Speaker 1: Purposely. Your life. God's purpose. Listen at Purposely.com. At the time,
• 0:15
Speaker 1: it just seemed like a whole lot of random things.
• 0:19
Speaker 1: Where my dad's work was, where we were living, what
• 0:21
Speaker 1: school I was going to, why we had to move
• 0:24
Speaker 1: again and again and then move again. None of it
• 0:28
Speaker 1: seemed to be part of a plan at all. It
• 0:31
Speaker 1: all seemed really random and a whole lot by accident.
• 0:35
Speaker 1: I'm Julie Lyles-Karr, and this is God on the Go,
• 0:37
Speaker 1: where we help you make the minutes matter when you're
• 0:39
Speaker 1: in the car, on the way to school, going to
• 0:41
Speaker 1: soccer practice, all the things. We're part of the Purposely
• 0:43
Speaker 1: Podcast Network. We are in a series of episodes right
• 0:46
Speaker 1: now where we're talking about you are worth it, the
• 0:50
Speaker 1: value that you and I have with God. Now, all
• 0:54
Speaker 1: of these events that were taking place, it wasn't always
• 0:58
Speaker 1: very much fun to Have you had to make a
• 1:00
Speaker 1: move with your family? Have you had to move across
• 1:02
Speaker 1: the country? Then you might know that it can be
• 1:04
Speaker 1: really hard. There can be great things that come out
• 1:07
Speaker 1: of it, but it can also be really difficult. And
• 1:09
Speaker 1: we were having to make a lot of those changes
• 1:11
Speaker 1: a lot. And I would tell you that at the time,
• 1:15
Speaker 1: it didn't seem like it was part of any bigger
• 1:18
Speaker 1: purpose at all. As a matter of fact, I kept thinking,
• 1:21
Speaker 1: why is God putting me through this? Why am I
• 1:24
Speaker 1: having to change schools again? Why am I going to
• 1:27
Speaker 1: have to leave these friends and try to make new
• 1:29
Speaker 1: friends again? But then over time, something really interesting happened
• 1:35
Speaker 1: in my own life. Through all of those things happening,
• 1:38
Speaker 1: it ultimately led me to decide when it was time
• 1:40
Speaker 1: for me to go to college, to go to a
• 1:42
Speaker 1: college I'd never considered before. But because of some of
• 1:46
Speaker 1: the moves that I had made, well, it was going
• 1:48
Speaker 1: to reunite me with some people who had meant a
• 1:51
Speaker 1: lot to me a couple of moves before. And so
• 1:54
Speaker 1: I ended up going to that college and guess what?
• 1:58
Speaker 1: That's where I met the guy that I would go
• 2:00
Speaker 1: on to marry, the guy who would be the dad
• 2:02
Speaker 1: of my kids, the guy that I would do life with.
• 2:06
Speaker 1: And when I met him, our lives had intersected in
• 2:10
Speaker 1: so many ways. And all of a sudden, all these
• 2:13
Speaker 1: things that had felt like they were just on accident,
• 2:15
Speaker 1: they were just random, I began to realize that God
• 2:19
Speaker 1: had a purpose in all of it. Paul's writing to
• 2:24
Speaker 1: the early church in Ephesus, and he writes these words
• 2:28
Speaker 1: in Ephesians 2.10,' For we are God's handiwork, created in
• 2:32
Speaker 1: Christ Jesus to do good works.' which God prepared in
• 2:35
Speaker 1: advance for us to do. Now, we don't often use
• 2:38
Speaker 1: that word, handiwork, right? You don't think about that word
• 2:41
Speaker 1: very often today. But it's a really interesting word in
• 2:45
Speaker 1: the original language of the Bible, and it's poema. Now,
• 2:49
Speaker 1: if that sounded like a word that you think you know,
• 2:51
Speaker 1: you're probably right. It's where we get the word for
• 2:53
Speaker 1: poem in our language today. A poem is a beautiful
• 2:58
Speaker 1: kind of writing that It sometimes rhymes, but it always
• 3:02
Speaker 1: seems to be able to talk about emotions and love
• 3:07
Speaker 1: and all kinds of things that it's just in this
• 3:09
Speaker 1: way that our hearts really recognize. You know, a lot
• 3:13
Speaker 1: of your favorite songs, well, really, they're poems. They're set
• 3:16
Speaker 1: to music, but they have a way in which they
• 3:18
Speaker 1: can talk about experiences that we have as human beings
• 3:22
Speaker 1: in a way that really connects with our hearts. Well,
• 3:26
Speaker 1: that word in that verse where it says we are
• 3:28
Speaker 1: God's handiwork, it means we are his poem. Now, think
• 3:32
Speaker 1: about it. If you took a whole bunch of words
• 3:34
Speaker 1: written on little slips of paper and you jumbled them
• 3:37
Speaker 1: up in a jar and you poured them out and
• 3:38
Speaker 1: opened them up and just put them in whatever order
• 3:40
Speaker 1: that they came out, well, that would seem kind of
• 3:43
Speaker 1: by accident, right? But if all those words actually made
• 3:46
Speaker 1: this beautiful poem that told this incredible story about a
• 3:51
Speaker 1: human life and how a human began to realize that
• 3:55
Speaker 1: they meant so much to God, that they had so
• 3:56
Speaker 1: much value to God, well, you would know that wasn't
• 3:59
Speaker 1: by accident. I mean, let's face it. If you take
• 4:02
Speaker 1: apart a really complex piece of a machine, like let's
• 4:06
Speaker 1: say that you took a look at your mom's coffee
• 4:08
Speaker 1: machine and it wasn't working and she let you take
• 4:10
Speaker 1: it apart and you looked at it. You would know
• 4:12
Speaker 1: that all those parts and pieces, they couldn't be there
• 4:15
Speaker 1: by accident. There had to be purpose behind why it
• 4:19
Speaker 1: even existed. Well, that's how you are for God. There
• 4:23
Speaker 1: are so many beautiful places throughout the Bible where God
• 4:25
Speaker 1: talks about that He has written your life, that He
• 4:30
Speaker 1: has done all these things on purpose that you would
• 4:34
Speaker 1: come to know Him. and that He has a special
• 4:36
Speaker 1: job for you, a special meaning for you while you
• 4:40
Speaker 1: are living this life. So for whatever is going on
• 4:44
Speaker 1: for you right now with your family and school, if
• 4:47
Speaker 1: there are things that are, you know, maybe not feeling
• 4:49
Speaker 1: so great, or maybe it's just feeling really random, or
• 4:52
Speaker 1: a whole bunch of things that just don't seem fair,
• 4:55
Speaker 1: like they shouldn't go together, please know this. You are
• 4:59
Speaker 1: not here by accident. You are here on purpose, and
• 5:04
Speaker 1: you are God's poem to the world. I want to
• 5:09
