- 0:01Oh, what a goal by Peter Taylor.
- 0:21Welcome to team of the 80s.
- 0:22My name's Gary Spencer.
- 0:26Yeah, so now I've had time to calm down, take the emotion out of it and have a look back at that Everton game.
- 0:34I really feel that first of all we can't have another season like last year with the finishing.
- 0:42We just can't.
- 0:43But it looks like that we're gonna.
- 0:45And one of the things which upset me about the lineup yesterday was you're not telling me that Mateta and Eddie are only bad on a Saturday.
- 0:57I mean they're finishing in training.
- 0:59Can't be that great.
- 1:00It can't be Eddie a little bit unlucky with the Pickford save because it was a, it was a world class save.
- 1:09Mateta's tapping at the near post where he side footed it just widen.
- 1:14I don't know, I don't know how he missed that.
- 1:16But then he side foot where he puts it against the post.
- 1:21I mean come on like we away from home, we cannot afford to give up these chances.
- 1:28You know we could have been 2, 3, 0 up and it's a completely different game but we lose our confidence.
- 1:35Everton get back into it and then in the second half we listen in the second half we were dreadful.
- 1:42And if you look at the second goal that Everton scored, our defending their attacker gets between Richard's ear.
- 1:54I think Cambo's here, he gets in between them.
- 1:57Richards doesn't get a jump.
- 1:58Cambo doesn't get in front of the attacker and he scores.
- 2:03And it's just really bad.
- 2:05I, I actually feel that for that second goal Richards is at full, Cambo's at full.
- 2:11And I don't know what Anderson was doing because Anderson didn't come out and grab it either.
- 2:15And he's like what, three or four yards out?
- 2:18Just very, very bad.
- 2:20Our whole performance in the second half was rough.
- 2:25Was rough.
- 2:28I would have liked to have seen Gozo involved at least in the squad, at least on the bench.
- 2:35He probably needs a few minutes.
- 2:36He's, you know, he hasn't really played this season because for three or four weeks his future was getting sorted out.
- 2:44And so I get it, I get why he was in the under 21s but he's a player and he's going to give us a different option.
- 2:50And I think he's certainly a better finisher than Eddie or Mateta, Australian Larson for that matter.
- 2:59I like Eddie because I think technically Eddie in catches a good footballer.
- 3:05If Mateta's not scoring goals for us, he's He's a waste of time for me because he hasn't been the same player since the head injury against Millwall.
- 3:16Before then, he used to put himself about a lot more.
- 3:19Doesn't put himself about as much anymore.
- 3:22So therefore, if he's not finishing, he's not really doing much for us up there.
- 3:27And if you think about it, he scored that very lucky goal against Brighton, which bought him a lot of time where it went between two Brighton players.
- 3:36Legs.
- 3:36He didn't know where the ball was.
- 3:39And then he went, what, 18 months.
- 3:42Two.
- 3:42Two years.
- 3:43Terrible.
- 3:44Then he had that very good.
- 3:47And it was a very good 18 months.
- 3:4912 months.
- 3:4918 months period where he couldn't stop scoring.
- 3:52But since then, he's been very, very poor, and his finishing's been poor.
- 3:58He doesn't seem to want to play for us, and if we can get some dough for him, then let's get some dough for him, because for me, he's not.
- 4:05He's not doing it.
- 4:06I'm excited to see Gozo.
- 4:08I think Gozo will give the team a lift.
- 4:11I think he'll give our forward line a lift, and let's get him involved as soon as possible.
- 4:17What else?
- 4:18Wharton, A lot of people.
- 4:21You know, listen, I said this yesterday.
- 4:24I can understand why Wharton didn't go to the World Cup.
- 4:28He's.
- 4:29He's good when he's good, and he's good when he's got time.
- 4:31And he can, like, dink it in there, and he can dink it in there and, yeah, he puts a nice.
- 4:37All that stuff great when he's closed down, when he doesn't have that time.
- 4:45He's very ordinary.
- 4:47Very ordinary.
- 4:47And he gives the ball away a lot.
