  [rock music] Hey, everybody.
• 0:17
You thought you were rid of us, but we're back with show number 326. FYI, that is not, to Tony here, the AI-generated song. Oh, not? What is it? This is, uh, Steve Drover's band, uh, Problem Child, from the old days.
• 0:34
It's mostly, uh, Fat Bottomed Girls. Mm-hmm. It is Fat Bottomed Girls. It's just not the same way that Queen did it and intended it. Wow. So anyway, uh, uh, uh, it's been a month.
• 0:47
I don't know if we know what we're doing. Oh, yeah, yeah. JK's like, "I don't know." [laughs] Well, I was so dumb, I didn't know what time it started. [laughs] I'm like, wait a minute, you guys gotta help me here.
• 0:54
Is it 6:00 or 7:00? [laughs] And Tuesday's again. So let's run around the table. We got JK. Uh, hello. I'm- In his, in his new chapeau. Yes. Tony, in his also new WMSE chapeau. Twins. Or twinsies. Twinsies, man.
• 1:05
We have Corey. Howdy. Corey the drummer. Hi. And Joe the butcher. [laughs] Hey, uh, what it is. [laughs] I was like, yeah, we're, we're just gonna describe them- That's good... as jobs.
• 1:16
We can't, we can't use our real names anymore- Mm... in case somebody gets ahold of us. [laughs] Screened. At my age, I could give a fuck. On the interwebs. Uh, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
• 1:26
So in this last month, boy, I guess a lot of stuff happened. Mm-hmm. I think we saw, I saw Corey at least twice, if not more often, with his band, Robits. Yeah, a couple times. Yep. What do you guys have coming?
• 1:39
Anything interesting? Robits have nothing new coming up, but, um, my other band, Future Plans, has a show this Saturday at, uh, MKE Ultra. Right on. Which is on like 15th and Mitchell. Mm-hmm.
• 1:53
Someone was just telling me about that. Apparently a cool, cool area. Yeah, um- Yeah, it's a, it's a new venue, right? Yeah, new- Now Dave's a DJ there. Yeah. Yeah. Um-
• 2:03
There were times- Isn't that where they had the, uh, poster, um, show? The old vintage posters- Oh, with like- With Vauban's... Vauban's? Yeah. No, that's on 10th. That's on, yeah. 10th and Mitchell.
• 2:14
I mean, it's in the area. It's in the neighborhood. So right next door to each other. Make a day of it. Yeah, exactly. Go to that. Ta-da. Come see the show. Bingo. Um, I've been to MKE Ultra only one other time.
• 2:24
Before it was, like, a full-fledged venue. I'm really excited to play there- Cool... 'cause it- I've heard good things... it's a real cool intimate space, so uh, I'll see you guys all there on- Right on. [laughs]...
• 2:33
Saturday. I think it starts at 7:00. We play first. Perfect. And we're- Ta-da... playing with The DUIs. Oh. Ooh, nice. Excellent band.
• 2:40
And, uh, and we're playing with another band, uh, a younger outfit called October's Exit. Um- More, more on the same vein? Um, yeah, I, I don't know. The kids were wearing, like, Descendent shirts and stuff.
• 2:51
[laughs] So I would think so. That bodes well. Yeah. But I guess they like... They packed, uh, quarters. They're all, like, teenagers. I don't know how they even got a show at Quarters.
• 2:59
[laughs] Although I, I definitely know how they got a show at Quarters- [laughs]... at the same time. As I just watch the talk through. Yeah. [laughs] So, uh, what's the... You know what the capacity there is?
• 3:11
Um, I would bet it can't be more than like 100, 150. Okay. It's not the one that's super small. There's a real small one over there somewhere. Yeah. It's, I mean, it- Like Fal- Falcon's Nest size. Yeah.
• 3:22
It's, I would say it's about the same size as Falcon Nest. Okay. Yeah, that was... At Sid's party there, it was pretty good. So maybe 75. I don't know. It was good. That was a good- I'm bad at judging small spaces...
• 3:30
it was a good place to see a band- Yeah... for sure. I remember when they were starting, like, uh, opening it, and people were just saying, you know, "Oh, it's like 15th or something and Mitchell."
• 3:39
And I kept, like, wanting, hoping. I'm like, oh, is that the Majesta? Mm. Is it the Majesta? Please, more life into the Majesta. I've seen great shows there. I have great memories- Me too... of that freaking place. Yeah.
• 3:50
I, I saw All there. I saw Agnostic Front. Widespread Panic before they went widespread. Uh, Cake before they also became Cake. Nada Surf- Mm... who were performing against Korn at, uh, at the Rave. Good call.
• 4:06
So nobody was at the Nada Surf show [laughs] at Majesta. No one cool. There was like 18 people. Well, everyone cool was at Nada Surf. They- Yeah. Yeah. Right.
• 4:13
I- Had I known about the Nada Surf show, I would've been there. I wasn't at the Korn show, but- But yeah, this was also '97. Yeah. So. [laughs] Yeah. That seemed a quite while back.
• 4:23
That's been shut down for 15 plus years. Yep. Mm-hmm. Sometimes it's not exist. I have seats if anybody wants any. Hmm? I have, uh, 10 Majesta seats. Oh. Oh, nice. Yeah. Right on. I bought them. Mm-hmm.
• 4:33
Might bring them over here. Hmm. Put them on a riser. Fi- what are they, five and five or four and- They're all... They can bolt together as many- Okay... you can do 10 across. You can do four.
• 4:41
When my dad had his film production company, he had a screening room that used, uh, I forget what theater they were out of, but they were, like, three rows, and he had them covered in...
• 4:52
Remember the old AMC Gremlin Levi's edition? Yes. My sister had one. He had them covered like those seats with the Levi's denim with the orange stitching. They were pretty cool. [laughs] Sweet. That's very cool.
• 5:03
I knew someone in Oshkosh that had one of those with a 454 in it. Yeah. That's nutty. I would've got- It popped wheelies with that. [laughs] What... That Chevette that you found with the big- That was badass...
• 5:13
big block in it, but that thing would probably do wheelies. It didn't... Did it have a big block? I don't know. Or was it just a 350? No, it was a 350. Oh, okay. I just- But yeah, still, 350 in a Chevette.
• 5:22
Big motor in a little car. Two headers coming out the hood. When's the last time you saw a Gremlin on the road? Never. It's been ages. I saw a Packard rec- or a Pacer- Pacer... recently. Yeah. But not a Gremlin.
• 5:32
You'll see Pacers, but you won't see Gremlins. Those- Those were always sharp... they, they just rusted into existence. Yeah, unless they're down south somewhere. Even my Matchbox car. Rusted? My Matchbox version.
• 5:42
They probably did it on purpose. No. Did it rust like the real thing? Probably. [laughs] The Matchbox probably rusted as fast as those damn things. True, true that. 'Cause they were junk.
• 5:50
Well, they made them right here in River West. Yeah. Yeah, right down the block, as a matter of fact. Uh, right on. So, uh, Joe's here. He brought some bison jalapeno cheddar snack sticks. Mm-hmm. Quite tasty. Yes. Yes.
• 6:04
They're freaking delicious, man. Everybody's, everybody's chomping. In real casings. So if you, if you hear of any, uh, lip smacking, don't, don't berate us for chomping on our, uh-... our sticks. The deliciousness.
• 6:13
[laughs] You're right. It's just a little sweet. It's really neat. Yeah. Well, bison meat is sweeter than- I love bison... you know, um, steer. Um, which I find, um, kinda unique. Mm-hmm.
• 6:25
Um, it, um, just a sort of, you know, cheap plug for the produ- um, the producer of this product. Um, um, Rebecca and, um, Pat, uh, Rice. They have a 100 acre plus farm outside of, um- Wow...
• 6:41
Plymouth, Calvary, Wisconsin. Oh, okay. Okay. So it's local. Um, I make this here in Sheboygan, Wisconsin at Slow Food Market. Um- Mm... and, um, it's a rare thing we get once a year. They cull their herd.
• 6:55
They, you know, they kill everything that they've got for the year. Uh, so we got two whole bison from- That's a lot of meat, man... these people. Wow.
