.
1:01:21
It's awesome.
1:01:22
Cause rogue is the best.
1:01:26
And because fake Sevan just showed up,
1:01:28
we're out of here.
1:01:29
Thank you, guys.
1:01:30
We'll see you later.
