Latest / Hutton & Withrow Show / Hutton & Withrow: MLB Playoff Format Is Broken, Derrick Henry vs. Titans & SEC Week 5 Picks | Hour 2
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It is Hutton and Withrow. We are presented by Hard
- 0:03Speaker 1: Rock Bet and through Sport and State, owned by Clay Travis.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Same thing with, you can tell, Clay Travis Law. Accidents
- 0:10Speaker 1: don't wait for great timing, one bad moment, a wreck,
- 0:12Speaker 1: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention, and suddenly
- 0:14Speaker 1: you're fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 0:17Speaker 1: And that's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a
- 0:20Speaker 1: Vanderbilt Law grad, and he built a firm around the
- 0:22Speaker 1: idea that people deserve someone willing to pay attention, ask
- 0:25Speaker 1: the hard questions, push back when things don't add up.
- 0:28Speaker 1: experienced trial attorneys on your side who bring the fight
- 0:31Speaker 1: to corporations and insurers based in Nashville, trusted across the country.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Car and truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability,
- 0:39Speaker 2: product liability. If you were wrong, they want to hear
- 0:41Speaker 2: about it. Here's what they promise.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Honesty.
- 0:43Speaker 2: They don't sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth,
- 0:45Speaker 2: not what you want to hear. Case evaluation is free.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It's a great charge.
- 0:50Speaker 2: No charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your
- 0:52Speaker 2: story and go to claytravislaw.com or call 877-222-4444.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That's claytravislaw.com. No case is too big or too small.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I've been told that multiple people have some Crockett coffee
- 1:08Speaker 1: to discuss. We'll have that later as well. Makes me
- 1:11Speaker 1: want to order some as well right now. Chad, my
- 1:14Speaker 1: wife is.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Actually delivering me a new cup of Crockett coffee as
- 1:17Speaker 2: we speak. What great timing. So I reach out to
- 1:20Speaker 2: get it. Here's the new cup. I'm going with a
- 1:23Speaker 2: dark roast today, fellas. And it's terrific.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It's fabuloso. That would be King Mountain, and it's David
- 1:30Speaker 1: Crockett for the record. Yes, yes. On this show.
- 1:33Speaker 2: On this show, it's David Crockett. We honor his God's
- 1:37Speaker 2: name and not Davey.
- 1:40Speaker 1: David Crockett. Chad, so Major League Baseball's got this weird schedule.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I asked Jason about it yesterday whenever he joined us
- 1:52Speaker 1: about the three games at home or whatever and the
- 1:55Speaker 1: scheduling where they don't want things to push much into November.
- 1:58Speaker 1: What do you make of it? And, I mean, what
- 2:01Speaker 1: a comeback, the way that game ended with Philly against Atlanta. Yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 2: So, look, here's what I make of it. And I
- 2:09Speaker 2: posted this. I want to read it because the response
- 2:12Speaker 2: to what I posted is amazing. I said, I will repeat.
- 2:15Speaker 2: This is something I've said on this show. I've said
- 2:17Speaker 2: it before. They play 162 games to decide division champs.
- 2:22Speaker 2: MLB cannot have a system in place where a division
- 2:26Speaker 2: champion season is is decided in a three-game series. The
- 2:31Speaker 2: MLB postseason format is broken. I firmly stand behind this. Now,
- 2:36Speaker 2: I post this while the Houston Astros are losing in
- 2:39Speaker 2: two games to the Chicago White Sox. So immediately, people
- 2:43Speaker 2: are like, F you. Astros suck. They didn't even deserve
- 2:47Speaker 2: to be in the playoffs. The Astros, Hutton, were 81-81.
- 2:50Speaker 2: They were 500, and they won a terrible AL West
- 2:52Speaker 2: this year as a 500 team, okay? I still believe
- 2:59Speaker 2: if you are the division champ, you should not play
- 3:02Speaker 2: in a round that is called the wildcard round. Wildcard round.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Try to follow the logic here, everybody, on what I'm saying.
- 3:10Speaker 2: The wildcard round. should feature wildcard teams. If you want
- 3:13Speaker 2: to make it, go back to a one-game playoff.
- 3:15Speaker 1: One-game deal. Wildcard teams.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Have some elevator format where you have two teams at
- 3:20Speaker 2: the bottom that play a one-game playoff. They go wait
- 3:23Speaker 2: a team that's waiting for them to play in a
- 3:25Speaker 2: three-game playoff. It's not going to take up that much
- 3:27Speaker 2: more time. And if we go into November, so be it.
- 3:29Speaker 2: If you need to start the season in late March,
- 3:33Speaker 2: a week early, go ahead and do that if you
- 3:35Speaker 2: need to.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Don't care. What I don't want to see is my
- 3:40Speaker 1: Atlanta Braves.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Who finished six games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 3:46Speaker 1: 26 games over.
- 3:48Speaker 3: 500.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Not a.
- 3:49Speaker 2: 500 team like the Houston Astros. To everyone online, by
- 3:52Speaker 2: the way, please, Brooks, by God, clip this. I am
- 3:56Speaker 2: a Braves fan.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I don't give a damn about the Houston Astros.
- 3:59Speaker 2: And that tweet was not in support of the Houston
- 4:02Speaker 2: Astros or their. 500 record that won them a division.
- 4:07Speaker 2: The Braves finished 26 games over. 500. They finished six
- 4:11Speaker 2: games ahead of the Phillies. This is a 162-game season.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Baseball is not meant to be decided in one game.
- 4:18Speaker 2: It's not meant to be decided in a three-game series.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Five games is stretching it. This is a sport built
- 4:25Speaker 2: for seven-game series to decide it. If you win four straight, great.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Tip your cap, shake their hand.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Move on, okay? This is BS.
- 4:35Speaker 2: The way the Braves are treated in this format, the
- 4:38Speaker 2: way other division champions are treated. No division champion, even
- 4:42Speaker 2: the Astros, should be forced to play in the wildcard round.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Major League Baseball, now they're about to have a lockout.
- 4:48Speaker 2: They need to tweak this and figure it out where
- 4:51Speaker 2: this isn't happening. And here is what people will say. Man,
- 4:55Speaker 2: I love postseason baseball. I love the drama it brings.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I love what it does. Here as a fan is
- 4:59Speaker 1: what I freaking hate, okay? Yep.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Three things in yesterday's game that just really bothers me.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Michael Harris, who is very fast, hit into three double
- 5:12Speaker 2: plays all season.
- 5:14Speaker 1: The dude hit into two yesterday.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Two. He almost doubled his season total after 162 games.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Two.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Awful timing.
- 5:23Speaker 2: One with bases loaded, one out. Hits into double plays.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Did not happen all year. Dylan Lee, great lefty reliever
- 5:30Speaker 2: for the Braves, had not given up a home run
- 5:33Speaker 2: to a left-handed batter all season. Within three pitches, he
- 5:38Speaker 2: gave up moonshots to Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper to
- 5:42Speaker 2: tie the game.
- 5:44Speaker 1: That is not, man, postseason baseball. It's just different.
- 5:46Speaker 2: To a fan of that team, that is excruciating to watch.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Things that have happened all year and have never happened
- 5:53Speaker 2: to happen in that game and then to lose in
- 5:55Speaker 2: extra innings. And to know now you're going to face
- 5:58Speaker 2: Zach Wheeler, the ace for the Phillies.
- 6:00Speaker 1: With your bullpen.
- 6:01Speaker 2: In game three. And basically what is a split starter
- 6:07Speaker 2: bullpen game for the Braves. It's going to be, I
- 6:10Speaker 2: don't even know who's starting right now. Martin Perez, Grant Holmes,
- 6:13Speaker 2: and then a collection of good relief pitchers for the
- 6:16Speaker 2: Braves that will pitch this game. It's all hands on deck, obviously.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Do or die game for both teams. But that is excruciating.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Here's also what I hate about yesterday's game. Walt Weiss,
- 6:26Speaker 2: who I love and has done a great job this year,
- 6:29Speaker 2: pinch hits Dom Smith with a game on the line.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Runners on first and second, two outs, bottom of the 10th.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Braves have a chance to tie it or win it.
