Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey guys, guy here coming up on the show today, my buddy Evan Moore who's been on the show before he played in the NFL.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: He is an excellent NFL analyst.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: He does a podcast with his brother-in-law Nick Folls and I'll introduce that coming up in a minute.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now the one thing I have to tell you is that even though I sound good right now on my electoral voice, Ari 20,
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: I lost my fundamentals during this interview and didn't realize until it was over that I was not recording myself on this microphone recording myself on my computers internal mic, which is not as good.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I apologize for that.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing it meant is in the last couple of minutes, like the last 30 seconds, my boy starts crying like not having my boy, but like my boy, my son starts crying in the background.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_01]: And if that had been going on the whole, I ignored it because I'm like, I mean, I didn't ignore it.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm like, it's not a problem because this microphone isn't going to pick that up.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then it got picked up because it was on that weekend computer microphone.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I mentioned that now because I'm going to play this clip.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: Evan came on and was like, I love Presto.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: He lives in Orange County.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: And so, uh, I want you to hear it because it's not just me telling all the time that Puesto and me, he kind of moderno two locations in Levi's stadium locations.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: In Southern California, in Orange County, La Jolla and two locations in the Bay Area Concord and Santa Clara, it's not just me telling you that it's incredible food.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's a multiple guess now.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, it's been like, oh, the food is so good.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to play that right here.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to hear the baby crying in the background.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: That is not how this whole thing sounds.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: The baby's not crying in the background during this conversation.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Coming up, Evan talks about the Niners Path to the playoffs.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: The other teams in the NFC, the Rams, the Seahawks.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: He's very tied in.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Why he doesn't think the 49ers should be afraid of the Eagles at all in the postseason.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: Evan played tight end.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: What he loves about George Kittle, quarterbacking in the NFL right now.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of, I thought this was a really, really insightful conversation because Evan's very smart and a great communicator.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: So you'll enjoy it.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: And first though, this is what he said about Puesto.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just me.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling it.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just me.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: I love Puesto.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: You came on you like his question sponsor.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: I've got to find a way to make them one of our spots.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: I love places.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll get, I'll get the Adler brothers to go check out the season pod as soon as you can.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm guessing Puesto is a, they're Niners fan, so they might not be interested in jumping on ours, but they talk as, they're talk was amazing.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: Which, which location do you go to?
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: I won't normally pay that much for a taco, but when it's this good, is that one?
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'll pay that much for a while.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: Is that a bad, I can't tell if that's a bad thing.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: The Orange County.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: Orange County.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: We have a couple in Orange County and they're fantastic.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: Now, time to get on with the interview.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: Here is my conversation with Evan.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Evan more one of the best there is.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: He is the co-host of the season podcast with his brother-in-law Nick Falls.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: Evan played in the NFL.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: Played its name for it.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: We worked together for a long time at the serious exam and Colin football games and the insights excellent.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I recommend you go check out the season podcast where every time Nick Falls talks about the Eagles, they go viral.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: And Nick Serriani has to get asked questions about it.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, we were texting and I thought of you, every because I was trying to figure out are the eagles on the list of teams that owners do or don't want to play in the playoff.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we still have to make the playoff.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: There's three weeks left.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: But to me, that list right now is basically the Rams, which is interesting because the runners have a pretty good history against the Rams, but I think the Rams can do something that some of these other teams can't match you Stafford specifically that I just don't rush the passer and Stafford's a guy that kills you if you give him time right now, jail and Hertz is not a guy that kills you if you give him time so from a nighters perspective, you just got done doing the your podcast with Nick, but from a nighters perspective right now, how do you view their competition in the NFC?
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's super interesting, guysy, because I've long thought for the better part of the season that the seahawks and the Rams, not in that order, Rams seahawks actually are the two best teams in football and two teams that I would not want to play no matter who I am in the NFL.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: And for that reason, as I look at kind of the hierarchy of the NFC, the Ramzo are really the only team where I'm certain they can win because of their quarterback, right?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: And when I say that, some people go, hey, easy man, like Sam Donalds had a fantastic year.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: He had a great year last year as well before Stumbling in the playoffs.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: Earlier in the season, when they played the Ramzo he turned it over four times.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: So outside of the Ramzo right now is the one scene, because I think it's fair to say we're pretty certain
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: the Rams can not only win with Matt Staffer, but they can win because of the Matt Stafford?
