- 0:08[UNKNOWN]: Hey everybody, welcome back to Grimalkin' Lane, the podcast where queer friends and allies gather to review and discuss the original X-Men comics and continuity order.
- 0:16[UNKNOWN]: Except sometimes I just pick one of my favorite characters where we had to talk about her all day.
- 0:21[UNKNOWN]: Today we are here to celebrate the lovely Janet Van Dine.
- 0:25[UNKNOWN]: We have a group of all really cool girls and their glasses here.
- 0:30[UNKNOWN]: This is a nerdy comic book, girly glasses club and I just get to sit in with everybody.
- 0:38[UNKNOWN]: We have some Janet Bandine super fans if you weren't fans before I bet you are now I have the created a text thread a few months back and I've been saled sending a daily Janet Bandine We've been learning all about her and this is one of my all-time favorite characters for a number of reasons I'm thrilled to be celebrating her today
- 0:54[UNKNOWN]: Janet Van Dyne and Susan Storm and Jean Grey at a couple of others were all the original girls on the team where they were the only members for a long time.
- 1:05[UNKNOWN]: Janet is one of the original Marvel's 60s chicks.
- 1:07[UNKNOWN]: I love her very much, truly one of my all-time favorite characters.
- 1:11[UNKNOWN]: Picture it, 1957, Paris, by way of Hollywood.
- 1:15[UNKNOWN]: In funny face, Audrey Hepburn torrows through bookshops and photo studios plucked from intellectual obscurity and polished into fashion royalty.
- 1:24[UNKNOWN]: The Cold War hums in the background, suburbia is expanding, and American cinema is busy ironing its heroines into elegance.
- 1:33[UNKNOWN]: She reads philosophy, she resists the shallow world of Couture, and yet the camera adores her most when she glows.
- 1:41[UNKNOWN]: Intelligence is charming, and dependence is cute, but romance is the destination.
- 1:46[UNKNOWN]: An eggurl, even the most homely bookworm, is an elegant supermodel, just waiting to be found by the handsome and charming older male in the sub-movie it's Freda Stair.
- 1:55[UNKNOWN]: Now jump to 1959 a few years back and cranked the dial to B movie science fiction, the wasp woman, Susan Cabot plays a cosmetic executive who refuses to fade into an invisibility and injects herself with an experimental youth serum derived from wasps.
- 2:11[UNKNOWN]: This movie has pulpy, it is can't be, it is Roger Corman economy filmmaking at its scrappyest.
- 2:16[UNKNOWN]: But under the creature feature buzz is something sharper, here's a woman who owns a company
- 2:21[UNKNOWN]: fierce irrelevance and decides to rewrite biology itself.
- 2:26[UNKNOWN]: The 1950's loved youth distrusted ambition and feared women who controlled both.
- 2:30[UNKNOWN]: So of course she becomes a monster.
- 2:33[UNKNOWN]: The hive turns on its queen, but she gets to devour some men along the way.
- 2:38[UNKNOWN]: and then 1964 arrives, and skirts rise, and sex in the single girl sashays onto the screen, based loosely on Helen Gurley Brown's bestseller, it starts Natalie Wood, who by the way is my template for Janet Bendine if you were wondering, as the psychologist who studies male behavior while men study her.
- 2:56[UNKNOWN]: The birth control pill is newly approved.
- 2:58[UNKNOWN]: The culture is loosening its collar, and Holly would try to look modern without surrendering the joke.
- 3:04[UNKNOWN]: The single girl is no longer tragic or villainous.
- 3:06[UNKNOWN]: She's curious, career-minded.
- 3:08[UNKNOWN]: Maybe even in charge.
- 3:10[UNKNOWN]: And her love interest here is Tony Curtis.
- 3:12[UNKNOWN]: A man who is fucking his girlfriend, also a fucking his secretary, and not only lies to Helen through the film, but also repeatedly threaten suicide unless he gets what he wants.
- 3:21[UNKNOWN]: And in the end, she falls into hurt his arms, ready to give up her career for love.
- 3:25[UNKNOWN]: Now, if you want to capture the complexity of Janet Van Dyne, these three films are an excellent place to begin.
- 3:30[UNKNOWN]: We get the fashion, the monstrous wasp woman, and the Onjnou, who's ready to give it all up for her older male.
- 3:37[UNKNOWN]: So this is a fun tripod of any of you have seen any of these films.
- 3:41[UNKNOWN]: That helped me capture the wasp energy for today.
- 3:44[UNKNOWN]: Let me welcome my fabulous jury of front facing forward thinking independent ladies and each and every one of you could lead your own team of Avengers.
- 3:52[UNKNOWN]: Let me have you introduce yourselves with your pronouns and your initial thoughts on what it's been like to take this journey into the world of Janet Bandide.
- 4:01[UNKNOWN]: Let me first welcome Denalisa Aladino representing all Northern Paper Wasps.
- 4:06[UNKNOWN]: Hello.
- 4:07[UNKNOWN]: Thank you for having me.
- 4:09[UNKNOWN]: I'm so excited.
- 4:10[UNKNOWN]: So I am she her and I first met the was when I was reading She-Hulk with Rainbow Rouse edition and she was the rich motherly friend that she hoped needed a call on but she's going to finish her board meeting first and then she'll come over and help you out.
- 4:27[UNKNOWN]: So I was really excited to dig into more history with Janet.
- 4:30[UNKNOWN]: I've kind of
- 4:34[UNKNOWN]: It's a whole journey.
- 4:35[UNKNOWN]: Let me also welcome Alice and parent back to the show here on behalf of all kuku wasps, but not stepford kuku wasps.
- 4:42[UNKNOWN]: No, not that wrong, wrong group.
- 4:45[UNKNOWN]: I'm Alice and parent.
- 4:46[UNKNOWN]: My pronouns are she they.
- 4:48[UNKNOWN]: And I think the first
- 4:49[UNKNOWN]: thing with Janet Van Dine that I read was either the old Avengers ones that we've that you've read on Grey Malkenline that we read aloud and Avengers Academy when she gives everyone the cool outfits.
- 5:01[UNKNOWN]: So I was really excited to get into stuff that was focused on her.
- 5:05[UNKNOWN]: She's a big old history.
- 5:06[UNKNOWN]: Let me welcome Ruth and Price back to the show.
- 5:08[UNKNOWN]: These spokeswoman for all Sikana killer wasps.
- 5:11[UNKNOWN]: I mean, is there anything better than a cicada killer?
- 5:13[UNKNOWN]: It's really quite fantastic.
- 5:15[UNKNOWN]: On Ruth Anne Price, I'm Cheevae.
- 5:18[UNKNOWN]: My first introduction to Janet probably was as I was reading through every comic associated with the Scarlet Witch.
- 5:24[UNKNOWN]: And she got drunk full-sied and reminded Wanda about the kids that they had told her.
- 5:29[UNKNOWN]: didn't exist anymore.
- 5:30[UNKNOWN]: And then everything went to hell, which I have come to believe is not actually a Janet problem.
- 5:34[UNKNOWN]: That was a problem with Agatha not making everyone forget that the children existent, which seems like an oversight in retrospect.
- 5:41[UNKNOWN]: And then by second encounter with her was actually in Steve Orlando's Darkhold series.
- 5:45[UNKNOWN]: when she was one of the five that came to battle Chatham in his realm and then they did the little spin-off side stories with like the body horror and and that one not our Janet but Janet in an alternate universe who actually kills Hank when he hits her which is you know a fun alternative and we're just gonna say it out loud right now and then call the conversation done Janet is not responsible for the house of that matter what it is not.
- 6:10[UNKNOWN]: Let me welcome
- 6:14[UNKNOWN]: Hey, at least a while there she her so happy to be here.
- 6:19[UNKNOWN]: Um, Jan, sweetie by Jan.
- 6:22[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I never really read any comics with Jan in them.
- 6:26[UNKNOWN]: So like my initial introduction to her would probably be seeing her like in film and TV stuff, things like, you know, like just kind of getting this like washover of who she is.
- 6:35[UNKNOWN]: which is not at all who she seems to be in the comics, which is kind of funny to me.
- 6:40[UNKNOWN]: I, my initial thoughts on her generally are, I wish she loved herself as much as she loved everyone else.
- 6:45[UNKNOWN]: That's really like, that's my, I guess like, thesis statement, but you know, like, she's really about the seeking the validation from other people and I, I want more for her.
- 6:55[UNKNOWN]: That's my thought.
- 6:57[UNKNOWN]: And last but not least, I demand a martini demand a daring to be different if she stands for all bald faced hornets.
- 7:04[UNKNOWN]: I feel like that's a backhanded compliment.
- 7:05[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to google whatever that corner does later and figure that out.
- 7:09[UNKNOWN]: Truly it was meant that way.
- 7:13[UNKNOWN]: Chad loves nothing more than to rage bait me.
- 7:15[UNKNOWN]: We'll get more into that when we get to my section, um, but tied to my to my teeny, she her.
- 7:21[UNKNOWN]: Um, I don't know when I was first introduced to Janet.
- 7:24[UNKNOWN]: I'm assuming probably the same way I was introduced everyone through trading cards and just like reading, um, you know, whatever comics I could get a hold of.
- 7:32[UNKNOWN]: I've always like Janet because of her crazy fashion.
- 7:36[UNKNOWN]: I think we talked about it a little bit when Alicia and I did our little fashion photo review of Janet.
- 7:43[UNKNOWN]: I have a very conflicting feelings about her because I love her like very 1960s.
- 7:50[UNKNOWN]: Like, oh, let me get my face on before the boys see me because it is very camp.
- 7:54[UNKNOWN]: And I feel like she's a little bit of that.
- 7:56[UNKNOWN]: Mariah Carey, where she's like she's in on the joke like she knows this is a joke like she like she understands it But at the same time she is also desperately seeking the attention of men Specifically Hank and it's really gross like finding out that one of our favorite looks which is like the purple Naval revealing like holes all the way down the side again.
- 8:17[UNKNOWN]: I got it's like yes woman feel your body feel your oath It was all just to get Hank's attention and I'm like for a man
- 8:25[UNKNOWN]: even more at a suggestion of her psychiatrist to make sure to keep Hank's attention that's why she decides.
- 8:31[UNKNOWN]: It's a girl for you did all this for a man for why.
- 8:36[UNKNOWN]: She's a character who has a lot of growth over the decades, which is what I really love about her.
- 8:40[UNKNOWN]: There's a really strong through live to her character.
- 8:44[UNKNOWN]: I did want to touch on that, so like we focused a lot, especially in like the pictures that you sent us of her, again, I think it's
- 8:55[UNKNOWN]: a lot of like her like earlier stuff where she is very much a 19-year-old girl and love with like a 40-year-old scientist and and like there's a definite personality about that.
- 9:05[UNKNOWN]: Whereas obviously later when she like becomes the chairman of the Avengers and you know does all of you know does like to actual heroic stuff is like she you're right.
- 9:14[UNKNOWN]: She does have a really great arc and I love that for her.
- 9:17[UNKNOWN]: It's March 1963, and the silver age of comics is still in its infancy.
- 9:22[UNKNOWN]: We met Supergirl in 1959, Batwoman in 1956, Batgirl in 1961.
- 9:29[UNKNOWN]: Green Arrow gets Miss Arrowet in 1959, the same year that gave us Aqua Girl, Hawkman and Hawk Girl both debuted in 1985.
- 9:38[UNKNOWN]: 40, and 1942 Captain Marvel got Mary Marvel in 1947, Captain America got Betsy Ross Goldengirl and Namor gotten Amora.
- 9:47[UNKNOWN]: Now it's 1963, meet the flying wasp, and man's gorgeous new partner in peril.
- 9:55[UNKNOWN]: It's tells to astonish number 44, brand new scientist Hank Pim, Henry Pim, has invented an incredible shrinking ray, and this initial appearance of him,
- 10:04[UNKNOWN]: feels like an episode of The Twilight Zone, it's very like kind of done in one of those old polpy Marvel ways.
- 10:09[UNKNOWN]: He also makes a hat that lets him talk to ants.
- 10:12[UNKNOWN]: And now he's Ant-Man, created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and H.E.
- 10:16[UNKNOWN]: Huntley, who's a pen name for Ernie Hart, the classic illustrator of Super Rabbit for those who know the reference.
- 10:22[UNKNOWN]: On the cover we get a woman in the cutest red tunic matching red boots red gloves black legs and leggings and arm covers she's got pink fly wings a red w on her neckline a headset and a little hat that looks like a stinger but also has cute little antennas to finish off her insect.
- 10:40[UNKNOWN]: theme.
- 10:40[UNKNOWN]: I love this costume.
- 10:42[UNKNOWN]: It's camp.
- 10:42[UNKNOWN]: There's a black belt cinched at the waist, but also she's color coordinated herself with Hank Pym.
- 10:47[UNKNOWN]: Down to matching Antana matching color scheme inverted boot color and matching belts.
- 10:53[UNKNOWN]: On the splash page Ant-Man rides Aunt Steeds while holding ribbons as their reins and the wasp flies eerily at the reader, arms all a kimbo, this time with blue gloves on.
- 11:04[UNKNOWN]: When we opened the book, we learned a secret origin at Hank Pym.
- 11:07[UNKNOWN]: He had once married Maria Trovaya, and they returned to Hungary to visit Maria's father, but Maria ends up getting kidnapped and killed by the communist government there.
- 11:17[UNKNOWN]: Her body is found with a note that says, this is what happens to those who attempt to escape from behind the Iron Curtain, and Hank is in shock.
- 11:25[UNKNOWN]: Maria did.
- 11:26[UNKNOWN]: No!
- 11:27[UNKNOWN]: She was so young, so beautiful, so wonderful, and one of the last things Hank said to Maria.
- 11:33[UNKNOWN]: This honeymoon is the first vacation I've taken in years.
- 11:36[UNKNOWN]: Now I feel as though I never want to work again, just spend every moment of my life with you.
- 11:41[UNKNOWN]: And one of the last things Maria said to Henry, you are becoming a lazy husband.
- 11:46[UNKNOWN]: My father always used to say, go to the ants, thou doldered, but you are not an industrious ant, are you my love?
- 11:53[UNKNOWN]: Okay, now we have origin, why he became an ant.
- 11:56[UNKNOWN]: After becoming ant, man.
- 11:57[UNKNOWN]: Tim, please, sir.
- 11:58[UNKNOWN]: Sorry, I'm sorry, very sorry to interrupt you.
- 12:00[UNKNOWN]: So you're telling me that he's married to this woman and he wants to give up doing science things and we literally then get how many years of Hank literally telling Janet to get the fuck out of his lab.
- 12:12[UNKNOWN]: Like Hank Pim, I am Vice President of the IHAC, IHAC Hank Pim Club and this is just like, he's just nailing that coffin.
- 12:20[UNKNOWN]: And we have to be the type of, yeah.
- 12:23[UNKNOWN]: Oh, like to be the president.
- 12:24[UNKNOWN]: I'm just secretary.
- 12:25[UNKNOWN]: I will take secretary position.
- 12:31[UNKNOWN]: Ruth, I'll be the favorite large.
- 12:32[UNKNOWN]: I was gonna say Ruth Anna has agreed to cause play as Hank Pym every for every meeting.
- 12:37[UNKNOWN]: That is a dirty, dirty lie.
- 12:40[UNKNOWN]: After becoming the Edman, Pym researched wasps, as well, creating an injection of cells that could grow, quote, as legs or wings or antenna, but only in a life form of miniature size.
- 12:52[UNKNOWN]: And just then Dr. Vernon Van Dyne arrives at Pym's doorstep, and with him his daughter Janet, she's dressed in a red dress,
- 13:00[UNKNOWN]: He's very debutant in her white gloves with short hair.
- 13:04[UNKNOWN]: How do you do, Dr. Pim, she asks, he thinks she looks somewhat like Maria, but she's much younger, not much more than a child.
- 13:13[UNKNOWN]: And she thinks, hmm, he's quite handsome, but scientists are such boars.
- 13:18[UNKNOWN]: I prefer the adventurous type, not these doll intellectual bookworms.
- 13:22[UNKNOWN]: Now, see, Dr. Van Dyne has developed a gamma ray to communicate with the dimension of cosmos with a K, and later as he is experimenting, Janet is bored.
- 13:32[UNKNOWN]: Daddy, I'm going out somewhere where there is music and laughter and gayities, so she's gonna go to a drag show.
- 13:38[UNKNOWN]: But while she's gone, Vernon is murdered by a green blob, the creature from Cosmos, Janet finds her father's body and calls Henry Pen for help.
- 13:48[UNKNOWN]: And he thinks, those boards society play girls are all alike, but it's pretty gruesome for her to get her kicks by making up a horror story about her father.
- 13:57[UNKNOWN]: Janet soon meets Atman and says, I loved my father.
- 14:00[UNKNOWN]: He was the finest man on earth.
- 14:02[UNKNOWN]: I never showed him how much I loved him.
- 14:04[UNKNOWN]: I thought it wasn't sophisticated.
- 14:06[UNKNOWN]: Now I'll never have the chance, but there is one thing I can do, avenge him.
- 14:11[UNKNOWN]: Call it a woman's intuition if you wish.
- 14:13[UNKNOWN]: I shall dedicate my life to finding his murderer.
- 14:16[UNKNOWN]: I wish I could help track down all the criminals, the human wolves who prey on honest people.
- 14:21[UNKNOWN]: I suppose you think I'm just a foolish female.
- 14:24[UNKNOWN]: With her consent, Pim in Plants sells that can grow wings in Antana whenever she shrinks down with his special shrinking gas.
- 14:32[UNKNOWN]: She gets a costume, grows her wings for the first time, and they head off to fight the creature from Cosmos.
- 14:38[UNKNOWN]: And as they fly, Janet says, this is exhilarating.
- 14:41[UNKNOWN]: I think you're wonderful.
- 14:42[UNKNOWN]: I want you to know in case this creature kills us as it did my father.
- 14:46[UNKNOWN]: I, I'm falling in love with you during the coming fight, pim yells at Janet a lot.
- 14:51[UNKNOWN]: And when she asked her first question, he says quiet, girl, and tells her you must not display such a motion.
- 14:58[UNKNOWN]: When the mission is over, she realizes she's his partner and just knows he's going to learn to love her back.
- 15:04[UNKNOWN]: We're going to get to the Jenna and Hank relationship in the next part of this, so we'll have a lot to say about the two of them together, but if you watched any of the films I referenced earlier, that like older male, younger female template and even like songs on the radio about like, I love my daddy, but they're singing about their boyfriend was like very common for the time in my read of these two in the 60s comics, which is delightfully fun and sometimes racist.
- 15:31[UNKNOWN]: I read them a little bit like Fred and Ethel from the old like I love Lucy show, but we're going to get to Jenna and heck next.
- 15:36[UNKNOWN]: I'm mad.
- 15:38[UNKNOWN]: I'm just mad.
- 15:39[UNKNOWN]: I can't get over it.
- 15:40[UNKNOWN]: Why are you saying that?
- 15:41[UNKNOWN]: All of our faces during this.
- 15:43[UNKNOWN]: What?
- 15:43[UNKNOWN]: So I was reading everyone was like,
- 15:46[UNKNOWN]: I don't think she's a child, but looks like his dead wife.
- 15:50[UNKNOWN]: What is that?
- 15:51[UNKNOWN]: She also is like a step mom to like that child later, which I think is above and beyond what she should be doing first of all, but good for her.
- 15:58[UNKNOWN]: We're talking about Naughty here.
- 16:01[UNKNOWN]: We'll get to that a little later.
- 16:02[UNKNOWN]: But like, I just, I love, I love, okay.
- 16:05[UNKNOWN]: When you read what I wrote down, so I don't like get too angry again.
- 16:09[UNKNOWN]: I love Jan from the start.
- 16:10[UNKNOWN]: She's fashionista, she's not afraid of putting in their place in her dad's with her words.
- 16:15[UNKNOWN]: And how vengeful she is.
- 16:17[UNKNOWN]: Like I love that I feel like not a lot of like women are portrayed as like vengeful spirits, but I think that's awesome.
- 16:22[UNKNOWN]: Well, she is the one who came up with the Avengers.
- 16:25[UNKNOWN]: Yes, I think that Hank getting consent to turn her more bug-like is one of the most empowering things he has ever done for her.
- 16:35[UNKNOWN]: It's a lovely time zone of the only time you can send one time.
- 16:39[UNKNOWN]: Yes, and does this relationship start because she's afraid of dying and she's doing all these feelings to like the only guy that's around and like,
- 16:49[UNKNOWN]: They certainly are trauma bonded, right?
- 16:52[UNKNOWN]: Like he reminds her of her dad, she reminds him of his dead wife.
- 16:56[UNKNOWN]: Can I pause really quickly and be slightly self-indulgent for a moment?
- 16:59[UNKNOWN]: I've shared this a little bit on the show before, but never this story.
- 17:02[UNKNOWN]: When I left the Marvel Handbook, after writing on them for 10 or 11 years, I tried pitching some original series to Marvel using their characters to see if I could make it as a comic book writer.
- 17:11[UNKNOWN]: So this is a long time ago.
- 17:12[UNKNOWN]: The first series that I pitched in the one that I was most proud of, that didn't get any
- 17:17[UNKNOWN]: was when Ultron first shows up in the comics, we see him as Ultron one, the little vacuum cleaner guy, and then it comes back a little while later as Ultron five.
- 17:25[UNKNOWN]: And I wrote the Ultron origin story where it like talked about Ultron's two, three, and four.
- 17:29[UNKNOWN]: And it was like deeply steeped in like ant man in the wasp history.
- 17:34[UNKNOWN]: And I told like the real death of,
- 17:35[UNKNOWN]: Maria Trevaya, like there was a whole bunch of stuff I worked into the story, which I'm still really proud of all these years later, but I love this early history.
- 17:42[UNKNOWN]: I love these characters, and I love that original run of the comics that they are in.
- 17:46[UNKNOWN]: It's Marvel camp, but it's finest.
- 17:48[UNKNOWN]: I think the statement of trauma bonding is very, very true.
- 17:52[UNKNOWN]: And I think that what we will see, I won't really get into it, but we will see going forward is that the way in which they trauma bond with each other is very different.
- 18:01[UNKNOWN]: I feel like, you know, two demand is point of, okay, so Hank was like, I'm going to just go in this one direction and never do anything sciencey again and then my wife dies.
- 18:12[UNKNOWN]: He kind of ends up in this place where he's like, in order for my next wife to survive, I must do the exact opposite of that.
- 18:18[UNKNOWN]: just go so hard in the other direction.