• 7:03
Yeah, it, you know, their, their hanging weight is, you know, around 900 pounds each. Whoa. Wow. So they- That's a big animal. It's a, it's a hell of a lot of meat. And, uh, we, we- Tatanka, Tatanka... yeah. Right.
• 7:13
So we have a lot of ground lettuce to do, all the other great cuts. Um, and so I made this, um, snack stick based on- These are delicious... the one that I've been making for a while.
• 7:23
And, um, it well, sounds like you guys like it. Yeah, good stuff. Yeah. Really good. Yeah. So, uh, Slow- Little warm. Slow Food, uh, it- it's a market where you can just go buy meat, not just a restaurant, right?
• 7:34
No, it's a- It's a full grocery store... full grocery. Okay, full grocery store. You should go visit. It's beautiful. I, I, I do need to get up to Sheboygan. Um, what about, uh, holidays?
• 7:41
Can people order this stuff online? They, they can. Um, we have, uh, turkeys, um, and duck and, um, hams and things for the holidays that you can order online.
• 7:53
Um, just go to the website and you'll see the, you know, the order forms that you can fill out- It's S-L-O Food... and get stuff. Yeah, we'll put a link in the show notes. Slowfoodmarket.com. Yeah.
• 8:02
It- Stefano's Slow Food Market... a- and is it stuff that's sh- is it shippable? Uh, we don't ship. Just- Uh, we're not at that point yet. Um, we- Yeah, dry ice everything and send it- We're only three years old, um.
• 8:12
All right. I'm- And so we're kinda getting our feet wet as far as, you know, the kind of the logistics of shipping things abroad. Mm. Um, but we will get there at some point. Um, y- you can come- Slowport...
• 8:24
and pick up there, of course, or you can buy, you know, on site if you're in the area. Of course, welcome.
• 8:30
We have three restaurants attached to that establishment, so you've plenty of options for food, to eat and drink and- Close to Three Sheeps. Yeah. Three Sheeps, not that far away.
• 8:41
Um, and you got the, the fabulous legend, Larry, uh, wing thing around the corner. If, [laughs] Mm. If you, uh, have the stomach for Larry's wings. No. [laughs] Yeah, they're- And you're a, and you're a wing guy...
• 8:53
I hear the one place on Brady Street, um- They're brutal. Yeah. Yeah, it's, um- They're brutal. Yeah, you- Hot. Oh, is that- Hot... is that the one?
• 8:59
Yeah, you, you feel them in the beginning and you feel them the next day. Yeah. That's how I- You feel them a lot more the next day. Yeah. [laughs] And I don't mind that at all.
• 9:06
But sometimes who- Somebody named that the best wings in Wisconsin. I believe that. Do you think so? I know. I think, I think, uh, the... And I'm not a food truck guy.
• 9:16
I know you are a huge food truck guy, but uh, Double Dub's, those are some pretty great wings. Okay. Okay. Those are good. Those are good wings. My, my two favorite wings of the moment are, uh, smoked and grilled wings.
• 9:32
Two places. Uh, Bilda's, which is out in Richfield- Right... um, by Freeze Lake- Mm-hmm... on 164, Holly Hill Road. We used to, we used to ice race on Freeze Lake. On the way, on the way to the city. Yeah. Yeah.
• 9:44
Right off Freeze Lake. Holly Hill. Those, those guys kick it, and then there's a place called Lucky Devils in Port Washington. This guy owns The Bay in Silver Sp- on Silver Spring Run. Okay, okay. In Whitefish Bay. Oh.
• 9:56
Anyway, he bought this old townie bar on, right on top of the hill. By the- Right when you- By The Patio? Uh, exactly. Right next door. It's like they're 100 feet away from each other.
• 10:05
Oh, is that where Screech got all stabby? Yeah, I don't know. Is it? I don't- I think so... that could be. I, I- Dustin Diamond got all stabby, man... I don't know where Screech got killed. Or whatever. No, not killed.
• 10:12
Killed somebody. No, he got into the- He stabbed someone else there. Yeah, he got in- Oh, okay... he got into a bar fight and got a little stabby with people. Yeah. Sort of, sort of, uh- But that place, he, they got a...
• 10:21
It's great. It's, uh, Wednesdays. You get, uh, six wings for five bucks. Right on. Yeah. And a $3 Pams. Yeah, man. Pams. There you go. So, you know, you're out the door on, with a tip for like $12.
• 10:32
Is that on the south side of the street or the north side? It's, it's, um, it's- Set me the fuck up... north of the downtown. When you get to the top of the hill where the church is- Either east side or the west side.
• 10:40
Oh, I gotcha, gotcha. Okay... and it's on the west side of the street right next door to The Patio. I'm thinking the opposite- But the cool, he did a great job of remodeling this place.
• 10:47
Um, apparently, he told me that he bought it 'cause he needed a place to live, and it had a residence right, [laughs] residency above it. Above it.
• 10:54
And now he, I think he has his f- uh, uh, future brother-in-law running the kitchen, who's a kind of a really talented guy. Right on. Apparently. You know, um- Very cool... he just, he loves it.
• 11:06
But- The smash burgers had a pile of pie. Totally worth going- Yeah... to check it out if you're- Cool... in that area. Good to know Um, you know, they, they do the wings right. Excuse to hit the port. Yeah.
• 11:18
We'll be up- Right. We- Absolutely. Yeah. Next time we do a beach ride up that way- Yes. Yeah... bring the fatty up there. We should go. Field trip. That, that would be a great trip. [laughs] Yeah.
• 11:25
Corey, Corey could even borrow a bike and- [laughs] I'll just BMX it. [laughs] On the beach. On the beach. Yeah. Yeah. Let's see how that works. Yeah, that'll be fun to watch. You guys go ahead.
• 11:35
Well, if it's, I guess if it's frozen it would be fine. Yeah. Yeah. Ta-da. Yeah. Well, there is a lot of beach. Um- Right now there is, yeah...
• 11:44
I went out to, went out to Terry Andre, uh, twice this past week, and there's at least 25, 30 yards of beach. Awesome. Wow. Yeah. So when that settles down and, you know, firms up, it's- Winter's gonna be great...
• 11:58
gonna be a great ride. Yeah. There's- We gotta do a full moon winter ride. Yeah. It was- 4:30 in the afternoon. It's, it's, it's sneaking back towards the, uh- It's gonna be great...
• 12:05
sneaking back towards the weekend again, so. When the ice shifts, so you can ride on the ice, oh my God, it's so cool. Well, I went on the, the super moon.
• 12:14
When it was coming up at the same time that the- Just last, last week?... uh, sun was setting. Yeah... I mean beaver moon. It was great. Was it the beaver moon? It was a beaver moon. It was also a super moon, though.
• 12:23
Yeah, well beaver moons are super moons. All are, are they? But they're thirsty. But it was the birth... The th- was the beaver thirsty, like in Crestwood, Illinois? [laughs] At The Thirsty Beaver. [laughs] Okay.
• 12:33
Hey, it's a, it's a bar. It's like Chicago, The Crafty Beaver. Ah, lots of beavers. There's also, uh- Speaking of Chicago, what do you guys think about the Solemn Oath coming into the 1840? Just saw that.
• 12:44
That's interesting, 'cause they're, they're a big brewery. I mean, for a microbrewery. Yes. Yeah. Oh yeah, that's the one that's like next to the dog, the pet store. Yeah. Yes. Right. Okay.
• 12:58
'Cause I was getting that place and the 1846- They're a big brewery in Illinois. We'll see how they do in Wisconsin... whatever's across from Manitowoc.
• 13:03
Where, where Cafe India is on that corner, um, KK and- Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah... and Ward Street. Yeah, right around the corner where the old- Yeah... the old, um, yeah, um- 1840... 1840, yeah. Oh.
• 13:13
Used to be my buddy's bike shop, actually. Yeah, Bigfoot? It used to be Bigfoot. Mm. Yeah. Well, Bigfoot, you're right. Yeah? It was a skate shop. Yeah. It was a skateboard and bike shop. Brian's shop. Yeah. Right on.
• 13:22
I'm looking at, uh, JK's Strummerfest shirt. Oh, that's cool. Uh, I happened to run across this. So Strummerfest raised $4,065. Right on. For the MPS music programs. Going right to them. That they donate to.