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: After the Rams, I think we're loaded with teams where I just don't know if their quarterback could take them over the top on a postseason run.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not throwing shade of Brock Perty either for that matter, but I look at Caleb Williams.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: I look at Jalen Hurtz.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: I look at whoever comes out of the NFC South, whether it's Baker Mayfield or whether it's the Panthers.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I look at the Seahawks with Sam Darnl and all the way down to the Packers.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I feel second best about where he's at, but as far as who the Niners could play in the playoffs, I mean, look.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: The Eagles, we've talked about the Eagles a ton on our show over the course of the year.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: And Jalen Hurts, I think, is flirting with sort of Russell Wilson territory, right?
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: Where he is very structured, dependent, as far as how he runs our offense and where he flourishes.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: And when you take away, because they've had protection issues this year, the Eagles have, they don't run the ball very well.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: And when you force him to be kind of a drop back pastor where the ball's in his hands 30, you know, let's say 28 to 32 times a game,
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it sort of exposes them in some ways.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: And it's shocking to see how much they've struggled to run the football, but
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: If I look at the overall landscape of the NFC, that's kind of where I land.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's like I'm seeing a bunch of teams, even though to be clear, I think whoever comes out of the NFC ends up as the favorite and the Super Bowl, especially if it's the Rams of the Seahawks.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: Even if I'm playing the bills, I feel... Look, I've got a lot of thoughts on the bills.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: We can talk about the bills in a second.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: I love Josh Allen, but the bills are a very imperfect roster.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Now, they could be playing well at the right time down the stretch.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's still very possible.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: There's a big wind against the Patriots, but...
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: there's still a lot of unknowns at the quarterback position to me as we look at and a lot of this is because we're seeing a changing of the garden so many ways especially with the chiefs.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: Things are a lot different.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of new blood and football teams have won a lot of games this year with their quarterback.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: Can they win because of their quarterback?
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think that question needs to be answered to playoffs.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well to me, I mean what you're talking about is the top.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: we could debate Drake may or they're winning with or because like it's probably a mix Denver you know you look at the top of the fc like which one of the one of these teams is raising the lumbarty right it's it's why the Rams are the favorite right now and it's why Stafford I haven't you see the favorite I mean yes so he's minus like if we go off of like gambling on yeah on draft Kings Matt Stafford's minus 300 and Drake made by the way was the
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think Josh Allen this past weekend, basically.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: stole the spotlight from Drake May with regard to MVP.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: He stole his kind of MVP moment, if you will.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: And Josh Allen's now right around minus five or season plus five hundred.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a three man race and Josh Allen's back in it because of what he did at Poxbro's best weekend.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, a couple years ago it was Dak and Brock and then both of them kind of fell apart in the last month and Lamar Jackson like won it because somebody had to win it and he had a really good end of the season.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I, it's, see, I think if you ask most people, what's the worst matchup for the nighters?
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: They start with the Rams and then they'd say what you said,
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you nailed it like, let's see what happens here down the stretch.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: I remember about a month ago, your old buddy, your old teammate, Richard Sherman said, like, to see out for the most complete team, I'll eat.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: And they were really good.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: They are really good.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: Although their offense has really struggled lately, especially in the colds, especially against the colds.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: But my response was not response.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like Richard didn't say it to me was just.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a week 10 somebody has to look like the best team in league and that doesn't mean you're going to be the best team in the league week 18 like let's see At one point indie was the best team then Seattle is the best team now Seattle doesn't look like the best team
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: week 18 they play the night i mean if they could be the rams on thursday night then the nighters and c-ups might be playing for the one seed week 18 like that which is unbelievable i know but but guy the there's the thing i don't think people understand about dangerous the nighter still are there is not a ten-win team that's more overlooked in the nighters and for obvious reasons right the injuries all year long we don't want to put too much equity in what teams do in the first nine and ten games because it's about playing well at the right time but
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: Because of all their injuries, people have just always assumed.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the nighters are hanging in there, but are they for real?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and then they started to get healthier, and they're still winning games, like my goodness, like they're still on the mix.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: They have a chance to sweep the seahawks this year, and they've split with the Rams.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: So you can say, oh, you want like, those are teams we don't want to play.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: If they beat the seahawks this week, 18, did they play?