- 18:20[UNKNOWN]: And so his bond with her, I think is more about like the preservation of her life and like their happiness without actually being connected to her.
- 18:28[UNKNOWN]: And then her bond is like, I lost my dad.
- 18:30[UNKNOWN]: And so what I need now is like immediate grad like validation from this person.
- 18:35[UNKNOWN]: And she just like,
- 18:36[UNKNOWN]: wants that from the very beginning you know you like have a guy who's like talking to her and telling her to like control her emotions and to be quiet like immediately their first mission then she's always gonna be like okay I want him to like me so what do I have to do to make him like me so they both put themselves in like a very dangerous situation for what would lead them to probably a very unhealthy relationship going forward.
- 19:00[UNKNOWN]: writing younger women with the older men is like across all media.
- 19:04[UNKNOWN]: Think of like old Superman and lowest lane comics, right?
- 19:07[UNKNOWN]: Where like every year, every year she was got a teacher or a lesson and like the things spanking Jean Grey on panel in the 1960s because she shouldn't be involved in a fight right?
- 19:15[UNKNOWN]: It's like that old like Stanley and Jack Kirby very much carried that energy into a lot of comics.
- 19:19[UNKNOWN]: But this is also steeped in tragedy.
- 19:21[UNKNOWN]: The murder of her father and then the trauma bond that exists and then she
- 19:28[UNKNOWN]: All of the red flags are going up and and and again I'm trying not to like shit too much on them because I know that like these are like I kind of characters and like you know their favorites and all of that but it's like girl no what are you what are you doing like this man obviously does not like you like he doesn't like you
- 19:55[UNKNOWN]: Okay, so let's jump to the big chat, which is the Janna and Hank relationship, which is what everybody's here for, right?
- 20:02[UNKNOWN]: So there's this template for relationships with the older and the younger the young vivacious female Because older women lose all their beauty and value just asked the wasp woman from the movie I referenced earlier and we have the certainly an experienced older man.
- 20:15[UNKNOWN]: I mentioned the Fred and I
- 20:16[UNKNOWN]: but it's also giving Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore or George Burns and Gracie Allen.
- 20:21[UNKNOWN]: It's intended to be written as comedy gold by male writers at the time, but in the 2020 lens, it's just mean.
- 20:28[UNKNOWN]: We hated how they treat Marvel girl in the old 60s books, but like, for Jenna Van Dyke and my goodness in this solo book, she gets a lot of shit thrown out her.
- 20:36[UNKNOWN]: Just like Ice Man was written to be like a carefree leave it to be for teenager, but now we're like, oh, actually he's gay.
- 20:41[UNKNOWN]: Well, their agenda and hanker meant to be written as the silly couple, but God is really easy to hankpim.
- 20:46[UNKNOWN]: If you've read any of these stories at any point after like 1975, songs that were on the radio wake up little Susie by the Everley Brothers.
- 20:55[UNKNOWN]: Don't you know little fool by the shirels and a hey big spender by Earth a kit.
- 21:00[UNKNOWN]: My heart belongs to Daddy by Marilyn Monroe by By Birdie by Anne Margaret.
- 21:04[UNKNOWN]: I am 16 going on 17 in the sound of music.
- 21:08[UNKNOWN]: This is a common theme.
- 21:09[UNKNOWN]: I need someone older and wiser, telly me what to do.
- 21:14[UNKNOWN]: Right, we're giving Janet Van Dyne here very much.
- 21:16[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to weigh over summarized the Hank and Jan relationship here, but the best wasps stories in her long and impressive career are those where she ends up breaking free from Hank and running her own life.
- 21:25[UNKNOWN]: There's some epic runs for her.
- 21:27[UNKNOWN]: The worst are when she finds herself back in his arms and cleaning up his messes.
- 21:31[UNKNOWN]: And writers have not back to interpret this marriage over and over in the comics.
- 21:35[UNKNOWN]: Jan's dad died, and she finds herself at the doorstep of this scientist, and he has perfected both talking to Anne's and size changing part-pin particles.
- 21:43[UNKNOWN]: They become a crime-viting duo.
- 21:44[UNKNOWN]: She's obsessed with hairdos and fighting crime.
- 21:47[UNKNOWN]: He's constantly charned the charmed by her one minute, and then berating her youthful antics the next.
- 21:52[UNKNOWN]: Hank soon has a little bit of a complex and instead of shrinking decides to grow.
- 21:57[UNKNOWN]: So now he's giant man and she changes her costume to look like him and they assume inform the Avengers and Hank has an identity crisis because he's fighting next to Norse Gods and Gamma beasts and weapons designing suits of armor and living legends.
- 22:11[UNKNOWN]: But you see Hank was married before to Maria Trovaya.
- 22:13[UNKNOWN]: She died tragically.
- 22:14[UNKNOWN]: Jen looks just like him.
- 22:16[UNKNOWN]: Decades later, we're going to learn that Maria had a daughter by pin named Nadia, who ends up getting trained as a child assassin, and with Janet and her most recent appearances, we almost see her in the loving mentor slash step mom role in some really beautiful unstoppable waspseries written by my friend Jeremy Whitley, who's been on the show multiple times.
- 22:34[UNKNOWN]: Janet's constantly flirting with her teammates in the 60s to get Hank's attention.
- 22:38[UNKNOWN]: He's constantly locking himself in his lab.
- 22:40[UNKNOWN]: He eventually creates the thing he's most famous for, where a murderous AI, which decades later, will be reinterpreted as a direct copy of the worst parts of his personality and insecurities.
- 22:51[UNKNOWN]: So Ultron, the mass murderer, gets his brain and grams from Hank Pim.
- 22:57[UNKNOWN]: Uh, genocide or war machine, you know, Hank renamed himself Goliath and then in another moment a major distress has a full nervous breakdown and his id asserts dominance as the yellow jacket, a brash and overtly masculine hero who wants nothing to do with Hank Pym.
- 23:13[UNKNOWN]: I can finally do everything he wouldn't do.
- 23:15[UNKNOWN]: Just me, Janet, there's a lot of that stuff in those comics in the late 60s.
- 23:20[UNKNOWN]: And again, later writers are going to establish more complex motivations behind all of this scene Avengers forever, Avengers Earth's smidiest heroes volume 2 for more, but Jan pushes to marry Yellowjacket during his mental breakdown.
- 23:33[UNKNOWN]: It's only after their wedding, which infamously had that snake in a cake, by the way, that Hank's personality reasserts itself, and they enter years of question mark wedded
- 23:44[UNKNOWN]: Before they're wedding, Janet was almost killed twice, a stray bullet during a fight with Count Nefaria and the Magia, and an explosion during that time that Tode posed as the stranger.
- 23:54[UNKNOWN]: We did that script read on my show.
- 23:56[UNKNOWN]: And both times, Hank went crazy and did everything he could to save her, except sit by her in the hospital.
- 24:01[UNKNOWN]: He instead went after people and like tried to beat them up.
- 24:04[UNKNOWN]: And like through his teammates into the wall and started fights directly in the emergency room while she's in intensive care.
- 24:11[UNKNOWN]: They also repeatedly handled the threat of David Cannon, the whirlwind, Jan's frequent stalker, and Kidnapper, and the first man who hit her on panel, by the way, in a 1960s book.
- 24:21[UNKNOWN]: Go see the trial of whirlwind from last year on my show.
- 24:25[UNKNOWN]: Fast forward to the early 1980s, and Hank's personalities shifts start to be read through the lens of bipolar disorder, major manic episodes followed by major depressive episodes.
- 24:34[UNKNOWN]: Jenna inherits her father's entire estate in her early 20s and is now a multi-millionaire, and Hank is in rage.
- 24:42[UNKNOWN]: He's pushing himself past the point of exhaustion, he's making big mistakes, and acting more and more like a cruel wife abuser.
- 24:49[UNKNOWN]: And in that moment that the character can never live down, the equivalent of Cyclops walking out on Battle and Prior for Jean Grey.
- 24:56[UNKNOWN]: But worse, Hank calls Janet Names, has been abusive for a little while and then he hits her in that infamous
- 25:04[UNKNOWN]: talk about this panel.
- 25:05[UNKNOWN]: She shows up in the next Avengers meeting with a black eye, and Hank and ends up not only getting court-martialed from the team after trying to murder them and save the day himself with a robot he designed, but he ends up soon in prison, and the wasp ends up being the one to take him down and save the day.
- 25:20[UNKNOWN]: Janet immediately files for divorce, and then relaunches her life as the leader of the Avengers, maybe the best they've ever had in my opinion.
- 25:27[UNKNOWN]: Roger Stern writes her in that role for years, and it's divine.
- 25:30[UNKNOWN]: Now during this time, she hook us up with Magneto, retroactively deadpools inserted into that mix as well, so those are her first two rebounds, and then Paladin, she briefly dates Ironman for a minute, an Ironman by the way, lies to her, she doesn't know, well, she's dating Tony Stark, but she doesn't know he's Ironman, which is like her husband, who's now in jails, like friend and teammate, it's really uncomfortable.
- 25:51[UNKNOWN]: Hank starts to date firebird and tiger.
- 25:53[UNKNOWN]: Hank ends up on the West Coast Avengers where they later become teammates again, and it gets worse not better, but they do stay together for years on this rebound, as Ultron comes back again and again and again.
- 26:04[UNKNOWN]: Most recently, while Jan has dated both Hat Hawkeye and Havik with whom she has a daughter, and Iron Man more seriously in the comics, Hank has now merged with Ultron, and Jan has become the mother figure to his daughter.
- 26:16[UNKNOWN]: Oh, and there was that time that Hank was replaced by a scroll and the scroll not only fathered a child with Tigra, but he gave Jan a serum that when she used it basically made her shrink into the microverse and everyone thought she was dead.
- 26:27[UNKNOWN]: And Hank, when he came back to life, mourned her so hard that he started calling himself the Wasp.
- 26:32[UNKNOWN]: for a while.
- 26:33[UNKNOWN]: Oh, and there's also that time in evil iron man made jango bank rub during the crossing and then Hank messed with her powers and turned her into a monster.
- 26:41[UNKNOWN]: Just like you bet you stood back in the 60s.
- 26:42[UNKNOWN]: He controlled her size changes and then he like turned her into like a wasp mutate against her will.
- 26:47[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot of history to reckon with with these two.
- 26:49[UNKNOWN]: We'll talk more about Janet's romantic life with others later.
- 26:52[UNKNOWN]: But let me hear your takes on the Janet Hank Pym relationship.
- 26:56[UNKNOWN]: I mean, it's just so much.
- 27:02[UNKNOWN]: over again.
- 27:03[UNKNOWN]: It's exhausting.
- 27:05[UNKNOWN]: I want to just take a moment to say, hey, big spender is a total buff.
- 27:09[UNKNOWN]: And if you haven't seen the Fasi choreography to it, please go watch that on YouTube right now.
- 27:13[UNKNOWN]: It's a really great number.
- 27:14[UNKNOWN]: I like mess.
- 27:16[UNKNOWN]: I especially like mess and like romantic pairings.
- 27:19[UNKNOWN]: And I was like, this might be too messy.
- 27:20[UNKNOWN]: This might have, this might be like, this is a little too real, this is a little too, I don't want to touch this.
- 27:26[UNKNOWN]: There are very few of the stories when they're together, uh, where Hank is really very redeemable, honestly.
- 27:33[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot of like stories where she's forgiving him, or like feeling sorry for him, or like realizing he's done his best, but there's not a lot of redemption stories.
- 27:40[UNKNOWN]: He just breaks down again and again and again.
- 27:42[UNKNOWN]: It's so messy.
- 27:43[UNKNOWN]: And so I think, and I think this is where my big problem is with the character is that, you know, obviously we're looking at this from, you know, our, our more modern lens and whatever, but like, you know, you keep bringing up like, oh, this is very, you know, like standard for the time, this is very like Fred and I'm like, yeah, and I'm pretty sure behind closed doors, Fred hit Athel a couple of times, like it's, it's not.
- 28:10[UNKNOWN]: Again, like the Hollywooders were every episode.
- 28:12[UNKNOWN]: He's like a feud cross me one more time out.
- 28:15[UNKNOWN]: It's still the moon.
- 28:16[UNKNOWN]: He's friend right and yeah and like, you know, there's like the, you know, the joke that like all comedy that boomers and gen X talk about is oh, I hate my wife.
- 28:26[UNKNOWN]: I hate my husband and it's like, but he.
- 28:28[UNKNOWN]: And again, I'm going to say it again.
- 28:29[UNKNOWN]: He doesn't like her.
- 28:31[UNKNOWN]: Like like if he liked her, he wouldn't treat her the way that he treats her.
- 28:35[UNKNOWN]: He finds her useful.
- 28:37[UNKNOWN]: He keeps her around.
- 28:39[UNKNOWN]: I'm sure he has some kind of like romantic fun for her, but he doesn't like her.
- 28:44[UNKNOWN]: He continually makes fun of anything and everything that she likes.
- 28:48[UNKNOWN]: He never, and we'll talk about this when I, you know, bring up the actual canonical what happened in the book.
- 28:53[UNKNOWN]: He never believes her.
- 28:54[UNKNOWN]: He's always yelling at her.
- 28:56[UNKNOWN]: He's always telling her to go away.
- 28:58[UNKNOWN]: And it's so, it's so unhealthy.
- 29:01[UNKNOWN]: And, you know, like, we'll always have like her story gets so much better when she leaves him.
- 29:08[UNKNOWN]: Who is the X-Men's equivalent of Henry Pim?
- 29:11[UNKNOWN]: When I tell you, you're gonna agree with me.
- 29:13[UNKNOWN]: X men equivalent my least favorite Hugh mute and Charles Xavier.
- 29:17[UNKNOWN]: Um, oh, I was going to go.
- 29:18[UNKNOWN]: I was going to go hang McCoy.
- 29:20[UNKNOWN]: Oh, interesting, because I was thinking of like Charles like, you know, you're always seeking Charles's validation, but you're never quite there, you know, like he always thinks you have something else you can work on or that he knows better for you.
- 29:32[UNKNOWN]: And I kind of think that that sort of, but I want to hear why you think, hang McCoy.
- 29:36[UNKNOWN]: I mean, he's experimenting on himself, genocide or robots, like breakdowns, treating women terribly.
- 29:42[UNKNOWN]: His name comes up and you want to like him, but it just kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
- 29:46[UNKNOWN]: Like, it feels like that's the equivalent for me.
- 29:49[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, that makes it all sound.
- 29:50[UNKNOWN]: I think the thing for me with their relationship, too, is just that, like, it's good to know that the further they go in continuity that she can start to see what's going on with him.
- 30:00[UNKNOWN]: And they talk a little bit about it in the 60s.
- 30:03[UNKNOWN]: comics, like the late 60s comics about like he has some mental health things going on, right?
- 30:07[UNKNOWN]: The whole yellow jacket storyline is very centered in that, like in those early comics, they call it, um, schizophrenia versus bipolar.
- 30:15[UNKNOWN]: It's just interesting to kind of think about, like, what is it that she's seeing in him that she needs?
- 30:20[UNKNOWN]: so much to have his validation because she's with like other members of the Avengers and other people.
- 30:27[UNKNOWN]: She's doing super heroics like there are moments where like he is thought to be dead or not around and she is capable fully capable and yet she's always like wanting his approval.
- 30:38[UNKNOWN]: And I think that that's it's just so toxic and it's just so, you know, again, again, to demand this point like infuriating looking at it now in our current with our current lens of seeing it.
- 30:49[UNKNOWN]: And then thinking like this is what people were reading.
- 30:52[UNKNOWN]: And so all of the media in these time periods is just reinforcing this idea and setting it as like a normal, a normal thing to just go about like
- 31:02[UNKNOWN]: even if someone makes you feel badly about yourself, like, they are, they are a man, they are your husband.
- 31:07[UNKNOWN]: So you must seek their approval constantly, which is bad news bears.
- 31:11[UNKNOWN]: Janet gets mortally wounded a couple times.
- 31:14[UNKNOWN]: And those early Avengers comics, she gets stalked by the whirlwind.
- 31:17[UNKNOWN]: There's a
- 31:18[UNKNOWN]: of old panels of her like hanks in the lab.
- 31:20[UNKNOWN]: And I'm all alone.
- 31:21[UNKNOWN]: I'm so bored.
- 31:22[UNKNOWN]: And she's trying to be sexy.
- 31:23[UNKNOWN]: It got as attention and they go on adventure.
- 31:25[UNKNOWN]: Like adventures together.
- 31:26[UNKNOWN]: But like there's just a lot of it.
- 31:28[UNKNOWN]: It takes a while for her to find her groove.
- 31:29[UNKNOWN]: Now I grew up in a home with a lot of domestic violence.
- 31:32[UNKNOWN]: And it went on for a long time.
- 31:33[UNKNOWN]: And then there was one day it was too far.
- 31:35[UNKNOWN]: And my like we kicked him out.
- 31:37[UNKNOWN]: You know, like there was like got that breaking point.
- 31:39[UNKNOWN]: And for Janet that day where hanks strikes her in the lab.
- 31:42[UNKNOWN]: Like she's done.
- 31:43[UNKNOWN]: And then she becomes like,
- 31:45[UNKNOWN]: a millionaire, Eris, and like a the leader of the Avengers, and like she doesn't lose her her pizzazz at all.
- 31:52[UNKNOWN]: She brings more women into the team, and like really successfully leads the team through a lot of really crazy things.
- 31:58[UNKNOWN]: She brings a black woman onto the team for the first time.
- 32:00[UNKNOWN]: Like, there's a lot of great shit that happens during her run under Roger Stern.
- 32:04[UNKNOWN]: He clearly loves this character very much.
- 32:07[UNKNOWN]: I think.
- 32:08[UNKNOWN]: First of all, this man is horrendous.
- 32:10[UNKNOWN]: And like, I think that when he does hit her, I wasn't surprised because everything is building up to that moment.
- 32:16[UNKNOWN]: And like even before he was classified as having a mental disorder, he still treated her terribly.
- 32:22[UNKNOWN]: He's constantly amasculated by her, but how much money she has and about how she's constantly saving the day.
- 32:28[UNKNOWN]: And he's not.
- 32:29[UNKNOWN]: He's only really ever showing her affection when she is dying.
- 32:34[UNKNOWN]: And it's like,
- 32:34[UNKNOWN]: That's just a huge red flag and so it's just I like going back to what we're talking about earlier about them being trauma bonded and him trying to constantly save her like Alicia was saying because of like his ex but his previous wife dying I just think there's no other way that she could see pass all of this bullshit of him just making her fear feel terrible for who she is she's good at everything she does and he makes him so mad and it takes him heading her to be like oh tigers right.
- 33:03[UNKNOWN]: I'm worth 10 of him.
- 33:04[UNKNOWN]: Like he does, I do not need this.
- 33:06[UNKNOWN]: And I'm like, it's, I'm glad I didn't flip around it.
- 33:09[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, for a lot of years there, it's almost as though if she's succeeding at something, he's interpreting that as I'm bad at everything.
- 33:15[UNKNOWN]: Right, that feels sorry for you thing.
- 33:17[UNKNOWN]: And I know a lot of people who married too young and didn't end well.
- 33:20[UNKNOWN]: Okay, Jenna, Jenna Bendine stands about five foot four.
- 33:23[UNKNOWN]: So she's one inch taller than Wolverine.
- 33:26[UNKNOWN]: Just like that.
- 33:28[UNKNOWN]: A regular user of pin particles, she usually shrinks to insect size when active as a superhero, sprouting wasps wings from her back, and sometimes antenna from her forehead, allowing her to communicate with insects.
- 33:40[UNKNOWN]: Jen has often grown to giant size as well, making her very the 40 foot woman.
- 33:44[UNKNOWN]: She doesn't grow wings that she's just a big, big girl.
- 33:47[UNKNOWN]: Gen most often uses her bioelectric sting in combat at variable levels of intensity.
- 33:52[UNKNOWN]: She has sometimes employed air guns, needles, or little guns in combat, an expert flyer Jan is also briefly wrote around on a beat named Boopsie during a couple of adventures in the 60s.
- 34:03[UNKNOWN]: She can speak at least five languages and is a very effective combat specialist and teen leader.
- 34:09[UNKNOWN]: The Wasps story when read consecutively is a pretty powerful one.
- 34:12[UNKNOWN]: She's a favorite of a lot of writers you can tell.
- 34:14[UNKNOWN]: And they use her very often.
- 34:16[UNKNOWN]: She's been part of many versions of the Avengers.
- 34:19[UNKNOWN]: The main team, the West Coast team, the uncanny team, as well as one of the time displaced heroes and Avengers forever, where she rides rises up to the station of leader in a truly cosmic adventure.
- 34:30[UNKNOWN]: I really love that series.
- 34:31[UNKNOWN]: Some writers put her in flirty, flighty, fluzzy lights, and others, even when those portrayals, they're a reductive, obviously, but they're usually a lot of fun.
- 34:40[UNKNOWN]: She's a very competent businesswoman who isn't afraid to go after what she wants.
- 34:44[UNKNOWN]: She stands side by side with people like Thor and feels like an equal even when she's too inches tall.
- 34:50[UNKNOWN]: She wastes very little time on self doubt.
- 34:53[UNKNOWN]: If she has any fatal flaws, it's that she likes to date her teammates.
- 34:56[UNKNOWN]: And she gets bored very easily and while her other major flaws
- 35:01[UNKNOWN]: Janet Vendine stands as a quite unique perhaps alongside only alongside the Scarlet which herself when it comes to crazy giant fucked up family trees.
- 35:10[UNKNOWN]: And I'm just going to do this in one breath because explaining it would take too long.
- 35:13[UNKNOWN]: She was married to Hank Pym, who's the father of Nadia, and also the father of Ultron, who is also himself.
- 35:19[UNKNOWN]: Ultron is the father of the vision, who's based on Wonderman, the brother of the Grim Reaper, and the father of Alkama, who's based on mockingbird who was married to Hawkeye, who jandated, and Jakosta, who's based on Janet herself.
- 35:31[UNKNOWN]: Vision married the Scarlet Witch, the twin of Quicksilver, the daughter of Magneto, who jandated mother to speed and wicken, who's married to Hulkling, who's the son of a null and Captain Marvel, who's the father of genus, and it just gets more complicated from there, the father you branched out.
- 35:46[UNKNOWN]: but also division later married Virginia, who's based on Wanda, and is the father of Vin and Viv, not he also has a little brother, step brother William, who's the son of Tigra and the Skrollhank Pim, and to make things really nuts in a reality that has since been erased, Janet was married to Alex Summers and has a daughter named Katie, named after Alex and Scott's mom, who's been pulled out of the time stream by Kang the Conqueror.
