- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds back, what's going on?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Everybody.
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan here for an Inside
- 0:17the Birds. And it's been a couple of days we've
- 0:19had since we've had our last Inside the Birds.
- 0:22Speaker 2: A lot's happened.
- 0:23Speaker 1: The Eagles had a bunch of practices over the weekend
- 0:25and this is a big week for the Eagles as
- 0:28well as the joint practices with the Cleveland Browns are
- 0:31up on the schedule.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Those are always fun.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Adam, you were at the Sunday night open practice and
- 0:38I don't know what it is about these open practices
- 0:41at night, but it's like sometimes bad things happen, right
- 0:44and unfortunately Landon Dickerson had to get carted off the
- 0:48field and it did not look good. It looked like
- 0:52he had troll putting weight on it. You were there,
- 0:54so you saw the play.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Let's start.
- 0:56Speaker 1: You probably saw the play on person up close and personal.
- 0:59What happened, so it was past protection was late in practice.
- 1:03Speaker 3: The ones went back on the field and he got
- 1:06pushed back and his right leg went he went down
- 1:09right leg injury. We have no I don't speculate. I
- 1:12just don't. I don't know if it's ankle, knee, couldn't
- 1:15tell you, there's no way to tell. So testing today obviously,
- 1:19Brett Toath replaced him. And you know, it's interesting, we've
- 1:23really not talked about what if. You know, we always
- 1:26talk about what's the plant if. I really haven't talked
- 1:29about Dickerson, who's unfortunately and his football playing career, has
- 1:32had several knee injuries, ACLS both. But he had surgery
- 1:39earlier this year for a knee issue. So and yet
- 1:43he was on the injury report briefly with a knee injury.
- 1:46He was not for this practice on Sunday night in
- 1:49front of anywhere between my estimate would be forty to
- 1:52forty five thousand. It was really good crowd, whether it
- 1:55was high eighties by the way, very warm, beautiful. But yeah,
- 1:58he uh, fortunately got hurt. We'll see what the testing
- 2:02shows and we'll give it the in house replacements, guys
- 2:06on the street. We've got a list together of the
- 2:08way the league sees. These guys did some checking and
- 2:12that's that.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I mean, listen, the Eagles knew when they drafted him
- 2:15he had a laundry list of injuries.
- 2:17Speaker 2: He had two knee.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Injuries, including an ACL and he had two ankle injuries,
- 2:21including a tightrope procedure, and that's all before he became
- 2:25an Eagle.
- 2:26Speaker 2: And as you just mentioned, he.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Had a right I think a right or left knee
- 2:30procedure right after the Super Bowl. We all saw him
- 2:32get hurt in the NFC Championship Game then give everything
- 2:36he had in the Super Bowl. So I guess the
- 2:38bad news is is that you know, he's had a
- 2:41lot of injuries, so the wear and tears there. The
- 2:43good news is he always seems to come back. He
- 2:46plays at a high level. He's made the last three
- 2:48Pro Bowls. So, like you said, we won't speculate, we
- 2:51won't know, but he's been through this before. So I
- 2:55don't know if that's a good thing or not, but
- 2:57it feels like, you know, mentally for him, if he
- 2:59has to miss time, you can do it and you
- 3:01can come back, and he's at least shown you can
- 3:02play at a high level when he comes back from
- 3:05these injuries. Who is the guy we were saying, though,
- 3:08there's someone else that was had a bunch of injuries
- 3:10and we will, oh, Nikobe Dean. We say, at some point,
- 3:14you wonder what kind of caliber player you're gonna get
- 3:16when he returns because of all of the wear and
- 3:18tear so so far. Yeah, that has not been an
- 3:20issue for Landing so far.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Yeah, Dickerson, right, ACL in twenty sixteen, left ACL in
- 3:25twenty twenty. You mentioned the ankle Hendrix. Yeah, it's and
- 3:28he's suspened through a lot and he comes back.
- 3:33Speaker 2: But we'll see.
- 3:35Speaker 3: The list is not great in house, it's not good
- 3:38at all. It's it's a matter of what's out there
- 3:40on the street. There's there's actually better options on the
- 3:42street than they're in the house.
- 3:42Speaker 2: To be honest with you, who's on the street. Let's
- 3:45go through someone on.
- 3:46Speaker 3: The street and then we'll go into the in house too.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that part of it.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Normally I would go in house first. But that was
- 3:51an interesting comment you meant me, yeah, because all.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Right, so four guards sign of the last week. I
- 3:57was looking into it. It was like, all right, let
- 3:59me let me see my let me look at my
- 4:00file out see who's signed. I'm like, wow, what's what's
- 4:03going on?
- 4:03Speaker 2: A while?
- 4:03Speaker 3: These Guard signing so the best by far, but there's
- 4:06a caveat Brandon Sheriff terrific player. At one point in
- 4:10his career at thirty three years old near the end.
