- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm your host, Colleen Witt, and today we have very
- 0:06Speaker 1: special guest, comedian Justin Whitehead in the building.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Thank you for having me.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Thank you for giving us the time.
- 0:14Speaker 2: It's nothing I appreciate being.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I like a good a good free meal, and I
- 0:20Speaker 1: guess we do. I guess on this show is going
- 0:22Speaker 1: to be a budget friendly meal. Yes, So what are
- 0:25Speaker 1: you going to be having me eat today?
- 0:28Speaker 3: I will be having you eat chicken and rice today.
- 0:30Speaker 3: That is something. I don't care where you are, what
- 0:35Speaker 3: group you belong to. You eat chicken and rice in
- 0:37Speaker 3: some form of fashion. It might be fried chicken and rice,
- 0:39Speaker 3: might be orange chicken and rice, but you still eat
- 0:43Speaker 3: chicken and rice.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Justin, you were really sweet because you worked with us today.
- 1:10Speaker 1: But I know your original meal was Popeye's chicken. Yes,
- 1:14Speaker 1: so take me back to the air of the Popeye'
- 1:17Speaker 1: chicken slash chicken and rice air of your life.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Well, I ate more just chicken and rice than I
- 1:23Speaker 3: did Pope's because I only ate Pope's on they had
- 1:26Speaker 3: to six dollars big box.
- 1:28Speaker 2: You laughing ship, I'm.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Laughing at your accent is so strong. I'm sorry the
- 1:36Speaker 1: Forrest Gump movie a little bit.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Well, damn.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It doesn't. It doesn't like when you're like the big
- 1:43Speaker 1: box like you know, Mama said, get a box.
- 1:47Speaker 3: I see what you think of me. No, but no, seriously,
- 1:52Speaker 3: Popee's is uh. I'm gonna get up and walk the
- 1:56Speaker 3: funk out.
- 1:57Speaker 2: If you're gonna keep laughing at me, we ain't gonna
- 1:59Speaker 2: make it. We gonna even get the chicken.
- 2:01Speaker 1: But your accent, I'm in love with this accent.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I appreciate it. Sorry, but no, serious, Pope's is expensive.
- 2:15Speaker 2: You don't just go.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Sorry, don't you go ahead, go ahead and get it out.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna be imitating you for the rest of the night.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Okay, don't don't let my vernacular and the way I
- 2:33Speaker 3: pronounce my words hold us up in it longer. But no, seriously,
- 2:38Speaker 3: Pope's is expensive. You don't just go to it. And
- 2:41Speaker 3: and you know, if you ain't got no money, if
- 2:43Speaker 3: you're on a budget, you don't go to popeye'es.
- 2:45Speaker 2: You might hit churches or somewhere like that, but you
- 2:47Speaker 2: don't go to Pope's.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It's so strong, Okay, would you would you prefer that
- 2:59Speaker 1: I talked this way.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Maybe we could continue I speak a little more.
- 3:07Speaker 1: No, no, I love your accent. But you can start
- 3:09Speaker 1: cooking for me.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Oh you read it?
- 3:11Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, start cooking.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Is this hot?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah? I preheated it?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Cool.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I appreciate that. They told me that. Come to your podcast.
- 3:21Speaker 3: They said, she preheat the ship for you and everything.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I said, That's where I'm going.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So tell me. Tell me what was going on at
- 3:28Speaker 1: the time of chicken and rice, popeye, six dollars.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Boxes and all that were broke ship.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Yeah, but tell me what was going on like the
- 3:36Speaker 1: whole thing, Like, are you living at home?
- 3:39Speaker 2: No?
- 3:39Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, living at home with my folks?
- 3:41Speaker 3: I ate good, yes they I'm talking about a meal every.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Day, but like three meals a day.
- 3:47Speaker 2: I'm not gonna say like that. It just was decent meal.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It was a full meal.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Did you grow a poor two pair of household?
- 3:54Speaker 2: I wouldn't poor, but I wouldn't rich.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I wouldn't like middle class family for.
- 4:01Speaker 3: My neighborhood, I guess because my mom was a teacher.
- 4:08Speaker 3: She taught second grade for like twenty years, and then
- 4:10Speaker 3: she became assistant principal for like fifteen. My dad was
- 4:14Speaker 3: a fireman and a paramedic. So we was cool, you
- 4:17Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. But it was it was five kids,
- 4:19Speaker 3: so you know, yeah, so you know it's we weren't poor,
- 4:23Speaker 3: but you just don't get every damn thing.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You won't you're not spoiled or whatever.
- 4:26Speaker 3: But I did not miss anything. I didn't land for anything.
- 4:31Speaker 3: So you know, I don't have one of those poor
- 4:33Speaker 3: ass stores. You know, my lights was on, we had washing,
- 4:36Speaker 3: dry your cable, own room.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Get your own room. Kid. You didn't have to share.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Nobody, no, I'm telling you. But okay, well, two of
- 4:44Speaker 3: the kids wasn't in the house. My mama had a
- 4:47Speaker 3: son and my dad had a son before they got together.
- 4:50Speaker 3: So my dad's son was with his mom, and my
- 4:52Speaker 3: mama's oldest son was gone.
- 4:55Speaker 2: He was grown like he was.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Okay, so yeah that's okay, you got yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 5:01Speaker 1: it was just three of us in the house. Okay.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know, no, I was we you know,
- 5:06Speaker 3: it's good. My mom and dad are still together thirty
- 5:08Speaker 3: seven years to that.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yeah, so now let's go back to Okay, you're on
- 5:14Speaker 1: your own getting the meals every day.
- 5:17Speaker 2: That's when I moved to Atlanta, to pursue my comedy career.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And where are you from?
- 5:21Speaker 3: Originally I'm from the Solda, Georgia. It's like two and
- 5:25Speaker 3: a half hours south of Atlanta. Okay, so that's when.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I started the struggle meals, you know, where you're on
- 5:33Speaker 2: the budget and ship like that.
- 5:35Speaker 3: But yeah, I was cooking anything then that that you
- 5:39Speaker 3: could just throw in some hot grease or in the oven. Yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 3: and that's where the chicken came from. As you can
- 5:45Speaker 3: see it, it's still thawing out. This is the tys
- 5:49Speaker 3: uh Tyson chicken.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's pre cooked, so all you have to
- 5:52Speaker 1: do is really heat it up. I try to, I
- 5:54Speaker 1: try to.
- 5:55Speaker 2: See why do you answered your own question?
- 5:59Speaker 1: So you were pursuing comedy. Yes, where did this stuff
- 6:02Speaker 1: for comedy come from?
- 6:04Speaker 3: Well, you know, to be honest, I've been infatuated with
- 6:07Speaker 3: comedy my whole life, but I never wanted to do it.
- 6:11Speaker 3: It was never If you asked anybody that knew me
- 6:14Speaker 3: growing up, they would never tell you that I said
- 6:16Speaker 3: I wanted to be a comedian. Now, if you was
- 6:18Speaker 3: paying attention, you may say, okay, that was something I
- 6:22Speaker 3: see it. Because I've always been obsessed with I never
- 6:25Speaker 3: wanted to watch anything else.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I never cared about anything else.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Well, I take that back. I was obsessed with it
- 6:34Speaker 3: as a kid, but when I found out that it
- 6:39Speaker 3: was actually medicine, that's when I became infatuated with it.
- 6:44Speaker 2: It heals you, and it.
- 6:47Speaker 3: It saved me from a lot because I had a
- 6:51Speaker 3: real dark childhood and.
- 6:56Speaker 2: It saved me. You know what I'm saying, it was,
- 6:58Speaker 2: it healed me. It was so when I saw what
- 7:00Speaker 2: it could do for me and what it could do
- 7:02Speaker 2: for my dad.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Can you said you had a dark charleshood?
- 7:06Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 7:11Speaker 3: I had a Okay, Well I was bullied a lot
- 7:14Speaker 3: in school, not beat up, just you know, picked on
- 7:17Speaker 3: because of you know, I didn't I wasn't like all
- 7:20Speaker 3: the other kids. I was always different. I just I
- 7:22Speaker 3: carried myself different. I moved different. And then you know
- 7:25Speaker 3: what your mama being the teacher and stuff. At school,
- 7:27Speaker 3: it's just you know, they just find shit to pick
- 7:29Speaker 3: on you about. So that was one thing that my
- 7:33Speaker 3: daddy was really really, really really hard on me growing up.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Marine just you know, so I was dark a lot,
- 7:43Speaker 3: But when I saw comedy made him a nicer person.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I used to go out and find it just to
- 7:48Speaker 2: keep him from whipping my ass.
