Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handel on demand from KFI AM 640.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And now, Handel on the News. Ladies and gentlemen, here's
- 0:17Speaker 1: not Bill Handel. Oh, God, so custom. What do they
- 0:22Speaker 1: call that kind of bespoke? Tailored just for me? KFI
- 0:27Speaker 1: AM 640. Excuse me. Live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Good Friday morning to you. Neil Saavedra and the Morning Crew.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Handel is out. He's on his safari with his new bride.
- 0:42Speaker 1: They're going to go to Africa. They're going to see animals.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Handel's gone before. Linz has not. So that should be
- 0:55Speaker 1: a nice treat to be gone for a couple of weeks.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But we've got you here. Tons of things to get
- 1:00Speaker 1: to per use. Amy King.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Gosh, what is today? It's Friday the 25th. Friday, September 25th.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Oh, it's Dolly Parton Day.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Is that what? Oh, yeah, it's 9 to 5, right? Yep,
- 1:16Speaker 1: 9 to 5. 9 to 5, Dolly Parton Day. But
- 1:18Speaker 1: I feel like something else is going on today. Uh...
- 1:25Speaker 1: What do you have planned today?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Well, I was thinking about jumping off a building.
- 1:30Speaker 1: That's it. That's it. We're going to go rappelling off
- 1:34Speaker 1: a building today at noon-ish.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Going over the edge for the Union Rescue Mission.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yes, and Amy's been doing a wonderful job keeping you
- 1:43Speaker 1: posted on that. URM.org slash O-T-E for over the edge.
- 1:51Speaker 1: 87 cents on the dollar. So 13 cents basically of
- 1:57Speaker 1: every dollar goes to the organization to run and everything
- 2:04Speaker 1: else goes to the people that are in need.
- 2:08Speaker 2: That's a pretty amazing number. I know that we've talked
- 2:11Speaker 2: to them before and they have had everything vetted and
- 2:15Speaker 2: they consistently rank as one of the top charities and
- 2:18Speaker 2: that kind of thing because they run a tight ship,
- 2:20Speaker 2: like you said.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah. But it's the real deal. And we'll be talking
- 2:24Speaker 1: about that throughout the day just because we are a
- 2:29Speaker 1: little behind and KFI listeners are the most charitable on
- 2:34Speaker 1: the planet. And we don't ask this lightly. They are
- 2:36Speaker 1: one of my monthly charities, as a matter of fact.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Not only have I donated to this particular event, as
- 2:45Speaker 1: has Amy. But they three years ago, I was so
- 2:49Speaker 1: impressed with them that they became one of my monthly.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I have this. So my my charity thing and it's
- 2:55Speaker 1: not like like I'm this massive philanthropist or anything. But
- 2:59Speaker 1: my basic rule is local, national and global. So you
- 3:07Speaker 1: pick one local, one national, one global charity. And I
- 3:10Speaker 1: don't care what it is. You give five dollars to each.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Just be consistent.
- 3:16Speaker 2: What's your national one?
- 3:18Speaker 1: National one is a Haiti organization that builds schools and orphanages.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Nice.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah. And then I have those that are regular. That's
- 3:32Speaker 1: called Three Angels. I was turned on to that through
- 3:36Speaker 1: Gary Hoffman and his wife. She used to be very
- 3:39Speaker 1: participatory in it. I don't know if she still is,
- 3:42Speaker 1: but I really liked it. And so they get my
- 3:45Speaker 1: national and then others. If something comes up, I'll add.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And then I give some charitable stuff that's not, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 1: it's not like tax deductible charity, like to the arts
- 3:59Speaker 1: and things like that. Very important. East L.A. has a
- 4:03Speaker 1: bunch of programs for young Latino artists and things like that. Nice.