• 13:39
And then- They purchase the shirt with the appropriate size factored this time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's n- I don't have the s- in- No... I don't have the sausage casing.
• 13:47
[laughs] Like I did the year before, where it's like, "Okay, maybe I should drop a pound or three or five or... Oh, no. Nope, nope, nope." [laughs] Right on. Yeah. Good stuff. Good, good fundraising.
• 14:00
Uh, hey, shout-out to Steve, just in case he's listening. He's never listening. He just- [laughs]... gives us thumbs up. Esteban Terrapin. Yeah, the turtle Steve.
• 14:11
[laughs] Still think it's hilarious that I ran into those people who were coming to, Friday night coming to a show. So I Reddit. These people said, "You know, hey, Airbnbs and hotels are too expensive in Milwaukee.
• 14:24
If we bring a trailer, can we park somewhere in Riverwest without getting in trouble?" And everyone's like, "Yeah, you'll be fine." And I'm like, "Well, if you want, you can stay in... I have a slab.
• 14:35
You can just park your trailer there, but it's small, and everything'll be fine." S- Saturday afternoon, I come to pick up Cleone from work. I'm sitting here. These people have a couple of dogs.
• 14:46
I, of course, have to go pet a couple of dogs, and they ask me about WMSC. And I'm like, "Oh, it's the greatest radio station in the world." And they're like, "Well, we're not from around here."
• 14:56
And all of a sudden I look at them. I'm like, "Were you at the Falcon Bowl for a show last night?" They're like, "How'd you know that?" I'm like, "Did someone offer to let you park in their slab?"
• 15:06
And this lady looks at me. I'm like, "That was me." She's like, "What?" [laughs] I'm like, "I had a feeling when I woke up Saturday morning I was gonna run into you guys, and I'm so happy I ran into you at Amorphic.
• 15:18
You picked the right brewery." [laughs] This lady was just like, she was the... She had, she was so excited. So was I, but like, just really cute that, you know, Reddit, this completely random community.
• 15:30
[laughs] And they are just like, "We're from Michigan." They can listen to it l- live streaming- Like, they, they told me-... on wmsd.org... they sent me a text that they were streaming it. Right on. So there you go.
• 15:40
Oh, cool. Oh, cool. I think that's a, that'd be a great fundraising thing for them, to reach out to all the people that listen on streaming, because I don't- Right... think they're really hitting that yet hard.
• 15:49
Judging from the pickup on Sunday, uh, the majority of the crowd that appears to be supporting WMSC and picking up schwag for being supporters are our age. Yeah. So we need to bring some... Molly said this months ago.
• 16:04
I was like, we- Or years ago... we need to get some young people- Yeah... listening to WMSC. Boogie Bang and stuff, that's young people stuff. So our- It's a different crowd.
• 16:13
There's also the guys that talk incessantly on- Oh, Nonpop... is it Tonight? Nonpop. Yes. They're great, but shut up and play some music.
• 16:23
[laughs] They go off on tangents after tangent, and I'm like- [laughs] Wait a second. Are you talking- You've been talking way too much... I mean, you're talking about other stuff.
• 16:29
I'm sorry, this is sounding terribly familiar. [laughs] Right? But still, we're not playing music. I'm tuning in to listen. In my head I am. Well, you always are. [laughs] My opinion, Tom Wander is the worst.
• 16:40
That guy- You don't like Tom Wander, huh? I love his show. But he does- I just wish he would just not talk as much as he does. [laughs] He goes on, he talks about himself.
• 16:47
Well, especially following Eric Von Mundt, who talks nut at all. Well... [laughs] He cuts in once an hour. "This is what I played. This is... I love you guys." He's right on to the next song. I'm like- True.
• 16:58
Though those are the best. Yes, they are. Um- Good stuff... but yeah, I love his music, but, uh, you know, like, I can't. He'll, he'll talk about stuff that, you know, just random things about himself.
• 17:10
And then he knows his stuff. He knows- Yeah... the music, he knows the musicians, and all that information's great, but, you know- Time to play some music... play some tunes and- Come back and talk after...
• 17:20
pique my interest. I agree. Give, give me my 15 minutes of Felon Couty. [laughs] Yeah. That's- Right?... all, Jamal is the best. Jamal is always great. Yeah. He's absolutely the best. That is the best. All right.
• 17:29
I think before we do our next show probably is coming up two things on the same day, and then another one another day later. Santa Cycle Rampage. Ding. December 6th. Yes. Also, Global Fat Bike Day. Yes.
• 17:47
December 6th. Then December 7th is the Shell Track race up in Manitowoc. Oh, that's so fun. I thought that was the same- Shell Track... weekend as, uh, Frost Bike. Yeah, no, February. Have you ever done that one?
• 17:57
[laughs] No, have not. Shell Track, it's, it's a really fun event up in Manitowoc that- Manitowoc... uses the Silver Lake Park? Is that what it's called? Silver Lake Park. Yeah. Sounds right.
• 18:07
And they, so they go through the park. It's got some nice ravines, so there's some elevation change, and then you're down on the beach for however much beach they have. Yeah.
• 18:15
Which is probably like- And then you gotta climb those fucking stairs... it's like a half a mile or... You can climb up alongside the stairs- Ah... if you're really strong. Do you need studded tires for that one?
• 18:22
Uh, well, depends on the con- No, you can do without. I've done it without for years.
• 18:25
Yeah, because we haven't had snow for years, but- There's a Pabst drop You can either take the full ride or you can slam a Tallboy of Pabst and do a crazy ass descent- Oh, yeah...
• 18:34
which everyone stands and watch you try to do. It's a shortcut. It's a shortcut, but it's- Yeah, you slam-... treacherous... you slam the beer at the bottom of it. No, up top. No.
• 18:43
Uh, well, it's- You gotta do it at the top and then go down... it was at the bottom before too, so- Oh... it's changed. Uh- Well, maybe, maybe you get both. Yeah, maybe.
• 18:50
[laughs] If you make it to the bottom, you get a reward. This is when you follow Luns. Yeah. [laughs] DFL, don't follow Luns. [laughs] Yeah, 'cause you won't take that.
• 18:57
If it's a fun ride, you should, you should definitely go to that one. Oh, no, I don't know about that one. It's, it's put on by the guys from Broken Spoke up in- Okay... Green Bay. Oh, nice. Man Bear Pig.
• 19:05
Or- And what, what's the date on that again? Suamico these days. December 7th. Okay. Sunday the 7th. Yeah. And I think it gets underway at a reasonable hour, like 11:00- Yeah...
• 19:14
so you don't have to get out of bed- You're done by 3:30... too early to drive out there. [laughs] So that's the next day after the Santa Rampage. After the Santa Rampage- Yeah... slash Global Fat Bike Day. Hmm.
• 19:22
Which by the way, listeners, listener, if you guys have an event out there that's not on the fatbike.com Global Fat Bike Day event page, let us know. The registry. I haven't found a ton this year.
• 19:33
I found maybe a dozen so far. It's n- it's not like the heyday, but I still think there's a lot of them out there we don't have listed on the page.
• 19:41
And a lot of people are, you know, just impromptu doing rides on that day. Hmm. There's been, yeah, talk about moving it later, like in January.
• 19:50
Why don't we put Global Fat Bike Day in January where a lot of places have snow by then? As long as it's not the same time as Slimy Cre- or not Slimy Cret, uh- Uh-... it's Frozen Snot. But that's New Year's Day, right?
• 20:00
Yes. [laughs] Slimy Crets. And of course- That's the big one in Madison- Of course... Slimy Crets. Fr- Frost Bike is back this year at QBP, which is a, with like a dealer show. Guess what day it's on? February 26th.
• 20:14
Guess what's that day? Biggest bike race in the country for fat bikes. Oh, Birkie. Yeah. It's the same day as Fat Bike Birkie. Fools. How tone deaf are those idiots for putting it on the same day as the Fat Bike Birkie?
• 20:26
Well, they'll find out this year when no one shows. [laughs] Well, it's not like every- [laughs] Yeah, I don't know. That's kind of interesting. Why isn't anyone here? Uh, Birkie. 'Cause they're at the Fat Bike Birkie.