- 7:50Speaker 1: You would go out and find the tapes or DVDs whatever.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I wasn't studying it because still at that moment, I
- 7:57Speaker 3: didn't want to be a comedian.
- 7:58Speaker 1: But you were finding the content to give to.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Him to play, just to get him in a better mood,
- 8:03Speaker 3: because he had so much on him. He was just
- 8:06Speaker 3: always just this mean, mad person, and comedy was the
- 8:11Speaker 3: only thing that took him.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Out of that.
- 8:15Speaker 3: That was the only thing that took him out of that,
- 8:17Speaker 3: that made him the person that we wanted to be around,
- 8:21Speaker 3: made him, made him smile, made him laugh.
- 8:24Speaker 2: And that's something we didn't get to see.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Did everyone else catch on to that secret medicine or
- 8:30Speaker 1: was it just you and you didn't share it with
- 8:33Speaker 1: the whole house? Like yo, if we get a bunch
- 8:35Speaker 1: of comedy around him in a better.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Mood, it was nothing that I had to share.
- 8:40Speaker 3: It was just I think everybody just pretty much called
- 8:43Speaker 3: on because it was very obvious, like what makes my
- 8:47Speaker 3: daddy happy or what.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Makes him laugh?
- 8:49Speaker 3: So first I would just pay attention to who made
- 8:53Speaker 3: him laugh, and then I would try to go out
- 8:55Speaker 3: and find comedians that would make him laugh, like RNASJ.
- 8:59Speaker 3: He won't make it through a whole RNASSJ set because
- 9:02Speaker 3: he's gonna die. He loves RNAs J and a lot
- 9:07Speaker 3: of the people who's on Coming View. So whatever Coming
- 9:09Speaker 3: View used to come on, I would go back in
- 9:12Speaker 3: his room and watch it with him and kind of
- 9:15Speaker 3: take notes of whatever comedians made him laugh, and then
- 9:18Speaker 3: I'll go out and try to find like whatever they
- 9:21Speaker 3: was on, like if I catch them on the cover
- 9:23Speaker 3: of a DVD, or I'll look him up on the
- 9:25Speaker 3: internet and see what type of show that might be on.
- 9:29Speaker 3: And that's when my love for comedy just really skyrocket,
- 9:32Speaker 3: because not only is he watching it, I'm watching it too,
- 9:36Speaker 3: And it was.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Just did it become like a bonding experience between.
- 9:40Speaker 3: The Bose view, Yes, because he, to be honest, he
- 9:42Speaker 3: introduced me to comedy. Like part of me believe he
- 9:46Speaker 3: wished he could have been the comedian. He just didn't
- 9:49Speaker 3: do it because my dad had to go to prison.
- 9:55Speaker 3: When I was a kid, like three years old. He
- 9:58Speaker 3: was a police officer and he wasn't the most on
- 10:02Speaker 3: his police officers.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So very much, so.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Very very much so. But in fact, since you brought
- 10:15Speaker 3: up training day. His partner was a white guy who
- 10:18Speaker 3: rolled over on him. He got caught doing whatever they
- 10:21Speaker 3: were doing, so they gave him chances, you know, say
- 10:24Speaker 3: he did it and gave him immunity. So my dad
- 10:27Speaker 3: had to go away for a little while. He came
- 10:30Speaker 3: home and we came home. He he was on some
- 10:35Speaker 3: other type of comedy like I like again, I was
- 10:37Speaker 3: always obsessed with it as a kid. So before him
- 10:40Speaker 3: introducing me to the raw comedy, I was looking at
- 10:44Speaker 3: stuff like mister Bean and Samford and not Sanford and
- 10:48Speaker 3: Son because it's difference. Like I would look at whatever
- 10:51Speaker 3: my grandma would watch. When he came home, he put
- 10:55Speaker 3: me on the Dolomite, you know, Rudy ray Moore, he
- 10:59Speaker 3: put me on Burnie. He put me on the Red
- 11:02Speaker 3: Fox albums and not just him on TV and stuff
- 11:06Speaker 3: like that. That's when I saw it was a different
- 11:07Speaker 3: Eddie Murphy other than you know, Beverly Hill Cops three
- 11:14Speaker 3: or whatever. That's when I saw the you know, first
- 11:16Speaker 3: two Beverly Hill Cops, Trading Places.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Forty eight hours and stuff like that. And then that's.
- 11:23Speaker 3: When, like I said, that's when I really just fell
- 11:24Speaker 3: in love with comedy for real, that's all I ever
- 11:26Speaker 3: wanted to watch. That's all that ever intrigued me, to
- 11:30Speaker 3: be honest. Okay, but yeah too some all of that
- 11:36Speaker 3: up it was medicine.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Okay. So then you move out on your own? Is
- 11:41Speaker 1: this after high school? After?
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a while after high school because up
- 11:47Speaker 3: until my senior year in high school, I wanted to
- 11:50Speaker 3: be an attorney.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Oh wow, Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I didn't want to do nothing because I don't like attention.
- 11:56Speaker 2: I'm shy. I'd just rather be in the background. I
- 12:00Speaker 2: wanted money. I know that.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I always knew I was gonna do something, even as
- 12:04Speaker 3: a kid. I knew I was gonna do something on
- 12:06Speaker 3: a grand scale. I just didn't know what it was.
- 12:08Speaker 3: So it was like we had a senior project. I
- 12:13Speaker 3: don't know if everybody do it, but at my school
- 12:14Speaker 3: we had a senior project. And doing the senior project,
- 12:22Speaker 3: you had to I think like at the end of it,
- 12:25Speaker 3: you go into the library and apply for colleges or
- 12:29Speaker 3: something like that. And it was my turn to do it.
- 12:32Speaker 3: And we're sitting in front of the computer and the like,
- 12:36Speaker 3: choose three schools that you're interested in going to, and
- 12:38Speaker 3: I did not have one. I want to be a lawyer,
- 12:43Speaker 3: but I don't want to go to school, and I'm like,
- 12:45Speaker 3: I'm tired of it, like for real, like I'm tired
- 12:47Speaker 3: of school. I don't feel it anymore. And I'm the
- 12:49Speaker 3: type of person I'm not gonna waste time. I'm not
- 12:50Speaker 3: gonna waste money. So I'm like, you know what, I'm
- 12:52Speaker 3: not going. And all the teachers was like, you think
- 12:55Speaker 3: your mama gonna allow that because they knew her, they
- 12:57Speaker 3: co worked or whatever, and right at this moment, she's
- 13:02Speaker 3: an assistant principal, right, So.
- 13:06Speaker 2: I'm like, I really don't give a fuck.
- 13:11Speaker 3: It is what it is, So you know, I it
- 13:14Speaker 3: wasn't a conversation that I was just ready to have
- 13:16Speaker 3: with my parents. And by that time, anyway, I wasn't
- 13:20Speaker 3: even staying in my parents' house anymore. I had moved
- 13:22Speaker 3: out with my grandma because me and my dad just
- 13:24Speaker 3: wasn't getting along, you know what I'm saying. So I
- 13:29Speaker 3: didn't really care what anybody thought.
- 13:32Speaker 1: It was. To deliver the I'm not going to college
- 13:35Speaker 1: news from the grandma's.
- 13:36Speaker 3: House too, well, I would have delivered it from anywhere,
- 13:38Speaker 3: because you can't make me go. But my daddy wanted
- 13:42Speaker 3: me to go in the Marines anyway, because.
- 13:43Speaker 2: That's what he needed.
- 13:44Speaker 3: But I felt like I've been living with him all
- 13:46Speaker 3: these years. I've been in the Marines, so ain't it
- 13:48Speaker 3: needed me going.
- 13:50Speaker 2: My mama?
- 13:51Speaker 3: Surprisingly, she was like, school ain't for everybody, okay, but
- 13:57Speaker 3: you gotta do something.
- 13:59Speaker 2: But it was you know.
