- 2:53In the first round of the NCAA College Football Playoff action,
- 2:57number 9 Alabama came back to knock off the Oklahoma Oklahoma
- 3:05Sooners after being down 17 to nothing, winning 34 to 24.
- 3:10It's only the second time a team has has.
- 3:14I'm sorry, it's only been the second time a team has been
- 3:19blown. Ace has blown a 17 point lead in
- 3:24college football in the College Football Playoff era, joining
- 3:282017 Chokelahoma, who blew a 24 to 7 lead to the Georgia
- 3:34Bulldogs in what could only be described as a defensive
- 3:39struggle #10 Miami beat #7 Texas A&M 2:50, the lowest scoring
- 3:45game in the in history of the College Football Playoff.
- 3:49Miami took the lead lead with 1:45 to go on a shovel pass from
- 3:55Carson Beck to Malachi Tony and then picked off Marcel Reed in
- 4:02the end zone to seal the win. The match ups featuring the
- 4:08Group of Five teams were both blowouts as #5 Oregon blew out
- 4:14#12 James Madison and #6 old Miss blew out #11 Tulane without
- 4:22you know who. Despite the big win, Oregon
- 4:25coach Dan Lanning was not pleased with the effort later in
- 4:29the game versus James Madison. The quarter the quarter final
- 4:34matchups will feature #10 Miami versus Ohio State in the Cotton
- 4:40Bowl #5 Oregon versus #4 Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl #9
- 4:47Alabama versus #1 Indiana in the Rose Bowl and number six Ole
- 4:53Miss versus #3 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
- 4:58What I would say about these games is I don't call them
- 5:00Chokelaho. It's Oklahoma, and I'm not
- 5:03surprised Alabama beat Oklahoma. Alabama when when playing at the
- 5:09top of the game, they have one of the best defenses in the
- 5:11country. You can see that they put a lot
- 5:13of pressure and they they've always put a lot of pressure on
- 5:16teams they match up against. They always get the best
- 5:19linebackers, the best defensive lineman.
- 5:21How many times have we seen a defensive lineman or a
- 5:24linebacker get drafted in the first round by the Alabama
- 5:27Crimson Tide? We see it all the time and they
- 5:29always have good corners as well.
- 5:31There's to me, Alabama is known for their school, is known to
- 5:34get defensive players, not known for the quarterback play, but
- 5:38the quarterback play obviously was better in the second-half of
- 5:43this game. And a lot of people thought
- 5:45Oklahoma, Oklahoma's going to run away with this game being up
- 5:4817 to nothing. But Oklahoma has been known
- 5:51many, many times as everybody calls him Chokelahoma to make
- 5:54mistakes at the tail end of the game and choke.
- 5:57And that's why people call him Chokelahoma.
- 5:58That's why West just calls them Chokelahoma.
- 6:01They just find a way to lose games, close games or even games
- 6:06that they're look like they're going to blow out teams.
- 6:08And and that's what happened in this game.
- 6:10Now, I, I know Speedy has his own take to this and I, I'd love
- 6:13to hear it, but I can tell you this right now I'm questioning
- 6:18Alabama and, and I could, I've been hearing stories from
- 6:22Alabama side that the coach might take that Michigan job.
- 6:25I, I don't know if that's a true story or if that is going to go
- 6:28that way. But if Alabama makes a run, they
- 6:31knock off Indiana this coming week and and he decides to leave
- 6:36to go to Michigan, I'd be, I'd be shocked, I'd be shocked on
- 6:39that speeding. Yeah, it doesn't seem like it.
- 6:42I think those were initial rumors at this point.
- 6:43I think that's what they were trying to push for when
- 6:45obviously they found out about the holster own Moore scandal a
- 6:49couple weeks ago. But I thought again that Alabama
- 6:52job, Alabama has the resources to be able to extend him as much
- 6:55as he wants. I don't think he has any ties
- 6:56with Michigan where he would do that.
- 6:59He's not from that area. So I highly doubt that was the
- 7:01case. As far as the actual game
- 7:03itself, yeah, you're it's a team that's Alabama different when
- 7:07they're always been known for defense and running game in the
- 7:09past. Now they're kind of transforming
- 7:10it into the receivers offense with some still some good
- 7:13defense, better than it were last year when they missed.
- 7:15Alabama's defense was shut down in the second.
- 7:17Half they were. And Oklahoma, you saw the same
- 7:20kind of same kind of collapse as you've seen in the past, too.
- 7:23Now, granted, those Oklahoma teams with Bob Stoops there and
- 7:25even with Lick and Riley there, we're never known for their
- 7:27defense. I always make fun of Big 12
- 7:29defenses just never doing anything.
- 7:31And hence why most of those teams don't win championships
- 7:34for a while. Have they ever won since our
- 7:35friend Jason White was on that team?
- 7:37But nevertheless, this was a Brent Venables LED defense that
- 7:40was very good throughout the year.
- 7:41I thought one of the best defenses among the playoff teams
- 7:44and special teams mistakes, bad field position, big plays that
- 7:47they allow cost them. And Oklahoma at home just really
- 7:51doesn't have that same home field advantage you once saw
- 7:54when they were in the Big 12 in Alabama.
- 7:56I was worried about them when it came to playing from behind,
- 7:59too, because of the way the Venables knows that style of
- 8:02offense they like to play. And Alabama just made better
- 8:05place. Ty Simpson I questioned at
- 8:06times, but made some good plays in that game, in their running
- 8:08game. Got it going in the second-half
- 8:09very well. I will say this also and and
- 8:12again, everybody keeps saying, well, that it's always a
- 8:15transition. Saban was more known for the
- 8:18running game and the defensive side of the ball.
- 8:20This is still a great Alabama defense.
- 8:23They were one of the the better defenses in the country this
- 8:26year. They were what top ten?
- 8:27They were definitely in the top ten.
- 8:28I I'm not sure I don't quote me on this, but they were
- 8:31definitely somewhere around the top ten this year and I I will I
- 8:36they are more offensively sound. You got a a coach that came from
- 8:39Washington that likes to run the offensive side and he likes to
- 8:43throw the ball and he likes to use that wide receiving card.
- 8:46Doones look at Roma. Doones look how successful he's
- 8:48been since he's come to to the NFL and he comes from that
- 8:51Washington offense. So I, and, and also there is a
- 8:55quarterback of quarterback that's looked pretty good over
- 8:58there in Atlanta who came from that Washington type of offense.
- 9:02So we all understand that, you know, when you have different
- 9:05coaches, you obviously play different styles, but Alabama
- 9:08has always been known to recruit great defensive players.
- 9:11I, I would believe that they have at least three, maybe even
- 9:154 guys that will be drafted in the first round on the defensive
- 9:18side of the ball. So I, I, you know, obviously I'm
- 9:22still learning a little bit more about what Alabama is with a new
- 9:26coach there. And he's only been there for two
- 9:28years and, and there was stories and I forget.
- 9:30What's the Alabama coach's name over there?