• 20:34
I would not forgo, I, you know, I would not forgo going to the Fat Bike Birkie to go to Frost Bike, for sure, so even though it might be in our best interest to go to Birkie. Is that Minnesota? Where's Frost Bike?
• 20:45
Yeah, Minneapolis. Minneapolis, yeah. Bloomington. You would think with a Minneapolis based, uh, company that runs- They would have some sort of concept of the Birkie...
• 20:55
that race, they would, yeah, know better than to have something like that. Yeah, that's... Yeah, I don't know. The guy, the guy that's the CEO now is not a bike industry guy. Hmm.
• 21:03
I don't know how much comes directly from him, but- Hmm...
• 21:06
since Steve Flagg retired as actively running the joint a few years back, they've got a guy that, I don't know where he came from, but he did not come from the cycling industry.
• 21:16
Maybe an outdoor adjacent industry or something, but whatever. I don't know. I don't order much from them anymore anyway, 'cause we're not doing a ton of work in the shop, but...
• 21:25
Like that, uh, framed mothership place that had all the- Oh, that was so cool... that had all the, uh, uh, what- The heads... the, yeah, the taxidermy heads. [laughs] Yeah. Oh, wow. Oh my God.
• 21:36
[laughs] They had like buffalo and elk and... But guess what? They're bankrupt now, so- Mm-hmm... where'd all those heads go? Somebody's got- Someone's basement...
• 21:44
somebody's got those heads in their, in their lodge- Man cave... their hunting lodge somewhere. Yeah. A, a, a girl I used to hang out with in, uh, high school- Are you sure Steve doesn't have them?
• 21:53
Her dad had- Yeah, maybe He's got every sign from everywhere else.
• 21:56
[laughs] Speaking of though- He was all at taxidermy, and it would be like, okay, it'd be like, okay, you know, "Hey, we're, y- are you here to pick up my daughter?
• 22:05
Yeah, why don't you join me down here in the, uh, in the rec room?"
• 22:09
And it was just like he had a, you know, taxidermy bear, you know, like, [laughs] I mean, like shit that he like went and killed just to like establish his dominance. [laughs] It was like, yeah.
• 22:19
Was it George Bush killed- I love-... where he just went to a game farm and watched something damn near die and like, "You're dead, I killed you."
• 22:27
[laughs] Just- You were 10 minutes away from being dead to start with, asshole. [laughs] Oh, God, it got political all of a sudden just like that. Oh my goodness. Right at the top of the hill.
• 22:36
[bell ringing] We've had, he's been mentioning the top of the hill repeatedly. I was waiting- I know... for you to do that. Well, here it goes. Well, we're here. Well, we're here. Well, we ain't broken.
• 22:44
Uh- [laughs] We had, we had Doolin beers today. JK brought in the, uh, Founder's All Day West Coast. Eh. A, uh, session West Coast, uh, style IPA. Flavorful and easy drinking. Easy drinking. Yeah.
• 22:58
After, after the- Corey brought in- After the hot ride yesterday and subsequent shenanigans- Oh, yes... I could use an easy drinking beer. No doubt. Indeed. Literally. Those are- [laughs]
• 23:09
That is- Yeah, I like the Indeed beers. That's- What is the, uh- Really tasty. I haven't had what's the Indeed... good pale ale. There's a pale ale also? Yeah, it's a pale ale, a Day Tripper, 5.4.
• 23:19
45 international- Bitter... bitter- I think it's time for pale ales-... units... to come back into vogue. Totally. I'm ready. You know?
• 23:27
I mean, you know, the industry way back, that's what they did, and then all of a sudden IPAs became more the, you know- Let's get drunk really fast... the standard of what a craft brewery was about.
• 23:37
But a, a pale ale, if you can make a good lager or you can make good pilsner, if you can make a really good pale ale- You're in business, man... you're in business. Yeah, I mean, that's just the best. You know- Agreed...
• 23:45
IPAs are easy. You just throw a boatload of fucking hops in there, you're ready to go. I've had some pretty bad IPAs. Yeah, I don't know. At 4.7%, it's, how, I thought IPAs had to be 6% or above. Well, this is a session.
• 23:57
Session. Okay. Well, still, still a pale ale, right? I think a session IPA and a pale ale are pretty close. Well, it's got the palm tree look- Session West Coast... so it, it- Yeah.
• 24:08
[laughs] It's, it's- Citra, C hop forward and refreshing. Yeah. It's a very, um- Excuse me... Miami Vice looking can. Yeah. Except for the- It is totally different than that though.
• 24:17
Let me know what you think, 'cause you've had this now. Hmm. Flavorful and easy drinking. This is definitely easy drinking. It's got like- 35 Right? That's-... international- Yeah... bitter girlfriend units.
• 24:29
[laughs] These are- It's a lot more like a beer. Yeah. You don't have, you don't have one of those anymore. No, that's, yeah. Had the, uh- Yeah, these are- Had the- They have wife units... those are all right.
• 24:37
The Day Tripper's are pretty tasty. And you don't feel like you're- Did, did you survive after getting home last night? [laughs] No. Wrecking your taste buds- Oh, yes... at the same time. Yeah. Right.
• 24:45
You kind of like IPAs and- [laughs] You guys rode last night, on a Monday? Well, we, we went to the Hop. The Hop. You know, we rode out- You went to the Hop? We rode- I, I heard your shout-out. The Hip- Yeah...
• 24:53
the Hippie and the Hop. I didn't hear- Yeah... I didn't hear. I heard Paul Atwater there, too. It sound like it was a good time. Yeah, uh, JK, Zito, and I jumped on the train with our bikes,
• 25:03
which was kinda fun because they- Just stay on 'em? Well, guess where they were set up? Where you park the bikes?
• 25:09
Yeah, in the main part of the car where you'd normally put the bikes, so like- So there were two- Hunk- There were two hooks... two hooks available. And not... And I didn't have a chair for no reason.
• 25:18
When I worked downtown- So I just, I was-... that was a godsend in really cold weather... I made, I made my own for a minute. Mm. And then I'm like, "Wait a minute," then I just flipped it BMF style. Okay. Yeah.
• 25:25
I ride the fat bike on- And then I'm like, "Wait, this works. Yes." Literally st- I didn't even have to get off of it. I could sit on my fat bike, hold the rail.
• 25:33
It would de-thaw the snow and salt off my bike enough- [laughs]...
• 25:37
that when I got to Gold's Pick 'n Save, I could ride out and just ride straight down, it's not Ho- Van Buren, catch the, the Marsupial Bridge and be home. Like, this is a great fucking multi- intermodal commute. Mm-hmm.
• 25:53
Yeah. Yeah. Like- Well, you're one of the few people that uses it regularly. I used to use it- Or used it regularly... all the time. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it was great. Yeah. Yeah. I, Corey, you've been on it a time or five.
• 26:03
Yeah, not many times. My buddy lives across the street from that Van Buren Pick 'n Save, and so we hopped it a couple times to, uh... Where we took it down basically like where Nomad would be.
• 26:15
We had to hop off and walk a little bit, but we were like, "You know, this is great." Um, my wife and I used it, I don't know. There was one night where we were like, "We're going from one place to another,"
• 26:27
um, maybe towards like the Riverside. Right. We- Yeah... you can take it up towards that, you know, and none of it's
• 26:34
direct per se, but like, we were like, "If we walk a block, we can take it for f- six blocks and then walk a block or two." Right. Right. Perfect, yeah. You know? We would do it for, uh, shows at the Riverside.
• 26:43
We would park at the Pick 'n Save, Gold's Pick 'n Save- Yeah... hop on there, ride right down. Oh. Show would end, get back on it, [laughs] head right back. Yeah. That's- It's like, I didn't have to pay for parking.
• 26:52
I didn't- That's a great tip, man. Yeah. I love that. Yeah. It's like, it was great for that. That's how I've used it. Absolutely. But yeah, getting on there quick- You can go to Fort Mason and have some wings...
• 26:59
to de-thaw your bike. [laughs] Yeah, right? Yeah. Getting on there to quick de-thaw your bike, though, and, and just hop back off is like, "This is cool."