- 14:01Speaker 3: I've watched her get her master's and and you know,
- 14:05Speaker 3: leadership degree and stuff like that, and I just knew
- 14:07Speaker 3: she was gonna be like, oh, I wanted you to
- 14:09Speaker 3: go to school. I had so many plans, but nah,
- 14:12Speaker 3: she was like, do something, so I ain't gonna lie it.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I got out of school two thousand and six. I
- 14:23Speaker 3: didn't move to Atlanta and start pursuing my dream until
- 14:26Speaker 3: two thousand and twelve. I just used that time to
- 14:32Speaker 3: find myself because I didn't really didn't know who I was.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I really still don't.
- 14:35Speaker 1: But and in that time, were you working regular jobs?
- 14:38Speaker 2: I worked maybe three regular jobs before I figured that
- 14:44Speaker 2: I was not a good employee.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I worked at a cell phone company that's back when
- 14:49Speaker 3: Sprint and Next Tail.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Had the churchs Remember that, Yeah, yeah.
- 14:52Speaker 3: I worked there for a little while and then it
- 14:58Speaker 3: went out of business because it was at in the mall.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So that store went out of business and I just
- 15:03Speaker 3: was like fuck it. I went and got a job
- 15:05Speaker 3: at Dealers in the mall and I was selling men
- 15:07Speaker 3: and women fragrances in the mall, and that's what my
- 15:10Speaker 3: love for fragrances, you know, kind of took off also.
- 15:14Speaker 3: But I worked there and after Dealers, that was it.
- 15:21Speaker 3: And that's when I really.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Began to kind of make a choice.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Well, yeah, yeah, somewhat, I started doing other ship. That's
- 15:31Speaker 3: when I you know, kind of dabbled in the streets
- 15:32Speaker 3: a little bit. Well I wasn't selling cologne in the
- 15:38Speaker 3: streets then, but no, yeah, I ended up catching some charges.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I beat the charges, and.
- 15:44Speaker 3: That's when I just, you know, it's like it's I
- 15:48Speaker 3: know what I need to do now because I wasn't
- 15:49Speaker 3: good at nothing else.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And what what did you what was that decision? Comedy?
- 15:54Speaker 2: Yes, because it was I wasn't good at nothing else.
- 15:56Speaker 3: It was just like I could not eat without thinking
- 15:59Speaker 3: about comedy. I could sleep without thinking about coming it.
- 16:01Speaker 3: It was just that was it. It had become my life.
- 16:04Speaker 3: It had taken over. So I knew I had to
- 16:06Speaker 3: do it because it was like I really believe in God, like,
- 16:09Speaker 3: I'm a firm believer. So I knew, like I heard it,
- 16:12Speaker 3: I knew it was a conversation. I knew he was
- 16:14Speaker 3: talking to me like you go and do it, Go
- 16:17Speaker 3: and do it. But I just was trying to do
- 16:20Speaker 3: what I wanted to do and I ended up getting
- 16:22Speaker 3: in trouble. I beat those charges.
- 16:27Speaker 1: And that's when you made the decision.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it was like I made a deal with God.
- 16:32Speaker 3: I was like, you get me out of this. I
- 16:33Speaker 3: go and do what you want me to do, okay,
- 16:36Speaker 3: And he got me out of it. So I knew
- 16:37Speaker 3: not to play with it. You know, that's one person
- 16:40Speaker 3: you don't want to renig on the bed with. So
- 16:44Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, I'm gonna go and do it.
- 16:46Speaker 3: And it's the only thing that has ever worked out
- 16:50Speaker 3: effortlessly to be honest.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Okay, So you start, well, first of all, I'm going
- 16:55Speaker 1: to pretend like I'm guy. Start cooking the chicken. Please start.
- 17:02Speaker 2: You get me in a conversation. I go talking all
- 17:04Speaker 2: goddamn y chicken. Yeah, because I was about to say,
- 17:08Speaker 2: you know, I just used to put mine in the oven.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I never just this is fancy to me. I don't
- 17:14Speaker 2: have to didn't I didn't have time for all of this.
- 17:16Speaker 3: I just used to want to put mine in the oven,
- 17:18Speaker 3: go back to my blunt and watch TV.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Oh okay, look you're using the butter knife and everything.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Use one of those. Uh, I'm I'm gonna stay out
- 17:26Speaker 1: out the kitchen.
- 17:27Speaker 2: And just hey, I was about to say, who cooking
- 17:29Speaker 2: this chicken meal? You? I'm fucking this cat? You hold
- 17:33Speaker 2: a tail.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Okay, So you start off in comedy and you said
- 17:39Speaker 1: it was effortless, as in, like your first time going.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Up, it was great, yes, and that was I couldn't
- 17:46Speaker 3: get that laughter out of my head and I knew, okay,
- 17:48Speaker 3: that's what I want to do for the rest of
- 17:49Speaker 3: my life.
- 17:50Speaker 1: So you got the laughter going, but did how was
- 17:53Speaker 1: the money going with the laughter?
- 17:56Speaker 2: The first show?
- 17:57Speaker 3: It was good because I was still standing avon, but
- 18:05Speaker 3: you're still I still I.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Was talking about how was the comedy laughter in the
- 18:10Speaker 1: comedy money.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Not that I wasn't making comedy money when I first.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I didn't make any money until ten years.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Okay, ten years, no money, no money.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Everything is you get paid in exposure or favors and ship.
- 18:24Speaker 2: I didn't make no money for ten years.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Okay, And during that ten years, what are the your
- 18:29Speaker 1: group around you saying at that time, what do you mean.
- 18:34Speaker 3: What group like the group of comedians, I mean few.
- 18:39Speaker 3: You had some that was encouraging. Of course, you had
- 18:41Speaker 3: some that would tell you, all, you need to go
- 18:43Speaker 3: to the military, or you need to get a job
- 18:46Speaker 3: or get a you know, learn a trade or some
- 18:48Speaker 3: ship like that. Now those are the same ones that,
- 18:51Speaker 3: God damn it, I knew you can do.
- 18:53Speaker 2: It, and I'd be like, you do that, yeah, because
- 18:57Speaker 2: you don't want you don't want me to reply.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So during those ten years, are you still
- 19:02Speaker 1: selling Avon?
- 19:03Speaker 2: No? Hell now, because I caught charges trying to sell Avon.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And your first comedy show.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I did my first comedy show at home. I didn't
- 19:12Speaker 3: do it in Atlanta because he's forced to get on stage.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Because people in my neighborhood they knew I was funny,
- 19:19Speaker 3: and they knew I.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Wanted to do it, so.
- 19:24Speaker 3: They put a show together because they knew I wasn't
- 19:26Speaker 3: gonna leave the streets so long to go do it.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I was the fast money. Is that That's all I
- 19:29Speaker 3: really gave a damn about.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Wasn't money.
- 19:31Speaker 3: So it was a guy who I'm actually related to
- 19:35Speaker 3: he was. He was in a military and he was
- 19:37Speaker 3: doing something up here in Atlanta. He ended up going
- 19:40Speaker 3: to uptown when it was on Marieta Street, and that's
- 19:42Speaker 3: when Cato was hosting like every Thursday night or every
- 19:45Speaker 3: weekend or something like that. He got Cat up to
- 19:48Speaker 3: come to our hometown to do a show. So he
- 19:53Speaker 3: was like, I'm gonna put you on it, but they
- 19:56Speaker 3: gonna do the rest of the show. So in order
- 20:02Speaker 3: to get people to buy the tickets, he put me
- 20:04Speaker 3: on the show. Okay, So he was like, you know,
- 20:06Speaker 3: we're just gonna give you, you know, five ten minutes
- 20:08Speaker 3: to go up front and then you know, that's it.
- 20:10Speaker 3: So I got my set together. I did not like
- 20:13Speaker 3: the first set at all. It just was horrible to me,
- 20:18Speaker 3: and I started looking at interviews my favorite comedians and
- 20:22Speaker 3: all of them said the same thing, be relatable.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yeah, So I just went back to the drawing board.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Okay.
- 20:27Speaker 3: And the first when I got on stage and delivered it,
- 20:30Speaker 3: I fucked around and said a joke twice, but it
- 20:33Speaker 3: was everything else was good, and I knew then all right, yeah,
- 20:35Speaker 3: I'm gone.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Okay, So ten years you're in the game doing comedy
- 20:52Speaker 1: at what point do you start making money. When does
- 20:56Speaker 1: the transition happen.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Like twenty seventeen, that's when I started doing just like
- 21:03Speaker 3: rant videos.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I was ranting about whatever would annoy me.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Okay, so you know, the videos a go viral and
- 21:11Speaker 3: you'll get a few slick ass comedians who are headlined
- 21:14Speaker 3: and thinking that, Okay, if I get a viral person,
- 21:16Speaker 3: I can throw them on the show and the tickets
- 21:18Speaker 3: or sale or whatever.