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: They'll sweep them on the season at home.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: At home.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: They play them in San Francisco, right?
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: They'll sweep them on the season.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: So like, granted, those are the other two best teams in the NFC.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't think you can overlook the barriers, the barriers you talk.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they've already established that.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: But the teams we're talking about, the Niners have a chance to win three of four matchups against the two top teams in the NFC.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know if I'd be afraid to play any of these teams about the Niners, based off what I've done, these are two division teams we're talking about.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I correct, to me, it's not about afraid, especially because like, as an organ, from a fan base and a team standpoint, like they've beaten the ram so many times.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I agree, they're overlooked.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: But if you look very closely, what you see is a defense that can't stop the run.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the tight and cam wars been sacked 49 times, the miners didn't sack them.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: They don't pressure the quarterback and they don't stop the run.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Which means they got a score.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, like, that's what the Lions, the Lions are gonna miss the playoffs.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we just saw the Lions and Rams do.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: The Lions score a bunch of points, but they don't stop anybody.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now,
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm judging that I was right now coming off their worst defensive, by my, based on a poll and I thought their worst defensive game, they can be better, and I also think to your, it goes back to, I think it's a big last month for Brock.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you get these opportunities as a quarterback, prime time games, there's a chance if Seattle beats the Rams Thursday that the Niners play in three straight prime time games and the season, this Monday night against the cult, so that I against the Bears, and then if that's for first place, we can team, they probably get flexed
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so transfer block here to go kind of do, you know, you know, you know, fantastic opportunity for him and you mentioned cultivars hawks, I mean,
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: The colds have a fun story going on with fellow brevers.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about their defense played well against Seattle and he kept him in the mix playing old band football where he processes things quickly, takes care of the ball gets it out.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they're still a place in football for that.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: We thought times we see it with Aaron Rodgers too, some things he did last night, when the Steelers played Miami, Aaron does things that have nothing to do with his athleticism, his deteriorating athleticism.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: and Philip Rivers never wanted ton of games because of his athleticism.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: They brought him in for other reasons, right?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: And that's taking care of the ball and getting it out quick, and he did that the other day, and he looked good doing it.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, Colts Bears Hawks, the issue with the bears is the bears are a serious team around the football.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about that.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: They'll run all over you, between John Drake, Slipton, Kalman, Ungai, I mean, they are a problem.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: And for that reason, Ben Johnson, you know, all the respect we've given him over the course of the year, the turnaround that he's orchestrated and really starting by rebuilding the offensive line, that's what makes him a threat down the stretch.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: But to our point about winning with and because,
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm waiting to see if Caleb Williams can take that big step as they get closer down the stretch into into the playoffs.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: Can Caleb Williams be the reason they win football games.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: Now, granted, he's taking less sacks.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: He's not turning it over.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big deal.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: But can he be the reason they win football games?
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: They become a lot more dangerous.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: If they're only the threat they are to run the football and taking the ball away, I mean, they're turnover differential still crazy.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's really, really good.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's a game I think the Ninerskin win.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the nighters can win in Philly as well to be very clear about that.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like what about the Eagles have you seen this year that terrifies you?
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: We're like delusional about a lot of teams this year, right?
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: We were for the chiefs for the better part of the season.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: We kept thinking they'll figure it out.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: They'll turn a corner.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: That didn't happen.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: And they're still a part of people at nine and five with the Eagles, where they say, yeah, they've struggled here.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: They've struggled there, but they still have a team that want a Super Bowl last year.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: By and large, it's more or less the same roster.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: The Eagles cannot run the football.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the turnaround from my last year to this year when it comes to running the football is completely different, right?