- 4:50And we never see those clips, even the club.
- 4:52Yesterday he said, oh, Walton, like, yeah, great.
- 4:56Well, we can all do that when we've got 10 yards, but it's not about that when you're in midfield.
- 5:00It's about making those things happen when you don't have the time and space and.
- 5:04And he needs to be better at that.
- 5:07I always like using midfield for us.
- 5:09I always do.
- 5:10You know, he's no frills, but he wins the ball and he gives it to somebody that can play.
- 5:17So, yeah, I.
- 5:17I just didn't get our lineup yesterday against Devon.
- 5:21I really didn't.
- 5:22But hopefully this is a big.
- 5:26Hope we get a little bit better against Man City.
- 5:31Disappointed to hear the conflicting views about sa.
- 5:38It looks too much of a coincidence to me that he suddenly got an injury and the rumors are Spreading that he wants to leave.
- 5:46I can see why he wants to leave.
- 5:49Going to Galatasaray.
- 5:52He's going to be on Mordo.
- 5:54He's going to be playing Champions League football in front of a very passionate crowd.
- 5:59So I can understand why he wants to leave.
- 6:03Maybe Zaha got in his ear when he trained with us and said, you know what, that's a big club.
- 6:08You should go there.
- 6:09Galatasaray is a big club.
- 6:11You know, we forget.
- 6:14Although it's out in there in Turkey, the players and managers have been through Galatasaray.
- 6:21Big club, big club.
- 6:23So, you know, and football's changed.
- 6:26It's not like it was in the 70s and 80s.
- 6:29Players have no loyalty anymore to a club back in the 70s and 80s.
- 6:33And I spoke about this in the Steve Lovell podcast.
- 6:35Fans had a lot more of an affiliation with the players and vice versa.
- 6:40You know, players didn't want to leave London.
- 6:41Players didn't want to play for anybody else than Crystal Palace.
- 6:44Those days are gone, particularly with the European and the foreign players.
- 6:48They couldn't care less where they play.
- 6:50They want to play where they get more dough than anywhere else and the chance of a bit more success.
- 6:56And I think realistically, and I'm always saying this on Twitter, palace fans have to be more realistic all the time.
- 7:07Like, I think the worst thing that could have happened to us is that we won three trophies.
- 7:11Really?
- 7:12Because now the.
- 7:13The fans expect us to be in the top six.
- 7:15Top four, Europe.
- 7:17Oh, man.
- 7:17How many times in on Twitter is somebody going to tell me we've won a European trophy?
- 7:23Okay, yeah.
- 7:25Europa Conference League is a trophy you win in Europe, but that's where it ends.
- 7:30You want to start talking about European trophies.
- 7:32This season is going to be a good, good start.
- 7:35The Europa League, it's going to be light years away from what we just played in.
- 7:39And the way we're playing, we're going to last two minutes.
- 7:44We have to, like, really liven up.
- 7:46If.
- 7:47Well, I've said all along, forget playing in Europe and forget playing in the Premier League for Crystal Palace.
- 7:52It's nigh impossible without depth to play in both.
- 7:58Both competitions.
- 7:59Nine.
- 7:59Impossible.
- 8:01So you're dreaming.
- 8:02You're dreaming.
- 8:03Yet we could do well in one of them.
- 8:06And by.
- 8:07Well, if, if, if Crystal palace finish in the top half of the Premier League, that's good for them.
- 8:14That's a good season for them in the top half.
- 8:17But I finish, I feel we'll finish a lot closer to the bottom than we will the top and in the Europa League we're not going to do very well at all.
- 8:26There's some good teams in that, in that cup and we're going to suffer in that cup for sure.
- 8:31Not only in squad depth but just in games, you know, we're not going to do well.
- 8:37So don't be too expectant as far as the manager's concerned.
- 8:43It's going to take me a long time to, to think that he's the right man for the job.
- 8:51Glasner, when he left, would probably have fancied Newcastle over Forest, but he jumped, he saw the opportunity, went to Forest and I'm pretty certain Steve Parrish would have preferred Eddie Howe over Sage or Sarge, whichever, how you ever
- 9:09you say it.