- 21:19Speaker 2: And it don't work like that in the beginning. Anyway.
- 21:21Speaker 2: You got to really create a fan base, so.
- 21:25Speaker 1: You start going viral off.
- 21:26Speaker 2: These yes, just ranting about whatever would annoy me, and
- 21:31Speaker 2: it it worked.
- 21:33Speaker 3: But I mean that's where I started to build a
- 21:37Speaker 3: fan base. When I started doing the my six hundred
- 21:42Speaker 3: Pound Life videos.
- 21:43Speaker 1: That's when it just skyrocketing.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't even know why people like that shit.
- 21:48Speaker 3: It was nothing that I planned to do.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Sell the backstorround. How you got to the six hundred Pound.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Life COVID when it shut everything down and comedians couldn't
- 21:59Speaker 3: get out and do comedy, we just it was just
- 22:01Speaker 3: like this.
- 22:04Speaker 2: It was almost like sexual frustration. Now you can kind
- 22:08Speaker 2: of duck off somewhere and relieve your sexual frustration. But
- 22:11Speaker 2: you that that that comedy itch.
- 22:13Speaker 3: You can't do it if you have a nice following
- 22:17Speaker 3: and you can go live on social media that kind
- 22:19Speaker 3: of like amn, like or jail, you know what I'm saying.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Temporarily relieve it, but if you really just gotta get
- 22:29Speaker 3: it off you, you gotta do something more.
- 22:31Speaker 2: So again, I had started to rent.
- 22:35Speaker 3: I would just sit in my car and smoke and
- 22:37Speaker 3: just talk to the camera, just go live with you know,
- 22:39Speaker 3: with my followers. But I ended up one night I
- 22:44Speaker 3: was I was actually getting ready.
- 22:46Speaker 2: To do that. I was rolling up a blunt.
- 22:47Speaker 3: I was about to go outside and go in the
- 22:50Speaker 3: car and do my video. Well, my godson was with
- 22:53Speaker 3: me because they was out of school. He was already
- 22:56Speaker 3: like familiar with the show My six hundred Pound Life,
- 22:58Speaker 3: so he was watching it. So it caught my attention
- 23:03Speaker 3: some type of way. I don't even remember, but I'm
- 23:06Speaker 3: looking at it and I'm giving my a disopinion about it,
- 23:10Speaker 3: not even knowing that he, you know, live or whatever
- 23:14Speaker 3: he was doing. So the video that he did ended
- 23:16Speaker 3: up getting like thirty thousand views within a day or two.
- 23:20Speaker 3: He don't even have any following or anything like that.
- 23:22Speaker 3: So I was like, I would have tried on my
- 23:24Speaker 3: own shit just to see where it goes. So the
- 23:27Speaker 3: first time I did it, he got like a million
- 23:29Speaker 3: views in a day and a half, but it's probably
- 23:31Speaker 3: thirty hours, to be honest, it's even a day and
- 23:33Speaker 3: a half.
- 23:34Speaker 1: So so the light bulb went off.
- 23:39Speaker 2: I mean it was yeah, it was more.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you can say that, because it was like, I'm
- 23:50Speaker 3: just gonna do it now to take advantage of this shutdown,
- 23:55Speaker 3: you know, because everybody's just tired of that. Everybody has
- 23:58Speaker 3: binge watched everything that nobody's mai paying attention to TV,
- 24:02Speaker 3: so it's whatever's on the phone. And that's when a
- 24:04Speaker 3: lot of people, you know, really popped off during COVID
- 24:06Speaker 3: time because everybody was just looking at social media and
- 24:08Speaker 3: shit like that. So yeah, I was just like, all right,
- 24:12Speaker 3: I'm just gonna take advantage of it while we're just
- 24:13Speaker 3: sitting here, you know, stuck.
- 24:15Speaker 2: In the house.
- 24:15Speaker 3: And then it became a demand like I would go
- 24:18Speaker 3: live just to go live, and then you would see
- 24:21Speaker 3: people in the comments saying, oh, we thought you were
- 24:23Speaker 3: watching TV or I'm like, well fuck me, then I
- 24:27Speaker 3: don't you know, I don't matter you want me yelling
- 24:29Speaker 3: at the TV, so that's all they want. When I
- 24:34Speaker 3: really saw how crazy it was, I sold like five
- 24:40Speaker 3: hundred tickets in Birmingham just so people can come and
- 24:48Speaker 3: watch me yell at that shit.
- 24:51Speaker 2: They don't give a damn. I would do an hour
- 24:53Speaker 2: and a half of stand up on stage. They love it.
- 24:56Speaker 2: But that six hundred pound life, Oh that's what they're
- 25:00Speaker 2: come for.
- 25:01Speaker 1: That's crazy. Does that still shocking to this day?
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yes? I am yes.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Is it a little frustrating because you have this comedy
- 25:14Speaker 1: that but then you have this like accidental hyper niche.
- 25:18Speaker 2: It is to a certain extent because.
- 25:23Speaker 3: It's more to me than that, and it was never
- 25:28Speaker 3: supposed to just beat that. I don't want nobody thinking that,
- 25:34Speaker 3: you know, I'm really that mean person who you know
- 25:39Speaker 3: what I'm saying, but it is what it is. I
- 25:42Speaker 3: just don't want to be stuck doing that. I want
- 25:43Speaker 3: to be putting right. Yeah, I don't want to just
- 25:46Speaker 3: be doing gathering at the TV or doing six hundred
- 25:50Speaker 3: pound life content because like I say, again, it's more
- 25:53Speaker 3: to me than that. But if that's what gonna keep
- 25:55Speaker 3: those tickets, I will yell at that motherfuckers.
- 25:59Speaker 2: That I need.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Does it start to feel like work after a while.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Nah, it's fun because I, like I said, I never
- 26:08Speaker 3: really just worked before. I've had a few jobs. I
- 26:10Speaker 3: don't I don't do anything that feels like work. I
- 26:17Speaker 3: don't scratch unless I itch now, don't dance unless I
- 26:20Speaker 3: like to beat.
- 26:21Speaker 2: So I'll go it.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Out, Okay, I like that.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but I ended up selling Avon.
- 26:30Speaker 1: So you ended up going back to selling Avon.
- 26:33Speaker 2: No, I'm talking about back then.
- 26:34Speaker 3: So yeah, so it really didn't matter, Like I didn't
- 26:37Speaker 3: have to you know what I'm saying, keep working.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I just chose to do that because I'm not a
- 26:41Speaker 2: good employee. I don't want to feel like I'm working.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I don't want to answer to anybody.
- 26:46Speaker 1: So so now your income is mainly off of just
- 26:50Speaker 1: comedy and the reviews of these shows.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Yes, and I would like for you to say that again,
- 26:57Speaker 3: that is where my income come.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Why you saying that, like you're still.
- 27:04Speaker 2: But no, yeah, I don't.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't even have the desire to do anything else,
- 27:08Speaker 3: to be honest, I'm too scared now. It's like when
- 27:11Speaker 3: I beat those charges, it was like the judge just
- 27:14Speaker 3: took my nuts and pride to he was.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Like, give me them.
- 27:17Speaker 3: You don't need them anymore because I'm not doing that ship.
- 27:20Speaker 3: They took me through the wire. I went all the
- 27:22Speaker 3: way to the end. I've seen people cop please, I've
- 27:25Speaker 3: seen people tell on people and everything to dodge the
- 27:28Speaker 3: type of ship I was on. But it was just
- 27:29Speaker 3: this belief I had, like I ain't going to jail.
- 27:33Speaker 1: But you didn't get to experience, not one day.
- 27:36Speaker 2: No.
- 27:36Speaker 3: When I first caught the charges, yeah, get jail. I
- 27:40Speaker 3: had Okay, all right, fuck, it's public record.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I had possessional cocaine.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I love anytime someone says, fuck it, let's go.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's I had possessional cocaine, possessional
- 27:52Speaker 3: fire aggravator, Salt'm the police officer, attempted to elude obstructional
- 27:57Speaker 3: officer Tampa with evidence, abandonment of a dangerous drug.
