Transcript
- 0:08So we're live here at Manifest and impromptu interview here.
- 0:11I just ran into Jake Claire from Event Shark.
- 0:14How we doing, Jake?
- 0:14Yo, what's up, Dave?
- 0:17Power personal brand.
- 0:18Right.
- 0:18I think that's what we wanted to talk about on this.
- 0:19But I know Dave just from a prior company, interacted with Dave and then just been connected with you.
- 0:26And then Dave has a newsletter in logistics.
- 0:29Not a ton of people are making content in logistics.
- 0:32So I recognized Dave, came up to him and said, what's up?
- 0:35And now we're here shooting a podcast.
- 0:36Yes, yes.
- 0:37And always love collaborating with other creators.
- 0:40And I see you on LinkedIn, you got the content branding agency.
- 0:46So I always see you in warehouses.
- 0:48I always see you helping people with their content.
- 0:50I mean, just talk to us today in 2020, 26.
- 0:53Why is personal branding for a business so important?
- 0:58Great question, great question.
- 1:00I think especially in the logistics industry, logistics is behind the eight ball when it comes to traditional marketing.
- 1:05Like, personal branding has always been really important for just consumer branding, D2C branding.
- 1:10Right.
- 1:11Personal brand has been huge for all those industries.
- 1:13Right.
- 1:14But logistics is catching up, which is really exciting because creating content is such a blue ocean right now with.
- 1:21With logistics.
- 1:22So it gets me excited.
- 1:23I love shooting content with warehousing and fulfillment because not a lot of people are doing it.
- 1:30So you can really stand out.
- 1:31So it's perfect time to be, you know, doing personal branding, especially in this industry.
- 1:35Yeah.
- 1:35People ask me all the time what, why I do it.
- 1:38And I say, like, as a3PL, a brand that you're dealing with, their livelihood typically is their inventory.
- 1:45And so if they're gonna trust you to send that to you, and they don't know who you are, you're a faceless, nameless brand that automatically puts you at a disadvantage.
- 1:53So just the ability to get out there, let people know who you are, have conversations on camera, put content out consistently, I think gives you a big leg up.
- 2:00Yeah.
- 2:00And I'll chime in on that because it's the best way to nurture someone without being overly salesy.
- 2:06Right.
- 2:06In traditional sales and marketing.
- 2:08Right.
- 2:09I'm a sales rep and I need to keep reaching out to my buyer and keep checking with them every few months to make sure they're ready to buy.
- 2:14As you.
- 2:15As you might know, 95% of buyers aren't ready to buy.
- 2:18Only about 5% to 3% or 5% to 1%, something like that are in market ready to buy.
- 2:24And what's the best way to stay top of mind is you can Meet with them, you know, maybe meet them one time in person.
- 2:29And then you connect with them on LinkedIn, which is a typical channel for B2B.
- 2:33Right.
- 2:34And then you're able to stay top of mind with these people building trust with just creating content.
- 2:39And then now when they are ready to buy, you're the first person that comes to mind.
- 2:43Absolutely, absolutely.
- 2:45So we're here at manifest 2026.
- 2:47What do you think the vibe of the show is?
- 2:50I think there's a lot of excitement right now in the industry.
- 2:54I'm noticing a lot more cameras actually last year, the last few years when I've been.
- 2:58Last year was the first time I came to Manifest, actually was my first time at the conference.
- 3:03One of the few people that actually had a camera.
- 3:05And I've been noticing more people shooting content like you.
- 3:07Right now you're shooting content.
- 3:09I think content creation in this space is becoming more the norm, which is really exciting.
- 3:14And more people are.
- 3:17And more people are open to doing it, which is.
- 3:20Which is the vibe I'm getting.
- 3:21What's the vibe for you so far?
- 3:23Lot of optimism, lot of excitement.
- 3:26And then, you know, I did a post about this earlier too.
- 3:29Like I've had.
- 3:30I think the most valuable part is just getting time in front of all these people you may know and the new people you meet and having real conversations that you can't have over zoom or as you're having dinner
- 3:42with people and you really get into more personal details, but just a lot of conversations around AI, how people are implementing it, different challenges they're using it to solve, how they're bringing value to the market.
- 3:54And just I've got so many different ideas just from all the different people I've met and interacted with.
- 4:00So that's really the most valuable part.
- 4:01Of it for me.
- 4:02Yeah.
- 4:02I mean, especially in the day of AI, right?
- 4:04Everything's becoming more digital.
- 4:05That's why I'm super bullish on events.
- 4:08Event company's called Event Shark.
- 4:10We've been bullish on events.
- 4:11But in person content is so much more powerful in my opinion, because you're not behind the zoom screen.
- 4:19Obviously it's harder to do in person content.
- 4:21That's why I think there is a moat with.
- 4:23That's why coming to events like Manifest, being able to batch content.
- 4:26Have you been shooting a bunch of podcasts here in person?
- 4:28If your business is an E commerce brand, this message is for you.

- 5:13Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:15So I've been interviews on the floor.
- 5:16I got a bunch of people come in the studio here this afternoon.
- 5:19So just.
- 5:21Yeah.
