Our buddy Leonard is just a local guy ready to help improve your home's needs and an affordable rate. Can reach Len at 609-784-6862 or at the Village Handyman at Facebook and Instagram. He actually went out and did an estimate for a friend of mine, ⁓ one of my coworkers for my days up in Hamilton Township School District. ⁓ she said he was very nice. Yeah. And reminded Her of her father. So if you're looking for that kind of vibe, give our buddy Len a call. He's a good dude and they do amazing work. All right, before we get into this episode, Yeah. ⁓ I just wanted a quick shout out to a buddy of mine, Chief Grilly. ⁓ I'm not gonna say where he was at or, you know, his first name or anything. he was a huge mentor for me when I started my career. Herbie: Leonard. ⁓ Shamus: very well respected. He's a great guy. awesome family man. I've met his mom, dad, his brothers. ⁓ just an all-around good guy from a good family. and I just wanted to, you know, wish him well in his next endeavors ⁓ and congratulate him on his retirement. Yeah, yeah, he actually just hung him up. And with that being said, I haven't had a chance to do this. everybody who left after me ⁓ who retired, you know, congratulations, guys. Herbie: Congratulations. Shamus: But we also have a huge contingent going in July. if anybody's worked for the state or any kind of union, you realize like when a contract is renewed and stuff like that. And then once you pass that threshold where you can actually retire with that, I think you have to do a year or something like that. ⁓ so a lot of guys are are hitting a door. some have already left. But I just want to say congratulations to everybody. But a huge shout out to Grilly. Grilly's always been that guy who's taking care of everybody. When he was an officer, he took care of his, you his co-workers, his peers. When he was a sergeant, he made sure everybody was taken care of. there was a good group of young sergeants at that point. It was Carr, Shear, him, and they all fell under this guy, T Fish, who was a great mentor for them. Yeah. then Grilly just kept climbing the ranks, man. actually all three of those guys say cars, Shear. lieutenants, and you know, I think that's where Carr stopped, but Shear ended up being a chief and Girley was a chief So I mean, I couldn't learn from a better dude. I've never seen a human being take a pound of Twizzlers to the face in one shot. ⁓ and yes, it it did happen. And he did do it. He took one pound of Twizzlers, the red ones, the god they weren't the black ones out of yes ⁓ and he folded them up and stuck a pound of Twizzlers in his face ⁓ and chewed up. It took him like forty five minutes, but he got ⁓ down. Herbie: Yeah. Chewed on it like a damn beaver. Shamus: Yeah, he's it's like I said, awesome dude and I just wanted to say congratulations. And for everybody else I used to kick it with at that job who's still there grinding, just hang in there. Your day will come. Yeah, man. So Herbie: Yeah, 'cause if I could retire, I would I would do it right I would do it today if I could retire. Shamus: ⁓ but you're still gonna have to work. Especially in this day. Herbie: ⁓ we can do this and do the interview and stuff, man. Yeah. Because today's the Shea Day. Shea Day. Shea Day. Shea Day. Shea Day. Shamus: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we could do that. I guess. But ⁓ yeah, that's the only reason why I'm still working. It's too expensive to live in here. So All right, let's go. Erm, what's the deal? Herbie: Alright man, so we're gonna start off with the basic questions, then the secrets, then the fun questions. Shamus: Well these are all the same questions I asked you last week, right? Yep. Alrighty. Let it rip Tater Chip. Herbie: So what is your first name and where does it come from? Shamus: ⁓ well obviously everybody knows my first name is Seamus. It's spelled S-H-A-M-U-S, the American version of it. And I want to keep it quick. ⁓ my dad owned a bar in Philadelphia when he was younger on second in Rockland called Jimmy Max, who was right off the Boulevard in northeast Philly. Rough neighborhood. It was a Roofers bar, ⁓ tough bar. ⁓ Married before, had a son named James, got divorced, met my mom. Knocked her up, obviously. Wanted to name me James. My mom was like, Absolutely not. You're not George Foreman. You're not naming all your kids Jimmy. ⁓ so there was a drunk guy sitting at the end of the bar, overheard my dad telling his buddy Pete the pirate. Yeah. And he went, Name him Sheamus. My dad went, What? Name him Seamus. Gaelic for James. So apparently this dude ended up he was an he was a regular. He ended up being my godfather. He died like when I was 18 months. C cirrhosis of the liver. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: So I have a picture with him. His name was Joe Ford. So yes, some northeast Philadelphian drunk who used to hang out at my dad's bar came up with the name. So Herbie: like the same thing with my dad. He had like an he had another, you know, kids with with another lady before me and his name was Herbie and yeah I'm a Herbie. I'm like, what the hell how many do you need? What do you like in witness? ⁓ It was like almost like in witness protection program or something, man. He's like, I guess he's in, you know, incognito or some crap. I don't know. All right. So being that with your first name, we're like, where were you born at? Shamus: Never be enough Herbie. I was born in Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania, July third, nineteen seventy seven. Coolest shit to hit the planet since refrigeration. Herbie: You All right. Well what is about what is your favorite food? Which I've always had a question about. Shamus: All right, well, if I had to if anything black licorice absolutely sucks. I can pretty much eat anything else. ⁓ I don't want to just be like Asian or Mexican because I can eat anything. I love food. But if I if I had to boil down to one thing, I'm gonna keep it simple. It's gonna be a choke sandwich, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on Italian, like that white bread kind of stuff. ⁓ I think it's called Mayor's. But it's gotta be chunk super chunky peanut butter, ⁓ grape jelly. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: And I have to have a tall glass of milk. ⁓ Done deal. I'm simple dude, man. Herbie: From the guy that actually had like, you know, drink like hot goat milk in the middle of the Middle East in a freaking big metal bowl, like the chalice. Shamus: There's no peanut butter and a jelly on a planet that could help that, bro. Herbie: Can you imagine if that like that that that chalice was actually like the what is it, the ⁓ holy grail and they're like you have chos Shamus: It was as dusty. It was as dusty as the one he pulled off the shelf. He was like, Jesus was a carpenter. Yeah. And like blew all that shit. I that dude pulled that out of his bag. Was like, friend. I was like, Herbie: Yeah. God. ⁓ Jesus. I wouldn't ask you to do that, man. I'm All right, well what do you like to do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies? Shamus: No. Nope. Okay. ⁓ as I get older it it seems like ⁓ you know, just working around the house doing stuff outside. ⁓ like I said, I opened up the pool today, which is pretty cool. Just you know, anything DIY or whatever the fuck they call it. ⁓ just around the house kind of stuff. I I still enjoy playing music. ⁓ like playing the drums, ⁓ singing, that kind of deal. But I mean I can't sing. I can drum, I can't sing. Yeah. So just that I'm ⁓ I bought that nineteen sixty seven Ford F three fifty out there, dude. So nice. ⁓ like I said when I was a kid I used to hunt my dad at his body shop and his his motor shop. So I'm probably gonna start restoring that a little bit. Herbie: Do a little bit of tinkering, I guess. Shamus: Right bro, I went to start that this morning and my neighbor was like, What the f like he was like, I can just see the gas cage moving on that song bitch and I was like, Yeah, buddy. Herbie: Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. You just see like sign dollar signs just like coming right out there the exhaust. Shamus: ⁓ yeah, man, there was I'ma suck the bird at the carburetor when I want to give it gas. I went That thing sucks a marin. Herbie: Ha ha ha. It's air fried chicken. All right, well what what is your biggest fear? Shamus: ⁓ letting people down. ⁓ when I was a kid, like my parents always emphasized, you know, like the basic American, you know, you always pay your debts. If you give somebody your word, you know, your word's always as good as who you are, that kind of deal. ⁓ you know, it's always seren man, you know, you hold doors open, you pull out chairs, you know, that kind of deal. So it was like your basic kind of stuff. ⁓ one thing they always said was, you know, always do your best. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: And try not to let people leave people in lurch or leave people hanging. Herbie: And Shamus: As I got older, I'll just give you a quick ⁓ thing. The day I went to graduate, like back in the day, they actually used to hold us accountable for our actions in school. I didn't have an I had to go to summer school my senior year. Yeah. And they were just like, Yeah, you're not walking at graduation. And I was like, Are you serious? And they're like, Yeah. And absolutely looking back on it, they did the right thing. You're an idiot. You didn't have you didn't do what you had to do to walk into class. You're not walking. And the look on my mom's face. Like just total letdown. And I was like, that shit will never happen again. So I mean it was a blessing in disguise. Yeah. ⁓ I ended up getting my diploma in a parking lot of some fucking high school I didn't go to. And like literally, like the principal was there that day, was like, here, pfft I never had to see you again. Beat it. I mean, he was cool. He was like, hey, good luck to you and all that stuff, but it was 'cause I wasn't a bad kid. I just didn't I was just kind of lazy or just partied, but Herbie: ⁓ Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: ⁓ yeah. And that look on her face crushed me. And I thought to my I'm going to the military. Everything I do in the military, I'm gonna everything I got one hundred and ten percent when I got to the state. ⁓ she was at my graduation and I was just like, I'm not gonna fuck this up because they always push the pension and say I mean we'll get later on down the road about I probably should have left, but everything I did, I always made sure like, okay, I have to follow through and finish it now 'cause I'm not gonna let anybody down, especially my parents ever again. So that's my biggest fear is Just letting people down. Herbie: Yeah, but you achieved your goal though, man. Your mom saw you, you know. Shamus: ⁓ yeah, yeah, yeah. ⁓ I wish she could have been alive when I retired. You know, see it through. But I mean she was there with me. So Herbie: Yeah. Fuck yeah she is. The force is still with Wanna make sure she's like, Lord, come on, man. Just get him home safe. Shamus: I hope she wasn't at the bar I was at after that night, yeah. She just went That was one thing about like when I first I would come home from the military ⁓ we're rambling, but I would come home from the military and go out partying with my friends. Like I just got back in the country from doing some crazy shit. Like go out to like a barn, local rivers where I know everybody and stuff. And like I'd walk in at three thirty in the morning and she's sitting on the couch waiting. I'm like, What are you doing? She's like, I'm waiting for you to get home, make sure you're safe. I'm like, Mom, I'm twenty three years old. You know? Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, she's like, Yeah, you could be seventy three there, boy. Shamus: Yeah, and that's what she said. She's I'll wait up to the day you know and then I Are you serious? Yeah. ⁓ I always made sure if I wasn't coming home I called her 'cause I didn't want to let her down. Yeah. Herbie: Yeah, 'cause you know what yeah. Yeah, that makes sense, man, 'cause you don't want her waiting and stuff like that. Like, mom, I'm good. Shamus: Yeah, well once I got my own place she didn't wait up for me or anything. Like when I bought my first house and all that. But you know, ⁓ yeah, I just never wanted to let her down. So when I did come home from the military and I, you know, didn't come home. I would they're like, Are you really calling your mom? I'm like, Yeah, I'm calling my mom 'cause she'll wait up all night. So Herbie: Plus I'm not getting a whole parking lot full of uppercuts if I don't Shamus: ⁓ yeah. She was still fucked me up. I was like seven percent body fat back then and ripped up like a Spartan and she would have like, I don't care. Yeah. Herbie: I went to war, but I ain't messing with mama. Shamus: Yeah, she'd have gave me that Ric Flair chop across the chest like Tyler Why'd you call it My Dad would be in the corner counting them. Yep, two, three. So yeah, ⁓ just not letting her down or letting people down in general is my biggest fear. Herbie: Now we have arrived to the secret section. ⁓ favorite thing about yourself? Shamus: I would have to say I think you said the same thing too. ⁓ my my sense of humor. Yeah. ⁓ but my sense of humor is a little What's ⁓ we could be in the worst situation in the world and like I would just say something totally off the wall and people were just like, What the f like like you said at ⁓ fast times on that guy to Moan. Yeah. We could be like in some blown out building somewhere and shit like that. People like and I was like, Isn't this great paying us to do this? This is amazing. Or like, you know, a small ride and you know Herbie: It's great. Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: Where I'm like, this is what's up, man. This is why I live for this shit. You guys ready to handle this? Let's go, man. This is gonna be a good day. And they're like, Are you s what what? Herbie: You're like, I'm almost out of ammo. What the hell are you talking about? Shamus: Hell yeah. ⁓ then I would do like like certain officials, you know, like the governor or something would be like and I'd walk in and like Jesus Christ, he's here the oil to have these cheap ass donuts, like Jesus Christ. Fucking you would think they would have better shit for this fucking like I've had like people like in high fucking offices like who the fuck is this dude? So I it's my sense of humor. Herbie: Like, I've had hot goat milk in a ball, man. Even that's better than these goddamn donuts. Shamus: ⁓ man. Like exact yeah, it's I I just you know, just say and do stuff just to catch a Herbie: Dude, you're never gonna live that like goat milk in a in a bowl thing, man. ⁓ all right, so ⁓ what have you ever have you ever have you ever done something you really regret besides that goat milk? Shamus: Well, getting back to my whole career thing, like you know, my mom being there stuff, my biggest regret is staying where I was. ⁓ for some reason, I don't know. I was pretty high speed the military. Like I was one of those guys that was just driven like But yeah. And when I got out I was just kinda I was having a hard time. Herbie: Yeah, go, go. Shamus: Finding because a lot of us were coming home and like a lot of guys were getting out because that was like really when the war started really ramping up. and like a lot of local local townships were just taking their guys, their veterans and stuff. ⁓ Riverside obviously wasn't hiring at the time. And I was just like, Okay, well I'll jump on this train until I find something or, you know, the next day police gig opens up and stuff and I just never And it's it's not entirely a bad thing because like we talked about before this pod when we were talking about my buddy Grilly retiring. There was a great group of guys there. And I was just kinda like, Man, this is great, but it was a dead end job. There's only two things you can do there unless you get promoted and stuff. And when I could have maybe went to Philadelphia, I could have like the guy from New York City called me and was just like, dude, well, I'll come down and get you. Like just take this test. Like, come on down. ⁓ the state police called and they were like, Hey, ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: Long story short, there was a kind of a mix up with the first interview like I did. I was at the last interview for the state police. And they were like, Hey, here's the deal, because I was still in the military. They were like, We'll just the next cycle, we won't have you do all the paperwork and shit. We're just gonna call you in for the final interview. And I was just kind of when they called, I was finishing up another academy and I was just kinda like, I'm not doing this shit for another eight months. And I was like, Yeah, I'm good. Are you fucking serious? Like, yeah, man. So my biggest regret Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: was staying where I was at. I should have just kind of like, yeah, where am I reporting? And because at that time I've done so much in so little time. Like so many schools and the military and stuff, military police school, basic training, like da-da-da. And then every class you take after that, ⁓ then the deployments and that like I was never home. Like I was never around. And then I got out and I was down at Seagirt for this academy. And like we're running every day and shit. And at that point I'm like twenty four What was I twenty-five or twenty six? And then watching cause just watching how shit worked at Seagirt and sound and I was like, I don't want to do like I'm tired of fucking running every morning. I'm tired of people yelling at me. No, it makes sense. I'm tired of fucking getting yelled at for this dick bag fucking up. You know what I mean? So and I was just kind of done. ⁓ but that is my biggest regret was staying stagnant. Like I looking back on it, don't get me wrong, I have a pension, I do have medical and all that stuff, which is huge nowadays. But I should have been Martin Friggs or like one of those d like I you know, jumping out of helicopters and shit and chasing cars up freeways and you know, a Clint Eastwood movie. But no, no, I just never chased that dream. I just got lazy and Herbie: Do you feel lucky punk? Yeah. Do you? Shamus: Yeah. Exactly. Do you wanna jump? That's how I was in the military and I was like, Yeah and it was just like well wait a minute, hold on that. Like I would just Herbie: As crazy as you are though, that you probably wouldn't even wait her for the goddamn like, you know, the the the bag to be set up for f you know, to like the the cushion the blood. Shamus: ⁓ that's what I was gonna say because sometimes they would be given instruction that I would just and they're like, Wow, wow, wow it just Herbie: Like into the breach. ⁓ Shamus: This is a tough one, man. ⁓ I've actually looked people in the eye knowing that this was a lie and went, It's gonna be all right. ⁓ there has been times, now don't get me wrong, there is times where some people need it, like, hey, it's gonna be all right, man. We we're good. And it it actually worked out. ⁓ but there was times where you look at people and you're just like, Hey man, it's gonna be all right. And knowing in your heart that it's not gonna be all right. And yeah. ⁓ like even what like I did it with my dog. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: Before they gave him that shot, man. Like he's laying on that steel table and he and you're just like, Hey buddy, it's gonna be all right. And next thing you know he's the eyes are grayed over and he's cold and you're just like, Man, what the fuck? ⁓ I've had other people do that while you're looking at like I mean, one thing I do take away from that is I think they know that you're just trying to comfort ⁓ and stuff like that. And ⁓ and they died looking into the eyes of a friend. So yeah, that's probably the biggest lie I've ever told. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: Now there's always some little white lies. No, that doesn't make you look fat. Your mom's the best. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: I would love to go hunting with your father this weekend. Yeah. So ⁓ but yeah, ⁓ telling somebody, you know, it's gonna be all right when you know it's not gonna be all right is Herbie: Yeah, but you did that for the right reasons though, man. You know? And you console them, so that's that's something for you to take in. Yep. All right, well name one thing you could change about yourself. Shamus: ⁓ absolutely. Size of my head. And for all you perverts out there, I'm talking about the one on my shoulders. No, I think ⁓ I need to enjoy life more. ⁓ for some reason I just have this It's not it's like an engine. I I just can't sit still for some reason. I can't like going on vacation to me, I'm like, All right, we're here, let's enjoy this. I gotta go home, I got shit to do. Like I I need to sit and and, you know, smell the roses and whatever that term is. Herbie: Yeah. It's almost like you're doing the yeah, that makes sense, man. Well, at least like you're being aware of stuff like that though. Shay, there's a lot of people that actually don't even realize that till the end or sh you know, and they have like regrets like that. Shamus: Yeah, I gotta slow down a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. I I a lot of people give me shit because they're like, ⁓ you don't wanna travel, you don't wanna no, I don't wanna go shi I've seen all that shit. Like I've been to so many countries and I was doing that shit. But I mean like I I just need to Herbie: Enjoy what you have here. Shamus: Yeah, I just gotta slow down a little bit and sometimes look at something, ⁓ fuck it, I'll do it tomorrow. Let's go have a beer with Herbie or you know, go see Big Bob's at the wax carrot company, you know, factory and see what's going on up there. So yeah, I gotta slow down a little bit. I'm excited. Herbie: Well have you ever been in love? Loving you is easy because you're beautiful. Yeah, I'm not gonna hit Yeah? Yeah. Shamus: Yeah, once. That was when I first got out of the military and was looking for a job and that wasn't going as well as I thought and then she kind of really railroad at me. so I think I mentioned in a other podcast before, like I almost drank myself to death and you know, and looking back, total moron. can't believe I did over not just her, but there was a lot of other things going on. yeah, so I was in love once. we still talk. She was married at one point. I think they're divorced. Well I know they're divorced. She has a son. and like I said, we keep a friend one thing I do pride myself on is like every and Don't get me wrong, I've had the privilege of dating some of the most amazing women on the planet. and they all are still friends. Like nothing's ever ended badly with me. I never cheated on anybody, I've never sold them any bullshit. so yeah, I think my well, my mom knew it too. She said there was always one she used to tell everybody because they're like, when do you get married, Seamus? Like all my aunts and stuff, and my mom like there was only one girl that could have done it. So she knew who it was too. ⁓ yeah, once. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. All right. Well here's some of the fun ones though. Where would you go if you had a time machine? Shamus: All right, real quick background story. back in the day, you could be 18 and drink in New Jersey. Yeah. Pennsylvania was twenty one. So my mom and her sisters, who lived in Philadelphia, would drive over to Jersey, right over to Taconi Pine Myer Bridge and drink here because it was legal to do it at eighteen. Yeah. They would go to the bar in town, town tavern. My dad I I don't know why he was over. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: he ended up coming over to Jersey for something. I forget. But he ended up meeting my mom at a bar in Riverside, New Jersey, before way before they lived there. ⁓ I think I would take the times machine and seize that exact moment. See how they met and all that stuff like that. Because like I said, they met, got married, left Philadelphia, and bought a house in Riverside. So ⁓ later they bought a house in the same town they met. So which what I thought was kind of romantic in a weird way. It is. Herbie: Yeah. Nah, that is romantic. Shamus: So yeah, I think I'd take the time machine, just sit across the bar and see how yeah you know, my dad macked my mom. Herbie: Ha ha ha ha. Shamus: And I'd probably be like this fucking dude's Herbie: Yeah. ⁓ Shamus: Either that or I'd be like, my man So Yeah. And it was right in it's like I said, it was a bar I drank at when, you know, I was twenty one and well before I was twenty one too, but but like it was a bar I used to go to all the time, down toward, right in Riverside. That's where they met. Herbie: ⁓ You really fall for his bullshit? ⁓ shit. All right. All right. Well, what would you buy if you won the lottery, say like fifty million dollar? Shamus: But obviously I take care of my family. I take care of you guys. ⁓ I think I would buy like a small like farm or rant. And on one side, you know, all the dogs had and cats and scoby ducks ⁓ and stuff that that don't get adopted. Yeah. ⁓ instead of having them euthanized, they could just come live out their days there. Or like the older dogs that people don't want to deal with and stuff. ⁓ they can come live their days out here at the McKnight Ranch. ⁓ And then the other side would probably be ⁓ Herbie: ⁓ Shamus: Like a body shop, custom shop or something like that for cars and bikes and stuff. Herbie: The only thing about that, ⁓ you know, with the animal thing, ⁓ the scoby ducks, they don't they don't die. They live forever. Yeah, you can't man. Shamus: ⁓ I guess they can't come in because I can't afford to feed them forever. And But yeah, something small, nothing ridiculous, maybe like twenty five acres or something like that. And you know, something Yeah, I don't want to lose it in a couple of years from 'cause I didn't pay my taxes and shit, you