- Jen: Welcome to the Glow and Two Podcast, real women, real stories, and wisdom for what's next. The more women I meet in their 60s, the more I hear a powerful message. I'm not done yet. They're still curious, they're still creating, and they're still discovering new ways to use everything they've learned. Kathleen Kaiser has spent decades helping businesses, communities, and other people find their voice. Her own path has taken her through motherhood, marketing, media, and a few unexpected doors that That opened along the way. Now she's looking ahead with new creative ideas and a belief that there's more she wants to accomplish. Today I'm reading her glow in two story. Kathleen Kaiser, a voice built through community, media and reinvention. These are the women of Glowin' too. Here is Kathleen's story. After decades of helping businesses, cities, clients, and creative projects find their voice, Kathleen Kaiser is entering a new season, one where the next story is her own. Kathleen has spent much of her life helping other people be seen. Through marketing, media, community work, public relations, movie reviews, and her own company, Kaiser Communication Marketing Group, she has helped businesses, organizations, cities, theaters, and clients shape their message and share it with the world. She knows how to promote a place. She knows how to tell the story behind a business. She knows how to walk into a media space and talk about movies with ease. She knows how to help someone else prepare, present, and show up. Now she is turning that same light toward herself. At sixty two, Kathleen continues to create a life intertwined with business, branding, and the life she always focused on, her family. She is talking like a woman who still feels like something stirring. She has ideas. She has creative interests. She has experience that younger professionals are beginning to ask her to share. She has photography she wants to explore more deeply. Fashion that has always felt like a form of expression and a skill for communication that has carried her through multiple chapters. She does not have every detail mapped out yet. She only knows she's not done. When Kathleen thinks about her first real step into adulthood, she does not begin with a job title or a career move. She begins with motherhood. I would say becoming a mother for me was my first step into being a full fledged adult, she says. She was twenty six when her daughter was born. Before that she had experienced a miscarriage, something that did not fit into the life plan she had imagined for herself. Like many women, Kathleen had once pictured a certain order to things marriage, children, family life, and the future unfolding in a way that seemed clear. Life had other timing. After her first daughter was born, Kathleen and her husband were told they likely would not have any more children because of the issues she had experienced. They were content with the family they had. Then, ten years later, came the surprise of their second daughter. Kathleen was thirty-six. By today's standards, that does not seem unusual. At the time, it felt different. With her oldest daughter, she and her husband were among the younger parents. A decade later, with her youngest, they were among the older ones. That span gave Kathleen a unique view of motherhood across two different seasons of her life. Her daughters, now 35 and 26, remain at the center of what matters most to her. Through every career shift, every opportunity, and a very demanding season, Kathleen always tried to make sure they never felt like they were taking a back seat to what she was building. Her work mattered, her family mattered more. Kathleen became intentional about the foundations she wanted with her husband and daughters. She wanted the four of them to be strong. She wanted family dinners, family vacations, shared memories, and a sense that they belonged to one another. She also wanted her daughters to experience the world around her. When she could, she brought them along. During her years working at St. Elizabeth Hospital, where she served as senior program director and worked in marketing, Kathleen was often able to bring her children with her. Her daughter spent time around older adults, community programs, and conversations that taught them something about people. Kathleen saw value in that. She believed being around different generations helped shape how her daughters communicated, listened, and understood the world. It was not just about bringing children to work. It was about exposing them to people, stories, and places that could expand how they saw life. For Kathleen's success was never only about what she could build professionally. It also was about what her daughters saw, absorbed, and carried with them. With everything I've done in my life, those two girls are still my key focus, she says. Coming up on Glow and Tell, a conversation for the woman everyone counts on. You know her. She's the one who shows up, figures things out, and makes sure everyone else is okay. Maybe she's you. So what happens when she starts asking, what do I want? I'm welcoming our first guest, Shannon Shores, founder of Bertie Mae Consulting, to talk about the role of being dependable and the moment you realize something in your life is ready to shift. We'll explore how to make room for change and what Shannon would say to the woman who wants more but isn't sure where to begin. Stay tuned for our next episode of Glow and Tell in the Glow and Tell Podcast. Kathleen's career did not begin with a perfect plan. She first attended St. Louis University with pre med in mind. She loved people. She loved medicine. She thought that might be her path. Then anatomy made her rethink that direction, and the life she had imagined started to shift. She went to work instead. Her earlier career kept her close to the hospital world. She worked at Memorial Hospital, then at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where her work began to move more clearly into marketing, programming, and communication. Eventually she walked into the Greater Bellevue Chamber of Commerce for what was supposed to be a part time position as an events coordinator. Her youngest daughter was three at the time, and Kathleen was looking for something that allowed her to keep balance at home. The part-time role grew quickly. She became membership director, then executive director, serving in the role from 2004 to 2009. It was work she loved, yet it was also demanding. Early mornings, long days, evening events, and public responsibilities became part of the rhythm. By then, her oldest daughter was in high school and her youngest was still at home. Kathleen eventually made the decision to step away. And not because she did not love the work, because she knew what her family needed. I didn't wait that long to have another child for my mother in law to raise her, she says. That decision says a lot about Kathleen. She has always cared about achievement, contribution, and meaningful work, yet when something needed to shift for her family, she was willing to make that shift. I didn't know exactly what I was doing. But I knew what I needed to do. After leaving the chamber, Kathleen returned for a time to St. Elizabeth's Hospital. Then a friend from high school reached out with an opportunity through Radio Disney. It was before remote work became normal, yet he asked her to come on as an independent contractor and help build programming and sales. That opportunity became one of the early pieces of a much larger transition. Kathleen opened