- 4:08Speaker 1: But yeah, that's how I do it. So they were
- 4:11Speaker 1: added to local along with, you know, some military charities
- 4:16Speaker 1: and things like that. And then, you know, around the holidays,
- 4:19Speaker 1: if you find something else that pops up, then you
- 4:24Speaker 1: can add those in. Or, you know, of course, you've
- 4:27Speaker 1: got Katarina's Club and things like that. So great stuff.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But if you can do... Union Rescue Mission, if you
- 4:37Speaker 2: want to do monthly, that's great. If you want to
- 4:39Speaker 2: do one time, whatever you can give, we appreciate it. Again,
- 4:42Speaker 2: URM.org slash O-T-E for Over the Edge, which is where
- 4:49Speaker 2: Neil and I are headed today.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And I'll be bringing that up on our page so
- 4:53Speaker 1: we can give some shout outs to the people donating
- 4:55Speaker 1: today as well while we're on the air. And Amy
- 4:58Speaker 1: and I are responding to every single one of you
- 5:02Speaker 1: through the website as well. But we really appreciate that.
- 5:06Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, Amy did a wonderful interview
- 5:10Speaker 1: this week with someone who's been helped. And we'll replay
- 5:13Speaker 1: that in the 8 o'clock hour today segment.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Her name is Irene. You got to hear her story.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It's a good one.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It's insane. And it really helps. So URM for Union
- 5:24Speaker 1: Rescue Mission, URM.org. slash ote for over the edge and
- 5:29Speaker 1: you can find out all the information there if you
- 5:31Speaker 1: follow me on instagram at fork reporter at fork reporter
- 5:35Speaker 1: it's in my bio link in bio baby and you
- 5:39Speaker 1: can get all that information there if that's easier for
- 5:41Speaker 1: you but whether you donate to amy or me we're
- 5:45Speaker 1: team kfi and it all goes to the same place
- 5:48Speaker 1: mr koto how are you sir i didn't.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Have jury duty or like i didn't get chosen for
- 5:55Speaker 3: a jury so i'm good.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Yeah, you're feeling good?
- 5:58Speaker 3: I did get braided by a homeless person, though, on
- 6:01Speaker 3: the homeless note.
- 6:02Speaker 1: About your outfit?
- 6:04Speaker 3: No, I don't know what I did.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I was just walking.
- 6:07Speaker 3: At the San Bernardino Courthouse, the parking lot is across
- 6:10Speaker 3: the street, so you have to walk across.
- 6:13Speaker 1: We understood the whole story when you said San Bernardino Courthouse.
- 6:16Speaker 1: She was not happy with me being alive that day. Really?
- 6:21Speaker 1: I have some days like that.
- 6:23Speaker 3: And then I ran into another homeless man who lost
- 6:25Speaker 3: his shirt. And then was just having the longest conversation
- 6:28Speaker 3: with the tree.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So there was that. Did the tree talk back? I
- 6:32Speaker 1: think so. That's why you need a system and not
- 6:37Speaker 1: just try and throw people in a house.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:40Speaker 1: You need, there's other stuff. Are you going to make
- 6:42Speaker 1: any announcements today? Regarding? You? I don't know. I don't
- 6:49Speaker 1: have a jury duty. Is there an announcement? You tell me. Okay.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Do you know something? Yeah, I know all things.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Who's the person giggling like a girl in the background?
- 7:02Speaker 1: That would be Clay.
- 7:03Speaker 2: That's new Clay.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Oh, new Clay. Or it's Will. It's not me. Was
- 7:09Speaker 1: it old Will? The old Will? It was new Clay.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I was going to say, that was a little girly.
- 7:17Speaker 1: He looks disappointed. I bet his parents did too. Good morning,
- 7:23Speaker 1: new Clay. Good morning, Neil. Always nice to see you, sir,
- 7:28Speaker 1: with those smoky bedroom eyes. Mwah. Glad to see you.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Glad to see you live here. Get a room. I
- 7:33Speaker 1: can't get a room. Will, how are you, sir?