- 36:07[UNKNOWN]: In a story that has to be resolved someday, that child is still out there.
- 36:10[UNKNOWN]: It's been over a decade.
- 36:12[UNKNOWN]: A little Katie Summers has never been resolved.
- 36:15[UNKNOWN]: Habit is the brother of Cyclops and Vulcan and Adam X and the uncle of cable and Rachel and Strife and I'm just gonna end it there because it just goes on and on but go Jan. Ruth Ann, do you have thoughts on the Wasps superpowers?
- 36:27[UNKNOWN]: I like their pretty consistent right unlike a lot of the heroes who go through and they get like upgraded and downgraded again and they get swapped around other than in the stories where they get messed with like she shrinks or gets bigger so she changed their size she flies around and she stings you essentially with electricity.
- 36:44[UNKNOWN]: So you can always sort of expect how she's going to engage, but it's always interesting to see from situation the situation how it works out for her.
- 36:52[UNKNOWN]: Allison, occasionally the wasp will use her powers in ways that feel very unlike her, like growing to 40 foot size or like zipping herself into a monster's body and then growing to full size to explode it from the inside.
- 37:05[UNKNOWN]: Once in a while we get stuff like that.
- 37:07[UNKNOWN]: What are your thoughts on the wasp when she gets used in extreme ways?
- 37:11[UNKNOWN]: Hell yeah, it's I think it's it's super cool.
- 37:14[UNKNOWN]: It's stuff that maybe you don't want to do with antman because he sucks.
- 37:18[UNKNOWN]: Um, so you do it with loss and it's more fun and generally do have thoughts on the genet van binds family tree.
- 37:25[UNKNOWN]: Wow.
- 37:25[UNKNOWN]: Wow.
- 37:26[UNKNOWN]: Wow.
- 37:27[UNKNOWN]: I didn't know Jocasa was based off of her and that whole dynamic of Jocasa being seen as the replacement Avengers when everyone else's book I think is very telling.
- 37:49[UNKNOWN]: Okay, and then we also have to talk about Janet's first love, her fashion, from her very earliest appearance.
- 37:54[UNKNOWN]: So she's been in love with a costume design, a mod look, a short skirt, a fur-lined hood, a pair of boots, she loves bold colors and tight fits, she loves showing off her body, she will border her costume on themes of lingerie, almost sometimes.
- 38:08[UNKNOWN]: She's been known to design costumes for her teammates.
- 38:11[UNKNOWN]: Some of your favorite superhero costumes have been designed canonically by Janet Bandine.
- 38:15[UNKNOWN]: She'll take time to individualize looks based on personal fashion, color choices, and iconography.
- 38:21[UNKNOWN]: Some of her looks border on camp and classic, others on modern and edgy.
- 38:24[UNKNOWN]: And one of her very first solo stories in the mid 60s, she's celebrating her first fashion line, release, while also battling a super villain.
- 38:31[UNKNOWN]: And what
- 38:32[UNKNOWN]: One of her most recent appearances, Anthony Olavara, writes her consulting with the kids and Avengers Academy, letting them be true to themselves while designing them looks based on functionality.
- 38:41[UNKNOWN]: She's so fun to pair up with characters like She-Hulk and Hellcat at others for so many reasons.
- 38:46[UNKNOWN]: It's such a huge part of her experience.
- 38:48[UNKNOWN]: Mandy and Alicia and I did a Wasp Fashion Conversation Earlier this month for those of you that got to hear it.
- 38:53[UNKNOWN]: Mandy Wasp gets a lot of bug looks over the years.
- 38:57[UNKNOWN]: What are your thoughts every time she's turned into like a murder hornet?
- 39:01[UNKNOWN]: It's awful because so even even in that movie that you mentioned, the boss woman, there is a very huge trope of taking a beautiful competent woman and turning her into a monster even as recent as the substance where, you know, a woman is obsessed with her, her youth and again injecting herself with some experimental serum and turning into a monster.
- 39:24[UNKNOWN]: When then she explodes on like the Oscar stage or something.
- 39:27[UNKNOWN]: I haven't seen the movie body horror is not one of my favorite things But apparently that's the thing that happens When she gets turned into a monster, it's usually like, oh, well, we have to it's like you have to punish like the pretty girl and it's Again, it's a gross trope, but fortunately it always comes back.
- 39:44[UNKNOWN]: We talked about it
- 39:46[UNKNOWN]: on the in the in the fashion review.
- 39:49[UNKNOWN]: My least favorite is got to be the one in the 90s during the crossing because it is just it's the colors are all wrong.
- 39:55[UNKNOWN]: The look is absolutely insane.
- 39:59[UNKNOWN]: It's crazy.
- 39:59[UNKNOWN]: Alicia, what are some common themes you see in wasps fashion and do you have any favorite color combination.
- 40:05[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 40:05[UNKNOWN]: I'm a big fan of just like the classic red and black color combination.
- 40:09[UNKNOWN]: I think she does that very well and she has a lot of iterations.
- 40:12[UNKNOWN]: And I think like taking it back to like really the mod roots and expanding on that, you know, we had a lot of fun talking about her hairdo and her hairstyles and that cute little Bob with a little wispy bang is where it's at for her.
- 40:24[UNKNOWN]: I think and even in some of her fashion choices that are not her costumes, these like little cutie boots with like matching gloves kind of like a shift dress.
- 40:34[UNKNOWN]: style with some fun accessories.
- 40:37[UNKNOWN]: Like she has a lot of iterations of that, and I feel like whenever she has that is like the baseline, those are some of her most successful costumes because they are both fashionable and functional, right?
- 40:46[UNKNOWN]: Like she can still do what she has to do because she's always got like the body suit underneath, but the silhouette is super cute.
- 40:52[UNKNOWN]: The shoulder pads or like the big shoulders super cute.
- 40:55[UNKNOWN]: She really knows how to create a shape that of with this silhouette that is very flattering to her physical form.
- 41:01[UNKNOWN]: So those are those are the key points for me.
- 41:04[UNKNOWN]: Do we have any favorite looks for the wasp from Geneli Rufan in Alice and do you have a favorite wasp costume not like costume so much as the headwear I'm very big fan of like the tear drop shapes finger hat just think it's great.
- 41:16[UNKNOWN]: Okay, let's talk a little bit about her love life Rufan, what are your thoughts on a Genet Van Dyne dating Clint Barton or Hawkeye Well, horrible
- 41:28[UNKNOWN]: I don't know, in the story that I read it was just, you know, stupid honey, Clinton comics, it's just a crane wreck.
- 41:34[UNKNOWN]: I don't know why you would climb a board.
- 41:35[UNKNOWN]: He's so hot.
- 41:38[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I mean, let's, we, I mean, I know why I would climb a board.
- 41:42[UNKNOWN]: It's not a smart choice, but he said relationships, though.
- 41:47[UNKNOWN]: So, don't climb on the trade wreck.
- 41:49[UNKNOWN]: Walking birds, spider woman, walls, but never goes well.
- 41:53[UNKNOWN]: Allison, what are your thoughts on Janet Van Dyne and
- 41:57[UNKNOWN]: Uh, sure girl.
- 41:58[UNKNOWN]: Go for it.
- 41:59[UNKNOWN]: Sure.
- 41:59[UNKNOWN]: I'm I'm always I'm always up for people having a bad night with Magneto It's probably it's they'll probably remember it forever.
- 42:07[UNKNOWN]: It'll probably be really great, but then they're like all right now I gotta go do other stuff.
- 42:11[UNKNOWN]: I love this.
- 42:12[UNKNOWN]: I love it.
- 42:12[UNKNOWN]: I
- 42:14[UNKNOWN]: When it's, whenever Magneto comes out in a robe, I'm like, we're gonna be eating good tonight.
- 42:20[UNKNOWN]: Do you divorce his Hank Pim and then Climes and Bed with Magneto?
- 42:23[UNKNOWN]: Who's like 100 years old?
- 42:24[UNKNOWN]: It makes me so happy.
- 42:25[UNKNOWN]: Go for it, girl.
- 42:27[UNKNOWN]: Demanda, do you have thoughts on Janet's relationship with Paladin?
- 42:30[UNKNOWN]: So Paladin's the one that I know the least about.
- 42:33[UNKNOWN]: I've, like, the only thing I really know about him is that he is just continually a problem.
- 42:37[UNKNOWN]: Like, no one really likes him.
- 42:39[UNKNOWN]: Like, he doesn't even like make it a buzzer.
- 42:40[UNKNOWN]: It's like, sea-list.
- 42:42[UNKNOWN]: He's like the guy that you go to the Bahamas with for a weekend.
- 42:45[UNKNOWN]: He's he's a super spy like Merc for higher outside of Janet Van Dyne the other people that he's consistently seen with are like ass black mama and diamond back from the bad girls like they're always going on island vacations with him
- 42:57[UNKNOWN]: And he has a hat, here's also on Wild Pack, right?
- 43:00[UNKNOWN]: With Silver Sables, because that's what I know him from, and even then, like, very tangently.
- 43:06[UNKNOWN]: Again, like, girl, he's good for a weekend fuck.
- 43:08[UNKNOWN]: I guess, like, good for you.
- 43:10[UNKNOWN]: I mean, like, mostly superhero guys are hot.
- 43:12[UNKNOWN]: So, like, and we'll talk about, we'll talk about that in a minute.
- 43:15[UNKNOWN]: I will say I read a comic with Paladin and wasp in it and I like their interactions.
- 43:20[UNKNOWN]: It's very they're just just self indulgingly flirting with each other and she loves his ass.
- 43:26[UNKNOWN]: It's really good.
- 43:27[UNKNOWN]: Oh, that's fun.
- 43:28[UNKNOWN]: Good for her.
- 43:29[UNKNOWN]: Hawkeye's a good lay Paladin's the rich guy that you go on vacation with.
- 43:32[UNKNOWN]: Genolete thoughts on Janet Van Dyne and Tony Stark.
- 43:35[UNKNOWN]: I like them.
- 43:37[UNKNOWN]: I hear that he lied to her.
- 43:40[UNKNOWN]: Um, but I think that they're very flirty fun.
- 43:42[UNKNOWN]: They're more modern.
- 43:43[UNKNOWN]: They're more modern relationship, like in the, like the one from like 10 years ago, it's, it's pretty well-written.
- 43:49[UNKNOWN]: I proved.
- 43:49[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 43:50[UNKNOWN]: Uh, and then, uh, and then lastly, uh, Alicia, do you have thoughts on Janet Bandine and Alex Summers?
- 43:55[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I don't know a lot about their relationship, but I know enough about Alex to say, don't do it, girl, it's not worth it.
- 44:04[UNKNOWN]: You know, like, I just feel, here's my thought, right, without knowing their relationship, knowing what she has gone through in the past and her past relationships and and being like constantly seeking validation.
- 44:16[UNKNOWN]: Alex is the same way.
- 44:18[UNKNOWN]: He needs someone to like hype him up and like tell him that he is worthy and two people who need that aren't They don't need each other, right?
- 44:26[UNKNOWN]: Like that's they need a little bit more love in their lives Like a little more self-confidence maybe one of them before they could be together So I don't I feel like that's a recipe for disaster.
- 44:35[UNKNOWN]: It's bad choice He loves a hot blonde and hey everybody Do you know how many people really hot women including rogue and also bloodstone that Deadpool has fucked
- 44:47[UNKNOWN]: It's so many.
- 44:50[UNKNOWN]: No, no.
- 44:51[UNKNOWN]: Do we have anyone you ship Janet with?
- 44:53[UNKNOWN]: Is there anyone you'd love to see her day?
- 44:55[UNKNOWN]: So in the, like, in one of the books that I read, she and she and Jen, she and she hook her rating the men of the Avengers, which is super fun.
- 45:06[UNKNOWN]: So cute.
- 45:07[UNKNOWN]: Super fun.
- 45:08[UNKNOWN]: She definitely has a type like I kind of wish that she did eventually try to go for Steve because like it kind of makes sense.
- 45:18[UNKNOWN]: Like again like the two leaders of the team he is obviously like the symbol of the avenger.
- 45:23[UNKNOWN]: She is also like the female equivalent symbol of the avengers.
- 45:26[UNKNOWN]: I mean like now I guess more it's Carol.
- 45:28[UNKNOWN]: Like more people in in Natasha.
- 45:30[UNKNOWN]: But like Janet is like she is the lady of
- 45:35[UNKNOWN]: I think her having like a really good boy, which she's never really had before, I think would be good for her.
- 45:41[UNKNOWN]: The weirdest one that I just kind of wanna ship because it's just so bad is Janet dating Wonderman, who is the brain template for the vision, who's like the child of her husband's evil robots up.
- 45:52[UNKNOWN]: It's just so messy.
- 45:53[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
- 45:54[UNKNOWN]: I think she just date to Chala.
- 45:57[UNKNOWN]: She could get a little.
- 45:58[UNKNOWN]: She could use a little adventure in her life in a little.
- 46:01[UNKNOWN]: I think he would be really good at like centering her and being like there's more to you.
- 46:05[UNKNOWN]: You have value To tell it is a bad boyfriend and a worse husband though.
- 46:10[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's so tough in his shit.
- 46:12[UNKNOWN]: I just love it.
- 46:14[UNKNOWN]: I want her to date someone really stable.
- 46:16[UNKNOWN]: It'll come to me
- 46:17[UNKNOWN]: And I prefer to date Shuhawk.
- 46:19[UNKNOWN]: Yes, I agree that.
- 46:21[UNKNOWN]: Yes, I'm right.
- 46:22[UNKNOWN]: And like I love she hulking jack of hearts together so much though I really do Current generous such good friends like it's it's a really good dynamic.
- 46:32[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 46:32[UNKNOWN]: No, that's how it starts right of course.
- 46:36[UNKNOWN]: Well, with that, let us commence with the trial of Janet Van Dyne, except surprise.
- 46:40[UNKNOWN]: I really couldn't find anything to put around trial for like seriously.
- 46:44[UNKNOWN]: Sometimes I have to get really creative with these trials.
- 46:46[UNKNOWN]: Like, oh, there's a mind control section or a time someone made a bunch of bad decisions, but I don't want to put Janet on trial for Hank's drama or bad romantic decisions or bad fashion.
- 46:57[UNKNOWN]: Or even bad decision, she made while leader of the Avengers because then it becomes an Avengers trial.
- 47:03[UNKNOWN]: She did her best, which basically just leaves us with the time she gets mutated into some like monster wasp form, but there's not enough to go off of there.
- 47:11[UNKNOWN]: I really wanted to focus our conversations about Janet for our presentations on her solo stories or the stories that are really impactful.
- 47:19[UNKNOWN]: There are some Ichi alternate reality versions of the wasp out there as well, but I didn't want to do that in the trial.
- 47:24[UNKNOWN]: So we're going to keep this focused on Jan.
- 47:26[UNKNOWN]: So the judge in this case is just ruling that she is innocent.
- 47:29[UNKNOWN]: And instead of hosting a trial, we're just going to celebrate an excellent character today.
- 47:33[UNKNOWN]: So thanks everybody for going along on the ride.
- 47:35[UNKNOWN]: So instead of discussing prosecutions and defenses, I'm gonna have each jury member tell us about a series of Janet stories.
- 47:41[UNKNOWN]: Each one of you has been assigned a solo short Janet story, a murder wasp story, and a truly fun wasp story line.
- 47:51[UNKNOWN]: And then we'll just nerd out about her and talk about what we love.
- 47:53[UNKNOWN]: We're going to open with my friend, Demand and Martini, talking to us about a series of wasps stories from Avengers West Coast annual number four, the backup.
- 48:01[UNKNOWN]: The initial wasps solo stories from Tales to Estonish 52-58, the backup stories, and Jan's first time transforming into a murder wasp from Marvel feature 5-10.
- 48:13[UNKNOWN]: Avengers West Coast backup is by far the best of this, but there are there are a lot of recurring themes that happen number one Hank is the worst number two Hank still the worst, but we start with Avengers West Coast annual number four the backup.
- 48:30[UNKNOWN]: So it is sort of like, um, for those of us who may be old enough to remember if we remember Cisco and Ebert, they're sitting at in a movie theater and they both have popcorn because they are ready to judge some men.
- 48:43[UNKNOWN]: And on the giant projector screen, they're going to give the men ratings from one to ten at one being absolute worse, never.
- 48:52[UNKNOWN]: And Jen and
- 48:53[UNKNOWN]: I do appreciate Jen and Jen's taste and men quite well.
- 48:59[UNKNOWN]: It's really good, but they go through and explain what a one through ten means and it's great.
- 49:04[UNKNOWN]: This story is a laugh out loud funny.
- 49:06[UNKNOWN]: It's it's so good.
- 49:07[UNKNOWN]: Uh, first up was Thor, both of them without without hesitation like ten.
- 49:12[UNKNOWN]: He's he's a god ten, although Jen does wish he didn't know that he knew.
- 49:16[UNKNOWN]: Like a store knows that he's a ten and Jen just wishes he didn't know.
- 49:20[UNKNOWN]: Second up Iron Man, Jen gives him a 7 because she's like, he's an armor.
- 49:25[UNKNOWN]: I don't really, I don't really know what's going on there.
- 49:29[UNKNOWN]: And Jen goes, I do know what's going on there.
- 49:32[UNKNOWN]: I'm giving him a 9.
- 49:33[UNKNOWN]: He gives Tom Selek a run for his money, which I'm like, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 49:37[UNKNOWN]: Next up is cat.
- 49:39[UNKNOWN]: Jen gives him an 8.
- 49:40[UNKNOWN]: She says he's up tight.
- 49:42[UNKNOWN]: Jan says 10.
- 49:43[UNKNOWN]: Hands down.
- 49:43[UNKNOWN]: Jen have to agree.
- 49:45[UNKNOWN]: Next up is Quick Silver, which is hilarious.
- 49:49[UNKNOWN]: Jan says he's a creep, he's a four.
- 49:52[UNKNOWN]: She's like, I don't really know him that well, but he's a creep.
- 49:54[UNKNOWN]: Jan says, I'll give him a five.
- 49:55[UNKNOWN]: He does have great legs.
- 49:57[UNKNOWN]: Love that, love that.
- 49:58[UNKNOWN]: Next up is Hawkeye.
- 50:00[UNKNOWN]: Jan gives him an eight obnoxious but cute, which also amazing.
- 50:05[UNKNOWN]: Obviously we know that later, she's gonna be hooking up with this man.
- 50:08[UNKNOWN]: Jan says he's a six.
- 50:10[UNKNOWN]: He's got a cute tush.
- 50:11[UNKNOWN]: And she uses the word tush, which is great.
- 50:14[UNKNOWN]: I love that.
- 50:14[UNKNOWN]: Next up is Hercules.
- 50:16[UNKNOWN]: Jan says, looks 10 personality says it.
- 50:20[UNKNOWN]: Which also, yes, Jan, that is 100% correct.
- 50:24[UNKNOWN]: Jan says he's a 10, he knows how to party.
- 50:26[UNKNOWN]: Which I love, because also, Jan also loves to party.
- 50:30[UNKNOWN]: Next up Black Panther, Jan gives him an eight.
- 50:33[UNKNOWN]: She says he's a charmer.
- 50:34[UNKNOWN]: Jan gives him a nine.
- 50:36[UNKNOWN]: She says he has great animal magnetism.
- 50:39[UNKNOWN]: Love that.
- 50:39[UNKNOWN]: This one is probably my favorite out of all of them.
- 50:44[UNKNOWN]: Jen, who's kind of her kid, kind of.
- 50:47[UNKNOWN]: Right, right.
- 50:48[UNKNOWN]: Um, Jen, she all says, he's a one.
- 50:51[UNKNOWN]: He's a toaster, but I guess if you're into that, which is amazing.
- 50:55[UNKNOWN]: Jen, Janet says, I'll give him a three.
- 50:58[UNKNOWN]: He kind of has like a Mr. Spock quality, which I'm like, okay, okay, a next step is the black knight.
- 51:05[UNKNOWN]: Janet says, I'm gonna give him a seven, but he reminds me of my ex, girl.
- 51:13[UNKNOWN]: But she hooks as he's a five.
- 51:15[UNKNOWN]: He talks into which medieval lingo.
- 51:17[UNKNOWN]: Falcon, she hooks as a five.
- 51:20[UNKNOWN]: He's not Captain America.
- 51:21[UNKNOWN]: And I'm like, oh, she hulk.
- 51:23[UNKNOWN]: You were going to start a war on Twitter.
- 51:25[UNKNOWN]: And Jan says, I'm going to give him a set seven.
- 51:28[UNKNOWN]: He has a subtle coolness.
- 51:29[UNKNOWN]: which I like that, wonder man who again, Chad just brought up.
- 51:34[UNKNOWN]: Janet says an eight.
- 51:35[UNKNOWN]: He's hot and sensitive and not a lot of people know that.
- 51:39[UNKNOWN]: Jen says he's a seven.
- 51:41[UNKNOWN]: He's got good hair, but weird eyes.
- 51:43[UNKNOWN]: She doesn't talk about like the fact that his eyes glow red.
- 51:46[UNKNOWN]: Next up is Star Fox, which Jen says he's an eight.
- 51:51[UNKNOWN]: He's sleazy, good for a fling, which we love.
- 51:55[UNKNOWN]: Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 51:59[UNKNOWN]: Well, and she won't kind of a history with this character.
- 52:01[UNKNOWN]: Yes, a couple of times.
- 52:03[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 52:03[UNKNOWN]: And so like I don't know like where this is actually lives in continuity, but she's the one who puts them on trial, right?
- 52:09[UNKNOWN]: Or she's the one who has to defend him.
- 52:10[UNKNOWN]: Like, yeah, yeah, like I love that bit of stuff.
- 52:13[UNKNOWN]: Next up is name or Janet says a six, which I'm like, girl, are you okay?
- 52:19[UNKNOWN]: Are you, are you losing your vision?
- 52:21[UNKNOWN]: She says he's hunky, but he's two intense.
- 52:23[UNKNOWN]: Which salad, Jen says he's an eight,
- 52:27[UNKNOWN]: more men need to wear costumes like this.
- 52:31[UNKNOWN]: Yes, Jen is a girl's girl.
- 52:33[UNKNOWN]: She'll, yep, okay, my second favorite because like the vision was so hilarious, but this one actually made me laugh out loud.
- 52:40[UNKNOWN]: Next up is Dr. Druid.
- 52:42[UNKNOWN]: It literally says they both gag.
- 52:44[UNKNOWN]: And I think they both go,
- 52:51[UNKNOWN]: Janet says it's a one worst Avenger ever.
