- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on. Do your thing, Big Daddy. Uh-huh.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I sure will. Good morning, everybody. Y'all listening to The Voice. Oh,
- 0:09Speaker 2: come on now, dig me. If you will, one and
- 0:12Speaker 2: only Steve Harvey.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Got a radio show.
- 0:15Speaker 2: You know, one of the things about being successful, and
- 0:19Speaker 2: I was sharing this just the other day with a
- 0:23Speaker 2: young man, and he asked me, he said, hey, man,
- 0:27Speaker 2: I just don't see how You get up that early
- 0:30Speaker 2: in the morning. I just don't see how, man, it
- 0:34Speaker 2: would kill me to get up this early in the morning. Well,
- 0:37Speaker 2: I sat there and I'm listening to it because it's
- 0:39Speaker 2: just a thousand times I've heard it, you know. And
- 0:42Speaker 2: my life is, you know, not too different from a
- 0:45Speaker 2: lot of people's lives. There's a lot of people out
- 0:47Speaker 2: there that rise early. And I just sit there, man,
- 0:51Speaker 2: because I mean, first of all, I'm grateful to be
- 0:54Speaker 2: able to have a job. I'm so grateful to be
- 0:56Speaker 2: able to do one. And several that I happen to
- 0:59Speaker 2: enjoy doing. I mean, you know, it's work. And it's
- 1:02Speaker 2: difficult at times. But, I mean, you know, I wanted this.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You know, you can't ask God for nothing. He didn't
- 1:08Speaker 2: give it to you. You didn't be mad that you
- 1:09Speaker 2: got it. It don't make no sense. The problem with
- 1:12Speaker 2: asking God for stuff is a lot of times we
- 1:15Speaker 2: asking for stuff, we don't really know what all it encompasses,
- 1:18Speaker 2: what all it really is. And I ask for this. Now,
- 1:21Speaker 2: along the way, I've gotten far more than I asked for.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I want you to do understand that. And, you know,
- 1:28Speaker 2: that's his grace at work in my life. But I
- 1:31Speaker 2: get up early and I go to work because I
- 1:33Speaker 2: do understand something that it.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Is not walking up to you.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Nobody walks up to people normally and just hand them
- 1:40Speaker 2: checks all the time and enough checks to sustain your
- 1:44Speaker 2: life and not only sustain it, but to have a
- 1:46Speaker 2: life that where you could enjoy and do some of
- 1:49Speaker 2: the things you want to do. I don't know the
- 1:51Speaker 2: person that walks out, hands out that money just to
- 1:54Speaker 2: be doing it. And then with a lifestyle where you can,
- 1:58Speaker 2: you know, give your kids a Christmas, you know, take
- 2:01Speaker 2: your family on vacation, you know, a year, once a year.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I don't know nobody passing out that kind of money.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So I get up early in the morning and I
- 2:07Speaker 2: get at it. I was taught to get up early
- 2:10Speaker 2: in the morning by my father because my father says,
- 2:14Speaker 2: ain't nothing going to come to you while you're laying there.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And you know what?
- 2:18Speaker 2: It's just true, man. It's just a little common sense.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Old people are smart, man. They've been around a long time.
- 2:24Speaker 2: You know some old fools out there, but you don't
- 2:26Speaker 2: have to deal with them. But old people are pretty smart, man.
- 2:30Speaker 2: They've learned a lot along the way. And waking up
- 2:32Speaker 2: early and getting out of it is one of them things.
- 2:34Speaker 2: And I ask everybody, man, to think about this scenario
- 2:37Speaker 2: of your life. If a day has 24 hours in it,
- 2:41Speaker 2: And let's just say you choose to sleep eight of
- 2:44Speaker 2: those hours because they tell you you need eight hours sleep.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So you sleep eight hours. That's a third of your
- 2:52Speaker 2: life asleep already. Just a third of your life is
- 2:57Speaker 2: spent asleep. If you go do eight hours a day. Now,
- 3:01Speaker 2: let's say you have a job that you work eight hours.
- 3:04Speaker 2: It is not the job of your dreams. It's not
- 3:06Speaker 2: your dream career, your dream profession. It's just the one
- 3:09Speaker 2: you took, like all of us, to get it started.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And then, like all of us, some of us end
- 3:14Speaker 2: up having to stay there because we've created these bills
- 3:17Speaker 2: because we check to check so we can't leave it
- 3:19Speaker 2: because we'll lose what we've worked for. So let's just
- 3:22Speaker 2: say you got a job that you go to work
- 3:24Speaker 2: to for eight hours. That's another third of your life.
- 3:28Speaker 2: That's two thirds of your life. Feel how you want
- 3:31Speaker 2: to feel about your two thirds. Well, I like sleep.
- 3:33Speaker 1: OK, cool. There's a scripture about that, too.
