- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, Nettle is a confusing game, isn't it. We don't
- 0:10Speaker 1: know what a replay is anymore. No one knows what
- 0:12Speaker 1: a short pass is anymore. But what we do know
- 0:15Speaker 1: is that you are here for a short chat. The
- 0:18Speaker 1: long'st chat, a medium chat with No Dribble. You're on
- 0:22Speaker 1: No Dribble Strabag. Hello and welcome to Friday. Welcome to
- 0:37Speaker 1: No Dribble, the podcast where we talk about netbil, we
- 0:39Speaker 1: talk about so much more. My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I'm lose Ellis, I'm Sue Guardian.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I am Susan Gordion am. Yes, please remember you're required
- 0:50Speaker 1: to use those letters as often as you can. Liz,
- 0:53Speaker 1: why are you here?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Why am I here? Yeah?
- 0:56Speaker 1: I mean I know you why you're here in the podcast,
- 0:58Speaker 1: But why do I get to have you here? Well?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Why isn't katherin here for started? She's at a junior
- 1:03Speaker 1: netfall comp for the day.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So oh, knew were missing someone? Now thank you for mentioning.
- 1:09Speaker 1: That cancering's off at the rodeo again.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah, So I'm here because I have been doing somewhat
- 1:19Speaker 3: for the Asthma Foundation, and interestingly, we're launching a campaign
- 1:25Speaker 3: which is called she Needs to Breathe, and it basically
- 1:29Speaker 3: is about getting GPS to talk to women at different
- 1:33Speaker 3: stages of their lives about asthma. And what I have
- 1:36Speaker 3: learned through this campaign when they came to and said,
- 1:38Speaker 3: would you like to do this campaign?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Obviously because I have the asthma.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you seem so hale and hearty.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Look I am, but I've had the asthma since I
- 1:47Speaker 3: was a kid. But what I learned through when I
- 1:51Speaker 3: first spoke to the people the eyes of the Asthma
- 1:54Speaker 3: Foundation was that women are affected by asthma far more
- 1:59Speaker 3: than men. So it affects young boys more than young girls.
- 2:02Speaker 3: But once puberty hits, that switches, so twice as many
- 2:05Speaker 3: limen die from asthma than meant. Right, I didn't know
- 2:08Speaker 3: this was a human's health problem. I just thought it was,
- 2:10Speaker 3: you know, a light problem. But it's a women's health problem.
- 2:12Speaker 2: So there's a campaign now to get GPS to speak
- 2:15Speaker 2: to women at all different phases of their lives.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Because your asthma changes with hormones, so puberty, pregnancy, perimeno bores, menopause,
- 2:24Speaker 3: and then in older age, as your hormones change, your
- 2:26Speaker 3: asthma changes. So I was down here to do some
- 2:29Speaker 3: things with dis launch and some media, and I thought, oh, well,
- 2:33Speaker 3: if that means that I can come in and hang
- 2:36Speaker 3: out with my.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Mate and that's very acute. Well that's not a bad
- 2:41Speaker 2: result out of curiosity. Have you so you have you
- 2:44Speaker 2: had asthma all your life? Oh? My life? I can't
- 2:47Speaker 2: remember a time where I didn't wheeze, right, okay? And
- 2:51Speaker 2: so then based on have you had, did you notice
- 2:54Speaker 2: changes at those points? Yeah?
- 2:58Speaker 3: Yeah, So when I was little, my ass were presented
- 3:00Speaker 3: as the waze where now it presents is really heavinous
- 3:02Speaker 3: in my chest. So, and one of the interesting things
- 3:06Speaker 3: was when I was little, my parents I got diagnosed,
- 3:09Speaker 3: but I was a kid, so I didn't know what
- 3:10Speaker 3: I couldn't you're a key. You had no idea what
- 3:13Speaker 3: the doctor's saying to your parents.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And I got diagnosed with severe asthma, but mum and
- 3:17Speaker 2: dad decided to not tell me I had severe asthma.
- 3:20Speaker 3: They used to tell me I was a mild asthmatic.
- 3:23Speaker 3: And they did that so that I didn't think that
- 3:24Speaker 3: I couldn't do stuff. So they didn't want me to
- 3:26Speaker 3: be defined by being asthmatic. It's interesting, isn't it, but
- 3:32Speaker 3: I got selected in my first Diamond team and we
- 3:34Speaker 3: went and did all the screening and do you remember
- 3:36Speaker 3: Grace Bryant, She was the Diamonds doctor. Grace she's been
- 3:40Speaker 3: she's like an institution in Australian sports medicine. And she
- 3:43Speaker 3: did all the tests and she said, oh, okay, so
- 3:45Speaker 3: you and your foot.