• 27:06
I actually haven't thought about it for like show purposes, but that makes so much sense. Yeah. Mm. It's great for that stuff. Well- I like that the Milwaukee Journal actually, you know, publicized how w-
• 27:18
much development has gone on around that whole route. You know- Mm... the business district, you know, d- y- you gotta, you know- And it's not for us... give it two of the, uh, to- It's for tourists. It's for...
• 27:31
I love it. I mean, I use it, but- Yeah... but it is- Yeah. There's been a lot of gripes about, "Oh, it's not sustainable, it's not gonna be good for the community," and like, it's not intended for the community.
• 27:39
But millions of dollars of- It's intended for tourism... development on that- Right. Exactly... on that line. Right. And it would not have happened probably if that line had not been there. Exactly.
• 27:48
So- And, and having it go down to the lakefront now at Couture is a big deal- Yeah. Yeah... because that's- Yeah... that's dropping you off at Summerfest.
• 27:54
I mean, you can get off bloody at the Wicked Hop, walk out, jump on that fucking thing- Mm-hmm... take it to, you know, Pick 'n Save, walk around to Why Not Too, something like that. Mm-hmm.
• 28:03
Obviously I drink a lot, 'cause I've- Yeah, you're naming every bar... just keep naming all the bars that are on there. [laughs] Right. Speaking of Why Not Too, we were in there yesterday- I bet you were...
• 28:10
and there was, there was a ton of Eagles... Well- Oh, yeah... it's a gaggle of Eagle fans- All of them, yeah... Eagle fans... who were headed up to the game, which- I haven't been to there since Sarah Jo-...
• 28:19
it wasn't much of a game... didn't work there anymore. I miss Sarah Jo. It was- You've been to, uh, Your Office yet? I've not been to the new Your Office. Straight up. We were there yesterday. I was also there yesterday.
• 28:28
Yeah, I, I stopped in last week Tuesday. Holy shit. How is it? It was good. It's good. It was fantastic. Yeah. I had a fried bologna sandwich. I haven't had a fried bologna sandwich- I was tempted... like ages.
• 28:36
Ooh, that sounds good. And I was like, "This is so cool." [laughs] It's a very limited menu, but what's on it is- Yeah... is good stuff, and hopefully they just- That's how all menus should be. Yeah, yeah.
• 28:44
Yeah, make it limited and make what you make well. Yeah, make what you make well. Yes. Don't do a crappy job on 100 things- Right... do a good job on 10. Right. Right. Totally. And the bartender was outstanding.
• 28:52
That, that cat was just so on top of everybody that walked in, and super friendly, not snarky. They open at 7:30 in the morning. You know, no attitude, just happy as shit. And that's a rarity.
• 29:03
So you can go, go to Zad's- Yeah, 7:30 in the morning, and they have food... yeah, [laughs] and then you can head over there. Better food than Zad's, for sure. They have breakfast food. And get a Bloody Mary.
• 29:10
At 7:30 in the morning. Oh, fuck, I gotta do that. At Your Office? Yeah. Oh, I gotta do that. Yeah, 7:30 to 11:00 is breakfast. That sounds like a great way to start a day. Wow. Yeah. I gotta s- plan some vacation.
• 29:22
Yeah, for real, dude. Drop the kid off at school, just ride down there from there. You might, you and I could south of Wisconsin Avenue. Yeah, I'm okay with that.
• 29:28
[laughs] Let's turn it right back around, stop at Nomad on the way home. [laughs] Yeah, it's- Get a nap in, kiss my kid through school. It's, it's between Wells and Mason. It's not south of Wisconsin Avenue.
• 29:38
I know where it is. You don't have to worry about it. It's a half- It's right by WMSD headquarters, baby. It's a half a block from my dad's old office. It comes with a big hunk o' cheese. Oh, nice.
• 29:49
[laughs] Also, I think every happy hour- And a sli- and a slice of bacon Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's- Every, um, happy hour from 3:00 to 5:30 is dollar hot dogs and $2 hans. And $3 showers. At Your Office. Oh, shit.
• 30:01
Yeah, and they were pretty decent dogs, too. They weren't real crap dogs. I mean, no, I mean, they were- 3, 3 to 5? Well, they're not crappy expensive beef dogs. The- They were just regular- Right. They were just-...
• 30:10
shitty outta your fridge, but the bun was good... yeah, for sure. Oh, sure. Spongy bread, br-br-br. Yeah, good stuff. You know, nothing, nothing special, just something to soak up- I don't know... the booze.
• 30:16
The first two I got, the bun wasn't cooked at all, which was fine with me, and the second one had been toasted. I'm like, "Well, why, why'd you change it?" What are we doing here, man?
• 30:24
[laughs] Also the dog was grilled or f- whatever instead of maybe boiled. Boiled. [laughs] I don't know. It was fine, though. Yeah. There was a chef- Sometimes a boiled hot dog rules The shift changeover at like 4:00.
• 30:38
[laughs] Now they're all getting beer. Well, that, that could be because that's about when we were there. Mm-hmm. Like it says.
• 30:42
We went there, waited for a bit, figured out where the Hop was, went to the Hop, got on that, did a tour, did Why Not, went back over there at 3:00 for hot dogs. [laughs] We're okay with that.
• 30:53
Sounds like you guys had a great day. Yeah, it was a good day. Yeah, it sounds like a good Monday. Yeah, it was. Yeah, until the we- till we watched the Packer game. Yeah. Uh, did- Did they lose? Yeah. Yeah.
• 31:03
But did you see the Jason Kelce thing today? He said that if the refs had been on their game, the Eagles wouldn't have won. [laughs] Good on Kelce. Was that right? Yeah, right?
• 31:11
He says there were so many bad calls with- Right... the Eagles would not have won. Does he w- play for the Eagles? He did play for the Eagles. Oh, okay. Yeah, he's a commentator now.
• 31:18
He's Taylor Swift's boyfriend's t- uh- Brother... brother. Mm. Oh, yeah. Future brother-in-law. Future brother-in-law. Yeah. Yeah, he's a Swiftie too, I bet. [laughs] That's funny. Oh, yeah.
• 31:29
Well- I would, I would be- No... if I was gonna get some of that, both cash and otherwise.
• 31:33
Well- But- [laughs] Oh, when he was with the Eagles, and he was the center, and Jalen Hurts was the quarterback, and the running back was, uh, DeAndre Swift.
• 31:46
So they had all lined up in a row, and it was Kelce, Hurts, Smith. [laughs] Oh. Or, or K- or, yeah, Kelce, Hurts, Swift. There it is. Yeah, nice. [laughs] [laughs] I was like, "Whoa." Hot damn. Well, that's cool.
• 31:59
Yeah, but that was like three years before, I think, Travis- No, it was at the beginning of their courtship, I believe... and Taylor started dating. [laughs] Oh, okay.
• 32:11
So- And they weren't as insufferable, the fans at Why Not too, the- They were- They were getting- They were- They were nudging there...
• 32:17
you could tell they had some cash because they had hired a bus to go up there, and then the bus was gonna wait for them and take them back to O'Hare at, so they could get on a flight out to be at s- six in the morning to get home.
• 32:29
Did they catch a red-eye? Yeah. No, six in the m- Yeah... yeah, 6:00 in the morning. But then- They weren't that wealthy or they had their own flight. No, I think their flight got canceled though.
• 32:36
Yeah, 'cause then they're scurrying. So they were ha- they were, they were scurrying to get flights- Boop, boop, boop, boop... whatever, whatever. Boop, boop, boop. Oh, maybe I could get on that one with you.
• 32:42
No, you, you got one for you. Do, do, do, do, do, do. Aw. It's like, "Oh." Aw. Yeah. Here's, here's the- Yeah, my son was flying- I was rolling a tear... out to New York, and it got canceled last night. 2100 flights.
• 32:51
So they had to reschedule for this morning. Um, yeah, and that was the direct flight too. Um, it, it's a shit show out there right now. Yeah. Well, hopefully it gets back on track.
• 33:02
Here's a, here's a question for the band guy. Okay.
• 33:05
Well, plus also he's a drummer because, uh, I don't know if you listen to the show with Mike McAbee on, we were talking about how he does like a three-hour set and never takes a break.
• 33:14
He's like, "Well, the only reason you gotta take a break is 'cause the drummer's tired." [laughs] And he's like, "Otherwise, if you take a break, everybody leaves.
