- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking at bay.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: After more than 60 years in sales and leadership,
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: I've learned that Biblical wisdom is the most valuable asset we can carry into
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: the marketplace.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Each time I read Proverbs,
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Scripture reveals practical insight for leadership,
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: service, and building relationships that far outlast the last transaction.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: So pour yourself a cup of your favorite brew and let's explore today's proverb together.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Well, today we are in Proverbs 23,
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: verse 18,
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: using the New King James Version in KJV, quote,
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: for surely there is an afterlife and your hope will not be cut off, end quote.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: That's Proverbs 23, verse 18, from the New King James Version.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: From my perspective,
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: hope is one of the rarest things and most valuable assets in today's marketplace.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: It doesn't show up on the balance sheet, and frankly, it isn't a strategy.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: But its absence is felt everywhere,
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: especially during seasons of uncertainty or the goals aren't happening and,
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: the bottom line isn't where it should be, nor is the top line for that matter.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: When I was doing some research for business The book that this podcast is coming
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: from,
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I came across a quote from a field general by the name of Marshall Foch
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: and it goes all the way back to World War I.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: His quote, there is no hopeless situation, only men who have grown hopeless about them.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: From my perspective, that statement pairs beautifully with Proverbs 23, 18.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: It also reminds me that there is a hereafter,
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: a future,
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: and that when we anchor our hope in God through Christ Jesus,
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: we will not be cut off.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Our hope will never be cut off.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Now, once again,
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: hope isn't wishful thinking, and like I said earlier, It isn't even a strategy.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: It's rooted in perspective.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I recently published Dear Austin, What I Wish I Knew at 26.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: It was a letter that I wrote to myself,
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: my 26-year-old self,
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: by way of my grandson Austin, who is 26 at the time I published it.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And here's an excerpt.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: There will be tough times when feelings of despair,
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: even personal ruin, but in this private suffering, awesome dreams will be born.

- 3:55SPEAKER_00: in compensation for what you're going through.

- 4:27SPEAKER_00: and one of my favorites is The Noticer.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: And here's a quote that I really like about a lot of the quotes
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: that Andy has written in his books.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Whatever you focus on increases.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will soon feel worse.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: But a grateful perspective brings happiness and abundance,
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: end quote, Andy Andrews from The Noticer.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: You know, the ripple effect of hope begins with where we set our focus.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: It grows through the words we speak and the attitude we carry.