- 7:37Speaker 2: Good morning, sir.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I'll do the handle. I can't see you, but I'm here.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I've already gotten to see him. And, of course, the
- 7:43Speaker 1: beautiful and talented Anne. How are you? Neil. Hey, call
- 7:47Speaker 1: him out. I see him, sugar.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Oh, I love having you here.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I'm just saying, the tiniest person. You make Kona look huge.
- 7:56Speaker 1: That's how. Okay, thanks. Nothing else. She'll take that. She
- 8:01Speaker 1: adores you, and she'll take me hitting on you like that.
- 8:05Speaker 1: All right, let's get into some Handle on the News,
- 8:07Speaker 1: shall we go? I love you, Kono. I'm going to
- 8:10Speaker 1: miss you if you make an announcement. All righty. If
- 8:14Speaker 1: announcement is ever made, bastard. All right, let's do Handle
- 8:20Speaker 1: on the News lead story. Iran, I'll gladly pay you
- 8:30Speaker 1: in seven days if you give me the end of
- 8:33Speaker 1: the war. So Iran's foreign minister said yesterday that Tehran
- 8:39Speaker 1: had proposed to Washington a seven-day plan to cease hostilities,
- 8:44Speaker 1: reopen the strait, of course, and then begin comprehensive talks
- 8:49Speaker 1: on the country's nuclear program, which... At the UN, they
- 8:54Speaker 1: said they weren't going to get rid of, so I
- 8:59Speaker 1: don't know. But that's what the foreign minister told reporters,
- 9:04Speaker 1: press briefing there at the United Nations General Assembly. So
- 9:09Speaker 1: we'll have to see this MOU is what they call them.
- 9:13Speaker 1: You ever hear that? That's the Memorandum of Understanding.
- 9:19Speaker 2: That apparently they didn't understand when they read it?
- 9:21Speaker 1: No one ever understands them. Like if you work in
- 9:25Speaker 1: television or film or if you're making a pre-deal and stuff,
- 9:29Speaker 1: you always have an MOU. It's like, look at the MOU,
- 9:33Speaker 1: like corporate speak. So we'll see what comes out of
- 9:36Speaker 1: this and why the seven days as it unfolds.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Bibi comes out swinging. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has
- 9:45Speaker 2: fiercely defended his country's military campaigns in Iran, Gaza. And
- 9:49Speaker 2: around the Middle East in a speech to the U.N.
- 9:51Speaker 2: General Assembly yesterday. Now, before he started speaking, dozens of
- 9:56Speaker 2: delegates walked out. There's 193 countries. i think 70 left
- 10:01Speaker 2: as he uh took the stage he told the crowd
- 10:05Speaker 2: we're going to win we have no other choice and
- 10:08Speaker 2: then he also said it was kind of ironic that
- 10:11Speaker 2: uh All those delegates walked out. He said it was
- 10:15Speaker 2: ironic because Israel's actions against Iran helped protect many of
- 10:18Speaker 2: those countries whose delegations walked out.
- 10:22Speaker 1: It's a weird thing. Now, he says his country's actions.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I would say that it's his actions. His country isn't
- 10:29Speaker 1: completely in lockstep at this point. There are people that
- 10:34Speaker 1: have concerns what he did and what he continues to do.
- 10:40Speaker 1: We forget history, apparently. As to why Israel exists. You
- 10:46Speaker 1: heard from Amy King just moments ago that Susan Sarandon
- 10:50Speaker 1: and Hannah Einbinder. Einbinder. Einbinder. Sounds familiar.
- 10:55Speaker 2: She's from Hacks.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Oh, yes, yes, yes.
