- 0:12Speaker 2: by Frostburwed Corps Light Cho's Chill. Yes, Seahawks training Camp
- 0:16Speaker 2: Day twelve, Practice twelve already begun. No Jake Bobo again,
- 0:21Speaker 2: No julian Neial, the rookie cornerback, those who have been
- 0:23Speaker 2: out for about a week and a half now for
- 0:26Speaker 2: leg injuries. I'm told it was a it is a
- 0:28Speaker 2: hamstring for Jake Bobo. We'll go for Tory Harton yet again.
- 0:34Speaker 2: He's stringing in stacking days together with the starting offense.
- 0:37Speaker 2: He looks all the way back from his shin injury.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yesterday and in practice number eleven it was indoors. Some
- 0:43Speaker 2: of it because of smoke, some of it because they were
- 0:45Speaker 2: in the act walk through practice and T shirts and shorts.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Nicki Min Warry was strolling freely watching the practice. No brace,
- 0:52Speaker 2: no crutch, no scooter, just wearing his favorite Cane shoes.
- 0:55Speaker 2: They look like crocs had to ask him about that.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Video in the story is up at the news Tribute
- 1:00Speaker 2: dot Com.
- 1:01Speaker 3: My dad's not a crock eyes, so canes.
- 1:03Speaker 4: I didn't know what canes Kanes.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Those are actually really cool.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Right their post workout shoes that are they look like crocs,
- 1:10Speaker 2: So I had to ask them.
- 1:11Speaker 4: These canes, I've had them for years and now they're
- 1:14Speaker 4: a big deal. Tomorrow night, five pm. Fan fest a
- 1:17Speaker 4: lumin Field.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It's a practice, not a scrimmage or intersquad scrimmage or
- 1:21Speaker 2: anything like that, but it is a practice that a
- 1:23Speaker 2: lot more Seahawk fans can come to if you want,
- 1:25Speaker 2: get out in the Luminfield tomorrow, five o'clock. The Mariners
- 1:29Speaker 2: embarrass themselves yesterday eleven nothing lost to the Tigers. I
- 1:33Speaker 2: feel badly for the two people, the person we gave
- 1:35Speaker 2: two tickets to to go to the game yesterday.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Sorry, I mean, like I said, it's a Christin Bond.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I'm sorry, We're sorry.
- 1:44Speaker 3: It was a fun night.
- 1:48Speaker 4: A day.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I'm sorry it was a day game. But I mean,
- 1:51Speaker 3: like I was saying, they're trying to make it fun,
- 1:53Speaker 3: but that was not a fun game.
- 1:55Speaker 4: That's not fun.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yeah, Victor, Hey, Christian Bond got the ticket. You got
- 2:00Speaker 2: to see outfitter Victor roblaz pitch.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I mean, that's unique.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Said.
- 2:06Speaker 2: The EM's got outscored nineteen to zero in their two
- 2:10Speaker 2: losses in the three home games in Detroit. The only
- 2:12Speaker 2: Reds they scored guess what, were by home runs. They
- 2:14Speaker 2: don't hit home runs, they don't score. They don't win.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Can't score, don't win. Kind of an easy combination there.
- 2:20Speaker 2: If you can can't score runs, you're gonna lose. Mariners
- 2:23Speaker 2: are three games out of first place in the AOS
- 2:25Speaker 2: remarkably were there are four games under five hundred in
- 2:28Speaker 2: a division. Were just two games over equals first place.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Tampa Bay, America leagu's best team at twenty two games over,
- 2:35Speaker 2: gets coming in town tonight. That's good news. They play
- 2:37Speaker 2: at the Yard. Logan Gilbert starts for the MS and
- 2:40Speaker 2: Night Drew Rasmussen is ten and five with an E
- 2:43Speaker 2: ra Inder three starts with the Rays alumni home run
- 2:45Speaker 2: derby tonight fiftieth anniversary celebration Tomorrow night. When George Kirby
- 2:49Speaker 2: starts for the Mariners. Oh yeah, it's Jimmy another Jimothy
- 2:53Speaker 2: Knight tonight. Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 3: People are kind of with you on that one. I'm
- 2:58Speaker 3: dead ass.
- 2:59Speaker 4: They Yeah.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Nineteen nothing man bears head coach Ben Johnson on the
- 3:05Speaker 2: report in eight to ten week window for Kobe Bryant
- 3:09Speaker 2: to return to the Bears. Quote, I don't know where
- 3:11Speaker 2: you guys got that hasn't been said here. I'll let
- 3:13Speaker 2: you guys know whenever for sure what it looks like
- 3:15Speaker 2: for him. Johnson said, the Beards are still in the
- 3:17Speaker 2: information gathering steams reguarding the injury for the former Seahawks
- 3:21Speaker 2: starting safety. First NFL preseason game was last night, the
- 3:23Speaker 2: Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, near my hometown.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Dave Canales is Carolina Panthers one on the final play.
- 3:29Speaker 2: The Lions have given Jamir Grit Gibbs a three year
- 3:33Speaker 2: extension worth sixty seven point five million that makes him
- 3:35Speaker 2: the highest paid running back in the league. Rams coach
- 3:38Speaker 2: Sean McVay said Aaron Donald and his latest workout with
- 3:41Speaker 2: the team quote looked outstanding. I remember we talked with
- 3:44Speaker 2: Farhan Lawsy of TSN Canada, our buddy in La yesterday
- 3:48Speaker 2: about watching Aurone Donald working out the Sounders. Sunday twelve
- 3:51Speaker 2: thirty at Lumenfield, they had their second League's Cups match.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It's against Carotero of Lega MX and now on with
- 3:58Speaker 2: the Friday Show.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Twelve.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Practice of seaok training camp has already started here in Renting.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Not as much smoke today.
- 4:05Speaker 4: It's a little more blue sky now, really kind of
- 4:07Speaker 4: lifted it. It's not so bad out here.
- 4:11Speaker 2: The Seahawks are starting the beginning of practice. How it
- 4:14Speaker 2: works is they do calisthenics. If we've never never come
- 4:17Speaker 2: out to training camp, they do stretching kylisthenics. They didn't
- 4:20Speaker 2: do a special teams portion of practice, where the guys
- 4:23Speaker 2: like the defensive line and the offensive line of the
- 4:25Speaker 2: quarterbacks who don't play special teams go on side fields
- 4:28Speaker 2: and work on individual stuff, but the bulk of the
- 4:31Speaker 2: team spends about twenty twenty five minutes on special teams,
- 4:34Speaker 2: kick coverage, one on one gunner type drills in the
- 4:37Speaker 2: open field, angles toward punt and kickoff returners, fielding kickoff
- 4:41Speaker 2: and punt returns, those kind of things. Tory Harton's been
- 4:45Speaker 2: back doing some of that as well, and he's on track.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Like I said, he he has only this one practice
- 4:51Speaker 2: of the first twelve. He's back out there today. It's
- 4:55Speaker 2: a good sign for him from his shin injury and
- 4:57Speaker 2: the surgery in February to put a metal rod in
- 5:00Speaker 2: his gym. Then after the first special team's portion of practice,
- 5:04Speaker 2: they break into group drills and position drills. Position drills
- 5:09Speaker 2: that become group drills of offense running offense and defense
- 5:12Speaker 2: running defense, and then about halfway through practice they come
- 5:15Speaker 2: together and they do eleven on eleven in varying periods,
- 5:18Speaker 2: red zone, special situation, short yardage, long diss hurry up.
- 5:23Speaker 4: All of that, and then they do that in varying pace.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Mike McDonald paces that.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Sometimes it's eleven eleven scrimmages, it's like a football game,
- 5:31Speaker 2: and sometimes it is in walk through tempo. Sometimes it's
- 5:34Speaker 2: in thud temple, which is like a half jog. He
- 5:37Speaker 2: does mix that up. He mixes up special situations, sudden change.
- 5:40Speaker 2: He'll just yell out interception first and ten going in
- 5:43Speaker 2: no timeouts, fifty seconds and then they go. And that's
- 5:46Speaker 2: how the Seahawks almost every practice goes. And he's been
- 5:49Speaker 2: going almost three hours this week for practices, and a
- 5:53Speaker 2: lot of it's been learning at walk mode. They're still
- 5:55Speaker 2: installing quite a bit. When I asked the offense, new
- 5:58Speaker 2: offensive coordinator of Brian Flurry this week how much they've installed,
- 6:01Speaker 2: he said, we just put the base stuff in and
- 6:03Speaker 2: we've got a lot to put in still with the deeper,
- 6:07Speaker 2: finer parts of the playbook.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Craig, I have a question for you and the time
- 6:11Speaker 5: that you have been covering this team, which has been
- 6:13Speaker 5: quite a while.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I am just yeah, yeah, it's been a while. I
- 6:19Speaker 3: am not going to aid you.
- 6:20Speaker 6: On that one.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Just wondering how important that is, you know, when they
- 6:25Speaker 5: do like yesterday was an ATC day, and how important
- 6:29Speaker 5: it is to like basically walk before you run before
- 6:33Speaker 5: you get physical, learning the playbook and learning the installations.
- 6:36Speaker 5: I always thought that that was the most important thing.
- 6:39Speaker 5: And then you start to hit.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Spoken like a football coach's daughter. Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 2: That The way the theory is, and McDonald subscribes to
- 6:48Speaker 2: it is have them think early in training camp at
- 6:51Speaker 2: a walks pace so they can think through what they're
- 6:53Speaker 2: doing and do it correctly, so that when they actually
- 6:56Speaker 2: do it during the season thinking and they do it
- 6:59Speaker 2: even in the pre they're not thinking, they can do
- 7:01Speaker 2: it at a fast paced Athletes that are slow are
- 7:04Speaker 2: the ones that are thinking. The ones that aren't thinking
- 7:07Speaker 2: play freely and naturally in their athletic ability comes out.
- 7:11Speaker 2: So he he doesn't want them to rush through or
- 7:13Speaker 2: run through the new stuff, because then he won't get it,
- 7:16Speaker 2: won't be right. He wants them to do it right
- 7:18Speaker 2: from the start, rather than bumping into walls as they
- 7:22Speaker 2: learn it. That's why he has them go through walking.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Some coaches want them to go. Some coaches want players
- 7:27Speaker 2: to feel it full go right away so they can
- 7:30Speaker 2: take it from the whiteboard in the film room straight
- 7:32Speaker 2: onto the field and feel it.
- 7:33Speaker 4: It feels like real speed. McDonald's not that way he
- 7:37Speaker 4: wants them to be.
- 7:38Speaker 2: He's so precise on trying to get it right the
- 7:40Speaker 2: first time and get muscle memory to it that he
- 7:43Speaker 2: hasn't literally walk through the new parts. And if you
- 7:46Speaker 2: ever come out to training camp and you say, why
- 7:48Speaker 2: are they doing eleven on eleven walking through these plays?
- 7:51Speaker 4: That's why.
- 7:51Speaker 2: That's when you know those are the new plays that
- 7:54Speaker 2: they're putting in for the day or the week. It's
- 7:56Speaker 2: the philosophy and not saying one's right or wrong, but
- 7:58Speaker 2: it's definitely the way Mike McDonald has approached it is
- 8:01Speaker 2: to walk during the learning parts.
- 8:03Speaker 4: And that's why the practice is kind of ebb and
- 8:05Speaker 4: flow and pace.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Yeah, one of the things I was going to bring
- 8:07Speaker 5: up because I've covered college football for so long, is
- 8:10Speaker 5: that certain guys have old the athletic gifts and because
- 8:14Speaker 5: they couldn't learn the playbook, they didn't make it right.
- 8:17Speaker 3: And it's a huge part of it.
- 8:19Speaker 5: So I know that we kind of joke about them
- 8:21Speaker 5: being out there in shorts and T shirts and everything,
- 8:23Speaker 5: but it's a critical part.
- 8:25Speaker 3: The learning part on the field is absolutely huge.
- 8:28Speaker 5: You could be the most gifted guy in the world,
- 8:30Speaker 5: but if you don't know what you're supposed to be
- 8:32Speaker 5: doing and there's a reason for what you're supposed to
- 8:35Speaker 5: be doing, then you're just not going to make it
- 8:37Speaker 5: and you're not going to be successful exactly.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And when we say act practice, Mike McDonald's term for alignment, communication,
- 8:44Speaker 2: and technique for each of the players on every play,
- 8:47Speaker 2: and he wants them to get all of that fundamentally
- 8:49Speaker 2: sound before he layers on top of it all the
- 8:51Speaker 2: other things he wants his defense and offense to do.
- 8:54Speaker 2: And he throws act practices in even during the season.
- 8:58Speaker 2: They'll throw them in on maybe a Wednesday after a
- 9:00Speaker 2: game between games. Uh, It's something that he's picked up
- 9:04Speaker 2: along the way from John Harbaugh, this coach and mentor
- 9:07Speaker 2: with the Baltimore Ravens. Every weekday ten am to six

- 9:33Speaker 2: not gonna spell it Becausejus doesn't like when I say
- 9:34Speaker 2: you no.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Actually, you know what.
- 9:36Speaker 5: I wanted to bring this up because we got we
- 9:38Speaker 5: didn't have time for it yesterday, but we got a
- 9:40Speaker 5: talk back from Tony to inform me that some people
- 9:44Speaker 5: have trouble spelling.
- 9:45Speaker 3: And I was always joking about it, but it is true.
- 9:48Speaker 3: So you do to spell it out. Spell it out.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Preset no dash, p R E S E T. There
- 9:54Speaker 2: we doubt that word at nine three three kJ dot com.
