- 0:00Speaker 1: It's more Mark Mark Simone on seven ten.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Well, ladies and gentlemen, the man who should be the
- 0:09Speaker 2: mayor of New York right now. Curtis Lee Well, of course,
- 0:11Speaker 2: also one of the great radio hosts of the last
- 0:14Speaker 2: few decades, had the number one morning show for many, many, many,
- 0:17Speaker 2: many many years. And he'll be filling in for me.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I'll be off the last two weeks of the year.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Next week and the week after, Curtis will be filling
- 0:24Speaker 2: in ten to noon every weekday. And he's with us. Now,
- 0:27Speaker 2: Curtis sliwa, how you doing?
- 0:30Speaker 1: Oh great now that you've given me an opportunity to
- 0:33Speaker 1: let my voice be heard on my favorite radio station,
- 0:38Speaker 1: w R. Nope, he doesn't get any better than this, Mark,
- 0:42Speaker 1: because obviously you lead and everybody else follow So I
- 0:47Speaker 1: know you've got a huge following because all during the campaign,
- 0:50Speaker 1: people would stop me wherever I was going and says, well,
- 0:53Speaker 1: Mark's talking about you. Now, I didn't get that from
- 0:56Speaker 1: any other radio station or any other talk program.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Hey, now that it's all over, let me ask you
- 1:01Speaker 2: about this campaign. First of all, Now, obviously you could win,
- 1:07Speaker 2: You could out talk everybody in the race. You got
- 1:09Speaker 2: a much longer career resume than Mamdani. But they started
- 1:14Speaker 2: this mantra, he can't win, Curtis can't win, Curtis can't win.
- 1:16Speaker 2: They just drilled this into people. I heard people start
- 1:19Speaker 2: repeating it like it's true. It was ridiculous. How did
- 1:22Speaker 2: that ever get started?
- 1:25Speaker 1: But actually got started right after Andrew Cuomo tossed in
- 1:30Speaker 1: the towel because he got so badly beaten in the
- 1:33Speaker 1: primary that if you remember Mark, when he entered the
- 1:36Speaker 1: race on March first, he was at forty percent in
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Democratic polls, Zorhan Mandami was last at one percent.
- 1:44Speaker 1: By the time of June twenty four, they hadn't even
- 1:47Speaker 1: counted the rank choice votes yet he lost by thirteen percent,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and it was mos no mos Now. The big savior
- 1:54Speaker 1: then was going to be Eric Adams. They were gonna
- 1:57Speaker 1: somehow resurrect the crook out of the way and put
- 2:01Speaker 1: you know, put a new set of clothes on him
- 2:04Speaker 1: and say, oh no, he's a new Eric Adams. And
- 2:07Speaker 1: the people didn't buy it. And then every day thereafter,
- 2:09Speaker 1: the masters of the universe, the billionaires, the influences, the
- 2:13Speaker 1: insiders kept this dropout game. Drop out, you got to
- 2:16Speaker 1: drop out. He became very difficult Mark to engage in
- 2:21Speaker 1: any kind of conversation because the first question I'd have
- 2:24Speaker 1: to ask every day, answer every day was no, I'm
- 2:29Speaker 1: not dropping out. They bribed me, people were threatening to
- 2:32Speaker 1: kill me, my wife, do harm to my staff, and
- 2:35Speaker 1: I said, no, I'm not dropping out. And I lived
- 2:38Speaker 1: up to that until November fourth, where clearly Johan Mandami
- 2:41Speaker 1: was elected mayor of the City of New York by
- 2:43Speaker 1: the people of New York.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yeah, now here's a better question. You knew Andrew Cuomo
- 2:48Speaker 2: can't win. I knew he can't win. He was a
- 2:50Speaker 2: terrible governor. He did awful things as governor. Everybody can't
- 2:53Speaker 2: stand the guy. But he went around for the three
- 2:56Speaker 2: or four years to every big donor, every big Upper
- 2:58Speaker 2: East Side Southampton, all this craw and he convinced them
- 3:02Speaker 2: that only he could win. And these are otherwise very
- 3:05Speaker 2: smart people. How did they fall for this nonsense? They
- 3:08Speaker 2: actually convinced themselves only he can win.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Look, Mark, there's nobody better connected than you with all
- 3:14Speaker 1: the heavy hitters in New York, whether it's the Hamptons
- 3:17Speaker 1: or in New York City or around America. They may
- 3:20Speaker 1: be good on Wall Street, but they know nothing about
- 3:23Speaker 1: the streets in New York City. And by the way,
- 3:25Speaker 1: they know nothing about politics, as was evidence. They backed
- 3:29Speaker 1: Clomo in the primary, he lost, then they backed Derek Adams,
- 3:33Speaker 1: then they went back to back in Clomo. Look, they
- 3:36Speaker 1: may invest your money well in a hedge funt. You know,
- 3:39Speaker 1: acmen actman every day. This guy would tweet out ten
- 3:42Speaker 1: hundred and fifty two words in his mid life crisis.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But they couldn't have been more hopelessly wrong and clearly
- 3:50Speaker 1: they At first they disparaged Cuomo when he lost the Jarmandami,
- 3:54Speaker 1: then they revived him, and all they kept doing was
- 3:57Speaker 1: supporting Democrats. So I guess what you got what you wanted,
- 4:02Speaker 1: Johai Mondami. You just strengthened him and Mark. What was
- 4:04Speaker 1: that love clash between Donald Trump the President and Monday
- 4:08Speaker 1: at the White House? Come on, they played us. We
- 4:11Speaker 1: were played all during the campaign.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, uh so what do you think Mondannie? I somehow
- 4:18Speaker 2: I still think maybe he was counting the socialists, maybe,
- 4:21Speaker 2: and maybe he's not as bad as we think. What
- 4:22Speaker 2: do you think?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Well, look, he is what he is. He has not surrendered,
- 4:28Speaker 1: he has not retreated. He is an idea log everybody
- 4:31Speaker 1: who gets elected mayors entitled to a grace period. He'll
- 4:34Speaker 1: have his grace period. But unlike everybody else who in
- 4:37Speaker 1: fear frightened Stereos said, I'm selling my pristiners are moving
- 4:41Speaker 1: the Florida Hey where they go? Mark is still here?