- 9:32Kaylin de Boer. De Boer, there was stories
- 9:35coming out over the last week, week and 1/2 that De Boer could
- 9:37take that job in Michigan. I think that's his alma mater.
- 9:40I'm not, I'm not sure yet, but I've heard that he would love
- 9:44that job and he he would take that job, but would he leave
- 9:47Alabama? Would he leave the Crimson Tide
- 9:48after taking over for a guy like Nick Saban and, and Saban, There
- 9:53were stories coming out that Saban was interviewing for the
- 9:55LSU job and would, would Saban come back and coach Michigan?
- 9:59I, I mean, I, you know, when you're a coach and you're
- 10:02winning, coaching you, you love that football life.
- 10:06And I, I get, I'm not a coach. So I don't know how these guys
- 10:09think you would think that and fish as a coach, you would think
- 10:13that if you have the opportunity to coach your alma motto, you or
- 10:16you get to coach over there. Michigan, A-Team that's won a
- 10:19national championship a couple of years ago and it's always a
- 10:22school in the runnings for a championship.
- 10:25And, and I'm not saying Alabama isn't because Alabama has been
- 10:28the most successful school when Nick Saban was there and even
- 10:31been so successful over the years before Nick Saban took
- 10:35over the, the, the team in the program.
- 10:37But I, I look at De Boer, why wouldn't De Boer look at
- 10:41Michigan as an opportunity for him to take over and and make a
- 10:45run and win a national champion? He's got to win one with Alabama
- 10:47first. He hasn't done that yet.
- 10:49And he's been to a, he's been to a NCAA championship over there
- 10:53with Washington. But I think that's the only
- 10:56reason why he wouldn't leave Alabama is because he hasn't won
- 10:591 yet with Alabama. But being that this job is open,
- 11:02why wouldn't you interview for the job and see what you can get
- 11:04paid or the opportunities you have with the the portal and how
- 11:07much money you can get for the portal.
- 11:09You see Ole Miss, Ole Miss getting over the hump.
- 11:12You saw what, what, what just happened.
- 11:13Ole Miss did it with a defensive coordinator, has never had
- 11:16coaching experience and doing what what they did in this, in
- 11:21this game, very impressive. I was very impressed.
- 11:25A lot of people thought Tulane was going to win because of a
- 11:29rookie coach, a guy that taking over for Elaine Kiffin, who's
- 11:32not there and they put up, they put up 51 points against a
- 11:35Tulane team that's been very good all around all season long
- 11:39defensively and offensively. So I was shocked that they
- 11:44pulled away the way they did against.
- 11:45Tulane Speedy. Yeah, it's one of those Tulane
- 11:48teams that's always going to play physical.
- 11:49That's why I was mocking the CBS Sports analyst a few weeks ago
- 11:52that was saying, oh, it's a safety hazard to have these two
- 11:55group of five teams in the tournament.
- 11:56This is a really good defense in an offensive in a conference
- 11:58that's more known for their offensive teams and they play
- 12:02great. I just didn't know if they had
- 12:03the offensive capabilities to go into a tough environment like
- 12:06Ole Miss. By the way, we've heard what's
- 12:08that smell that that graphic that they had on the scoreboard
- 12:11was horrible. But nevertheless, they it was a
- 12:13tough environment, SEC crowd that they were not used to.
- 12:15And also a team in Ole Miss that destroyed Tulane earlier in the
- 12:18year, even with Lane Kevin too. But you got to give them credit
- 12:20for the adversity that they had just Ole Miss again rallying
- 12:23around their coach, rallying around a familiar system that
- 12:25made it work. And again, they did what they
- 12:26were supposed to do against a group of five team destroyed
- 12:28them. Now they get to take on Georgia.
- 12:30Next will be a big test for them against Kirby smarter two time
- 12:33championship coach. But Ole Miss definitely has the
- 12:35defensive capabilities. We'll see if they definitely
- 12:37we'll see if they have the offensive capabilities to extend
- 12:39They do it with obviously without lean given.
- 12:40That'll be the bigger test. And everybody wanted to see
- 12:42Carlson back. Everybody wanted to see Carlson
- 12:45back. And, and I think that's the
- 12:47reason why they pulled away and that why they made this
- 12:49tournament. And I, I really do believe that
- 12:52if Texas was any good in the beginning of the season, I think
- 12:54Texas with Arch Manning, the way he played in the final three or
- 12:57four games, I think Texas sneaks into this this playoff.
- 13:01But Carlson back is a guy that is expected to be maybe a late
- 13:05first round draft pick. Now that seller has decided to
- 13:08go back to college, Definitely a second round talent.
- 13:11Teams will be definitely look at him in a second round if he
- 13:14becomes available in this year's draft, which is it has been said
- 13:18that he's going into this, he's going to put himself in this
- 13:21year's draft after the season is over.
- 13:23But Miami, I'm not surprised with Miami.
- 13:26I, I was surprised that it happened the way he did, but I,
- 13:31I know why Miami's in the, in this tournament.
- 13:34I know why Miami, a lot of the, the voters and, and the, the
- 13:38board of the committee decided to put them in, was costing back
- 13:41in. And I, I will say this costing
- 13:43back at the end of the game showed you why a lot of people
- 13:46like this kid. And I again, I remember when he
- 13:48was playing for Georgia and he, he failed to do the things that
- 13:51he was supposed to do over there in Georgia.
- 13:53And that's why he jumped ship and he went into the portal and
- 13:56eventually found his way in Miami.
- 13:57But I you got to give the kid a little bit of credit.
- 14:00He did what he needed to do when he did it in the big game.
- 14:03Yeah, that's I think the difference when you look at a
- 14:04defensive duel now, I thought it would be a low scoring game
- 14:06because Texas A&M did have the best defense in the SEC this
- 14:09year. I think they were 4th or 5th
- 14:11overall in the nation. And Marcel Reed was playing very
- 14:14well probably up until the end of the season.
- 14:16But you that's the difference of adversity that you didn't see
- 14:18with Reed and then you saw with back, even though back then
- 14:21again in an overly good statistical game because nobody
- 14:23could move the ball in that game.
- 14:24But Miami at least moved it better because they were at
- 14:26least getting a field goal range.
- 14:27Their kicker, Mitch three times, that was the biggest factor of
- 14:30why they couldn't finish drives. They had to go for it more and
- 14:32forth them because they just did not trust that kicker.
- 14:35And Mario Cristobal's always been one of those coaches that's
- 14:37been questioned when he was at Oregon for winning those big
- 14:40games, winning those fourth quarters in the past.
- 14:42But somebody like Carson Beck, who has that kind of experience,
- 14:44he wasn't the quarterback of the Georgia Bulldogs starting when
- 14:47they won the championship, but he was there.
- 14:49So he knows that kind of pedigree is what's going to
- 14:51become. And their defense, Miami has
- 14:53been very strong throughout the ACC as well.
- 14:55So that kind of test at the end of the game is going to be
- 14:59something that Mario Cristobal and Carson Beck have compared to
- 15:03a young coach. And Mike Elko came from Duke,
- 15:05coached our guy Riley Leonard there and Duke.