- 9:57Speaker 2: See thank phoning. I'm the son of a fifth year
- 10:00Speaker 2: old veteran fifty five year veteran teacher in Ohio. She's
- 10:05Speaker 2: not ninety, but she taught for fifty five years so
- 10:07Speaker 2: maybe that's why I spell four years.
- 10:09Speaker 5: And you know what, I was remiss to acknowledge that
- 10:13Speaker 5: they can't spell cash.
- 10:16Speaker 4: They probably shuldn't earn cash, right, if ever, shouldn't win cat.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I also was just joking around, and there should be
- 10:22Speaker 5: no problem with you spelling it out.
- 10:25Speaker 4: On the show today you're hear from Tylecotta.
- 10:28Speaker 2: The starting safety looks like the air to Kobe Bryant
- 10:30Speaker 2: signing with the Chicago Bears. Course, he started eleven games
- 10:34Speaker 2: last year, most of them when Julian Love was out
- 10:36Speaker 2: with a hamstring injury for two months in the middle
- 10:38Speaker 2: of the season. Tyo Cott has had a hell of
- 10:41Speaker 2: a year this time last year. He was a fringe
- 10:44Speaker 2: player at the bottom of the roster on special teams.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Then he became a starter. Then he became a favorite
- 10:49Speaker 2: of Mike McDonald for how well he did as a starter.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Then he won a.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Super Bowl and got a ring, and then he got married.
- 10:56Speaker 2: He said, yeah, two rings in one year is a
- 10:58Speaker 2: pretty good year.
- 10:59Speaker 4: He told me that yesterday.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Oh, that's such a good quote.
- 11:01Speaker 4: I love that. I could tell you rehearsed that. He's
- 11:03Speaker 4: told more than one person that.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 5: I still like it, though, It's like if I had
- 11:08Speaker 5: that quote, if I came up with it, I'd.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Want to use it multiple times.
- 11:11Speaker 2: You're he'll you will hear Tyle gotta say that at
- 11:14Speaker 2: ten twenty five, At ten forty five, mind me what
- 11:18Speaker 2: we're doing at ten forty five, Jess, we are.
- 11:21Speaker 5: We have some interesting information coming up, just the changes
- 11:25Speaker 5: that Mike McDonald has made there, you know, the the adjustments,
- 11:30Speaker 5: I should say. And Shilkapatia had some interesting information.
- 11:34Speaker 4: That well, yeah, he used to do. That's right.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Eur Buddy Shield used to cover the Seahawks for ESPN
- 11:38Speaker 2: dot Com. He's not back in his home area of Philadelphia.
- 11:41Speaker 2: He had a statistic and loss statistic from week ten
- 11:45Speaker 2: to the twenty twenty four season.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Thanks Jessmin.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Twenty twenty four season, Week ten was a pivot point
- 11:52Speaker 2: in the history of the Seahawks and in Mike mc
- 11:54Speaker 2: McDonald's regime. We'll explain that at ten forty five. At
- 11:57Speaker 2: eleven o'clock, you're gonna hear from Dante Fowler. He's the
- 12:01Speaker 2: newest pass rusher, veteran pass rusher they signed this offseason,
- 12:05Speaker 2: thirty two years old. In his twelfth NFL training camp,
- 12:09Speaker 2: he regrets not signing last year. Obviously, he signed with
- 12:12Speaker 2: Dallas instead, and I asked him, yeah, you kind of
- 12:14Speaker 2: wish you hadn't done that.
- 12:16Speaker 4: He laughed. I thought, he, I don't know how he
- 12:18Speaker 4: would take it because I don't know him well. And
- 12:19Speaker 4: he laughed.
- 12:21Speaker 2: He said, yeah, I should have come here last year,
- 12:25Speaker 2: said he went to Dallas and they didn't go anywhere
- 12:28Speaker 2: while the Seahawks won the Super Bowl. Well, he had
- 12:30Speaker 2: a couple of recruiters on the Seahawks team that have
- 12:32Speaker 2: been trying to get him here for a couple of years.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Add And Dirty, the defensive coordinator, was his coach and
- 12:36Speaker 2: in both Atlanta and Dallas on the defensive line for
- 12:40Speaker 2: the Falcons and the Cowboys. And then DeMarcus Lawrence, the
- 12:42Speaker 2: eleven year Cowboy who signed here last year, tried to
- 12:44Speaker 2: get Fowler here last year to come with him.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Instead, he chose Dallas. And now Lawrence said, hey, you
- 12:51Speaker 4: were wrong. I was right.
- 12:53Speaker 2: You could have wont to ring with me. Want talking
- 12:54Speaker 2: about the Seattle And that's what Dante Fowler's doing here.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I saw him dropping into pass coverage and practice the
- 12:59Speaker 2: other day. That's that's not why he's here, but that's
- 13:01Speaker 2: what you do in training camp, work all the outside
- 13:04Speaker 2: linebacker drills. He's going to be a situational edge pass rusher.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Most likely you'll hear from him at eleven o'clock eleven thirty,
- 13:10Speaker 2: your text and talkbacks and the Takoma Doads text line
- 13:12Speaker 2: four nine, four or five one before the Mayor of
- 13:15Speaker 2: Maple Valley, Ian Ferness joins me right here from training camp.
- 13:18Speaker 4: He's walking around already.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Watching practice the four nine four to five one Takomad's Texas.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Also your talkbacks on the iHeartRadio Apper ninety three kJ
- 13:26Speaker 2: dot com, the red microphone, but Moredo's and Platos at
- 13:29Speaker 2: eleven thirty. My first question for the text line, what's
- 13:33Speaker 2: your level of concern about the rams adding back Aaron Donold.
- 13:37Speaker 2: It's gonna happen. He told us, yes, you'll know. Yes,
- 13:43Speaker 2: someone coming out of retirement, an All World Hall of
- 13:46Speaker 2: Fame player is not going to want to go to
- 13:47Speaker 2: practice on August the seventh's He's.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Just gonna wait be there.
- 13:51Speaker 3: And you know what, he's going to be fresh too,
- 13:54Speaker 3: when he'll be.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Years fresh, that's right, and he will not have gone
- 13:57Speaker 4: through training camp. Now.
- 13:58Speaker 2: It'll be interesting to see how much he ramps up.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I mean they got a fifteen to sixteen hour flight.
- 14:03Speaker 2: In the first game in Australia against the forty nine Ers,
- 14:06Speaker 2: Aaron Donald probably isn't going to be the number one
- 14:08Speaker 2: defensive tackle at seventy eighty percent of the snaps like
- 14:11Speaker 2: he used to be Week one against the forty nine
- 14:13Speaker 2: Ers in Australia, But he'll ramp up to that and
- 14:16Speaker 2: by the time the Seahawks see the Rams for the
- 14:18Speaker 2: first time on Christmas Night at Lumenfield, Aaron Donald'll be
- 14:22Speaker 2: in the center of everything.
- 14:23Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure of that.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Yeah, you miss no, Sorry, I just yeah, I love
- 14:27Speaker 5: that question though, Like, what's your level of concern he'll
- 14:31Speaker 5: be fresh, But how old does he now?
- 14:33Speaker 4: Thirty three, thirty four? What is he thirty three through
- 14:36Speaker 4: or four? He's been out of the league for three years.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I just it's not the same level of concern
- 14:41Speaker 5: for me personally right now as I might have had.
- 14:46Speaker 4: When he's been He's thirty five. He turned thirty five
- 14:50Speaker 4: in May.
- 14:51Speaker 2: He's being teamed a course of Miles Garrett, the defensive
- 14:53Speaker 2: Player of the Year in twenty two and a half
- 14:55Speaker 2: sacks that set an NFL record last year in Cleveland.
- 14:58Speaker 2: What's your level concern of Aaron Donald joined Miles Garrett
- 15:01Speaker 2: on top of Trent McDuffie, on top of Jalen Watson
- 15:04Speaker 2: on a revamped super team as far hum laws. He
- 15:08Speaker 2: told us yesterday, what's your level concern for the Rams?
- 15:11Speaker 4: Four nine?
- 15:12Speaker 2: One will read back to your text at eleven thirty.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Other questions that I did, the comments, of course welcomed,
- 15:16Speaker 2: including another Jimothy Knight for the Mariners.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I'm not gonna go in the same round I did yesterday.
- 15:22Speaker 5: I mean, at this point, you're just shrupping it off,
- 15:25Speaker 5: especially after what we saw yesterday.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Man, they're not just losing, just they're getting embarrassed.
- 15:31Speaker 7: The season on the line, eleven nothing and that lineup
- 15:35Speaker 7: they trot it out yesterday, No Raleigh, no nailor Triple
- 15:39Speaker 7: A guys in the lineup, Victor Roblay's pitching.
- 15:42Speaker 4: I mean, I get it. You don't want to burn
- 15:44Speaker 4: arms in an eight nothing game any nights then?
- 15:46Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I mean, like that's what you see, Like
- 15:49Speaker 5: that's that's the white flag is when you put your
- 15:51Speaker 5: position players on the mound.
- 15:54Speaker 2: But yeah, the season on the line, right after the
- 15:58Speaker 2: trade deadline, after they make the move, they get Taylor Ward,
- 16:01Speaker 2: they get a new reliever and ship out Luis Castillo,
- 16:04Speaker 2: and their first two losses after that nineteen to nothing
- 16:08Speaker 2: combined nineteen nothing on your home field against the sub
- 16:11Speaker 2: five hundred team. Next up, I told you they got
- 16:14Speaker 2: the Rays. The Rays are twenty two games over, five
- 16:17Speaker 2: out of the only good team in the American League
- 16:19Speaker 2: coming into town starting to night for three games. Then
- 16:22Speaker 2: they got to go to the Yankee Stadium, which is
- 16:24Speaker 2: never fun for them. Ever, the Yankees are in a
- 16:27Speaker 2: playoff spot currently second in the American League. East to
- 16:29Speaker 2: Tampa and then they go to the trash Cans and
- 16:32Speaker 2: play Houston. And at this point, you just hope they're
- 16:34Speaker 2: within three games before that series starts a week from today,
- 16:38Speaker 2: so that they can somehow be within striking distance a
- 16:40Speaker 2: first place before they even.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Get to Astro City.
- 16:44Speaker 2: And they got the Chicago Cubs on the schedule the
- 16:47Speaker 2: next two or three weeks. But we've seen this team
- 16:51Speaker 2: be inexplicable when beating teams they have no beaten business
- 16:54Speaker 2: beating while losing to losing teams. We've seen this happen before.
- 16:58Speaker 2: We'll see what happens tonight. Another pack tous I'm sure
- 17:00Speaker 2: because of another Jimothy Knight and Alumni home run derby
- 17:04Speaker 2: after the game. Our friend Bucky Jacobs is gonna hit
- 17:07Speaker 2: after the game. Ichiro is going to hit after the game.
- 17:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna be out the yard. I'd already planned on
- 17:11Speaker 2: going before they had scheduled another Jimothy Night. My son
- 17:14Speaker 2: and I are going to go check out.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Well, maybe you'll get a special Jimothy something.
- 17:19Speaker 6: No, I'll give it away.
- 17:21Speaker 4: You just handed to the first person I can see,
- 17:24Speaker 4: just turn to something.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not sure they had the trading card the
- 17:29Speaker 3: other night. I don't know what they're doing tonight.
- 17:32Speaker 4: I think they're doing that same ticket promotion.
- 17:34Speaker 2: If you buy and spend a little extra money, you
- 17:36Speaker 2: get a T shirt with a Jimothy's son.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Yeah, there there was the other night. I'm looking at
- 17:41Speaker 3: it right now.
- 17:42Speaker 5: If you buy those special tickets, you do get a
- 17:45Speaker 5: T shirt, that is correct.
- 17:46Speaker 3: I don't know if the cards will be out again.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Hopefully the inventory runs out and then they can't do
- 17:50Speaker 4: any more of these.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Oh, well, there is the Alumni home run derby.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yes, there is that, and then tomorrow's the huge fiftieth celebration.
- 17:58Speaker 2: They're trying to bring back as many of the top
- 18:00Speaker 2: fifty players as they can in Mariner's history. Some of
- 18:02Speaker 2: them don't live anymore, but the ones that are alive.
- 18:05Speaker 4: They're trying. They've got a pretty good turnout expected for
- 18:08Speaker 4: tomorrow nights.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I got to witness a couple of them.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Coming up.
- 18:16Speaker 2: We're gonna go back here to Seahawks training camp. You're
- 18:18Speaker 2: gonna hear from Tyocotta on what a glorious last twelve
- 18:23Speaker 2: months he's had from fringe player special team or to
- 18:26Speaker 2: Super Bowl champions starting safety in newlywaed Tyocotta is next
- 18:29Speaker 2: from Seahawks training camp on ninety three point three kJ RFN, Hi,
- 18:51Speaker 2: Welcome back to Seahawks training camp. The twelve practice of
- 18:54Speaker 2: training camp, Greg Bell, you're in renting Jesson McIntyre la
- 18:58Speaker 2: BA Studios back in Seattle on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Right in front of me, the offensive linemen are working
- 19:04Speaker 2: out with coach John Benton. There's a continuity factor there
- 19:08Speaker 2: that is huge. All five starters are returning. John Bent,
- 19:12Speaker 2: the offensive line coach, is returning. This team has had
- 19:16Speaker 2: four offensive coators in four years and three offensive line
- 19:20Speaker 2: coaches in four years. Clint Kubiak tried to take John
- 19:24Speaker 2: Bent with him to Las Vegas to be the new
- 19:26Speaker 2: Raiders coach, and Benton told me a couple of days
- 19:29Speaker 2: before the Super Bowl in San Jose, I'm.