- 4:12He's been a right guard. So that's the issue there.
- 4:15I'm sure he can play it, but it's you ask
- 4:18him to do something he probably hasn't done. I know
- 4:21he's been he was a guard. He was a right
- 4:23guard only at Jacksonville. Right guard a lot with Washington.
- 4:26I don't know that he's played left guard. So well,
- 4:29we'll see if they if they go that direction. Shack
- 4:33Mason who was drafted by the Patriots, the Texans cut him.
- 4:39He's mostly a right guard. Dalton Reisner has played a
- 4:42lot of left guard. Isaiah Wynn who was drafted by
- 4:46the Patriots. Boy, that was a bad mess by Belichick
- 4:48as a left tackle who's too short, short arms. I
- 4:51don't know what he was thinking there with that one
- 4:53never really worked out. He moved, he moved to guard.
- 4:55He can play left guard, by the way. So the
- 4:57question would be, if it's a long term or season
- 5:01ending injury to Dickerson, would they go to the street,
- 5:06would they or would they make a trade for a
- 5:08guy kind of like they did with ja Corey and
- 5:10Bennett who will get you later in the show. So
- 5:13what we'll see now in house options not very good.
- 5:16Speaker 2: M Well, depends, but yeah, you're right.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I mean compared to a guy like Brandon Sharf Sure
- 5:24or even Shaq Mason. They've had some nice careers, so
- 5:28they have a couple of different options here. The weird
- 5:30thing is they keep going with Brett Toath as like,
- 5:32you know, the first guy off the bench, even though
- 5:35he's never made the team and they've got some draft
- 5:37picks and some veterans. The second team guards have been
- 5:41Toath at left guard and Darrin Knnard at right guard.
- 5:46One thing they could do, you still have them to
- 5:49find somebody, but you could play Tyler Steen at left
- 5:53guard because he has played there before, and then find
- 5:56the right guard, or you keep Tyler Stein at right
- 5:58guard and then play somebody at left guard. Unless there's
- 6:03something we're not seeing, I can't imagine it being toathd
- 6:06I know, we know he struggled at center. He is
- 6:08getting the reps at guard on the second team. That
- 6:11tells you something a little bit. But to me, you
- 6:14know you're looking at Matt Pryor first off the bench.
- 6:17Is a guy who can play guard or Canard. Pryor's
- 6:20got way more experience. But I think most of his
- 6:23guard experiences on the right side at them. So that's
- 6:25why I wonder if maybe they would play him at
- 6:28right guard and then move Steen to left guard.
- 6:30Speaker 3: All right, here we go. So Brett Toat has started
- 6:32one game in his career. It was at right tackle.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Okay, against the Baltimore Ravens. Right remember that game where
- 6:38I say, twenty twenty your starting tackle, you're in trouble
- 6:42and they sure were.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Never forget when you said that and wouldn't know what
- 6:45he started. So Matt Pryor started thirty nine games in
- 6:48his career, twenty five at right guard, ate at right tackle,
- 6:52six at left tackle. He's never started a game at
- 6:54left guard. Trevor Keegan is a left guard. You certainly
- 6:57don't want him starting a bunch of games. Kenyon Green
- 7:00who is bust unfortunately for the Texans as a guard,
- 7:04and he's hurt right now dealing with a shoulder injury,
- 7:07and he had not been a great camp for him.
- 7:09So it's not good now, But we'll see. It comes
- 7:12down to the severity of the injury for Dickerson with
- 7:16the right leg here, if it's long term, you would
- 7:19think most likely it'll be signing somebody or trading for
- 7:23somebody well as the way progresses, depending on what comes
- 7:26out on this. If it's a long term injury, well
- 7:28we'll put a list together of potential guys who could
- 7:31be traded who basically what the Eagles would target then,
- 7:34like they did with Bennett, it's perfect targeting a guy
- 7:37who is not going to start, who they liked for
- 7:39the draft, who's got a lot of upside and just
- 7:43is buried on the depth chart or not giving a
- 7:45fair chance, but they like so and when you know it,
- 7:48Bennett in his second practice got some work with the ones.
- 7:52But we'll get to that later.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Yeah, And I guess one guy to sort of keep
- 7:56an eye on only because he's you know, he's working
- 7:58at second team. He's the rookie Kendall. He's been the
- 8:00second team center. He seems to be doing a good job.
- 8:03I thought he played well in the preseason. If he's
- 8:05playing well enough, they may consider him at left guard
- 8:08and to be that left guard slash backup center.
- 8:11Speaker 2: But we're we're a little far from there. I think
- 8:13it'll be interesting.