- 10:58Speaker 2: She's the writer from Hacks.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Arrested in the anti-Netanyahu protests there in New York. Apparently
- 11:06Speaker 1: hundreds were arrested there. And but that's Susan Sarandon. She
- 11:13Speaker 1: she likes the protest. So let's get in there.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Follow the money, folks. President Trump hosted Chinese President Xi
- 11:24Speaker 2: Jinping at a state dinner last night. And some other bigwigs,
- 11:31Speaker 2: big dollar donors, big dollar or people who stand to
- 11:35Speaker 2: win a lot with AI were there, too. They had
- 11:38Speaker 2: Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Michael Dell, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, NVIDIA's
- 11:44Speaker 2: CEO Jensen Wang, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, ex-CEO of Apple
- 11:50Speaker 2: Tim Cook, Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Jeff Yates with Susquehanna, which holds a substantial stake in ByteDance.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Let's see. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. And President Greg Brockman
- 12:10Speaker 2: also going to be there.
- 12:12Speaker 1: These are all the people that know everything about you. Like,
- 12:16Speaker 1: wouldn't you stand in front of them feeling naked? They
- 12:20Speaker 1: know what you search. They know what you watch. I'm
- 12:24Speaker 1: looking at you, Kono. They know all these things about you.
- 12:29Speaker 2: You know who wasn't there? Who? Anthropic CEO Daria Amadei. Amadei.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 12:36Speaker 2: He's the one who said, you know what, we need
- 12:37Speaker 2: to slow this down.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Well, wait, wasn't that, didn't he leave Anthropic? And he
- 12:45Speaker 1: said that afterwards? Or am I getting confused? No, no, no.
- 12:48Speaker 2: There was a guy who worked at one of the AIs.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And he had been there for four months. And he's
- 12:53Speaker 2: the one who said, hey, there's a 10% chance that
- 12:56Speaker 2: AI is going to destroy humanity. That wasn't the owner
- 13:01Speaker 2: of it.
- 13:03Speaker 1: So you're saying there's a chance.
- 13:04Speaker 2: There's a chance. All right.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Senate Republicans just yesterday blocked a Democratic effort to end
- 13:09Speaker 1: the U.S. war in Iran, voting down a House-passed war
- 13:13Speaker 1: powers resolution as the conflict that has killed 19 American
- 13:18Speaker 1: service members past the 200-day mark. These things, I mean,
- 13:23Speaker 1: as quickly as time seems to be going by, you
- 13:27Speaker 1: look at some of these conflicts and it's like, holy smack.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I mean, you know, we're– going into two thirds of
- 13:35Speaker 1: a year, almost a little over half a year, I suppose.
- 13:38Speaker 1: But the measure which passed the House last week with
- 13:43Speaker 1: bipartisan support just failed there in the Senate by a
- 13:47Speaker 1: 49 to 50 vote. Want one more? Sure.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Give those ballots back. The California Supreme Court has ordered
- 13:59Speaker 2: Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco To immediately hand over all
- 14:06Speaker 2: remaining materials.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Was he doing an investigation or did he declare an
- 14:10Speaker 1: investigation and just hold like 40,000 plus?
- 14:13Speaker 2: He seized 650,000 ballots after getting a complaint that there
- 14:18Speaker 2: may have been irregularities with the last election that was
- 14:21Speaker 2: over Prop 50, which was the redistricting issue. So he
- 14:25Speaker 2: had a hold of those votes and said he was
- 14:27Speaker 2: going to do an investigation. And along the way, he's
- 14:29Speaker 2: been ordered to stop the investigation. And yesterday, the Supreme
- 14:32Speaker 2: Court said, The California Supreme Court said, we hold that
- 14:35Speaker 2: the seizure of the ballots was unlawful. While allegations of
- 14:39Speaker 2: election improprieties are a serious matter, our elections code contains
- 14:43Speaker 2: numerous established mechanisms for investigating and proving misconduct that do
- 14:48Speaker 2: not compromise the integrity of voted ballots, contrary to the
- 14:52Speaker 2: means employed here. So they kind of. went after him
- 14:55Speaker 2: and said, give those ballots.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Back and say, just don't don't touch anything anymore. Just
- 14:59Speaker 1: don't just leave it. Don't touch anything. And real quickly, CNN,
- 15:04Speaker 1: MS Now and Politico, all the reporters and such allowed
- 15:08Speaker 1: back into the White House after being briefly blocked. So
- 15:12Speaker 1: the judge, it came down with the order to let
- 15:15Speaker 1: them back in and they didn't right away. But I
- 15:18Speaker 1: think later in the day, they ended up doing that.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Wouldn't it be nice if all this money was going
- 15:22Speaker 2: to Union Rescue Mission instead? A federal appeals court has
- 15:26Speaker 2: rebuffed the Trump administration's efforts to say who can be
- 15:32Speaker 2: responsible for those millions of dollars of money from the
- 15:35Speaker 2: Department of Housing and Urban Development that goes to homeless programs.
