Meet Edward Kelley and Emily Newman, artists at Drake University, who’ve created an eye-popping, eco-heroic quilt called “It’s in the Water” — made from recycled plastic and packed with algae that actively filters nitrates and carbon from water. It’s art with a mission: to spotlight Iowa’s water quality crisis while turning pollution into purpose. Funded by the Hubbells and built with community help, this living sculpture is on display at Wilson’s Orchard until mid-September — and they’re just getting started, with their next project, Climate Beacon, launching at Drake University soon.