- 5:21Always looking to get good conversations.
- 5:23Like on tape.
- 5:24Yeah.
- 5:25What, what kind of takeaways have you had so far?
- 5:27Just in the AI world so far.
- 5:29I mean, just really like when it first came on, right.
- 5:34There was all this fear about, oh, it's going to take jobs.
- 5:37And I was even having conversations where I've seen big companies literally do this like last jobs and put an AI in place of human and it's failed miserably.
- 5:46Totally.
- 5:47And it's like it's all about how you interact with it.
- 5:50And it's not going to just replace the whole human workforce.
- 5:54It's a tool to make people more efficient.
- 5:56And you're either going to embrace it, understand it, use it, get better, or you're going to be left behind.
- 6:02But I mean, all the conversations I've had is all types of different ideas on how we can all use it it to be more efficient, be more productive and just get more done in less time.
- 6:13Yeah.
- 6:13And I would say one of the themes, I went to a conference in Dubai which is some of the best content creators in the world.
- 6:19And I got a ton of really good takeaways from that.
- 6:21One of the things was live content posting quickly with like timing to posting content is really important when it's relevant.
- 6:28But another thing I got was that creating content is becoming easier with AI, but you can't obviously take away like the authentic authenticity and the person behind there.
- 6:40But using AI, you can kind of create better systems to get your content out there better, like internal systems.
- 6:46Because right now, as we're even talking about like more people are creating content, so it's becoming a little bit more competitive.
- 6:52So we can kind of use AI to like create better workflows and systems for your content.
- 6:57But obviously you can't take away the real person behind the camera.
- 7:01Yeah.
- 7:01And I think that bodes well, especially for a company like yours, because in this age of AI and like, let's Just be honest, when you see AI written content, it's so obvious.
- 7:10Right.
- 7:11AI Slop is what they like to call it.
- 7:13Yeah, yeah.
- 7:13AI Slop.
- 7:14And it's like people, that's that because the market is so saturated with that, that just makes authenticity and the human.
- 7:24Real human connection.
- 7:25People.
- 7:26People crave that even more so.
- 7:27And again, video, right.
- 7:29Real video like you're shooting is something that whether you're branding, whether you're showing off your warehouse, whether you're whatever you're doing with your business, that resonates with people all the much more because of all the AI slap that's
- 7:40out there.
- 7:40Totally.
- 7:41So how has been your experience with.
- 7:43You have a newsletter and like you've been creating content consistently.
- 7:48How many episodes are you on your podcast?
- 7:50240 something.
- 7:51240 something.
- 7:52I remember when you actually started started and like you actually stuck.
- 7:55Stuck with it, which is pretty impressive.
- 7:56Yeah.
- 7:58And you have also the.
- 7:59I was just came up to Dave because I subscribed to his newsletter so I get his LinkedIn notifications every once in a while.
- 8:05Which keeps you top of mind.
- 8:06Right.
- 8:06So when you now have that familiarity and come up come up to you and save my brand, like looking for a 3 PL like when if I was ready to buy, like I'd be the person, you'd be the
- 8:15person I think of.
- 8:16So content, personal branding, so important, right?
- 8:18Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:19Absolutely love it.
- 8:20And yeah.
- 8:21Glad you recognize that.
- 8:23And sometimes it blows my mind too because I remember when I started and I had all and I was like, I didn't even know what I was doing.
- 8:29All I knew is I was doing it.
- 8:31And it's amazing when you start before you're ready, you keep going, you get better as you go and you stay consistent.
- 8:37What that can turn into.
- 8:38So yeah, yeah, I'll say your first content is going to suck.
- 8:42If you're just getting started with it, it's going to be really bad.
- 8:44But if as long as you are getting micro improvements on your content, it's gonna slowly get better.
- 8:49So hopefully episode 200 something is better than episode one, which I'm sure it is because you've been doing it all.
- 8:56You've been getting the reps in now.
- 8:57Yeah, yeah.
- 8:58100% and yeah.
- 8:59So.
- 9:00And people come up to me all the time and say, man, that's great.
- 9:03You know, I would love to do that or I thought about doing it.
- 9:05So if you have that ambition, you have that idea, just start, keep going and you'll be amazed at what can happen.
- 9:11All right.
- 9:12What else?
- 9:12Do you have anything else?
- 9:13Are we good here?
- 9:13I think we're good.
- 9:14All right, cool.
- 9:15Cool.
- 9:15That's a wrap.
- 9:17That's a wrap.
- 9:18What's the podcast called again?
- 9:19Beyond Fulfillment.
- 9:21Go check out Beyond Fulfillment.
- 9:22If you're listening to.
- 9:23If you want to get more.
- 9:25What's.
- 9:25What.
- 9:26You mostly talk about warehousing.
- 9:27Yeah.
- 9:27It's not.
- 9:27It's actually about entrepreneurship, so it's about the entrepreneurial journey, what it's really like, pivots, mistakes, how people overcame challenges, and that's what's right.
- 9:37All right, that's a wrap.
- 9:39Cool.
- 9:39Thanks.
- 9:39All right.
- 9:40Awesome, man.
- 9:41Yeah.