- 15:07And this was the best team that they've had.
- 15:10They were a good team last year, but not good enough for the
- 15:12playoff. And now they made that big step
- 15:13with the talent that they have and all the money that they have
- 15:15with A&M, but just wasn't ready and read.
- 15:18I was, I was surprised that Texas A&M got knocked off the
- 15:21way they did. They had such a great season.
- 15:23At one point they were ranked in the top three in the country and
- 15:26what the final few weeks see, they fallen off.
- 15:29They lost against Texas and as soon as they lost against Texas,
- 15:32they lost their confidence and we're not the same team and and
- 15:35really fell all the way from top 2 to 7th rank going into and
- 15:40maybe if they were put in a better position, maybe they get
- 15:44into the second round of this tournament.
- 15:46I I just thought it was a bad match up for them.
- 15:48Yeah, Wesley even mentioned it too last week on let's parlay.
- 15:50Like the Texas A&M strength of schedule that you've seen in the
- 15:53past with like the SEC East versus the SEC West too, that
- 15:55they took away when they expanded the conferences too.
- 15:58Same kind of thing in the Big 10 with the Big 10 E and the Big 10
- 16:00W The Big 10 E always have a significantly stronger schedule.
- 16:03Yeah, I think you saw that that kind of adversity was not there
- 16:05for them playing against the team like Miami, that while they
- 16:08didn't play an amazing schedule, we talked about it when we were
- 16:10discussing did the College Football Committee get it right?
- 16:12They were still playing the 45th ranked schedule, Miami, and they
- 16:16still know how to punk tough with some good teams and they're
- 16:18beat Notre Dame and some other good teams this year.
- 16:21And you look at Texas A&M flashy, but still doesn't have
- 16:25that kind of sense of adversity yet.
- 16:26And that's where I think you saw the coaching definitely take
- 16:29over. Even though Chris Bull's been
- 16:30questionable in big games that he was, the defense was still
- 16:33able to do. I will say this, I love that
- 16:36Danny Lanning came out the way he did and and attacked his team
- 16:40because he's got a young quarterback that's probably
- 16:43going to go into this year's class who could be a top ten
- 16:45pick and Dante Moore, youth speedy think that he could be
- 16:49the best quarterback in his class.
- 16:51Yeah, if he's put in the right position.
- 16:52But it has a lot of learning to do and and the speed of the
- 16:56game. The NFL game is completely
- 16:57different than college football as we've gone back and forth and
- 17:00and talked about, but I love the fact that Dan Lanning after the
- 17:04game attacked his team attacked the way they played against a
- 17:07team that to me, they're just so much better than James Madison
- 17:10had a great year. Should they have made this
- 17:13tournament my my honest and my, my honest take and my perception
- 17:17to what I've seen with James Madison, whatever I saw this
- 17:19year, because I'm I don't watch college football religiously
- 17:23like you do Speedy or maybe fish or or Wes or any of these guys
- 17:27or even Jeff who comes on a show, but I watch it.
- 17:30I watched James Madison played a couple of times and to me
- 17:33they've been one of the more oppressive teams of the country
- 17:36because they come from a conference that is not has been
- 17:40known to be a great conference, but had such a great year and
- 17:44and matched up against teams that they completely dominated
- 17:47against. And that's why they they got
- 17:49into the tournament. But to be connected or even
- 17:53being compared to Oregon, I mean the Ducks are just that much
- 17:56better of a team coach, one of the best coaches in the country,
- 17:59a coach that I believe eventually will coach in the
- 18:02NFL. And and to me, one of the
- 18:04loudest and obnoxious coaches in the college football, but really
- 18:09shows it on the football field with the dominance in and the
- 18:12way Oregon football has been over the last couple of years.
- 18:15Yeah. It's one of those mistake.
- 18:17Definitely Landing is going to address those kind of things of
- 18:19the second, third quarter. Like I think once they had that
- 18:21kind of 28 point lead, I think they made a lot of sloppy
- 18:24mistakes. Their defense was giving him too
- 18:25much space. Dante Moore, I do think he can
- 18:28be the best quarterback in this draft class, but he also made
- 18:31some really bad interceptions to make it look like he's Jameis
- 18:33Winston as well. And that kind of thing won't
- 18:35translate. That's why I, whoever drafts
- 18:37Dante Moore can't start him right away because I think
- 18:39there's still those kinds of mistakes lingering.
- 18:41And if they're playing next, they're playing Texas Tech, who
- 18:43I know. No, Jet fans, we do not want
- 18:46Dante Moore. You have to be careful.
- 18:48You cannot start him right away. You have to do maybe even longer
- 18:51than what the Patriots did last year with Drake May, if you do
- 18:53start him, whether it's the Raiders, whether it's The Jets,
- 18:55Arizona, whoever drafts. I can see Cleveland doing it cuz
- 18:58that's very Cleveland. Oh yeah, I'm not.
- 19:00Disputed that Cleveland esque you could see them at #2 they
- 19:04have, they have a chance cuz Shador Sanders is not the guy.
- 19:07I don't know. And I I'd be very surprised if
- 19:10Cleveland drafts a quarterback wherever they land.
- 19:13Right now they're at three. If Cleveland goes after a
- 19:16quarterback and they draft Dante Moore, it's like a head shaker
- 19:19because you don't understand Dante, Deshaun Watson is there
- 19:24and you have Shidor Sanders and you did you dread, you drafted
- 19:27Gabriel in the fourth round. You have 3 quarterbacks that are
- 19:30going to be on the roster next year and then you bring in Dante
- 19:33Moore. How does this make sense?
- 19:35And you know, Shidor is not going to help him in, in this
- 19:38kind of offense. And you know, this to me is one
- 19:40of the harder, harder offenses to learn in the NFL.
- 19:44And then Deshaun Watson, he's training.
- 19:46He he's out there trying to teach Shidor and and Gabriel.
- 19:50He's going to come out there and try to teach Dante Moore, three
- 19:53guys that could take the job away from him.
- 19:55I don't see that happening. I see Cleveland either trading
- 19:58out of that spot or deciding to do something with Deshawn.
- 20:03I don't know what Cleveland does, but if they go
- 20:05quarterback, you know how stupid that organization is if they do
- 20:09that so. The only way that more comes out
- 20:12this year, in my opinion, is if they go on a run and win the
- 20:14championship or he plays really well in the championship game
- 20:17and they lose. I, I don't think it makes sense
- 20:19for him to come out unless he's going to be #1 and I don't think
- 20:22he is. I think he's talented enough to
- 20:25be #1 next year. Now he's not Anthony Richardson,
- 20:27like he's a complete mess and he drafted #5 and you can't play
- 20:31him or anything like that. He's never going to be able to
- 20:33play in the league. He's definitely going to.
- 20:35He just needs to sit. He reminds me more of like a
- 20:37Jordan love where you had, you want to sit him a little bit
- 20:40because he hasn't had enough reps in college yet.