- 19:30Speaker 4: A Seahawk, Dammit, I'm not going anywhere. He was true
- 19:33Speaker 4: to his word. Kubiak tried to get into the Raiders.
- 19:36Speaker 2: John Benton state, he got a raise, he got a
- 19:38Speaker 2: promotion to an assistant head coach title, and the offensive
- 19:42Speaker 2: lineman will tell you he's the reason that the offensive
- 19:45Speaker 2: line is returning with all five starters in tack off
- 19:47Speaker 2: of a very successful season last year after ten years
- 19:51Speaker 2: of flux on the offensive line. I'm supposed to talk
- 19:55Speaker 2: to Anthony Bradford after practice today. We'll take that interview
- 19:58Speaker 2: and you'll hear it on Monday's show. Anthony Bradford's in
- 20:01Speaker 2: a contract year, the right guard. And those of you
- 20:04Speaker 2: who were wondering if, because they drafted Bo Stevens in
- 20:07Speaker 2: the first round out of Iowa, the All American guard,
- 20:09Speaker 2: whether he would challenge Anthony Bradford, that was one of
- 20:12Speaker 2: the things I was going to look for in this
- 20:13Speaker 2: training camp. The answer is an emphatic no. Stevens is
- 20:18Speaker 2: still on the third team and Trench does a third
- 20:20Speaker 2: team right guard. He hasn't even sniffed the second team,
- 20:22Speaker 2: let alone challenge Bradford. Bradford's been the starter day one,
- 20:26Speaker 2: every snap at right guard with the first team offense.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Christian Haynes, who has failed three different times with two
- 20:33Speaker 2: regimes to win the head the right job right guard job,
- 20:36Speaker 2: has been the number two behind Anthony Bradford. You'll hear
- 20:40Speaker 2: from Anthony Bradford on the show on Monday at eleven o'clock.
- 20:44Speaker 2: You're gonna hear from Dante Fowler. He's the new veteran
- 20:47Speaker 2: edge rusher they signed in the off season, his twelfth
- 20:50Speaker 2: NFL training camp. We'll talk about why he's here and
- 20:52Speaker 2: how he wished he would have signed last year when
- 20:54Speaker 2: he had the chance to had a couple of Seahawks
- 20:56Speaker 2: recruiting him and he said no, went to Dallas. Tyle
- 20:59Speaker 2: Conna caught up with him yesterday. Starting safety has had
- 21:04Speaker 2: one hell of a twelve month period. This time last year.
- 21:07Speaker 2: As I mentioned earlier, he was a fringe player trying
- 21:10Speaker 2: to make the roster, trying to stick as a stay
- 21:12Speaker 2: on as a special teams player, which he had first
- 21:15Speaker 2: caught on with the Seahawks a couple of years ago,
- 21:18Speaker 2: and then Julian Love blows out his hamstring and misses
- 21:20Speaker 2: two months. Ocata becomes the deep safety starting for Love,
- 21:25Speaker 2: started eleven games. Kobe Bryant got hurt for a couple
- 21:27Speaker 2: of games he started for him as well. That as
- 21:31Speaker 2: well as Ocada played, including his first career interception and
- 21:34Speaker 2: huge tackles and sure tackling in the open field. That
- 21:39Speaker 2: made the Seahawks feel better about letting the Bears sign
- 21:42Speaker 2: Kobe Bryant to a huge contract and not trying to
- 21:44Speaker 2: break their budget to match it. They said, Okay, Brian,
- 21:48Speaker 2: you're gonna leave for that money, We'll just go with
- 21:50Speaker 2: ty Ocotta, And that's what happened.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Tyocotta is starting safety undisputed.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Bud Clark has been in in sub packages and Nickel
- 21:58Speaker 2: and dime, but when they're in base and they have
- 22:00Speaker 2: two safeties deep, it's Julian Love and Tyokata.
- 22:02Speaker 4: This was Tyo Katta yesterday.
- 22:05Speaker 8: Camp Field a different kind of coming to a different
- 22:07Speaker 8: role with the tests.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Yeah, a little bit.
- 22:11Speaker 9: The approach and the attention to detail is still the same,
- 22:14Speaker 9: and you're always trying to grow as a player, but
- 22:16Speaker 9: just having years in the system now trying to help
- 22:19Speaker 9: bring younger guys along at that same time, I would
- 22:21Speaker 9: say that that's probably the biggest difference so far this year.
- 22:25Speaker 4: How is that?
- 22:25Speaker 8: I mean, obviously they they've dropped a guy, signed some
- 22:28Speaker 8: free agents as well at the safety spot.
- 22:29Speaker 4: How did you kind of approach all that?
- 22:32Speaker 3: Awesome?
- 22:32Speaker 9: Just in any way that I can help them grow
- 22:34Speaker 9: as people and as players, I'm gonna I'm gonna take
- 22:37Speaker 9: that on my shoulders and try to help them in
- 22:38Speaker 9: any way that I can.
- 22:39Speaker 10: We've got a.
- 22:40Speaker 9: Great group of young dbs and they're they're like sponges.
- 22:44Speaker 9: They want to learn, and they're willing to learn anything
- 22:46Speaker 9: and everything. So any way that I can help them out,
- 22:48Speaker 9: that's just kind of my goal is to help bring
- 22:51Speaker 9: them along.
- 22:53Speaker 4: School was last year.
- 22:54Speaker 11: Life For you to take over the role he did,
- 22:57Speaker 11: have the production he did as a guy that's you
- 22:59Speaker 11: never really had to grind, go to hard.
- 23:00Speaker 10: Route and play.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it was.
- 23:02Speaker 9: It was a blessing to uh get that opportunity and
- 23:06Speaker 9: just to see that all the hard work and the
- 23:08Speaker 9: dedication all come to fruition and gain. Really the trust
- 23:11Speaker 9: of my teammates and the coaches was really special to
- 23:14Speaker 9: me because ultimately, I just want to help help us
- 23:16Speaker 9: win games in any way that I can help do that,
- 23:18Speaker 9: whether it's on special teams or defense. I just take
- 23:21Speaker 9: a lot of pride in that, And so it was
- 23:22Speaker 9: it was special.
- 23:23Speaker 4: How's married life treating you so far?
- 23:25Speaker 6: Really good?
- 23:26Speaker 9: It's it's funny. We've been together now for six years,
- 23:28Speaker 9: so not much has changed. I feel like when kids
- 23:32Speaker 9: come into the picture, that's maybe when it becomes a
- 23:34Speaker 9: little bit different.
- 23:34Speaker 10: But it's been great so far.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Pretty big year for your life on So have you
- 23:39Speaker 4: taking stock of the last twelve.
- 23:40Speaker 12: Months, Yeah, no doubt.
- 23:42Speaker 9: I keep making the joke two rings in a year
- 23:45Speaker 9: is not too bad. So it's it's been it's been
- 23:47Speaker 9: a special year.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Your first interception and the I guess you had one
- 23:51Speaker 2: of the Green Bay preseason year, but your first regular
- 23:53Speaker 2: season interception.
- 23:54Speaker 6: What was that like and what do you remember about
- 23:56Speaker 6: that play?
- 23:57Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 23:57Speaker 9: First of all, shout out to the rush. Spoon did
- 23:59Speaker 9: a great job hitting the blitz fast. Our front got
- 24:02Speaker 9: the pressure and so forcing Jayden to get it out
- 24:04Speaker 9: of his hands and kind of you know, he was
- 24:06Speaker 9: just trying to get rid of the ball and then
- 24:08Speaker 9: being able to take advantage of that opportunity was really special.
- 24:10Speaker 3: But shout out to those guys.
- 24:12Speaker 9: They really help make that play come to life.
- 24:17Speaker 8: Today for this kind of came. You know, you guys
- 24:18Speaker 8: are just doing the walk throughs and stuff. How big
- 24:20Speaker 8: are those days? You know to like take the easy days,
- 24:22Speaker 8: but like they're learning days in your mind.
- 24:24Speaker 9: Yeah, coach hits on this a lot, and it's really
- 24:27Speaker 9: just like taking pride in everything that we do, every
- 24:29Speaker 9: single step, whatever moment that is in front of us,
- 24:32Speaker 9: taking full advantage of it. Those are reps like today
- 24:34Speaker 9: in an act practice where it's walked through speed, those
- 24:37Speaker 9: are those are real. Those are real reps, whether you're
- 24:40Speaker 9: visualizing it, whether you're getting to see it. And a
- 24:41Speaker 9: walk through temple like those are those are reps that
- 24:44Speaker 9: you you get to see and it's not taxing on
- 24:46Speaker 9: your body, but mentally, if you're challenging yourself and trying
- 24:49Speaker 9: to take full advantage of it, it really it helps tremendously.
- 24:53Speaker 8: It was a nice to be indoors better than out
- 24:54Speaker 8: there with all that smoke.
- 24:55Speaker 9: Yeah, it's funny though it seems like there's still a
- 24:57Speaker 9: little bit of smoke in here for sure, But no
- 24:59Speaker 9: doubt it.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Will be the same atmospheres the last time you guys
- 25:02Speaker 2: were there, but getting a looming field on Saturday going
- 25:04Speaker 2: through that, and I'd love to be.
- 25:05Speaker 10: Kind of fun.
- 25:06Speaker 9: Yeah, it's always exciting to get in front of some
- 25:08Speaker 9: more twelves. I know that they're always out at practice,
- 25:10Speaker 9: which is awesome, and you feel the love and support.
- 25:12Speaker 9: Loom's a bit bigger, so you can fit some more
- 25:14Speaker 9: fans in there, which is really fun and just that excitement.
- 25:17Speaker 9: I'm excited for the young guys to kind of get
- 25:18Speaker 9: a feeling for that too. I remember when I first
- 25:20Speaker 9: came in that was our first real opportunity to play
- 25:23Speaker 9: in front of a decent sized crowd and just working
- 25:25Speaker 9: on our communication on defense and how we're getting to
- 25:28Speaker 9: adjustments with fans there in a little bit of crowd noise.
- 25:30Speaker 9: So those are always great opportunities to just sharpen our sword.
- 25:33Speaker 4: With the secondary, it seems like we have a lot
- 25:35Speaker 4: of really I just count guys.
- 25:37Speaker 6: To put some players that can do different things.
- 25:39Speaker 4: How much is that excite you get. There's a lot
- 25:40Speaker 4: of different things Mike mccollogy can.
- 25:42Speaker 6: Do on the back.
- 25:43Speaker 9: Yeah, it's it's always super exciting and it's just about
- 25:47Speaker 9: the guys out there owning their role and whatever your
- 25:50Speaker 9: role is, understanding it, doing it to your best ability.
- 25:52Speaker 9: It's really fun when you have such versatile guys that
- 25:56Speaker 9: can do a lot of different things in this defense.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Ty Oconna talking yesterday following I walked through practice. He's
- 26:08Speaker 2: back on the field today the twelfth practice of Seahawks
- 26:10Speaker 2: training camp. Is the starting safety back with Julian Love.
- 26:14Speaker 2: What's Bud Clark doing well? He is in some sub
- 26:16Speaker 2: packages this week. He's been doing a little more nickel
- 26:19Speaker 2: and dime. He was getting a little bit of a
- 26:21Speaker 2: run at the beginning of the week in even Worri's
- 26:24Speaker 2: hybrid big nickel linebacker spot when they go sub packages.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Less so of that the last couple of days. I've
- 26:30Speaker 2: seen d Anthony Bell doing more of that like he
- 26:32Speaker 2: was at the starter camp. But Bud Clark's in the
- 26:36Speaker 2: apprentice stage. Mike McDonald and Adam Dirty, the defensive quarters
- 26:39Speaker 2: said they are fire hosing him and giving him everything
- 26:42Speaker 2: he can try to handle mentally on the field in
- 26:45Speaker 2: different roles, just like they did with Nick even Wore
- 26:48Speaker 2: this time last year. The impression I got is that
- 26:51Speaker 2: Clark hasn't hasn't mastered every single thing they throw at
- 26:56Speaker 2: him as quickly as even Worried did. But Emon Worri
- 26:58Speaker 2: was supernatural in doing that last year. That's why he
- 27:01Speaker 2: was so good during the season and so dynamic because
- 27:04Speaker 2: nothing that McDonald threw at him he didn't master. Kark
- 27:07Speaker 2: is still swimming a little bit, and that's what Mike
- 27:09Speaker 2: McDonald said. He's not mistake free. There's things he's got
- 27:12Speaker 2: to learn, but his effort, his attitude, all of that
- 27:14Speaker 2: is great. Everything that they hoped the second round draft
- 27:17Speaker 2: pick from TCU to B. But what's not annoying him
- 27:21Speaker 2: as the new nick even worry just yet. He's still
- 27:24Speaker 2: swimming and learning his assignments.
- 27:26Speaker 5: But yeah, that depth that he adds, I mean, that's
- 27:30Speaker 5: the biggest thing that I look at exactly.
- 27:33Speaker 2: And you always need extras, always need more guys, especially
- 27:37Speaker 2: the way McDonald's like the substitute and change and sub
- 27:40Speaker 2: packages and versatility of guys in multiple positions, all of that.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Bud Clark has been doing that out here too in
- 27:47Speaker 2: training camp. But Tyo Katta is still entrenched as the starter.
- 27:51Speaker 2: This is his first full season is starting. He HEARDing
- 27:53Speaker 2: me ask him about getting married. He got married just
- 27:56Speaker 2: a few weeks before training camp.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Congratulations.