- 28:00Speaker 2: And was that seven or eight? Because I think I
- 28:03Speaker 2: had eight.
- 28:05Speaker 1: That sounds like a lot out have been scared, Okay,
- 28:07Speaker 1: making deals with Jesus.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Yeah, but I'm gonna tell you that that I didn't
- 28:11Speaker 3: know what I did was gonna give me all those charges.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I'm thinking because I got yes, trying to get rid
- 28:19Speaker 1: of the evidence.
- 28:20Speaker 2: That's when I.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Learned that you can get one charge and get too
- 28:24Speaker 3: because obstruction of officers.
- 28:26Speaker 1: And yeah, you edit officer, what is obstruction of.
- 28:30Speaker 3: No obstruction officer anytime you are obstructing them from doing
- 28:33Speaker 3: their job, like if you lie to them. But no,
- 28:37Speaker 3: I ran from him. I pulled off, Yeah, because I
- 28:40Speaker 3: had a.
- 28:42Speaker 1: You had a gun on you too, right.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Hell yeah, everybody know cocaine and drugs don't mix. The
- 28:47Speaker 2: cocaine and guns don't mix. You got you can get one,
- 28:50Speaker 2: but you wonn't getting both of them off me. So
- 28:51Speaker 2: he wanted both. So I drove off with his ass
- 28:53Speaker 2: hanging in my window.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And that's how I get that hanging in your window.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Yes, hanging in the window. I will get the damn.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I thought you were going to say you were driving
- 29:03Speaker 1: and try to chuck it.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Out, and then I beat these charges. There's no double jebbidy.
- 29:08Speaker 3: I can tell you the story. He pulled me over,
- 29:12Speaker 3: but he already had some file ship on his mind
- 29:14Speaker 3: because he knew I sold dope. So he just figured, oh,
- 29:17Speaker 3: got your answer to pull you over to day and
- 29:18Speaker 3: see what you got on you. So when he pulled
- 29:21Speaker 3: me over, he kind of like he didn't come all
- 29:25Speaker 3: the way up on my car, and he kind of
- 29:26Speaker 3: turned his car to the right a little bit so
- 29:30Speaker 3: the camera wouldn't get everything. I didn't know that until
- 29:33Speaker 3: I saw the dance camp when my lawyer got to Discovery.
- 29:35Speaker 3: But anyway, he walked up to my car and he
- 29:38Speaker 3: cut his recorder off coming up to my car, so
- 29:40Speaker 3: he came up straight to my car. He's like, what
- 29:42Speaker 3: a gun is with a dope at and I'm like,
- 29:46Speaker 3: I got a gun or two in Hire, but I
- 29:47Speaker 3: don't know about because it was legal. I had a
- 29:51Speaker 3: legal gun, but the cocaine ain't legal, So of course
- 29:54Speaker 3: I admit to the gun. So he was like, he said,
- 29:58Speaker 3: I had one of my guns between my seat and
- 30:01Speaker 3: my emergency break. I used to always keep one right
- 30:04Speaker 3: there in case I can grab right here, and I
- 30:05Speaker 3: had one of my door because I had to grab
- 30:07Speaker 3: over there. So he was like, for my safety, stick
- 30:10Speaker 3: your hands out of the window so I can reach
- 30:12Speaker 3: in and get the gun.
- 30:13Speaker 2: So, Risks, you see how small my shit is.
- 30:16Speaker 3: I stick both my wrists out the window like this
- 30:18Speaker 3: so he can get the gun. No, lie, He put
- 30:21Speaker 3: one hand around both my wrists and he leaned in
- 30:23Speaker 3: and he grabbed my gun from between the seat and
- 30:25Speaker 3: he put it on top of my car.
- 30:27Speaker 2: This point, my sun roof is open because it's a
- 30:30Speaker 2: sunny day. I'm just riding. But all right, go back? No, no, no,
- 30:34Speaker 2: not then, not then.
- 30:35Speaker 3: So so he was like when he looked when he
- 30:38Speaker 3: reached in to get the gun, he had, well, then
- 30:41Speaker 3: you go back a little bit more. When he first
- 30:43Speaker 3: pulled me over, I was so nervous. I took the
- 30:46Speaker 3: dope and put it in my pocket. At this point,
- 30:49Speaker 3: them slim tight ass five O one levives were popular,
- 30:53Speaker 3: and when I pulled my hand out of my pocket
- 30:54Speaker 3: about that much of the plastic came out too. So
- 30:57Speaker 3: when he reached in to get the gun, he saw
- 30:59Speaker 3: the shit because I'm turned like this, So he sees
- 31:02Speaker 3: the plastic hanging out of my pocket, but he don't
- 31:04Speaker 3: see the dope because all of it is in my pocket.
- 31:06Speaker 3: He see the plastic, so he like he come out
- 31:09Speaker 3: sniffing hard as fuck. So he was like, is that
- 31:12Speaker 3: marijuana hanging out of your pocket? Still holding my wrists
- 31:15Speaker 3: start to look.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I be damn, you didn't say that.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Yes I did to myself, yes I did. So he
- 31:25Speaker 3: was like, he says that marijuana hanging out your pocket.
- 31:28Speaker 3: I said, no, it ain't marijuana. He said, what is?
- 31:31Speaker 3: I said, bir and you let me out? I jake
- 31:33Speaker 3: you everything.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Just let me know. I went to run so I
- 31:35Speaker 2: can get rid of it.
- 31:36Speaker 3: But I'm in the middle of no fucking where. I
- 31:38Speaker 3: mean nowhere, cotton feels and everything on the side. If
- 31:41Speaker 3: I run, I ain't going nowhere. I just want to
- 31:43Speaker 3: get this ship off of me. So he was like,
- 31:45Speaker 3: I can't let you do that. So at this moment,
- 31:50Speaker 3: and this is a true store, I don't give a
- 31:52Speaker 3: fuck when nobody say.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Yes.
- 31:55Speaker 1: So you didn't tell him that there was a second gun.
- 31:57Speaker 2: It wasn't his business. He'll find that if he would
- 31:59Speaker 2: have let me get out, But that we have to
- 32:00Speaker 2: get to that.
- 32:01Speaker 3: So I know everybody have seen these movies where God
- 32:05Speaker 3: just come in at the last minute and it's like
- 32:07Speaker 3: he just opened the sky and the sun shine down
- 32:10Speaker 3: on some ship. On my mama, I fucking I promise you,
- 32:13Speaker 3: I swear to God. This is what happened when he
- 32:16Speaker 3: telling me he can't let me out. It's like God
- 32:19Speaker 3: made the sun shine even brighter through my sun and.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Shine on my gear shield.
- 32:25Speaker 3: I was so on my gearshift to get I was
- 32:28Speaker 3: so goddamn nervous when he pulled me over. I never
- 32:30Speaker 3: put my car in part. I'm sitting there with both
- 32:32Speaker 3: feet on the damn break.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Oh no, this real shit.
- 32:36Speaker 3: So he's standing out his hand on my hand telling
- 32:39Speaker 3: me he want this cocaine, and both of my feet
- 32:42Speaker 3: on the break, and it's been still in.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Dry and wait wait, wait, and his head still in
- 32:48Speaker 1: the car.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Right he should have got up. So what happened?
- 32:53Speaker 3: Well, he had a chance to move though, because we
- 32:55Speaker 3: was in the grass and I had an Audi a
- 32:56Speaker 3: four back then the front wheel drive, so it's spinning
- 32:58Speaker 3: in the grass.
- 32:59Speaker 2: He said, what you're doing? Say you better move. He's
- 33:01Speaker 2: still front of Hold my shit.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I took my knee and got the wheel in the
- 33:05Speaker 3: front wheel and on that pavement and slump that motherfucker again.
- 33:08Speaker 2: I see you.
- 33:09Speaker 3: So he jumps back, runs to his car. Mind you,
- 33:12Speaker 3: I told you he parked back a little because he
- 33:13Speaker 3: was on some bullshit, so he had a little bit
- 33:15Speaker 3: to run back.
- 33:16Speaker 2: I'm already around the curve.
- 33:18Speaker 3: I bite the top off the plastic and pour the
- 33:20Speaker 3: dope out, and then I get up the road a
- 33:22Speaker 3: little bit more and drop the bag because you might
- 33:24Speaker 3: a wall.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Just keep the dope if you're gonna throw the dope
- 33:26Speaker 2: out in the goddamn bad.