- 8:14Speaker 1: To see this week in practice if Brett Tooth continues
- 8:17to be a second team guard or if they do
- 8:19make some movements there as they maybe prepare if they
- 8:21have to for Dickerson being out. So that's all stuff
- 8:24we will find out in the coming days. But you
- 8:29mentioned the traffic getting out there was rough, right. They
- 8:30had that concert going on with that, So who was
- 8:33a Zach Brown concert or something?
- 8:35Speaker 2: I forget it was Chris Brown. Chris Brown, Okay.
- 8:38Speaker 3: The problem was the problem was at Sindince Back Park.
- 8:42The problem was that they didn't really have anyone directing
- 8:45traffic that was noticeable, and it was a parking lot
- 8:49in the street. It was awful. That's rough getting out.
- 8:52I mean, you know, I booked out as soon as
- 8:54practice over.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I got out of.
- 8:55Speaker 3: There, and it took me. Usually when I would go
- 8:59to a game, I would wait an hour hour and
- 9:01a half after the game, or if it was a blowout,
- 9:04I'd leave late in the fourth quarter so I can
- 9:07get home in enough time. But man, it was brutal
- 9:10for anyone and want you already know this, so but
- 9:13it is what it is. It was a very interesting practice.
- 9:16A lot went on. It was just over two hours
- 9:19and there was a lot there was boy, I don't know,
- 9:22Fangio was super aggressive. This is the most aggressive I
- 9:25have to tell you, once we set this thing up,
- 9:27most aggressive i've seen him in a practice. I don't
- 9:29know if he thinks he doesn't have good enough pass
- 9:30rush or what. I don't know whether he wanted to
- 9:33see certain things, but man, they were regressive.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Well.
- 9:36Speaker 1: He did mention in his press conference that it was
- 9:39it was a little bit about time for the pass rushers,
- 9:42the edge ones to start really showing up.
- 9:46Speaker 2: He seemed to absolve if you read the quotes, he
- 9:49seemed to absolve the starters Hunt and Nolan Smith. He
- 9:54seemed to be funneling his quotes more.
- 9:57Speaker 1: On the edge guys, because I think even mentioned and
- 10:00he said Usha, who's had a pretty good camp. He
- 10:04almost seems like he said he's flashing, and he said
- 10:06something about needing to be more consistent.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I think the dropping back. I remember last week he had.
- 10:12Speaker 1: An issue dropping into coverage and then Jalen Hurts easily
- 10:15hit DeVante Smith down the side for a long game,
- 10:18just taking advantage of that mismatch. So that's probably where
- 10:22what he's referring to the back. He said, they have
- 10:24to understand our system. So obviously we know Vic runs
- 10:28a different kind of system at him, and it doesn't.
- 10:30You don't just come in and learn it overnight, you know.
- 10:33And that's why I think we'll talk about Bennett. It's
- 10:35not just so easy to get him involved because with
- 10:37all the match carry deliver concepts, you really have to
- 10:40know the playbook here.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the thing is not everyone system is the same.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Real quick.
- 10:47Speaker 3: On the injuries logic, Cooks was watching practice with the
- 10:49shoulder injury. Yeah, we met you, Kenyon Green with the shoulder.
- 10:52Byron Young continues to miss a lot of practice with
- 10:54the groin entry. AJ Brown he came out, which was
- 10:57good with the hamster injury. He did just individuals and
- 11:00then I was it for him. And then they did
- 11:03so much teamwork that him and Bond Bond did some
- 11:07individual positions drills only with as AJ Brown did Bond
- 11:11with the back. But it was just good that they
- 11:12were on the field. That's a good thing.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There you go, all right, So let's get to some
- 11:16of the practice observations. And it is a good thing
- 11:19that Brown and Bonn are back. And I wasn't really
- 11:21worried about them anyway. I felt like, you know, those
- 11:23are the guys that they're not going to get pushed
- 11:25real hard in camp, but it was always good to
- 11:27see him start to do a few things.
- 11:30Speaker 2: What stood out offensively from the practice, All.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Right, here's my notes. So the defense more often than
- 11:38not dominated. It was you they keep on the scoreboard.
- 11:41It was twelve to ten defense. It's all situational. The
- 11:44whole practice situational. They don't go full field. Generally they
- 11:48go half right. They do it kind of like in quarters.
- 11:52But they started like the twenty five, and they work
- 11:54the way down and they keep switching off first team,
- 11:56second team, and so forth. Thirteam a little bit the
- 12:00highlight on offense. So they did have a great corner round,
- 12:02a great timing round from Hurts to Smith over Degene.
- 12:05I believe it was right corner. It's just a great
- 12:08he threw it. It wasn't what you called anticipation. Was
- 12:10definitely timing route because Smith was in the middle of
- 12:13this route and he he had to go get it.
- 12:15Was a great throw, great, great beautiful touch on it.