- 28:01Speaker 4: It's a life altering year, isn't it. It is?
- 28:04Speaker 5: And I feel like a lot of these guys who
- 28:05Speaker 5: come through here do actually go through that. I mean,
- 28:10Speaker 5: and I think professional athletes in general, like I think
- 28:12Speaker 5: we saw five different Mariners have babies within a year
- 28:16Speaker 5: of each other. And not that they have babies, their
- 28:19Speaker 5: wives had babies, you know what I mean. But yeah,
- 28:24Speaker 5: it is life altering at such a young age, and
- 28:27Speaker 5: I'm just really happy for people when they do it.
- 28:30Speaker 2: It also speaks to how young the team still is
- 28:32Speaker 2: that most of their players are still twenty five to
- 28:35Speaker 2: thirty years old. I mean even Sam Darnold, who also
- 28:38Speaker 2: got married this offseason. He's twenty nine, just turned twenty
- 28:42Speaker 2: nine this spring. Yeah, and Ernest Jones is still only
- 28:46Speaker 2: twenty six, twenty seven, And they are a young, young.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Team at their core.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Yes, they have Wonder Williams at thirty two and Jared
- 28:51Speaker 2: Reed at thirty three and de Marcus Lawrence at thirty
- 28:54Speaker 2: three going on thirty four, but their core guy, Devin
- 28:57Speaker 2: Witherspoon is still twenty five.
- 29:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:01Speaker 2: No, Ignanogamy was talking to us and you heard him
- 29:03Speaker 2: the other day talking about how he was blown away
- 29:08Speaker 2: by watching film of a Seahawks opponent that the Washington
- 29:11Speaker 2: Commanders and the Iganagamby were or were preparing for last year,
- 29:16Speaker 2: and he couldn't help but notice the effort and how good,
- 29:19Speaker 2: just playing good Witherspoon was. And he said, when he
- 29:23Speaker 2: got here, he sees why Witherspoon is as good as
- 29:26Speaker 2: he is in a three time Pro bowler. Throw out
- 29:28Speaker 2: the people that say, well, he only has two interceptions
- 29:31Speaker 2: in three years. The guy just jumps off tape to
- 29:34Speaker 2: an NFL player into the coaches, which is why he's
- 29:36Speaker 2: made the Pro Bowl three years in a row. But
- 29:38Speaker 2: that's a twenty eight year old, twenty nine year old,
- 29:40Speaker 2: eight year veteran talking about twenty seven, twenty five year old.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Excuse me, Devin Witherspoon. That's just example of how young
- 29:48Speaker 2: the course still is. Jackson Smith and Jigba twenty two
- 29:52Speaker 2: is the NFL Offensive Player of the Year and one
- 29:54Speaker 2: hundred and sixty eight million dollars.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Player of the Year.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Yes he was. The NFL said so in the trophy
- 30:01Speaker 4: they handed him, that's right. He never did tell me
- 30:04Speaker 4: if he gave that trophy back or not. I don't
- 30:06Speaker 4: keep it, man, I would keep it as it. Yeah,
- 30:08Speaker 4: that's what keep saying that.
- 30:10Speaker 3: I mean seriously, I would keep that.
- 30:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 30:13Speaker 3: The grandkids say I want it on both sides.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Fourne is coming on to text on him already asked
- 30:21Speaker 2: you how concerned you are about the Rams. It seems
- 30:24Speaker 2: inevitable that they're gonna add Aaron Donald to Miles Garrett.
- 30:28Speaker 2: The other question i'd ask you football NFL wise, who
- 30:32Speaker 2: are you expecting to surprise somebody that is under the
- 30:35Speaker 2: radar no one's talking about with the Seahawks, or is
- 30:37Speaker 2: a lesser known maybe along the tile cot of Vain.
- 30:41Speaker 2: But someone you're looking to have a breakout season who
- 30:44Speaker 2: is not already a Seahawks star. Four nine four five
- 30:47Speaker 2: one will be back your text at eleven three. We'll
- 30:49Speaker 2: take any input you have about the Mariners. Were you
- 30:51Speaker 2: in the bullpen yesterday ready to come in the eleven
- 30:54Speaker 2: nothing game?
- 30:55Speaker 6: I mean throwing?
- 30:58Speaker 4: Are you going out their pregame today?
- 31:00Speaker 13: No?
- 31:01Speaker 3: Not today? No, we have Mike Benton on the beach today.
- 31:05Speaker 4: Oh good, Mike will be out there.
- 31:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 5: And with all the alums who are coming back and
- 31:09Speaker 5: everything in the home run derby, I think you'll get
- 31:11Speaker 5: some great stuff and bent and I'll have it all
- 31:14Speaker 5: up on our social media at nine three to three
- 31:16Speaker 5: kjar on every single social media, there'll be plenty to
- 31:21Speaker 5: see if you can't get there.
- 31:23Speaker 2: On the Newstribune dot com right now, I wrote a
- 31:25Speaker 2: story based off our interview es today with Monterey Foster.
- 31:28Speaker 2: If you missed the interview with the substitute teacher from Cleveland,
- 31:33Speaker 2: the sketches and its stories up at the Newstribune dot com.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Wide receiver in this camp trying to make it as
- 31:38Speaker 2: a special teams player and a reserve wide receiver, and
- 31:40Speaker 2: he says in his second year from Michigan State, he
- 31:44Speaker 2: didn't go out for football until his senior year at
- 31:47Speaker 2: Edwards High School in Lakewood, just west of downtown Cleveland.
- 31:50Speaker 2: He was an all state basketball player who had two
- 31:53Speaker 2: Division one offers from Akron in Eastern Kentucky to play basketball,
- 31:56Speaker 2: and for years the head football coach there was asking
- 32:00Speaker 2: him to come out for football, and finally, after three
- 32:03Speaker 2: years of the guy began his senior year, he did,
- 32:06Speaker 2: and he made second team All Ohio in Division one,
- 32:09Speaker 2: which I can tell you was very hard to do.
- 32:11Speaker 2: I'd played Division two high school football state championship level
- 32:15Speaker 2: and played for two state titles in Ohio. The be
- 32:17Speaker 2: All State, a second team All State with one year,
- 32:19Speaker 2: only playing one year of high school.
- 32:21Speaker 4: It was really hard to do.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Michigan State was his only top offer, so he took
- 32:25Speaker 2: that in football because of course it was in the
- 32:26Speaker 2: Big Ten over his basketball offers. He stayed five years
- 32:30Speaker 2: at Michigan State, which in itself is rare in this
- 32:33Speaker 2: nil transfer portal era. The Seahawks notice that they noticed
- 32:37Speaker 2: players who stay. They've drafted a lot of players who
- 32:40Speaker 2: have stayed at their one school. Yeah, because there's relatively
- 32:43Speaker 2: few of them. They loved the loyalty piece of that.
- 32:45Speaker 2: The story of Monterrey Foster. Then he was at a
- 32:49Speaker 2: local gym, like a Planet Fitness twenty four hour fitness
- 32:51Speaker 2: type gyms in Cleveland, and then struck up a conversation
- 32:55Speaker 2: with a twenty eight year old guy and he told
- 32:58Speaker 2: him he was trying to be staying for another call
- 33:01Speaker 2: from an NFL team. He'd just been in a Seahawks
- 33:03Speaker 2: training camp, injured his hamstring last summer and was waiting
- 33:05Speaker 2: for another call. And this guy said, I could throw
- 33:08Speaker 2: to you, and Monterrey Foster's like, who are you what
- 33:12Speaker 2: he said? It was just some random guy. Just luck
- 33:15Speaker 2: that it turned out to be a former quarterback in
- 33:18Speaker 2: Mayfield High School in suburban Cleveland.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Who what Jake Dostell is his name, and I looked
- 33:24Speaker 4: him up and.
- 33:25Speaker 2: I wrote it in the story of the News Tribune
- 33:27Speaker 2: about how this random guy in the gym became the
- 33:29Speaker 2: personal quarterback for Monterey Foster to get ready, he got
- 33:33Speaker 2: a call from the Seahawks last December to be on
- 33:35Speaker 2: the practice squad, ended up being on the practice squad
- 33:37Speaker 2: through the Super Bowl. Was at the Super Bowl and
- 33:40Speaker 2: what a super Bowl ring the unlikely story of Montree.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Foster and he brought it back to his high school.
- 33:45Speaker 5: I just thought that was such a good story too,
- 33:48Speaker 5: because he didn't talk about going back to Michigan State.
- 33:50Speaker 5: He talked about going back to his high school. And
- 33:53Speaker 5: if you guys didn't hear that interview, just go to
- 33:56Speaker 5: our podcast page on nine through three KJR and just
- 33:59Speaker 5: go to on demand and you'll see the Greg Bell
- 34:01Speaker 5: show that is up there and it is just fabulous
- 34:04Speaker 5: and it's someone you know. When we've talked about this,
- 34:07Speaker 5: how the cuts have changed where we just go from
- 34:10Speaker 5: immediate however, Yeah, ninety to fifty three instead of the
- 34:15Speaker 5: seventy five man cutdown.
- 34:17Speaker 3: And so if that if you're looking for a Cinderella,
- 34:20Speaker 3: he is on my list.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Yes he is.
- 34:22Speaker 2: And yeah, so if you want someone to root for,
- 34:24Speaker 2: have a backstory for number eighty seven when you're watching
- 34:27Speaker 2: preseason games. Monty Foster junior from Saint Edwards High School
- 34:31Speaker 2: in lakewod, Ohio, had two nephews graduate from Sant EDGs.
- 34:34Speaker 2: I know all about the program there up next week
- 34:38Speaker 2: ten twenty twenty four season was a pivot point in
- 34:41Speaker 2: the history of the Seahawks and in the Mike McDonald era.
- 34:45Speaker 2: We'll explain that next live. I'm watching the eleven on
- 34:48Speaker 2: eleven scrimmages begin at the twelfth practice of Seahawks training
- 34:51Speaker 2: camp on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 35:08Speaker 4: Hi, Welcome back, Happy.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Friday, Greg Bell at the Seahawks training camp. Justin McIntyre
- 35:13Speaker 2: back at the La Bay Studios in Seattle. You can
- 35:15Speaker 2: hear in the background they typed in the recorded crowd
- 35:19Speaker 2: noise from Loomenfield, first time in training camp. They've done
- 35:22Speaker 2: that now that they've gone to eleven on eleven. There
- 35:24Speaker 2: are fans here, a lot of them, A thousand or
- 35:27Speaker 2: so from sideline end zone to end zone on the
- 35:30Speaker 2: grass burn. But yeah, the first time they put in
- 35:32Speaker 2: the crowd noise. They'll be at Loomenfield tomorrow for a
- 35:35Speaker 2: fan fest practice. This first team offense going against the
- 35:39Speaker 2: second team defense right now in front of me, eleven
- 35:42Speaker 2: on eleven. What I just saw during the break that
- 35:45Speaker 2: it only in training camp moments. Cooper Cup against Devin
- 35:48Speaker 2: Witherspoon one on one in a past drive, and it
- 35:52Speaker 2: was they're in shells and helmets. But Witherspoon jammed Cup
- 35:57Speaker 2: really hard at the line of scrimmage, and Cup put
- 35:59Speaker 2: two shoulder headfakes on him to the outside and got
- 36:03Speaker 2: inside across Witherspoon's face, caught a slant pass from Jayalen Milroad,
- 36:09Speaker 2: Sam Darnold and Drew Locke from the other end doing
- 36:12Speaker 2: a run drill.
- 36:13Speaker 4: But yeah, Witherspoon was not happy when Cup caught that
- 36:17Speaker 4: slam pass on it. He was just punching at.
- 36:19Speaker 2: The ball as the ball arrived and Cup held onto it. Yeah,
- 36:23Speaker 2: that was best on best. You're never going to see
- 36:25Speaker 2: that anymore in the regular season. Cooper Cup against Devin Witherspoon.
- 36:29Speaker 2: You'd certainly see it out here in training camp. Witherspoon
- 36:33Speaker 2: doesn't like to lose a single rep, and he is
- 36:35Speaker 2: pretty upset and he threw his head back because he's
- 36:38Speaker 2: pretty upset about giving up that one.
- 36:40Speaker 4: There was a.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Pivotal point that our friend Shield Caapadia outline statistically this
- 36:45Speaker 2: morning online. Chilkabati used to be the ESPN dot com
- 36:49Speaker 2: beat writer for the Seahawks. I became a friend of
- 36:51Speaker 2: his during that time when he was out here in
- 36:53Speaker 2: Seattle half a dozen years ago. So now he's back
- 36:56Speaker 2: in Philadelphia, right for the Ringer. I think he's still
- 36:59Speaker 2: with the athletic excuse me, based in Philadelphia. But in
- 37:04Speaker 2: November twenty twenty four, go back to the first season
- 37:06Speaker 2: for Mike McDonald, first one leading the Seahawks, first time
- 37:09Speaker 2: as the head coach at any level. The run defense
- 37:11Speaker 2: was absolutely terrible. They're getting dragged. They're at the bottom
- 37:14Speaker 2: of the league in run defense. Went against everything McDonald
- 37:17Speaker 2: stood for as a defensive head coach. No physicality, no
- 37:21Speaker 2: dictating toward the offense. Is reactive, not proactive, not pressing
- 37:25Speaker 2: before this absolutely trash. Can the two starting linebackers Jerome Baker,
- 37:29Speaker 2: Tyrel Dotson gone mid season rare that an NFL team
- 37:33Speaker 2: cans both they're inside starting middle linebuckers. In the middle
- 37:36Speaker 2: of the season, he got GM John Snyder to trade
- 37:38Speaker 2: for Ernest Jones to be his new middle linebacker. Since
- 37:42Speaker 2: that point, Schiocapati had pointed out that the Seahawks had
- 37:44Speaker 2: a buy in Week ten of Mike McDonald's first season
- 37:47Speaker 2: in early November, after those moves to bring in Jones
- 37:50Speaker 2: and get rid of Dotson and Baker. Since that point, Jess,
- 37:53Speaker 2: when they've gone twenty three and five.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that is a pivotal stat right there.