- 15:40Speaker 2: The ruling frees up federal funding that had already been
- 15:44Speaker 2: approved but hadn't been distributed to homeless service organizations in L.A.
- 15:49Speaker 2: HUD had suspended LASA, the L.A. Homeless Services Authority, in June.
- 15:54Speaker 2: citing a record of mismanagement and said organizations should apply
- 15:57Speaker 2: directly to the government to get their funding. But the
- 16:01Speaker 2: court said, nope, LASA can have it. Wow.
- 16:08Speaker 1: That whole all of that to me is insane. That
- 16:11Speaker 1: that way, the not. Being accountable. You know, people ask,
- 16:18Speaker 1: you know, on the Jesus show all the time, they'll
- 16:21Speaker 1: call in and ask about church recommendations and stuff. And
- 16:25Speaker 1: the one thing that's said on the program all the
- 16:27Speaker 1: time is never go to a church that doesn't at
- 16:30Speaker 1: least once a year open up their books to the parish.
- 16:34Speaker 1: So you can see where everything is spent. And I
- 16:36Speaker 1: wish there was something like that, that we, the people
- 16:41Speaker 1: could look at that was organized and easy and all
- 16:45Speaker 1: of that. But that, yeah, a shame. And you know what?
- 16:49Speaker 1: The inside safe, Mayor Bass's inside safe, I think 60% stay,
- 16:56Speaker 1: something like that, the percentage. And they went to URM,
- 17:02Speaker 1: Union Rescue Mission, to help with, they gave some money
- 17:06Speaker 1: for a portion of that. And Union Rescue Mission, I think,
- 17:11Speaker 1: is over 80%. Because of the way they go through
- 17:15Speaker 1: the process of teaching people a new.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Job and they get you into rehab if you need it.
- 17:22Speaker 2: They give you counseling so you can figure out what
- 17:24Speaker 2: cycles you're you know, what things are you doing that's
- 17:27Speaker 2: exacerbating this issue? Yeah. And training, education, all kinds.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Of get you back in the world, by the way.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Someone asked about the donations because we're knocking on the
- 17:36Speaker 1: door of 20,000 and we're trying to hit 30,000 is
- 17:38Speaker 1: our goal. Underneath them, the Union Rescue Mission for the
- 17:43Speaker 1: Over the Edge is trying to raise 1.9 million. So
- 17:48Speaker 1: people were asking, wait, it looks like you've got two
- 17:50Speaker 1: different numbers there. No, they've raised 1.3 million for the
- 17:56Speaker 1: Over the Edge and they're trying to raise almost 2 million.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Our portion of that is 30,000 and we're at just
- 18:04Speaker 1: knocking on the door of 20,000. And we appreciate your help.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Rebecca Curry donated. Hi, Rebecca. That's very nice of you.
- 18:11Speaker 1: 25 bucks. Penelope McMillan. I donated a hundred bucks. Also very,
- 18:16Speaker 1: very kind of you. Kate Sixel donated $ 250. Thank you
- 18:21Speaker 1: so much.