- 6:37Speaker 2: And the dude sees three pitches and strikes out. He
- 6:39Speaker 2: has seen a total of six pitches in this series,
- 6:41Speaker 2: two strikeouts so far, and not even close. I mean,
- 6:45Speaker 2: complete anticlimactic. I like to call him Uncle Dom, Uncle
- 6:49Speaker 2: Dom Smith. I have no idea why Uncle Dom is
- 6:52Speaker 2: put in that spot. Just a miserable– experience for me
- 6:56Speaker 2: as a fan yesterday in that game. All it does
- 6:59Speaker 2: is make me more angry that Major League Baseball has
- 7:02Speaker 2: created a system where a division champ that finished six
- 7:05Speaker 2: games ahead of the team they're playing in the first
- 7:08Speaker 2: round has to go head-to-head with that team to start
- 7:11Speaker 2: the playoffs in a three-game series. I'm not bitching because
- 7:13Speaker 2: it's the Phillies. I respect the Phillies. They're a great team.
- 7:16Speaker 2: They are more clutch than the Braves, typically. Those superstars
- 7:19Speaker 2: are the Phillies. That's why I didn't want to play them. Also,
- 7:23Speaker 2: if it's a five-game series, I'm fine with it. It's
- 7:25Speaker 2: a seven-game series.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I'm fine with it.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Keep in mind, the Braves had to face the Phillies
- 7:29Speaker 2: like nine games out of the last 21, and they
- 7:32Speaker 2: were beating them in those games to win the division.
- 7:35Speaker 2: So they've also had to face them a ton late
- 7:38Speaker 2: in the season, and they went through this marathon to
- 7:41Speaker 2: win that division and now to turn around and Major
- 7:44Speaker 2: League Baseball to say, by the way, you've got to
- 7:46Speaker 2: beat them in a three-game series to move on.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Good luck. I hate the whole thing. And what is
- 7:52Speaker 1: a marathon of a season? Why the rush to just
- 7:57Speaker 1: speed things up in the postseason? Three games at home.
- 8:02Speaker 1: If you make the playoffs, you should host a damn game.
- 8:05Speaker 1: That's the other part of this. They just want to
- 8:08Speaker 1: get through the rounds and hit fast forward to where
- 8:15Speaker 1: you end up with the National and American League. championship.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I don't know, though, why the rush. Like this thing
- 8:23Speaker 1: where we don't play in November. Then don't play in November.
- 8:26Speaker 1: There are ways to do this where you don't have
- 8:28Speaker 1: to play in November. Used to, they were able to
- 8:33Speaker 1: pull this off, you know, until we saw Jeter become Mr.
- 8:37Speaker 2: November.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I'm Why the rush if you're going to have the
- 8:40Speaker 1: longevity of the season.
- 8:42Speaker 3: As it is?
- 8:43Speaker 1: I don't understand. Amen.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Amen to all that, Hutton. And then we're going to
- 8:47Speaker 2: go from three to five. I'd still like to go
- 8:49Speaker 2: to seven. When you get to the final four in
- 8:51Speaker 2: each league, have a seven-game series to decide those also.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I don't know why we've changed it to this level.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I think it's completely broken. Also, the Braves didn't find
- 9:01Speaker 2: out until late, late last night, middle of the night,
- 9:03Speaker 2: that they're going to play at 7 o'clock today instead
- 9:06Speaker 2: of 1 o'clock. that's also crazy because everybody else lost.
- 9:10Speaker 2: So now they need a primetime slot. So Braves-Phillies game
- 9:13Speaker 2: three is going to be on television in primetime. But,
- 9:16Speaker 2: I mean, you get Red Sox-Yankees as a great example
- 9:19Speaker 2: to what you're saying. We're done in two nights with
- 9:21Speaker 2: the Yankees blowing them out in both games.
- 9:24Speaker 1: How about Sonny Gray? Cubs-Padres. Sorry, JT. Cubs get blown
- 9:29Speaker 1: out in two games.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Done.
- 9:31Speaker 2: The Astros that everybody thinks I'm a fan of. losing
- 9:34Speaker 2: two games to the White Sox. By the way, I
- 9:36Speaker 2: was rooting for the White Sox in that series because
- 9:38Speaker 2: I liked that story better than the Astros.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Mattress Mack is pissed off at you. Yes, yes.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Mattress Mack will never speak to me again. John McClain
- 9:45Speaker 2: may not speak to me either. But yeah, I mean,
- 9:49Speaker 2: it's broken. Hopefully we can tweak this. And just on
- 9:54Speaker 2: its face, the wild card round should not feature a division.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Champion yeah I totally agree did you see Sonny Gray
- 10:01Speaker 1: props to him for just saying it like it was
- 10:04Speaker 1: where he's like do I think I should have been
- 10:05Speaker 1: pulled after 70 pitches no I'm the best American League
- 10:09Speaker 1: pitcher when it comes to going through the lineup for
- 10:11Speaker 1: a third time no I don't think I should have
- 10:13Speaker 1: been pulled in this game I love it he said
- 10:16Speaker 1: I gave up a solo homer and a couple singles.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I mean, I love the guy, Smyrna High School, Smyrna
- 10:24Speaker 2: Bulldogs finest, Sonny Gray. And he's right. I mean, it's
- 10:30Speaker 2: a total mistake in hindsight. I'm sure the manager does
- 10:33Speaker 2: not like getting called out for that decision based on
- 10:36Speaker 2: I'm sure there was some strategy involved into why he
- 10:38Speaker 2: did what he did last night.
- 10:39Speaker 1: But it definitely did not work out. How's the chat?
- 10:45Speaker 1: By the way, if you're watching on YouTube, we hope
- 10:47Speaker 1: you'll share the show and hop in the chat. and
- 10:50Speaker 1: let us know your take on the various topics throughout
- 10:55Speaker 1: the show today. And we hope you give us a
- 10:57Speaker 1: thumbs up and subscribe to the channel. If you haven't
- 11:00Speaker 1: done that already, we've got one big thing on every
- 11:02Speaker 1: NFL game.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Let me say something about that real quick, wherever we
- 11:07Speaker 2: do business as Jacob Lewis likes to say, we're, we're alive.
- 11:10Speaker 2: All right. We're alive on X on Facebook, on YouTube.
- 11:14Speaker 2: We have a podcast through iHeart.
- 11:15Speaker 1: That's great.
- 11:16Speaker 2: And you can, you can piecemeal our show out for
- 11:19Speaker 2: over two hours by topic based on how it's formatted.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So I love all these options that our audience gets

- 11:44Speaker 2: Like this is, People ask me, what do you miss
- 11:47Speaker 2: about local radio? My answer is nothing except for audience interaction.
- 11:53Speaker 1: That's it.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Like the audience interaction of, you know, having that ability
- 11:58Speaker 2: to hear someone call in or talk about something in
- 12:01Speaker 2: the moment is the only thing I miss. We get
- 12:03Speaker 2: it here on the YouTube page. So please follow us there.

- 13:27Speaker 2: King Mountain Blend, the dark roast, as you mentioned, hunting
- 13:30Speaker 2: right now.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Just absolutely delicious. Getting me going on this morning. Jake
- 13:34Speaker 1: Crane joins us from Crane and Cone on On3. Jake,
- 13:38Speaker 1: we've got to get you some Crockett coffee.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I love the jasmine flavor. Just kidding.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Are you a coffee guy you seem like a coffee
- 13:47Speaker 2: guy jake.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Oh 100 percent edge and black black uh when i
- 13:51Speaker 3: was coaching it you know i've it's probably what's gonna
- 13:54Speaker 3: kill me at the end of the day but i
- 13:56Speaker 3: can't i cannot function without and my wife has 19
- 13:59Speaker 3: different flavors of creamers it's like what what you what
- 14:02Speaker 3: you'd have at the north pole when you look in
- 14:03Speaker 3: our refrigerator but uh i like mine just just straight
- 14:07Speaker 3: up straight uh straight out of.
- 14:08Speaker 1: The bean hey jake when how long were you coaching.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Man, I coached for a totality of 11 years. I
- 14:16Speaker 3: did six in Division I. I did one in NAIA.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I actually did one in high school when my dad
- 14:22Speaker 3: passed away. And then in JUCO, I was 3-0 on
- 14:25Speaker 3: last chance to use.