- 38:00Speaker 2: And only one team has beaten him by more than
- 38:01Speaker 2: four points over those twenty eight games, and they won
- 38:05Speaker 2: a Super Bowl. That's what Mike McDonald did when he
- 38:08Speaker 2: got rid of his middle linebackers and got one that
- 38:10Speaker 2: he knew could tackle, and guys would when he hit him,
- 38:13Speaker 2: they would go to the ground and I get dragged
- 38:15Speaker 2: like Terrell Dotson and Jerome Baker were getting dragged. The
- 38:19Speaker 2: Seahawks end up missing the playoffs that year. Remember that
- 38:21Speaker 2: they were ten and seven and just a couple of
- 38:23Speaker 2: years ago, I'm sure you remember that they lost on
- 38:25Speaker 2: a tiebreaker. They won the series finale to the Rams,
- 38:27Speaker 2: but they lost on a tiebreaker because the Rams had
- 38:29Speaker 2: beaten Arizona in the final seconds. The week before that
- 38:32Speaker 2: finale was the game that Gino Smith cash in like
- 38:35Speaker 2: four or five million dollars and then sent a bonuses.
- 38:39Speaker 2: It was they lost ten. They end up ten and
- 38:41Speaker 2: seven but missed the playoffs. But that season showed the players,
- 38:46Speaker 2: especially the veterans like Leonard Williams and Julian Love and
- 38:49Speaker 2: Ernest Jones, that first McDonald knew what he was doing schematically,
- 38:53Speaker 2: because let's face it, he was a thirty six year old,
- 38:56Speaker 2: first time head coach, only a couple of years younger
- 38:58Speaker 2: than some of the players, and he done it before
- 39:01Speaker 2: as a headman, and that season was a proving one
- 39:04Speaker 2: for him that these guys said, this guy knows what
- 39:06Speaker 2: he's doing. And the other thing, of course it did,
- 39:07Speaker 2: was it laid the foundation for the culture, for the
- 39:11Speaker 2: togetherness that this team has. And it all started in
- 39:14Speaker 2: week ten of the twenty twenty four season when Ernest
- 39:18Speaker 2: Jones came in. When they people ask me all the
- 39:20Speaker 2: time who I think the most valuable Seahawks are, I
- 39:23Speaker 2: say Devin Witherspoon one, Ernest Jones two. Because of how
- 39:28Speaker 2: pivotal Jones was to how McDonald wants to play defense
- 39:32Speaker 2: from a leadership aspect, it was, he's just the tip,
- 39:37Speaker 2: the quintessential Mike McDonald middle inside lineback of signal caller
- 39:42Speaker 2: to understand anything else in the traffic cop And he's
- 39:46Speaker 2: found a home here. They've givenhim a thirty three million
- 39:47Speaker 2: dollar contract to stay.
- 39:50Speaker 4: But kudos to Shield for pivoting finding the pivotal point
- 39:54Speaker 4: in the regime.
- 39:56Speaker 3: He drilled down there Greg twenty three and.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Eight weekend of twenty twenty four. Yeah, he did.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Dante Fowler saw all of that from Afar last year.
- 40:07Speaker 2: He could have signed with the Seahawks this time last year.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Odden Dirty, his former defensive line coach in Atlanta, and
- 40:12Speaker 2: Dallas tried to get him to. Marcus Lawrence's former Cowboys teammate,
- 40:16Speaker 2: tried to get Dante Fowler here to Seattle last year.
- 40:18Speaker 4: He chose Dallas instead, and he regrets that move.
- 40:21Speaker 2: You'll hear him laugh about that when I bring it
- 40:23Speaker 2: up to him yesterday, and you'll hear why Dante Fowler
- 40:26Speaker 2: decided to come this year instead. The veteran addresser in
- 40:30Speaker 2: his twelfth NFL training camp, you'll hear from him next
- 40:33Speaker 2: from Seahawks training camp in rent and your text and
- 40:36Speaker 2: talkbacks at eleven thirty will read those back then on
- 40:38Speaker 2: ninety three point three KJRFA.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports Tests Jordan ninety three
- 40:56Speaker 1: point three KJRFM Sports.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Headlines Hagmony, Happy Friday to you, Greg Bell, Jess When
- 41:03Speaker 2: McIntyre with you from Seahawks training camp and renting Headlines
- 41:06Speaker 2: about you by Frost Brewed Corps, Light Shoes Chill. Seahawks
- 41:09Speaker 2: Training Camp, Day twelve has already started the practice, the
- 41:12Speaker 2: twelve practice of camp right in front of me going
- 41:14Speaker 2: on right now. I don't see Jadarian Price, the rookie
- 41:16Speaker 2: first round pick out here today. I'll try to find
- 41:19Speaker 2: out more about that at the News Tribune and maybe
- 41:22Speaker 2: an Ian show practice eleven yesterday, Nicki MONROLLI maybe even
- 41:27Speaker 2: Worri was strolling easily.
- 41:29Speaker 4: No crutches, no.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Races, no scooters, nothing that you saw on Hard Knocks
- 41:36Speaker 2: that was taped from late July early in camp. Actually
- 41:38Speaker 2: he's two weeks removed from that. He was just wearing
- 41:41Speaker 2: his favorite cane shoes. He said what he said, canes,
- 41:44Speaker 2: and I had to look up what they were there
- 41:46Speaker 2: workout shoes. I guess they've become the rage. He said
- 41:49Speaker 2: he was on the way before. They can be popular.
- 41:51Speaker 2: By the way, my.
- 41:52Speaker 5: Nephew's obsessed with them and he's eleven, So yeah, they're
- 41:56Speaker 5: very hot.
- 41:57Speaker 4: WHI should explain what I have no idea what they
- 41:59Speaker 4: were until yesterday.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Video in the story is up at the neews Tribune
- 42:02Speaker 2: dot com of Nick even Warre looking a lot better
- 42:05Speaker 2: toward possibly playing in week one. Tomorrow night, five pm
- 42:08Speaker 2: FanFest a Luomenfield for the Seahawks thirteenth practice of camp.
- 42:11Speaker 4: It's a practice. It's not really scrimmage, but more fans
- 42:13Speaker 4: can go a since it's in the stadium. That's why
- 42:15Speaker 4: they do it.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Mariners and barrass themselves. Last yesterday afternoon eleven nothing lost
- 42:19Speaker 2: to the Tigers. Victor Roeblace, the outfitter, was pitching. EM's
- 42:23Speaker 2: got outscored nineteen to nil when the two games they
- 42:26Speaker 2: lost to the Tigers in that three game series at home.
- 42:29Speaker 2: There are three games out of first place in the
- 42:31Speaker 2: AL West, four games under five hundred. Tonight, Tampa Bay
- 42:35Speaker 2: comes into town, the American League's best team twenty two
- 42:38Speaker 2: games over five hundred. Logan Gilbert starts for the Mariners,
- 42:40Speaker 2: Drew Rasmussen for the Rays. Rasts is ten and five
- 42:43Speaker 2: with the Era and the three alumni home run derby
- 42:46Speaker 2: Tonight fiftieth anniversary celebration tomorrow night when the Mariners start
- 42:50Speaker 2: George Kirby. Bear's head coach Ben Johnson said they reported
- 42:54Speaker 2: eight to ten week window recovery for Kobe Bryant left
- 42:57Speaker 2: knee injury. Bear's camp, I don't know where you guys
- 42:59Speaker 2: got that at the head coach Chicago said, hasn't been
- 43:02Speaker 2: said here. I'll let you guys know whenever we know
- 43:04Speaker 2: for sure what it looks like. Johnson stated the team
- 43:06Speaker 2: is still in the information gathering stage about Bryant's injury.
- 43:10Speaker 2: The former Seahawks starting safety. Of course, first NFL preseason
- 43:13Speaker 2: game was last night Hall of Fame game in Canton.
- 43:15Speaker 2: Dave Canalis's Carolina Panthers won on the final play. Jamier
- 43:19Speaker 2: Gibbs is now the highest paid running back of the NFL.
- 43:21Speaker 2: The Lions gave him a three year extension for sixty
- 43:24Speaker 2: seven and a half million dollars. Rams coach Sean McVay said,
- 43:27Speaker 2: Aaron Donald and his latest workout of the team quote
- 43:29Speaker 2: looked out standing.
- 43:30Speaker 4: You heard on our show.
- 43:31Speaker 2: Yesterday, far On Lawsy of TSN Canada from Rams camp saying, yep,
- 43:34Speaker 2: Donald's going to sign.
- 43:35Speaker 4: It's no matter when it's not going to be early.
- 43:37Speaker 2: In camp and the Sounders get back to Liga MX
- 43:42Speaker 2: versus MLS play in the League's Cup on Sunday at
- 43:44Speaker 2: twelve thirty after te Luca torched him three and nothing.
- 43:47Speaker 2: The other night, Sounders have a game a Matt Sunday
- 43:50Speaker 2: twelve thirty at Lumenfield against Caro Touro. Dante Fowler is
- 44:03Speaker 2: the newest of what Mike McDonald cannot get enough of
- 44:06Speaker 2: in Seahawks training camping with his roster that's veteran edge rushers.
- 44:10Speaker 2: He stockpiles him. He wants to stockpile him. He kept
- 44:13Speaker 2: Darren Hall, gave him a forty two million dollar contract.
- 44:16Speaker 4: He's got the Marcus Lawrence. He moves Leonard Williams out there.
- 44:18Speaker 2: You'll see Byron Murphy on the edge a little more
- 44:20Speaker 2: this year after his seven and a half SAX season,
- 44:23Speaker 2: and now you'll see Dante Fowler in his twelfth NFL season,
- 44:28Speaker 2: is the newest edge rusher. Thirty two years old, played
- 44:32Speaker 2: for Ad and Dirty in Atlanta. He was a defensive
- 44:35Speaker 2: line coach the Falcons when Fowler was there. He also
- 44:38Speaker 2: played in Dallas for Dirty. He played in Dallas with
- 44:41Speaker 2: the Marcus Lawrence. Dirty and Lawrence tried to get Dante
- 44:45Speaker 2: Fowler here to Seattle last year.
- 44:47Speaker 4: You'll hear me ask him.
- 44:48Speaker 2: His reaction to not choosing that and choosing to go
- 44:51Speaker 2: to the Cowboys last season instead. Dante Fowler after signing
- 44:55Speaker 2: to be the newest edge rusher for the Seahawks, he
- 44:57Speaker 2: was speaking yesterday to us.
- 44:59Speaker 4: You tell us just the process of anxiety to come
- 45:02Speaker 4: to Seattle.
- 45:04Speaker 11: Basically just talking to you know, eighty the defensive coordinator,
- 45:07Speaker 11: talking to the Marcus Lawrence, being able to come out
- 45:10Speaker 11: here on a visit and visit the coaching staff, meet
- 45:13Speaker 11: coach Hans and meet CP and the coaching staff.
- 45:16Speaker 10: And I thought it was it was the right thing
- 45:18Speaker 10: to do.
- 45:19Speaker 6: What did the Marcus Moore to tell you about Seattle?
- 45:22Speaker 11: Basically that it's a great program clearly, you know, just
- 45:25Speaker 11: keeping up with him and watching how great he did
- 45:27Speaker 11: last year and of course he won in the Super
- 45:29Speaker 11: Bowl and things like that. Just being able to just
- 45:32Speaker 11: see the defense all around, you know, Leonard Williams, we
- 45:35Speaker 11: go all the way back. Jaron Reid, Brian Murphy, Ernest
- 45:40Speaker 11: Jones just a really great defense. I mean, Ernest Jones,
- 45:44Speaker 11: a really great defense just to be a part of.
- 45:46Speaker 11: So I thought it was a great thing to do.
- 45:48Speaker 3: That's one of those name.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Yourself for ten plus year in the league. Top puns are.
- 45:53Speaker 10: Being Phillis, try fratric.
- 45:55Speaker 6: You on my team and hopeful point out.
- 45:57Speaker 10: It's really fun. It's it's a dream.
- 45:59Speaker 11: I love being on great defenses, being with great defensive players,
- 46:04Speaker 11: great pros, and this is everything that defense have from
- 46:07Speaker 11: the top to the bottom. Even with the coaching staff,
- 46:10Speaker 11: the way that they'd developed the players, the way that
- 46:12Speaker 11: they coached the players is something I think is.
- 46:15Speaker 10: A football player stream.
- 46:19Speaker 5: Guys out there.
- 46:20Speaker 10: Yeah, we bonding and of course, you know, we go
- 46:22Speaker 10: all the way back.
- 46:23Speaker 11: You know, me and Leonard Williams, we were both from
- 46:25Speaker 11: Florida and we came out in the same high school
- 46:27Speaker 11: class and we played an under armoured game together. So
- 46:29Speaker 11: we always been, you know, big fans of each other.