know. ⁓ but s but something I would like to do for, you know, animals that you know I I love animals. Animals are the deal. I like ⁓ more than people. So Herbie: Something manageable and stuff, not like, you know. Yeah, a lot of people do, man. They feel a lot of people feel the same way. Shamus: And like of course it would be sta you know, I'd have to pay veterinarian and stuff. Like I would do like most of the feeding and stuff, but I would need ⁓ professional help. Like veterinarians and stuff like that. Yeah, staff. Professional staff. And maybe do it like as a non profit, you know. Yeah. I I thought about doing something like that. And then on the other side, greasy, nasty fucking Herbie: Monster gas eating road Shamus: Ripping vehicles that just ⁓ that just make people go, what the Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. All the cars come out there looking like they came in a Mad Max movie and stuff. Hell yeah. All right, well ⁓ if you could eat dinner with one person ever, who is it? Shamus: Mm. I would I'm gonna hey I'm gonna take one. I was gonna say Chris for walking, that'd be pretty cool. Would be cool. But I think I'm gonna go with Keanu Reeves, man. That dude is one of the most laid back dudes on the planet. ⁓ and it seems like it wouldn't be a hard thing. I'm like, hey, you wanna have a name? Yeah, man, let's go. Herbie: Yeah. Totally. ⁓ Shamus: So yeah, I I think Keanu Reese 'cause he just like seems like such a down to earth person and just a cool cat overall. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Well he's one of those guys, a buddy of mine I served with does like bodyguard work for, you know, celebrities and stuff. Not so much out of Hollywood anymore because California's such a mess. ⁓ and they're all leaving. But ⁓ He was saying like that dude there's a difference between that guy and the guys you see on TMZ all the time. He said because the guys who like they come out of your house and they fight the cameras like fuck you guys about with the paparazzi and stuff. That's where that's where the money's at. Like Keanu's the kind of guy that's just like, Hey guys, what's going on? He'll stop, take ninety thousand pictures. He signs autographs and stuff. So when you go to TMZ, they're like ninety other photographers have the same picture, dude. Like we're not buying like Keanu's not and like Herbie: Okay. Shamus: People ask for an autograph, it's usually out of towners because everybody in LA has his autograph already. So he can walk the streets and people are like, Yeah, it's just Keanu. You know, that kind of deal. Herbie: He even the weird guy from the by the trash can at the Wawa's got like n a bunch of selfies with him. Shamus: Like even that guy doesn't want to talk to him. He's like, ⁓ it's fucking cute. there's that clip of him on the subway where he gets up and gives that lady his seat and stuff. And somebody's ⁓ my god, that's Keanu. And like the other guys are like, Hey, he fucking rides his shit every morning, man. So Yeah, he's just a cool dude. So like I would like to have ⁓ he's a big motorcycle and car enthusiast. So I would like to talk to him about that and you know, just ask a couple questions about some of his movies and stuff. The John Wick movies are are are great movies. But like, you know, some of his other stuff. Bill and Ted. Love to know about those movies and stuff. That kind of thing. So yeah, I I'd have to go with countries. Herbie: Yeah. All right, ⁓ let me see. If you could have superpowers, what would it be? Shamus: It's pretty easy. ⁓ I'm gonna have to go with I think Wolverine and Deadpool have the same like the regenerative building to recovery thing. Yeah, definitely. You could live forever on that shit. So But yeah, I g he's got cancer and it just constantly fights with the can and eats the cancer And then I mean Wolverine was blown up and he generated. So yeah, I I think it would be that. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah, the healing factor. That's true too. He comes back like hey what's up man? Shamus: I really don't give a shit about flying or any of that other stuff or so yeah, probably regenerative thing. Herbie: say dude you can just jump off a building get a sense of what it feels like to fly and just splat and walk it up like you know time for another bird Shamus: I I've been skydiving so That's what ⁓ the instructor told us. I will this is the closest thing that you'll ever get. Like human beings fly I believe human beings will fly. I'm like, all right, dude, this shoot's gonna open, right? 'Cause I only wanna fly for a little bit. Yeah. Then I would like to be under shoot. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Speaking of flying, if you could go into space, would ya? Shamus: I don't think I have to do I have to answer that? Fuck right. Yeah. And I want the front seat like on the on the roller coaster. Like put me in the front. Yeah. I need to see this shit. ⁓ Hell yeah, man. That would be 'cause first of all I mean there's only but maybe like is it less than a hundred people that have actually been in the space? Like with all the 'cause there's only like seven astronauts on each shuttle and some of them don't make it. Herbie: No, I was gonna say it's like ⁓ Yeah, I don't blame I would Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ yeah, too, I remember so Shamus: 'Cause when we were in school we got to watch that live. That's how tough our generation was. We watched seven people eat it right on national TV. Herbie: And a and a s and a teacher. Shamus: ⁓ but yeah, I I know Katie Perry's like, I've been to space shut up. ⁓ But I'll tell you what, I I don't even think she got as high as that dude on the red board. Did you see that shit? Herbie: The dude it like jumps like out of the freaking like Shamus: Like this. Like right where the sky blue and black, like right where the air stopped, there's dudes on there was a dude on a platform. Herbie: It's like if he jumped up from that platform he's in space. Shamus: Yeah, and he was just like dude, I would totally do that. We I know it was Memorial Day, I forget what year it was. Because I was at my military union and my buddy was watching it. He was like, dude, check this shit out. He was like, This is so you and I'm like, Where the fuck is this at? 