- 14:26Speaker 1: So the story with the insider, whatever, Don Julio. The
- 14:36Speaker 1: info that clearly no one wanted to even try to
- 14:41Speaker 1: use because they probably already had it. Did you just
- 14:44Speaker 1: laugh at that? Was that just like a mundane story
- 14:46Speaker 1: to you that was happening in your era? Or is
- 14:49Speaker 1: this like the new era where everyone wants to be
- 14:51Speaker 1: a coach?
- 14:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure it's like shrinkage at a grocery store.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Sometimes the Cheerios fall off the shelf and bust open,
- 14:59Speaker 3: but it's just one thing. They're going to be fine. Now,
- 15:03Speaker 3: there's levels to it, obviously. It's one thing if you're
- 15:07Speaker 3: a spy to tell somebody, War plans, it's another to
- 15:10Speaker 3: tell exactly where the spies are. So to me, I
- 15:14Speaker 3: don't think it's kind of– it's just such a shocking
- 15:16Speaker 3: thing for people to find because you really don't hear
- 15:18Speaker 3: about stuff like that. Even when it happens, it really
- 15:21Speaker 3: doesn't leak. But again, trade secrets, it's just– Kind of
- 15:26Speaker 3: funny if you put it that way, because we're talking
- 15:27Speaker 3: about player evaluations or injuries or something like that, as
- 15:30Speaker 3: opposed to, guys, we just put in a double reverse
- 15:32Speaker 3: pass that's definitely going to work this week. Those are
- 15:35Speaker 3: different levels of, are we going to ever let you
- 15:38Speaker 3: out of prison again? If it was me, it'd get
- 15:41Speaker 3: medieval real quick, but it's not me, thank goodness.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Everyone's a friend of someone like this, Chad. We know
- 15:47Speaker 1: a guy named Ryan Mudd. This guy reminds me of
- 15:50Speaker 1: Ryan Mudd. He's just so into whatever his hobby is.
- 15:56Speaker 1: He made this his mission to help out whatever team.
- 16:01Speaker 1: He's got all this intel on Auburn. And no one
- 16:03Speaker 1: wanted it. I mean, I feel bad for the guy.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I also, and like you were just saying, I mean,
- 16:09Speaker 2: this is recruiting evaluations and not, this is when we're
- 16:12Speaker 2: going to run this trick play. We're tipping someone off
- 16:14Speaker 2: during a game about, hey, we're running right on this play.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Different levels of espionage involved here. I actually got some
- 16:20Speaker 2: insider information on this guy. Oh, nice.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Jenrath or Don Julio. Yeah.
- 16:25Speaker 2: He was fired from Williamson County Parks and Rec for
- 16:28Speaker 2: being just very odd.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Uh, in his job there. Uh, so this happens.
- 16:35Speaker 2: And Jake, that's what I want to get to is,
- 16:37Speaker 2: is this a cautionary tale also of there are way
- 16:40Speaker 2: too many cooks in the kitchen on these college football
- 16:43Speaker 2: staffs right now.
- 16:43Speaker 1: You were in coaching for a while. These staffs are
- 16:46Speaker 1: so bloated. I'm looking at this dude and thinking, how
- 16:49Speaker 1: did this guy even get a part-time gig at Auburn university?
- 16:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 2: One of the top programs in America, a big time
- 16:56Speaker 2: sec school. And I'm looking at him and seeing what
- 16:59Speaker 2: he did and thinking, this dude was one of your
- 17:01Speaker 2: employees at one point.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'm a Tennessee guy. I'd be pissed. I know he's
- 17:05Speaker 1: at UT. But if he was working for the Tennessee
- 17:07Speaker 1: football program, I'm thinking, why are we hiring these guys
- 17:10Speaker 1: to do anything for the program?
- 17:12Speaker 3: Well, you know, the arms race isn't just for facilities, right?
- 17:16Speaker 3: It isn't just for NIL money. Now that we have
- 17:18Speaker 3: the transfer portal and, you know, you talk to any GM,
- 17:21Speaker 3: you talk to Jim Nagy at Oklahoma, you talk to anybody,
- 17:23Speaker 3: you've had to build a new wing. basically of the
- 17:26Speaker 3: program uh so you want to have as many people
- 17:29Speaker 3: i mean you remember how many people nick saban had
- 17:31Speaker 3: at practice like so many that they had a change
- 17:34Speaker 3: they had like a the the assistant to the assistant
- 17:37Speaker 3: defensive ends coach and he only helped with certain pass
- 17:40Speaker 3: rush downs like so you're trying to get as many
- 17:43Speaker 3: people as possible but when you allow that type of
- 17:45Speaker 3: access see that's you know again it's just like anything
- 17:49Speaker 3: it's like in government institutions Typically, you compartmentalize access, and
- 17:54Speaker 3: it seems that that really wasn't done here. They trusted
- 17:59Speaker 3: this guy with a lot of information, and I guarantee
- 18:02Speaker 3: it doesn't happen again because now when you are allowing
- 18:05Speaker 3: that many people in there, it's why I still can't
- 18:07Speaker 3: believe they got away with the Manhattan Project the way
- 18:10Speaker 3: they did for so long, even though that one guy
- 18:12Speaker 3: tried to cook us, but we know how that worked out.
- 18:15Speaker 3: But no, look, you need an army now, but you
- 18:17Speaker 3: need to vet that army for sure.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yes. So Tennessee-Auburn this weekend, I don't know what it
- 18:25Speaker 2: means to Alex Golish with the short time he spent
- 18:28Speaker 2: in Knoxville. I can tell you this means a lot
- 18:31Speaker 2: to Josh Heupel at home to handle business against a
- 18:35Speaker 2: guy that since he left, everyone's saying the offense hasn't
- 18:39Speaker 2: been as good, and it's not been in many ways
- 18:41Speaker 2: since Alex Golish was the.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Offensive coordinator at Tennessee.
- 18:43Speaker 2: What do you think about this matchup and how meaningful
- 18:47Speaker 2: it is on both sides of this with Heupel going
- 18:49Speaker 2: against his former apprentice in Alex Golish.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Well, you know, you never want to let your kid
- 18:54Speaker 3: beat you in the driveway because the minute they beat
- 18:57Speaker 3: you in the driveway, you're probably never going to beat
- 18:58Speaker 3: him again. It's like my father used to have to
- 19:01Speaker 3: show me every now and then we'd go out and
- 19:03Speaker 3: he'd have to remind me until that one day he didn't.
- 19:06Speaker 3: And then I never lost again. So, yeah, from a
- 19:08Speaker 3: personal standpoint, yes. But just more from a macro sense
- 19:12Speaker 3: on the Tennessee side, after what happened against Texas last
- 19:15Speaker 3: You fought back. I love the drop kick, onside kick.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Just make sure you drop it in the right place.
- 19:21Speaker 3: You want to give your fans something to go home
- 19:23Speaker 3: and feel good about against a team that you're better than. Tennessee,
- 19:26Speaker 3: from a roster standpoint, is better than Auburn. I think
- 19:29Speaker 3: they're better than Auburn on the line of scrimmage on
- 19:31Speaker 3: both sides of the ball. The way that Auburn's been
- 19:33Speaker 3: playing right now offensively doesn't really make sense to the
- 19:37Speaker 3: personnel that they have. If you're unwilling to run a
- 19:40Speaker 3: running quarterback, don't get a running quarterback. That's why God
- 19:45Speaker 3: invented pocket passers. uh you know you don't drive you
- 19:47Speaker 3: don't buy a lamborghini to just drive it around your
- 19:49Speaker 3: neighborhood i'm taking that thing out in the city and
- 19:51Speaker 3: putting the top down and there's probably a baddie next
- 19:54Speaker 3: to me which is my wife which is my wife
- 19:57Speaker 3: um but uh on the on the tennessee side again
- 20:00Speaker 3: you're coming off that loss you want to get back
- 20:02Speaker 3: in the race you want to get phase on some
- 20:03Speaker 3: confidence and then on the auburn side This is another
- 20:06Speaker 3: big opportunity in year one for goalists to show that
- 20:09Speaker 3: things are different. Auburn has won two one-score games, which
- 20:12Speaker 3: Auburn couldn't win a one-score game in the spring game
- 20:14Speaker 3: the last four years. Winning those two against Baylor and
- 20:18Speaker 3: then against Vanderbilt. you know, now that I say that,
- 20:20Speaker 3: that doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence, but it's
- 20:22Speaker 3: still a one score game. So yeah, it means, it
- 20:24Speaker 3: means a ton to both teams. And man, if you
- 20:26Speaker 3: look at both these schedules, including Auburn's in October, go
- 20:29Speaker 3: through Auburn's October schedule. Um, it's basically you having to
- 20:33Speaker 3: fight one of the guys from mortal combat for.