- 12:18But to be honest with you, the defense made it
- 12:21really hard that Quignon Mitchell is just glue. He's just
- 12:25he's having the It's the summer of Quignon he's been phenomenal,
- 12:29he really has. And then it was interesting and I
- 12:31was looking it's because these damn numbers. The players are allowed
- 12:33to wear whatever number pretty much they want. So he's
- 12:36wearing forty nine, I think, Bennett. And I'm like, because
- 12:40I was looking for myth, you know, I keep forgetting,
- 12:42I'm oh, he'll be in the twenties. No, he's forty nine.
- 12:44Like why is he wearing a long staff for summer?
- 12:48By the way, the backup long staf for thirty seven?
- 12:50On offense, the kid he's an undirected freege and he's
- 12:53two hundred and fifty pounds. He's a he's six two plus.
- 12:55He's a big dude. Yeah, Christo, Yeah, Johnstone. Yeah. But
- 12:59getting back to the defense, they just dominated. Now, there
- 13:03were some good interesting things. So Darius Cooper, what they
- 13:05do with him at receivers, they reduce him. He's not
- 13:08a true outside receiver. They move him in. He's outside,
- 13:11but they like the rams do they move the receivers
- 13:13in so he can get open.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yep.
- 13:15Speaker 3: And that he returned some kicks. Yeah, I was like, wow,
- 13:17what forty one's returning kicks? He was at they had
- 13:20a special teams drill where he went one on one
- 13:22downfield on coverage.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Man.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Taylor Morrin's getting lot of second team slot, which is interesting.
- 13:30Some putt return he gets open in a short area. Man,
- 13:33he does, he's, he's he's got decent size, like he's
- 13:37he looks bigger than maybe he's listed size, which is
- 13:39a scouting term.
- 13:40Speaker 2: It looks good.
- 13:41Speaker 3: He does look.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Good second team slot. Now that meant yeah, like you mentioned,
- 13:46I like it. I always say after the first preseason
- 13:49game is when you start to see a little bit
- 13:52of movement right, little depth chart, movement up down. And
- 13:55obviously Cooper who had even last week I wrote it
- 13:59in my notebook he took at least one, maybe two
- 14:02first team reps. Now he's working more with the first
- 14:06team and return doing some special teams.
- 14:08Speaker 2: So you know that they're starting to the.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Wheels are going in the head here of the coaching
- 14:12staff that maybe this guy can play and push for
- 14:15the fifty three.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah, no doubt.
- 14:18Speaker 2: So Yeah.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Nice Smith also gets a lot of them too. Terres
- 14:21Marshall is very active in this and he's back from
- 14:24his injury. He needs to Yeah, with his kne injury,
- 14:26he's back big time. He got targeted a lot, not
- 14:31a short intermediate area sizelon routes. I just look at
- 14:34my notes here. Dotson had a great sideline catch from Hurts.
- 14:39He you know, Dotson talked about it in his press conference.
- 14:41Him and Hurts. You know, they trained together, so they
- 14:43work together. So they're they're they're in the students, so
- 14:46they're they're getting their timing down. The first team offense,
- 14:48by the way, offensive line gave us some.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Pressure and that's or Dickerson left right, yes, oh yeah,
- 14:54oh yeah, So that's why the offense was just not
- 14:58didn't dominate.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Running back wise, Shipley looked explosively. It's some nice runs.
- 15:04You see the difference between Dylan and Shipley. It's just
- 15:06it's it's just the speed, explosiveness. And then Dylan looked fine.
- 15:11I mean he's you know, he's an inside power runner.
- 15:13And he also had in a couple of nice checkdowns
- 15:16from Hurts or whoever the or m McKee got a
- 15:18lot of run As a second team quarterback. Barkley had
- 15:21a couple of misses in pass proh What happened was
- 15:24it's not that he did it. He identified like the
- 15:26one that Trotter got him on Tryer took up one
- 15:30step to the left, beat him to the right. He
- 15:32just he whiffed. Yeah, that's what happened.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So that in a team that was in team yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Oh yeah, eleven eleven. So Harrison Bryant Kalcutar is clearly
- 15:43the two. But Harrison Bryant is the guy now behind Calcatarrata.
- 15:47If they keep three tight ends, that that's the way
- 15:48I would look at it right.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Now, that's true. I mean, he he so.
- 15:52Speaker 3: At least he did there.
- 15:53Speaker 2: He got a lot of well in the game. He
- 15:55ran with the two.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Harrison Bryant ran with the two's I think more so
- 15:59than Kyleen Grantson. But Kyln caught more passes. And when
- 16:04Harrison was in they ran a lot of split zone.