• 33:23
So while you're doing your half-hour thing, people walk out, and not many people replace them." Um, is it, you do, you get tired and you gotta take a break? It's like the most, uh- You know, it's-...
• 33:32
strenuous part of the band playing members? Oh, it's easily the most strenuous. Um, you know, if, if we're going, and normally our... You've seen Robits. Robits plays 17 minutes. Yeah.
• 33:46
Future Plans plays 25 to 27 minutes. Okay. Um, if, but if, you know, like either one of those bands was like, "You need to play 45 minutes. You need to play an hour"- Fuck you... I'm sure I could do it.
• 34:03
He's- I'm just never put in that position. I mean, when, when Future Plans- Then you'd look, then you'd look like Scotty off Buffin. Yeah. [laughs] When Future Plans practices- Peeling layers off. Whoop, whoop, whoop...
• 34:11
you know, we, we practice much longer than Robits. Robits, like, we run through our set. We work on a new song or whatever. We're done in an hour. Yeah. Good. You know, and we're bullshitting in between and whatever.
• 34:24
Um, Future Plans does a lot of bullshitting too, but, like, our songs are a little bit more, like, a little bit more, like, uh, demanding, like on my aspect.
• 34:34
They're not as fast, but, um, there's more fills, and there's more, like, complicated parts. Besides you, are there any common members- No... to the two at? Okay. Nope. Um- I know I've seen Future Plans before- Mm-hmm...
• 34:48
but not as often as Robits. Just seems like there's not as much opportunity. What happened to the Knack band? Oh, the Knack cover band? Yeah. That was a, we played three shows. And
• 34:58
w- we were only supposed to play two, and then like a year went by, and we were asked to play, like, some '80s cover band night in Madison.
• 35:06
So we played, uh, we played a show in Madison, one in Green Bay, and one in Milwaukee. I saw them- Very nice... I saw them at the Oriental Theater back in the olden times. The Knack? The Knack. Wow. Oh, no way.
• 35:17
The Knack is phenomenal. Those guys are serious musicians- It's one way to put it... although only two of them are no longer alive. Uh,
• 35:27
is it Bruce Gary, the drummer, he passed away, and then the guitarist, the main guitarist and songwriter, he passed away.
• 35:37
When, uh, when the Knack cover band was going, I got in touch with the rhythm or the lead guitarist, and I was kinda corresponding with him a little bit.
• 35:47
And then I sent him a video, and he's like, "I don't even know what to say." [laughs] And I don't, and I don't know- Was he-... like, if that was a good- He hated it or he liked it...
• 35:54
or, I don't know if it was good or bad or, or what. W- He was, he was pretty, he was a pretty much a nice guy. Um- Were you, were you in period correct, uh, garb? Yeah.
• 36:04
Yeah, we all wore, like, skinny ties and, like, white shirts. Very good. And, uh- Wow... I think- Maybe he moved on. Yeah. I mean, he's, he doesn't seem like he's really playing too much anymore.
• 36:19
Um- No, it's 45 years ago or something. Right. That's a long time ago. Yeah, he's in his 70s. I have that album. I have the original press of that album. Did he only put out that one album?
• 36:28
No, they put out- Well, a couple... like five albums. Okay. Uh, the first one though is phenomenal. Yeah. Get The Knack. It's, that's a top, I don't know if it's top 20, but it's, it's right up there for me.
• 36:41
Top 30 probably. I had to, I, I had to put the finger on, on Billy at, uh, Rushmore. I said, uh, "I need to get a, a tube, the 1975 tubes, The Tubes because- Oh, yeah... mine is all wore out." And I was just...
• 36:58
I had listened to a song or two yesterday, and I was like, "Damn it, I need that on vinyl again." [laughs] We have, we have our Knack cover band, both sets from Green Bay and in Milwaukee.
• 37:10
Um, but they're only on my Facebook page, which is no longer active. [laughs] Oh, yeah. And that's where we're gonna end with that. Right on.
• 37:20
[laughs] End, end, end that conversation part, but, um- So you don't ha- you don't have it otherwise? Um, I can go back into Facebook at some point and retrieve it, but I'll, I'll be doing that incognito mode. Right on.
• 37:32
I'm not gonna announce my re-arrival. [laughs] Imminent arrival. All right. Uh, Joe, what do you got? Anything coming up we should know about that we haven't talked about, cycling or otherwise? Uh, well, let's see.
• 37:49
Uh, Birkie's coming up. Uh, guys are trying to talk me into doing a Birkie and doing a half Birkie. Oh, on the skis, not on the bike? Yeah. On the, on the bike and both. Oh, okay.
• 37:58
And a Nokeman too is the other event that they're trying to talk me into. I'm sitting on a fence for both of those events and, uh, you know, other than that- Two serious events, man... no, not really.
• 38:10
Um, you know, just, I, today was all riding, getting on the river trail. It's a great time to get on the river trail. Yeah, it's nice. I rode a little bit today. It's pretty dry. They did a really nice job- Yeah...
• 38:18
on that, um, um, dam reconstruction in Estabrook Park. Dam reconstruction. Yeah. Yeah. Dam reconstruction.
• 38:25
You know, now the fish can swim up river and the fishermen can get in there- Yeah, they did a whole bunch of stuff... dude, they're spawning... you know, swept down river and- Oh, they're spawning? Yeah.
• 38:33
No, they actually did a really nice job down there. I'll, I'll give it to them. Did you, uh- And I, three bucks. What? A eight-pointer, two six-pointers, and a- Oh. Wow... flock of turkeys.
• 38:43
There's all these coyotes down there too. Yeah. You just don't see them often. No, you, you think you're in the middle of the north woods down there. Yeah. I do like that for the- Yeah... you know.
• 38:51
You know, best time of year to ride down there. I like it when it's snowing and it's, uh, or it has snowed, and the trail is packed down enough because it gets really smooth and nice in the winter. Yeah, it does.
• 39:01
Yeah, I ran into Tim Eikanger from Black Husky, and he was hiking. And we were talking, and he goes, "Yeah, I've only been down here a couple of times." He goes, "I can't believe how nice it is down here." Yeah.
• 39:10
I said, "Yeah, it's like being, you know, in the middle of the wilderness in the middle of the city." Yeah, it's, it's beautiful down there. You know, your back door- Yeah... you know, you got- Right...
• 39:18
the nicest playground- It's right there... you can have. Do you, uh, Strava your rides or you just go out and ride? No, I just go out and ride. Yeah. So you don't, you don't have an idea, like your yearly mileage?
• 39:26
You don't keep track of that too much? Nope, I- Fuck that... I, I just go, did I have a good day- It's more than-... or not... all of us combined. Yeah. Oh, he definitely rides more than all of us combined.
• 39:34
[laughs] But still, fuck that Strava shit. No, I've never, uh, I've never, uh- KOM. KOM, man... although, have s- have you heard anything from- I, I have never done a miles-... Craig Smith? How's he doing? No. Who, huh?
• 39:44
Craig. Craig, Craig, Craig. I have... I mean, he was hardcore mileage re- recorder. I- Mm-hmm. Is he okay? Uh, he had some muscular- Yeah. Well, he's-... disease and-... he can't really ride that much anymore...
• 39:54
no, he's got some fancy thing. The Umo, yeah. Yeah. That he does go out on trails with, but, um, yeah, I haven't heard from him for a few years. Oh. Probably since before COVID, like a lot of stuff.
• 40:05
I've, I've chatted back, 'cause he's a musician, I've chatted back with him a little bit since COVID, but he was offering like a 17 and a half pound American-made Cannondale that he bought as a road bike,
• 40:22
and decided he didn't like it enough, so he made it into basically a bar bike. But he's like, "But after doing all the work, it's 16.9 pounds." I'm like- Wow... "For a bar bike?"
• 40:35
Well, when you make stuff out of beer cans, how, how heavy are they gonna be? Right? [laughs] I'm like, "Wow." Uh, one of Lunz's best repairs on a f- bike frame ever was his...
• 40:45
It was a Teasdale that was an aluminum one, and it was made out of like the lightest Easton you could get. It was really light.