- 20:35Speaker 1: A whole month. Man, that brings up a great game.
- 20:38Speaker 1: That's an old school reference right there. Uh, with the
- 20:41Speaker 1: names there. Hey, um, Are you on board with Mississippi
- 20:44Speaker 1: State the way Chad and I are on board?
- 20:47Speaker 3: How on board with, like, are we going to play
- 20:50Speaker 3: off on board?
- 20:52Speaker 1: I think they're going to beat Alabama.
- 20:53Speaker 2: And I said in the preseason, I could see them
- 20:55Speaker 2: being the Oklahoma of this year, the surprise entrant into
- 20:59Speaker 2: the college football playoff as an SEC team.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Look, I think when you... And everybody talks about Camario,
- 21:06Speaker 3: and they should. I mean, he's a freak. And the
- 21:08Speaker 3: craziest thing about Camario is he's not as good as
- 21:10Speaker 3: he's going to be once he gets his intermediate passing
- 21:13Speaker 3: game where it should be. We know he can flick
- 21:15Speaker 3: the wrist and the ball go 80 yards, and he
- 21:17Speaker 3: can saute him a little bit. I mean, he can
- 21:19Speaker 3: drop it in the bucket. He's just not up there.
- 21:22Speaker 3: throwing two seamers and hoping you can't catch up to it.
- 21:26Speaker 3: But I think the most impressive part of Mississippi State
- 21:27Speaker 3: is the pieces around him. That's what I've been impressed with.
- 21:31Speaker 3: And Lebby does a lot of great things on offense.
- 21:33Speaker 3: That kind of delayed inside zone where he gets the
- 21:36Speaker 3: quarterback's hands up to try and get the linebackers to drop.
- 21:38Speaker 3: That's worked out. But along the line of scrimmage, you know,
- 21:41Speaker 3: Mississippi State's always had a couple, but it feels like
- 21:43Speaker 3: they've got some more. So, yeah, I mean, I wouldn't
- 21:46Speaker 3: be shocked if this Mississippi State team did anything, but
- 21:48Speaker 3: I will say they may have the worst five-game stretch
- 21:51Speaker 3: in all of college football.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Oh, it's brutal.
- 21:52Speaker 3: So here's the thing. If you can go 3-2 over
- 21:56Speaker 3: that five-game stretch, you can for sure go 10-2, but
- 22:00Speaker 3: you'd have to beat Ole Miss on the road at
- 22:02Speaker 3: the end, which can happen. But, you know, Trinidad's a— Camario' s
- 22:06Speaker 3: a monster. Trinidad's a witch.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Is Florida the team we've seen, or do you think
- 22:13Speaker 1: we see the gauntlet come up with them as well?
- 22:17Speaker 1: And is this a weird matchup for them, kind of
- 22:19Speaker 1: similar to the way Ole Miss had to come off
- 22:22Speaker 1: an emotional win? They just throttled Ole Miss. Now they're
- 22:26Speaker 1: playing Missouri.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that's exactly what we talked about when we did
- 22:29Speaker 3: our prediction show yesterday. Here's the thing about Florida, though.
- 22:33Speaker 3: You know, I'm a... I said when Summerall got the job,
- 22:37Speaker 3: and look, I wanted Summerall at Auburn. I like Gullish.
- 22:39Speaker 3: I think Gullish would be fine, but there's a reason
- 22:40Speaker 3: I wanted John at Auburn. I think it takes a
- 22:43Speaker 3: certain type of archetype of mind to have success at Florida.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Who are the two guys that have had success at
- 22:49Speaker 3: Florida that we can remember? It's Steve Spurrier and it's
- 22:52Speaker 3: Urban Meyer. Huge egos. And they'll tell you about it.
- 22:56Speaker 3: John's the same way. John may be more nuts than
- 22:59Speaker 3: both of them. And I mean that in like a
- 23:01Speaker 3: good way. So I say that to say, I think
- 23:03Speaker 3: this Florida team is going to stay hungry. I don't
- 23:05Speaker 3: think this is a mirage. I don't think people patting
- 23:08Speaker 3: them on the back saying, man, y'all are doing so good, man.
- 23:11Speaker 3: We're so proud of y'all is going to have any effect.
- 23:13Speaker 3: So I, I do think Missouri is going to shorten
- 23:16Speaker 3: the game. I think this is going to be a
- 23:17Speaker 3: tight game. But as long as Florida can keep running
- 23:21Speaker 3: the ball like this, it takes so much pressure off
- 23:23Speaker 3: Aaron and, And Buster's just doing a geometry with proofs
- 23:26Speaker 3: class in front of everybody pre-snap, and nobody knows what
- 23:29Speaker 3: to do. Kind of reminds me of being in geometry
- 23:32Speaker 3: with proofs class. I can't even say it anymore. With
- 23:36Speaker 3: Miss Bray. Shout out Miss Bray. But how I got
- 23:38Speaker 3: a C- in that one? You want to talk about
- 23:41Speaker 3: Don Julio?
- 23:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 23:43Speaker 3: I had a Don Julio sitting next to me, thank God.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Man, I prayed for a C-minus in some of those, though.
- 23:48Speaker 2: I feel like I had a Miss Bray also in
- 23:50Speaker 2: school at some point, too.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Did every school in the South have a Miss Bray?
- 23:54Speaker 1: I had a Miss Bray at some point.
- 23:56Speaker 3: She was Belgium. She was from Belgium. I don't know
- 23:59Speaker 3: if we're talking about the same lady, but it's the
- 24:00Speaker 3: only chick I ever met from Belgium.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I think mine was Dutch.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I mean, if so, facto.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Could you give us the Cliff Notes version of John
- 24:10Speaker 2: Sumrall in Auburn? And the history there or why he's
- 24:14Speaker 2: not at Auburn.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 2: The short version of it, because I'm having a hard
- 24:18Speaker 2: time connecting all the dots as to why there's some
- 24:21Speaker 2: animosity there.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Well, and again, I mean, this comes from, you know,
- 24:25Speaker 3: straight from the source. I'm not going to say their
- 24:27Speaker 3: name and I'm not one of those people that. you know,
- 24:29Speaker 3: makes up anonymous sources. Like I can tell you what
- 24:32Speaker 3: happened basically was Summerall's wife, okay, is an Auburn girl, okay?
- 24:36Speaker 3: I mean, John also coached at Troy. It was just
- 24:40Speaker 3: a really good fit. Summerall at Auburn is a really
- 24:42Speaker 3: good fit. I know he wanted the job. Um, but
- 24:47Speaker 3: he didn't want to have to keep DJ Dirk. And I,
- 24:49Speaker 3: I can, this is the best when you're going to
- 24:51Speaker 3: take the head coach, just your first big shot at it.
- 24:54Speaker 3: I'm bringing my guys. I'm not sorry that you didn't
- 24:58Speaker 3: want DJ Dirk and to be the head coach, but
- 25:00Speaker 3: that doesn't mean I have to keep them as defensive coordinator.
- 25:03Speaker 3: And John Dirk, thought, if the person who I know
- 25:06Speaker 3: is correct is correct, that the AD, Cohen, had talked
- 25:09Speaker 3: to Durkin and told him that there's not a guarantee
- 25:12Speaker 3: he will be retained if Summerall gets it. But then
- 25:15Speaker 3: Summerall gets wind of Cohen's doing a contract extension talk
- 25:19Speaker 3: with DJ Durkin about the new coach that's coming in,
- 25:23Speaker 3: which was the opposite of what Summerall was told. So
- 25:26Speaker 3: obviously Summerall gets pissed off, and it kind of blows
- 25:30Speaker 3: up from there, and he goes to Florida. See, Auburn's AD.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Is, and again, I'm trying to say this the nicest
- 25:38Speaker 3: way possible. I think if you put his brain in
- 25:41Speaker 3: a dog, it'd walk back. I really believe that. That
- 25:46Speaker 3: is the most childish little league.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Junior varsity thing I've ever seen in my life. Like you,
- 25:54Speaker 3: I'm the head coach. I'm, you're going to tell me
- 25:57Speaker 3: what defensive coordinator I'm going to bring in. What are
- 25:59Speaker 3: you going to do next? Go to the, go to
- 26:00Speaker 3: the Pentagon and tell me the next general should be right.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Like it just, it is so asinine and stupid. And look,
- 26:07Speaker 3: I hope goalish works out. I think there's a chance
- 26:09Speaker 3: that it does. It's just unfortunate because you blew a
- 26:13Speaker 3: big one because you're just not good at this.