- 3:46Speaker 2: In the form of mard asthma.
- 3:48Speaker 3: She goes and she set me off to get to
- 3:51Speaker 3: do some testing so to get a baseline, and she
- 3:55Speaker 3: said to me, you know you're not a mild asthmatic
- 3:58Speaker 3: and I was like, yeah, I am, I've always asthma.
- 4:00Speaker 3: She has, Yeah, you're a severe asthmatic, so we need
- 4:03Speaker 3: to treat you accordingly. So I rade mum and said,
- 4:06Speaker 3: did you know that I was a severe severe asthmatic?
- 4:09Speaker 3: Chairs yeah, so well, like you tell me, She's like, oh,
- 4:13Speaker 3: we just didn't want.
- 4:13Speaker 2: To make a big deal out of it. Your father
- 4:15Speaker 2: and I thought you'd be much better if you just
- 4:16Speaker 2: thought you were mild. So it was amazing, Like, I
- 4:19Speaker 2: don't know that you want to pro tick. You might
- 4:22Speaker 2: not want to do that with your.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Kids down blow their medical issues so that they don't
- 4:26Speaker 3: think about them too much because then we had to
- 4:29Speaker 3: go and get like a management plan.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And yeah, Grace was fantastic. But I really appreciate the
- 4:34Speaker 2: fact that Mum and dad just never let me think
- 4:36Speaker 2: that I could define yourself here I myself or not
- 4:39Speaker 2: do something because of, you know, of being asthmatic. So
- 4:42Speaker 2: but now, and since I went through fertility treatment and
- 4:47Speaker 2: I wrote my book, I'm really about about fertility and
- 4:51Speaker 2: whether it's fertility or anything else or asthma, I'm really
- 4:54Speaker 2: passionate about the fact that women have to be their
- 4:58Speaker 2: own best advocate in the healthcare setting. And we're seeing
- 5:01Speaker 2: that now, like the City Morning Herald to run an
- 5:03Speaker 2: excellent series about medical misogyny. And I think you know,
- 5:08Speaker 2: in the past it's always been the doctor knows best.
- 5:11Speaker 2: That doesn't mean you go in and your Google, you
- 5:12Speaker 2: get doctor Google or glean paring your doctor. You actually
- 5:15Speaker 2: should ask questions, you should push for a different opinion
- 5:19Speaker 2: if you feel like you're not getting treated seriously with
- 5:21Speaker 2: your symptoms. And a lot of women don't when it
- 5:24Speaker 2: comes to asthma, so or there's a lot going on
- 5:26Speaker 2: and they don't mention it to their doctor. So this
- 5:28Speaker 2: whole campaign is about getting GPS to proactively speak to women.
- 5:32Speaker 2: But it's also about getting women to be proactive about
- 5:34Speaker 2: going to speak to their doctor. So when you're at
- 5:37Speaker 2: your doctor, if you feel anything's changed, going have that
- 5:39Speaker 2: conversation because you might need a renewal of your asthma
- 5:43Speaker 2: management plan. And it's not just asthmirates everything else. I'm
- 5:46Speaker 2: so determined to harp on it for as long as
- 5:49Speaker 2: I can. That nobody knows your health stro like you do,
- 5:53Speaker 2: and nobody can advocate on behalf of you like you do, right,
- 5:57Speaker 2: so take control, don't be afraid to ask ess so
- 6:01Speaker 2: that you coming to tech drag. I proactively went to
- 6:04Speaker 2: the doctor because I thought I had ASTHMONI just told
- 6:06Speaker 2: me I was unfit, struggling to breathe a little bit
- 6:14Speaker 2: at one point in my time.
- 6:17Speaker 1: It's so interesting this this stuff, this medical misogyny stuff.
- 6:20Speaker 1: As you say that, it's like, but it's like until
- 6:22Speaker 1: nineteen ninety three, they weren't required to study women's health
- 6:26Speaker 1: in med school. So that means that the people I
- 6:30Speaker 1: went through my contemporaries at university were not studying women's self.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Like this is something these sort of think. All the
- 6:37Speaker 2: all the.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Old men doctors, they wouldn't know that. But it's like,
- 6:40Speaker 1: nineteen ninety three is not that long ago. But even
- 6:44Speaker 1: with all of the information at our disposal and the like,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I had a rough run with planet of fasciitis up
- 6:51Speaker 1: until about twelve months ago. That's related to menopause and perimenopause.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And it's like, is it what the fuck new sore
- 6:57Speaker 1: feet is from?
- 6:58Speaker 2: You know?