Kaiser Communication and Marketing Group. And Radio Disney became one of her clients. From there, her work continued to evolve. She built a business around marketing, media, public relations, and communication. She worked with clients, helped promote organizations, and used the relationships she had built across the region to connect people with the right platforms. At one point, the business had grown enough that she was close to needing to hire someone or risk never sleeping. Then another shift came. She helped with the mayoral campaign in Belleville, and after the election, she was asked to continue that work with the city. For Kathleen, it was another opportunity to use her experience in media, marketing, tourism, and community promotion. Later, she accepted a role through Compass Group, an international hospitality company. The position was supposed to involve some travel. It became far more travel than expected, and after eight months, Kathleen returned home and back to the kind of work that felt more aligned. Two local companies had already told her that if she ever came back, they needed her help. So she came back. Today, Kathleen continues to run Kaiser Communication and Marketing Group, working with numerous clients. Her work includes media, marketing, digital promotion, communication strategy, and helping businesses stay visible. She is still A one woman show. There's more to come from the women of Glowin' Two. Kathleen's role as a movie reviewer on Fox 2 Studio STL began through a conversation. At the time, she was working on ways to promote the city of Balval from a tourism perspective. She was meeting with Fox 2 when someone asked if she still did movie reviews. The station had lost its movie reviewer, and the opportunity was there. Kathleen said yes. That was about three years ago. Since then, she has become a regular presence on Fox 2. Reviewing movies and sharing her perspective with viewers, she also talks movies on the Vic Perselli show, where her segments can run 20 minutes or more depending on the conversation. For Kathleen, the opportunity clicked because it brought together things she already loved communication, media, storytelling, and movies. It also happened in the way many important opportunities do, not through a perfect plan, not through a formal reinvention, through relationship, reputation, timing. And being willing to take the leap when it presented itself. Sometimes the next thing begins because someone remembers what you are good at, she says. Kathleen is not only a marketer and media professional, she is also deeply creative. Photography has always been part of her life. She loves architecture, nature, and capturing details that catch her eye. Recently, that creative interest opened a new door when she was asked to do photography for a local law office after someone noticed the work she had shared. Fashion is another thread that has also followed her for years. Kathleen has always loved clothing, jewelry, shoes, and personal style. And when she appears on television, some of the biggest responses she receives are about what she's wearing. Younger women at the station compliment her outfits and ask if she can help them expand their own style and expressionism through fashion. Those comments have made her wonder if there's something more there. Could she help women feel better in what they wear? Could fashion become another way to communicate confidence and individuality? Could media training become part of her next chapter too? In recent weeks, several people have asked Kathleen why she is not teaching others how to prepare for interviews, public appearances, and media opportunities. After all, she has spent 30 years helping people become more comfortable being seen. She had not necessarily viewed it as a business direction before, but now she's listening. Glow and 2 is creating space for women to share what they know, tell the stories that matter, and connect with women navigating what comes next. If you're interested in pursuing those opportunities or you'd just like to tell your story, please contact Jennifer Joyner at glowinto.com. Glow and two is for real women, real stories, and wisdom for what's next. One of the beliefs Kathleen carries came from her father. Every day is an educational experience. That mindset has helped her stay open through decades of change, especially in a world where communication and technology have transformed dramatically. Kathleen remembers the era of cut-and-paste layouts, print advertising, and traditional media relationships. She's also learned digital marketing, social media, and new platforms. She understands that younger generations bring different tools, instincts, and ideas. She does not see it as a threat. She just sees it as another way. This isn't a better way, she says. It's another way. That perspective may become one of the most valuable things she has to offer now. Kathleen knows what it means to build relationships before everything was online. She also knows the importance of not being left behind. She can see the value in technology without making it a crutch. She can learn from younger professionals while also recognizing the wisdom she brings from experience. That balance is rare and it might be part of her next chapter. Kathleen describes the season as one of discovery. I haven't accomplished everything I want to accomplish, she says. There are still things she wants to do before the decades arrive. There are still creative interests pulling at her attention. There are still ways she may want to reach, lead, style, photograph, train, or build. And she may discover that the next chapter is not one thing but a combination of many things she has been gathering all along. That uncertainty does not make the story weaker, it makes it more honest. Many women reach a point where the old definition of success no longer fits exactly, even if it once served them well. They are not starting from nothing. They are starting from experience. They are carrying wisdom, relationships, instincts, And a clearer sense of what they do and do not want. Kathleen is in that space now. She is not lost. She is listening. Kathleen Kaiser has spent decades helping other people find the right words, the right audience, the right angle, and the right moment. She has helped cities promote themselves, businesses become visible, theaters stay part of the community conversation, and clients step into media opportunities. With more confidence. Now the question is shifting. What happens when the communicator becomes a story? What happens when the woman who has spent years promoting others begins to claim the value of her own experience, creativity, and voice? Kathleen does not need to have the entire next chapter mapped out to know there is one. After decades of helping others shape their message, she is beginning to listen more closely to her own. And if there's one thing she knows for sure, it's this. She's not. Done yet. Kathleen has followed her voice through every chapter of her life. I hope her story reminds you that your own path can keep unfolding too. If you'd like to spend more time with Kathleen, you can read her full story and see the photos at glowin2.com. You'll also find her editorial feature in the October issue of O'Fallon Area Living magazine, where we share the story of a different woman of Glowin' Two each month. Thank you for listening to the Glowin' Two podcasts and for joining me. and celebrating these women and their journeys. And until next time, keep glowing into who you were always meant to be.