- 3:35Speaker 2: But now you spent two thirds of your life, one
- 3:38Speaker 2: on a job you don't care for if you're not
- 3:39Speaker 2: happy there or one that just pays the bills and
- 3:42Speaker 2: it's not your dream job or career.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Another third of your life is sleep. Oh, now let's
- 3:46Speaker 1: hold on.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Let's talk about the one hour of preparation that it
- 3:49Speaker 2: may take to get to the job. That's 17 hours.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Let's say your drive time. Let's say getting to your
- 3:56Speaker 2: job for the average person. It's anywhere between 30 to
- 4:00Speaker 2: an hour. That's an average of what it takes to
- 4:03Speaker 2: average person. Now, some people out there hustling way harder
- 4:05Speaker 2: than that. But let's just say your average is an
- 4:07Speaker 2: hour getting to work. You add another hour to that
- 4:11Speaker 2: going to work. You've now spent 18 hours out of
- 4:16Speaker 2: the 24 doing something different. That's either nonproductive, you're not
- 4:21Speaker 2: happy with, you're not pleased about, it's not your dream job,
- 4:24Speaker 2: it's not your dream profession, and the rest of the
- 4:26Speaker 2: time you sleep 18 hours. Now, you got to come
- 4:29Speaker 2: from the job. So let's just say it's another hour
- 4:31Speaker 2: to get back home. That's 19 hours. 19 hours out
- 4:34Speaker 2: of a 24-hour day. You now have five hours left
- 4:37Speaker 2: in your day. Oh, you watch TV two hours a day? Okay,
- 4:41Speaker 2: excuse me. Now you put two hours of TV on there.
- 4:45Speaker 2: You've just spent 21. You now have three hours left.
- 4:48Speaker 2: In the day to do something super productive for the
- 4:53Speaker 2: development of yourself and the future of your family and
- 4:57Speaker 2: your future as a person and what you can provide
- 5:00Speaker 2: for your family.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Oh, I need to chill. I need to smoke one.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Oh, I need some time at happy hour. Seem like
- 5:10Speaker 2: all I do is drive to work and go to work.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I'm gonna go out with the fellas, drink one. Okay,
- 5:17Speaker 2: let's say you spend two hours at happy hour. Nobody
- 5:20Speaker 2: go to a happy hour just for an hour. Let's
- 5:22Speaker 2: say you spend two hours at happy hour smoking or
- 5:25Speaker 2: some video games. Let's throw that in there. Two hours
- 5:27Speaker 2: of smoking, chilling, video games. That's 23 hours of your
- 5:31Speaker 2: day gone. Don't you see how your day slips away
- 5:34Speaker 2: from you? So why would you get up early? You
- 5:38Speaker 2: get up early to get a jump. You get up
- 5:41Speaker 2: early to produce, to plan, to become productive people. You
- 5:46Speaker 2: get up early in the morning to care about every
- 5:48Speaker 2: single minute of your day. You wake up early in
- 5:51Speaker 2: the morning because you have a plan, a mission. You
- 5:55Speaker 2: have something you want to accomplish. The earlier you get up,
- 5:58Speaker 2: the more time you have just for you to devote
- 6:00Speaker 2: to your plan. You map it out. You make some sense,
- 6:03Speaker 2: some emails, whatever it is you need to do to
- 6:06Speaker 2: get your dream on the way. Then you go get ready.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Then you get in your car and go to work.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Then you go to your job. But on your job,
- 6:14Speaker 2: instead of sitting at your lunch break, messing around with
- 6:17Speaker 2: a bunch of people laughing and talking about nothing, playing dominoes.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Why don't you take that hour to do some more
- 6:22Speaker 2: research to send out some more e-mails? to put some
- 6:26Speaker 2: feelers out there to see what can get you in
- 6:28Speaker 2: the place that you want to be. Then when you
- 6:31Speaker 2: get off, instead of driving straight home, why don't you
- 6:34Speaker 2: go somewhere in a meeting, you know, take in a
- 6:37Speaker 2: session with some people in a positive mental state, group
- 6:39Speaker 2: of people that get together and network for business, not
- 6:42Speaker 2: drink at happy hour. I said network for business. So
- 6:46Speaker 2: after you've done that eight that you don't really care
- 6:48Speaker 2: for on a job, you spend some more time pursuing,
- 6:51Speaker 2: looking into, researching, working towards, sending out some more applications,
- 6:57Speaker 2: putting in some more time to build your new app,
- 7:00Speaker 2: discussing some more networking ideas. Okay, that's your happy hour.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Then when you go home, instead of chilling, drinking one,
- 7:07Speaker 2: having a cold one, smoking one, playing a video game,
- 7:11Speaker 2: why don't you take that two hours and devote that
- 7:14Speaker 2: to that business idea you got, to that family that
- 7:17Speaker 2: you talk about you really want.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Spend some time with your children. Put something into them.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Do something, man, with all these precious hours that God
- 7:26Speaker 2: gives all of us in the course of a day.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Take advantage of every minute of that.
- 7:31Speaker 2: No human being has more than 24 hours a day,
- 7:34Speaker 2: including myself. But if you care about every single minute
- 7:39Speaker 2: of that day, you'll be amazed at how much you
- 7:42Speaker 2: could get accomplished in a 24 hour day. But you
- 7:46Speaker 2: can't get none of that happening because you sleep and
- 7:49Speaker 2: you chill it. And you smoking.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:53Speaker 2: What has that done for you, your family, or your future?
- 7:57Speaker 2: Care about every minute of your day.
- 7:59Speaker 1: You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
