- Lucas: Hey, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 182 already — where does the time go? Lucas: I know. Last episode we covered 'makan' and 'minum' — eat and drink. Today, let's talk about what happens after a long day of eating and drinking. Luna: Oh, I think I know where this is heading. Sleep? Lucas: Exactly. The Malay word for sleep is 'tidur'. Say it with me: tidur. Luna: Tidur. Lucas: Good. Now, to say 'I sleep', it's 'Saya tidur'. Saya tidur. Luna: Saya tidur. What time do you usually tidur, Lucas? Lucas: Around 10 p.m. But let's keep it simple. 'Saya tidur' — I sleep. Try it again. Luna: Saya tidur. That's pretty straightforward. Lucas: Now for the opposite — wake up. In Malay, 'bangun'. Bangun. Luna: Bangun. Like getting up in the morning. Lucas: Right. 'Saya bangun' means 'I wake up'. Saya bangun. Luna: Saya bangun. So 'Saya tidur' and 'Saya bangun'. Lucas: Yes. Let's do a quick scene. I'll be me, you be you. Good morning, Luna. You just woke up. Luna: Oh, okay. Selamat pagi, Lucas. Saya bangun. Lucas: Perfect. And at night, before bed, you say? 'Saya tidur'. Luna: Saya tidur. Good night, Lucas. Lucas: Selamat malam, Luna. Now let's try with 'dia' — he or she. 'Dia tidur' — he sleeps or she sleeps. Luna: Dia tidur. And 'Dia bangun'? Lucas: Yes. 'Dia bangun' — he wakes up or she wakes up. Say it. Luna: Dia bangun. So if my friend wakes up early, I can say 'Dia bangun awal'? But we haven't learned 'awal' yet. Lucas: Right, let's not get ahead. Stick with 'Dia bangun'. That's enough for now. Luna: Okay. Dia bangun. Lucas: Let's practice all four. Repeat after me: Saya tidur. Luna: Saya tidur. Lucas: Saya bangun. Luna: Saya bangun. Lucas: Dia tidur. Luna: Dia tidur. Lucas: Dia bangun. Luna: Dia bangun. Lucas: Excellent. Lucas: She wakes up. Luna: Dia bangun. Lucas: He sleeps. Luna: Dia tidur. Lucas: I wake up. Luna: Saya bangun. Lucas: Perfect. You really have those down now. Luna: Thanks! I think I could use them in real life. Like, 'Saya tidur' when I'm tired, and 'Saya bangun' when my alarm goes off. Luna: Great tip. I'll try it tomorrow morning. Lucas: That's it for Episode 182. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Selamat tidur, everyone. Luna: Selamat tidur! See you.