- 9:10I get 0 of Assad and I always feel that Parish has always made the right choices for Crystal Palace.
- 9:17He had a bit of a blip when he appointed Frank Debur, but he got, he, he stopped it very quickly, he stopped the bleeding quickly and he changed within four games.
- 9:27Sarge, Sage, zero.
- 9:31Charisma zero.
- 9:32I see no presence.
- 9:34I, I, I can't imagine going in at half time and getting anything from him which is going to inspire me to go out and do better.
- 9:42It's just flat bland.
- 9:44I, I just don't see it.
- 9:46And yeah, I'm sure if Parish had waited, I mean, hindsight's a wonderful thing, but I'm sure if it'll wait, he would have preferred Eddie Howe.
- 9:57And for me, if we're not doing it in four, five, six games and we haven't got a victory and we haven't got any points, which is, you know, that's highly likely, I would make a change, I would make
- 10:09a change.
- 10:10If Eddie I was still available, I'd go and get him because this team needs some inspiration, it needs an arm around them, it needs some guidance.
- 10:21It needs leadership badly needs leadership.
- 10:25That's why I like using the team.
- 10:28Yeah, it needs a spine and we don't have that at the moment, so yet I need to see more from size.
- 10:36I, it's going to take me a long time to warm to him.
- 10:39Took me a long time to warm to Glasner.
- 10:42Most of that from me was because of the way the fans treated Hodgson, because I felt Roy Hudson did a great job for us.
- 10:50He didn't have much money spent in, in the squad, in the team.
- 10:54He always kept us in the division.
- 10:56Nobody wasn't pretty.
- 10:57But I don't care if we're pretty or not.
- 10:59I just want us to stay in The Premier League.
- 11:01And every time it looks like we're going to fall out of it, I start to get a little bit concerned because I'm a realistic person in support Palace.
- 11:10I don't romanticize about what we're going to do and what we're not going to do.
- 11:13I look at it and I think, you know what, we're not very good and we have to liven up.
- 11:19And a lot of critics said that we'd go down this year.
- 11:23I didn't think that that was possible for us to go down.
- 11:27But when I see the way we performed in the second half against Everton and I can see the problems we're going to have of scoring goals, yeah, it is a possibility.
- 11:36We're going to go down.
- 11:38So, yeah, hopefully sir doesn't go.
- 11:43Hopefully he stays.
- 11:46I'm recording this on Sunday, so who knows what the news on Monday is going to bring.
- 11:51Mateta, I don't really care if he goes.
- 11:53I mean, for me I'd get the money for Mateta, I don't think he.
- 11:56Well, first of all, he doesn't want to play for us, so that's not a good, good, good start, is it?
- 12:01And second of all, when he does play for us, he misses golden chances.
- 12:05Chances that a club like Crystal palace, especially away from home, cannot miss.
- 12:10We have to take our chances away from home at least one in three and yesterday we missed four.
- 12:17And that happened so many times last season.
- 12:19It cannot keep happening.
- 12:21It cannot keep happening.
- 12:23So let's get Gozo in the squad.
- 12:27Let's not romanticize about Franca as well because Franca, he's never going to be strong enough for the Premier League.
- 12:33So forget about him.
- 12:34He's not going to be good enough.
- 12:36And let's see what happens against Man City on Friday.
- 12:39Hopefully it'll be a better performance.
- 12:41It's going to have to be a better performance because they'll turn us over heavily, heavily if we do not liven ourselves up.
- 12:49So onwards and upwards.
- 12:51Let's hope Sar stays.
- 12:53Let's hope Gozo getting involved.
- 12:55And Sage Sarge, whatever your name is, let's find a bit of fire in your belly somewhere.
- 13:00A little bit of charisma, a little bit of inspiration where you can give people something to hold on to.
- 13:06All right, all right, I'll speak to you soon.
- 13:08And come on, you Palace.
- 13:18Sa.