- 16:06That's when you have two tight ends and they line
- 16:09up on each side in a little bit offset and
- 16:11then one COEs across and provides the lead block for
- 16:14the running back. So I noticed Harrison Bryant in that
- 16:17role and that split its own role quite a bit,
- 16:20and that's a big staple of their run offense. So
- 16:22that told me that even though he hasn't it seems
- 16:26like he's had an invisible camp maybe the coaches are
- 16:28happy with how he's been run blocking and they're not
- 16:31worried as much about whether he's going to stretch the
- 16:33field because they got enough guys for that.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Yeah, Brian blocks Baron CaCu Terra Cauck. Terror is just
- 16:38a better athlete. I mean, he's been in the offense
- 16:40much longer. Also, when they played thirteen personnel, he was
- 16:44I saw him in there. Just look at my notes.
- 16:46He was in there. They might run some thirteen which
- 16:49is three tight ends.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Well oh yeah, yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 1: However, the one thing that contradicts what I thought about
- 16:55seeing on the play is that I believe on the
- 16:58opening kickoff coverage that Grantson was part of the first
- 17:03team there, but not Bryant. I'll have to go back
- 17:05and check the numbers I wrote down, but I'm for
- 17:07sure grants And that's what that's usually very telltale. If
- 17:09you're on first team kick off returner coverage, then usually
- 17:14you're you're on an important player on the fifty three.
- 17:17So we'll have to just keep monitoring that with the
- 17:19Browns game and everything more offense, quick, real quick, I
- 17:24want to ask you because you said you said Vic
- 17:26was bringing it.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Right a couple of what says, Okay.
- 17:29Speaker 3: So it seemed to be more than a coupleable god, yeah.
- 17:31Speaker 2: If you said the offensive line give up some pressure.
- 17:34Speaker 1: But was it also like when I think of Vic
- 17:37bringing it five six, seven guys, that sometimes is on
- 17:40more the running back or the quarterback to release quickly
- 17:43or the tight end that kept in to block. Did
- 17:45you notice where the pressure was coming from or was
- 17:48it consistently all over? This seemed to be all over.
- 17:50Seemed to be all over and Hurts checked it down,
- 17:53which was good. So McKee did a little bit. So
- 17:56we'll say, I mean it was only one practice, and
- 18:00I don't read a lot into it.
- 18:01Speaker 3: On the offensive. They have an elite offensive line with Dickerson,
- 18:04so we'll see what happens.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so you noted that I feel like DTR has has.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Had some pretty good practices recently.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Well he's yeah, he's got a he's got better arm
- 18:14when you knew that going in any way, Yeah, DTR
- 18:17was was seems to be getting more of the thirteen
- 18:20reps in the cord h where you thought it was
- 18:23a lot because what they would have loved to have
- 18:25done and it still could happen. But it's going to
- 18:27need to be sped up and it's going to feel better.
- 18:29Is one of these guys would develop enough where they go, wow,
- 18:32this guy, we we can't waive this guy. We gotta
- 18:34we gonna want him to get claimed off waivers where
- 18:36we want to keep him because he's looking good. They
- 18:38maybe trade McKee in March, but right now, that's it's
- 18:43not happening. I they they're they got to develop these guys. Look,
- 18:47it's there's enough. There's three weeks left. Then you got
- 18:50the fall and you never know what happens, but it's
- 18:54got to be better.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Well, if they want dtr they may have to consider
- 18:56keeping four quarterbacks then, because like you said, you don't
- 18:59want to risk lou using McCord to waivers because it's
- 19:02a quarterback.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I don't know that that's that's a rough one. We'll see.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I wouldn't read. I wouldn't make any decisions yet. I'm
- 19:10just telling you where it's at.
- 19:11Speaker 2: It's got to be better one hundred. All right, we'll
- 19:14get to the defensive side in a second.
- 19:16Speaker 1: First, we're gonna hear a word from our great friends
- 19:18at Sky Motor Cars.

- 20:18you can't, that's why there's skymotor.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Cars dot Com.
- 20:22Speaker 1: That's right, all right, defense, So obviously I feel like
- 20:26this happened last year too.
- 20:27Speaker 2: By the way, maybe I know Vic was. I thought
- 20:30even a couple of years ago when Vick was not
- 20:32coordinator or it was like yeah, and.
- 20:33Speaker 1: There's something about these night practices where they like to
- 20:35put on a show because I felt like last year
- 20:38they were pretty aggressive defensively in the night practice or
- 20:42the open practice, whatever you want to call it.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they definitely brought the pressure. So Ojoe
- 20:48Mo just makes a tough one that he's really good. Wow,
- 20:50that he's his first step quickness. He seems to win
- 20:53almost his It's called QR, which means quality rush. That's
- 20:57a coaching term. It's quality rush. Right, I want to
- 20:59fake keep it. If they do, it's got to be
- 21:01like elite. He's just game. Hall shows up now. Gabe
- 21:05Hall was sall holding his arm looking my notes. He
- 21:08was holding his arm or shoulder after one play. We'll
- 21:11see if he's on the entryport going forward. Uh, Byron
- 21:14Young again did not practice. They're very light on death
- 21:16right now. With if Byron Young not working, they got
- 21:19the got the kid Sykes, who's with Seattle. You know
- 21:23he's he was with Seattle the last two years. Uh,
- 21:27well he's actually he was cut two years ago and
- 21:29hadn't hit a bunch of tryouts, but it had not
- 21:32been signed anyone by anyone, so he started training camp.