• 40:52
And it had the water bottle mounts, but he'd used it to put one of those old school big-ass batteries for lights. So it was way heavier than a bottle of water. Bro.
• 41:03
And after wobbity, wobbity, wobbity, it tore the thing open- Oh... almost like you can tear a can. Oh, geez. So it got repaired with, say it with me- Steel... a beer can. Of course.
• 41:15
Yes, epoxy and a beer can, wrapped it around there and rode it for a, quite a w- while longer. It may still have that same repair. Dave's got a new bike. Did you see it? Yes, he got a Wyatt for a- He got it...
• 41:25
hell of a deal. It's a- I'm worried-... 650B? What is it? No, it's a, it's a fat bike. Is it? Well, it is 27.5. Doesn't- Okay. You don't do 650B on a fat bike. Okay.
• 41:36
But I'm getting those wheels because he wants 26 inch, and well, we're not on video- You can fit it. Yeah... so I don't have to show them, but I've got the, the Billy, uh, Flamingo 27.5- Tires to put on them...
• 41:46
studded tires to put on those wheels, which is why I need those wheels. So yeah, we can show, we can show them to Joey. He'd call Jones in on those. Yeah. Oh. Are, are your wheels 26 or 27.5 on your fat bike? 26.
• 41:58
Okay, so you can't use them. Although, I could give you the wheels and you could test them out. Uh, they're Mule, Mulefoots. On your bike? Yeah.
• 42:05
Yeah, so you've got a 197 50- I heard he's running them, uh, I heard he's running them, um- I can give you the wheels-... boob free too... and you can test them. What's that? Okay.
• 42:12
I heard he's running them boob free too. Who? Boob free. Yeah. Tubeless. Huh? Tubeless. How's that boob free? 'Cause it sounds good. [laughs] I'm running tubeless even on my- Boob free...
• 42:27
gra- my gra- gravel/touring bike is tubeless. Boob free. I get a flat the third time out on that bike, and I'm on tubes.
• 42:35
And I had to, like, carry the thing out of Estabrook Park, and I went up to the old Rainbow Jersey on Wilson Drive. And the guy goes, "Maybe you wanna upgrade to a tubeless tire." I'm like,
• 42:46
"Okay, well, how do I do that?" And so he gives me the kit[laughs] And the tape and the whole, sells me the whole nine yards and tells me how to do it
• 42:56
And you did it So I went and did it, and I've been tubeless ever since on that bike. And that goes back- Tubeless... 12, 13 years already maybe. That's a long time Maybe even longer.
• 43:03
Have you taken the tires off and gotten rid of the big old Stans big booger in there? Um, yeah, one of, one of them I have. [laughs] And then, uh- Yeah...
• 43:09
I had the fork repaired, so, uh, um, that bike shop that did repair work, they swapped it over, probably cleaned it all out, re-taped it.
• 43:18
But it was funny, I, I had, um, a broken spoke, and I took it to Eric's Bike Shop in Bayshore, and the, the lady that was the mechanic there at the time, she's like, "Well, I don't have the tape for you." I said, "Okay."
• 43:32
"And I can't get the tape for you." I said, "Why? You sell Rocky Mountain bikes." "Well, I gotta go through corporate commissary out of Minneapolis," and blah, blah, blah. She said, "You should just buy the tape online."
• 43:47
That's Team Twinton. I know who this person is. Yeah. And so [laughs] that's what I had to do. So I got the tape, so I'm not, I, I had to do the other tire, and so I, I did, or the other wheel, and as I did.
• 43:57
I'm not bike mechanics like you cats, but you know, but I- Well, you can make a tubeless tire, you're a bike mechanic [laughs] I, I kinda, I kinda muddled through it.
• 44:04
I mean, I've had, you know, episodes with- [laughs]... with, with fat- I have [laughs]... with tubeless tires, man. I'll tell you.
• 44:10
As, as a bike mechanic, I have no problem telling people to do their own fucking tubeless [laughs] because- [laughs]... I swear to God, every time- I don't wanna do it... every time we do a swap over or something,
• 44:20
one sets up just perfectly. It's like, "Oh, that was so easy. I don't know..." And then the other one is like- It's always the second one... "Motherfucker's leaking again."
• 44:29
Everywhere And it's like, "Why are you leaking?" Absolutely. It's just like- I've had that happen to my, on my r- on my road bike... and it, it's never the same thing.
• 44:37
It's the weld on the thing wasn't quite covered by the tape or the, the valves, whatever.
• 44:42
There's so many things that make it, it's, like, frustrating enough to just clean it all off and start fully fresh again and expect- Or-... that this time it will [laughs] actually-... put a tube in it... you know what?
• 44:54
On a fat bike, and especially with h- how thin those tires are and how much hokey stuff there is, I really think if, if any bike that you own is going to be tubeless, it should be a fat bike. Mm. You're right.
• 45:06
Otherwise, there are performance benefits to it on any bike- Mm... on road bikes especially. But I would say, first of all, low air pressure is awesome.
• 45:16
High pressure on road tires, stupid, and also what a pain in the butt. But, uh, like on a, like on a touring bike, instead of running 65 to 80 PSI, you run like 45.
• 45:28
It's so much more comfy, plus a little bit bigger tire, beautiful. True. Or you could be like Eric Colin Ford. And burp the shit out [laughs] of it.
• 45:38
Yeah, and when you're trying to bunny hop into, uh, Wolski's [laughs] Poof. [laughs] Oh, boy. [laughs] And it just, and he just popped it just enough that like the- Did he break his rim? Yeah...
• 45:47
well, he bent it enough so that like the ooze started undulating out, like- Oh, it-... boom, boom, boom, boom... it was a, it was a- It was a fun day... boom, boom, boom, boom. [laughs] Yeah.
• 45:55
It was, it was quite a- It hurt. [laughs] It was like a pulse coming out. [laughs] It was a Zito day. He had a lot of fireworks. [laughs] Yeah. I think that's why we're not allowed- Yeah.
• 46:02
Yeah, I think that was the last-... at that place anymore... I think that was it. [laughs] I think that was the Zito ban. Yeah. You should get a sticker- We got a W-...
• 46:08
I'm banned from Wolski's We got banned from Wolski's. Zito was banned- Well, I-... and then the, the group ride was banned... the Fat Tire Tour, or was it, I think it was Fat Tire Tour. I think it was Fat Tire Tour.
• 46:17
Mm-hmm. Brutal. Yeah. It's gotten too big to go there anyway. Right. Yeah. But- On occasion, I think they do a f- I think they did a flyby like last year or the year before.
• 46:27
Um, speaking of- Most people are done so by the time they get to the end anyway, so. Yeah. That makes sense.
• 46:32
Speaking of big rides, Jake Newborn did wanna say that there's over 700, uh, entries already for the Santa Rampage. Good for- Oh, yeah... well, it's a, it's a fundraiser for the Bike Fed. Yeah.
• 46:42
So it's a good reason, if you really wanna do the full, the full global- Slow-... fat bike Santa day experience. [laughs] Every year I- But it is called Santa Cycle Rampage... it's slow...
• 46:52
every year I tell them that I'm gonna do it, and then every year I find a reason not to. Me too. Mostly, uh, it f- it doesn't leave from Tosa anymore. Yeah. It- Not even Cranky Al's? No.
• 47:02
They don't leave from Cranky Al's? I don't- No, it starts down at the Bike Fed. Yeah. Yeah. At Wheel & Sprocket. All right. Gauter's still does it. Yeah. Yeah. And that's the OGs, so. That's the OG start. Right. Right.
• 47:12
And also- And, and I think they do their, the, the route that they do is from Bay View up to the Hollander- Yeah... and then snapping it- Could be-... snapping it back.
• 47:22
To Lakefront So you could meet at m- midway through. Yeah. They, it ended at the Cooperage one year, I think. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We'll see. We just dive- You know- We bop in and bop out.
• 47:34
We usually hit the Lakefront to Great Lakes. Let's see, once we get to South Side. Yeah. Or something like that. Right. And then we're on our own. Right.
• 47:40
But, um, if you wanna do another one of them, the next weekend, December 13th, is in Madison. That'd be intriguing. Which would be fun because I haven't biked Madison since- I haven't biked Madison in ages...