- 33:28Speaker 3: So, yeah, you're think it's smart, but no, no, no,
- 33:32Speaker 3: that's all gone. I ain't that fucking smart. That's how
- 33:34Speaker 3: I know. I'm telling you.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I would have thought that far, but go ahead, go ahead.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I wasn't thinking that far. My heart beating fast as fuck.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I don't know what's going on.
- 33:42Speaker 3: When I finally get rid of the dope and the
- 33:44Speaker 3: gun rolled down my fucking windshield and off the damn.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Car, I'm like, nigga, you're running from the police.
- 33:54Speaker 3: And at that moment when I said that, I saw
- 33:55Speaker 3: police coming in front of me, his ass was behind
- 33:58Speaker 3: me and his side rode come and the police in
- 34:01Speaker 3: front of me was from a whole another county. So
- 34:03Speaker 3: I know I'm not going to cross this yet, So
- 34:05Speaker 3: I just pull over and get out the car because
- 34:07Speaker 3: I got the dope of me not whatever. We can
- 34:09Speaker 3: take this templally one of them, so I can take
- 34:13Speaker 3: this attempting to you, lou and whatever. Just give me
- 34:17Speaker 3: that shit. That's what I'm thinking. So when I got
- 34:22Speaker 3: out of the car with I do what I see.
- 34:23Speaker 2: People do on TV. I get on my knees and
- 34:25Speaker 2: hold my handle. He said, get on the grind. Said
- 34:26Speaker 2: I'm on the ground. He said, lay on your Stoma said,
- 34:28Speaker 2: all right, don't shoot me. So he came up. He
- 34:31Speaker 2: hopped on my back. He put me a handcus he
- 34:33Speaker 2: just ripped it through my pocket. He said, where is it?
- 34:35Speaker 3: I said, I don't know what you're talking about. He said,
- 34:37Speaker 3: where is that plastic? I said, may have no guydamn plastic.
- 34:39Speaker 3: He said, why did you run? I said, because you
- 34:40Speaker 3: were trying to choke me. So that moment I did
- 34:45Speaker 3: not know. He cut his recorder off and he did
- 34:47Speaker 3: not get it on camera. That's just me saying shit.
- 34:50Speaker 3: So the other cops that's coming behind us, they pick
- 34:54Speaker 3: up my gun that fell out the car.
- 34:56Speaker 2: And the cops that was in front of us, they
- 34:58Speaker 2: pulled up, asked everything all right or whatever because it's
- 35:00Speaker 2: out there jerseydiction anywhere. They were just gonna cut me
- 35:02Speaker 2: off or take over if I crossed over into the count.
- 35:06Speaker 2: So they turned on and went out. They wait went
- 35:08Speaker 2: on about their way or whatever.
- 35:10Speaker 3: The dude who's coming from the side, he went back
- 35:12Speaker 3: to look for the dope. And the guy who bought
- 35:15Speaker 3: my gun. He went back to look for the dope. Now,
- 35:17Speaker 3: mind you, I told you I pulled it out of
- 35:19Speaker 3: the bag.
- 35:19Speaker 2: It was one.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Yeah, that was over it. So what happened was they
- 35:23Speaker 3: went back. They came back and said the only thing
- 35:24Speaker 3: we found was a gun. There's no dope on the road.
- 35:26Speaker 3: No marijuanda, no cocainet.
- 35:28Speaker 2: No nothing. Okay, cool, thinking that's it, buddy, take me
- 35:33Speaker 2: to jail. He charged me with.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Not then no, he charged me at that moment it
- 35:39Speaker 3: was attempting to elude obstructional officer. Aggravator saw on the
- 35:45Speaker 3: officer because he was hanging out of my window when
- 35:47Speaker 3: I drove off.
- 35:49Speaker 2: I did not know that shit.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Anytime you put somebody's life in danger, any of it,
- 35:54Speaker 3: that's aggravator. So they gave me that shit. I think
- 36:00Speaker 3: that was it at that moment. So he booked me.
- 36:04Speaker 3: They booked me at the station. An hour later, while
- 36:06Speaker 3: I'm still in intake, he calls back up to the
- 36:09Speaker 3: jail and say add possession of cocaine. He goes back
- 36:12Speaker 3: to the scene and pick up the bag and it
- 36:14Speaker 3: still had some crumbs in it. But they had to
- 36:19Speaker 3: add the charges because he said it.
- 36:21Speaker 1: But yeah, there's no.
- 36:25Speaker 3: You can't prove that it was lying, you know what
- 36:27Speaker 3: I'm saying. So they added the charges. So when they
- 36:31Speaker 3: added the cocaine charges, I bunned out from just possession
- 36:36Speaker 3: of cocaine or whatever. He gets back to the jail
- 36:38Speaker 3: with the chief of police and decides, oh, we can
- 36:41Speaker 3: charge him with a lot more. So that's when they
- 36:43Speaker 3: add the abandonment of the dangerous drug.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Tamping.
- 36:48Speaker 1: That when you start doing your deals with Jesus.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Sort of kind of.
- 36:53Speaker 3: Because I had to go back to jail, I had
- 36:54Speaker 3: to turn myself in the bun out on the new charges.
- 36:56Speaker 3: So I'm like, y'all fucking with me. They took my car,
- 36:59Speaker 3: I had an all. They took that. They took my cash,
- 37:02Speaker 3: They took both of the guns I had. They took
- 37:06Speaker 3: my pepper spray, they took my baton, they took my knife.
- 37:10Speaker 1: A lot of weapons.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you come between me and my EVA. You're
- 37:14Speaker 2: gonna see what but nah? Yeah, but no. So when
- 37:23Speaker 2: it was time to go to well, of course it
- 37:25Speaker 2: used to bother me a little bit, but I didn't
- 37:28Speaker 2: really for some reason. I don't know why, because I
- 37:30Speaker 2: worry about everything.
- 37:32Speaker 3: I'm always worrying about something, but that didn't really bother me.
- 37:37Speaker 2: I don't know why it did not bother me up
- 37:40Speaker 2: until I went to court.
- 37:43Speaker 3: I used to say all the time people used to
- 37:44Speaker 3: ask me about I don't care about that ship, and
- 37:45Speaker 3: they used to get mad.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Like, nigga, you can go to jail for a long
- 37:48Speaker 2: time about this ship. And I was like, I'm.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Not tripping because I didn't really I wasn't really focusing
- 37:53Speaker 3: on it. So when I hire up my attorney, he
- 37:57Speaker 3: was like, we're gonna ask for a speedy trial. I said,
- 38:00Speaker 3: for what he was like, because we're not gonna get
- 38:02Speaker 3: him trying to build a case. It was like, this
- 38:04Speaker 3: is bullshit. So he said, let's just go ahead and
- 38:06Speaker 3: do it. So I ended up going. I got arrested
- 38:10Speaker 3: December eighteen, twenty eleven. I went to court July six
- 38:18Speaker 3: no July sixteenth, twenty twelve, so it was like with
- 38:22Speaker 3: six seven months or some shit like that. So the
- 38:26Speaker 3: first day I went to court, it was supposed to
- 38:27Speaker 3: be like one day, but.
- 38:31Speaker 2: They was on some bullshit. Now, mind you, I told
- 38:33Speaker 2: you I threw the dope out the window.
- 38:36Speaker 3: So the judge was like, after the first recess for
- 38:40Speaker 3: the first day, he was like, I, before we bring
- 38:42Speaker 3: the jury in, I've heard y'all mentioned cocaine, cocaine, cocaine,
- 38:46Speaker 3: but I don't see any on the table.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Where is it.
- 38:49Speaker 3: So the DA was like, y'all or it's at the
- 38:51Speaker 3: crime lab or something like that. So he was like,
- 38:53Speaker 3: I'll tell you what, if y'all don't have it in
- 38:55Speaker 3: here tomorrow, I'm gonna throw the cocaine out.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I'm nice.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Bullshit. They come in there the next day with a
- 39:01Speaker 2: half a ball half eight ball cocaine.
- 39:05Speaker 1: So that's temper. That's tampering on their side, right, it's.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Doing whatever the fuck they want to do. They tried. Now,
- 39:10Speaker 3: mind you, I had cracked. I had cracked cocaine. They
- 39:13Speaker 3: come in with powder cocaine. My stupid ass. When I
- 39:17Speaker 3: see them coming out of that ship.