- 21:35So they're a little bit light there. That's something to
- 21:37watch going.
- 21:38Speaker 1: For Yeah, Booker, because Booker got traded right and then
- 21:41of course by was still hurt.
- 21:43Speaker 2: That's why in the game in the in the preseason
- 21:47game the.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Five man front, the nose tackle was Joe uh but
- 21:53Joe Evans Evans.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Was your first string nose tackle where Jordan Davis used
- 21:58to play, but Jordan wasn't playing because he's the starter.
- 22:00Speaker 2: So yeah, Joe Evans and then Sykes got in there
- 22:03pretty early.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Either, Jacob Sykes too, So that just shows you where
- 22:06they're at from a depth level, because I don't think
- 22:08these guys are pushing to make the fifty three.
- 22:11Speaker 3: I know Evans is wide, he's not tall, but he
- 22:13is He's got a lot of way to him.
- 22:14Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Other notes is that it's it's very clear that ushe
- 22:22is ahead of Ojilari. That's been the first three days
- 22:25of Campbochlari was clearly ahead of him just based on
- 22:27the rotation, but ever since then then, Obo o'concro is
- 22:32is after those two guys and Campbell. Campbell gets a
- 22:37chance to rush. I would not call him attrusher because
- 22:39he's lining up mostly as an inside backer, but you
- 22:43see his explosiveness. Man, he is. He had a lot
- 22:47of flash plays in this practice. He definitely flashed. He's
- 22:49getting better.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Yeah. So Patrick Johnson's had a nice camp though.
- 22:54Speaker 1: And it's interesting because Patrick Johnson has come in and
- 22:56ran with the first team reps.
- 22:57Speaker 2: And this is a guy who had a really good.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Camp last year. Uh and and and made the fifty three.
- 23:04Before you know, they had some injuries, they had to
- 23:06play some roster tango, and then he wound up getting
- 23:08going with the Giants, right, if I'm not mistaken, Yeah, he.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Was climbing off waivers. Yeah. So basically when when Nolan
- 23:15Smith was out of practice or limited, that's when Patrick
- 23:19Johnson was getting work with the ones. Like all of
- 23:20a sudden, he like leap frog, Yeah, Concroe and and
- 23:24ouch for a couple of practices. So, but his deals
- 23:28with special teams. He really plays on defense. So we'll
- 23:30see what I know.
- 23:30Speaker 1: But that's the that's the where it comes down to
- 23:33how many of you are keeping in what role? Because
- 23:35your top four are pretty cemented with Jay Legs Hunt
- 23:37and Nolan Smith and Josh and Azizo Jeli.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So if you're looking at number five, are you.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Keeping the unconcuo kid because he's a good speed rusher
- 23:45or are you keeping Patrick Johnson?
- 23:47Speaker 2: Are you keeping both? And going with six?
- 23:49Speaker 3: Johnson was at the edge and he's been in this defense.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah, right, And then I didn't even mention the kid
- 23:54that they drafted who has who's been invisible? But they
- 23:56drafted the kid Powell, So, uh, it's gonna be an
- 24:00interesting numbers game at that position.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I agree totally.
- 24:03Speaker 2: All right, what do you know? It's from the inside
- 24:06linebacker crew.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and it just the Campbell made it flash plays.
- 24:11He's getting better. What he is is he's very physical.
- 24:16It's not just in this practices at at Novercare. It
- 24:21was like last night it was You're like, wow, he's
- 24:24really bringing it and you never know what's in his head.
- 24:26Was because because the media didn't get any access to
- 24:29him after practice, But did he bring it more because
- 24:32of the crowd who knows Beraro was on man defense?
- 24:37It was pretty funny like he maybe maybe they were
- 24:40telling him to, hey, make it like a a game
- 24:43and get the crowd up, which makes sense, why not
- 24:45do that? So sure, w yeah it was good. No,
- 24:49they they got loud. They got loud when they need to.
- 24:51So again, Bond didn't work in team, so it was
- 24:53it was Trotter Campbell than Bondon and Dallas gantsk got
- 24:57good length to him number fifty seven from Toledo.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I think those guys need to have a really
- 25:03good two days of practice against the Is it two
- 25:04practices against the rounds?
- 25:05Speaker 3: It is right, yes and Thursday yep.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yeah, they need to have good practices.