'Cause all you could see was like it looked like an ⁓ T V commercial. Cause it was like kind of like the you could see like the earth, but it it looked like it was from space, but it wasn't. I'm like fuzzy. I'm like, dude, where the fuck is this guy at? He was like, dude, he's like on outer and my buddy's a nerd. He was like, he's on the stratosphere level. Yeah of right where the atmosphere in the stratosphere. And I was just kind of like, dude, how fucking far up is he? And he was like, dude, he's like 10 miles up. Like, like you said, if he jumps in the air, he's in space. And I was like, so what is he doing? He was like, he's he's skydiving. And I'm what? He was like, he's jumping off that platform and he's at the land. And I was like, dude, where was the fucking sign up sheet for that? Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: I was like, dude, I would love that. He was like, I know, that's why I called you over here. And I was like, ⁓ my God, that would be tense. That's fucking awesome. And we watched it. He fell for like 21 minutes. I was like, dude, that has got to be tall. Because I have skydived before. And when you're, you know, and you're just out in the wind, you're man, like that movie point break. Yeah. Like when you're just looking around, you're man, this is fucking amaz. Like the earth is so beautiful where you're at. And I was like, dude, jumping from that high for Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Twenty one minutes. Cause like I think the furthest I've ever fallen was like a minute forty, minute thirty or something. I forget. ⁓ and you're just like, Man, this is so I dude, I would totally do that. And fuck yeah, I'd go to space. Herbie: So you so you got like the point break guys that are like, ⁓ let's check this out, man. Then that dude's like, Hold my bear miles. Shamus: ⁓ yeah. Yeah. Like Jesus. I think anything over I want to say thirteen thousand or fifteen thousand you have to breathe a and that's like in the military, it's high it's halo, it's high altitude, low opening. That's the dudes who jump out with all the shit. And then they wait until like the last second, so they don't get picked up on radar and the enemy and stuff. But ⁓ anything over thirteen thousand yeah that dude was way past that, bro. So But I would do that and go to space. Sign me. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Jesus. Can you imagine if like he had a piss when he jumped out of that thing? He's like, God, I gotta wait twenty more minutes before I can and get the suit off. Shamus: Well I was gonna say you can't rip it off because then you start to freeze because like when you're at thirteen thousand feet and you jump out like it can be ninety degrees here. Yeah. When you get up to a certain t like you you have to wear like a sweatshirt and shit. It gets cold. He's that cold. He was wearing that special ass suit. Yeah. So it's Herbie: Yeah. ⁓ it's gotta be almost like like going like deep ⁓ deep in the ocean and it's like you gotta get in like that chamber thing to like you know Jesus that that would be pretty freaking cool all right well that's it well I like thank god you mentioned that because then we're at the goals section what is your greatest accomplishment Shamus: I had a decompression changer. Nope. I'm in. Either way. I would say ⁓ finishing out the my career like just doing the law enforcement thing over the last thirty years. ⁓ you know, military police, ⁓ state law enforcement and then now I'm an SR at the school. I thought ⁓ today I retire and everybody says this, and ⁓ another one of these statistics where you put that badge down, you put the gun away and you're like, I'm done with law enforcement da da da and then somebody was like, Hey, you wanna make thirty five dollars an hour watching Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: Elementary kids school. Here's a badge and get your gun. ⁓ ⁓ yeah. ⁓ I would like to think my law enforcement career 'cause I mean although I mean I was kind of a I was a prankster, I was a kid, yeah. But I would do some off the wall shit every once in a while and some of my teachers I mean back then teachers were mean to you. Yeah. And they could be mean and your parents 'cause you couldn't go home and tell my mom. I'm like, yo, you know, this she said I'm a fuck up, I'm a loser. And my mom's just like, So what did you do? I'm like, What do you mean? I didn't I didn't tell her to go fuck herself or anything, mom. She didn't know. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Are you a loser? Are you a fuck up? What are you doing in our class for her to say that? So I was like And sometimes, you know, teachers do have a doubt for you. It's but back in those days it's just the way it was. So I would like to see some of them teachers now and just be like Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: But yeah, I would that's probably my biggest goal is you know, I was able to you know build a a career that although I do regret, I am kinda proud. Herbie: So you feel that also like being being that the second question is your biggest goal right now, do you feel like that that's it or like what's what's your biggest goal right now? Shamus: I don't know. ⁓ I would like to I don't know, just live a long, healthy life, I guess. I would like to get a lot of stuff done around this house, but like I said earlier, I I do need to kind of slow down a little bit. Yeah. yeah, it's probably my biggest goal. It's just to slow down and smell the roses a little bit. Enjoy life. Retrospect for what it is. Yeah. Retrospect because I I tell people and a lot of people get pissed off because they see all that shit on that wall over there. Yeah. And they're just like, dude Some of the shit you've done in life, like no other like I was a volunteer fireman when I was 16 years old. I was running into burning bill and like went to the Burlington County Fireman County and was certified as that and was doing that. I've had my picture on in the newspaper doing that shit. ⁓ left there, joined the military, was a military police officer, like that fucking reacher guy you see on TV. ⁓ didn't do the patrol car shit because that's what they tell you you're gonna do. Some of you, but they like, No, you're going to this combat unit, dude. So you I got deployed a couple of times, got to see a lot of crazy shit. ⁓ left there, ⁓ worked for the state, got meet a lot of great people there, got to see a lot of crazy shit, but also got to help a lot of people along the way. ⁓ and a lot of people I think it was my brother. My brother was just like, dude, you gotta stop looking at the shit you've done and just like, man, you've done a lot of great shit in life and you really need to start appreciating that. So I kind of need to do that too. So my goal was to kind of not look back and appreciate it, but just continue on that path. Because if I think it's ⁓ it's only gonna get better because I'm Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: You know. But yeah, that's probably my biggest goal. Just keep doing what I'm doing, I guess. Herbie: Well what makes you nervous about the future? Shamus: It's not it's not so much the people. ⁓ it's a shame, but usually you take something like like September eleventh after that, we were all united, we were all one and stuff like that. ⁓ usually takes something like that or like a natural disaster or something to bring everybody together. ⁓ so it always seems to happen. ⁓ I'm gonna go with AI, man, because AI kind of freaks me out a little bit. ⁓ we talked about it on the side, that movie Idiocracy or something like that, where those guys end up on that planet where everybody's stupid. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: I think ⁓ technology is making people lazier and stupid. ⁓ you can d and I'm not even gonna get into the political stuff or the educational stuff or government stuff, but like if you're a kid nowadays, you don't even have to pick up a guitar to make a song or ⁓ like you could just go, Hey, AI, I'm a country singer and I wanna run a s write a song about my horse dying, my dog running away and drinking a bunch of Jack Daniels and it'll put out a song that'll probably be in the top twenty five. Yeah, you wouldn't even do anything. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Shamus: So I think it it's trying to start killing creativity too. ⁓ I just think us as a society, not just America, but like as a whole, really need to start it's cool. Everybody's got chat GPT and all this shit. And then I make the pictures for our podcast for Instagram and Facebook on there. But I think ⁓ they need to start taking some of these Chromebooks out of schools. They need to start Okay, AI is great, but we're only gonna use that as like an encyclopedia kind of deal. ⁓ and and really need to get back to like just books research and stuff like that. So yeah, AI kinda freaks me out a bit. And that I don't think determinator is a commoner. Herbie: Yeah, I'm waiting for an M41 Pulse rifle. Shamus: So But ⁓ yeah, I just like AI. Herbie: Hopefully if we have anyone that's smart with Teka, they can make a phase plasma rifle with a 40 watt range. I want that gun too from so I can kill some Terminators. There you go. Yeah, it's some nerd stuff. All right, well what what quality would you like to have as an old person? Shamus: I don't know if it's quality, but I would probably really like to meet well, he had a bunch of ⁓ I would kind of like hopefully I can mirror myself after my grandfather, my mom's dad. I never got a chance to meet my dad's dad. So ⁓ my grandpa, grandpa Joe dude was the smoothest dude on the planet. Man, he still can't I mean, carried a handkerchief. Guy didn't smoke. I mean, he was ninety. Two, ninety one when he passed away, but like up until he was like 89, he carried a light. God didn't smoke, he's quit smoking at 40. So at 89 he had a lighter. Because I was I was still smoking the time or whatever. And I was just like, God damn it, where's my lighter? And he pulled out a lighter and I like, You smoke, dude? And he was like, No. He's like, I haven't smoked since like 1956. And I was just like, So what's with the lighter? And it wasn't like just a bick, it was like one of those ⁓ it was a zip or ⁓ what the hell they call it. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: No, and it was probably from nineteen fifty six and I was I should have asked for it when he passed away, but I was like, So what's the lighter for it? And he was like, In case a woman a lady needs a light. Like he's one of those dudes. ⁓ always had a handkerchief with him. He always made sure if he was walking with one of his daughters or one of his dates, because he was a dater. She walked on the inside curve in case, you know, somebody splashed a puddle or something like that, or you know, he could protect her. Like he he was one of them old school stand up dudes, man. And I was just like, Pfft, that's mom. Herbie: Awesome. It's like probably still wearing the smoke jacket. Shamus: Yeah, like dude, he he was a monster. So ⁓ I think it was his 80th birthday party. Like his fifty-five year old girlfriend walked in and I was like, Wow, Bob Dude, I started because we were sitting in the kitchen. Yeah. It's a real quick story. We were sitting in the kitchen. He was standing behind me, leaned up on the counter, and I was sitting at the kitchen stable with my brother and stuff. And his one, my aunt was sitting, and she's very loud and boisterous. So this lady walks in and I was like at the time, I think I was like, her in between 30 and 35 and she and to me I was like who the fuck is this? So because we've never seen her before my brother's like God damn and I was like we notice she's older but didn't get it. I'm like who the fuck is that my grandfather you for he was like easy boys that one's with me. Now what I didn't realize was my grandmother who was standing in the corner and she kind of peeked around the door and looked she was like Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. She was still a bad Yeah. Shamus: That's your new girlfriend, Joe. And I'm team grandpa. That lady never liked me anyway. So I was just like, this is gonna be great. So he was like, and her name was Gertrude. He was like, yeah, Gert, that's my new. He was like, stick around, I'll introduce you. And she was like, She's just with you for the money. And he was just like, hey Gert, let me ask you something. We were poor when we met. Were you with me for the money? I was like shit. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah. Nice. Ding! Shamus: He went walking out and like my brother was just like, Did grandpa just pretty much tell us all that he throw some dick? I was like, I think so. My aunt my aunt was just like, God damn it, dad, that's sad. I was like dude, I leaned back and gave like one of those little and like he was like And she walked in the room and I was just like he was like this is my grand Yeah, my grandson Seamus, this is grand and we're and she was very nice, well spoken, da-da-da, and she looked Herbie: Yeah, go for him. Classy and a baby. Shamus: He's like, now if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, I have to go get her a drink. And I was like, by all means, brother, go get it. But he was just like, hey, we are dirt poor when we met. Were you with me for the money? And he he had six kids. I was like, but yeah, he had a a style and grace about him that just never got upset. I've never seen him say anything in anger. I've never seen the guy throw a punch. Even when we were kids, like you see some granddads like Jesus Christ, he's kind of that dude never. Herbie: Lang in Shamus: Like he would walk in the house, my mom would be chewing me out for something I didn't do or did or something. And as she walked away, he would give me like a little tap on the shoulder and give you that nod, like it's gonna be all right. All right, brother. So yeah. I if I if I could have any of that, I would take it. That was a cool ass joke. Yeah, he was a cool ass dude, bro. Herbie: Yeah. All right, well where do you see yourself in five years? Yeah, besides of this the smoke jacket and the lighter and the ⁓ the class A schlegen technique. Shamus: Still doing the pork, roll, egg and cheese podcast. ⁓ that and ⁓ I don't know. Just hopefully having a good time. So that's all I ever want to do in life. That's why we started this podcast, you know, just to have a good time and hopefully, you know, have a good time with the people listening. ⁓ and like I said, just try to and I and I hope the I hope society kinda does it too. ⁓ just try to treat everybody the way you want to be treated. ⁓ just respects people's space or beliefs and stuff. ⁓ You know, when we started this podcast, we always said it would never be about, you know, religion or politics and stuff because you guys can argue about that shit on your own time. I really don't give a fuck. ⁓ I just want everybody to and like I said, I'm kind, so just be kind back. Just give what you receive. Herbie: Yeah. Feel the same way, man. ⁓ Shamus: Yeah. Just in five years I just don't want to be an asshole. Yeah. Just wanna keep doing what I'm doing, man. I I it seemed like I got a pretty good following. I've got over of like three hundred Facebook friends. Must be doing something right. So And if it wasn't for you, I mean, where would I be? I over four hundred followers on our Instagram and shit. So I mean, ⁓ yeah. It's it's like I said, as long as I'm having a good time and not hurting anybody, I don't give a shit what I'm doing in five years. Herbie: matters man even for you listeners man this ⁓ we're we're glad that you guys like you know write in ⁓ we just hope that you enjoy these little episodes and ⁓ get a view on like how we live our lives and what we do with our lives because it's summer summer summer time Shamus: Why is it so hot in here? It's a brick, man. ⁓ is that it? Sweet. That w that went easier than I thought. Yeah, thanks, buddy. ⁓ Yeah, there's not it's like I said, I'm pretty much an open book. Most of those people know that shit anyway. But ⁓ yeah. So what do we got ⁓ we got coming up here? We got Father's Day coming up. We're gonna do an episode on Father's Day. Yeah. ⁓ I was just telling Herbie before ⁓ school gets out. Herbie: Yeah man. Shamus: Well, this episode will be t well Monday. So school gets out a week from to today. So hopefully we can get that goddamn studio built. We can get the video. That's coming on the 20th, I think. They said the 21st. The thing's coming in. So we got to start doing some test runs. I got to start putting the stuff together. So the next two or three weeks are going to be a little bit hectic. I don't know if we're going to be able to squeeze a guest in or two because we would like to save as many people as we can for video. ⁓ and then after we get everything up and running, we got to see where we're at. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: Everybody's on vacation and all this stuff. Herbie: That's around this time time of year, yeah. Shamus: Yeah. But other than that, man, I think I'm gonna next weekend drink some beers. Yeah, I gotta get back to that a bit, so what do you got going on? Herbie: Yeah. Drinking beers with Seamus. No. Shamus: Right, brother. We ready to wrap this one up? All right, everybody. Remember to like, rate, subscribe. I totally forgot because I had to open up my pool and stuff this weekend to come up with a place for our mailbag. so we're gonna do that this week too. So hopefully in the next episode I can give you a email address for all your questions and stuff. ⁓ make sure, do us a favor. If you have any questions or comments about Herbie: Let's wrap it up. Shamus: The new and exciting podcast, make sure you send something to their mailbag. ⁓ one of the guys from their pod commented, like, man, I wish I had a mailbag. So throw ⁓ some love, man. Yeah, send some stuff to their mailbag. Yeah. It's like I said, they they review a lot of good movies and stuff. We don't always see eye to eye on some of the ratings. Herbie: Now is the time. Cobra. Shamus: I was looking for that for the set. I was looking for the movie poster so we can hang it on the wall behind us. ⁓ so but ⁓ yeah eBay. Make sure you're listening to them. Make sure you listen to Booze and Tattoos. Brett's thing, he just got back from Texas. it was like some kind of geek con or something like that. And his team excels here just got back. So make sure you listen to his pod and checking out his website. ⁓ I'm probably gonna get some ink this summer too. I might go see him. ⁓ so it's been a while. Herbie: Yeah. ⁓ What was it? Yeah, did a ink celsier. Very nice. Shamus: ⁓ might be time to get back into that. So but yeah. Yeah. Need a harpoon to do my shit. That's another thing. Another another thing I have to stop doing in your questions is a lot of people say that. They're like, dude, why do you sound like you you think you're five hundred pounds like every time I was like, You make it sound like you're the fattest dude on the planet. I'm like, No, that belongs to Jenner Anniston. Herbie: Remember, it does no belly piercings. Yeah. Ha ha ha. Shamus: She's the fattest person on the planet. I am number two. But ⁓ people are like, yeah, man, you're not fat at all. But I just it's it's funny. It's something I've always done. So, but yeah, I'm definitely not getting my belly pierced, so we don't to worry about it. Cool. All right, everybody, make sure you like, rate, and subscribe. ⁓ visit us on Instagram and Facebook. And as always, my name is Seamus. Hey. Thanks for listening. And remember, control the pet population. Get your pet spayed or neutered, because you definitely don't want cats like these motherfuckers. Herbie: Yeah. And I'm her b. Take care, everybody. Shamus: Have a good night, everybody.