- 26:17Speaker 2: So, higher concern level right now, Texas A & M
- 26:21Speaker 2: or South Carolina, based on what you've seen in the
- 26:24Speaker 2: early going in the SEC?
- 26:26Speaker 3: Well, I would say Texas A & M because I
- 26:27Speaker 3: think South Carolina fans knew this was probably the swan
- 26:29Speaker 3: song year for Beamer anyway. I don't think there's some
- 26:33Speaker 3: collective gasp in Columbia that South Carolina's not very good.
- 26:37Speaker 3: A & M, however... just went to the college football playoff,
- 26:41Speaker 3: returned all these guys. Elko is the monster supposed to
- 26:44Speaker 3: still being created. And all of a sudden now you realize,
- 26:47Speaker 3: you know, you forgot to give it arms. So like,
- 26:50Speaker 3: is this a, you know, just anomaly kind of rare
- 26:55Speaker 3: thing with Elko that's going to happen? Or are we
- 26:57Speaker 3: starting to see maybe what Texas A & M is
- 26:59Speaker 3: going to be, which is the opposite of what a
- 27:02Speaker 3: lot of people, including myself, thought this team was going
- 27:05Speaker 3: to get better. I think Marcel Reed's a microcosm. of
- 27:08Speaker 3: what this team is right now. It's a regression when
- 27:10Speaker 3: we thought it was going to be a progression.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Man, it's always great to catch up with you. Enjoying
- 27:16Speaker 1: the show on your end as well with On3. Got
- 27:19Speaker 1: some great stuff rolling there. Biggest upset of the week
- 27:22Speaker 1: in the SEC. Do you have one? Chad's going Mississippi State.
- 27:26Speaker 3: I mean, that's not crazy. I would say, and it's
- 27:30Speaker 3: not a big one, I think Kentucky beat South Carolina.
- 27:32Speaker 3: I think they were a two-and-a-half, three-and-a-half point dog last
- 27:34Speaker 3: time I saw it. Um, that'd be the one I'd take.
- 27:37Speaker 3: I just don't trust Auburn, uh, against Tennessee. Cause they're
- 27:40Speaker 3: going to try and, you know, uh, turn Byron Brown
- 27:42Speaker 3: into drew breeze. I don't see a huge upset this weekend.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Does he hang on to the football too long?
- 27:48Speaker 3: Well, well, it's here's the thing. It's a mixture of
- 27:51Speaker 3: both because if you're, if you're deficient on the offensive
- 27:54Speaker 3: line anywhere, but especially on the interior and, And you
- 27:57Speaker 3: have a running quarterback. Byron Brown is just as good
- 28:01Speaker 3: running as he is passing. He's a really good runner.
- 28:05Speaker 3: He's a good passer, but he's not a pocket passer.
- 28:08Speaker 3: So if you watch the way he played at USF,
- 28:10Speaker 3: this is not the way he's been played at Auburn.
- 28:11Speaker 3: It's like somebody told him, hey, if you want to
- 28:13Speaker 3: be in the NFL, you've got to stay in the pocket.
- 28:15Speaker 3: That's not who you are. I want to be shortstop
- 28:17Speaker 3: for the Braves. I'm never going to be shortstop for
- 28:19Speaker 3: the Braves. That's not who I am. So why don't
- 28:21Speaker 3: I do what I'm best at? And again, if you're
- 28:23Speaker 3: worried about the quarterback getting hurt running, don't have a
- 28:26Speaker 3: system where the quarterback runs or don't bring a running
- 28:29Speaker 3: quarterback in. So that's why.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Always pissed off for greatness when it comes to Auburn.
- 28:33Speaker 1: It's Jake Craig. Good to see you, bro.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Hey, great to see y'all, man. Happy for y'all. And again,
- 28:37Speaker 3: anytime y'all need me, Blaine, or Arconi, just hit us up.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Tell them all we said hello. Thanks, brother.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Y'all be good.
- 28:44Speaker 1: See y'all. Always great to catch up with Craig and Cone.
- 28:49Speaker 1: And certainly we highly recommend checking out their show. And
- 28:54Speaker 1: he knows Auburn as well as anyone. Oh, yeah.
- 28:56Speaker 2: So I wanted to get to the bottom of the
- 28:57Speaker 2: whole John Cohen, John Sumrall thing. And you could tell
- 29:00Speaker 2: it was way more personal for Sumrall based off everything
- 29:02Speaker 2: he said.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Absolutely. After that win. Absolutely. Coming up, one big thing
- 29:07Speaker 1: on every NFL game. some stats that you need to
- 29:12Speaker 1: know before you place your bets at Hard Rock Bet.
- 29:15Speaker 1: That's straight ahead here on Hutton and Withrow. It is
- 29:18Speaker 1: Hutton and Withrow. We are presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Go check out XXXY Athletics, founded by Jennifer Say, a
- 29:26Speaker 1: former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She walked
- 29:29Speaker 1: away from a corporate job rather than to say something
- 29:31Speaker 1: she didn't believe, and she started XXXY Athletics instead. The
- 29:34Speaker 1: mission in their words, empower female athletes and take a
- 29:37Speaker 1: stand for fair competition. They call it the T that
- 29:40Speaker 1: launched a movement. And Chad, this is real athletic apparel.
- 29:43Speaker 1: This is the official gear for the Nashville Balls. That's right.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Clay Travis' WNBA franchise, XXXY is the official apparel provider
- 29:52Speaker 2: for Nashville Balls merch.
- 29:54Speaker 1: T's, trucker hats out now. If you want the shirt,
- 29:57Speaker 1: that's where you get it.

- 30:07Speaker 2: I feel like this spot's a good time to give
- 30:09Speaker 2: you my limited knowledge of the WNBA playoffs at Everyday Hutton.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Here's my update.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Some girl for Dallas broke the playoff scoring record last
- 30:19Speaker 2: night in a game. with 45 points. And I'm not,
- 30:22Speaker 2: I'm not exactly even sure who it was. So there's
- 30:24Speaker 2: our daily WNBA update from Chad.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Did she get upset when asked a question by a, like, um,
- 30:32Speaker 1: a reporter that is normally not covering the league?
- 30:35Speaker 2: Yeah, probably said something like, I'm not about all the BS,
- 30:38Speaker 2: but let me tell you why I am about the
- 30:40Speaker 2: BS right now. Like, the one who went into the
- 30:43Speaker 2: stands the night before in Indiana. Yeah, that's my knowledge.
- 30:49Speaker 2: You should just ask me anything about the WNBA, and
- 30:51Speaker 2: I'll tell you what little I've seen on the periphery.
- 30:53Speaker 2: I know something, but I don't have full details on
- 30:56Speaker 2: the story.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Chad is one, though, can find eye on, which is
- 30:59Speaker 1: very unusual. Yeah, it's way down my scroll list on
- 31:03Speaker 1: YouTube TV.
- 31:04Speaker 2: You know, there's no numbers associated with the channels, but
- 31:06Speaker 2: you can order them in any way.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I had to go way down when I found that
- 31:10Speaker 1: game on ION. I can tell you that. I have
- 31:13Speaker 1: in my hand 16 games across the National Football League
- 31:16Speaker 1: for Week 4. They will not be playing on ION,
- 31:18Speaker 1: but you can find them practically anywhere else. Time for
- 31:21Speaker 1: one big thing on every NFL game. Just a quick note, Carolina,
- 31:24Speaker 1: New York, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, and Baltimore, those are the
- 31:28Speaker 1: home teams with an over 50% chance of rain. So
- 31:31Speaker 1: if you're playing these games, keep that weather in mind
- 31:34Speaker 1: for those margins. Thursday night football, Steelers and Browns, 2-1
- 31:37Speaker 1: against 2-1. Steelers favored by three. Over under at 38.5.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Primetime AFC North rivalry here. A surprise that both teams
- 31:47Speaker 1: are 2-1, of course. Aaron Rodgers wanted to thin the playbook.