- 52:54[UNKNOWN]: He's got a pot belly.
- 52:56[UNKNOWN]: Jen says he's a one Howdy attitude snooty bought his Boston accent dumb go-t
- 53:03[UNKNOWN]: So good, so good.
- 53:05[UNKNOWN]: Next up, Mr.
- 53:05[UNKNOWN]: Fantastic, who is not who is not an Avenger for very long.
- 53:08[UNKNOWN]: Jen says a nine, she loves brainy men with pipes.
- 53:12[UNKNOWN]: Red Flag, red Flag, they're a Janet Van Dyne.
- 53:15[UNKNOWN]: Jen says he's a four, because he's ineligible.
- 53:19[UNKNOWN]: He cannot separate him from Susan, which I'm like, Jen, you're, see she's a good person, we love that.
- 53:24[UNKNOWN]: Next up is Gilgamesh.
- 53:26[UNKNOWN]: Jen says a seven, he's a little too sad.
- 53:30[UNKNOWN]: Jan, Jan, it says he's also a seven, she wants to mother him, which I'm like, oh no, but he does have a silly costume, which is true.
- 53:40[UNKNOWN]: This is another, this is another great moment.
- 53:42[UNKNOWN]: The next image is US agent and Janet and me, because oh, him.
- 53:49[UNKNOWN]: Janet gives him a three.
- 53:51[UNKNOWN]: She's like, he's like Captain America, but there's just something awesome about him.
- 53:55[UNKNOWN]: Jen says he's a five because he still has the body, but Captain Sue, and I'm like correct.
- 54:01[UNKNOWN]: And then last but not least, the newest Avenger is Quasar.
- 54:05[UNKNOWN]: Jen says, Jen says he's a six, he's cute, but nothing special.
- 54:08[UNKNOWN]: Jan also says he's a six.
- 54:10[UNKNOWN]: He's got potential, just not there.
- 54:12[UNKNOWN]: And then they go into the three that they did not rate.
- 54:15[UNKNOWN]: Hulk, who is Jen's cousin, so she was like, we're not doing that.
- 54:18[UNKNOWN]: Hank, Jen's accent, she's like, absolutely not.
- 54:21[UNKNOWN]: And the story's been, cause he's dead.
- 54:22[UNKNOWN]: So that was extremely entertaining.
- 54:25[UNKNOWN]: Thank you, Chad, Chad knows to like serve my interest and then rage bait me and the next two stories that he gave me.
- 54:32[UNKNOWN]: where the tailster astonished 52 to 58.
- 54:34[UNKNOWN]: So these are the back of stories to the main stories, which Jan does appear in the regular stories.
- 54:40[UNKNOWN]: But in the back of stories, so spoiler alert for all of them.
- 54:43[UNKNOWN]: These solo stories are not even her getting to go on an adventure.
- 54:46[UNKNOWN]: They're her telling weird sci-fi stories to someone usually a man who doesn't really listen to her.
- 54:51[UNKNOWN]: It's a recurring theme for her to be putting on lipstick or looking at a compact.
- 54:55[UNKNOWN]: It's really frustrating because he's at her first solo.
- 54:58[UNKNOWN]: Number, so number 52, Wasp tells a really dumb sci-fi story to a bunch of orphans.
- 55:03[UNKNOWN]: Nothing special.
- 55:04[UNKNOWN]: 53, Jan tells Hank a story about how she's going to tell a bunch of handsome GIs as she's putting on her face, which of course he's not listening to her.
- 55:12[UNKNOWN]: And the next issue it opens with the thongering and Jan says, and I quote,
- 55:17[UNKNOWN]: The phone ringing, it's music to the ears of any female.
- 55:21[UNKNOWN]: It's a bedtime story that Jan has to tell to a friend's kid because she's babysitting.
- 55:26[UNKNOWN]: Cool.
- 55:26[UNKNOWN]: In number 55, Hank literally swats at Jan telling her to buzz off.
- 55:32[UNKNOWN]: While she tells him a weird tale of an alien posing as a gypsy fortune teller, Hank is still real cool.
- 55:38[UNKNOWN]: And number 56, Jen and Hank are working out.
- 55:41[UNKNOWN]: She tells this really dumb tale.
- 55:43[UNKNOWN]: Hank is mad that she black nails him into finishing the riddle by taking her to dinner.
- 55:48[UNKNOWN]: It's really, so there's like a riddle in the story.
- 55:50[UNKNOWN]: It's about like this animal that's keeping a woman on one side of the bridge.
- 55:54[UNKNOWN]: And in order for her to finish the story, she's like, you have to take me to dinner first.
- 55:57[UNKNOWN]: And then he gets mad and it's like, oh, so stupid.
- 56:00[UNKNOWN]: So we get to number 57.
- 56:01[UNKNOWN]: Jan finally gets an adventure to herself.
- 56:05[UNKNOWN]: She brings a jewelry thief to justice while running late to a date with Hank who doesn't believe her quote and quote excuse.
- 56:14[UNKNOWN]: Because Jan shrank, the news quoted like the invisible woman, a girl defeated this criminal.
- 56:19[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, it wasn't the invisible girl.
- 56:20[UNKNOWN]: It was me and he's like, yeah, right, Jan. Like, it's
- 56:23[UNKNOWN]: It's so, so frustrating.
- 56:25[UNKNOWN]: And then in number 58, the magician escapes and Jan must get him on her own also a waspensite a waspensite fashion line comes to a department store.
- 56:34[UNKNOWN]: Jan is thrilled.
- 56:36[UNKNOWN]: So those are her first solo stories.
- 56:38[UNKNOWN]: Okay, love that.
- 56:40[UNKNOWN]: Do you really tell us how you really feel to me?
- 56:44[UNKNOWN]: I mean Marvel has a bunch of like solo titles for like Patsy Walker in Miss America and stuff, but when you think about the 60s girls, Jean Gray didn't have a backup feature like the Wasp stands in history for that reason as like, but but did she really because the first couple stories are her telling a story that has nothing to do with her and it's also all male centered sci-fi stories.
- 57:03[UNKNOWN]: Like it's it's not it's not great.
- 57:06[UNKNOWN]: Perth and agreed.
- 57:07[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 57:08[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's not great.
- 57:09[UNKNOWN]: So Marvel feature 5 through 10, this story is wild.
- 57:14[UNKNOWN]: It's, it's, it's, it's, so Marvel features like the same topology series and so Hank and Hank and Jan kind of take the center for like this bit of it, but like so much happens, but also nothing happens, like you guys know those issues where it's like all of these stories are connected and there's like a villain of the week in each one, but like none of them really matter.
- 57:35[UNKNOWN]: It's, it's very strange,
- 57:37[UNKNOWN]: Hank and Janet are put through the ringer by a string of villains, Egghead, Paraman, sure he's a thing that happens.
- 57:44[UNKNOWN]: And whirlwind, Hank and Janet are thought dead in a fire in Hank's lab while they're both stuck in miniature form.
- 57:50[UNKNOWN]: Janet is turned into a wasp creature after being shot by a weird sci-fi weapon by the whirlwind.
- 57:55[UNKNOWN]: Again, sure that makes all the sense.
- 57:58[UNKNOWN]: And you describe this wasp look so it's literally Janet with just a wasp ass coming out of her like and like and like she gets like weird like things for some reason I'm not sure what that's about she's a sense of her except like a wasp on the butt right it looks like she and I'm sorry to be like so
- 58:24[UNKNOWN]: So there's a, like one of the issues is just like a whole flashback to Jan's first outing as the wasp, but I'm like, cool, thanks for the, thanks for the flashback episode golden girls.
- 58:33[UNKNOWN]: Janet, then attacks Hank, but it's conflicted by her true feelings and her murderous rage.
- 58:38[UNKNOWN]: Though honestly, I feel like she should lean into the murder.
- 58:41[UNKNOWN]: Eventually, Hank uses his helmet's powers of insect communication to stop her and compel her to change back to a human.
- 58:49[UNKNOWN]: Which is why y'all?
- 58:51[UNKNOWN]: What do you mean that that is how that works?
- 58:53[UNKNOWN]: But the mutation could return.
- 58:55[UNKNOWN]: So while Jan flies away, fearing for Hank's life, she's attacked by a house cat.
- 59:01[UNKNOWN]: I'm not kidding.
- 59:02[UNKNOWN]: It's a house cat.
- 59:03[UNKNOWN]: In fact, it's a kitten that we find out later.
- 59:05[UNKNOWN]: triggering her transformation again.
- 59:07[UNKNOWN]: They're then saved from the cat by Dr.
- 59:10[UNKNOWN]: Nemesis.
- 59:11[UNKNOWN]: Who the fuck is Dr.
- 59:12[UNKNOWN]: Nemesis who wants to boil question mark them and his experiments, at least gets a naked Hankpin back to normal size.
- 59:21[UNKNOWN]: And I guess Jen is healed.
- 59:24[UNKNOWN]: It's not really clear how that happens, but Nemesis wants access to Avengers HQ.
- 59:29[UNKNOWN]: Okay, girl, like we get it, you want to get inside.
- 59:35[UNKNOWN]: That's literally the story you guys.
- 59:37[UNKNOWN]: So let's go to Alicia next.
- 59:40[UNKNOWN]: These are going to be stories from Marvel Comics presents number 48, Avengers volume 15 and 60, Avengers annual number eight, and then Marvel team up 59 and 60.
- 59:53[UNKNOWN]: Okay, all right, let's get this.
- 59:55[UNKNOWN]: So first, in Marvel Comics presents number 48, this is a short little story.
- 1:00:00[UNKNOWN]: It's only like eight pages long.
- 1:00:02[UNKNOWN]: The real gist of the story is that Jan's publicist is really trying to encourage her to get back out there and he's like, hi, his name is Harlan and he's like, listen, Jan, you gotta get out.
- 1:00:13[UNKNOWN]: You gotta, you gotta love your fans.
- 1:00:15[UNKNOWN]: He's really trying to like work that angle for her.
- 1:00:18[UNKNOWN]: Like, people want you, I want people to want you.
- 1:00:20[UNKNOWN]: Like, let's get you back out in the public eye.
- 1:00:22[UNKNOWN]: There's this like phone call that happens in the beginning of the issue that like wires or electricity or something is coming through the phone is like wrapping her all up and basically like she's attacked through the phone what is going on and she contacts the police and the police have traced this to a house right.
- 1:00:38[UNKNOWN]: So she goes to this house because she's like, you know what, I'm just gonna talk to this fan and I'm gonna be like, what's going on?
- 1:00:44[UNKNOWN]: You're a little, it's a little much, right?
- 1:00:46[UNKNOWN]: Let's pump the brakes, okay?
- 1:00:48[UNKNOWN]: So she goes to his house and not only does he have powers but he is obsessed with Jan, this fan.
- 1:00:55[UNKNOWN]: He has like his walls are wallpapered with like articles about her information about her.
- 1:01:00[UNKNOWN]: He's like living his best life in his Jan sanctuary that he has created.
- 1:01:05[UNKNOWN]: And then he wants Jan to love him back, but he's like, oh, this is this is a little much and she doesn't love him back.
- 1:01:13[UNKNOWN]: So what does he do?
- 1:01:14[UNKNOWN]: He attacks.
- 1:01:15[UNKNOWN]: He kind of gives like super villain energy and, you know, the end of the day, Jan thwarts him from his super villainry and discovers that
- 1:01:24[UNKNOWN]: He was very much like hyped up by Harlan.
- 1:01:27[UNKNOWN]: This kid was set up to be obsessed with Jan, to cause a scene and put himself in danger, essentially.
- 1:01:34[UNKNOWN]: So Harlan wanted Jan to save the day by taking down this over-obsessed person in order to rebuild her standing with the community.
- 1:01:43[UNKNOWN]: And instead, Jan says, Harlan, you dirty biscuit, you're fired.
- 1:01:47[UNKNOWN]: Like, how dare you?
- 1:01:48[UNKNOWN]: How dare you use my fans like this?
- 1:01:50[UNKNOWN]: There's even a moment where the fans says something
- 1:01:54[UNKNOWN]: And she throws that right back in Harlan's face at him, like, people are more important than money, Harlan, like, we need to bump the brakes on this nonsense.
- 1:02:03[UNKNOWN]: So that's our little nugget of a story there.
- 1:02:06[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:02:06[UNKNOWN]: Now we're moving on to Avengers 59 and 60.
- 1:02:09[UNKNOWN]: Okay, but you ever read this story?
- 1:02:11[UNKNOWN]: No.
- 1:02:11[UNKNOWN]: I love it.
- 1:02:12[UNKNOWN]: I love it.
- 1:02:14[UNKNOWN]: I love like I none of this stuff that I read for this had I ever read before and also I don't really know a lot about yellow jacket so the like twists of yellow jacket were We're like you just surprised us for you as a reader.
- 1:02:27[UNKNOWN]: Oh, that's great.
- 1:02:27[UNKNOWN]: Yes, yes, which is very fun.
- 1:02:30[UNKNOWN]: So we start out the issue with a new hero, yellow jacket appearing on the scene.
- 1:02:34[UNKNOWN]: Who are you?
- 1:02:34[UNKNOWN]: What's your name?
- 1:02:35[UNKNOWN]: You saved the day, who are you?
- 1:02:37[UNKNOWN]: No information.
- 1:02:38[UNKNOWN]: I'm yellow jacket.
- 1:02:39[UNKNOWN]: Buzz is away.
- 1:02:40[UNKNOWN]: We cut to the Avengers.
- 1:02:41[UNKNOWN]: They're trying to have a meeting, but Hank is late.
- 1:02:44[UNKNOWN]: Nobody knows where Hank is, and Jan is kind of in the corner thinking about how sad she is that Hank is always so preoccupied with inventing and
- 1:02:53[UNKNOWN]: He won't even like take a moment to grab a cup of coffee with her.
- 1:02:57[UNKNOWN]: Like at one point, she's like goes down to his lab and she's like, you want to take me to get some coffee, take a break and he's like, no, have a cup for me, like get out of here.
- 1:03:04[UNKNOWN]: So she's pretty sad about that.
- 1:03:06[UNKNOWN]: And then Yellowjacket shows up to this Avengers meeting.
- 1:03:09[UNKNOWN]: And he's like, you don't need Hank Pim anymore, because I'm here.
- 1:03:12[UNKNOWN]: I'm Yellowjacket and Jan proceeds to pass out.
- 1:03:16[UNKNOWN]: She thinks, because Yellowjacket says, oh, Hank's died.
- 1:03:19[UNKNOWN]: I've killed him, okay?
- 1:03:20[UNKNOWN]: You don't need, don't worry about it.
- 1:03:22[UNKNOWN]: And we get this nice little flashback story where we are told by Yellow Jacket how exactly he off-tank.
- 1:03:29[UNKNOWN]: And what he did was he creeped up on Hank's lab one night and while Hank was working to himself he was lamenting about how badly he wishes he could marry Janet.
- 1:03:38[UNKNOWN]: But he can't because he's too obsessed with his work and therefore that infuriates yellow jacket who comes up sneaks from behind Takes him out strength him down to even smaller than his regular ant man self throw some in a floorboard and feeds him to a spider and says That's it dead now and yes because Hank's reasoning was that he couldn't possibly take time to marry Jan because There were so many secrets of the universe that he needed to unveil before he could be with her and I just wrote my notes
- 1:04:07[UNKNOWN]: So the Avengers are just ready to kill Yellowjacket.
- 1:04:11[UNKNOWN]: They're like you killed Hank.
- 1:04:12[UNKNOWN]: We've got to kill you and Jan She has questions.
- 1:04:15[UNKNOWN]: She's like something with this isn't sitting right.
- 1:04:17[UNKNOWN]: I need to ask more questions in the midst of all this craziness Yellowjacket just straight up kidnaps Jan.
- 1:04:23[UNKNOWN]: He just grabs her from behind Hosted situation nobody couldn't near me.
- 1:04:26[UNKNOWN]: I'll kill the girl basically scoops her up flies away.
- 1:04:29[UNKNOWN]: Takes her.
- 1:04:29[UNKNOWN]: He knocks her out like he hits a nerve in her neck She passes out.
- 1:04:32[UNKNOWN]: He's like carrying her away like a damsel and distress
- 1:04:34[UNKNOWN]: takes her way.
- 1:04:35[UNKNOWN]: There is a very suggestive art in this moment of like what's going on between the two of them.
- 1:04:40[UNKNOWN]: So now they're at his little abode, his little um cave that he has made for himself.
- 1:04:45[UNKNOWN]: He's threatening her and calling her beautiful in the same sentence.
- 1:04:49[UNKNOWN]: He's basically
- 1:04:49[UNKNOWN]: like, he's like, shut the fuck up, you beautiful woman.
- 1:04:52[UNKNOWN]: And you're like, what, what, what, what?
- 1:04:54[UNKNOWN]: Okay, sir.
- 1:04:55[UNKNOWN]: She tries to slap him.
- 1:04:57[UNKNOWN]: He stops her and instead kisses her.
- 1:04:59[UNKNOWN]: There's no consent here.
- 1:05:00[UNKNOWN]: It is a very non-consensual kiss.
- 1:05:02[UNKNOWN]: She is saying, please stop kissing me and he is saying,
- 1:05:05[UNKNOWN]: I can't understand a word you're saying because I'm still kissing you.
- 1:05:10[UNKNOWN]: And while she is actively saying no, she is muffled.
- 1:05:13[UNKNOWN]: He hears a noise.
- 1:05:14[UNKNOWN]: He gets distracted.
- 1:05:15[UNKNOWN]: He stops kissing her.
- 1:05:16[UNKNOWN]: And suddenly, he says, it's okay, Jan, you can go.
- 1:05:20[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, Lee, but I don't want to.
- 1:05:22[UNKNOWN]: For some reason, I'm falling in love with this guy.
- 1:05:25[UNKNOWN]: We cut back to the Avengers.
- 1:05:27[UNKNOWN]: They are now able to track Jan. She, her, her, like, tracking systems for herself, like her, homing beacon or whatever has been turned back on.
- 1:05:34[UNKNOWN]: And they're going to find her.
- 1:05:35[UNKNOWN]: They're like, where is she?
- 1:05:36[UNKNOWN]: We have to protect her.
- 1:05:37[UNKNOWN]: What do we do?
- 1:05:38[UNKNOWN]: You see in the background, city hall and yellow jacket and the wasp are walking out of city hall together.
- 1:05:45[UNKNOWN]: And she, the Avengers go to attack him.
- 1:05:46[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, no, no, stop.
- 1:05:48[UNKNOWN]: We're getting married end of the issue.
- 1:05:50[UNKNOWN]: What?
- 1:05:51[UNKNOWN]: Okay, cut to Avengers number 60.
- 1:05:53[UNKNOWN]: We have this crazy cover with a big snake coming out of a wedding cake and tingling Jan, okay?
- 1:05:59[UNKNOWN]: So we're starting the issue with Captain America getting the invite to the wedding.
- 1:06:03[UNKNOWN]: And he is very confused as am I because she is lamenting over her love for Hank and suddenly one day later, she is marrying Yellowjacket.
- 1:06:12[UNKNOWN]: Okay, Cap goes to the Avengers.
- 1:06:13[UNKNOWN]: He's trying to get some information.
- 1:06:15[UNKNOWN]: We have a problematic moment here where Hawkeye calls to Chala jungle man and I hate that.
- 1:06:20[UNKNOWN]: So I just needed to point that out.
- 1:06:22[UNKNOWN]: And the team is really trying to understand why would Jan do this?
- 1:06:25[UNKNOWN]: Why would she want to marry this man?
- 1:06:27[UNKNOWN]: What is going on here?
- 1:06:28[UNKNOWN]: And, you know, they have questions like, is it because yellow jacket wants her money because yellow jacket has come up with these inventions over like, you know, the whatever 48 hours that they run together is actually used some of her money where Hank would never do that before and she really puts her foot down to the team and she's like, Hank is dead and I deserve to be with a genius and yellow jacket is a genius.
- 1:06:48[UNKNOWN]: So leave me alone, I'm going to marry him, okay?
- 1:06:50[UNKNOWN]: Now, we have Hawkeye, he's suspicious the whole time.
- 1:06:53[UNKNOWN]: Sue Storm and Crystal are helping her get ready.
- 1:06:56[UNKNOWN]: Crystal is feeling suspicious.
- 1:06:57[UNKNOWN]: She asks Jan some questions.
- 1:06:59[UNKNOWN]: Jan is not hearing it.
- 1:07:00[UNKNOWN]: She's like shooting Crystal down, but then you have her inner monologue where she's like, hmm, something does feel a rye here.
- 1:07:08[UNKNOWN]: Meanwhile, all of this is happening.
- 1:07:09[UNKNOWN]: And the wedding is about to take place.
- 1:07:11[UNKNOWN]: So this is wedding day everybody's getting ready.
- 1:07:13[UNKNOWN]: And there is a band of circus villains.
- 1:07:15[UNKNOWN]: The service of crime poses as the caterers and ties up Jarvis in the kitchen.
- 1:07:19[UNKNOWN]: It's amazing.
- 1:07:21[UNKNOWN]: They're like, they're all in the service quarters plotting their revenge.
- 1:07:25[UNKNOWN]: They really are there to take down Thor who thwarted them before, but they will also just, they're using this wedding as like a sense of destruction.
- 1:07:33[UNKNOWN]: They're here to ruin the day.
- 1:07:35[UNKNOWN]: So we get to the wedding.
- 1:07:36[UNKNOWN]: They've married all as wonderful, happy, happy.
- 1:07:38[UNKNOWN]: Jan is about to tell Yellowjack it's something important.
- 1:07:41[UNKNOWN]: She's like, I have to tell you something.
- 1:07:43[UNKNOWN]: And then there's no time.
- 1:07:44[UNKNOWN]: It's time to cut the cake.
- 1:07:45[UNKNOWN]: And a Viper comes from the cake.
- 1:07:47[UNKNOWN]: This snake is here.
- 1:07:48[UNKNOWN]: It's wrapped around her.
- 1:07:50[UNKNOWN]: What do we do?
- 1:07:50[UNKNOWN]: There's so much chaos.
- 1:07:51[UNKNOWN]: Who's attacking who?
- 1:07:52[UNKNOWN]: Who's saving Jan from this snake?
- 1:07:54[UNKNOWN]: What's going on?
- 1:07:55[UNKNOWN]: There's chaos with the circus people.
- 1:07:57[UNKNOWN]: The circus is everywhere.
- 1:07:59[UNKNOWN]: There's fighting.
- 1:07:59[UNKNOWN]: There's confusion.