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: And for that reason, they become very one-dimensional.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: They don't beat you with formations.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: They don't motion and shift very well.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: And Jalen's forced to do things that he's just not comfortable doing.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: And it puts him in a really tough spot.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: So right now, after the Rams, if you look at the playoff picture right now, there's it to Eagles or at three.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: You can insert the NFC South when or at number four, but there's a chance the NFC South when there's going to have a losing record going into the playoffs.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: between bears and eagles and whoever comes out of the NFC South, if I'm the Niners, those are matchups I'll take any day of the week, even though I respect the bears the most out of those three.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the eagles have been so, it been really hard, especially because like, from a nighters perspective, the arguments with them become so, like, I got a buddy who's in a good eagles fan.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I just, oh my god, I can't take it.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: I saw him at the night or game this week, and he's like, we're talking about jail and hurts.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, you mean Super Bowl MVP jail and hurts?
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: And like, I've always, to me, the clearest thing anybody has said about them was what you said earlier and you said it on your last podcast.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: that you feel like, oh, no, I didn't say this or did you say this, that they lack fun to metals.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: Next set.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was so, it crystallized for me why I believe in Kyle Shanahan, because regardless of his personnel, his teams are fun to him, his offense, it's fun to metal.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: And it also crystallized for me why it's like, so, why I was so begrudging, like, give Seriani his flowers.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's an offensive coach who can't fix the offense, they keep taking play calling from him.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: and they I think maybe that's what we're seeing this year.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: And and so it's why Nick went so far into fundamentals on the Eagles.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: He was openly wondering whether or not they have individual periods in practice.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: He thought he was he took a deep dive on the all 22 against two they played two weeks ago.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm blank and they lost.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: I'm blank and he took a deep dive on the all 22
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: That was I think that was a week before the couple game they lost three and they lost oh chargers chargers Yes, the money night game.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: He took a deep dive on that game and was watching Jalen's footwork and his comfort building the pocket And his willingness to work through progressions Yes, scheme is a problem with the Eagles.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about that Kevin Patul has got a lot of criticism, but
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: that being said, what they are running is not being executed correctly, right, from because Nick knows this offense.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's, he's, you know, from the Frank Reich, Nick Seriani tree, right, he's been around it.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, these plays I'm watching, I know the way they're being taught.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: And they're not being executed correctly.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I'm not trying to let Kevin but two, I'll just off the hook completely on this.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: They're offensive coordinator, but he's like execution just is not there.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: And,
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: People are like in the Eagles organization and the players are wise to it.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like they, there's some curiosity about Jalen without the run game they've had in the past and without the system they've had in the past cause you're so like structured opinion, can he orchestrate or run here?
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: And in a way, we're almost crazy to think like, no, they'll figure it out.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is like, this Eagles team I'm telling you right?
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: That was not just gonna figure it out down the stretch.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: They are in trouble and if they end up with a home playoff game, they may be a point and a half favor against whoever they play.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: But this team is, there's a lot of deficiencies in the way they're playing outside the defense.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: The defensive head has had some rough patches over the course of the year, like Chicago ran for over 260 against him, I believe it was.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's unlike a big fan geo defense.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: But I'll give the defense a pass in that game because for the most part, they've kept the Eagles in these games.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's the quarterback position and what they're doing offensively that makes them a team.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you need to be too worried about the playoffs.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: The Russell Comp is interesting.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: You play with Russell and Seattle, right?
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: I remember four or five years in the Russell's career.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: I was talking to a former coach of mine that has been around Russell.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: And been around that system a lot.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: He made a comment to me.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: He goes, you know, he goes, Russell's doing great.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: And to be clear, Russell,
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: might be a Hall of Famer, and the way the way it ends may be effects perception, but he's done a lot.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's had a fantastic career.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: He goes, I just want to see what things look like when that offensive line is not what it is now and Martian Lynch has gone.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then it got into that era of like the late 2010s, approaching 2020.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: It got into that era of like, let Russ cook, right?