- 31:52Speaker 1: And this is the offense we thought we would see.
- 31:55Speaker 1: It resulted in multiple first quarter touchdowns. Chad, it's 123 games.
- 32:00Speaker 1: The Steelers had gone 123 games without two touchdowns or
- 32:05Speaker 1: more in the first quarter. They snapped that just by
- 32:08Speaker 1: thinning the playbook. Who knew? And Mason Graham for the Browns. Currently,
- 32:12Speaker 1: right now, one of only three players with a sack
- 32:14Speaker 1: in each of the first three weeks.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers has the clout and is the type of
- 32:18Speaker 2: quarterback that's done it long enough in this league that
- 32:21Speaker 2: he can tell reporters after a game, I need to
- 32:23Speaker 2: do a better job of telling the coaches what plays
- 32:25Speaker 2: don't work. And the very next week, plays start working.
- 32:28Speaker 2: And it did work after he said that. Bob's over Baghdad, man.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Sunday night football, Detroit and Carolina. Lions favored by 3.5
- 32:35Speaker 1: over under at 48.5. Sunday night football here in Charlotte.
- 32:40Speaker 1: The Lions know how to move the football, man, and
- 32:42Speaker 1: they do it on early downs. Play action, great with
- 32:44Speaker 1: Jameer Gibbs. He does everything well. He had two touchdowns
- 32:47Speaker 1: rushing and another receiving last week. Carolina's going to be
- 32:50Speaker 1: able to tackle in space, and they need to protect
- 32:52Speaker 1: Bryce Young. He was pressured on 51% of his dropbacks
- 32:57Speaker 1: last week, and the Panthers are going into a bye
- 32:59Speaker 1: week in week five along with Kansas City. Atlanta and
- 33:03Speaker 1: New Orleans sticking with the Carolina division there. they're commemorating
- 33:08Speaker 1: the 20th anniversary of Katrina and reopening the Superdome. I
- 33:13Speaker 1: remember going down there, Titans Radio. Larry Stone sent me
- 33:17Speaker 1: down there, Chad. And there was this guy. I went
- 33:20Speaker 1: down a week early for the Titans Saints Monday night.
- 33:23Speaker 1: It was Mr. Monday night with Bullitt. And I talked
- 33:26Speaker 1: to this guy who survived by tying an extension cord
- 33:29Speaker 1: around his waist and then hooking the other end to
- 33:31Speaker 1: a tree so he didn't drown. I mean, I was like, wow. Wow.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I mean, this is just the street right beside Bourbon Street.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I'll never forget that, what people went through during that.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Also, R.I.P.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Mike Atelier in this matchup. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Rest in
- 33:47Speaker 1: peace to one of the greats. Atlanta's offense found its footing,
- 33:52Speaker 1: 35 points against Green Bay. Michael Penix Jr., your guy.
- 33:56Speaker 1: He wasn't great throughout this entire game, but, I mean,
- 34:01Speaker 1: points matter. They now face a Saints secondary. that gave
- 34:04Speaker 1: up a ton of plays to the Raiders. So maybe
- 34:08Speaker 1: take a flyer there if you want. Chad's guy, Michael
- 34:11Speaker 1: Penix Jr. That's Penix, P-E-N-I-X. P-E-N-I-X.
- 34:15Speaker 2: There's no S in Penix. And there's only W's when
- 34:19Speaker 2: Michael takes the field. So bet accordingly. Sunday, 425 Eastern,
- 34:24Speaker 2: Chiefs and Raiders. 3-0 against 3-0. A 4.5 spread here,
- 34:28Speaker 2: 47.5 over under.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Over the last 35 seasons, since 1990, 75% of teams
- 34:37Speaker 1: to start the season 3-0 end up making the playoffs.
- 34:41Speaker 1: The Raiders came away with four takeaways in the fourth
- 34:45Speaker 1: quarter against the Saints last week. And it's the first
- 34:48Speaker 1: time in five years that we have high-octane offense like
- 34:53Speaker 1: this in matchup, which is crazy to think about with
- 34:55Speaker 1: the Raiders involved, at week four or beyond a season.
- 35:00Speaker 1: It's a matchup of unbeaten teams going into week four,
- 35:03Speaker 1: each averaging over 30 points per game. And we haven't
- 35:08Speaker 1: seen this since the Rams and Cardinals played years ago.
- 35:10Speaker 1: And I think they played in Mexico or something. The Raiders, Chad.
- 35:15Speaker 1: The freaking Raiders.
- 35:16Speaker 2: You said 70% of teams that start 3-0 make the playoffs?
- 35:19Speaker 2: Since 1990. I'd like to say, welcome to the 30% club.
- 35:23Speaker 2: You're Las Vegas Raiders. They will be in that 30%.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I love the story. I love the start. But this
- 35:28Speaker 2: team ain't making the playoffs.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Broncos, I would tend to... I would roll your way there, too.
- 35:35Speaker 1: 49ers favored by three here as the Broncos visit San Fran.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Brock Purdy leads the league in passer rating and with
- 35:41Speaker 1: nine touchdown passes. The Broncos just beat the Rams, but
- 35:45Speaker 1: they still have things to work out in offense. Bo
- 35:47Speaker 1: Nix completed four of 11 passes when he was pressured.
- 35:49Speaker 1: It's the first time in 36 years the San Francisco
- 35:53Speaker 1: 49ers have started a season, consecutive seasons, at 3-0. We
- 35:58Speaker 1: have an overseas game. We have a European matchup here
- 36:01Speaker 1: in London. London. Colts and Commanders, Colts by 3.5. This
- 36:07Speaker 1: is in Tottenham, for those that care. Indy had three
- 36:10Speaker 1: turnovers last week, zero takeaways, still won that football game.
- 36:14Speaker 1: The Commanders protected the football in their win in Week 3.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Marcus Mariota, crazy stat from NFL Research. Marcus Mariota threw
- 36:24Speaker 1: for three touchdowns without an interception last Sunday. It's the
- 36:27Speaker 1: first such game for Mariota since Week 4 of 2019.
- 36:31Speaker 1: 61 different quarterbacks had at least one game in which
- 36:35Speaker 1: they threw for three touchdowns without interception between Mariota's last
- 36:39Speaker 1: time and last week. That's insane.
- 36:43Speaker 2: That is crazy. Also insane. Not insane to me, though.
- 36:47Speaker 2: They're not selling tickets to this game. There's a lot
- 36:50Speaker 2: of reports out that they're having a hard time at
- 36:52Speaker 2: Tottenham Hotspur selling tickets to this, to which I say, Yes,
- 36:57Speaker 2: there can be too many international games, and we've reached
- 36:59Speaker 2: that point now with the NFL.
- 37:00Speaker 1: This is the first time I've heard of the game
- 37:02Speaker 1: not selling well. That's something to follow. Rams and Eagles
- 37:07Speaker 1: are matching up Sunday 1 p.m. Philly, they know how
- 37:12Speaker 1: to score. The Eagles get a touchdown in 81% of
- 37:14Speaker 1: their trips inside the red zone. The Rams gave up
- 37:17Speaker 1: a 16-point halftime lead in Denver last week. I would
- 37:20Speaker 1: say battle the trenches. Again, watch for the weather in
- 37:22Speaker 1: that game. New England and Buffalo, Chad. Six and a
- 37:25Speaker 1: half points spread for Buffalo. 48 and a half over under.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Here's Brady, Joe Brady, with the Buffalo hunting a 4-0
- 37:32Speaker 1: start in back-to-back seasons for the first time. I take
- 37:35Speaker 1: that back to the second time in franchise history. They
- 37:37Speaker 1: did it in 91 and 92. Drake May, seven turnovers
- 37:41Speaker 1: in his first three games. You ask, is that a lot? Yes,
- 37:45Speaker 1: that's the most by a Patriots player. Not a quarterback,
- 37:47Speaker 1: Patriots player in 30 years. And he set out the
- 37:51Speaker 1: final eight minutes of the game against Jacksonville. Brable just
- 37:54Speaker 1: sat him and put in the backup.