- 20:43And he makes some of those boneheaded plays, you know, like
- 20:46Sam Darnell needed an extra year in college, Mark Sanchez needed
- 20:49an extra year in college. And you know, you have sometimes
- 20:51you get those types of boneheaded places.
- 20:53You didn't have enough reps. You didn't learn it when you had
- 20:55lower stakes in college, even though it's really high stakes
- 20:58every week, but it's low stakes when you're up 50 points.
- 21:01Planning obviously doesn't want them to develop bad habits going
- 21:04into a real competition next week, you know, against Texas
- 21:07Tech. No, it'll be a big problem for.
- 21:09Them and Texas Tech is a Big 12 team that's had a good defense
- 21:12this year too. And Oregon, like I was saying
- 21:15with Texas A&M, they didn't face Ohio State.
- 21:18They didn't face, well, they did face Penn State, but they
- 21:20weren't as good. They didn't face the strength of
- 21:22the Big 10 competition that you saw them face last year when
- 21:24they went undefeated. Now granted, obviously they
- 21:26lost. They got smoked by Ohio State in
- 21:27the first round of the College Football Playoff last year as
- 21:29the one seed, but it's not the same level at the Oregon defense
- 21:34can play as badly as they did too in the second-half when they
- 21:36were just letting JMU back in the game.
- 21:38JMU covered the spread A7, a 21 1/2 point spread.
- 21:41They actually covered it because Oregon got soft and Dante
- 21:44anymore we're just making some bad mistakes.
- 21:45And again, I don't know if he has to sit out the whole season
- 21:47if he if he gets drafted that early in the draft, but at least
- 21:50have him sit at least half of the season because I do think he
- 21:52has better some some better traits than Anthony Richardson.
- 21:54But he didn't play long enough. He was a five star recruit the
- 21:57same year as Arch Manning and a lot of people thought he was
- 22:00going to be better than him, but he never played at UCL.
- 22:02AI was, I was shocked that Ole Miss did what they did against
- 22:05Tulane and they just completely dominated.
- 22:07It was not even close. And you got to give him a little
- 22:10bit of credit. They used 2 quarterbacks in the
- 22:12game and Chambliss, I don't know much about him, but he, his
- 22:17completion percentage was pretty good.
- 22:19I think his quarterback rating was at 172, which is ridiculous.
- 22:22And he and he only threw 11 touchdown pass, but he ran the
- 22:27ball very well. He's a multi.
- 22:29He ran, he rushed for two yards, 2 touchdowns.
- 22:32So he did everything right. And I was very impressed with
- 22:35the coaching and the coaching staff because you lost all your
- 22:38coaches, what, 2 weeks before or a week before.
- 22:42And then you go into a game and a playoff where you're playing a
- 22:45team that has their coach who's leaving for Florida at the end
- 22:49of after this run and did what they did and completely
- 22:52dominated the way they did. I I was very impressed with old
- 22:55miss and, and you got to give the like I said, you got to give
- 22:58the quarterback play and the coaching set and the running
- 23:00game because the running they ran all over to lane in that
- 23:04game. I was going to say Kawan Lacey
- 23:05will be a running back to watch for next year's draft.
- 23:08He's not eligible this year, but the way that Jeremiah Love is
- 23:11getting a lot of hype this year with.
- 23:12Is he related to Eddie Lacey? No, but he might be related to
- 23:16the LSU guy that passed away. I think that's right.
- 23:19I believe that is his brother. I'm pretty.
- 23:21Sure. I'm pretty sure they are
- 23:23related. I don't think he's related to
- 23:25Eddie Lacey though. Eddie Lacy had that one grade a
- 23:27year and then all of a sudden decided to eat too much, which
- 23:29didn't bow well for his NFL career.
- 23:31No, but. Eddie Lacy cost me a bunch of
- 23:33money. Yeah, I remember Green Bay
- 23:35Packers. I remember when everyone wanted
- 23:37to take him in the top five that one year as a fantasy running
- 23:39back, and I thought there was nuts.
- 23:41I know a lot of people over there that are Green Bay Packer
- 23:45fans, AKA Jamie Lee that has his own thoughts to Eddie.
- 23:48Lacey. What do you thought?
- 23:50What do they call? Him.
- 23:51Cheeseburger Eddie. Cheeseburger Eddie.
- 23:53They call him Bassy or. Fatsy dude couldn't keep the
- 23:57weight off or else he could have been a great power back for a
- 24:00long time. But you know who had the best
- 24:02time and the easiest job and made the most money this past
- 24:06weekend? Mr. Lane Kiffin, who got to
- 24:09collect a $250,000 bonus from LSU for Ole Miss, beating Tulane
- 24:17in the first round of the college football.
- 24:19Player he just. Said who's better than him?
- 24:22What a great job of sitting there and watching people clean
- 24:26up his mess and win him 1/4 of $1,000,000.
- 24:30That is insanity. But that's Lane Kiffin.
- 24:34What a what a bag that he gets to steal from that.
- 24:37That's that's incredible of all time maneuvers.
- 24:40It's way up there and I don't gets a half a million if they
- 24:43win this next game. I ran view.
- 24:46That's, you know, I think the Nithin drops are quite
- 24:49appropriate for Mr. Kiffin. Suck my indo.
- 24:51Yeah, and, and by the way, now you're going into a week or the
- 24:55next week and a half of great football and, and the matchups
- 24:59are right there for you. Miami versus Ohio State or Ohio
- 25:03State, who's to me has been the best team in the nation all
- 25:06season long. They have the running game, they
- 25:09have the wide receivers, they have the defense, They have one
- 25:11of the. They have three guys that could
- 25:13actually be first round talents in this year's.
- 25:17I mean, you're talking about the Buckeyes, who to me is still, I
- 25:21believe besides what Vegas believes is the favorites to
- 25:25coming out and winning the whole national championship.
- 25:27And they're matched up against Miami and Carlson Beck.
- 25:30Could you imagine Carlson Beck and Miami and the Hurricanes
- 25:33knock off the almighty Ohio State Buckeyes?
- 25:37Yeah. They're going to have to do a
- 25:38lot better offensively than they did.
- 25:39It gets Texas A and. M you got, you heard, you kind
- 25:41of see what I got that from Bruce Almighty.
- 25:44Almighty, you got that? And My Miami.
- 25:47Movie filmed in Buffalo and I was in college there.
- 25:49Oh wow, go. Ahead, Speedy, yeah, I was going
- 25:51to say Miami's offense definitely has enough
- 25:53capabilities with their tight end play with their with
- 25:55somebody like Malachi Tony who's been a dynamic receiver this
- 25:58year to go up against that kind of Ohio State second year.
- 26:00They're going to have to get creative conceptually.
- 26:02We've seen Cristobal has coached well against Ryan Day in the
- 26:06past, Oregon to beat Ohio State in 2021 and then they played
- 26:09him. They played him close in Oregon
- 26:11the following year. They did kind of a home and home
- 26:13type thing. So it'll be interesting to see
- 26:15if those types of concepts that he had in Oregon will carry over
- 26:17because Ohio State, they did not look good the last couple games
- 26:21on offense against Michigan, even though they scored 30
- 26:24something. I think you can't.