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: Where Russ was throwing 35 times a game.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not where Russ shines.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like for example, I think one of the reasons the Eagles drafted jail in hurts in the second round is because they now that when they had a chance to draft for us a Wilson, they drafted Nick instead and worked out for them, right?
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: Nick was a pro baller his first time around, Nick Folls, and then came back to one of Super Bowl.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I think Jeffrey Lory and that staff has always had a little bit of affinity like we really like Russ, we missed him, right?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: And so come back around and it's like, okay, let's pull Jalen because there's some similarities there.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I think their career so far had been very similar.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like when he's in the right system, Jalen is fantastic.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: This year he doesn't run it nearly as much.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he's being told to protect himself.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: But I bring all this up because again, there's a three seed right now and then I've seen where the Niners could conceivably end up playing in Philly, who knows, right?
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: There are too many issues on this team to look and say not a place we want to go.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I would want that match up if I were the Niners right now.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: Unless it's the NFC South team, I would rather go play the Eagles than go to Soldier Field and play the Bears.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: Would you rather go play the Eagles than go to Tampa?
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'll take Tampa right now.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: Tampa offensively, it's been pretty bad.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: kind of cratering at the wrong time, you know what I mean?
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: And they're a team that also doesn't seem to believe.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think at this point, especially based off their last last week, I think Todd Bowles is, I think his status is questionable, especially if they just did the doors blown off in the playoffs.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's just such a, yeah, like they, they did beat the Niners with Mac Jones in Tampa this year.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: But that was when they were playing it, look, there's a lot of teams in the league, guysy.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: that built a lot of equity as far as the way we perceive them.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of teams in football, AFC and NFC that have built their equity on the first nine and ten games.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: And as we know, it simply does, as long as you could not destroy yourself early in the season like the bangles did last year and not make the playoffs, because you were so bad early.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: As we know, it's so much of it matters how you're playing at the right time.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's a long season and the bucks are a great example of you point to, well, Mac Jones and the Niners went out there and lost to him.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: That was one Tampa was playing good ball.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Tampa is a completely different football team right now.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're not getting stops.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Their coaches called him out after games.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Their offense is not executing their dropping balls.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to watch.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like a Mecca book is not the same player he was earlier in the year.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't going to ask you about this, but it just occurred to me like we meant to talk about it during the off season and it didn't happen.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: And so I just want to ask you real quick because George Kittle has been special.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: He is special, but he continues to be special.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: I just for people watching YouTube, I just pulled up your wiki because I thought I had that photo of you.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: Did you write all that from me on working now, but somebody somebody goes deep on your wiki I don't know who Well, I promise it wasn't me.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'd tell you if it was me, but you know you you played the position what I don't know man like what when you watch George Kiddle Makes you go wow.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anything that besides ankle flexion?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you hear me talk a lot about ankle flexion like people talk about being a knee-bender ankle flexion is why guys or knee-benders and nobody understands that but nobody cares about that ankle flexion is good knee-bender is bad yeah, no, no ankle flexion makes you a knee-bender so you can't say someone's a knee-bender without noting the fact that they have fantastic ankle flexibility
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: Because they can keep their heels on the ground when they bend their knees and they can therefore get power You'll watch a lot of tight ends like they get in their stance and they go on their toes Because they can't flex their ankles very well and they have no power and that stands right especially in the run game
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: What blows me away about George Kittle is the throwback nature of him and guys like Rob Runkowski, right?
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: I was a receiving Titan and more or less a wide receiver in a lot of ways.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: And what I'm truly impressed with at the Titan position is guys that can really check every single box, right?