- 1:08:00[UNKNOWN]: What's going on?
- 1:08:01[UNKNOWN]: Suddenly, it looks like Jan is going to be suffocated by the snake and what happens.
- 1:08:06[UNKNOWN]: But Hank rose to his larger size, bursting through the yellow jacket uniform.
- 1:08:11[UNKNOWN]: because we've never seen Yellowjacket out of him out of his uniform.
- 1:08:14[UNKNOWN]: So why was it that she fell in love with him so quickly?
- 1:08:17[UNKNOWN]: Why was it that she wanted to marry him?
- 1:08:19[UNKNOWN]: Because he was actually Hank, the whole time.
- 1:08:21[UNKNOWN]: And we learned that basically Hank got, there was like a chemical spill that he ingested, that then triggered this as they, they name it in this as schizophrenic episode, where this other side of him comes out, who is the opposite.
- 1:08:33[UNKNOWN]: of Hank.
- 1:08:34[UNKNOWN]: He is nice to Jan.
- 1:08:35[UNKNOWN]: He wants to marry her.
- 1:08:37[UNKNOWN]: He values her money, all of these things, and so she wants to marry him.
- 1:08:40[UNKNOWN]: The end of the issue, he's himself again, and she's like, well, just so you know, yellow jacket or Hank, the marriage is legal.
- 1:08:47[UNKNOWN]: So you're stuck with me.
- 1:08:49[UNKNOWN]: And do the left tracks.
- 1:08:52[UNKNOWN]: ridiculous, okay?
- 1:08:53[UNKNOWN]: So all of these stories really feel like they kind of are threaded together in in a pretty tight timeline.
- 1:08:59[UNKNOWN]: So now we're at Avengers annual and number eight and it's Jan's birthday, okay?
- 1:09:04[UNKNOWN]: And Hank is still going by Yellowjacket at this point.
- 1:09:06[UNKNOWN]: So he's he's on the team as Yellowjacket.
- 1:09:09[UNKNOWN]: He's in his lab.
- 1:09:10[UNKNOWN]: He's working on something.
- 1:09:11[UNKNOWN]: He's made for Jan for her birthday.
- 1:09:13[UNKNOWN]: She shows up and they're talking about going to dinner later.
- 1:09:16[UNKNOWN]: And he's like, no, no, no.
- 1:09:17[UNKNOWN]: She's like, I want to my gift early.
- 1:09:19[UNKNOWN]: Will you give it to me early?
- 1:09:20[UNKNOWN]: And he's like, no, no, no girl.
- 1:09:21[UNKNOWN]: No, you get your gift at dinner.
- 1:09:23[UNKNOWN]: That's how the world works.
- 1:09:24[UNKNOWN]: And he leaves.
- 1:09:25[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, oh, he's so fast.
- 1:09:26[UNKNOWN]: And he won't give me my gift.
- 1:09:27[UNKNOWN]: So dinner.
- 1:09:28[UNKNOWN]: But when I was, when I was coming in the room, he closed this drawer rather quickly.
- 1:09:33[UNKNOWN]: So let me snoop around his lab and see if I can find my birthday present.
- 1:09:37[UNKNOWN]: The drawer is now locked.
- 1:09:39[UNKNOWN]: So what does she do?
- 1:09:39[UNKNOWN]: She drinks herself, soup's tiny, and she goes inside, goes to the local.
- 1:09:43[UNKNOWN]: She finds this gem, and she's like, oh my gosh, is this my present, and she touches it.
- 1:09:48[UNKNOWN]: And when she does that, she is over, she releases Dr.
- 1:09:52[UNKNOWN]: Spectrum from the gem who overtakes her body.
- 1:09:55[UNKNOWN]: And let me tell you it was you really quickly in there's number 69, which is not long after the wedding issue that you just reviewed, we meet the squadron sinister who are grandmaster created villains who are parodies of the justice league of America.
- 1:10:12[UNKNOWN]: And one of them is Dr.
- 1:10:13[UNKNOWN]: Spectrum, who is the parody of the Green Lantern.
- 1:10:16[UNKNOWN]: And the original guy, his name is Kinji Obatu.
- 1:10:20[UNKNOWN]: And he has a prism that actually turns out to be a scroll, don't worry about it.
- 1:10:24[UNKNOWN]: But it's, it's like, has a consciousness that will possess your form and give you energy powers.
- 1:10:29[UNKNOWN]: So it's passed around a little bit in the comics and then it shows up in this issue.
- 1:10:32[UNKNOWN]: The prism used by Dr.
- 1:10:33[UNKNOWN]: Spectrum, which is sentient.
- 1:10:35[UNKNOWN]: And, and this prism, fully just like, okay, Dr.
- 1:10:38[UNKNOWN]: Spectrum is here now in the body.
- 1:10:40[UNKNOWN]: And there are so many comments throughout this issue of them saying, Jan is not in control.
- 1:10:45[UNKNOWN]: This has nothing to do with Jan.
- 1:10:46[UNKNOWN]: I have taken over this body.
- 1:10:47[UNKNOWN]: So basically for the rest of this issue, Jan goes dorm.
- 1:10:50[UNKNOWN]: She's not there.
- 1:10:51[UNKNOWN]: we have this escapade of Dr.
- 1:10:53[UNKNOWN]: Spectrum really wants to get revenge on Thor, but there are certain things he has to do.
- 1:10:58[UNKNOWN]: Like Iron Man knows that UV light is his weakness, so we've got to get these other team members and put them away.
- 1:11:04[UNKNOWN]: We have to take down Iron Man.
- 1:11:05[UNKNOWN]: We have to hide all these people.
- 1:11:07[UNKNOWN]: We're going to pose as Jan and go places to like get in and then reveal yourself as Dr.
- 1:11:12[UNKNOWN]: Spectrum and just fighting all the heroes taking them down, causing destruction everywhere they go.
- 1:11:21[UNKNOWN]: And one of that, and that person is Dr.
- 1:11:23[UNKNOWN]: Strange, and Dr.
- 1:11:24[UNKNOWN]: Strange then directs them to folks who have been the host for Dr.
- 1:11:30[UNKNOWN]: Spectrum in the past.
- 1:11:31[UNKNOWN]: They kind of like go to these different people.
- 1:11:33[UNKNOWN]: So you have three different teams who go to three different people to sort of sort out like, what is the key?
- 1:11:37[UNKNOWN]: How do we solve this?
- 1:11:38[UNKNOWN]: What do we do?
- 1:11:39[UNKNOWN]: So when we get to the third guy, he's a Reverend and he's like, I broke the curse because of the Lord.
- 1:11:46[UNKNOWN]: The Lord saved me and we're going to go to her body and we are going to pray the doctor away and we are going to save our site.
- 1:11:55[UNKNOWN]: He's going to actually reclaim her.
- 1:11:58[UNKNOWN]: So at one point, they think they've sort of like gotten her out of it, but she has the gem like kind of like,
- 1:12:02[UNKNOWN]: infused into her hand the the prism.
- 1:12:04[UNKNOWN]: This guy is like I can basically like exercise the the crystal out of her and instead He like steals it for himself then now we all need to fight this person But then Thor throws himself in the mix and now Thor is actually the bad guy and then ironman fights him and then all of this is going back and back and back What do we do?
- 1:12:23[UNKNOWN]: It turns out you know Thor also in this story is like secretly a doctor and not Thor and like has a
- 1:12:29[UNKNOWN]: It has a cane, and when he knocks it down, he becomes Thor, so he has like split personalities.
- 1:12:33[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot going on, but it doesn't matter because within this fight, Dr.
- 1:12:37[UNKNOWN]: Spectrum is destroyed.
- 1:12:38[UNKNOWN]: Thor and Iron Man together take care of it, and now it's Jen's birthday party, and everyone's happy again.
- 1:12:43[UNKNOWN]: And we end the issue with the birthday party.
- 1:12:45[UNKNOWN]: Evil Jen once again.
- 1:12:46[UNKNOWN]: She's back.
- 1:12:48[UNKNOWN]: She's back.
- 1:12:48[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:12:49[UNKNOWN]: Now you might be asking, but what did Hank get you for your birthday?
- 1:12:53[UNKNOWN]: And you'll find out at the end of the next two issues.
- 1:12:56[UNKNOWN]: So don't worry.
- 1:12:57[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:12:59[UNKNOWN]: Yes, okay.
- 1:13:00[UNKNOWN]: Yes, so we didn't in in in in in this Avengers annual we are going to learn nothing about the birthday present, but in the Marvel team up issues don't worry.
- 1:13:09[UNKNOWN]: It's coming.
- 1:13:10[UNKNOWN]: So so we start Marvel team up with Jan being pretty sad that as usual Hank is working all the time and she is at home and she is waiting and she is wearing her like beautiful little sexy night gown with her robe over it
- 1:13:24[UNKNOWN]: just waiting for him to come in the door so that she can like take off her robe and be like okay i'm here to distract you for get about your work he's like kissing her and then there's this ball of fire in the background that he sees out the window and he's like wait there's a ball of fire and she's like no no no kiss me and he literally says whatever Jan wants mmm and kiss us her okay
- 1:13:45[UNKNOWN]: But eventually, he cannot ignore this burst of fire in the sky because what is it in fact, but Spider-Man falling from the sky?
- 1:13:52[UNKNOWN]: So something is happening.
- 1:13:53[UNKNOWN]: So Hank goes out to save, to save Spider-Man and Jan says, I'm coming with you.
- 1:13:58[UNKNOWN]: And he says, no, you can't come because your night count is made of stable particles.
- 1:14:03[UNKNOWN]: And we can't be exciting the neighbors with your naked body, basically.
- 1:14:07[UNKNOWN]: So stay home, girl.
- 1:14:08[UNKNOWN]: Regardless, he goes, he grabs Spider-Man, he brings them back.
- 1:14:11[UNKNOWN]: They're nursing Spider-Man back to health, trying to kind of like get the T of what is going on.
- 1:14:16[UNKNOWN]: He's waking up, they're trying to figure it out.
- 1:14:18[UNKNOWN]: There's this foe who is made of half fire, half ice.
- 1:14:21[UNKNOWN]: Spider-Man remembers fighting him at one time.
- 1:14:23[UNKNOWN]: He is called Equinox.
- 1:14:24[UNKNOWN]: Equinox is the villain of this story.
- 1:14:26[UNKNOWN]: So basically Hank L offers to help Spidey.
- 1:14:29[UNKNOWN]: And Spidey's like, I don't need your help, but in that moment exactly, Equinox shows up.
- 1:14:34[UNKNOWN]: And now all three of them are involved in this fight.
- 1:14:38[UNKNOWN]: Jan is shrunk in down and she's trying to hit equinox and he tells her that her powers are useless against him.
- 1:14:46[UNKNOWN]: He's a Jan your your things are useless against me Was she literally says my powers are useless against most people, but that doesn't mean I should quit and I'm like, okay, well, girl get it.
- 1:14:57[UNKNOWN]: You know keep working.
- 1:14:58[UNKNOWN]: She's gonna do it anyway
- 1:15:00[UNKNOWN]: As Equinox ends up escaping, Jan and Hank are both chasing him and then there's just lady in the street who recognizes him who will soon find out is Equinox's mother and knows about his origin of how he got.
- 1:15:11[UNKNOWN]: It gets there, okay?
- 1:15:12[UNKNOWN]: So Jan is still small.
- 1:15:14[UNKNOWN]: Equinox swats her away.
- 1:15:16[UNKNOWN]: She gets knocked out, then Hank is fighting, okay?
- 1:15:19[UNKNOWN]: Jan has a moment where she says to Hank, what the heck man, when you made our power or why I did you make yourself so strong and me so
- 1:15:29[UNKNOWN]: And he just kind of brushes that off.
- 1:15:30[UNKNOWN]: He doesn't have anything to say about it.
- 1:15:32[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:15:33[UNKNOWN]: So we've still got equinox.
- 1:15:34[UNKNOWN]: We've got that situation going on.
- 1:15:36[UNKNOWN]: Hank is fighting him.
- 1:15:37[UNKNOWN]: Jan is like taking a beat for a second.
- 1:15:39[UNKNOWN]: And equinox explodes a, so Hank is fighting in front of like a fuel truck and equinox ends up exploding that fuel truck.
- 1:15:48[UNKNOWN]: We think we end the issue thinking that Hank is dead.
- 1:15:51[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:15:52[UNKNOWN]: And we go right into the next issue.
- 1:15:54[UNKNOWN]: Okay, Hank, Hank is that the panel is is tearing.
- 1:15:58[UNKNOWN]: Okay, Janet this moment is infuriated.
- 1:16:01[UNKNOWN]: Other people are offering to take down equinox.
- 1:16:03[UNKNOWN]: She says, Hello, no, this is my fight.
- 1:16:05[UNKNOWN]: You killed my husband.
- 1:16:07[UNKNOWN]: I'm going after him.
- 1:16:08[UNKNOWN]: She is vicious.
- 1:16:09[UNKNOWN]: She is on, she's ready for revenge.
- 1:16:11[UNKNOWN]: She's going meanwhile.
- 1:16:13[UNKNOWN]: Equinox is mom is trying to reason with her and and say like,
- 1:16:17[UNKNOWN]: You know, he's he's not well.
- 1:16:19[UNKNOWN]: He's he's he's got problems going on.
- 1:16:21[UNKNOWN]: He doesn't mean to be bad.
- 1:16:22[UNKNOWN]: His powers are consuming him.
- 1:16:24[UNKNOWN]: Jans like I don't give a shit what you're saying.
- 1:16:26[UNKNOWN]: Your son killed my husband.
- 1:16:27[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to kill your son.
- 1:16:29[UNKNOWN]: That's it.
- 1:16:30[UNKNOWN]: She gives.
- 1:16:30[UNKNOWN]: She's so enraged.
- 1:16:31[UNKNOWN]: She gives Spider-Man some sauce about like you can't possibly know what it's like to lose some months by their hand man has a little internal bubble where he's like,
- 1:16:38[UNKNOWN]: what about Gwen Stacy it's fine okay so this fight is going on they go to how can they take him down there's there's a a weapon they need to rebuild okay so they're gonna go use the fantastic force lab and they she has Avengers clearance now she uses her clearance and she lies saying that it is a world ending emergency because to her the world has ended because Hank is dead okay
- 1:17:02[UNKNOWN]: So Equinox breaks in to the lab as well, and they're going to try to find shelter, bitey, and the mom get into the lab lock in, they're doing their business, they're working things out.
- 1:17:13[UNKNOWN]: She has to go through a vent, it's a whole thing.
- 1:17:15[UNKNOWN]: Okay, she's trying to get her powers.
- 1:17:16[UNKNOWN]: Now throughout this issue, she's realizing that she's getting stronger and stronger and stronger.
- 1:17:20[UNKNOWN]: Her powers are amplifying.
- 1:17:22[UNKNOWN]: She's able to fight Equinox in a way that she couldn't before, and she's wondering, why is that what's going on, okay?
- 1:17:28[UNKNOWN]: Cut to Hank appears, just kidding, I'm not dead.
- 1:17:32[UNKNOWN]: shrink down small enough during the blast to save myself.
- 1:17:35[UNKNOWN]: So the two of them are fighting together.
- 1:17:37[UNKNOWN]: They take down equinox And that's when Hank reveals.
- 1:17:40[UNKNOWN]: So you like your your stronger powers and she's like, what are you talking about?
- 1:17:44[UNKNOWN]: Happy birthday sweetie.
- 1:17:45[UNKNOWN]: I slipped you a drink that would have given you basically
- 1:17:49[UNKNOWN]: when you turn small, it would have amplified your powers into more strength.
- 1:17:54[UNKNOWN]: But instead of the adrenaline from turning small doing that, the adrenaline of my death did that for you.
- 1:17:59[UNKNOWN]: And so now you're stronger, happy birthday, and like the end of the situation is literally just like, happy birthday babe, and that's it.
- 1:18:07[UNKNOWN]: People are literally so mad right now.
- 1:18:10[UNKNOWN]: Let's keep writing with this energy.
- 1:18:12[UNKNOWN]: We'll go to jettily next.
- 1:18:14[UNKNOWN]: We're talking about comics from Avengers Classic number six, the backup story.
- 1:18:19[UNKNOWN]: We're going to be Avengers 2111 through 2121.
- 1:18:22[UNKNOWN]: And then finally, Avengers 390, 393 and 394, which yes, that's the crossing.
- 1:18:25[UNKNOWN]: Jettily, I'm assuming this was all new material.
- 1:18:36[UNKNOWN]: I'm like too angry from Alicia's to like do mine now.
- 1:18:42[UNKNOWN]: I also for each of my issues, I did outfits an outfit count.
- 1:18:48[UNKNOWN]: So the first one is Avengers classic number six story number two.
- 1:18:52[UNKNOWN]: So the art style is unique.
- 1:18:54[UNKNOWN]: It's all watercolor.
- 1:18:55[UNKNOWN]: So moments are really nice like the first initial page.
- 1:18:58[UNKNOWN]: But there's some moments where I wish it was like a developed a little bit more.
- 1:19:01[UNKNOWN]: We start with Jan driving outside the city to scream into the void.
- 1:19:06[UNKNOWN]: modern a modern woman.
- 1:19:07[UNKNOWN]: She feels like a second-rate character from how her male teammates are treating her.
- 1:19:12[UNKNOWN]: It's really getting her like psyche down and she's making like she's second guessing who she is now.
- 1:19:17[UNKNOWN]: She gives out of her car like physically and it's like on the cliffside screaming when another car comes by.
- 1:19:24[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, why are they driving so fast?
- 1:19:26[UNKNOWN]: I'm on a turn.
- 1:19:27[UNKNOWN]: I'm on a sharp turn.
- 1:19:28[UNKNOWN]: This was done with me.
- 1:19:30[UNKNOWN]: What's going on?
- 1:19:30[UNKNOWN]: It looks
- 1:19:31[UNKNOWN]: So she gets to the other car because they like stop they like run into her cute little sports car.
- 1:19:35[UNKNOWN]: And it looks like they just robbed a bank.
- 1:19:38[UNKNOWN]: There's like bags of money.
- 1:19:40[UNKNOWN]: And there's someone in the back seat that was shot.
- 1:19:42[UNKNOWN]: And she's like checking them out.
- 1:19:43[UNKNOWN]: And then all of a sudden, a gun comes up behind her and she's being held hostage.
- 1:19:47[UNKNOWN]: She's like, well, shit, like today just got worse.
- 1:19:49[UNKNOWN]: Jan helps this lady transfer the shot victim to Jan's cute sports car.
- 1:19:54[UNKNOWN]: You can't get blood out of leather folks and she starts driving them back towards the city.
- 1:19:59[UNKNOWN]: The hostage in the front seat with her, her name is Lorna was Lorna common name.
- 1:20:04[UNKNOWN]: I don't think so.
- 1:20:05[UNKNOWN]: Is it weird that her name is Lorna?
- 1:20:06[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
- 1:20:07[UNKNOWN]: Jan decides to pop a shrinking caps book.
- 1:20:10[UNKNOWN]: capsule while she's driving at top speed.
- 1:20:14[UNKNOWN]: She's like, oh, this Lorna chick will take over the car.
- 1:20:16[UNKNOWN]: She doesn't know that.
- 1:20:17[UNKNOWN]: She doesn't know her story.
- 1:20:18[UNKNOWN]: And so she jumps into this dying man like into his like mouth.
- 1:20:22[UNKNOWN]: And like it's caught her rising his internal bleeding.
- 1:20:25[UNKNOWN]: She
- 1:20:26[UNKNOWN]: Jan comes out of this guy and the car is stopped and I don't know how she didn't get like ricochet around his body as they were like whole teen speed but like I kind of thought about that that was not portrayed because I'd be gross and all of a sudden it gets really sad because the cops are holding up this lorna lady the cops say put your gun down on the lorna's like whoa
- 1:20:45[UNKNOWN]: No, you can't take me alive and they shoot her.
- 1:20:47[UNKNOWN]: That's very sad.
- 1:20:48[UNKNOWN]: But, James, like, having, like, an existential crisis, but she also sort of, like, a little psycho behavior.
- 1:20:54[UNKNOWN]: She shrinks up real small and gets into the trunk and pretends to be captured when, so the cops will find her.
- 1:21:00[UNKNOWN]: She'll see, goes back home and she's being consulted by her.
- 1:21:03[UNKNOWN]: She's like, oh, like, today was so hard.
- 1:21:06[UNKNOWN]: I read this issue three out of five.
- 1:21:07[UNKNOWN]: The outfits in this issue are one.
- 1:21:09[UNKNOWN]: The outfit is a two out of five.
- 1:21:12[UNKNOWN]: That's stories.
- 1:21:14[UNKNOWN]: So this is the Avengers 2011 to 2014.
- 1:21:17[UNKNOWN]: This is Lubricah.
- 1:21:18[UNKNOWN]: Y'all this, this, this.
- 1:21:20[UNKNOWN]: It's good comics.
- 1:21:21[UNKNOWN]: It's good though.
- 1:21:23[UNKNOWN]: Buckle and buckle and okay, so this is the preamble a little bit.
- 1:21:27[UNKNOWN]: Cap is the leader of the Avengers.
- 1:21:29[UNKNOWN]: And the roster starts to have a little shake up.
- 1:21:31[UNKNOWN]: The team, the starting team right now is Cap Thor, Iron Man, Beast, Boo, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Wonderman, and Jakasta who was Wasp 2.0.
- 1:21:40[UNKNOWN]: All the sudden heroes start showing up at the mansion for no reason.
- 1:21:43[UNKNOWN]: It's Moon Knight, Tygra, Iceman, Black Panther, Desert, Yay!
- 1:21:47[UNKNOWN]: Y'all jacket, Boo!
- 1:21:48[UNKNOWN]: Black Widow, Angel, Hawkeye, and Hercules, and they're being possessed to fight one another.
- 1:21:53[UNKNOWN]: No one really knows what's going on, but they're like, having beefs and we're like, what's going on?
- 1:21:57[UNKNOWN]: And that's the screenshot I sent you all of, the Moon Dragon, saying your menstrual desire is deep.
- 1:22:05[UNKNOWN]: Maybe it left so hard.
- 1:22:06[UNKNOWN]: All of a sudden we find out like coming in from above a very country moon dragon is involved.
- 1:22:13[UNKNOWN]: She's having everyone fight each other.
- 1:22:15[UNKNOWN]: She's like I was an Avenger.
- 1:22:16[UNKNOWN]: I am still on this roster.
- 1:22:18[UNKNOWN]: She's like everyone needs to find out who deserves to be here because Cap was like we have too many people.