- 26:25Worry about that. This is now you're going into
- 26:27the tournament, they had a week off, they're getting healthy,
- 26:31they're very well coached. I'm not a big fan of Day as
- 26:34everybody knows that listens to the show, but he's a very good
- 26:37coach and he understands how to to get to the quarterback and
- 26:41get into the mind of the opposing quarterback.
- 26:45And Carson backs back. Anybody that watches him play
- 26:49has watched him over the years in college for Georgia and now
- 26:52Miami. Once you get into this guy's
- 26:54head and you you get into his emotion and, and get, you know,
- 26:58get into the lanes where he's throwing the ball and putting
- 27:00the ball in the positions where he's uncomfortable.
- 27:02That's when he's not the quarterback that everybody
- 27:05thought he was going to be when he came out as a top recruit in
- 27:09college when he when he went to Georgia.
- 27:11So I I think that Ohio could put a lot of pressure on him.
- 27:14They can use a lot of different blitz packages and their corner
- 27:18play. They have some of the best
- 27:19secondary in in the nation. Downs who's one of the best
- 27:22safeties in in the world. It might be the best safety
- 27:25we've seen in the last 10 years come out of college.
- 27:27I know you you Giant fans would love to see him playing for the
- 27:30Giants next year, but. Oh man, please trade back.
- 27:34Give me downs that like at 10 or wherever they can get him.
- 27:38You know, in the hot, the low tweens or whatever it is, that
- 27:41guy is like Ed Reed next generation.
- 27:45Give me that guy right now. I don't know.
- 27:49I personally think that Ohio State is going to win that game
- 27:53by about 35. Points.
- 27:54I think so too. I think that I love what
- 27:58Patricia's done with that defense.
- 28:00He's coaching a professional defense and they have
- 28:04Scientology Scientific. Mathematical rockets that he is
- 28:08planning to draw up in his back pocket.
- 28:11I mean, that guy is an idiot. I, I mean anybody.
- 28:15I'm going to tell you, you Giant fans, if Patricia is one of
- 28:17those guys cuz I saw the list of guys that the Giants could be
- 28:21interviewing. Careful, there's been a bunch of
- 28:23college coaches that became politicians and announced you.
- 28:26Do not want Matt Patricia as your coach.
- 28:30I don't want him to be a head coach at all for my team.
- 28:33I don't like that. But as a defensive coordinator,
- 28:36he does more at the college level than most people are
- 28:40doing, and I think that's not a great recipe for Carson Beck.
- 28:44Plus they're going to out athlete probably everyone except
- 28:47for Tony on that team. In my opinion, they're in a lot
- 28:51of trouble. I think against Ohio State, I
- 28:54don't see it being close. You know what's so funny?
- 28:56We think that way, and then something crazy happens and the
- 29:00game's a lot closer than people believe it could be.
- 29:03I do believe Ohio State should run away with this game, but I
- 29:06wouldn't be surprised if Carson Beck figures out, you know,
- 29:09certain strategies that they're going to use.
- 29:11Cristobal does something interesting.
- 29:13I mean, that's the thing that I'm interested in.
- 29:14Speedy you know Cristobal has had success first then before
- 29:19it's just a different squad. It's AI don't think they have
- 29:22the same level of athlete and the problem when you have and
- 29:25you know this is what James Madison and Tulane had problems
- 29:28with too. You can call great place and
- 29:32this time my football team in in high school we were playing a
- 29:34kid that was 150 lbs like right tackle just didn't have anybody
- 29:38else. It was fast and we were able to
- 29:39do but when we get when he get went against the kid who had the
- 29:42real size, just like the James Madison Tulane athletes are
- 29:47facing when they go against Ohio State, go against, you know,
- 29:52Oregon. Oregon scored on their first
- 29:53five possessions. It was not a competition.
- 29:56They just kind of let them back in because they were playing as
- 29:59Wes always says, they were toying with their food or they
- 30:01were playing with their food. Yes.
- 30:02What, playing with their food because it was boring to them,
- 30:06because they were such better athletes.
- 30:08It was like they may as well have been in FCS school trying
- 30:11to play against them. You're just not strong enough to
- 30:14execute the blocks, to execute your plays, to be able to give
- 30:18the quarterback enough time to see downfield.
- 30:21You know, look at Notre Dame and BYU right now, Errol, they are
- 30:24pretty pissed off about not being in.
- 30:26And I think it's pretty obvious those two teams would have fared
- 30:29better than those Tulane and James Madison squads.
- 30:31I, I will say this about Oregon and I like Dan Lanning coming
- 30:35out and saying what he said and maybe this this week in
- 30:38practice, he's going to be working on some of the mistakes
- 30:40that they made, especially in the second-half.
- 30:43Defensively, Oregon needs to come out strong against Texas
- 30:46Tech. They're they can play defense
- 30:49and they have a good offensive game.
- 30:50They like to run the ball and they like to control the clock.
- 30:53If, if Oregon can't control the game offensively as as as they
- 30:58did early in the game in, in, in their last game, who did that?
- 31:03I'm sorry, I'm, I'm trying to bring it up.
- 31:05Oregon play JMU, JMU, James Madison.
- 31:07Now James Madison is in Texas Tech Texas Tech has been one of
- 31:10the best teams in the country. And we know what Texas Tech can
- 31:13do and they've they've got some NFL players that are going to be
- 31:16in this year's class. But I expect that Oregon's going
- 31:20to have to come out strong and play at a high level against
- 31:24Texas Tech if they expect to win this game because a lot of
- 31:26people, including Vegas, has Texas Tech winning this game and
- 31:30running away with this. Yeah, they, but maybe besides
- 31:32Caleb Dowd, they might have the next best defensive player in
- 31:34the country, too. Jacob Rodriguez, a linebacker,
- 31:36has been unbelievable this year. He was actually, I think.
- 31:39I don't know, Errol, you were there.
- 31:40I know you had some of the numbers with the Heisman voting.
- 31:42Wasn't he like 6th or 7th in the overall Heisman voting?
- 31:45Yeah. I mean, like, that's how
- 31:46unbelievable of the year he had. Speedy.
- 31:48I'll take him on the Giants, too.
- 31:50You give me that guy 10 times a week, that guy is going to be
- 31:53good. And the Giants haven't had a
- 31:55good lineback in core since I guess what Armstead was on the.
- 31:59Pretty much. I've always advocated for the
- 32:02Giants, Josh, an inside linebacker, and they seem to
- 32:04never do it. Tonya Pierce was a good
- 32:06linebacker. Yeah, but you know, they they
- 32:09got him in the offseason one year and he was really only
- 32:11there for like, like what, 3-4 years, right, Right.
- 32:13And then they've just so I mean, they've.
- 32:15Had trouble. They haven't had a dude since.
- 32:16Then they just have it like they never draft him high.
- 32:18I mean, it's not a position you draft high as much anymore, but
- 32:21still like somebody like Rodriguez, like, yeah,
- 32:24definitely would be a. Nice.