- 4:44Speaker 1: Are you kidding? Having backdoor meetings with Sohai Mondami? So
- 4:49Speaker 1: the fact is I'm the improved o't movement. And by
- 4:52Speaker 1: the way, Matt compliment you for a second, Mark, because
- 4:55Speaker 1: you're going on this well deserved vacation. What are they
- 4:59Speaker 1: gonna do in your competition? You realize that Greg Kelly
- 5:02Speaker 1: for years would listen to your program before he would
- 5:05Speaker 1: come on in the twelve o'clock hour. Basically you would
- 5:09Speaker 1: do his show prep for him. Like comedians up in
- 5:11Speaker 1: the Borsch Belt that used to steal jokes from one another.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Well, but Greg does a great show.
- 5:15Speaker 1: They do what you away.
- 5:16Speaker 2: But we all listen to each other, we all take
- 5:18Speaker 2: from each other. It's so but.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Now your mom, Mark, But you're the best. That's why
- 5:23Speaker 1: they do it from you. They know that.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Then you got to you gotta do a good job.
- 5:26Speaker 2: In the next two weeks, Curtis will be filling in
- 5:28Speaker 2: for me. The next two weeks. Now you have done.
- 5:31Speaker 2: They used to make fun of how many hours you'd
- 5:33Speaker 2: be on the radio, twenty hours a day, fourteen hours
- 5:35Speaker 2: a day six Will you be able to fit it
- 5:38Speaker 2: into just two hours a day?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh, there's no doubt about it. Hey. Look, there
- 5:44Speaker 1: was a time at WABC, as you know, because you
- 5:46Speaker 1: and I we were together there doing the morning show
- 5:49Speaker 1: with Ron Koopy, whose mommy is at comedy who is
- 5:52Speaker 1: the predecessor to Johann Mondami. Yeah, I mean you wanted
- 5:56Speaker 1: to know what Joran Mondami was. Look, that was Don Coopy.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Three of us would sit in that room doing the
- 6:02Speaker 1: morning show. That was total chaos.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Oh that's right.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I don't know how you. I don't know how you
- 6:08Speaker 1: survived that much.
- 6:09Speaker 2: I forgot you. Yeah, you two weren't talking for about
- 6:11Speaker 2: six months. I had to like host the uh or
- 6:14Speaker 2: be the moderator of the show. You two were there.
- 6:18Speaker 2: But it's it's much better doing the show by yourself,
- 6:20Speaker 2: isn't it. It's always much better?
- 6:22Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, and I and I insisted on that I
- 6:24Speaker 1: had always done shows that partners, and I insisted that no,
- 6:28Speaker 1: if I'm the do talk radio anymore, it's gonna be solo.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I will either sink or swim based on what I say,
- 6:35Speaker 1: not based on what my partners say. But boy, you
- 6:38Speaker 1: deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. Every morning for four hours
- 6:44Speaker 1: Mark Simone the referee between Ron Koby, who was Jorhan
- 6:48Speaker 1: Mondomi before he was even born, and Curtis Sleewer, and
- 6:51Speaker 1: I mean it got hey, it got pretty hot and
- 6:55Speaker 1: heavy there. You almost had to put in a nine
- 6:57Speaker 1: to one one call sometimes.
- 7:00Speaker 2: So well, next week will be you'll have fun here.