- 37:55Speaker 2: When Diana Rossini gets her vote back, when she rejoins
- 37:58Speaker 2: the media after this season, she will vote for Drake
- 38:01Speaker 2: May for Comeback Player of the Year a year from now,
- 38:04Speaker 2: based off his performance so far this year. So 2027,
- 38:07Speaker 2: Comeback of the Year, by Diana Rossini, will be Drake May.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Mark my word. Okay. She's going to announce that on
- 38:14Speaker 1: her new podcast whenever that comes out, too. Yes. Jaguars,
- 38:17Speaker 1: speaking of the team that beat the crap out of
- 38:19Speaker 1: New England, Jaguars on the road in Cincinnati. Jacksonville bidding
- 38:23Speaker 1: to start 3-1 or better in consecutive seasons for the
- 38:25Speaker 1: first time since 1997-99 when the Titans owned them. Travis Hunter.
- 38:31Speaker 1: He actually plays in the NFL. He made history in
- 38:34Speaker 1: Week 3. He recorded his first career interception. He's one
- 38:37Speaker 1: of only four players to have an interception and a
- 38:39Speaker 1: touchdown catch within the first two seasons of his career.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Special teams doomed Cincinnati last week in Pittsburgh. A lot
- 38:48Speaker 1: of great play by Aaron Rodgers, but Two big turnovers
- 38:51Speaker 1: on special teams, really, lost on the game. Dallas and
- 38:55Speaker 1: Houston is an interesting one. Urgency for Dallas, desperation for Houston.
- 39:00Speaker 1: And the Cowboys' run defense has surrendered 140 or more
- 39:03Speaker 1: yards on the ground in consecutive weeks. Houston's trying to
- 39:06Speaker 1: find their run game. And I would say only 17
- 39:10Speaker 1: since 2023 have started 0-2 and made the playoffs. That
- 39:14Speaker 1: includes the 2023 and 2025 Houston Texans. They're used to
- 39:19Speaker 1: this spot. For whatever reason, they can't start fast. Vikings
- 39:24Speaker 1: are hosting the Dolphins. Ten and a half point spread here.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Vikings lead the NFL with 14 sacks. And they have
- 39:31Speaker 1: four sacks and multiple takeaways in each of their first
- 39:33Speaker 1: three games. That's getting it done. Miami has a minus
- 39:37Speaker 1: 36 point differential. Guard the point spread with care there.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Still better than the Titans. Still better than the Titans. Absolutely.
- 39:45Speaker 1: They're more competitive, you're right. Cardinals and Giants. Cardinals favored
- 39:50Speaker 1: by a point and a half, over under at 44.
- 39:53Speaker 1: The Giants were banged up on the defensive front. So
- 39:57Speaker 1: can they get Malik Nabors going downfield against the Arizona secondary?
- 40:01Speaker 1: The Arizona secondary allowed eight for 12 on conversions on
- 40:05Speaker 1: third down in week three. And maybe it's just about,
- 40:08Speaker 1: is it good Jameis or bad Jameis that shows up?
- 40:12Speaker 2: If it's bad Jameis that shows up, We might have
- 40:15Speaker 2: good J.J. McCarthy that shows up the next week for
- 40:18Speaker 2: the New York Giants. So get ready for that switch.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Jets on the road against the Bears. Chicago's defense had
- 40:24Speaker 1: a signature Bears defensive performance on Monday Night Football. They
- 40:27Speaker 1: controlled the trenches with their front seven. The Jets' offense, meanwhile,
- 40:32Speaker 1: remains lifeless in scoring position. They have touchdowns on just
- 40:36Speaker 1: two of their seven red zone tries. That's pathetic. But
- 40:41Speaker 1: not as bad as the Tennessee Titans, which we'll get to.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Chargers and Seahawks, Chad. Line here is seven. The Chargers
- 40:49Speaker 1: have failed to cross 80 yards on the ground three
- 40:51Speaker 1: straight weeks to begin the year. Mental errors for Mike
- 40:56Speaker 1: McDonald's crew lost the game last week in Washington for Seattle.
- 41:00Speaker 1: It's unusual. The Chargers played well for two quarters in Buffalo.
- 41:04Speaker 1: I was thinking about your upset pick. I'm like, Chad's
- 41:06Speaker 1: going to nail this. And then they start committing penalties
- 41:08Speaker 1: and they don't finish drives. They turn it over twice
- 41:11Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. Yeah, quarterbacks in love. That's all
- 41:15Speaker 1: we can say. It's also anti-Jim Harbaugh with the Chargers.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Totally agree.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Going back to the ground game and what they're doing,
- 41:22Speaker 2: this is not him. This is not his style or personality. No.
- 41:26Speaker 1: This is bad for L.A. Also bad is Tampa Bay's offense.
- 41:30Speaker 1: They turned the ball over on more than 20% of
- 41:33Speaker 1: their possessions so far. They're 0-3. They're hosting Green Bay,
- 41:36Speaker 1: so it's Green Bay at Tampa Bay. 3.5 is the
- 41:38Speaker 1: spread here, 39.5 over-under. That's because it's going to be
- 41:43Speaker 1: scattered thunderstorms and humid. It's going to be 86, but
- 41:46Speaker 1: it's going to feel like 97. That's going to be
- 41:49Speaker 1: a miserable game to attend. Tampa was a part of
- 41:51Speaker 1: a game last week, Chad, that featured 17 punts and
- 41:55Speaker 1: combined with the Vikings to go four of 32 on
- 41:58Speaker 1: third down attempts. That is NFL offense at its worst.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Or is it?
- 42:04Speaker 1: Because finally, Tennessee Titans. They're traveling to Baltimore. 50% chance
- 42:09Speaker 1: of rain. Plenty of cloud cover. Wins at 10 miles
- 42:12Speaker 1: per hour. This is your Dayton, Ohio of the NFL
- 42:16Speaker 1: this coming weekend. Jesse Minter's got the Ravens rolling. And
- 42:20Speaker 1: here's Derrick Henry. Already 66 carries on the season. Six touchdowns.
- 42:25Speaker 1: 4.6 yards per carry. He's averaging 100 yards rushing per game.
- 42:29Speaker 1: For the entire game, the Titans ranked dead last in
- 42:33Speaker 1: total offensive plays in time of possession. And the one
- 42:37Speaker 1: standout player has been Jeffrey Simmons. He had 10 tackles.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Two tackles for loss, a sack, a quarterback hit or
- 42:42Speaker 1: so last week. But here's where it gets detailed. So
- 42:46Speaker 1: you have Cam Scadaboo generated a season-high 74 yards after
- 42:52Speaker 1: contact last week. Derrick Henry averages three yards per carry
- 42:56Speaker 1: after contact this season. He has 10,391 career yards after contact.
- 43:04Speaker 1: That is insane to me. No other player is within
- 43:06Speaker 1: 4,000 yards of that mark. So, you know what? Double
- 43:12Speaker 1: the spread. It's 11.5. This is going to be boat
- 43:16Speaker 1: race city in what is going to be a miserable game.
- 43:18Speaker 1: The Titans can't score. I think Henry scores multiple touchdowns.
- 43:22Speaker 1: And Baltimore rolls. And Cam Ward doesn't answer questions postgame.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Tease that thing up to 20 is what you're saying.
- 43:29Speaker 1: 20 is a good tease up for that one. Yeah,
- 43:32Speaker 1: take the under. Take the under and take the Ravens.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Never more. That's a big thing on every NFL game. Yes.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Edgar Allen Poe would hate this game to watch it even.
- 43:45Speaker 2: No one's going to enjoy watching Ravens-Titans. But I don't
- 43:47Speaker 2: think the Ravens will enjoy watching what's going to take
- 43:49Speaker 2: place as they watch this game.
- 43:51Speaker 1: No, the Ravens want nothing to do with it. Keep
- 43:53Speaker 1: an eye on what's going on with Lamar Jackson. He
- 43:57Speaker 1: didn't practice yesterday. I think it's just rest. Bye weeks
- 44:01Speaker 1: begin next week. Panthers and Chiefs, so watch your fantasy
- 44:04Speaker 1: football teams.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Just mind games from the Ravens, too. We don't even
- 44:07Speaker 2: need our quarterback to practice this week. Just set out
- 44:10Speaker 2: with no explanation. No, he just didn't practice.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Well, why? Is he hurt? Is it a concussion protocol? No. No,
- 44:15Speaker 1: he just didn't want to practice. We didn't really need it.