- 32:24I mean, you think about those Giants 80s teams that Belichick
- 32:27was coaching, that defense of were like kind of.
- 32:29Who's the kid that the Giants drafted from Penn State?
- 32:32He was our first round talent. Lamar Arrington.
- 32:34No, no, no. No.
- 32:36No, no, he was was part of the Super Bowl champions in 2007 and
- 32:402011. Kiwanuka.
- 32:42Kiwanuka. He was a linebacker.
- 32:44Penn State. I think he came from Penn State
- 32:45if I'm not mistaken. Right.
- 32:47I don't remember if he was Penn State or not.
- 32:49I feel like I would. Have check out where Kiwanuka
- 32:51came from. I'm pretty sure it was Penn
- 32:53State. But, you know, regardless of
- 32:55what you're saying, like the, the, the Giants used to be like
- 32:57linebacker. You, you know, used to be, you
- 32:59had Lawrence Taylor at Boston College.
- 33:01Yeah. Seasons.
- 33:03You know, they they had that's right, Kunic, who was Boston
- 33:05College and it is something to it wasn't Kiwanuka's like
- 33:09father, like the first president of Uganda.
- 33:12And I remember Kiwanuka, he was a great player for the Giants,
- 33:15especially in the run game, clogged up that he long could do
- 33:19things. I mean, he's like a.
- 33:19Tweener, you know, they struggled early in his career to
- 33:22figure out what to do with him because of how the game was
- 33:25changing today. He'd be just a linebacker would
- 33:27be fine or actually be at the end and it'd be fine like a rush
- 33:30end. But back then, you know, you
- 33:32were playing more off the ball at that size, so he just didn't
- 33:35really have a spot. So he kind of rotated in.
- 33:38He was more of a rotation. He was a Rover type linebacker,
- 33:40like he played a played versatile spots in all spots of
- 33:44Spagnola's defense and then when Spagnola left he mostly played
- 33:46at and at that. Point.
- 33:47It didn't matter. Kiwanuka was a good player for
- 33:49the Giants. It didn't matter who the
- 33:50offensive, offensive, defensive coordinator was and who and
- 33:55whoever he was playing against. Kiwanuka did a lot of things
- 33:58great for the Giants and when you talk about those
- 34:00championship teams with Michael Strahan or even Justin, talk
- 34:04Kiwanuka, OCU Mayor, they always had a great defensive line and
- 34:07you were talking about the Texas Tech kid he's going to have.
- 34:10The Giants are going to have their choice on who they want to
- 34:14draft, if they want to draft down or if they want to stay pat
- 34:17where they are in and go after whatever player they think is
- 34:20going to be sitting there at 1 or maybe falling.
- 34:23If they beat, if they beat Las Vegas next week, they could fall
- 34:26from one to 6th just as quick. So I it's crazy to see that one
- 34:31team jump from one one spot to another that bad.
- 34:34If they win next week against Las Vegas and and there's a very
- 34:38good chance they beat Las Vegas because Las Vegas looks like
- 34:40they've been choking. Gentie had his best game the
- 34:43other day and they still didn't win.
- 34:45So it just tells you how bad. And Pete Carroll tried very hard
- 34:49to win that game, calling timeouts at the tail end of the
- 34:51game and couldn't stop a lick, couldn't stop the running game.
- 34:54So it was just embarrassing. Speaking of of an embarrassing
- 34:58game, Georgia, the Bulldogs versus Ole Miss.
- 35:00I cannot see Ole Miss winning this game.
- 35:03Georgia, first of all, they have one of the best defensive minds
- 35:06in college football over there in Georgia.
- 35:09This defense is as good as any defense in the country.
- 35:12Every year they have some of the top players and and stop top
- 35:15recruits and they can run the ball.
- 35:18They can do it as good as anybody in the nation.
- 35:21I expect Georgia to fall to go right into the semi.
- 35:24I wouldn't be surprised if the Bulldogs make it all the way to
- 35:27the finals. They're that good.
- 35:28They're very well built and they've they always have a good
- 35:31high recruiting class as Preston carries is heading Preston
- 35:35carries heading there this coming offseason as well.
- 35:37So I expect the Bulldogs to knock off Ole Miss and not just
- 35:41knock them off completely murder them in in this game.
- 35:45Yeah, it's interesting because Ole Miss was with with Lane
- 35:48Kiffin. They're having the offensive
- 35:50prowess. I thought maybe had a shot
- 35:51because George's offense has been very, very streaky.
- 35:53This. Year, they didn't have a chance.
- 35:54Donner Stockton has been kind of a streaky quarterback in his
- 35:57first year as a starter after obviously Beck transferred to
- 35:59Miami. But this running game has been
- 36:01still very strong. You got a guy like Nate Frazier.
- 36:03Robinson's been pretty good too, and they have a. 3 headed
- 36:06monster over there in Georgia. And you kind of seen saw that
- 36:08the way they built up with that 2017 too, when they had 17 team,
- 36:12when they had Michelle and they had Nick Chubb.
- 36:15It kind of reminds me of. That Chubb was the only one that
- 36:17actually panned out, yeah. Well, in the NFL standard, yeah,
- 36:19Bill Belichick wanted Bill Belichick's last first round
- 36:21picks, and so did Michelle as well.
- 36:23Horrible. Yeah, but you look at that kind
- 36:26of. Team he did win a Super Bowl.
- 36:27He did actually. He played well in the Super Bowl
- 36:29too with the with the Patriots when they beat the Rams.
- 36:31But nevertheless not he retired early for a reason, but
- 36:35nevertheless, this is an offensive line, this is a
- 36:37defense. This is still something you can
- 36:38win with in college football and being old school too.
- 36:41They won a championship, They won two.
- 36:42Michigan won that same kind of way.
- 36:43Obviously they cheated, which didn't help, but you could still
- 36:45win. With that came same kind of
- 36:46style in Ohio State. Even though they had a passing
- 36:49attack that was lethal, they still had a running game and an
- 36:51offensive line that was lethal first, and they just brought it
- 36:54a transfer quarterback and Will Howard.
- 36:55So George is trying the same kind of system with their
- 36:57freshmen. We'll see if they do it.
- 36:58And they have an all world offensive line.
- 36:59They always do, always do. And and again, another school
- 37:03that always has good defense and good defensive lineman and good
- 37:06offensive lineman. And like I said, if you have a
- 37:09good running game, you have to have a good offensive line.
- 37:11And like I said, they have a three headed monster.
- 37:13They can use their running backs and they've done it multiple
- 37:16times where they have two running backs on the football
- 37:19field, either a catch 1 catch in the ball and 1 running the ball,
- 37:22one blocking for the other guy in the open field.
- 37:25The the, the Bulldogs I I think are so unique because they could
- 37:29do so many things. They can rotate the they can
- 37:31rotate their talent and they also always find and recruit
- 37:36good tight ends. Go look at the tight ends
- 37:38they've brought in. One of them is doing pretty well
- 37:40with Vegas right now. We all know what Brock Powers is
- 37:43and they have two good ones right now.