- 46:32Speaker 11: Been watching him since he's been at USC and stuff
- 46:34Speaker 11: like that. And you know, of course being with the
- 46:37Speaker 11: Marcus Lawrence, I feel like when I came from Atlanta
- 46:39Speaker 11: to Dallas, just him taking me on the defense wing
- 46:43Speaker 11: helped me grow a lot and was able to help
- 46:47Speaker 11: me be able to be the person that I was
- 46:50Speaker 11: in Washington and be able to take on that role
- 46:53Speaker 11: by myself. I think it was a lot that the
- 46:55Speaker 11: Marcus had to do with that, just taking taking me
- 46:58Speaker 11: out of his wing and showing me how to go
- 47:00Speaker 11: about things and stuff like that.
- 47:01Speaker 4: How much did they try to get you before a
- 47:04Speaker 4: last season.
- 47:06Speaker 11: I don't know about how much they tried to, but
- 47:08Speaker 11: you know, me and A D we had a couple
- 47:10Speaker 11: of talks and stuff like that, and you know, I
- 47:13Speaker 11: didn't end up working out, uh that way.
- 47:15Speaker 10: But I'm here now and I'm happy to be here.
- 47:17Speaker 4: Kicking itself a little bit for that choice.
- 47:21Speaker 11: Definitely for sure, but you know, still blessed and still
- 47:26Speaker 11: happy just to be uh, you know, in the league,
- 47:29Speaker 11: in the NFL. Definitely happy to be back with A
- 47:33Speaker 11: D and the Marcus and this great defense is.
- 47:35Speaker 4: What they're asking you to do really similar to what
- 47:37Speaker 4: you've got in the past, and especially what they did.
- 47:39Speaker 11: Yeah, really just you know, go out there, get after
- 47:42Speaker 11: the quarterback, put pressure on the quarterback. And if I'm
- 47:44Speaker 11: out there first and second down, be stout in the
- 47:46Speaker 11: run game. Pretty I disrespect the man he is. You know,
- 47:59Speaker 11: he got it out them. You know, he got it
- 48:01Speaker 11: out the hard way. He's from London, he's not from here.
- 48:04Speaker 11: And you know, his high his his i q of
- 48:07Speaker 11: football is just impressive. I love like his passion, his
- 48:12Speaker 11: intent of the game. The way he coaches his players,
- 48:15Speaker 11: that's what I like the most. Like he demanded something
- 48:17Speaker 11: out of his players. He's not just telling them what
- 48:20Speaker 11: like the exis and those like he's the He's going
- 48:22Speaker 11: to demand it out of you and he's going to
- 48:24Speaker 11: ask you questions and he wants you to answer it
- 48:27Speaker 11: the right way and.
- 48:27Speaker 10: Stuff like that.
- 48:28Speaker 11: So just the way, just the way that see And
- 48:39Speaker 11: that's that's why I'm happy to be here right literally
- 48:42Speaker 11: right there. But just the man that he is, and
- 48:47Speaker 11: you know, just being able to have a coach like
- 48:49Speaker 11: that to be able to teach you on and off
- 48:51Speaker 11: the field, That's something I really love about him.
- 48:53Speaker 4: Did they do anything for your birthday, Frank or anything?
- 48:58Speaker 11: No, they just shouted me out into uh, the team
- 49:01Speaker 11: meeting room. But you know, I'm getting up there, so
- 49:04Speaker 11: I kind of don't want people to know that it's
- 49:06Speaker 11: my birthday. Yeah, it was the under Armored All American Game.
- 49:12Speaker 11: It's basically all the Parade or Blue Trip All Americans.
- 49:15Speaker 11: It's like the Army Game.
- 49:17Speaker 4: Yeah, So the tough start you had to your career,
- 49:20Speaker 4: I think by and like.
- 49:23Speaker 11: Yeah, first thirty minutes of Ricky Minnie Camp, whole experience
- 49:27Speaker 11: like that. It was just a dark moment in my life.
- 49:32Speaker 11: It just sucked because I felt really good and I
- 49:36Speaker 11: really believed that I was, like my rookie year going
- 49:41Speaker 11: to like I just I believe it. I was going
- 49:43Speaker 11: to be a generational player, went rookie out of the
- 49:46Speaker 11: year all that, and all that just went like you know,
- 49:49Speaker 11: out the roof and I had to recover for nine months.
- 49:53Speaker 10: And I did that. But definitely a tough moment in
- 49:56Speaker 10: my life.
- 49:57Speaker 11: But when I look back on it, where I am
- 49:59Speaker 11: now just happy to be able to uh say that
- 50:02Speaker 11: I was that it built me and it made me
- 50:04Speaker 11: until the man I am. As far as challenge is
- 50:06Speaker 11: dealing with, you know, tough things, knowing that it's not
- 50:09Speaker 11: going to always you know, be right there and everything
- 50:11Speaker 11: is going to pass over, and uh, you know, just
- 50:14Speaker 11: staying true to myself and just putting in the works,
- 50:17Speaker 11: you know, so I can still be a football player.
- 50:19Speaker 10: What did you learn about yourself from that time that
- 50:22Speaker 10: you know.
- 50:23Speaker 11: It's going to be hard times and you can't go
- 50:25Speaker 11: around it. You got to go through it. And you know,
- 50:28Speaker 11: that's what I learned about it. Just you know, no
- 50:31Speaker 11: matter how hard time it's going to be in life,
- 50:33Speaker 11: you know, you just got to keep battling and you
- 50:35Speaker 11: got to keep going through things. If you stay true
- 50:37Speaker 11: to yourself, stay true to your mission, and you have
- 50:40Speaker 11: faith in yourself, you'll always be good at the end
- 50:42Speaker 11: of the day.
- 50:43Speaker 10: And that was just a completely fluty, non contact kind
- 50:45Speaker 10: of thing. Yeah, it was weird because basically it was
- 50:51Speaker 10: it was a weird day, Like it was something. It
- 50:53Speaker 10: was so weird.
- 50:54Speaker 11: I knew something bad was going to happen that that day,
- 50:56Speaker 11: and uh, I just remember like the coach said, something
- 50:59Speaker 11: good is going to happen to day, something's bad going
- 51:01Speaker 11: to happen to day, and I was just like, oh shit.
- 51:04Speaker 11: I just remember being out there and it literally felt
- 51:07Speaker 11: like a like a nightmare like like I was. It
- 51:09Speaker 11: felt like I was in a dream, but like it
- 51:11Speaker 11: was like a football like nightmare, you know what I mean.
- 51:14Speaker 11: And we was they was taking us through the through
- 51:19Speaker 11: the ringer with the drills. Everything was fast paced. That
- 51:22Speaker 11: was my first NFL practice and I was like super
- 51:25Speaker 11: charged up. We did like run games that went good,
- 51:28Speaker 11: and then we went in the like went right in
- 51:30Speaker 11: the passing game. I don't think we had a break.
- 51:32Speaker 11: And I just you know, went out there and tried
- 51:34Speaker 11: to like show him that I was a great pass
- 51:36Speaker 11: rusher and over extending my leg a little too much
- 51:38Speaker 11: and blew my knee out.
- 51:40Speaker 10: But we're still here today, and I thank God for that.
- 51:44Speaker 8: You're talking about like you know, a d and some
- 51:46Speaker 8: of the other guys that are here that kind of
- 51:47Speaker 8: sold you to come here. Just what else about this
- 51:50Speaker 8: region It's caught your eye, you know, being out in
- 51:51Speaker 8: the Pacific Northwest.
- 51:53Speaker 10: Dude, I love the Pacific Northwest.
- 51:55Speaker 11: Just you know, I'm a Florida Like I'm from Florida,
- 51:57Speaker 11: so like I love the beach and things like that.
- 51:59Speaker 11: But here, you guys have water, you have mountains, you
- 52:02Speaker 11: have hikes, trails. I love the weather out here. I
- 52:04Speaker 11: don't know if it got spoiled from coming out here
- 52:07Speaker 11: during the summertime, but like this is like, hands down
- 52:10Speaker 11: one of the best summers I've like had, just just
- 52:13Speaker 11: based off of the weather and stuff like that. I
- 52:15Speaker 11: know they say the winter will like show your true
- 52:18Speaker 11: colors of how you feel about Seattle. But I'm like
- 52:21Speaker 11: a gloomy type of guy, so I like love like cloudy,
- 52:24Speaker 11: overcast type of stuff. So I'm actually looking forward to
- 52:27Speaker 11: that too, and like being able to see bald eagles
- 52:30Speaker 11: and stuff like that. I saw like two bald eagles
- 52:32Speaker 11: fighting over fish in my backyard and I was just
- 52:35Speaker 11: like just amazed, like and all, just like watching two
- 52:38Speaker 11: bald eagles like fight over fish in my backyard.
- 52:40Speaker 10: I've never seen that before, so that was pretty cool.
- 52:44Speaker 8: Smoke yeat or now.
- 52:45Speaker 11: Well, I mean, I feel like that comes with like
- 52:48Speaker 11: being on like the West and stuff like that. I
- 52:50Speaker 11: lived in LA for a couple of years, so I
- 52:52Speaker 11: know how that goes.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Dante Fowler, the new veteran edge pass wresher, former Falcon,
- 53:01Speaker 2: former Cowboy, former Falcon and Cowboy under the direction of
- 53:05Speaker 2: defensive line coach add and Dirty, now.
- 53:07Speaker 4: The defensive coordinator for the Seahawks.
- 53:08Speaker 2: You heard him talk about ad ad and Dirty and
- 53:11Speaker 2: about DeMarcus Lawrence recruiting him to get here. He's not
- 53:14Speaker 2: the only one who talks about the Eagles and the
- 53:16Speaker 2: setting and the weather.
- 53:18Speaker 5: I just love the awe that people are in and
- 53:21Speaker 5: you know, some of that comes from people who are
- 53:24Speaker 5: out there every single day.
- 53:26Speaker 3: I had Rich Gonzalez come up to me a couple
- 53:27Speaker 3: of years ago, and he's out there. He's worth there
- 53:30Speaker 3: for ever, and he will.
- 53:32Speaker 5: Go there's five, there's five of them, and I just
- 53:37Speaker 5: I love that. It is just a majestic thing that
- 53:40Speaker 5: we are lucky to witness.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Not only that the weather. Dante Fowler is from Saint Petersburg, Florida.
- 53:46Speaker 2: He played for the University of Florida. He's used the
- 53:49Speaker 2: summer football training when it's ninety five degrees and ninety
- 53:53Speaker 2: percent humidity and just sweat dripping off you and you're
- 53:56Speaker 2: wet when you get out of the shower and you
- 53:58Speaker 2: stay wet all day.
- 53:59Speaker 4: That's the South in the summer.
- 54:02Speaker 2: And these SEC guys come out here and they can't
- 54:05Speaker 2: believe that we call eighty degrees hot and they have
- 54:08Speaker 2: heat advisories for eighty five and they're like, well, it's
- 54:11Speaker 2: not even humid. There's a breeze off the lake. Much
- 54:14Speaker 2: better breeze, by the way today than there has been
- 54:16Speaker 2: all week. With the smoke and the wildfires on the
- 54:18Speaker 2: eastern side of the state. But yeah, even the hot
- 54:21Speaker 2: days here at Seahawks training camp not hot to the players.
- 54:24Speaker 4: They talk about that a lot too.
- 54:27Speaker 2: They don't talk about the weather as much when it's December,
- 54:29Speaker 2: but they're playing meaningful football games by then. But yeah,
- 54:32Speaker 2: this setting, I've said it before. I've covered NAPA training camp,
- 54:37Speaker 2: the Seahawks and NAPA training camp of Cowboys and Oxnard
- 54:42Speaker 2: the forty nine ers when they were in red the
- 54:45Speaker 2: interior of Auburn and Carmichael in that area in California.
- 54:50Speaker 2: This is unique. This really is unique, and the setting
- 54:54Speaker 2: and all of it. And that's one thing that Hard
- 54:56Speaker 2: Knocks showed the other night. I thought that leading the
- 54:59Speaker 2: scene with the eagle and showing off the space needle
- 55:01Speaker 2: in the overhead shots and the drone shots along Lake Washington.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Those of us, like you said, those of us are
- 55:06Speaker 2: out here. We take it for granted. We're out here
- 55:08Speaker 2: all the time. But this is not the NFL norm
- 55:10Speaker 2: nor the American norm either. But I guess that's why
- 55:14Speaker 2: gas is six dollars a gallon and houses cost two
- 55:16Speaker 2: million dollars and all of that.
- 55:20Speaker 4: There is that four nine four one and the commodage
- 55:23Speaker 4: text on.

- 56:19Speaker 2: What I was gonna say in the text I already
- 56:20Speaker 2: asked about Aaron Donald, What do you I'm saying, you're
- 56:23Speaker 2: not concerned about Donald. He's washed up, He's thirty five.
- 56:26Speaker 2: We'll see how washed up he is. But I ask
- 56:30Speaker 2: you about who you want to see maybe under the
- 56:33Speaker 2: radar seahawk that you're expecting to have a huge season from.
- 56:36Speaker 2: I think Aj Barner stands to have a gigantic season
- 56:39Speaker 2: in this offense under a tight end coach, offensive coordinator
- 56:43Speaker 2: and Brian Flurry. Flurry was the tight ends coach the
- 56:45Speaker 2: last four years for Kyle Shanahan and the forty nine ers.