- 44:18Speaker 1: We're good. Oh, I mean, it's so bad. I've enjoyed
- 44:24Speaker 1: watching this now. You know, just the death march, the
- 44:28Speaker 1: march for arch, as you like to say, Chad. Well, remember,
- 44:31Speaker 1: there was a year, like, 07, I want to say.
- 44:33Speaker 2: It was one of those years of the Titans where
- 44:35Speaker 2: they were really bad but really entertaining when Billy Bullock
- 44:39Speaker 2: took over and they were scoring points.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right.
- 44:41Speaker 2: It went crazy. Remember, like, every game, though, was a shootout.
- 44:44Speaker 2: And I'm like, boy, this is bad, but it's entertaining.
- 44:47Speaker 2: These Titans aren't even entertainingly bad. His spleen ruptured.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Remember that? Yes. Bullock. What happened to Billy Bullock? Let's
- 44:55Speaker 1: get that guy on the show. Let's effort Billy.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Let's ask Billy what it feels like to have a
- 45:00Speaker 1: ruptured spleen. Hey, Billy. First question. We'll get his take
- 45:04Speaker 1: on the name.
- 45:04Speaker 2: From experience, I can tell you former NFL guys do
- 45:07Speaker 2: not love it when you ask them about their injuries
- 45:08Speaker 2: that are visible. Because I asked Ronnie Lott about his
- 45:11Speaker 2: finger one time and I thought he was going to
- 45:12Speaker 2: punch me.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Yeah. That's weird. Sorry. He was pissed off. I was there.
- 45:19Speaker 1: He was pissed off about that. Yeah, he was mad. Chad,
- 45:23Speaker 1: we are going to give... our locks of the week
- 45:26Speaker 1: straight ahead. It's time to win with hard rock bet.
- 45:28Speaker 1: That's next on how they withdraw.
- 45:31Speaker 3: This year, the biggest sports book parties.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Getting even bigger.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Hey, there's Jay boy.
- 45:36Speaker 3: I mean, whether you've been here, you're just getting here.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Everybody gets the same bonus back. Hey Jay, Jimmy Johnson.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Kevin, they know me?
- 45:45Speaker 3: Of course they know you. In this party, everybody's somebody.
- 45:49Speaker 3: And everyone gets bonus bets. Hey, that's Fat Joe. Forget him,
- 45:52Speaker 3: that's J-Boy.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Hey, J-Boy!
- 45:55Speaker 2: Everybody on Hard Rock Bet gets $ 100 in bonus bets.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Limited time only. My name's J-Boy.

- 46:21Speaker 1: the happy hour begins at 4 p.m. Eastern, 4 to 6.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Set a reminder on your phone to hop in there
- 46:27Speaker 1: and take advantage of some cool offers just by logging
- 46:30Speaker 1: in during happy hour. Chad, your Hard Rock Lock of
- 46:33Speaker 1: the Week.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Hutton, I am undefeated on the season with my locks,
- 46:37Speaker 2: and I want to remain undefeated this week.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I am going to the ACC.
- 46:42Speaker 2: There is a new verb called brahming that is happening
- 46:46Speaker 2: in Louisville. And when you brahm or you're brahming... It's
- 46:50Speaker 2: when you lose at least one game a year that
- 46:52Speaker 2: you absolutely should not off of a big performance. Louisville
- 46:57Speaker 2: beat SMU in a big performance. They come back as
- 47:00Speaker 2: a two-touchdown favorite at home and lose to Wake Forest
- 47:03Speaker 2: a week ago. That is the definition of brahming. There's
- 47:06Speaker 2: a lot of adjectives, adverbs, verbs to describe NC State
- 47:10Speaker 2: and what happened to them against Vandy. NC State is
- 47:13Speaker 2: not a great football team. I think that we have
- 47:16Speaker 2: overcorrected the loss to Wake Forest. to make Louisville only
- 47:20Speaker 2: a 3.5-point favorite at NC State. Hutton, give me the
- 47:23Speaker 2: Cardinals to cover the 3.5 points on the road in
- 47:27Speaker 2: Raleigh against NC State this week.
- 47:29Speaker 1: That is my lock. I will be following that. I
- 47:33Speaker 1: am curious if you'll be following me. My hard rock
- 47:35Speaker 1: lock this week, give me the under. Under 55.5, Tennessee
- 47:39Speaker 1: and Auburn. Do I think that the Vols' offensive slump
- 47:45Speaker 1: and woes just get magically better? No, I don't. I
- 47:48Speaker 1: don't think the weather helps this at all. Chad, I
- 47:51Speaker 1: think this is going to be a fast game. Both
- 47:54Speaker 1: teams want to run the football, possess the football. I
- 47:57Speaker 1: think Tennessee starts fast. This is Auburn's first true road game,
- 48:02Speaker 1: like a hostile environment. I don't see them pulling the
- 48:06Speaker 1: upset by any means, and I don't see this being
- 48:09Speaker 1: a very high-scoring game given the forecast and really just
- 48:14Speaker 1: given the offense and how both teams just want to
- 48:17Speaker 1: ground and pound throughout this. I'm taking the under 55.5.
- 48:19Speaker 1: I added a point to what's available right now at
- 48:24Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet. Hutton, I love this play. It's what
- 48:27Speaker 1: I would do. I think it's going to be an
- 48:28Speaker 1: ugly game for both teams.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Tennessee also, news came out last night, Wendell Moy Jr.,
- 48:33Speaker 2: they're starting left guard out for the season. So there's
- 48:35Speaker 2: going to be some shuffling on the offensive line, which
- 48:38Speaker 2: already just gave up 10 sacks to Texas. Yeah.
- 48:41Speaker 1: So, yeah, I think Tennessee probably wins. I agree with
- 48:44Speaker 1: Jake Crane.
- 48:45Speaker 2: I think they're better than Auburn, but I think it's
- 48:47Speaker 2: going to be an ugly game. So if I'm betting
- 48:49Speaker 2: this one, I would definitely bet the under, and I'm
- 48:52Speaker 2: not comfortable Tennessee minus seven, and I'm definitely not comfortable
- 48:55Speaker 2: Auburn either in this game.
- 48:57Speaker 1: So I like the under. I tend to think it's
- 49:01Speaker 1: a fast start that becomes a slog. I think the
- 49:05Speaker 1: rain is coming later in the day. But it's a
- 49:09Speaker 1: percentage chance. I mean, I wouldn't want to sit out
- 49:10Speaker 1: and watch this game is basically what I'm saying. I
- 49:13Speaker 1: would be from the comfort of my own home. The
- 49:15Speaker 1: best seat in the house, Chad.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got a softball tournament on Saturday that we're
- 49:20Speaker 2: trying to see if we're going to play it or not.
- 49:21Speaker 2: But it's one of those days where it's like a 95%
- 49:23Speaker 2: chance of rain at some point. It's not going to
- 49:26Speaker 2: rain all day, but it's going to hit at some point.
- 49:29Speaker 2: How long does it last? How bad is it? You know,
- 49:32Speaker 2: it could just be a quick shower and you're done
- 49:34Speaker 2: and the conditions are totally fine. Or you could be
- 49:36Speaker 2: playing in a monsoon. That's what Tennessee and Auburn could
- 49:39Speaker 2: look like on Saturday too.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Hey, roll with us. Chad's taking Louisville minus three and
- 49:44Speaker 1: a half, and I've got my hard rock lock of
- 49:47Speaker 1: the week. Tennessee, the under 55 and a half total
- 49:50Speaker 1: points as they take on Auburn. Thursday night football tonight,
- 49:54Speaker 1: Steelers and Browns. Again, that line, Steelers favored by two
- 49:57Speaker 1: and a half on the road, over under at 38
- 50:00Speaker 1: and a half. I was fooled last week, Chad. I
- 50:03Speaker 1: was fooled last week by the Falcons. If the Browns
- 50:06Speaker 1: pull this off, Are they going to cheer Watson? We'll
- 50:11Speaker 1: find out. Hey, fun show today, man. We're back at
- 50:14Speaker 1: it tomorrow morning, 8 a.m. Eastern, right here at Sporting State.
- 50:18Speaker 1: It's Hutton and Withrow, presented by Hard Rock Bet.
