- 1:00- This is Scott Becker with the Beckers Healthcare
- 1:03- Podcast.
- 1:05- These are five of the stories that we're
- 1:06- following today.
- 1:07- We're coming to 07/14/2026.
- 1:11- So so first,
- 1:13- a reemergence
- 1:14- of hospital m and a. A story today
- 1:16- about 18 hospital deals, 7,700,000,000
- 1:20- in revenues,
- 1:22- m and a rebound continues, and and fasting
- 1:24- to see that after at some point there
- 1:26- wasn't that much of that.
- 1:28- Second,
- 1:30- article,
- 1:31- 46 of the highest paid health care CEOs.
- 1:34- This comes from the Wall Street Journal.
- 1:36- It's article about all CEOs, and our team
- 1:39- picked out the ones that are health care
- 1:40- CEOs.
- 1:41- And these are almost all CEOs from pharma,
- 1:44- device, and payers.
- 1:46- None of the top 46 in their list
- 1:49- of whatever number it was
- 1:51- were, in fact,
- 1:52- health system CEOs and leaders,
- 1:55- more CEOs from pharma device payers.
- 1:58- So as people take shots at hospital CEO
- 2:00- pay, they're really looking at the wrong place.
- 2:03- Hospital CEOs have a very, very challenging job,
- 2:06- lots of issues, lots of challenges. It is
- 2:08- what it is. The third,
- 2:10- Georgia CEO hospital
- 2:12- hospital CEO
- 2:14- details financial
- 2:15- recovery amid an investigation
- 2:17- into an employee complaint.
- 2:20- Apparently, the CEO of the system
- 2:22- wrote a complaint about the AR, HR,
- 2:25- and behaviors of the CEO. As far as
- 2:28- I could tell, the CEO
- 2:30- herself is working really hard to navigate a
- 2:32- challenging situation in a in a system where
- 2:34- they've got financial challenges. So,
- 2:37- you know, at least from what I can
- 2:38- read so far, I I think the CEO
- 2:40- is probably in the right spot, but I
- 2:42- could be proven wrong over time. That's for
- 2:43- sure.
- 2:44- Fourth article we're following is a labor issue.
- 2:47- It it well,
- 2:49- like, labor turnover retention issue. A great article
- 2:52- on what health system leaders can learn from
- 2:54- Costco's 7% turnover rate.
- 2:57- Costco has this incredibly low turnover rate. Just
- 3:00- fantastic.
- 3:01- And there's a story about
- 3:02- what of those things could be applied to
- 3:04- health care and could be used for for
- 3:06- hospitals and health systems.
- 3:08- Finally, fifth,
- 3:09- the CEO of CVS says something we all
- 3:12- sort of know.
- 3:14- GLP one economics simply aren't there yet for
- 3:17- employers. This is in terms of GLP ones
- 3:19- in obesity.
- 3:21- And and I think what's really happened is
- 3:22- the more we get this out of the
- 3:24- employer pay, the insurance pay situation,
- 3:27- the more that price competition actually happens and
- 3:29- the better that prices go down. This whole
- 3:32- concept of paying for GLP ones, obviously, for
- 3:34- diabetes needed, I'd like it for obesity, but
- 3:37- the numbers don't work because the pharma companies
- 3:39- charge and the insurance companies too much.
- 3:42- ES semiglutides,
- 3:44- ES compounders
- 3:45- attack the private market.
- 3:47- You get these things down to 100 to
- 3:49- $200 a month versus the 800 to $1,000
- 3:52- a month that they were at. And and
- 3:54- I think the c v s c o
- 3:55- eight says it correctly.
- 3:57- The economics aren't quite really there, but he
- 4:00- dodges the bigger question. He probably has to
- 4:02- because CVS is Aetna. It's a huge insurer.
- 4:05- The reality is for so many of these
- 4:07- health care services today,
- 4:09- inflation goes down the more we can get
- 4:12- these things out of essentially the insurance and
- 4:14- health system system. In any event, thank you
- 4:17- for listening to the Becker's Healthcare podcast. We
