- Brandon: Well, welcome to another episode of the Daily Word Podcast. My name is Brandon, one of the pastors here at our church. And on behalf of all of our pastors, leaders, the team, ⁓ thank you so much for listening and for joining us each day. I know I've been saying this, at least I feel like I've been saying it pretty frequently. ⁓ but please do, please do help us to get the word out about this podcast. ⁓ was just talking to someone earlier today. And they said, you know, I'm I'm just thinking about how do we help more people spend time with God and and know that God really does want to talk to them. And this isn't the end all be all, but it is a resource that we're trying to use to help people. And so whatever you can do to help us help people, we appreciate that. That being said, ⁓ our rhythm on the Daily Word Podcast is simply to take time and share from the scripture what we believe God is speaking to us as an encouragement to you. But then also use that as an opportunity for you to then take that and be reminded that God wants to speak to me in a very personal way as I go spend time with him. So we're taking the reading out of the New Testament portion of the Life Journal reading plan. It's the reading plan that we use as a church. And today's reading, August the 15th, today's reading is John chapter 17. John chapter 17. And I want to read you this one verse. ⁓ this is the this is Jesus talking and he's talking about his disciples. And he says this John chapter 17, verse 17 sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth. Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth. Now this may be a no-no on the Daily Word podcast, but let me give you one more verse and let this be a teaching opportunity that often when I'm reading and I'm do it doing my my my my daily devotions, ⁓ I'm cross-referencing scriptures. So this is scripture that will stick out to me, and that's really interesting, and God's speaking to me. But then I'll I'll cross-reference other scriptures that I know that that maybe say the same thing or or give me more insight into it. And that's what I want to do for you. Second Timothy 3:16 through 17 says this: all scriptures given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. John 17, 17, Jesus said, Sanctify them, purify them, cleanse them, mold and shape them and cause them to become conformed into the image of God, to be more like Jesus. Sanctify them by your word. Or or by the truth rather. Sanctify them by your truth. And he says, and your truth, it's the word. Your word is the truth. What we see here is that the word of God, the truth of God's word, it really does have a ⁓ powerful effect in sanctifying us or helping us to become more like God. So 2 Timothy 3 16 through 17 says that all scriptures given by inspiration of God, and part of its use, it's profitable. It's It's it's its purpose is to teach us and correct us and train us in righteousness so that we can become complete and thoroughly equipped. What I'm reminded of today, and what I'm catching out of these passages, is that the word of God is so important in our life. I don't just mean listening to the Daily Word podcast. I mean giving God's word a priority in our life. We gotta read our Bibles. We just say that again. We we gotta read our Bibles. We gotta take time on a daily basis to open the scripture and read and study and listen and say, ⁓ Lord Jesus, would you through your word, would you sanctify me? Would your truth, would it sanctify me? Would would your words, would it change me? Would it transform me from the inside out? For this is what Jesus said. God, I'm praying. That they would be sanctified by your truth. Your truth that is your word. And it's what Paul writes that God's word is profitable. And so my my ⁓ application today, if if I'm given an application, my application is that we really do have to be students of God's word. And I don't mean students in the sense that we need to get smarter or spend ⁓ time, you know, getting our the ⁓ theology degree or or or I don't mean it in that way. What I mean is that we need become students of God's word for our daily living. That then we need to to really be taking time to say, God, I I want your word to teach me and train me and cause me to see things that I don't see right now. And and God, God, would it correct me? What what would it would it sharpen areas of my life and would it chip off areas of my life that don't need to be there? God, would your word do what it needs to do in me that I might become more like you? And here's my question. Are you reading the Bible? First of all, let's start there. Are you reading the Bible? Are you spending time on a daily basis? We'll say every other day basis, weekly basis, where you're coming to God's word and prayerfully saying, God, speak to me. God, speak to me. Are you doing that? Maybe not only are you reading the Bible, but are are you coming to God's word and are you approaching it in that way where you say, God, my whole life is open to you? There's no part of my life that's hidden. My whole life, it is open to you. Do in me what only you can do, because this is the will of God, that we be sanctified, that we become more like Jesus, that we be molded and shaped, conformed into the image of the Son of God, that is Jesus. And part of how that sanctification happens is it happens as the truth of God's word gets in our heart and gets in our life and changes us. Again, Jesus said. Sanctify them by your truth. Your word, it is truth. Again, Paul writes, This book is profitable for teaching, training, correcting our life that we may become thoroughly equipped. So my encouragement to you today is that you would in ⁓ a fresh way approach the scripture, that you would in a fresh way commit to the scripture and say, God, I want you through your word to change me and transform me on a regular basis. I hope that's been encouraging to you today. I hope it's insightful to you. And I hope it gives you something that you can put into practice starting today. Again, God wants to speak to you. God wants to meet with you. So go find a time today and on a regular basis to spend time with God through his word. Lord Jesus, today, as we've received these words, help us to give your word a priority and a place in our life that is due and that it deserves God. God, I pray that as we spend time in your word, that you really would speak to us and talk to us and change and transform us from the inside out. In Jesus' name, amen. Thank you again for joining us, and we'll see you tomorrow on another episode of the Daily Word podcast.