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: They can hang at the line of scrimmage with physicality.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: So they understand the game enough because they're involved in the run game and pass protection.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: And then they can split out or even run from there in line route like hand on the ground.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_00]: They run their routes the way George Kettle runs their routes.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: So right now, here's an example.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: Go back to the Eagles.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think the Eagles have a guy that owns the middle of the field.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: I like Dallas, Goddard.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't love the way they use them, but I don't think they have a guy that owns the middle of the field.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: So who can own the middle of the field?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: A really, really effective slot receiver or a really good Titan.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the things that hurts Jalen hurts this year is a passer is he doesn't have that like his two best options are number one guys on the outside that catch generally catch 50 50 balls like those aren't high percentage throws for the most part right.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: And when you've got a guy over the middle of the field that owns the middle of the field and you trust him between that eight to 12 yard break point which is so important.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes that comes in the form of a slot receiver who's a great player like Doug Baldwin for example for so long for Seattle's a great example of that right Doug would slap me if you heard me call him a slot receiver but that's what he was it was an amazing slot receiver.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: George Kittle and Titans like George Kittle own the middle of the field, and occasionally make explosive plays as well, and they are so valuable for a quarterback in an offense.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I keep going back to the Eagles, but one of the deficiencies of this offense, outside the fact that they can't run it, is they don't have someone that owns the middle of the field.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: The Bears have a couple guys that can do it, right?
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: They have two tight ends that are really good.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: Coast and level, and they're starting tight end, is a guy that is like a big threat as a past catcher.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: So not only does George check those boxes of like, hey, we can use him in past bro.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: They're not predictable offensively because he's so good in past protection.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's really good at holding the edge on the line of scrimmage in the run game and he can turn into a guy that can own the middle of the field for us.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't have a slot receiver or a tie in that can do that, your offense becomes very predictable and one-dimensional.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: Niners play them back the back this week too.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they got Colson Lovelin.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: That was one of the shocks earlier.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: The draft is that he got drafted and had to have a warrant.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: I have a warrant this week and then Colson.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Keep an eye.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_00]: So you say, wait, Niners have bears next week.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: They play the Colts this week and then they play the bears next week.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: So when the Niners play, you mentioned their struggles in stopping the run.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: When they play the bears, like something to keep an eye on is one of the things I love about Ben Johnson, it's one thing to commit to running the ball.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: So like what we're seeing in Miami
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like Mike McDonald's really good at drawing up scheme.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just, you don't just commit to running the ball with a very physical group of five offensive linemen and maybe a tie-in in the mix or sometimes even a fallback.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: You don't just say, hey, we're gonna be really good at running the ball and we're just gonna run inside outside zone and power.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like the NFL's come far too, like it's come a long way to the point where like that's not enough.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Scheme in the run game is incredibly important to having a dominant run game.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just personnel.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: And so what Ben Johnson has done is you remade that offensive line up for Hunt, especially the interior centers in both cars, Drew Domin, Joe Toney, I mean those guys are really important pieces.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: And if you watch the way they run the ball schematically and the different plays they have that lead to cutbacks and whatnot with DeAndre Swift and Manungai,
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: It really showed up against the Eagles.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really good defense with a really good front for.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: And they had the Eagles on their heels all game long, not because they were more physical.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: And they are very physical.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to take that away from them.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: But because of the way they draw up their scheme, these guys are like PhDs and run games, rather than just, hey, we run inside outside don't and power.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to make those work because we're physical.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the lead just doesn't work that way anymore.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what you've got to be worried about.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: If you're
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: If you're, if, if you're Robert Salle and you're running the defense for the Niners, you have to look at this and say, we have to be ready for a team to possibly outskim us as well as out physical us.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: And we've got to find a way to come back both of them.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: That's scary.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's the scary thought.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right, from Orange County where he loves, but you know, plus the loves when I guess loves, plus the love.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: I love when I guess love, plus the love.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: I love, plus the love.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: You came on you like it's, plus the sponsor.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: I got to find a way to make them one of our sponsors.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: I love what they do.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'll get the Adler brothers to go check out the season pod, S.C.D.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm guessing Puesto is a, their kniter's fan, so they might not be interested in jumping on ours, but their talk was amazing.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: which rotation you go to.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I won't normally pay that much for a taco, but when it's as good as that one, I'll pay that much for a while.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: Is that a man?
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: I can't tell if that's a man.
- 25:34[UNKNOWN]: Ha ha.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: The Orange County, Orange County.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: The Orange County.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: We have a couple of Orange County.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: And they're fantastic.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: All right, brother, it's great to see you, man.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks, guys.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: Can you hear the baby?
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I'm used to it, whatever.