- 37:46One one that's I think a freshman and another one that's
- 37:49a sophomore this year. No, they do a lot even at the
- 37:52goal line, a lot of two. Tight ends, they're really good
- 37:54offensively. I expect Georgia to run all over
- 37:57Old Mess. I can't see even with Lane
- 38:00Kiffin there, I couldn't see Lane Kiffin knocking off the
- 38:02Georgia Bulldogs. I, I think out of all the teams
- 38:05that are still in this, I know I'm, I'm rooting for Indiana,
- 38:09but I, I know a lot of people think Alabama is going to upset
- 38:12Indiana. We'll get into that in just one
- 38:13second. I think Georgia has the easiest
- 38:17way to the finals. If they knock off Old Mess I
- 38:20think they have the easiest way to the finals to whoever they
- 38:23matched up against so. I just think Georgia and Ohio
- 38:27State, you know, outside of their loss to Indiana, which
- 38:30again, the kicker missed the chip shot field goal, the game
- 38:33should have went to overtime. Who knows what would have
- 38:35happened. Those teams were evenly matched
- 38:37in power to Indiana. I just think if you play that
- 38:40game 10 times, I think Ohio State wins more than five of
- 38:43them. And I think Ohio State and
- 38:45Georgia are the two best teams in America.
- 38:48And I and Ohio State lost Indiana.
- 38:51Like we just said, Georgia lost Alabama, then smoked Alabama in
- 38:54the in the SEC Championship game 28 to 7.
- 38:57Kirby Smart. I they learn from their
- 39:00mistakes. Old miss beat a team that they
- 39:03already beat. Even if the coaching staff was
- 39:05was gone. They have the film on what they
- 39:08already did. You know that wasn't a hard redo
- 39:11for them. That's like it.
- 39:13Coaches like like Dream. Oh, I have the script that
- 39:16worked already. I just have to put some wrinkles
- 39:18into it. We'll be just fine.
- 39:20Now you face Georgia without half the coaching staff.
- 39:24Kirby Smarts. Going to give them something
- 39:26they're not ready for. I think it's going to be ugly.
- 39:29I think it's going to be over pretty quickly.
- 39:31It's going to be fun to watch. It's going to be.
- 39:33Fun to know how the bracket goes, but is it possible
- 39:36everybody, Ohio State and Georgia get to the finals or?
- 39:39No, no, they would play. They would play in the semi
- 39:41finals. So they would.
- 39:42Play that's a shame, but that would be a crazy I crazy semi.
- 39:46What I what I've been reading and what people have been saying
- 39:48to me is Georgia, if they knock off old Miss, they have the
- 39:51easiest route to the finals. So I didn't know they they were
- 39:54matched up against. If they got to go through Ohio
- 39:56State. Yeah, they don't.
- 39:57Receive. That's a problem.
- 39:58They don't receive. That's going to be a great game
- 40:00for that. Those are the two best teams.
- 40:03Indiana or Alabama, whoever wins that game plays Oregon or Texas
- 40:06Tech and then Miami or Ohio State plays Ole Mr. Georgia.
- 40:09All right. And then there's I wanted to
- 40:11save the the the number one Indiana Hoosiers as the final
- 40:16conversation that we're going to have.
- 40:18And Fernando Mendoza, who is the Heisman Trophy winner versus
- 40:22Alabama and Alabama team that's won how many national
- 40:25championships in the last 12 years?
- 40:28And that's six. And this isn't Nick Saban.
- 40:30This is the boar's defense. And this is going to be an
- 40:34offensively, this is going to be an offensive game.
- 40:36I think they're both going to go at one another.
- 40:38The question is who you know at the end of the game.
- 40:41And we've seen the the heroics of Fernando Mendoza and what he
- 40:46can do at the end of the games. If does this come down to one
- 40:49play at the end of the game that either can cost Indiana from
- 40:53winning a national championship and moving on and maybe possibly
- 40:56winning a national championship or falling short.
- 40:59And everybody talking about Mendoza being one of the more
- 41:02overrated Heisman Trophy winners that get knocked out as early as
- 41:06they did in this this football tournament.
- 41:08So I don't know. I like Mendoza.
- 41:10I thought he was a nice kid. Everybody's, if anybody hasn't
- 41:13read my take on on the Heisman and, and how I felt about the
- 41:16Heisman Trophy, the dinner and and the opportunity that I had
- 41:20over there to interview Mendoza. I thought he was a good kid.
- 41:23I think he fit very well here in New York.
- 41:25I think he's going to be a star in the NFL because of his
- 41:28personality. And I think he's, he's been, he,
- 41:31he was raised bright, his mom raised him, his father raised
- 41:33him right, right. And I, it just seems like he in
- 41:37the biggest game, he shows up. And you heard it from his coach
- 41:40at, at the meeting at the, at the dinner after Mendoza moved
- 41:44on with his trophy, we got a chance to ask some questions to
- 41:47the coach. And, and the coach said there
- 41:49was, there's just something about this kid at the end of the
- 41:51game when you want to put it in his hands or you want him to
- 41:54make a play at the end of the game, this kid always finds a
- 41:57way to make a play. And you could see the difference
- 42:00and you can see what he did. Remember, he coached James
- 42:02Madison and now he's coaching the number one Indiana Hoosiers
- 42:06for the first time in their existence.
- 42:08To be #1 and go into a tournament which is so wide open
- 42:14and with arguably the best quarterback in the nation.
- 42:17Some people don't believe that another quarterback believes he
- 42:20should have won and, and, and, and that the committee stole the
- 42:25Heisman away from him. I could say the same about
- 42:28Travis Hunter last year. I thought gently should have won
- 42:30the Heisman but a lot of questions on who should have won
- 42:34and and their arguments to it. But Indiana and Mendoza has a
- 42:38chance to make a run if they knock off Alabama.
- 42:40Like you said, speedy Georgia is matched off against Ohio, Ohio
- 42:45State in the next round. Then I guess Indiana has the
- 42:48easiest path all the way to the national championship.
- 42:51Yeah, they would play Oregon or Texas.
- 42:52Indiana was Oregon's only lost. I thought I thought that being a
- 42:57Georgia knocked off if Georgia, if Georgia knocks off old miss
- 43:01that they would be matched up against either Oregon or in or
- 43:05or Indiana. That's what I.
- 43:07They don't receive, it's like the NBA playoffs.
- 43:08They don't receive just based on who's the higher seed after
- 43:12that. So the two would automatically
- 43:13play the three, etcetera. That's why Notre Dame face Penn
- 43:15State six and seven. It's the same kind of thing if
- 43:18six and seven were in advance, but 7's out now, but it's to be
- 43:206 and 10. But nevertheless, this is
- 43:22interesting because I'm curious to see how Mendoza's great.