- 25:09Speaker 1: They didn't stand out in a positive way in the game,
- 25:12so the pads came out it was their time and
- 25:15against the Bengals, and I thought they missed a few
- 25:18tackles and overall didn't play as physical as I've seen
- 25:21them play in camp. So I think it'll be best
- 25:25for them to have a nice little bounce back to
- 25:27me the preseason game.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Sure, but ither than the practices. The joint practices are.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Are more intense, they're more physical, they're more structured as well,
- 25:34so you get to see them in all sorts of positions,
- 25:37whether it's red zone, third down, situational. That's where those guys,
- 25:40I'd like to see perform a little better than they
- 25:43did against the Bengals.
- 25:44Speaker 3: So the Wednesday practice will be the most important because
- 25:46you it's very light two days before the game. Wednesday
- 25:50one should be normal practice and that should be physical. No.
- 25:53By the way, I was at the twenty three and
- 25:55twenty four practices with the Browns. Those were very physical.
- 25:59Those were really really lively. I could I could certainly
- 26:02see why Stefanski, a Philadelphia native out of Saint Jo's Prep,
- 26:06and Siriani like working with each other here.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, those one on ones.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Uh, when they'll do between like say, my Lotta and
- 26:13Miles Garrett will be pretty I saw that.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Or Lane and Miles Garrett.
- 26:17Speaker 3: There were something else. Man, It's so funny you mentioned
- 26:19that because I remember, like, wow, because Garrett is so
- 26:21long and explosive.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, good stuff there. You mentioned earlier. Quinna
- 26:27Mitchell just he's now the model of consistency. It seems
- 26:31he just he goes out there and makes place. Yeah.
- 26:33Speaker 3: I'm not worried about the lack of interceptions. I'm really not.
- 26:37Just be a great cover corner, which he is, which
- 26:39he's running into format. That was his big knock. From
- 26:43a scouting standpoint is didn't have great hands, would fight
- 26:45the football, okay, and plus he didn't play man coverage.
- 26:48That was that was an issue. Well he did it
- 26:50at the Senior Bowl. But man, the guys, it's the
- 26:52phenomenal football player. Uh it was. Dorry Jackson was first
- 26:55up at right corner Van Ringo. Then they worked eight
- 27:00in practice last five minutes, it seemed, or so they
- 27:04bent it up with the ones.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Well that's fast.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I mean that just shows you they were he's in
- 27:09this competition's in.
- 27:10Speaker 3: That's in. You don't have to guess it's in. You
- 27:12just said, that's one hundred percent happening. Not that we
- 27:14knew it was going to happen. I just the first
- 27:16second practice, second practice, right, it was pretty interesting. Uh,
- 27:20we'll see. I talked to Greg co Sell about him.
- 27:22By the way, he really likes Bennett's tape.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Oh really hees.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Greg and I talked over the weekend. I was I
- 27:28wanted to know what he thought. He goes would not
- 27:31surprise me if he won the job. I'm like, what
- 27:32are your thoughts? He goes because he goes because the
- 27:34guy's a good football player. He knew about the timing
- 27:38was very good. He knew about the you know, the combine,
- 27:40but just by he by the tape, he goes, oh,
- 27:43this guy could play. He's fast, he's he's strong. He's
- 27:46another guy wh plays bigger than his listed size at
- 27:48five to ten and a half. He looks much bigger
- 27:51than that physically. Right, So we'll see mac mcgoiam's still
- 27:55the second team, Nickel mccomba right now, he's playing behind
- 28:00Sidney Brown because you remember he missed time to the
- 28:03shoulder issue, so he's working his way back. We we
- 28:07gotta fit, like you know, because when you see when
- 28:11you see Degene as a safety in base, if Sidney
- 28:16Brown comes in bed, you know, Sidney Brown will come
- 28:20in and Nickel as the safety and coops and Nickel. So,
- 28:25but they got to figure out who's going to play
- 28:28the majority of the safety position next to blanket ship.
- 28:31That's the thing they're going to have over the next
- 28:33three weeks. It's either Brown or r Kouba. If they're
- 28:35not happy with that, that's where another player comes in.
- 28:37We'll see what happens.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Yep.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I know that the reporters were trying to get something
- 28:42out of Vic just on on who's you know, sort
- 28:45of stepping up there and Vic Vic played it a
- 28:47little bit more closer to the vest than ordinary, you know,
- 28:51he didn't he said everybody's doing well. He did say
- 28:53he thought Sidney Brown has been learning the system a
- 28:55lot better this year than last year. Yeah, and I
- 28:58believe you mentioned he just has to start to see
- 29:00things a little quicker. He said, we just got to
- 29:04polish him up and see things a little better, a
- 29:06little quicker, which is a natural progression for young players.
- 29:10And then mentioned that last year was not a very
- 29:12good developmental time for him because he was hurt. So
- 29:15I thought that was actually positive from Vic to say
- 29:17that he's he's there, he's getting there.