- 56:49Speaker 2: I could see, and I'm already seeing it on the
- 56:51Speaker 2: field in training camp, a George Kittle like usage of
- 56:55Speaker 2: AJ Barner. I'm not saying that Barner is as good
- 56:58Speaker 2: as Kittle is or was. I'm saying that that Fleury's
- 57:00Speaker 2: going to use him in much the same way. The
- 57:03Speaker 2: other thing I'm seeing in training camp, the use of
- 57:05Speaker 2: the tight ends further down the field of Isijah Royo,
- 57:08Speaker 2: even Eric Salbert mainly known as a blocker, special teams player, Barnard,
- 57:12Speaker 2: They're all running down the field deep. While we were
- 57:15Speaker 2: talking earlier in this show, Barner did a wheel route
- 57:17Speaker 2: that ran past Bud Clark for about a sixty yard
- 57:20Speaker 2: touchdown from Sam Donald in a ones versus two eleven
- 57:24Speaker 2: on eleven scrimmage, another vertical passing game play from a
- 57:28Speaker 2: tight end.
- 57:29Speaker 4: The other things he.
- 57:30Speaker 2: Doing with tight ends and motioned him quite a bit
- 57:32Speaker 2: right before the snap, a lot of times, putting him
- 57:34Speaker 2: on the wing and motioning him back to a full back.
- 57:37Speaker 2: We talked to Brian Fleury. I asked him, Brian Fleury
- 57:39Speaker 2: the other day the offensive coordinated about any concern with
- 57:42Speaker 2: Robbie Huts's injury, about a relative lack of depth at
- 57:45Speaker 2: running back, especially now your top fullback is out indefinitely.
- 57:49Speaker 4: He said, we'll make do with that.
- 57:50Speaker 2: We got Brady Russell, we got tight ends that can
- 57:52Speaker 2: play fullback like roles. While they're doing that, they're moving
- 57:55Speaker 2: tight ends from wings back into the backfield in motion
- 57:58Speaker 2: right before the snap. And another characteristic of this Brian
- 58:02Speaker 2: Fleury offense that's already shown up is throwing to the
- 58:05Speaker 2: running backs. They are I have been talking to you
- 58:07Speaker 2: since the beginning of camp about it, but every day
- 58:11Speaker 2: a lot of throws to the quarter from the quarterbacks
- 58:14Speaker 2: in scrimmaging in eleven on eleven in red zone and
- 58:18Speaker 2: short yardage and regular middle of the field and hurry
- 58:21Speaker 2: up throws to the running backs. The forty nine ers
- 58:24Speaker 2: with Brian Flurry as the run game coordinator in tight
- 58:27Speaker 2: ends coast last year, the forty nine Ers threw thirty
- 58:29Speaker 2: four percent of their completions to running backs. Christian McCaffrey,
- 58:33Speaker 2: of course, had one hundred and two catches last year,
- 58:35Speaker 2: top ten in the league as a running back thirty
- 58:38Speaker 2: four percent of the forty nine ers completions with the
- 58:41Speaker 2: running backs. The Seahawks had just sixteen percent of their
- 58:44Speaker 2: completions to running backs last season with Klint Kubiak, So
- 58:48Speaker 2: that's another difference in this offense, throwing to running backs more.
- 58:51Speaker 2: That should help George Hallani be a third down force.
- 58:56Speaker 2: That's one of the reasons he made the team out
- 58:57Speaker 2: of Boise State as an undrafted rookie was his work
- 59:00Speaker 2: the third down back and past catching and past blocking.
- 59:03Speaker 2: That've really been working with Jedarian Price, the rookie first
- 59:06Speaker 2: round pick, to get him up the speed to an
- 59:08Speaker 2: NFL running back level. In the past game he didn't
- 59:10Speaker 2: do much of it at Notre Dame as a backup
- 59:12Speaker 2: to Jeremiah love Price. By the way, I don't see
- 59:15Speaker 2: on the field today. In the twelfth practice and training
- 59:17Speaker 2: cap I'll try to find out where he is and
- 59:20Speaker 2: whether it's an injury issue or an excusal or what
- 59:23Speaker 2: have you.
- 59:24Speaker 4: On the twelfth practice of training camp, I'm next.
- 59:27Speaker 2: Your chance to be a part of the show. We
- 59:28Speaker 2: do it every day at eleven thirty. Jessman wants your
- 59:31Speaker 2: talkbacks so we can play them back.
- 59:33Speaker 3: I don't have any yet.
- 59:34Speaker 10: Come on.
- 59:34Speaker 5: I know you're going on your weekend vacations because it's
- 59:37Speaker 5: still the summer for some of you out there. I
- 59:40Speaker 5: know it's not for Guig anymore, but yeah, center man,
- 59:44Speaker 5: center man. You want to know the concern level of
- 59:47Speaker 5: Aaron Donald. What are you for the Mariners right now?
- 59:50Speaker 2: All Seimothy the fiftieth anniversary Chuck talked this morning about
- 59:55Speaker 2: who the worst Mariners and Mariner history were Sean Figgins.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Eric bar for me, oh yeah, I was, I was.
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: I came here after Badard, but Sean Figgins is on
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: the top of my list for sure.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Eric Baard went the very first spring training start. I
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: was covering the Mariners for the Associated Press and we
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: were down in Peoria. You go down during spring training games,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: you leave in the middle of the game and they
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: make an announcement in the press starting pitchers available in
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: the in the clubhouse right now, because then they get
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: showered and they leave during the game. And we went
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: down to talk to Eric Badard after his first spring
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: training start. He pitched three innings or whatever, and we're
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: all in there and John Hickey of the Seattle p
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: I I also covered the a's with him when he
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: was at the Oakland Tribune. I remember John Hickey.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: Remember, yeah, you know, I remember the whole thing.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Yes, but everyone Eric Badard came to all of us
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: waiting for him. He got out a shower in the
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: clubhouse at Mariner Spring training in Peory. He said, all right, y'all,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: you got five questions. And John Hickey, the Seattle p I, said,
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: WI only five, and Badard looked at him and said,
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: that's one.
- 1:00:57Speaker 12: Yep, yep.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: That was Eric Badard.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: I do understand why he would make the list.
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: And not to vettion.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: He would pull himself after out, after ninety pitches, whether
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: they were winning losing, whether it's five innings, seven eight,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: he was done.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: He was taking his checks and going home.
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: He was not into it.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: He just was not into it.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Eddie was not good either, and they spent a lot
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: to get him, including a future All Star center field
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: Do you remember that? I mean they traded a good
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: load to the Baltimore Orials to get Eric Padard as
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: their East pitcher. He was their openings a starter one year.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: And he says, how many questions there? You got five questions?
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: Mike? He says wild five And he said, that's one.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: That's one.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: That's our relationship.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: I heard he was kind of a creep too.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: He was in more ways than one. That's right, he was.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: But you can you chime in on that? Who you
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: your memories of Mariners? You'd rather forget up? Next? Your
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: chance to be part of the show that's coming.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Dowt's text line and talkbacks are coming up on ninety
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: three point three kJ RFM.
- 1:02:27Speaker 12: Hey, they're Greg and Jess. You know, between the Mariners,
- 1:02:31Speaker 12: the Sounders and the Storm, the three teams that are
- 1:02:37Speaker 12: playing right now for our city, you all suck. You
- 1:02:43Speaker 12: can't win a game, you can't rally your team.
- 1:02:48Speaker 13: What are you doing?
- 1:02:49Speaker 12: And I'm more interested in going to Loomen tomorrow, not
- 1:02:53Speaker 12: for a game. We're talking about practice.
- 1:02:56Speaker 13: Du Justin Ackley might not be the worst Mariner of
- 1:02:59Speaker 13: all time, but he gave us hope and then he
- 1:03:05Speaker 13: just just pooped it away, man like.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: He just We were all so excited.
- 1:03:10Speaker 13: We were thinking that he was gonna be a cornerstone
- 1:03:14Speaker 13: for this franchise for a decade, and then one half
- 1:03:18Speaker 13: a season he's amazing.
- 1:03:20Speaker 12: The next rest of his career, he's just garbage.
- 1:03:25Speaker 14: All right, all right, And I'm trying to sleep in
- 1:03:28Speaker 14: it's not really working, but I have this Friday off.
- 1:03:32Speaker 14: Jimothy's probably safe somewhere in western Washington, and I'm over
- 1:03:36Speaker 14: here with horrible air quality and spoken but one of
- 1:03:40Speaker 14: the worst Mariners of all time, Bobby Ayala, who else
- 1:03:45Speaker 14: we got? Well, I'm just still waiting for the Seattle
- 1:03:47Speaker 14: SuperSonics to come back, and Darien Price is gonna have
- 1:03:52Speaker 14: a big year.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: Well, thank you the late comers to the party.
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: Bobby gives me nightmares.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: I was the AP national sports writer covering the Mariners,
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: and I had to do deadline and stories that within
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: five minutes of the game ending had to be on
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: the wire. So I'm writing running every day day game
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: nig didn't matter, and the Mariners would have a lead
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: and Bobby Alla would come in and half the time
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: he'd blow the save and the story would completely flip
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: and you go from leading with the Mariners to leading
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: with the visiting team all and I'm spanning about five minutes.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: That happened so many times with Bobby Iola. That's that
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: gives me nightmares of a writer and trying to write
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: coh stories.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: There's always like that person.
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: As much as I absolutely loved Mike reach Rip and everything,
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: it was impossible. He made my job so hard and
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: we were friends too, and he made a game out
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: of it. Covering him was very difficult.
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: Made a game out of you had to chase him
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: off the field.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: Yes, he loved but like I said, how would you
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: get him? I sprinted. I did Wain sprints on the weekends,
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: just to you know, be trained. Yeah, I got.
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: I got caught on camera a couple of times doing that,
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: and people were trying to come to my defense.
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: I'm like, no, it's a chess match, Like he's always
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: playing chess and I got him every time.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: Was he running?
- 1:05:24Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: My interviews sounded like crap, by the way, because I'm like, so, Roja,
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: what was the hardest.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: On that fourth and one. What was your decision going.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: Into it for going for it? What was the hardest
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: stadium to track him down from the sideline to the
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: locker room?
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: Wells situational. It wasn't necessary.
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: Oh, there there are some where it's a very short
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: where you only have like ten feet and you're walking
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: right behind. But the hardest time I had was at Stanford,
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: even though I had the whole distance to the tunnel.
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: That's when he's sprinted. We were down twenty to ten
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: at the half at Stanford and he was so mad
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: and I think we had missed a field goal right
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: like he actually chose to take the points, which he
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: really didn't like to do.
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and uh and they didn't get the points and
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: he was so mad. We came back and won that game.
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: By the way, that's a good story. I'm telling you.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: We're gonna get a lot of jutment stories out about
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: Leach during the season.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Yeah, there's there's so many.
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: And people just really thought he was being rude to
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: me and mean, I'm like, no, he's treating me like
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: a competitor and we are in a battle right now
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: and I'm gonna win.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: And guess what, I've won every single time.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: Good for you, Corat, that's a badge of honor.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: He made me sound like crap. But but yeah, anyone
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: who ever thought like they needed to come to my defense.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: And I get how it looks, but I knew.
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: I was like, Oh, if he didn't respect me, he
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: just stand there and say some you know, generic answers.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: But he yelled at me and stuff. Yeah, it was awesome.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: I missed him so much, like the Kumadads tax on
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: fot find four or five one forty five says Milton Bradley,
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: one of the worst Mariners.
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: I believe he didn't break over two hundred batting average
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: in twenty ten. Had off field issues.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: To our US Coast Guard listener, I had a really
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: oddly good relationship with Milton Bradley when covering the Mariners.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Oh, but he ended up being a bad guy.
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: Yeah he was.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: He was a lot of problems off the field and
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: accusations of domestic violence and other things.
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: And he was a live wire. Comeous I did he.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: I used to wear cable sweaters in the open air
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: press box a T mobile park was He would always compliment,
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: what'd you get that sweater?
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: It looked like like an Irish spring sweater or something
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: from Scotland or something, and he would he would, would
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: you get that sweater?
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: You can give me?
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: One of those was the old structure you remember structure
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: when we were kids, structures around.
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: It was a clothing brand off of the Gap. I
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: think it was only an Ohio thing.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't recall that the.
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: Structure was a store. That's where I had gotten that.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Uh two fine three asked me, you've witnessed practices after
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: coach Carrol's Super Bowl win and now coach McDonald's Super
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Bowl win. Any similarities or differences after they're huge wins
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: of how they conduct practices.
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: That's a good question, and yes there are differences. McDonald's
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: practices are much longer, they are on much different paces.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: As I mentioned earlier, sometimes they're walking pace. They're literally
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: walking through the plays eleven on eleven in pads. And
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Carol was full tilt, highly competitive, high energy at all times,
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: but then shorter and sometimes they were an hour and
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: when they were done, they were done. And McDonald, I
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: mean so Carol would do his teaching on the White
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: Border film room. McDonald does his teaching on the field
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: in formation and the guys walk through. That's the difference.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: And the longest.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: Practices I've seen of the three camps i've covered to
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: McDonald have been this week three hours long.