- 43:26Obviously, Indiana's running game, I'm curious how that's
- 43:28going to be because Alabama did a great job shutting down the
- 43:30run of Oklahoma last week. And that's a really good
- 43:32Oklahoma offensive line too. And then Elijah Serrat, their
- 43:35number one receiver against the Alabama secondary that like you
- 43:38mentioned, was very good throughout the year, top 10
- 43:40defense and played a lot of really good wide receiving
- 43:42course in that SEC. And Ryan Williams, a guy that
- 43:45Alabama has had a lot of really good flashes, but he's also
- 43:48disappeared a lot too. Can he play well enough to help
- 43:50out somebody like Ty Simpson? Because Alabama's running game
- 43:53and offensive line is still going to be pretty good in this
- 43:55game. But Indiana defense has been
- 43:57good at stopping the run as well.
- 43:58They did. That was a big reason they beat
- 43:59Ohio State. That was a big reason they've
- 44:00won a lot of these tight games at the end of the year where
- 44:03Indiana finally got tested. I'm curious to see though.
- 44:06This is where because it's New Year's.
- 44:08You're very curious today. I don't know.
- 44:10New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
- 44:11It's a long gap between the bowl games.
- 44:13How long that how much it'll test somebody like Kurt Signetti
- 44:17versus Caitlin Devore, who two years ago went to a national
- 44:19championship with Washington, beat a Texas team that was
- 44:21probably more talented than they were and they were able to game
- 44:25plan it. Will Signetti be able to counter
- 44:27that kind of thing against somebody like Alabama, even
- 44:29without Nick Saban with the boar selling a good coat and just as
- 44:32good of talent? You know this game might be for
- 44:35the first pick in the NFL draft this year.
- 44:38Between Mendoza and Simpson, there are a lot of scouts that
- 44:42love Simpson that have him rated as the top quarterback or had
- 44:46him at mid season rated as the top quarterback just because of
- 44:48the things he's able to do. He's got all of the arm talent.
- 44:53He sat, he was patient, he stayed with a program which is
- 44:57uncommon in the transfer portal days.
- 45:00And look at him now. You know, he's got his team into
- 45:03this position where he gets to play against the Heisman Trophy
- 45:07candidate, the winner. If he could beat the Heisman
- 45:10Trophy winner, how do you not consider him as possibly going
- 45:14over him in the draft? You'd have to think about it
- 45:17pretty hard. And I think we're going to start
- 45:19having that discussion a lot if they can somehow knock him off
- 45:23in this game. That said, I don't know if
- 45:26Indiana's going to lose to Alabama.
- 45:27I think Alabama is a beatable team.
- 45:29I think Kurt Zignetti is not somebody that you're going to
- 45:32you should doubt. He's proven it at every stop
- 45:35that he's been that he is a winner and not just a winner.
- 45:38A complete ass kicker in Indiana hasn't been good like ever, man.
- 45:43Like they're they haven't been good since the 1960s.
- 45:46What was it, 1967? They had a share of the Big 10
- 45:49title was the last time. This is a basketball school.
- 45:52This is Bobby Knight. This is what what this school
- 45:55is. This is not a football school
- 45:58and now just in two years he's been able to take this school to
- 46:02the to the number one seed heading into the College
- 46:05Football Playoff. He gets the bye.
- 46:07Unfortunately, Alabama was seeded pretty low this year and
- 46:11he gets probably a tougher matchup than most of the other
- 46:14teams this week. Oh well, let's see what he's
- 46:17got. I, I, I can't wait to see this
- 46:18one and I'm really curious to see one how Signetti plays
- 46:23against Simpson because I think he's going to try to throw a lot
- 46:25of stuff at him. I think he's the type of coach
- 46:28that is good at scheme and at building a program, which is not
- 46:33common. Most guys are good at one or the
- 46:35other. He might be really good at both.
- 46:37He just hasn't had an opportunity till he's 64.
- 46:39Look at him. He's 64 years old right now and
- 46:42he's only had, this is his first chance to play at, you know, at
- 46:45the big really at the big time, unless you can't consider James
- 46:48Madison the big time. I don't, even though they were
- 46:50in the College Football Playoff. Look at him now, this guy is
- 46:53going to be coach of the year. He's coached the year 2 years in
- 46:55a row. Yep, first time ever.
- 46:57Two years in a row. First time that's ever happened
- 47:00in this first two years at a big time school.
- 47:03That's like John Calipari in like basketball.
- 47:05Right. NFL teams might look at that, I
- 47:07mean, and think that he can coach in the NFL.
- 47:10Obviously the players drive to him and understand the way he
- 47:15coaches and he's, he seemed pretty down to earth when I was
- 47:18there at the press conference. He was very down to earth.
- 47:23All the players were there celebrating with Fernando
- 47:26Mendoza and you can see that they love him and they love the
- 47:29coach. As a matter of fact, during the
- 47:30press conference, while they were cheering and screaming for
- 47:33Mendoza, when when the coach went up there to speak to the
- 47:36media, the first thing the coach said, I enjoy this, enjoy the
- 47:40weekend because on Monday we're getting back to work and every
- 47:43single one of the players says you got a coach.
- 47:45They all said it. So you can see that they believe
- 47:49in him and they believe in the way he coaches and, and really
- 47:52drives the players to, to play at his pace.
- 47:54And, and you can see Mendoza even the way he speaks, the way
- 47:59he speaks highly of his teammates, he didn't say
- 48:03anything bad or offset to make you feel that he is not being
- 48:08coached right over there in Indiana.
- 48:10And, and you could see ever since he left and he jumped into
- 48:13the portal and went to Indiana, he's been a different
- 48:15quarterback. And I asked him and anybody and
- 48:18I, I still haven't cut it up and Speedy hasn't cut it up.
- 48:21My interview with Mendoza and one of the questions I asked, I
- 48:24said if you were to recruit somebody to come and play for
- 48:29Indiana football, how would you recruit him?
- 48:31And he laughed and he giggled at me and he looked at me and he
- 48:33said it's pretty simple. And he I said, what are you
- 48:36talking about? He said, well, it you can see,
- 48:40you can see the way I've transitioned as a player and the
- 48:43proofs in the pudding. You see the way Indiana football
- 48:46has transitioned ever since coaches come here from James
- 48:49Madison and you can see the way I have transitioned as a
- 48:53football player and as a player that understands the game of
- 48:56football under coach. And, and he says, I would tell
- 49:00anybody to come over here, come here and play for Indiana
- 49:04football. Because to be a Hoosier and
- 49:07understand what it is to be a Hoosier is what makes playing
- 49:11football and being a football player here and a leader here
- 49:14completely different for every, at any, any school ball or any
- 49:18place I played, including Miami. So it's he's a remarkable kid.
- 49:24And I think Mendoza understands what it is to be a, a young
- 49:29superstar in a, in a Heisman Trophy winner.
- 49:31And you can see by the way he worded everything, the way he he
- 49:34showed emotion at the press conference and, and just who he
- 49:38is as a person, as a teammate and, and how much he loves his
- 49:40coach and how every one of those players love their coach.
- 49:44I think they're going to play for their coach this coming
- 49:47weekend. Again, a very good, a very good
- 49:50team in Alabama. Thank you to all the fans tuning
- 49:52in and listening to us. Thank you to our very special