- 1:22:23[UNKNOWN]: We need to cut it down, everyone's like, what do you mean?
- 1:22:25[UNKNOWN]: And then after all this fighting, everyone's like, this is a lot, I don't like this.
- 1:22:29[UNKNOWN]: So Beast decides to go and become dark beast.
- 1:22:32[UNKNOWN]: And other people leave as well.
- 1:22:33[UNKNOWN]: I don't think that's not only his purpose, but he's like science, I'm like, well, we know where that leads.
- 1:22:37[UNKNOWN]: Shout out, Ben Percy.
- 1:22:38[UNKNOWN]: And then we're left with a new team, which is kept for Iron Man, Wasp, Yellow Jacket, Ew, and Tygro, which I really like Tygro.
- 1:22:46[UNKNOWN]: This is her intro to the Avengers.
- 1:22:50[UNKNOWN]: And everyone's like, who is she?
- 1:22:51[UNKNOWN]: She's like, I'm a cat lady.
- 1:22:53[UNKNOWN]: And then, two, 12 is kind of her telling Jarvis, who she is.
- 1:22:57[UNKNOWN]: He's like, how did you get this way?
- 1:22:58[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, oh, like, people say my life.
- 1:23:00[UNKNOWN]: And turn me into a cat lady.
- 1:23:02[UNKNOWN]: He's like, no, like, where did your manners come from?
- 1:23:04[UNKNOWN]: And I was like, ooh, clocked.
- 1:23:06[UNKNOWN]: Anyway.
- 1:23:06[UNKNOWN]: All right, the next issue, 212.
- 1:23:09[UNKNOWN]: So Hank is now on the Avengers.
- 1:23:12[UNKNOWN]: And he's stressed to the max more than he already normally is.
- 1:23:16[UNKNOWN]: So him and Jan live together in New Jersey.
- 1:23:19[UNKNOWN]: I think it's funny.
- 1:23:20[UNKNOWN]: And so to start off the issue, they're very stressed about going to work.
- 1:23:23[UNKNOWN]: Jan's like, oh, let's lounge around.
- 1:23:25[UNKNOWN]: Hank's like, no.
- 1:23:26[UNKNOWN]: So he and she's like, which one should I pick out?
- 1:23:28[UNKNOWN]: And he's like, you have me decide.
- 1:23:29[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, well, I had a lot of options.
- 1:23:31[UNKNOWN]: And I just showed you two, because I did a lot of the work.
- 1:23:34[UNKNOWN]: He insinuates one of them.
- 1:23:36[UNKNOWN]: So dumb, so she puts on the other one to really get out fit.
- 1:23:39[UNKNOWN]: My stuff that you used to do is shit like this to my mom.
- 1:23:41[UNKNOWN]: I mean, not like Blaster clothes, but like similar behavior.
- 1:23:44[UNKNOWN]: And like this, this sends me like the, the batterer part of this.
- 1:23:47[UNKNOWN]: And like, I mean, I was screaming the whole time and not in a good way.
- 1:23:51[UNKNOWN]: So they get to the Avengers made in it and then they're like, everyone's talking and Hank's being awful like normal and Jan is having this internal dialogue where she's realizing that there's something wrong with Hank and he's trying to prove himself is too eager about it.
- 1:24:06[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, what's going on?
- 1:24:07[UNKNOWN]: So the Avengers are called to DC to look into this ancient sorceress and warrior goren.
- 1:24:14[UNKNOWN]: So essentially what
- 1:24:15[UNKNOWN]: Demanda, you were going to love her.
- 1:24:17[UNKNOWN]: She is the source arrest from the British Isles, and they're 10,000 years old.
- 1:24:23[UNKNOWN]: And so she's using her powers to keep both her and Gorn, bad name, but we'll get over that.
- 1:24:30[UNKNOWN]: Her and Gorn young forever.
- 1:24:31[UNKNOWN]: So this is the name of the elf.
- 1:24:34[UNKNOWN]: and they now reside in kind of a pocket dimension essentially in Virginia, where they are young forever and they live in like an old timey like modern to them time.
- 1:24:45[UNKNOWN]: So they're like deciding to go out and like going like, I need to prove myself.
- 1:24:49[UNKNOWN]: I'm a man.
- 1:24:50[UNKNOWN]: And so they decide to go to Washington DC.
- 1:24:52[UNKNOWN]: And they're very confused by everything, they're like, why are these buggys pulling themselves?
- 1:24:57[UNKNOWN]: And people can't understand them, which I think is really funny, because they're like, well, what are they speaking?
- 1:25:03[UNKNOWN]: And what are they speaking?
- 1:25:04[UNKNOWN]: It's like old English.
- 1:25:05[UNKNOWN]: Flash back to the mansion, not in DC.
- 1:25:08[UNKNOWN]: I actually don't know where the adventure's mansion is.
- 1:25:10[UNKNOWN]: Is it in New York?
- 1:25:11[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, like down to the side.
- 1:25:13[UNKNOWN]: down town.
- 1:25:14[UNKNOWN]: It looks like it's like an old house.
- 1:25:16[UNKNOWN]: Because it's got an Fifth Avenue address.
- 1:25:17[UNKNOWN]: That's so silly.
- 1:25:18[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 1:25:19[UNKNOWN]: Anyway, they got a, they're going to jet over to DC and Hank realizes that his disruptors are on the first.
- 1:25:24[UNKNOWN]: He's like, oh, shoot.
- 1:25:25[UNKNOWN]: I need to get him.
- 1:25:25[UNKNOWN]: And Jen's like, oh, we can have our bill.
- 1:25:28[UNKNOWN]: There's just limo them over and we'll beat.
- 1:25:30[UNKNOWN]: They'll be here no time.
- 1:25:31[UNKNOWN]: He's like, Jan, I'm tired of you floating your money.
- 1:25:33[UNKNOWN]: I don't need you, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:25:35[UNKNOWN]: And so she's like, I'm just trying to help you.
- 1:25:36[UNKNOWN]: And he's like, we don't need you.
- 1:25:38[UNKNOWN]: She like runs away crying fair.
- 1:25:40[UNKNOWN]: and he's like, let's go without her and everyone's like, just says, okay, which I think is bad.
- 1:25:45[UNKNOWN]: So they all go down to DC.
- 1:25:47[UNKNOWN]: The fight happens.
- 1:25:48[UNKNOWN]: Go on.
- 1:25:49[UNKNOWN]: Oh, Goran gets killed.
- 1:25:50[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so that's why Leon is really upset because Goran died.
- 1:25:56[UNKNOWN]: And so she is so mad and she's like trying to like just,
- 1:25:59[UNKNOWN]: kill everyone, which honestly, women's wrongs were here to support, just like Allison had said earlier, in the text, not in some weeks.
- 1:26:06[UNKNOWN]: The fight's happening, a little block, capped us some cool summer salt stuff, which is really nice, and he gets closely in and he's like, hey, like, we heard help you, she's like, I can't understand you strange, speaking man, and that thought was really good.
- 1:26:18[UNKNOWN]: All of a sudden, there's like a ring of fire around them.
- 1:26:19[UNKNOWN]: And then Hank is behind them.
- 1:26:22[UNKNOWN]: Cap sees him, but he's like, oh, I'm talking her down.
- 1:26:25[UNKNOWN]: He knows that I'm de-escalating.
- 1:26:27[UNKNOWN]: No, he does not, because Hank like hits his disruptor to get it to work and then she'll turn the back.
- 1:26:32[UNKNOWN]: And she's so powerful and she doesn't even bother her.
- 1:26:35[UNKNOWN]: But then she gets mad and then she tries to kill him.
- 1:26:38[UNKNOWN]: But she throws it like semi-truck at him.
- 1:26:41[UNKNOWN]: I'm like, hell yeah, get him.
- 1:26:43[UNKNOWN]: And then he's about to be crushed, but then Jan comes in and save him.
- 1:26:47[UNKNOWN]: I'm sad, Hank's pissed, and he's so pissed that he's like, like, laying out like walks on air and disappears until nothingness, very like, yes.
- 1:26:57[UNKNOWN]: And he's like, has his back to the team.
- 1:26:59[UNKNOWN]: He's like shaking angry.
- 1:27:01[UNKNOWN]: It's like kind of like that Arthur gift, but like his whole body, yes.
- 1:27:05[UNKNOWN]: So that's how that issue ends.
- 1:27:06[UNKNOWN]: Okay, so 13, this one's the dosy.
- 1:27:10[UNKNOWN]: 13, two, 13 is the court martial issue.
- 1:27:13[UNKNOWN]: Everyone buckle in, drink your drinks.
- 1:27:15[UNKNOWN]: Let's go.
- 1:27:15[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, I mean, Hank, this is the equivalent of like a suspect surrendered and then the cops still tried to use lethal force afterward like that's what their court marshalling him for yes, yes, so Hank isn't a room with cap Thor and Ironman and they're just like you messed up and we have to have this trial against you and he's like, yeah, I guess so
- 1:27:37[UNKNOWN]: They all like go their separate ways, but then cap Thor and Iron Man all like, well, having we have close calls in the past and like cap is like reliving like his army days.
- 1:27:47[UNKNOWN]: And Iron Man is like watching old footage when like Hank wasn't yellow jacket when he was the aunt man Thor is his alternate personality, Donald Blake.
- 1:27:57[UNKNOWN]: That's what you're talking about earlier relationship with the king.
- 1:27:59[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:28:00[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:28:00[UNKNOWN]: Yes,
- 1:28:02[UNKNOWN]: So they're like having feelings, which it's nice to see men having feelings in comics, you know?
- 1:28:08[UNKNOWN]: Like that's nice.
- 1:28:09[UNKNOWN]: Jan and Tigra are like outside the room, like very nervous.
- 1:28:13[UNKNOWN]: Jan's like, I don't know what to do.
- 1:28:14[UNKNOWN]: And Tigra was like, girl, what's going on?
- 1:28:16[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, oh, I don't know what's going to happen.
- 1:28:18[UNKNOWN]: And Tigra's like, why does she like him?
- 1:28:20[UNKNOWN]: I'm like,
- 1:28:21[UNKNOWN]: Yes, Ty Brown, why does she like them?
- 1:28:23[UNKNOWN]: It's just, I don't buy Ty Brown dating hank later.
- 1:28:27[UNKNOWN]: Like that, I don't get that.
- 1:28:28[UNKNOWN]: We don't talk about that now, but I don't get it after what she's saying.
- 1:28:31[UNKNOWN]: She calls him a creep.
- 1:28:32[UNKNOWN]: She calls him gross and I'm like, yes, yes, yes.
- 1:28:35[UNKNOWN]: So, this is so funny.
- 1:28:37[UNKNOWN]: So right after that happens, they're like trying to go home and it's like raining outside and Jim's signing autographs for fans and she's having hank wait.
- 1:28:46[UNKNOWN]: the ring.
- 1:28:47[UNKNOWN]: Well, I actually do this.
- 1:28:49[UNKNOWN]: I love it so much and they're she's like, oh well, they want your autograph too.
- 1:28:52[UNKNOWN]: Hank, they're like, no, we don't want that guys autograph.
- 1:28:54[UNKNOWN]: So they get home.
- 1:28:55[UNKNOWN]: Hank is like set off by then having like a staff.
- 1:28:58[UNKNOWN]: So Jans like, hey, like Butler and like me, it's like, go home.
- 1:29:01[UNKNOWN]: You gotta yada.
- 1:29:02[UNKNOWN]: Have yourself a time.
- 1:29:04[UNKNOWN]: And then Jans like, hey, let's get freaky.
- 1:29:07[UNKNOWN]: Oh, make us feel better.
- 1:29:08[UNKNOWN]: And he's like,
- 1:29:09[UNKNOWN]: No, I don't want to, and I'm like, okay, well, this is another red flag.
- 1:29:12[UNKNOWN]: So he instead, he locks himself in the lab for three days.
- 1:29:17[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, three days.
- 1:29:18[UNKNOWN]: Jan is worried about him.
- 1:29:21[UNKNOWN]: Should she be?
- 1:29:22[UNKNOWN]: No, but she is.
- 1:29:23[UNKNOWN]: And so she has this cute little net negligee on.
- 1:29:26[UNKNOWN]: It's like this will like, freely, little outfits, so cute.
- 1:29:29[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, I'm going to go pop in and see.
- 1:29:31[UNKNOWN]: And so she goes into the door, the door's locked.
- 1:29:34[UNKNOWN]: The door's like iron, which is silly.
- 1:29:39[UNKNOWN]: a door and she's in there and she's making another robot.
- 1:29:43[UNKNOWN]: This is post-ultron and he's making another robot.
- 1:29:46[UNKNOWN]: His name is Sal for Salvation.
- 1:29:48[UNKNOWN]: It's so bad.
- 1:29:49[UNKNOWN]: He looks rough.
- 1:29:50[UNKNOWN]: He's got like scruff and you can tell he's unwell.
- 1:29:53[UNKNOWN]: He's having a panic episode and he's building a robot that will attack the Avengers and only he can save the day because only he knows where the off-switch is but Jan sees where the off-switch is when she goes in the lab.
- 1:30:04[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, please don't do this.
- 1:30:05[UNKNOWN]: Please don't do this.
- 1:30:06[UNKNOWN]: He says shut up and then hits her across the face.
- 1:30:10[UNKNOWN]: He's front facing her and hits her across the face.
- 1:30:13[UNKNOWN]: She like goes flying, like absolutely not.
- 1:30:16[UNKNOWN]: And it's just like absurd.
- 1:30:18[UNKNOWN]: Like she's so worried about him and he just like reacts this way.
- 1:30:21[UNKNOWN]: So the next page is them going to the court martial.
- 1:30:24[UNKNOWN]: She has this cute outfit on and she's got sunglasses on inside.
- 1:30:28[UNKNOWN]: And the leaders are going through how color trials gonna work and how Jan is not allowed to vote since they're married.
- 1:30:34[UNKNOWN]: I'm like, hmm, so they kind of ask Hank what happened with the sorceress and Hank makes up this fake story.
- 1:30:43[UNKNOWN]: He's like, accusing Kapp of being on the side of the sorceress because he wants to sleep with her.
- 1:30:48[UNKNOWN]: And everyone is like, this story's so pathetic, we are so embarrassed for you.
- 1:30:53[UNKNOWN]: So Hank, like, turns a Janice, like Jan, tell him, tell him, and she takes off her glasses.
- 1:30:59[UNKNOWN]: Everyone gasped, Thor said, what the fuck?
- 1:31:01[UNKNOWN]: Did he hit this woman?
- 1:31:03[UNKNOWN]: But in Thor voice, not what I just said.
- 1:31:07[UNKNOWN]: And Hank's like I'm gonna call the robot now and so we call the robot But then he keeps getting beaten up by the robot.
- 1:31:14[UNKNOWN]: He can't do it.
- 1:31:15[UNKNOWN]: He can't turn the robot off So Jan and her beaten up face turns off the robot and so she saves the day and he walks out on his own and for the first time Jan says I have no more tears left like
- 1:31:29[UNKNOWN]: Leave him!
- 1:31:30[UNKNOWN]: You're the area on a grand day.
- 1:31:32[UNKNOWN]: No tears left to cry.
- 1:31:33[UNKNOWN]: That's right.
- 1:31:34[UNKNOWN]: In the subsequent issues, he ends up getting manipulated by one of my favorite Marvel villains.
- 1:31:38[UNKNOWN]: Egghead, I love Egghead into joining the Masters of Evil.
- 1:31:41[UNKNOWN]: And he ends up going to prison as a result of this whole story.
- 1:31:44[UNKNOWN]: And Jan again is the one to defeat him.
- 1:31:46[UNKNOWN]: That's a reoccurring theme for the next issue of 2014.
- 1:31:50[UNKNOWN]: Jan is at home doing fashion sketches and Hank comes to see her.
- 1:31:54[UNKNOWN]: She's not having any of it and he's like, oh, it was so hard.
- 1:31:57[UNKNOWN]: She's like, that's where he came to tell me.
- 1:31:59[UNKNOWN]: He's like, oh, I just want to be with you and she's like, no, I want to divorce.
- 1:32:02[UNKNOWN]: And then he was like, what?
- 1:32:04[UNKNOWN]: And she's like, you and have whatever money you want.
- 1:32:05[UNKNOWN]: He's like, I don't want any of your money.
- 1:32:07[UNKNOWN]: I still have patents and stuff.
- 1:32:09[UNKNOWN]: No, he doesn't.
- 1:32:09[UNKNOWN]: He lied.
- 1:32:10[UNKNOWN]: They have run out of money.
- 1:32:11[UNKNOWN]: And he'd rather be poor than be like have her to support him.
- 1:32:14[UNKNOWN]: On the other side of this issue, can't he set an in-worn or fighting with Ghost Rider in the Wild West and Tiger has a Western shopping spray that I am obsessed with.
- 1:32:22[UNKNOWN]: And they be Johnny Blaze, Yada Yada.
- 1:32:25[UNKNOWN]: She's dating now at first one is Tony Stark and then the Paladin.
- 1:32:29[UNKNOWN]: 224 Janus a leader of the Avengers and all of our favorite Jade giant test is on the the press they like defeat so and so not important.
- 1:32:38[UNKNOWN]: The press asked Jan about her dating life and how she feels about Hank and Jayl and she says no comment to what Chad was saying about him being put under by egghead.
- 1:32:46[UNKNOWN]: So Scott Lang, we go to his house, see him like sad, he shrinks and tries to go bust Hank out of prison.
- 1:32:52[UNKNOWN]: But Hank says no so he can win Jan back.
- 1:32:55[UNKNOWN]: I wish I could say that these chances are low.
- 1:32:58[UNKNOWN]: So the next thing we see is Jan at this gal event.
- 1:33:00[UNKNOWN]: We're building a billionaire playboy Tony Stark starts to pursue her.
- 1:33:04[UNKNOWN]: They're flirty, very fun.
- 1:33:07[UNKNOWN]: I really liked their dynamic.
- 1:33:08[UNKNOWN]: But we come to find out that he told the whole Avengers team that he was Iron Man, but it was wild James on a break.
- 1:33:14[UNKNOWN]: Another red flag man has come into her life.
- 1:33:18[UNKNOWN]: At least he was her and takes her on vacation.
- 1:33:21[UNKNOWN]: have sticks his star, spangled boots in the middle of their business and tells Tony that he's a tail Jan.
- 1:33:27[UNKNOWN]: This time, snitches, don't get stitches.
- 1:33:29[UNKNOWN]: The issue ends with Tony telling Jan and she says, not one of Hank's friends.
- 1:33:34[UNKNOWN]: Two, 51.
- 1:33:36[UNKNOWN]: That's hot though.
- 1:33:37[UNKNOWN]: I'm sorry to interrupt you, but like that's hot.
- 1:33:39[UNKNOWN]: Her being like, not one of not one of his friends.
- 1:33:41[UNKNOWN]: I was so proud.
- 1:33:42[UNKNOWN]: To 51, Jan is on vacation.
- 1:33:44[UNKNOWN]: It's very rich vacation and this is a very extravagant resort and runs
- 1:33:51[UNKNOWN]: Hinky Weissman.
- 1:33:52[UNKNOWN]: Thank you Weissman.
- 1:33:54[UNKNOWN]: Who is she?
- 1:33:55[UNKNOWN]: I love her.
- 1:33:55[UNKNOWN]: Speaking of placement is getting she's definitely friends with Terry Sue Bottoms for those that know the reference.
- 1:34:00[UNKNOWN]: What a New York rich woman name.
- 1:34:04[UNKNOWN]: Good for her.
- 1:34:05[UNKNOWN]: And she runs into Tinky who's dating this very rich barren.
- 1:34:09[UNKNOWN]: He's got like big red hair.
- 1:34:11[UNKNOWN]: He's got a yacht.
- 1:34:12[UNKNOWN]: He makes sure that everyone knows he's got a yacht.
- 1:34:14[UNKNOWN]: You're invited to his yacht.
- 1:34:16[UNKNOWN]: And then she turns around and runs into a very charming Paul Denny.
- 1:34:20[UNKNOWN]: He charms her with dinner.
- 1:34:22[UNKNOWN]: We have a montage scene, we love a montage.
- 1:34:24[UNKNOWN]: He charms her with dinner snorkeling and they strut along the beach.
- 1:34:28[UNKNOWN]: outfits galore in this issue.
- 1:34:30[UNKNOWN]: Jan finds out that Paul has a gun and is going after Tinkie's rich boyfriend.
- 1:34:35[UNKNOWN]: So she flies the yacht to save this barren and she finds out that he's a magical bank robber.
- 1:34:42[UNKNOWN]: What?
- 1:34:43[UNKNOWN]: So she jumps into his cloak and he gets teleported to this bank.
- 1:34:47[UNKNOWN]: Seas has happened, like him trying to rob this bank.
- 1:34:51[UNKNOWN]: This is a villain from the old machine man series in the 1970s.
- 1:34:55[UNKNOWN]: His name is Baron Brindstone.
- 1:34:57[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's so she like, he's like trying to crack open the safe with his magic.
- 1:35:02[UNKNOWN]: And all of a sudden, it's like a man and like padded out.
- 1:35:04[UNKNOWN]: He kinda looks like hockey pads.
- 1:35:05[UNKNOWN]: Like, old time hockey pads is rolling out of the safe and it's like,
- 1:35:09[UNKNOWN]: chew and it's the paladin, Paul denning.
- 1:35:12[UNKNOWN]: And so him and Jan team up and take down this rich yacht man.
- 1:35:16[UNKNOWN]: This was all just a meet cute for Jan and Paul.
- 1:35:19[UNKNOWN]: And so he takes her back to his rooms and they have a candle lit meal with a violinist and things are implied.
- 1:35:26[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
- 1:35:27[UNKNOWN]: Every few years, there's that giant story where they wanna blow the team apart.
- 1:35:30[UNKNOWN]: Think of like, fall of the mutants or the extinction agenda.
- 1:35:33[UNKNOWN]: The Avengers have Avengers disassembled.
- 1:35:36[UNKNOWN]: This is the crossing, which is a crazy 90s.
- 1:35:38[UNKNOWN]: There's lots of big, mussely, weird, crazy characters getting thrown all around.
- 1:35:42[UNKNOWN]: Everybody's getting fucked with.
- 1:35:44[UNKNOWN]: They're doing shit with mantis.
- 1:35:45[UNKNOWN]: They're doing shit with Matt a mask.
- 1:35:47[UNKNOWN]: Things are crazy.
- 1:35:48[UNKNOWN]: This is a nuts storyline that later gets woven into Avengers forever, which, again, as a series I love, where Emeritus has behind it all.
