The Ten Commandments · Exodus 20
The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20) read aloud, in a fresh direct translation from the Hebrew - plain modern English, nothing added.
Translator's notes:
• Exodus 20:3 — על־פני (al-panai): chose “before me”. Alternatives: “besides me”, “in my presence”. Why: the phrase is literally “upon my face” and the sense is debated.
• Exodus 20:6 — חסד (chesed): chose “loyal love”. Alternatives: “kindness”, “steadfast love”, “mercy”. Why: chesed is covenant loyalty joined with love, and no single English word covers it.
