- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today is pasta day in the chicken coop.
- 0:34And as many of you know, I like, you know, seeing pictures on
- 0:38social media, I bring out platters every morning to my
- 0:42animals and they consist of fresh veggies and different
- 0:46things all the time. Sometimes I just clean out the
- 0:49refrigerator with it. It's like a very useful thing,
- 0:50but every so often when it's not too warm, especially in the
- 0:54winter, I do it more. But in the summer when it's
- 0:56really hot and it's been really, really hot, I haven't given them
- 1:00pasta in a while. So today is probably the first
- 1:03time that these teenager chickens, so to speak, are
- 1:09having pasta. So I bring out the platters and
- 1:13basically this is just little shells, boiled, put coconut oil
- 1:18on them, olive oil on them, and crushed red Peppers.
- 1:21And today they always have. Every day they have bananas and
- 1:24every day they have some other kind of fruit, whether it's
- 1:26blueberries or raspberries. Today it happens to be
- 1:28raspberries on top, but the littles haven't seen the pasta
- 1:33yet. And what was interesting about
- 1:36this was I put it down and all the big girls immediately went
- 1:39to it. And the little girls didn't even
- 1:40know what to do. Some of them stood back, some of
- 1:42them watched the big girls, some of them dove right in.
- 1:45It was just a, a melee of like, what is the right thing to do?
- 1:49And it got me really thinking about normally I wouldn't talk
- 1:52about something like this, however, got me thinking about
- 1:55how humans approach things as well and how humans get very,
- 1:59very wound up when they have to make decisions.
- 2:03And this platter, putting it down on the ground is a very,
- 2:07very like immediate thing. All the big girls, there are 33
- 2:11big girls and they come rushing. So they want to get their
- 2:15breakfast and they're going to get it quickly before it's gone
- 2:18because they understand how this works.
- 2:20And then you've got all the littles, which there are 28
- 2:23littles who are trying to figure out how to, you know, get in
- 2:27there. And it's so funny to me to watch
- 2:30them figure out like, do I mimic what the others are doing or do
- 2:35I not? And as I started watching,
- 2:37because now I've gotten all their personalities pretty
- 2:39clear, there are some that consistently hold back no matter
- 2:43what they see anybody doing. There are those that are just
- 2:47all in right away, no matter what anybody's doing.
- 2:49And then there are the middle of the roads that will take a piece
- 2:52and then they run off and they don't need it, but they take it
- 2:55off and then they want to see what it is.
- 2:57They want to explore it first and how much that mimics human
- 3:01behavior in most things. How we get stuck in that same
- 3:05thing where we don't actually just say, all right, I'm going
- 3:09to dive right in. I'm going to or we do say, I'm
- 3:12going to watch and see what happens here.
- 3:13I'm going to see what everybody else goes through and then I'll
- 3:15make a decision. And I think it's very parallel
- 3:20to how a human being thinks and how a human being gets involved
- 3:23in this stuff. And when you pay attention and
- 3:27watch yourself, am I, what am I doing?
- 3:29Am I following the crowd? Am I jumping in with the crowd?
- 3:32Am I standing off from the crowd?
- 3:34It really helps us understand our own behavior.
- 3:37Like am I in the midst of it? Am I leaving through it?
- 3:39Or am I just standing back watching the fray?
- 3:43Now, I can tell you there are times for myself personally when
- 3:47I will jump in and I will take the leadership role and I will
- 3:50go right in. And then there are other times
- 3:52when I just stand back and I'm like, yeah, I'm not so sure
- 3:56about this. I want to watch and see what
- 3:58happens. I find myself in that observant
- 4:02role as I get older more and more because I want to watch the
- 4:07behavior of everyone else going on before I actually make a
- 4:10decision about what is actually happening.
- 4:13And I think as we get older, these things happen.
- 4:16We become more directed to be in the place where we are going to
- 4:21go in that observation mode and we don't jump in quite so
- 4:25quickly, which is fine. There's nothing wrong with it
- 4:28and there's nothing wrong with any of these.
- 4:30It's just having us take a look at it and be observant with it
- 4:33and say, well, what does that get us?
- 4:35What does this behavior get us? Because remember, the more we
- 4:37observe things, the more we can shift and decide.
- 4:40So for me, the the being the observer and watching, watching
- 4:43and pulling back gives me Peace of Mind that I didn't make a
- 4:47decision that was going to be quick.
- 4:53Quick, yes, fine, I'd make quick decisions, but it wasn't well
- 4:56thought through. And sometimes I have to say to
- 4:59myself, I need 24 hours to make that decision so I can go
- 5:02through the whole process. Now sometimes there is just no
- 5:05way you have to make a decision, especially life and death
- 5:07things. You got to just jump in and go
- 5:09and that's it. And that's fine.
- 5:11I mean, if that's what has to be done, that's what has to be
- 5:13done, no questions asked. But I'm not talking about those,
- 5:17I'm talking about the normal things.
- 5:19So before I walked out here, perfect example, I have want to
- 5:24order a new bed Topper because we have a very nice mattress
- 5:28that my husband got because it was good for his hips and great,
- 5:33you know, that's fantastic, but it doesn't work for me and my
- 5:36style of sleeping. I want squishy, he wants hard.
- 5:40It's a pain in the butt. I was going to get a new
- 5:42mattress Topper. I watched a commercial for it
- 5:45and then I was like, OK, I'm not going to pull that trigger right
- 5:48now. I'm going to do more research
- 5:49and that's OK. But that's one of those
- 5:51observant ones. Now when I was younger, I might
- 5:54have just ordered it immediately, but the point of
- 5:56this is saying it doesn't matter who you are in the world.
- 6:00It doesn't matter what you do, you, you have all three
- 6:02capacities. You have many different
- 6:05capacities when it comes to this.
- 6:07So it's watching yourself and doing it with the awareness that
- 6:12you're doing it, not just randomly doing it and holding
- 6:15yourself back. Because sometimes when you're
- 6:17not aware, then you make those mistakes of staying in those
- 6:19spots of pulling back too long. So hopefully this was helpful
- 6:23today and I will see you guys tomorrow.
- 6:26Bye.