- 18:21Speaker 2: And did you see what she said?
- 18:22Speaker 1: Amy and Neil, thank you for going over the edge
- 18:25Speaker 1: for such a worthy cause. Don't look down.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Oh, that's because I told everybody that last year you
- 18:29Speaker 2: looked down.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Oh, I did. Oh my God. Knees buckled. It was horrible.
- 18:33Speaker 1: $ 200 anonymously. Thank you, Chuck Hall. Donate 50. Thank you
- 18:39Speaker 1: guys so much. We're getting there. URM.org slash O-T-E for
- 18:46Speaker 1: over the edge. Powerful hurricane. We know this Polo, it's
- 18:51Speaker 1: drenching Mexico right now, their coast, as NOLO takes aim
- 18:55Speaker 1: at Hawaii. So we've got these two big hurricanes coming
- 19:01Speaker 1: in the Pacific.
- 19:03Speaker 2: I think Rolo's next.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Polo, Nolo and Rolo. Oh, my God. Aren't those like
- 19:10Speaker 1: those cartoon dogs? Yeah. Paw Patrol. Not Paw Patrol. The
- 19:13Speaker 1: other one. Anyways, don't shake me off. So not only
- 19:18Speaker 1: is that, but they were talking about how it might
- 19:21Speaker 1: hit us or maybe even North Northern California.
- 19:27Speaker 2: OK, so Polo isn't going to hit us, but it.
- 19:32Speaker 2: They're saying that there's a good chance that we're going
- 19:33Speaker 2: to have increased swells and beach erosion, that kind of stuff.
- 19:37Speaker 2: NOLO may be taking aim at Hawaii. And they just
- 19:43Speaker 2: had a hurricane brush by a couple weeks ago.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I can't catch a break. That's beauty tax for living
- 19:50Speaker 1: in one of the most beautiful areas in the world, apparently.
- 19:54Speaker 1: All right. Why don't we hit number 10, if you would, Amy?
- 19:57Speaker 2: We're working nine to five today. Nine to five. It's
- 20:00Speaker 2: Dolly Parton Day. There's going to be parades, pink lights,
- 20:04Speaker 2: book drives. And I love this. They're doing events at
- 20:07Speaker 2: different libraries in L.A. County. They're doing an event downtown.
- 20:13Speaker 2: And a lot of the events are focused on the
- 20:15Speaker 2: Imagination Library, which she started and has distributed millions of
- 20:21Speaker 2: books to children to help them learn to read. Because
- 20:24Speaker 2: we know that reading levels are not great. And Dolly's
- 20:27Speaker 2: been doing this for years. And then the Ferris wheel
- 20:31Speaker 2: on the Santa Monica Pier is going to light up
- 20:32Speaker 2: pink tonight in honor of Dolly.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And Tom Likas is going to be doing Flash Friday.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Do you care? You don't care?
- 20:42Speaker 2: You don't care about Dolly Parton?
- 20:44Speaker 1: I do. I was doing my Tom Likas. Flash Friday
- 20:46Speaker 1: is when you show your boobs and somebody flashes your lights.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Dolly Parton. It's kind of a shot at Tom and
- 20:54Speaker 1: the L.A. radio folks that listen for a long time
- 20:58Speaker 1: are dying right now.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Like falling off their chairs.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You got it. And more than 12,000 homeless related fires
- 21:08Speaker 1: already reported in L.A. this year. Fire crews have said
- 21:12Speaker 1: that almost 70 percent or so of the fires or no,
- 21:19Speaker 1: 77 of the fires were homeless related. And that's just
- 21:23Speaker 1: so far this year. Now, you know, we're talking about
- 21:27Speaker 1: the Union Rescue Mission. And one of the pet peeves
- 21:31Speaker 1: I have, and I know Amy shares this, is the
- 21:34Speaker 1: implication when you say the unhoused or homeless is all
- 21:38Speaker 1: they need is a home. It's not. They need to
- 21:42Speaker 1: be funneled back into society. That means they need to
- 21:46Speaker 1: get off drugs and they need to get a job
- 21:49Speaker 1: and be trained if necessary, if they don't have a skill.