- 1:35:55[UNKNOWN]: but you don't really have an understanding.
- 1:35:57[UNKNOWN]: Except that Iron Man has gone evil and a bunch of people are dying and there's a group of weird time displaced people running around doing a lot of crazy shit.
- 1:36:06[UNKNOWN]: We can keep this focused on Janet's journey because the crossing would take two hours to explain.
- 1:36:11[UNKNOWN]: The crossing is the equivalent of the summer's family time like before the Avengers.
- 1:36:16[UNKNOWN]: Like, I didn't understand it and when I was reading it, I was like, what has happened in?
- 1:36:19[UNKNOWN]: That's interesting.
- 1:36:20[UNKNOWN]: When they were writing it, I guess.
- 1:36:22[UNKNOWN]: Essentially, the first, so there's three issues here.
- 1:36:24[UNKNOWN]: The first one, Jen and Hank are at her lawyers.
- 1:36:27[UNKNOWN]: She's not in this issue very much, but they're back at her lawyer's office and her lawier, who they haven't seen since Hank's divorce.
- 1:36:33[UNKNOWN]: Unfortunately, it tells her that the money and her father's account was no longer there.
- 1:36:36[UNKNOWN]: She seems to have like a mental break and offers to take the two mental lunch.
- 1:36:39[UNKNOWN]: On the other side of the story is time travel.
- 1:36:41[UNKNOWN]: We don't understand.
- 1:36:42[UNKNOWN]: The next issue, 93, is...
- 1:36:45[UNKNOWN]: Take a moment for the Celestial Madonna Mantists.
- 1:36:48[UNKNOWN]: If it is amazing, obsessed.
- 1:36:50[UNKNOWN]: Times travel stuff, whatever.
- 1:36:52[UNKNOWN]: Back on our Tony Stark is going crazy.
- 1:36:53[UNKNOWN]: At the mansion, the Jan gets shot by the Iron Man suit.
- 1:36:56[UNKNOWN]: Tony starts freaking out and realizes that he's a monster.
- 1:36:59[UNKNOWN]: I have no idea what's going on with him.
- 1:37:00[UNKNOWN]: It doesn't matter.
- 1:37:01[UNKNOWN]: Hank gets huge, smash the mansion and smash the Tony.
- 1:37:04[UNKNOWN]: But not in the fun way.
- 1:37:06[UNKNOWN]: And they start freaking out that he has to save Jan's life.
- 1:37:09[UNKNOWN]: He hooks her up to the machine, similar to one that gave her her powers.
- 1:37:12[UNKNOWN]: Something happens and she gets in a cocoon.
- 1:37:14[UNKNOWN]: The cocoon has a higher outfit rating than her previous outfits in this issue.
- 1:37:20[UNKNOWN]: last issue in this jump is the cover gives away too much of a story I think with this one.
- 1:37:26[UNKNOWN]: In the story the time travel and more time travel and then cocoon the cocoon is now a lovely lavender color which I like it starts rustling and got hurt in combat and then Hank like injected her with a thing that made her like go into a cocoon and then she like hatches as a new mutated creature afterward.
- 1:37:44[UNKNOWN]: She did not consent to this but he kind of saved your life too.
- 1:37:47[UNKNOWN]: And this is her outfit
- 1:37:50[UNKNOWN]: She's healthier than she was before and that's how this story ends.
- 1:37:54[UNKNOWN]: Is it okay?
- 1:37:54[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
- 1:37:55[UNKNOWN]: I don't this that was a lot That last three stories were a lot 90s got real weird everybody But go look up that wasp that monster wasp look.
- 1:38:03[UNKNOWN]: Let's keep going Rufan is gonna I give Rufan a smattering of stories I know you can handle it my friend, but we're moving from Avengers west coast annual six the backup story Tails to astonish volume three number one, which is a one shot
- 1:38:17[UNKNOWN]: Ant man's big Christmas number one, which is a one shot and this story is a lot that one in particular Avengers volume three 71 Avengers volume three 79 8384 and then finally all new Wolverine number five.
- 1:38:33[UNKNOWN]: Ruth had take their aides.
- 1:38:34[UNKNOWN]: I think I actually based on what everyone else has said really really one out on this one because this is a series of stories really where Jan is really coming into her own.
- 1:38:45[UNKNOWN]: Avengers West Coast annual number six.
- 1:38:47[UNKNOWN]: That's another one of those little eight page stories.
- 1:38:49[UNKNOWN]: The story is called a lost in Hollywood in which Jan Ernest is apple pie finds out that the only way to make sure the world hears your story is to tell it yourself.
- 1:38:58[UNKNOWN]: She takes her screenplay, which is about how the Avengers came to be to, you know, a Hollywood studio, a mammoth studio, less you think she's going small where she pitches it to.
- 1:39:10[UNKNOWN]: a guy who I can only assume is a knockoff of Dino de Laurentis who has this really terribly written Italian accent who then introduces her to a guy who's a knockoff obviously of Arnold Schwarzenegger who also has a terrible, terrible written problematic accent.
- 1:39:24[UNKNOWN]: Someone mentioned Egghead earlier the Egghead stories in here but the studio guy wants to change it so that he's got an egg beaters up up in.
- 1:39:32[UNKNOWN]: Basically at every juncture they want to change the story to make it more
- 1:39:40[UNKNOWN]: She walks out of the studio afterwards.
- 1:39:42[UNKNOWN]: They're going to call her.
- 1:39:43[UNKNOWN]: And the bottom actually says the beginning.
- 1:39:45[UNKNOWN]: Not the end.
- 1:39:46[UNKNOWN]: I don't know if anyone ever went anywhere with this story.
- 1:39:48[UNKNOWN]: Maybe this is where the MCU came from.
- 1:39:50[UNKNOWN]: This is a recurring character at Marvel, though.
- 1:39:52[UNKNOWN]: There's an actor named Arnold Schwarzberger, who did like some films with Simon Williams once.
- 1:39:58[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so the next story, the tales to us on this three number one, Hank and Jan have traveled to Norway.
- 1:40:03[UNKNOWN]: They're divorced now.
- 1:40:05[UNKNOWN]: And this is another one of those stories generally that's done in that watercolor sort of wash that's really, really confusing to look at.
- 1:40:12[UNKNOWN]: It's very disorienting in some ways.
- 1:40:15[UNKNOWN]: So they're in Norway.
- 1:40:16[UNKNOWN]: They've gone to Oslo.
- 1:40:16[UNKNOWN]: Hank is going to speak at a police convention and Jan is just there to enjoy also as a tourist.
- 1:40:21[UNKNOWN]: And then, of course, a terrible villain whose name is Kanu Kein, who worships Loki, really likes Loki, thinks he's the reincarnation of Loki, some combination of these things, he's on the loose.
- 1:40:32[UNKNOWN]: So, of course, leisure time does not last long.
- 1:40:34[UNKNOWN]: And thank goodness, because Hank shows up in Norway wearing this absolutely terrible absurd Norwegian sweater, which he has tucked into his brown core advanced.
- 1:40:42[UNKNOWN]: So, it's really good that they get him into his outfit sooner rather than later.
- 1:40:47[UNKNOWN]: bad guys bad.
- 1:40:48[UNKNOWN]: The good guys get into trouble.
- 1:40:49[UNKNOWN]: They think they can handle him.
- 1:40:50[UNKNOWN]: They can't handle him.
- 1:40:51[UNKNOWN]: Jen, because they're on a call for help and the whole show's up to save the day.
- 1:40:54[UNKNOWN]: And then in the penultimate panel, an absolutely ripped Janet opens her final statement with Crimony, which I also have a very, very disorienting.
- 1:41:04[UNKNOWN]: It is a very confusing book in which Jan is mostly right and also doesn't get a relaxing vacation.
- 1:41:09[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, then moving back to the Antman's big Christmas number one.
- 1:41:15[UNKNOWN]: What a great story.
- 1:41:16[UNKNOWN]: This is a Marvel Knights one shot.
- 1:41:18[UNKNOWN]: If you guys remember Marvel Knights when late nineties early 2000s, they were redefining all the characters.
- 1:41:23[UNKNOWN]: This is their take on Antman and the Wasp.
- 1:41:25[UNKNOWN]: It's go ahead.
- 1:41:27[UNKNOWN]: I loved it, actually.
- 1:41:28[UNKNOWN]: I think we're back in continuity a little bit because they're still married.
- 1:41:31[UNKNOWN]: So they're hanging out with the rest of the Avengers.
- 1:41:34[UNKNOWN]: They're talking about Christmas, Jen's like, we should go visit my family for Christmas and Hank is like, but your family hates me and she's like, no, they don't.
- 1:41:40[UNKNOWN]: Then he was like, I was hoping we could ignore Christmas this year.
- 1:41:43[UNKNOWN]: And then so they get into this huge argument about what they're going to do for Christmas.
- 1:41:46[UNKNOWN]: Cap hands them a letter from a kid apparently they do make a make a wish sort of thing for Christmas every year So this is a kid who has a terrible family Christmas every year because his dad long ago made it like promise to his dying mother That he would always have the family for Christmas, but the family are terrible people So Hank tries to call the mom to talk to the little boy and the mom and the kid's name is Larry McGruder
- 1:42:10[UNKNOWN]: Yes, the mom thinks that Hank is a perverse from the internet and hangs up on him.
- 1:42:14[UNKNOWN]: Then Janet calls and gets through the mom, but later my brooders thinks that it's Samantha from his school making fun of him and so she hangs up on he hangs up on her.
- 1:42:22[UNKNOWN]: So then they just show up and learn brooders bedroom like a bunch of creeps from the internet.
- 1:42:25[UNKNOWN]: So like get the load down and so he shows the video of what their family, businesses are like with like the old and that smoke cigars in the house and blow smoke in everyone's face and
- 1:42:34[UNKNOWN]: the dads, brother, who's mean and the cousins who break all of his toys and all this stuff.
- 1:42:39[UNKNOWN]: So they've decided they're going to, they're going to help out with Larry McRooter's family Christmas.
- 1:42:43[UNKNOWN]: And it's great.
- 1:42:44[UNKNOWN]: It's cool.
- 1:42:44[UNKNOWN]: It's Hank.
- 1:42:45[UNKNOWN]: It's quicky, Jen.
- 1:42:46[UNKNOWN]: It's a tiny sadist.
- 1:42:48[UNKNOWN]: And a chance for everyone to indulge their inner 12-year-old.
- 1:42:50[UNKNOWN]: They have a series of canisters of shrinking gas.
- 1:42:53[UNKNOWN]: And so they won by one shrink all of
- 1:42:55[UNKNOWN]: terrible people in this family.
- 1:42:57[UNKNOWN]: And like basically you're like stopping terrible, you're going home right now and you're never coming back at Christmas and they'll like go back to normal size.
- 1:43:03[UNKNOWN]: But their inverter is super smart.
- 1:43:06[UNKNOWN]: He's got some water with some yellow food coloring in it because the shrinking gas only lasts for 10 minutes, but Larry doesn't want them to know that they were going to get big again anyway.
- 1:43:15[UNKNOWN]: So they tying it and he uses his dropper to make them think he's using the serum to like make them grow again.
- 1:43:21[UNKNOWN]: So they give rid of all of the family and everyone is happy.
- 1:43:24[UNKNOWN]: And then Jen and Hank get to stay for Christmas dinner because there's a lot of food because all everyone left.
- 1:43:29[UNKNOWN]: We know nothing by the way about Jen's mother except that she died when Jen was young.
- 1:43:34[UNKNOWN]: The family we meet here is like a great Aunt Sadie and like Uncle Elmer and some like random cousins and like we've never seen new characters again either.
- 1:43:42[UNKNOWN]: Well, and then at the end of it, Hank is like, well, maybe we will go see your family next year.
- 1:43:46[UNKNOWN]: So all is well, it's a great, great, I really enjoy this, actually.
- 1:43:51[UNKNOWN]: You have a lot of fun.
- 1:43:52[UNKNOWN]: And then we move to Las Vegas.
- 1:43:53[UNKNOWN]: So Avengers, volume three, number 71, we're back to.
- 1:43:57[UNKNOWN]: This is the infamous issue where they've had to take the pages out of the book because it's so sexual.
- 1:44:02[UNKNOWN]: Ruth, which one did you read?
- 1:44:04[UNKNOWN]: Did you read the sexual one or the non sexual one?
- 1:44:06[UNKNOWN]: Well, I really hope that when I read was the sexual one.
- 1:44:08[UNKNOWN]: Because there's one that's more spatial than what you see to my God.
- 1:44:12[UNKNOWN]: It's infamous.
- 1:44:13[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yes.
- 1:44:13[UNKNOWN]: Don't worry.
- 1:44:14[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to cover that.
- 1:44:16[UNKNOWN]: Hank and Tanner still divorce, but they are enjoying some sexy time in Vegas.
- 1:44:20[UNKNOWN]: Like literally there's a profile shot of Jan and bed who lifts the sheet and looks down.
- 1:44:25[UNKNOWN]: And the next panel is a little tiny hank running out between her boobs.
- 1:44:29[UNKNOWN]: And he's like dripping in fluid.
- 1:44:33[UNKNOWN]: And then she and then he's basically like, hey, it's your turn and like opening page is like a bunch of like word balloons out of the hotel with her orgasming, it's crazy.
- 1:44:42[UNKNOWN]: They have to pull this out of future issues, isn't that's this is the same issue where a whirlwind dresses prostitute like Jan and beat certain like throws her to her death through the crazy.
- 1:44:51[UNKNOWN]: Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, but at least at least, Hank is showing some appreciation for Jen.
- 1:44:59[UNKNOWN]: Oh, my God, okay, I just want to thank her birthday.
- 1:45:05[UNKNOWN]: The bar is on the ground.
- 1:45:08[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it was surprising.
- 1:45:11[UNKNOWN]: I will see that.
- 1:45:12[UNKNOWN]: But so yes, as Chad said, for what is there dressing people up, prostitutes up as Janet, treating the like Janet, punching them in the face, throwing about the window to their death.
- 1:45:21[UNKNOWN]: He is in fact doing his best.
- 1:45:23[UNKNOWN]: Hank at his worst impression, and it is gross.
- 1:45:25[UNKNOWN]: For a woman manages to find them.
- 1:45:27[UNKNOWN]: I don't actually remember how that happened.
- 1:45:29[UNKNOWN]: What I do remember then is that Hank gets big and naked in Vegas.
- 1:45:33[UNKNOWN]: So there's a lot of suggestive like Hank from the front and then for a woman standing and exactly the right spot in front of him in, I don't know,
- 1:45:41[UNKNOWN]: news of that would stay in Vegas, making that everything that happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
- 1:45:45[UNKNOWN]: I imagine that would get a lot of news coverage.
- 1:45:47[UNKNOWN]: Jan steps up to defend herself.
- 1:45:48[UNKNOWN]: Basic in whirlwind goes on this whole rant about how like everything he did was because he loved her in one tour so she owes him.
- 1:45:55[UNKNOWN]: She's like, I wasn't put on this world for anyone but me and then fucking punches and then the face and he goes flying and it's beautiful.
- 1:46:02[UNKNOWN]: So bravo Janet Bentine, bravo.
- 1:46:04[UNKNOWN]: And then we move on to later eight issues later in Avengers volume three issue 79 and then again 83 and 84 Hawkeye well never date your co-workers, you know what opens and they're kind of chatting about how at one point they had kissed for and it probably shouldn't have happened it's a whole lot of them like being like a trip ahead, but maybe elected, but maybe we should do it again and their little bubbles are in purple for Hawkeye and yellow for the forgenit and this conversation goes on and on and on.
- 1:46:30[UNKNOWN]: And then at some point they end up looking up, they hook up in her room and lock the door, which seems like a mistake, at least go to his room, that seems like really basic, like, knowledge to me.
- 1:46:39[UNKNOWN]: But anyway, Hank comes to get them because they're being called out to do something.
- 1:46:44[UNKNOWN]: There's this other, it was very confusing as well.
- 1:46:46[UNKNOWN]: There's the invaders, there's bad people doing bad things, trying to pretend to be good people.
- 1:46:51[UNKNOWN]: And anyway, they had to go deal with that.
- 1:46:53[UNKNOWN]: And so Hank is like, why is the door locked?
- 1:46:55[UNKNOWN]: And then open the door
- 1:46:59[UNKNOWN]: Pock-eye naked really resembles Hank naked actually during this period.
- 1:47:03[UNKNOWN]: Maybe I can see the appeal for her They show up to like do the fight thing.
- 1:47:07[UNKNOWN]: Pock-eye comes out with Janet's underwear in his belt and cap has to pull him aside And Hawke is like no, no, I know you don't get your co-workers and caps like no, they're there's ladies underwear in your belt
- 1:47:19[UNKNOWN]: So that was embarrassing, but really I think that at this point wasp in the she hope should just go create their own team Maybe with the burning lady that goes on the bad but guys team because they would have been a great team together, and it's just a lot of even though it's white whatever Yes, she's like she's like
- 1:47:35[UNKNOWN]: talking Hawkeye in the building where they work and Hank walks in on them.
- 1:47:39[UNKNOWN]: And later, when she's by the pool having drinks, she's talking about her relationship with Hawkeye, which is when she's like, oh, I almost got married and had kids.
- 1:47:48[UNKNOWN]: You remember when you lost your kids, Monta?
- 1:47:50[UNKNOWN]: This is what causes houses at House of Em.
- 1:47:52[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:47:53[UNKNOWN]: So I just and and also the fact that Hawkeye is like, no, no, we can keep this a secret from everyone.
- 1:47:59[UNKNOWN]: And I'm like, are you stupid?
- 1:48:01[UNKNOWN]: No, you cannot, especially if you're going to do it this badly, which they did moving on again, then to all new Wolverine number five, this is so fun.
- 1:48:08[UNKNOWN]: This is the Laura can you.
- 1:48:09[UNKNOWN]: This is a great story.
- 1:48:10[UNKNOWN]: So this is Janet her best, basically.
- 1:48:13[UNKNOWN]: She comes in after hearing the alarm at her pin laboratory that she is apparently now in charge of because Laura Kenny has broken in because they're trying to steal a suit.
- 1:48:22[UNKNOWN]: Laura's got three clones and all of them are being killed by nanites inside them.
- 1:48:28[UNKNOWN]: So they need a tiny suit.
- 1:48:29[UNKNOWN]: So they can shrink down small enough to fight the nanites inside one of the clones that is doing very badly.
- 1:48:35[UNKNOWN]: Janet comes in and is like, you know,
- 1:48:38[UNKNOWN]: things in my lab because someone was going to shoot the thing to get the suit out.
- 1:48:43[UNKNOWN]: And it was like, so that puts the deal, they explain the deal to where she's like, okay, we're going.
- 1:48:46[UNKNOWN]: Um, so tiny warrior women fighting tiny robots inside you.
- 1:48:50[UNKNOWN]: Uh, she takes charge.
- 1:48:51[UNKNOWN]: She's running the lab.
- 1:48:52[UNKNOWN]: Dr.
- 1:48:53[UNKNOWN]: Strange told them where to get the stuff.
- 1:48:54[UNKNOWN]: So she calls Dr.
- 1:48:55[UNKNOWN]: Strange and gives him the platform on the phone before they put on the suits.
- 1:48:58[UNKNOWN]: Shrink down and go fight the nanites, which is very fun.
- 1:49:00[UNKNOWN]: In the end, it doesn't matter because the girl dies anyway, but she dies happy.
- 1:49:03[UNKNOWN]: They kill the nanites.
- 1:49:03[UNKNOWN]: It's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's
- 1:49:05[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot going on there too, but she's is that Janet like the mom, the tiny warrior woman, she's taking charge.
- 1:49:12[UNKNOWN]: She's supporting women's rights and women's wrongs and is coming through for the people that need her most.
- 1:49:17[UNKNOWN]: And then we're going to conclude with Alice and talking about Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man 105, 106, not a place you'd expect to see a Janet
- 1:49:28[UNKNOWN]: Great.
- 1:49:29[UNKNOWN]: We have another murder wasp story on the flip side books of Avengers 379 through 382 and then finally unstoppable wasp 7 through 9.
- 1:49:38[UNKNOWN]: The first volume, I Jeremy Whitley, one of my all-time favorite Janet stories.
- 1:49:41[UNKNOWN]: In case you were wondering, it is the hardest things to find.
- 1:49:45[UNKNOWN]: I had to use three different apps for this.
- 1:49:48[UNKNOWN]: Spider-Man shows a bronze success to Janet.
- 1:49:50[UNKNOWN]: She does a lot of walking into rooms full of men smoking cigars.
- 1:49:55[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot of that.
- 1:49:56[UNKNOWN]: It's also very anti-union.
- 1:49:58[UNKNOWN]: They're like, oh, the guy is leading the union.
- 1:50:01[UNKNOWN]: We gotta go get him.
- 1:50:02[UNKNOWN]: It's like, oh, okay, Spider-Man, okay.
- 1:50:04[UNKNOWN]: I don't like this vibe.
- 1:50:05[UNKNOWN]: Paladin shows up in this one.
- 1:50:07[UNKNOWN]: I really like this.
- 1:50:07[UNKNOWN]: They have a really good rapport.
- 1:50:09[UNKNOWN]: Janet says, I don't remember you being this tacky when we first met and he like smells her and then says, oh, you smell so good.
- 1:50:18[UNKNOWN]: What's your perfume?
- 1:50:19[UNKNOWN]: And she says it's sweat.
- 1:50:22[UNKNOWN]: And then he's just like the whole time he's like, go on a day with me and she's like, okay, and she just kind of like gets big and she's wearing like lingerie and they're just sitting at a cafe talking and having a little date.
- 1:50:34[UNKNOWN]: She's just totally fine being that it's kind of weird.
- 1:50:37[UNKNOWN]: And then like the whole the whole time she's like I have to leave I have a hair appointment to get to and she does come back with her hair done and it is really cute so I star foxes here I thought those crazy never seen him before he just happens to be in a corner he's laughing I like the he's there he has orgasm powers it's great what he he's like he makes you orgasm he like turns up your fair mones and like yes well hot and horny that's what we've seen
- 1:51:01[UNKNOWN]: As we've seen today, Janet Van Dyne doesn't mean any of that around her.
- 1:51:05[UNKNOWN]: She can do it.
- 1:51:05[UNKNOWN]: Lindsay herself and then how does it look like between her boobs?
- 1:51:10[UNKNOWN]: It's too much.
- 1:51:10[UNKNOWN]: Listen, that was the first orgasm that man has ever given her.
- 1:51:16[UNKNOWN]: Paladin's boss gives him a lot of trash for being soft on Janet and then Janet has a new costume.