- 29:20Speaker 2: He's just got to see things a little quicker.
- 29:22Speaker 3: The question will be off what you just said is
- 29:26does he get there, because if he doesn't, it's the
- 29:30one had mccoba never had that shoulder issue. Let's say
- 29:33he he's number twenty four, by the way, because I
- 29:36was watching him Sunday night, because you know, he could
- 29:39play nickel because if something crazy happened where Vic said,
- 29:43you know what, I've had it, let's put let's put
- 29:46koopt safety with blanket chip and we're going to go
- 29:48with that full time. The mccoob could be the nickel
- 29:51because he's done. He did it at Clemson, so it's
- 29:53not like they don't have an option. YEP, wouldn't be
- 29:56the worst decision. I'm not rolling anything out here internally
- 29:59because it's they got that Vic. Vic doesn't care. He's
- 30:04going to do what he thinks his best, right, you
- 30:06know he I'm not saying it's funny because I know
- 30:09he said this early on in his tenure here with Eagles,
- 30:13said it last year about he took it. He wasn't
- 30:16taking a shot at Howie. He was taking a shot.
- 30:18It might have been at John Elway or the front office.
- 30:21So you know, I've I've had disagreements with with uh
- 30:24front offices before because we know here at the front
- 30:28office saw Cooper Degenus a corner mm hmm. Just because
- 30:33you see him as that doesn't mean you have to
- 30:34do that. So this thing is gonna be fascinating to
- 30:37see what happens these next three weeks.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, I think this will be an important week
- 30:42also from Akuba, just because he was able to get
- 30:45to practice the last practice before the game against the Bengals.
- 30:48He practiced in They said he was limited, but he
- 30:50got that out there a decent amount. Obviously because of
- 30:53this just coming off the shoulder, they held him out
- 30:56of the preseason game.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Right, he didn't play in the preseason game.
- 30:58Speaker 3: I don't think against the Bengals, I don't think it.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but they were just making sure he's going to
- 31:02be ready for this week against the Brown So I
- 31:05would anticipate him being out there good to go, and
- 31:07and then the competition will will.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Pick back up between him and Sydney.
- 31:11Speaker 3: Yeah, and see that. They just want this to have.
- 31:14Oh no, I'm yeah. Mccoob didn't play. In fact, they
- 31:16finally we got to snap counts. I forgot to.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Uh.
- 31:20Speaker 3: They didn't have him on Friday. They got him up
- 31:24over the weekend. So it's funny Canard didn't play every snap.
- 31:29He only played fifty percent of snaps.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that was a that was the last year thing.
- 31:35He's more of you know, he's more season now he
- 31:38doesn't have to. Plus, the Eagles have a lot more
- 31:40offensive lineman to.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Uh to look at.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Johnny Wilson and Cooper led them in in snaps. Wilson
- 31:47seventy seven percent of snaps Cooper Darris Cooper sixty snaps,
- 31:51and Hinton led them on offensive line snaps eighty one percent,
- 31:55Drew Kennell seventy eight. Who's is coming along here, We'll
- 31:58see he's coming along. Matt Pryor had fifty eight percent
- 32:01of the snaps.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Who played the most tight end?
- 32:05Speaker 1: Who after between calcol No, I'm sorry, hold on, reset
- 32:10between Granson and Harrison Bryant who played the most snaps?
- 32:13Speaker 3: All right? So, and by the way, Granson intermediate hit
- 32:17a couple of intermediate level catches on Sunday night. Grantson
- 32:20led them. They it was it's funny thirty one percent,
- 32:24Jenkins thirty, Brian twenty three. But again it's situationally, what
- 32:28formation did they play in?
- 32:30Speaker 2: Right?
- 32:31Speaker 3: You know you I wasn't charting, Okay, how many eleven
- 32:33personnel and uh in thirteen over twelve? I don't you know,
- 32:39I didn't mark that. But it's really Harrison Bryant is
- 32:43just a better football player than E. J. Jenkins, But
- 32:45Jenkins has elite length and Jenkins has played a lot
- 32:48more on special teams than Brian did. Jenkins had twenty
- 32:50one snaps on specials. Brian had six, so I think
- 32:54we talked about this before. They have seven tight ends
- 32:56in the roster they could if they only keep You're
- 33:00almost starting to see two on the practice squad. It
- 33:02just becomes who are those guys going to be? Do
- 33:06they take the experience with Bryant or do they want
- 33:09the guy like Jenkins who subject to waivers if they
- 33:11cut him right, who they've invested a lot of time into.
- 33:14Speaker 2: It's just see, all right, good stuff.
- 33:18Speaker 1: We will keep you all posted on the Land and
- 33:21Dickerson injury, and we'll have all the latest updates as
- 33:24the week goes on, and of course we'll have the
- 33:26Cleveland Browns practice well attended and all that that is