- 21:52Speaker 1: And that's what Union Rescue Mission does. So this story
- 21:55Speaker 1: ties right into our frustrations with having people, feral humans
- 22:01Speaker 1: on the street is what it ends up being. And
- 22:04Speaker 1: why Nithya Raman, God forbid, if she gets elected, you'll
- 22:10Speaker 1: see more of this. And that's part of the focus
- 22:13Speaker 1: of the Democratic Socialists of America. I'll be talking a
- 22:16Speaker 1: little bit more about the DSA later on in the program.
- 22:19Speaker 1: I think you might be very surprised at to who
- 22:23Speaker 1: and what they believe and who they are. But, yeah,
- 22:27Speaker 1: that's another thing that needs to be stopped are those fires.
- 22:32Speaker 2: After three delays, we got a plea. The woman charged
- 22:35Speaker 2: with murder. In that SUV crash into a Metro bus
- 22:42Speaker 2: in Chatsworth has finally made a court appearance. She'd been
- 22:45Speaker 2: scheduled to be arraigned, but they kept having to delay
- 22:48Speaker 2: it because of her medical condition. And in fact, when
- 22:50Speaker 2: she was brought into court yesterday, she was brought there
- 22:54Speaker 2: in an ambulance and was in court on a medical gurney.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Bailey Rios is facing two second degree murder charges, driving
- 23:06Speaker 2: under the influence and also reckless driving. Police say she
- 23:12Speaker 2: was speeding, going the wrong way, ran a red light
- 23:15Speaker 2: and smashed into that Metro bus, killing two people in
- 23:18Speaker 2: Chatsworth and ultimately kind of causing the crash of the
- 23:23Speaker 2: NBC4 helicopter that killed a reporter and a pilot and
- 23:26Speaker 2: somebody on the ground.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Yeah, just an insane day, crazy situation. Maybe too little
- 23:33Speaker 1: too late, but there's this bipartisan group of congressional leaders.
- 23:36Speaker 1: They came together and officially introduced a bill to create
- 23:40Speaker 1: a federal film and television tax credit. This has been
- 23:45Speaker 1: a goal for many in Hollywood who say it's necessary
- 23:48Speaker 1: to help bring production back to the U.S. I believe
- 23:51Speaker 1: in this. I think it's a great thing, the Television
- 23:53Speaker 1: and Entertainment Revitalization Act. I think here in L.A., we've
- 23:59Speaker 1: screwed the pooch, and I fear that it's gone the
- 24:03Speaker 1: way it was forever. I think we've seen that with
- 24:07Speaker 1: Paramount just saying, hey, we're going to leave, and we'll
- 24:10Speaker 1: shut the lights off when we go. All right, one more.
- 24:14Speaker 2: There's a Barbie for everyone, and not everyone's happy about that.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Mattel has debuted its first official Hanukkah Barbie.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Oy vey.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Part of the holiday sweaters collection. It's $ 28. The Barbie has,
- 24:29Speaker 2: there's a black Barbie and a white Barbie. There's one
- 24:33Speaker 2: that's blonde. They're dressed in green and red Christmas sweaters
- 24:37Speaker 2: that light up. But then they also have the Hanukkah Barbie.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Okay.
- 24:43Speaker 2: This version has a blue sweater with a menorah on it.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Keep going.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Baby blue dreidels.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah, dreidels.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Dreidels. Yeah. And little snowflakes along with the blue stars
- 24:53Speaker 2: of David.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Keep going.
- 24:55Speaker 2: She has olive-toned skin.
- 24:56Speaker 1: That makes sense.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Babka-colored brown hair.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Sure she does.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Brown eyes.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 25:02Speaker 2: A closed smile.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Kind of a half smile.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 2: She's adorable.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 2: And here's the part that probably is making everybody freak out.