- 39:18Speaker 2: I look at my something.
- 39:19Speaker 1: You said I had cracked, not coke.
- 39:21Speaker 2: You better damn no, I did. I told him, I said,
- 39:23Speaker 2: look at I had crack. I don't know what the
- 39:24Speaker 2: fuck that is. He said, you didn't have nothing, because
- 39:28Speaker 2: I said, I'm just letting you know what to damn
- 39:30Speaker 2: tell them.
- 39:31Speaker 1: So you said you don't let him know what to
- 39:36Speaker 1: tell them.
- 39:36Speaker 2: That how to fight. Let them. I told you what happened.
- 39:40Speaker 3: So what fucked them up was they had that little
- 39:43Speaker 3: amount and they tried to point on the dash cam
- 39:47Speaker 3: where they thought the cocaine was when they was pursuing me,
- 39:50Speaker 3: and the judge was like, that's not the same.
- 39:52Speaker 2: So then they wanted to offer me a plea.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Bark and I knew then, like, okay, I got you, motherfuckers.
- 39:59Speaker 2: They offered me I think it was five serve two.
- 40:04Speaker 1: What does that mean? They offered me two years in jail.
- 40:07Speaker 3: Yeah, they give me five years and I served two
- 40:09Speaker 3: and then like three on parole, a probation or some
- 40:11Speaker 3: ship like that. I'm like, fuck, no, I'm not doing it.
- 40:14Speaker 3: I told my lawyer that because he came to me
- 40:15Speaker 3: and told me to jail. So when he went and
- 40:18Speaker 3: told him, I turned it down.
- 40:20Speaker 2: He can't. They offered him another one. I even heard
- 40:23Speaker 2: the DA say, well, he's gonna.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Be an old man when you get out, and I'm like, well, bitch,
- 40:27Speaker 3: you'll be dead. Well, so he said all right, we'll
- 40:33Speaker 3: drop the cocaine and still giving five serve two.
- 40:36Speaker 2: So I'm like, well, what the fuck is the difference? Then?
- 40:38Speaker 3: Okay, y'all gotta work. We're gonna go for so my brother,
- 40:41Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, you might want to take it. I'm like,
- 40:43Speaker 3: I'm not sending myself to jail. If I go to jail,
- 40:45Speaker 3: it's gonna be all and nothing, and the judge is
- 40:47Speaker 3: gonna send me. I'm not gonna sign up to send
- 40:49Speaker 3: myself to jail because I really did not see myself
- 40:51Speaker 3: going to jail.
- 40:51Speaker 2: I didn't believe that shit.
- 40:52Speaker 1: It was everything that you had done, you didn't see
- 40:55Speaker 1: it's gonna I'm just.
- 40:57Speaker 3: I didn't everything that I did. I didn't not see
- 41:00Speaker 3: myself going to jail. And I was guilty of all
- 41:02Speaker 3: that shit, but I just didn't see myself going to jail.
- 41:16Speaker 3: What really really helped me out is him doing the
- 41:20Speaker 3: stupid shit that he did. I had never been arrested
- 41:23Speaker 3: for any of that ship before, and he had just
- 41:27Speaker 3: gotten fired from the County sheriff Department for doing some
- 41:29Speaker 3: racist shit. Oh yeah, he shot off his own police
- 41:33Speaker 3: card and said a black dude did it, and then
- 41:34Speaker 3: he shot at the black dude, so they fired.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Also, looks like he tampers with evidence a lot.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Ye, well nod.
- 41:40Speaker 3: He didn't bring the cocaine in the courthouse, the district attorney,
- 41:43Speaker 3: and the whole prosecution.
- 41:45Speaker 2: They did that shit. Yeah, because it was no way.
- 41:50Speaker 3: We left court at like four or five that evening,
- 41:54Speaker 3: and we lived two and a half three hours south
- 41:56Speaker 3: of Atlanta at that time, the crime laud was closed.
- 41:59Speaker 3: The way you went there that evening or that morning
- 42:03Speaker 3: the next morning and got back with the cocaine in order,
- 42:07Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, to present it to the
- 42:09Speaker 3: jury or whatever. So you know, when I was telling
- 42:11Speaker 3: him that, he was like, I got it, you know,
- 42:12Speaker 3: like I got I got it.
- 42:13Speaker 2: So he got up and said the ship. But you
- 42:14Speaker 2: know I was.
- 42:15Speaker 3: That's when I got scared, Like, okay, now y'all playing
- 42:18Speaker 3: because it was no cocaine in the courtroom.
- 42:20Speaker 2: They ran over that shit.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Come behind me, silly, Okay, So you're gonna feed me
- 42:26Speaker 1: today in this lifetime before.
- 42:28Speaker 2: The interviews, if you let me get to that you
- 42:30Speaker 2: are are.
- 42:30Speaker 1: You and the butter knife?
- 42:31Speaker 2: Huh? Yeah?
- 42:32Speaker 3: Because you asked me about to struggle right there where.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Oh.
- 42:39Speaker 1: I don't know if Jesus needed to sign a light
- 42:41Speaker 1: on them or something.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Nah, but I'm gonna tell you this. We let chicken
- 42:45Speaker 3: cook for a long time. You're fucking around and get
- 42:47Speaker 3: that that. What is it, Simonia?
- 42:49Speaker 1: If you cook it too long?
- 42:51Speaker 2: No, if you don't cook it long enough. That's why
- 42:52Speaker 2: I said, we let it cook a long time.
- 42:54Speaker 1: First of all, it was pre cooked. All you had
- 42:56Speaker 1: to do was heat it.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Oh, we don't fuck this up.
- 42:58Speaker 1: You you, he said, don't he said, don't tell me
- 43:02Speaker 1: how to cook the chicken. I could cook the chicken.
- 43:05Speaker 1: What do you say about the cat? What did you
- 43:06Speaker 1: say about the cat? You said the cat to tell
- 43:08Speaker 1: the what?
- 43:09Speaker 3: Well, that's when I was a chelf, but you turned
- 43:11Speaker 3: me into a guest on your show, Oprah.
- 43:13Speaker 2: And that's when I said, I said, bok the chicken.
- 43:18Speaker 2: So I don't even know that this is gonna be good.
- 43:21Speaker 1: No, it's not. You don't add seasoning to your chicken
- 43:24Speaker 1: for what.
- 43:24Speaker 2: That's tyson, jab you see it already. Then you said,
- 43:27Speaker 2: we're pretty cooked.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I just want to eat. I want to eat before
- 43:33Speaker 1: the episode's over. I want to discriminate hardly on your dish.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Oh, well you're gonna do that.
- 43:36Speaker 1: And I want to be you how you are with
- 43:39Speaker 1: the six hundred pound life.
- 43:40Speaker 2: First, because I'm not eating this. I want you to
- 43:42Speaker 2: know that. Now.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Why Because you're gonna You're gonna eat this because this
- 43:47Speaker 1: is what you ate when you was.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Broke, and I'm not broken the more so now it's
- 43:50Speaker 2: your turn.
- 43:50Speaker 1: No last when was the last time you ate a
- 43:53Speaker 1: dish like this?
- 43:54Speaker 2: Twenty sixteen?
- 43:55Speaker 1: Okay, well, welcome back to the broke club.
- 44:00Speaker 3: Uh, it's my phone right, No, I'm not eating this,
- 44:05Speaker 3: gonna give it to you.
- 44:06Speaker 1: No, you gotta take one bite justin why you look?
- 44:11Speaker 2: I don't want this.
- 44:12Speaker 3: I don't want this broke ship to rub off on
- 44:14Speaker 3: me anymore, and I might not make no more money
- 44:17Speaker 3: and I might have to start eating this again.
- 44:19Speaker 1: No, man, everyone has had to take a bite of
- 44:21Speaker 1: their own. May it may jock your memory. You may
- 44:24Speaker 1: get a cool classic memory of flashback.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't want those. That was a lot of sleep.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Where are you vegan?
- 44:31Speaker 4: Now?
- 44:32Speaker 2: Hell?
- 44:32Speaker 1: No, I eat everything, but you're broke dish?
- 44:38Speaker 2: Huh yeah, No, I'm I'm lying.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Okay, good because I was starting to feel like I
- 44:44Speaker 1: couldn't trust the meal for a second. You know, when
- 44:46Speaker 1: someone else don't eat it, you'd be like, I can't
- 44:49Speaker 1: trust it.