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: It was interesting.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: The other day it was it was Wednesday, the longest
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: practice of camp yet. It was the hottest practice camp.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: He was eighty eight degrees, was really smoky, and it
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: went three hours. And in the next to last, next
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: to last scrimmage series long. They were doing long possessions,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: flowing from one end of the field the other. Whether
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: the offense picked up a first down or not, they
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: just kept marchin to keep the defense on the field
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: for a long time.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: And at the end of that long series scrimmage, thirty
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: two year old, twelve year veteran Leonard Williams was blowing
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: up plays in the backfield. Three in a row.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: He ruined, and I thought to myself, here's the guy
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: who's made one hundred and seventy million dollars.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: He just won the Super Bowl, he just got married,
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: he just had a first kid.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: He's in his twelfth NFL training camp, running down plays
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: from the back and blowing up plays in the backfield.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: At the end of a three hour practice on a
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: Wednesday in August. That told me a lot about Leonard Wins.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: And after the practice, Derek Hall actually mentioned if that
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: series of plays I'm unsolicited, He says, you want to
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: know about Letter Williams. He blew up three plays in
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: a row end of a three hour practice. We all
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: look at that and like, well, if you could do that,
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: we should be able to do that at twenty four
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: to twenty.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: Six years leading by example right there.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, And but the point of that long story was
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: under Pete Carroll, they would have been out there at
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: that point. They would have been already in the meeting
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: room looking at the film practice whenever that long.
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: Okay, we have a couple more talkbacks.
- 1:10:28Speaker 12: Hey, their show Another beautiful day in the Northwest. I'm
- 1:10:33Speaker 12: gonna predict tonight's game, beautiful day ruined by another Mariner's loss.
- 1:10:39Speaker 12: Mariners lose to Tampa Bay five to four because Munios
- 1:10:45Speaker 12: has to come in with a run around base and
- 1:10:47Speaker 12: blows it, gives up a two run homer, and then
- 1:10:51Speaker 12: we can't hit in the bottom of the ninth. So
- 1:10:53Speaker 12: enjoy the stupid home run show and that god awful
- 1:10:56Speaker 12: Jimothy Crap.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: Worst Mariners of all I'm Mario Mendoza and Mike Zanino.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: Terrible.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: Remember the Seahawks are not afraid of the Rams or
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Aaron Donald.
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: Bring them on.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: Varying opinions there. That's that's it. We don't have anymore. Well,
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: this is the Greg Bell Show.
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: I'm Jessaman McIntyre and we're gonna have to take a
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: break before we get to Ian Furness.
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: Here we go, Welcome back great Bow, Jessin McIntyre.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: Now Ian Fornette from Aaron Maple Falley joining us here
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: at Seahawks training camp Lab on ninety two point three kJ.
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: I f M one.
- 1:12:01Speaker 15: There we go one two one two one two little
- 1:12:03Speaker 15: technical issues outside. Huh, the whole box went down, not
- 1:12:06Speaker 15: just us, everybody. There's a scram like it does. A
- 1:12:08Speaker 15: scramble right now for the national TV people. I saw
- 1:12:12Speaker 15: a guy a couple of the photos.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: Are you the A one? What's going on over here?
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: I'll get out of here.
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: So we did you say a practice? The little that
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: I saw? I saw tight ends running deep down the
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: field again, I said.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Cooper Cup meeting Devin Witherspoon one on one, and Witherspoon's
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: not happy about it.
- 1:12:28Speaker 6: That's shocking.
- 1:12:29Speaker 15: Uh, I saw you know what jumped out of me?
- 1:12:32Speaker 15: I Jalen Millrolf of making a couple of nice plays
- 1:12:34Speaker 15: again like I, I, oh, he's had a really good
- 1:12:37Speaker 15: week and hap man, I'm telling you it quietly. They've
- 1:12:42Speaker 15: got to be thrilled like this, and we I think
- 1:12:45Speaker 15: you and I talked about this, and I've talked about
- 1:12:46Speaker 15: with other people. They've got a four year window with him.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: Yes they do. They don't need him to be ready
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: this year.
- 1:12:51Speaker 15: But you really, I'm sure they went you really need
- 1:12:54Speaker 15: to see some growth from year one to year two.
- 1:12:56Speaker 15: And the first one what basically OTAs in mini camps.
- 1:12:59Speaker 15: We didn't really see that.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: He was very inaccurate in the spring.
- 1:13:02Speaker 15: But now all of a sudden, this dude's he's slinging
- 1:13:05Speaker 15: it like I I make him looks like good decisions.
- 1:13:07Speaker 15: I saw him go through progressions, you know, so it was.
- 1:13:12Speaker 15: It's it's been fun, man, it's been fun watching him.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: Got The competition at wide receiver is going to be crazy.
- 1:13:18Speaker 15: Yeah, you know, I think it just comes down to, like,
- 1:13:22Speaker 15: which guys are do you think can get through the
- 1:13:24Speaker 15: the to practice squad because they'll be deep there.
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: But how many play on special teams.
- 1:13:29Speaker 15: Right, and that's and all those guys are battling for that.
- 1:13:32Speaker 15: That's why the preseason is big for those dudes. But yeah, no,
- 1:13:36Speaker 15: Judarian Price, I don't think today.
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: I haven't seen it. Yeah.
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: I looked out and see him either, So reason for that.
- 1:13:41Speaker 6: He was there yesterday walk through. Coach isn't talking today, right, correct?
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: Okay, that's no good.
- 1:13:49Speaker 15: Maybe he'll talk to the to the national guys, you know,
- 1:13:52Speaker 15: maybe that's uh, I'm quite certain of that. Yeah, yeah, oh,
- 1:13:56Speaker 15: I'm I'm very certain of that. Yeah, Rapping mean it
- 1:14:00Speaker 15: to come here for giggles.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: So you ask, you ask Rappaport of the quid pro quo.
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: The other half of his favorite to John Schneider is.
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: Is what now the other day?
- 1:14:10Speaker 15: And oh yeah, yeah, you know we talked. So yeah,
- 1:14:12Speaker 15: I'll go, what's the speaking of how the sausage is made?
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: Sorry, no, no, no, no, no, all good. This is
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: how the sausage is made.
- 1:14:20Speaker 15: Rapp is running around, he's doing live shots every ten minutes,
- 1:14:24Speaker 15: and so he cleared out a few minutes for us.
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: So we just taped an interview.
- 1:14:27Speaker 15: We're going to play probably at one o'clock today I think,
- 1:14:31Speaker 15: And so we'll do that and we'll either we'll play
- 1:14:35Speaker 15: it sometime in the first hour or to the show.
- 1:14:37Speaker 15: But he yeah, we went through the whole what happened,
- 1:14:40Speaker 15: how is the hard Knocks, what's going on? Where are
- 1:14:43Speaker 15: they in the contract?
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: We'll get to that. He mentioned a lot of things.
- 1:14:48Speaker 6: I'll just leave it at that for now.
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: So it was good.
- 1:14:50Speaker 6: It was very good.
- 1:14:51Speaker 15: Actually, I think our listeners are going to actually and
- 1:14:53Speaker 15: it's not just eleven twelve minutes with an insider, it's
- 1:14:58Speaker 15: eleven or twelve minutes of here's how it works works,
- 1:15:00Speaker 15: which he's how what he does because I think a
- 1:15:05Speaker 15: lot of people when they saw that stuff with on
- 1:15:07Speaker 15: Hard Knocks are like, well, not.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: To mention his line of work and what they do
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: is under a microscope. Now, one from the criticism of
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: Adam Schefner gets for scratching the back. Yes, the emails
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: with the Washington commanders, check my mail and the Diana
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: ever see.
- 1:15:23Speaker 15: Anything one hundred percent? And you know, I think for
- 1:15:26Speaker 15: for and here's the thing, like, those guys are one
- 1:15:29Speaker 15: hundred percent graded on and their job performance is based
- 1:15:33Speaker 15: on what are you breaking like? And and he's on
- 1:15:36Speaker 15: the same team I asked Hm about Schefter kind of
- 1:15:38Speaker 15: being on the same team with Adam Schefter now and
- 1:15:40Speaker 15: what that's like.
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: So he talks about that.
- 1:15:42Speaker 15: But yeah, I mean their entire like the whole time
- 1:15:44Speaker 15: he's in here, and I've been with him before on
- 1:15:46Speaker 15: the road and he's been here. I mean the phone,
- 1:15:49Speaker 15: he's just it's the phone's going all the time. Like
- 1:15:52Speaker 15: he doesn't get like I you got to be a
- 1:15:55Speaker 15: special kind of nuts to want.
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: To do that job.
- 1:15:56Speaker 15: To be honest with you, outside you have no life.
- 1:16:00Speaker 15: I mean, it's always going. It's it's it's always going.
- 1:16:02Speaker 15: So we'll talk about Witherspoon's contract, where we're at. I
- 1:16:05Speaker 15: ask about Aaron Donald and stuff, some other stuff. But yeah,
- 1:16:07Speaker 15: they kind of he talked a lot about the conversation
- 1:16:11Speaker 15: he had afterwards, goes yep, Schneider did call. They'll explain
- 1:16:15Speaker 15: what was said in that one too. So it's a
- 1:16:17Speaker 15: fun conversation with rap coming up. I'm excited for that
- 1:16:19Speaker 15: so to play for our listeners. And you know here
- 1:16:21Speaker 15: on this fiftieth anniversary weekend.
- 1:16:23Speaker 16: Greg, it is what do you look at? Are you
- 1:16:26Speaker 16: gonna go out to the yard and all this? I
- 1:16:27Speaker 16: think Sunday, Yeah, I think Sunday, Yeah, I'm going tonight. Yeah, yeah, Sunday.
- 1:16:30Speaker 16: I think I'm gonna find my way out there. And
- 1:16:34Speaker 16: you're not going for Jimithy night. Tonight they're doing it again.
- 1:16:37Speaker 16: You know that they're doing it again. Nineteen nothing.
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: They've lost their last two defeats and they've going back
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: to that wealth tonight. They don't need to do it tonight.
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: And that's what I'm curious. Why are they doing it tonight.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: They must have extra they must have extra cards or
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: extra trading cards or whatever it is, so exactly, Yeah,
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: twenty one to four.
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: They get out scored in that series only by home runs.
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: If they don't have home runs, they don't score. They don't.
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: When it's not a sustainable model, the team everyone gets
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: on Wilson. Jered Depoto handed Wilson a team that could
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: only hit.
- 1:17:08Speaker 15: Home runs, and I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna go
- 1:17:10Speaker 15: down with this ship. I'm gonna tell you right now.
- 1:17:13Speaker 15: I I think most people, especially people who really are
- 1:17:17Speaker 15: there every day in fall baseball, if they would be
- 1:17:19Speaker 15: honest with themselves, they would say, yeah, a managerial change
- 1:17:21Speaker 15: should happen, it needs to be made. But At the
- 1:17:24Speaker 15: same time, this this at some point falls on the players,
- 1:17:29Speaker 15: like it has to fall in the like like like
- 1:17:31Speaker 15: we live in a world where we're gonna like I
- 1:17:34Speaker 15: don't hear a lot of and I feel like I
- 1:17:36Speaker 15: do this every day. Cal Rawley is letting this team down.
- 1:17:40Speaker 15: There's there's just no no way around that. So is
- 1:17:43Speaker 15: Josh Naylor, so is Julio for the most part. And
- 1:17:47Speaker 15: in terms of offense, if your name isn't Randy Rose, Arena,
- 1:17:51Speaker 15: Cole Young or for the most part, dom can Zone,
- 1:17:56Speaker 15: nobody else in that offense has been worth a crap
- 1:17:58Speaker 15: this year. Those are the guys that have let him down. Roade,
- 1:18:01Speaker 15: Brian Wu has let them down. Bryce Miller yesterday though, man,
- 1:18:04Speaker 15: I gotta wonder about his elbow and and the Luke
- 1:18:08Speaker 15: Raley news comes out. I'm sorry, I don't want to
- 1:18:09Speaker 15: offend Justin Hollander.
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: Really that story.
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: Really, Yeah, that's we didn't even talk about that.
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: That is.
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: That's malpractice, man?
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: Is it not kept playing? Yeah? Yept playing And it's
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: not like that wasn't over the top bat you had
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: to keep in the lineup.
- 1:18:31Speaker 15: No, dude's getting courtzon shots. He's a baseball player. Yeah,
- 1:18:35Speaker 15: like I get Cortizone here, like you get you got
- 1:18:38Speaker 15: one game a week.
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: I don't know, man, but you're right.
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: Dan Wilson's not in the batter's box trying to pull
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: pictures on the outside half of the plague game. He's
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: a one. But there is an organization philosophy toward latch
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: angle and exit loo.
- 1:18:52Speaker 15: If I never see the graphics say's exit v low again,
- 1:18:55Speaker 15: I'll be thrilled. You know what, fifty players gonna be
- 1:18:58Speaker 15: are gonna be honored this weekend. The majority of those
- 1:19:01Speaker 15: guys never had a graphic come up and say exit view.
- 1:19:05Speaker 15: Like if Griffy hit a long fly ball foul and
- 1:19:10Speaker 15: then he struck out the next at bat with runners
- 1:19:12Speaker 15: on in a big position, no one ever said, but
- 1:19:14Speaker 15: boy boy, he his exit fielo was really good.
- 1:19:17Speaker 6: It was that was a bad at bat. And I
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: bet Ken would tell you the same thing.
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: Thank you. Martinez wasn't a big disciple of exit philosophy.
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: Lago shoot me out. Yeah, Hi, what do you got next?
- 1:19:30Speaker 15: We're gonna check in with I think Ricky White's gonna
- 1:19:32Speaker 15: join us. We talked to back in Minio. Really fun
- 1:19:34Speaker 15: guy to talk to, battling for a roster spot, Rapaport,
- 1:19:37Speaker 15: how the Sausages made, Danny O'Neal and robberrang All coming up.
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: That's the Internet.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: Twelve until three, Greg Belt Jessin, thanks for listening. We'll
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: do it again Monday from Seahawks training camp on ninety
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: three point three KJIRFM