- 1:51:22[UNKNOWN]: She's those up.
- 1:51:23[UNKNOWN]: She has this like white pirate shirt with a W on it and it's really cute because the these guys show up and they're like, it's the what what and she's like, I know I should have put the rest of the name on it.
- 1:51:33[UNKNOWN]: Look, they're getting stuck.
- 1:51:34[UNKNOWN]: They think I'm just a W. I thought that was really huge.
- 1:51:37[UNKNOWN]: And then she thinks that she's like gotten rid of all of these drug traffickers that are trafficking cocaine with Teddy bearers But then the teddy bears are full of sugar and she does lick it.
- 1:51:46[UNKNOWN]: She got she like puts the mystery powder on her hand licks it goes.
- 1:51:50[UNKNOWN]: Oh, it's sugar And it's like what if it was cocaine, Janet that's if Janet then time doesn't know what cocaine is She was she was ready to drink y'all summer long
- 1:52:01[UNKNOWN]: In giant man number one, Janet is shrinks and she's just talking.
- 1:52:06[UNKNOWN]: Okay, so Janet is with her shrinks.
- 1:52:08[UNKNOWN]: Sorry.
- 1:52:09[UNKNOWN]: She doesn't shrink.
- 1:52:09[UNKNOWN]: She is with her shrink.
- 1:52:10[UNKNOWN]: It's confusing.
- 1:52:11[UNKNOWN]: She is with her psychiatrist and she's talking about Hank because, you know, a lot of the things that have happened.
- 1:52:16[UNKNOWN]: She talks she starts talking about this time that they were that she did her fashion line and they were having this big celebration of her fashion line.
- 1:52:24[UNKNOWN]: Her and Hank had like break it up.
- 1:52:26[UNKNOWN]: He shows up outside as giant man dressed like a gorilla, but with a bunch of balloons that say, like, congratulations, Jan, and it's so weird.
- 1:52:35[UNKNOWN]: And immediately, like, it terrifies the guests.
- 1:52:38[UNKNOWN]: They go screaming, they think they're gonna dive.
- 1:52:40[UNKNOWN]: And then she's like, oh, it's so magnificent.
- 1:52:43[UNKNOWN]: girl get it together get it together it's it's terrible oh oh and then and then she does turn into giant woman and then she's just basically big terrifying giant 50 foot woman terrorizing everywhere but
- 1:52:58[UNKNOWN]: Don't worry, she's not killing anyone.
- 1:53:00[UNKNOWN]: Yes, she's stepping on cars.
- 1:53:01[UNKNOWN]: Yes, it definitely looks like she's destroying buildings, but they make it very clear that she's not killing anyone.
- 1:53:07[UNKNOWN]: Hank has to stop her and he turns into Goliath and tackles her into these power lines.
- 1:53:13[UNKNOWN]: It's really, really crazy.
- 1:53:15[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, it's an celebration of all of the size changing characters.
- 1:53:18[UNKNOWN]: They're giving a Hank Pym Jan story, but with a bunch of weirdos that show up, including like Atlas from the Thunderbolts.
- 1:53:24[UNKNOWN]: And it ends with them kissing.
- 1:53:26[UNKNOWN]: And then she, and then Janet says, we'll see what kind of a giant size man you are.
- 1:53:32[UNKNOWN]: Janet, stop that.
- 1:53:34[UNKNOWN]: And then I think I read the right out loud.
- 1:53:37[UNKNOWN]: Give me a lot of out loud.
- 1:53:39[UNKNOWN]: I think I read the right unstoppable was, but I think I'm realizing that maybe I didn't.
- 1:53:44[UNKNOWN]: I read number seven and number eight of the 2018 one, but there's a 2017 one, but they both have whirlwind and I got confused, but I like this one.
- 1:53:51[UNKNOWN]: So I wrote about it.
- 1:53:52[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, Jenna in this era is like running her company.
- 1:53:55[UNKNOWN]: She's also started the girl labs.
- 1:53:57[UNKNOWN]: She's brought Nadia under her wing.
- 1:53:59[UNKNOWN]: She's still super harrowing and she gets to kick the ass out of whirlwind.
- 1:54:03[UNKNOWN]: It is a story that's long overdue.
- 1:54:05[UNKNOWN]: She just she like,
- 1:54:06[UNKNOWN]: beats the shit out of them.
- 1:54:07[UNKNOWN]: Like rips his helmet off and then beats him with his helmet.
- 1:54:09[UNKNOWN]: Like it's so warranted.
- 1:54:11[UNKNOWN]: I guess the one I read is a lot of her in Nadia.
- 1:54:13[UNKNOWN]: Nadia is her secret Russian stepdaughter that Hank has had with his first wife.
- 1:54:18[UNKNOWN]: Nadia has a lot of the same kind of
- 1:54:21[UNKNOWN]: difficulties that Hank has.
- 1:54:23[UNKNOWN]: She's freaking out and Janet tries to grab her wrist to calmer down and the second she does a dance like, I know I messed up.
- 1:54:29[UNKNOWN]: And Nadia punches her in the face so hard she breaks her nose.
- 1:54:32[UNKNOWN]: And Janet's like immediately like it's my fault.
- 1:54:35[UNKNOWN]: And then she's like the look in her face is just like pink space where it's determined angry manic and then instantly regretful.
- 1:54:43[UNKNOWN]: I hope that was a lot of good stuff.
- 1:54:44[UNKNOWN]: And then Nadia has been like idolizing her father this whole time.
- 1:54:47[UNKNOWN]: And then she
- 1:54:49[UNKNOWN]: I can't believe like, Janet's even like messing with this girl like, hate, hate, hate, hate her.
- 1:54:54[UNKNOWN]: And not even inside robot.
- 1:54:57[UNKNOWN]: Nadia is so distraught that Hank hit Janet.
- 1:55:00[UNKNOWN]: It's like so upsetting her whole world comes crashing down.
- 1:55:03[UNKNOWN]: I mean, while they're making the girl program, they got labs.
- 1:55:06[UNKNOWN]: It's very cool.
- 1:55:07[UNKNOWN]: They also all get a new outfit so they all get these cool little dresses to wear to a gala.
- 1:55:11[UNKNOWN]: Nadia has a basically Janet is just the fixer.
- 1:55:14[UNKNOWN]: She does a lot of cool stuff.
- 1:55:18[UNKNOWN]: Like, she's literally like, send her a booker, or you wait, and she basically gets nodia citizenship.
- 1:55:24[UNKNOWN]: And nodia's like, hey, I'm supposed to put it last name, but I'm from the red room, and I never had a last name, and I think it should it probably should be pinned, but I found out that he sucks, and you're the closest thing to I have to want mom, so can I put Van Dyne and I'm
- 1:55:37[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot of really great female teenage characters that Jeremy's writing here.
- 1:55:42[UNKNOWN]: One's a queer story.
- 1:55:43[UNKNOWN]: There's one character wrestling with a disability.
- 1:55:46[UNKNOWN]: And Nautia goes through a full breakdown.
- 1:55:48[UNKNOWN]: Like manic episode does some things to harm her friends without just like during her mania.
- 1:55:54[UNKNOWN]: She's like, I want to fix everybody.
- 1:55:55[UNKNOWN]: And they're like, we're not fucking broken girl.
- 1:55:57[UNKNOWN]: And at the end of this story, Jan, it's like, can we get you some help?
- 1:56:00[UNKNOWN]: Because like, this is a condition you can manage.
- 1:56:01[UNKNOWN]: And Nautia's like, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:56:03[UNKNOWN]: So it ends up being a really beautiful story
- 1:56:07[UNKNOWN]: No, it's it's really good and everyone is doing a much better job now that Hank Pems on her.
- 1:56:12[UNKNOWN]: So this is the history and celebration of Janet Van Dyne.
- 1:56:15[UNKNOWN]: We got the conversation about Hank early on, but I really wanted to celebrate the pieces of this character that make her feel very special.
- 1:56:22[UNKNOWN]: What do I love?
- 1:56:22[UNKNOWN]: I love her like later journey to self-discovery and I love her desire to make sure that her mood and her situation is reflected in her clothing, right?
- 1:56:32[UNKNOWN]: She's always representing herself in some way.
- 1:56:35[UNKNOWN]: curious to know like what she hopes for herself is a superhero like a lot of her stories are either her dealing with you know relationship issues or her kind of like putting other people above herself and like helping them.
- 1:56:49[UNKNOWN]: But like not on like a super large heroic scale more on like personal help like individuals.
- 1:56:56[UNKNOWN]: So I think I'd like to know like does she see herself as like could she be a solo hero or does she really just think of herself
- 1:57:03[UNKNOWN]: helping hand and there to hype up others.
- 1:57:06[UNKNOWN]: Many.
- 1:57:07[UNKNOWN]: I love and I believe Alicia and I talked about this and the fashion one as well.
- 1:57:13[UNKNOWN]: I love that she never sacrifices her femininity.
- 1:57:16[UNKNOWN]: She's like, no, no, I'm still a girl's girl.
- 1:57:19[UNKNOWN]: I'm gonna get my hair done.
- 1:57:20[UNKNOWN]: I'm gonna get my nails done.
- 1:57:21[UNKNOWN]: I'm gonna have my face on.
- 1:57:23[UNKNOWN]: But I'm also going to kill you and and also she's as she goes into her own she's a no nonsense business woman she own several companies I believe she has a fashion mine she now owns a science lab good for her again she was the you know charter and not Chairman or whatever of like the Avengers so it's like she she can lead a team what what I'm curious about for her.
- 1:57:47[UNKNOWN]: I would actually really like her to find someone that is like, like, find a relationship that is more healthy for her.
- 1:57:57[UNKNOWN]: I think she might need to maybe like not maybe not date outside like sort of like the social light, like sort of a listters of the New York, like I think that still definitely her vibe.
- 1:58:10[UNKNOWN]: Like I don't think she could date like,
- 1:58:12[UNKNOWN]: I don't know, like, I don't think she could do it like an athlete or like a blue collar person if that makes sense.
- 1:58:17[UNKNOWN]: Like, I, I feel like that's not her vibe, but I don't think she should date any more supers.
- 1:58:23[UNKNOWN]: I feel like they're fun to flirt with.
- 1:58:26[UNKNOWN]: I'm sure she'd has a good time and like there's like some like fun in that, but I feel like she needs.
- 1:58:32[UNKNOWN]: I feel like she needs a healthy relationship and someone who supports her and her not supporting her.
- 1:58:38[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I think the thing I like best about Janet is that she just sticks with it, right?
- 1:58:42[UNKNOWN]: She's always there.
- 1:58:43[UNKNOWN]: She gets knocked down.
- 1:58:44[UNKNOWN]: She's coming back.
- 1:58:45[UNKNOWN]: She does things differently.
- 1:58:47[UNKNOWN]: She tries new stuff.
- 1:58:48[UNKNOWN]: But she also tends to sacrifice perhaps her own wellbeing for the good of the others around her.
- 1:58:54[UNKNOWN]: which at times can be no but also would like to see like what happens if she doesn't decide to do that sometimes like if she doesn't in fact decide to put herself first or at least a value her own experience in a way that she values experiences for others what I would like I would love to see her on a team of like a women's team up like a bigger one I think that would be great I think it would be really interesting just to see what that dynamic would be I'm like I'm kind of tired watching all these ladies run around in this men's world it's got a lot better but I think there's room to make it better still
- 1:59:24[UNKNOWN]: Um, I really like that from first of all, I like mess and I like reading about messy people and I like seeing her grow and make choices and make decisions and decide how her life's going to be.
- 1:59:37[UNKNOWN]: I like her creativity.
- 1:59:38[UNKNOWN]: I like how feminine she is.
- 1:59:40[UNKNOWN]: I think I would definitely want to see her on a female team like kind of like birds of prey is where they're all doing kick ass stuff and she gets to put them all in fun outfits and put them in disguise and stuff.
- 1:59:54[UNKNOWN]: I also like that she this character has managed to kind of become her own thing like she was so overshadowed by Hank Pim for so long, but she's kind of like if someone says the loss you know you're not like oh Hank Pim's wife you're like oh it's Janet and Doc like she's her own thing now and I think that's really cool.
- 2:00:12[UNKNOWN]: I love how tenacious she is she you know is going to keep going at it and she's going to become the best of what she does and I love that
- 2:00:20[UNKNOWN]: Um, running a business, running a team, even when Hank didn't want to be saved.
- 2:00:24[UNKNOWN]: She showed up and she blasted that semi truck when he did not deserve it.
- 2:00:29[UNKNOWN]: I am curious what she thinks that she is not good at and what she constantly keeps trying out that she's not good at.
- 2:00:37[UNKNOWN]: And if she's willing to ask for help for these things, regardless if that is in a team's dynamic, if that is in motherhood or if that's in, you know, some like things, mentally she needs to get checked up on, that she doesn't realize that she needs.
- 2:00:55[UNKNOWN]: And Hank should have in his bio wasps ex husband.
- 2:01:01[UNKNOWN]: One thing I've not been able to talk about on the show ever before, I'm a big Natalie Wood fan.
- 2:01:06[UNKNOWN]: I love Natalie Wood films.
- 2:01:07[UNKNOWN]: I love her story.
- 2:01:09[UNKNOWN]: She's one of my all-time favorites.
- 2:01:10[UNKNOWN]: Natalie Wood is the Janet Vendine Template for me.
- 2:01:13[UNKNOWN]: And Natalie Wood was a child actress, Miracle on 34th Street, a teen actress, in some of the most influential Hollywood movies for generations from West Side Street.
- 2:01:22[UNKNOWN]: to rebel without a cause, Bob and Carol and Alyssa and Ted and Alyssa if you've never seen it, some really great stuff.
- 2:01:27[UNKNOWN]: Natalie Wood, there are allegations that she was raped by a Hollywood actor at the age of 16, and then it happened subsequently.
- 2:01:34[UNKNOWN]: She married again in Robert Wagner at 19, and then caught him with a man a year later, divorced him and later remarried him.
- 2:01:40[UNKNOWN]: She did it a bunch of people.
- 2:01:41[UNKNOWN]: She would often get cast into these roles where she would be the independent woman and have to give up her femininity for someone.
- 2:01:47[UNKNOWN]: And in 1981, she was a on a boat with her husband and Christopher walkin was there and they found her dead in the water and Robert Wagner was believed to have killed her like she had bruises and things like that on her, but he was never officially charged because they could never prove it.
- 2:02:04[UNKNOWN]: So she died pretty, young and rubber.
- 2:02:07[UNKNOWN]: Wagner is still alive at the age of 96.
- 2:02:10[UNKNOWN]: So there's some really crazy history.
- 2:02:12[UNKNOWN]: Janet's story, she lives beyond 1981, but that liberation arc for her like leaving her marriage happens around the same time.
- 2:02:19[UNKNOWN]: And there's some really interesting things that happen for me with this character as she discovers her independence.
- 2:02:24[UNKNOWN]: If I was able to write like a wasp,
- 2:02:26[UNKNOWN]: for like, let's say it's like a four-issue limited series.
- 2:02:29[UNKNOWN]: I would love to open with her like rich interior world.
- 2:02:32[UNKNOWN]: I would love to learn about her mother.
- 2:02:34[UNKNOWN]: I want her to have some supervillains that have nothing to do with stalkers or like men who are after her.
- 2:02:40[UNKNOWN]: But it would be really funny to see her in kind of a corporate role where like there's a new villain created or in established villain who like really just ends up destructing everything.
- 2:02:50[UNKNOWN]: It's that story where she loses it all and then has to gain it back and like learns about herself along the way right her super powers are also really interesting she's often just the zippy girl with like the the stinger but occasionally if you've read like uncanny avengers she'll get really powered up I do not like her as a giant woman but an uncanny avengers she's like summoning alien insects to like smash people she's grown into people and like expanding out of them there's some interesting ways of like her expanding her powers and even turning her into a murder was
- 2:03:17[UNKNOWN]: We couldn't let her transform back and forth if it's a her choice and not hanged pims.
- 2:03:22[UNKNOWN]: I really love this character and I love her progression over the years.
- 2:03:25[UNKNOWN]: If we go into the X-Men world, I think you can bounce Janet Van Dyne off almost any character and have it be wildly entertaining.
- 2:03:32[UNKNOWN]: King Gray, Emma Frost, Ice Man, Beast, Havick.
- 2:03:36[UNKNOWN]: Right, like there's all these characters, which she has a certain side that she brings out in other characters, which makes her an excellent part of a lot of ensemble books in my brain as well.
- 2:03:44[UNKNOWN]: I really love to this character.
- 2:03:46[UNKNOWN]: I love celebrating her today and I love hanging out with this group of intellectual nerdy girls.
- 2:03:51[UNKNOWN]: I'm so happy to be here with all of you today.
- 2:03:54[UNKNOWN]: We're gonna wrap up here.
- 2:03:55[UNKNOWN]: I'd love to hear any final thoughts as we're wrapping up.
- 2:03:57[UNKNOWN]: Grimmelkin Lane, we're gonna be ending the show over on the Patreon, doing only girls on the team villain style.
- 2:04:02[UNKNOWN]: With the character Tatoo from the kid Omega Gang.
- 2:04:07[UNKNOWN]: She's a really fun character.
- 2:04:08[UNKNOWN]: We have some really fun thoughts on her.
- 2:04:10[UNKNOWN]: In June, I always announce the next three trials.
- 2:04:12[UNKNOWN]: In June, please stay tuned for the trial of Black Tom Cassidy.
- 2:04:15[UNKNOWN]: In July, we're doing the trial of Adrian Tum's The Vulture, another of my all-time Marvel favorites.
- 2:04:21[UNKNOWN]: And in August, watch for the trial of Lady of Petrovna, Dark Star.
- 2:04:27[UNKNOWN]: So we have some really fun, X-Men content planned out throughout the rest of the year.
- 2:04:31[UNKNOWN]: Thank you all for the ongoing support, much love.
- 2:04:33[UNKNOWN]: all of the show at Grameltham Understore Lane, and if you haven't yet, please order Game Mormon Dad, the graphic memoir, my incredible book which was just released in early May, as we're recording this actually, May 3rd, it comes out on Tuesday officially, so if you haven't read it, I would appreciate it if you did, and if you have, please leave a review on good reads.
- 2:04:50[UNKNOWN]: I would appreciate that very much too, it helps us indie writers very much.
- 2:04:54[UNKNOWN]: This was so fun!
- 2:04:56[UNKNOWN]: I love the daily Janet Handle Tax.
- 2:04:59[UNKNOWN]: I love bonding with everyone.
- 2:05:01[UNKNOWN]: I'm gonna be sad and no longer to be.
- 2:05:03[UNKNOWN]: To get those, I will maybe still send them out of love.
- 2:05:07[UNKNOWN]: This was an absolute joy.
- 2:05:09[UNKNOWN]: I want to plug mental health, everyone, do it.
- 2:05:12[UNKNOWN]: You know, times are rough.
- 2:05:13[UNKNOWN]: It's okay.
- 2:05:14[UNKNOWN]: Like, get the help you need.
- 2:05:16[UNKNOWN]: And then you can find me on Instagram, Curls, comics, Curls with a Z, I'm very cool.
- 2:05:22[UNKNOWN]: Philly Comic Con is at the end of the maze.
- 2:05:24[UNKNOWN]: I'm very looking forward to that.
- 2:05:25[UNKNOWN]: So if anyone's going, please let me know I would love to meet up.
- 2:05:28[UNKNOWN]: My final thoughts, okay.
- 2:05:30[UNKNOWN]: So I think that what has been really exciting for me is like getting to see these different eras of Jan. And, you know, I was really living in the era where I felt like,
- 2:05:41[UNKNOWN]: I wanted so much more for her and so getting to see that and then also doing this trial and away that was a little bit different where we got more nitty gritty details from each of the stories and having the collective effervescence of reacting to those stories and like because we've all been talking about Jan for months now we we hold her special in our hearts and so like we were vindicated like we were like vindicated along with her when she did things that were great
- 2:06:10[UNKNOWN]: I think that's really great.
- 2:06:10[UNKNOWN]: And I think it's really interesting to take a character that you just don't know a lot about and just get a greater appreciation for them.
- 2:06:16[UNKNOWN]: So I really always value this time in these trials and like getting to understand more about her and I think that, you know, there is so much more to her and I want to see her like do big business things in the world.
- 2:06:25[UNKNOWN]: as far as things to plug in the next few months we will likely be starting the brood saga reviewing the original brood saga on the x-wife podcast and then I don't really have much going on in the summer as far as comic things are concerned but if you're in the New England area and you want to check out the liquids buying home body project gallery which is a dance show and art gallery showing that'll be May 30th and 31st.
- 2:06:49[UNKNOWN]: It is a showcase of
- 2:06:53[UNKNOWN]: special places so I did an art installation where I danced in a growth of trees and then I'm making a solo about it So that's pretty cool And then I'll be at the uncanny experience at September and New York Comic-Con in October and good stuff coming around there If you want to follow me, you can find me on Instagram and TikTok at Wilder Moves Also, I am on half of the x-wife podcast so you can follow the x-wife podcast.
- 2:07:15[UNKNOWN]: It's THEX WIFE as an X-Men, not former wife.
- 2:07:20[UNKNOWN]: Although Virginia, it's although for Janet it's former wife
- 2:07:24[UNKNOWN]: Just overall, I've really enjoyed this.
- 2:07:25[UNKNOWN]: I really like the the daily Janet images.
- 2:07:30[UNKNOWN]: It was been really nice.
- 2:07:31[UNKNOWN]: I want to go read all of the Janet that I I feel like I just got the tail end of it and I want to go read all about her now over on escape the mojo verse.
- 2:07:47[UNKNOWN]: at this time.
- 2:07:48[UNKNOWN]: And if and school is also out probably when you're hearing this.
- 2:07:52[UNKNOWN]: So I don't come shoot us a message on Instagram.
- 2:07:55[UNKNOWN]: We'll definitely have more time to talk to you.
- 2:07:58[UNKNOWN]: We're going to skip the motorbose on Instagram.
- 2:08:00[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, send us a message we like talking to people.
- 2:08:04[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I just second and third what everybody else said.
- 2:08:07[UNKNOWN]: What a great, what a great time.
- 2:08:08[UNKNOWN]: I found my way to this podcast through the trial of the Scarlet Witch.
- 2:08:12[UNKNOWN]: And so sitting here sort of feels like a good mirror to that very first experience of that very first thing that I listened to.
- 2:08:19[UNKNOWN]: But like Janet and water like I don't know, sister wives, cousins, like their family trees are very intertwined.