- 25:10Speaker 2: She's got a more pronounced nose.
- 25:14Speaker 1: What?
- 25:14Speaker 2: Than the noses on her Christmas cousins.
- 25:21Speaker 1: A Jewish nose?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Is this much ado about nothing? Or is it something?
- 25:29Speaker 2: Because we went to the Barbie Museum, I will tell you.
- 25:31Speaker 2: They had that big, the pop-up display, and there were
- 25:34Speaker 2: Barbies for everybody. They had all these versions that I'd
- 25:39Speaker 2: never seen. I mean, they had a prosthetic Barbie.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Did they have like, isn't Barbie just one big prosthetic?
- 25:46Speaker 1: But did they have a Mexican Barbie with like eyeliner
- 25:50Speaker 1: on the lips?
- 25:52Speaker 2: I don't know that they had that.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Did they have a little torta Barbie?
- 25:56Speaker 2: I think they had different nationalities of Barbies.
- 25:59Speaker 1: From Santana?
- 26:00Speaker 2: Different ethnicities of Barbies because they want to have the
- 26:04Speaker 2: little girls be able to have somebody who kind of
- 26:05Speaker 2: looks like them.
- 26:06Speaker 3: But why does the nose make it a Jewish? Why
- 26:08Speaker 3: can't just a regular Barbie have a big nose?
- 26:11Speaker 1: Well, yeah, because she's, you know, European, all that kind of.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Like she's like the white Anglo-Saxon. I think it was
- 26:21Speaker 1: a big misstep there, guys. She's waspy.
- 26:24Speaker 2: You think it was a big misstep?
- 26:26Speaker 1: Well, here's the deal.
- 26:27Speaker 2: No, I'm just curious.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Is it?
- 26:29Speaker 1: No.
- 26:29Speaker 2: She's adorable.
- 26:30Speaker 1: We all have different things, and I know it's a joke,
- 26:33Speaker 1: but stereotypes and jokes come from reality.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Was it meant to be a joke?
- 26:39Speaker 3: I know some Jewish ladies that don't have pronounced features
- 26:43Speaker 3: like that.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and those are the ones that they look at
- 26:45Speaker 1: and go, she doesn't look Jewish. Mazel mazel. So I
- 26:54Speaker 1: don't know. Well, Hanukkah Barbie is adorable. Yeah, I think
- 26:58Speaker 1: she's delightful looking. So I don't see it.
- 27:02Speaker 3: On a side note, have you seen the Lenny Kravitz Barbie?
- 27:05Speaker 1: It's pretty sweet. You have a Lenny Kravitz Barbie?
- 27:09Speaker 3: They just released it and I would get it. It's
- 27:10Speaker 3: Lenny Kravitz as Barbie.
- 27:12Speaker 1: It's Lenny Kravitz. Isn't he like 70 and still looks
- 27:17Speaker 1: like he's 25? Yeah, it's amazing. I want to be
- 27:20Speaker 1: Lenny Kravitz.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, there is a Lonnie Kravitz Barbie doll.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Are you going to go his way?
- 27:28Speaker 2: He's a Ken-bassador.
- 27:29Speaker 1: A what?
- 27:30Speaker 2: A Ken-bassador.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Oh my God, I thought you said something else.
- 27:34Speaker 2: What did you think?
- 27:35Speaker 1: Nothing. Let's go. Neil Cervator and the Morning Crew, stick around.
- 27:40Speaker 1: We're going to talk about journalism. That sounds boring, but
- 27:44Speaker 1: it won't be, I promise. This is KFI Heard Everywhere
- 27:46Speaker 1: on the iHeartRadio.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Oh, and he's got a six-pack.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Yes. You've been listening to The Bill Handel Show. Catch
- 27:52Speaker 1: my show Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