- 44:52Speaker 2: I gotta I gotta get me one of those. I
- 44:54Speaker 2: like that for real. I cook for rea. Now, oh ship,
- 44:57Speaker 2: I cook for real.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Now, I don't cook this ship here, I cook for free, okay.
- 45:01Speaker 1: Because you looked at the season is like they were.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Yep, for that. I'm not seasoning up no ship that that.
- 45:08Speaker 3: I got a thought or whatever I mean like that.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Now regular chicken, like a whole chicken, what its like
- 45:14Speaker 1: without seasoning?
- 45:15Speaker 2: So you put season it on your ship like that
- 45:18Speaker 2: for you.
- 45:18Speaker 1: First of all, I always buy my chicken raw, okay,
- 45:23Speaker 1: but for the sake of helping you out.
- 45:25Speaker 2: No, like this, I'm not seasoning this.
- 45:28Speaker 3: But if I go and buy me like chicken breasts
- 45:31Speaker 3: or chicken wings or something like that, yes, almost season that.
- 45:33Speaker 2: And I got a lot of seasoning for that.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Okay, let's let's see.
- 45:38Speaker 3: But this he ain't shit. I'm gonna tell you that
- 45:39Speaker 3: right now. You didn't even bring me nothing to put
- 45:42Speaker 3: some gravy with.
- 45:43Speaker 1: First of all, you said you don't let your meal
- 45:45Speaker 1: ingredients touch you put I'm scared to.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Go to your house you put gravy on rice. You're
- 45:51Speaker 2: scared to go to my house for what dinner?
- 45:53Speaker 1: You're gonna serve yourself plates? Sir? Oh my god, geez,
- 45:57Speaker 1: don't be boogie.
- 45:59Speaker 2: You asked for ate when I was broke.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Yeah, well you ain't broke, that's why you on this show.
- 46:03Speaker 2: No, I was, well, okay.
- 46:06Speaker 1: What say it? Don't hold back.
- 46:08Speaker 3: No, I don't want the wrong people to see this
- 46:10Speaker 3: and start asking for ship, because you know that's that's
- 46:14Speaker 3: when people need favors and ship.
- 46:16Speaker 2: I don't you know. Sometimes I like to steal car
- 46:19Speaker 2: people and ask for ship just and I don't even need.
- 46:21Speaker 1: It, Like what money. You'll call someone and be like,
- 46:24Speaker 1: let me hold.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Just to keep it out there so they won't ask me.
- 46:27Speaker 2: I beat them to it.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and David, what happens if they give it to
- 46:31Speaker 1: you appreciate it? Is that how you judge, like your lawyer.
- 46:36Speaker 3: But I have to deal with a lot of bullshit
- 46:38Speaker 3: behind it because they know I like expensive ship, so.
- 46:40Speaker 2: You stopped behind this and I'd be like, bitch, I
- 46:43Speaker 2: don't even need it. I just don't want you to
- 46:44Speaker 2: ever ask me because they see me living nice, like
- 46:48Speaker 2: I buy something and they figure, oh, well he has
- 46:51Speaker 2: money to bouy it, so maybe he has something loan
- 46:54Speaker 2: on me.
- 46:55Speaker 1: So you beat him to it before you'd be like, oh,
- 46:58Speaker 1: by the way, let me fight out.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Yeah, just act broke.
- 47:01Speaker 3: I tell them all my clothes come from the flea
- 47:03Speaker 3: market because they pay attention to my brands and stuff.
- 47:07Speaker 3: I'm like, this fake shit? Why would I pay that
- 47:09Speaker 3: much for that? Now my moment them no better because
- 47:11Speaker 3: they know I'm not Finna war nothing fake. But other people, and.
- 47:15Speaker 2: I don't know if they know it better too, they
- 47:16Speaker 2: just be.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Like, Okay, so your family now are they proud of you?
- 47:21Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 47:21Speaker 3: Now everybody my daddy? Oh my goodness, you ought to
- 47:28Speaker 3: see him. He loved for people to ask am I
- 47:31Speaker 3: his son? Because of the videos and stuff. When he
- 47:34Speaker 3: go anywhere, like the doctor's office.
- 47:35Speaker 2: One day, he.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Tell the story.
- 47:38Speaker 2: He calls me.
- 47:39Speaker 3: He was at the doctor's office and they called him
- 47:41Speaker 3: to come in the back and they heard his last name.
- 47:44Speaker 3: So all the nurses and the people in the back
- 47:47Speaker 3: asked him when he was on his way out.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Is that your son? Are you related to him? Or
- 47:51Speaker 2: something like?
- 47:51Speaker 3: That made his fucking day. So anywhere he goes and
- 47:55Speaker 3: they have to ask him his last name. Oh, he
- 47:57Speaker 3: hasn't mentioned his last name and they asked him or
- 47:59Speaker 3: is it in relation to it?
- 48:01Speaker 2: He calls me, he sent me a text. He fucking
- 48:03Speaker 2: loves that.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Do you love that he loves it.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Yeah, because I never thought I was gonna make him
- 48:09Speaker 3: proud of anything because of how hard he was on
- 48:11Speaker 3: me growing up. And now I know why, but you
- 48:15Speaker 3: know I didn't. I just didn't never think I was
- 48:18Speaker 3: gonna be good enough or do anything good enough for him.
- 48:20Speaker 3: My mama didn't give a fuck, Like I'm Mama's boy.
- 48:22Speaker 2: She loved me.
- 48:23Speaker 3: If I don't, yeah, because yeah, anyway, she don't condone it,
- 48:31Speaker 3: but she loved me anyway.
- 48:34Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 48:37Speaker 1: You and him, like, do you share all your accomplishments
- 48:39Speaker 1: with him?
- 48:40Speaker 2: Oh?
- 48:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yea yeah, we have a great relationship. Now I'm
- 48:43Speaker 3: actually about to buy him his first roles. Now, I'm
- 48:47Speaker 3: gonna buy him his before I buy my own.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:51Speaker 3: He all I ever heard him say he wanted when
- 48:54Speaker 3: I was growing up was a Range Drove and a Rolex.
- 48:57Speaker 3: So I in my prayers every night, I pray to
- 48:59Speaker 3: Go that you allow me to buy him both of
- 49:01Speaker 3: those while he still can enjoy it.
- 49:04Speaker 2: So if I don't you know what I'm saying, If I.
- 49:05Speaker 3: Don't get to buy it for myself right now, I'm
- 49:09Speaker 3: cool with it.
- 49:09Speaker 2: I just want to buy it for him all that.
- 49:12Speaker 1: So does he know what's coming?
- 49:14Speaker 2: No, so he ain't gonna see this shit nowhere, he
- 49:17Speaker 2: don't because he don't watch that. But and the grip
- 49:19Speaker 2: the news and that's it.
- 49:21Speaker 1: Oh okay, so he don't watch your stuff. No, well,
- 49:25Speaker 1: we're gonna turn this into a little clue.
- 49:26Speaker 2: No he he if no, he don't watch x uh.
- 49:32Speaker 3: Well, I'm trying to see. My parents' anniversary is March
- 49:35Speaker 3: to twentieth. But I don't want to give it to
- 49:38Speaker 3: him then because I can't afford to give him and
- 49:40Speaker 3: my mama one, even though she don't really.
- 49:42Speaker 2: Give a fuck about one. But wait till after maybe

- 51:06Speaker 2: that was gonna brown and dry up.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Let me tell you this is like chicken jerky.
- 51:14Speaker 3: It's the last time I ever do something nice for

- 52:12Speaker 3: shit like, no matter what, somebody's doing better, somebody has more,
- 52:19Speaker 3: so why brag about what you got?
- 52:21Speaker 2: Just enjoyed and keep on. I like that, so I

- 52:39Speaker 2: just you know.
- 52:40Speaker 3: I say thank you because that's the polite thing to do,
- 52:43Speaker 3: but as far as it's letting it download into my brain, like, nah,
- 52:48Speaker 3: I don't have a bunch of compliments, and better than
- 52:50Speaker 3: my head, I'm not full of myself at all.

- 53:47Speaker 2: Gonna go and get me one one for real. Yeah,
- 53:50Speaker 2: because it's enough rice to feed two people.

- 53:55Speaker 1: discovered it like a month ago.
- 53:57Speaker 2: So I don't do jazz my rice. Is it gonna