- 7:03Speaker 2: If you've come up, you've seen the studio, you've visited,
- 7:05Speaker 2: you've in fact, a lot of your old coworkers were
- 7:09Speaker 2: here when you came. Right.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Well, let me let me tell you something for people
- 7:13Speaker 1: who don't know. Because War was the first radio station
- 7:17Speaker 1: I was ever interviewed on. I was the newspaper Boy
- 7:20Speaker 1: of the Year. I had gone to Washington, DC, got
- 7:22Speaker 1: an award for Richard Nixon and my first interview was
- 7:25Speaker 1: with Arlene Frances Whoad afternoons mid mid days, and I
- 7:31Speaker 1: got the bug. You know what it's like. You had
- 7:33Speaker 1: the bug for years, I've had the bug. And then
- 7:36Speaker 1: when Bob Grant went to War, I mean it was
- 7:39Speaker 1: a continuation and by the way. I remember when I
- 7:42Speaker 1: transported all of his items from WABC where they exiled
- 7:46Speaker 1: him to wr and then he kicked off bucks over
- 7:48Speaker 1: at WABC. You remember that you worked with him at WBCA,
- 7:52Speaker 1: back with r Peter Strauss and Ellens.
- 7:55Speaker 2: That's true, although Bob Grant and I didn't get along.
- 7:58Speaker 2: So Bob Grant was a a complicated guy. I think
- 8:01Speaker 2: you'd agree off the air, no.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Doubt about it. But let me tell you something. He
- 8:06Speaker 1: was magic on the radio, and that's all it counts. Yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 1: that's all accounts. And that's what you've been for so
- 8:12Speaker 1: many years, Mark Simone. So to be able to substitute
- 8:15Speaker 1: for you a while away, I mean, it doesn't get
- 8:18Speaker 1: any better than that. And I listened to wo R.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Now you've got a lot of great shows. I have
- 8:22Speaker 1: no reason to listen to anything else, including always blaming
- 8:28Speaker 1: Curtigs WABC, the other station.
- 8:31Speaker 2: But since you announced you're going to be here, did
- 8:33Speaker 2: they contact you? Have you heard from anybody there?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Oh? They're worried, aren't They're worried? Because remember I haven't
- 8:40Speaker 1: told the true story of what went on there, all
- 8:43Speaker 1: that drop out. You got to drop out? Where do
- 8:46Speaker 1: you think it started? Mark. It started at WABC, and
- 8:49Speaker 1: there are a lot of bones buried there. And the
- 8:52Speaker 1: question is, in the two weeks that you've given me
- 8:55Speaker 1: the opportunity of management at WOR and iHeart the substitute
- 8:58Speaker 1: for you, will I dig up any of those bones
- 9:01Speaker 1: and air they junk to what went on during the
- 9:06Speaker 1: most historical and unprecidented mayor old campaign in the history
- 9:10Speaker 1: of New York City politics.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Well, I wouldn't go after them, but I can't just
- 9:15Speaker 2: blame them. I heard this from every Upper East Side idiot,
- 9:18Speaker 2: every Hedge fund idiot. Curtis can't win. Curtis knit that
- 9:21Speaker 2: was ridiculous. He's got to drop out. It was ridiculous.
- 9:23Speaker 2: And as you say, these guys made billions at what
- 9:26Speaker 2: they know and have never made a penny given political
- 9:29Speaker 2: advice to anybody.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So, by the way, where's their friend Andrew Cuomo? Where he.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Wait?
- 9:37Speaker 1: You go as he fled to Florida like he said
- 9:40Speaker 1: he would do if Joran Mondommi got elected. Man, come on, Mark,
- 9:43Speaker 1: you know everything where is into?
- 9:47Speaker 2: I think they now realized we were right. This guy
- 9:49Speaker 2: couldn't win anything anymore. And I don't think we're done
- 9:51Speaker 2: with him. He'll try and come back again, but hey,
- 9:53Speaker 2: we're out of time. But everybody listened. Next week, for
- 9:56Speaker 2: the next two weeks Curtis Ly will be filling in
- 9:58Speaker 2: for me ten to noon. Curtisly with ten to noon,
- 10:02Speaker 2: be listening, and of course follow him on Instagram and
- 10:05Speaker 2: Twitter and all of that. So well, Curtis, good luck.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Next week I'll be listening, have a good time.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Well, thank you. I know where all the boats are
- 10:13Speaker 1: buried them to bury them, and I may be digging
- 10:16Speaker 1: them up for the two weeks that you're away.
- 10:19Speaker 2: All right, we'll talk to you again soon. Thanks, take care,
- 10:23Speaker 2: Thank you Mary. Thanks, yeah, make sure next week. I'll
- 10:25Speaker 2: be off next week, in the week after I've been
- 10:27Speaker 2: taking the next two weeks off, final two weeks of
- 10:29Speaker 2: the year by Christmas break. Curtis will be here every morning.
- 10:33Speaker 2: This should be really interesting stuff. Curtis every morning for
- 10:36Speaker 2: the next two weeks ten to noon here on seven
- 10:40Speaker 2: to ten WR