• 47:50
since Ride the Drive, the old Ride the Drive days. Sure. Why the hell not? No. Uh, through, through the door, down the hall, just look on your right as you're going. You'll, you'll see. Grab a few cans. The potty room.
• 48:01
[laughs] Yeah. Uh, uh, we'll wait till Joe gets back to wrap this sucker up, but, uh- It's right here. Yeah. Uh- It's right here. [laughs] Well, here's one more thing.
• 48:10
If you're in the Milwaukee area, you could do November 20th, which I don't know what day that is. It's, uh- It's a weekend... it's, uh, nine days from now. So it's, uh, it's the winter bike party.
• 48:21
Oh, you know what I could do? I could click on this [laughs] very nice link right here. Yeah. Dumbass. Is that an Ian thing? It's actually- No, it's, uh- Where, I think it's at- It's at Bike Fed...
• 48:30
it's at the Urban Ecology Center. Okay. Which one? Uh- Oh, Riverside... Riverside. Okay. It's Pedal Revolution, Wisconsin Bike Fed, and Milwaukee MKE Critical Mass- Okay... are the events.
• 48:41
I don't know- I wonder if- I don't even know Pedal Revolution, and I'm in the freaking business. Bring it, bring that all back together. Ian is back in town as of yesterday.
• 48:49
He sent me a message 'cause- He's not climbing water towers anywhere? [laughs] No, he's not, but- No, he's [laughs]- He sent me a message-... he's dancing-... when he'd be back. I offered to-...
• 48:55
dancing into blackberry patches nearby. [laughs] Right. [laughs] Did you see his- The river [laughs]... did you see his, uh, stripper name when he was a male stripper? It was awesome... Sebastian.
• 49:04
[laughs] Of course His name was Sebastian No, Daniel's been asking about him And his devil's about- So he sent me a message yesterday. I'm like, "Dude, Daniel's been asking about you. Come on over.
• 49:12
We'll do a sauna hangout." Sauna. There you go. Oh, hey, we... That's one part of the thing we haven't gotten to yet. Oh, sauna update. Saunas with Tony. Sauna. What, what's our... Wait a second.
• 49:20
There was an official name for this, I think. Sauna Talk with Tony. I have had to do a minor repair on my sauna, where I had one warped board- Right...
• 49:31
that I was able to very eas- shockingly easily remove and refit with a non-warped board. Couldn't just flip that bitch around? No, they're, they're... No, you can't. Oh, are they... Oh, they're- They, they don't flip.
• 49:45
They're, they're- They're beveled on the edge Yeah, they're beveled on one side, but I can- Do they give... So they... Do they give you spare boards in the building kit? Yep. Nice. They give you half a dozen, and, uh,
• 49:54
I have to rate, I have to, like, pace myself because people that sauna with me prefer 180 or less. I prefer 195.
• 50:09
So if I have people coming over to sauna, I have to adjust the temperature- How-... to keep it between 180 and 184. Nice. How long do you stay in the sauna? Uh, me personally? Uh, when it's- Just on average...
• 50:24
when it's 190 or 195, I do 10 minutes in, two minutes out, and I do three sets. Okay. And how, how many beers and/or whiskeys do you have in that time? Yeah. I have zero whiskeys and an occasional beer. [laughs] Okay.
• 50:38
Um, it is fantastic. But drinking and saunas do not go well together. When- No, absolutely not. No. Absolutely not. Um- When friends come over, is there any beers involved? Uh, a beer or two in the sauna. Okay.
• 50:49
But the rest of the time we are out, I have a plunge tank. Um, so i- if you wanna go all out, um, and I'm really looking forward to winter, um, you can drop in a cold plunge and- What a sexy-...
• 51:01
spend a couple of seconds... sexy sauna parties over at Tony- There's definitely no sexiness involved in a sauna.
• 51:06
[laughs] I, I'm gonna tell you right now, the last thing you're thinking about doing when you're in there is anything sexy. There you go. [laughs] Um, I love watching my forearms bead.
• 51:17
Like, when I'm in there and it gets to... It, it... When it's, like, 180 and above- That's high... like, your, your arms will literally st- It, it's patterned. It's so... It's, like, artistic.
• 51:29
It, it is literally like I watch my hands, like, sweat, sweat, sweat, sweat, sweat, and then it just goes back and forth. I'm like, "This is cool." [laughs] There's witches in them.
• 51:38
I'll, uh, I'll- There's witches in them saunas. [laughs] Oh, so good. I'll hit you up this winter, maybe Wednesday after a band practice. Oh, it's such a great time, man. But I'm already sweating it out.
• 51:47
[laughs] Sauna sweat out. Oh, you will sweat way harder. I know. Just go roll in the snow after that. Yeah, I put a, a barrel sauna in my backyard. That's sweet. Really cool. Sweet. Yep. I'm- Um-...
• 51:57
I have to come check it out... six, six kilowatt. It, it's, it's... Yeah, it's four person. It can get toasty. Um, I'll get it to trip the, the overload. I can get it so hot that it'll, it'll...
• 52:10
I've got it over, [laughs] over 200 once, and I walked into it. I remember opening the door. I'm like, "Oh, God." [laughs] Oh. And I walked into it. It's that hot. Just crawl into your oven in the kitchen.
• 52:19
Well, you could jump in the snowbank in the back alley- Yeah... you know, when we get enough snow. Love it. You guys can also, uh... [laughs] There's...
• 52:24
Our practice space down at, uh, First and, what, Virginia, that's also a sauna if ever anybody's ever looking for an alternative source with music. [laughs] altsauna- Yeah... dot com.
• 52:37
We, uh, we'll play, like, four songs, five songs, and be like, "We need to go stand outside." [laughs] We're already gonna die. It gets that hot? But it's all humidity. This gets- It's not dry. Oh, this is...
• 52:47
So it's really funny. Treating the wood, like, so you build it, and then it's gotta, you know, expand and contract 'cause it's wood. Mm-hmm. And it i- it...
• 52:57
When I installed it, and had it built, and we started using it, it was sitting at, like, 35% humidity when the sauna wasn't running. Now it's at 65 because the wood has expanded enough that it sat...
• 53:11
When I turn the sauna on, it gets to 75 or better. Yikes. Like, if you make these- I don't even think I could breathe in there. Wow. Oh, it's so great. I love not having room to breathe. It's like a steam room.
• 53:20
[laughs] I love being in a sauna. Oh, I, I- I love being in- I, I will literally crack the door for a second... I mean, steam rooms are bomb. I know. I love a steam room. Oh. Oh. All right, everybody.
• 53:28
Sauna talk with Tony. Yeah. We'll check in, we'll check in next month. Hope, hopefully we got snow on the ground, and you can roll around in it- I sure hope so... for the next sauna talk.
• 53:37
We should do the show inside the sauna. I don't think this gear- You, like, I don't think- Actually, I don't think this equipment could handle it... I don't think the gear could take it. No, but we could step out.
• 53:45
[laughs] We can go in and out and- Right... talk outside, and then- And go back in to-... go back inside. Yep. Yeah. All right, everybody. Hey- I'll just, I'll just be outside smoking grits the whole time. Yeah.
• 53:55
[laughs] It's like, let's do that, man. Oh, I think you might wanna try it. You might like it. You're gonna, you're gonna make me pass out. Everybody else will be in, like, shorts. I, I... Yeah, I'm, I'll be like, "Mm."
• 54:03
JK will just be outside in a snowmobile suit. [laughs] Ripping heaters. Right? [laughs] Rolling, rolling in the snow like the kid in Christmas Story. [laughs] All right. Hey, everybody. We're gonna wrap this one up.
• 54:14
Uh, JK, Tony. Thanks, Corey and Joe. Thanks for having me, as always. Yeah. Yeah. Uh- We'll be back next month. I don't even... Probably... Are we gonna do the second, second week? I don't know. I'm a fan of that.
• 54:26
We'll be in the December zone at some point, but likely just after Global Fat Bike Day/Santa Rampage/- So yeah. Yeah, next week or something. It's all cool, baby. Exactly. All right.
• 54:38
I, I don't wanna be thinking about the holidays too soon. Right. Even though there is the Santa Ride. Now- Early... now we can listen to the AI music. Oh, hey.
• 54:51
  [rock music]