- 6:59Speaker 1: And it's like, unless we're talking about these things that,
- 7:01Speaker 1: you know, we just go, well, there's no way I
- 7:03Speaker 1: would talk to my doctor about that because I just go,
- 7:06Speaker 1: it's just musclesareness in my feet. It's very painful and unpleasant,
- 7:10Speaker 1: muscle saun but you know, you roll them out, do
- 7:13Speaker 1: all these other exercises. But you know, it's seeing pedietrists
- 7:17Speaker 1: and the like. And it wasn't until I went to
- 7:21Speaker 1: I went to a pedietist in Balmain who has actually
- 7:23Speaker 1: worked with both the Swiss and the and the Giants,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and just in passing she said, oh, yeah, it's not
- 7:29Speaker 1: not an uncommon thing for perimenopausal and menopausal women to
- 7:32Speaker 1: get planted fasciotists. Well, you would not think that what's
- 7:37Speaker 1: going on with your hormones is actually going to be
- 7:40Speaker 1: impacting the souls of your feet. And it's incredible all
- 7:43Speaker 1: the different things that it does impact. And you know
- 7:47Speaker 1: how we meant to know that if our doctors don't
- 7:49Speaker 1: know that. So it is a you know very much
- 7:52Speaker 1: about advocating for yourself and and and I guess even
- 7:57Speaker 1: being aware when you're at the GP of what are
- 7:59Speaker 1: the things that are going going on in my body?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Because I'll often go and go, I'm here for a newscript,
- 8:03Speaker 1: and how's this going, how's that going? And unless I've
- 8:06Speaker 1: spent some time thinking about it before I go into
- 8:08Speaker 1: the GP to say, you know, oh, well here's some
- 8:12Speaker 1: here's some things. Is there anything interesting in that? Well,
- 8:15Speaker 1: he can't work with what I get in.
- 8:17Speaker 2: So yeah, it's interesting, isn't it?
- 8:19Speaker 3: And from us if you think about we're a netball podcast,
- 8:23Speaker 3: so you go back to netball and to sport even research,
- 8:26Speaker 3: so in the past, and there was no requirement that
- 8:31Speaker 3: research had to be done on men and women. It
- 8:33Speaker 3: was just madely done on men, and then women were
- 8:36Speaker 3: treaded as small men. Yeah, and so things like ACL injuries,
- 8:42Speaker 3: there's a.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Link to your hormones and to the time of your cycle.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And so you would see this with your work directly
- 8:47Speaker 2: with athletes. So absolutely research needs to be done on
- 8:50Speaker 2: women because your menstrual cycle has a massive impact on
- 8:53Speaker 2: your physiology. Yeah, World Netball, I just got an email
- 8:57Speaker 2: just recently, World Netball. There is a study currently going
- 9:00Speaker 2: on around connection to ACL and mental cycles. So they're
- 9:06Speaker 2: asking for elite athletes and coaches and medical staff, et
- 9:10Speaker 2: cetera to engage in that research so that we can understand.
- 9:13Speaker 2: They know that there's a link, but they want to
- 9:14Speaker 2: get a better understanding of that link and then like
- 9:18Speaker 2: the preventative measures, right because you know, obviously as a
- 9:21Speaker 2: women's dominated sport, it's a fairly important piece of our
- 9:26Speaker 2: puzzle to try and eradicate if we can from the
- 9:29Speaker 2: game because acls take seasons away. Sunday our an is
- 9:32Speaker 2: just a great example of you know, that horrific scene
- 9:36Speaker 2: at the end of the Internationals, you know, and then
- 9:38Speaker 2: you're not playing this year and missing a Commonwealth game.
- 9:41Speaker 2: So that's the last thing we want for any athlete for.
- 9:45Speaker 1: And it happens, you know, when at the time girls
- 9:47Speaker 1: are hitting puberty too.
- 9:49Speaker 2: There's a lot more of sports.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Related injuries for exactly the same reason. They've got all
- 9:53Speaker 1: of these hormones going through their system, and you know
- 9:56Speaker 1: there's and that's a time when girls are going to
- 9:58Speaker 1: drop out. Most likely to drop had a sport too,
- 10:00Speaker 1: So it's really critical that we get a better understanding
- 10:04Speaker 1: of all of these things and the impact that it has.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Because you know, you play sport, I reckon you're going
- 10:10Speaker 1: to a happier life.
- 10:11Speaker 2: That's yes, God, you know, with athlete management systems, I've
- 10:17Speaker 2: been out of the game for a long time now,
- 10:18Speaker 2: so in terms of being a player, so I'm interested
- 10:20Speaker 2: in what happens. Yeah, there's athlete management systems and the
- 10:24Speaker 2: athletes record how they're feeling, and do you tailor training
- 10:29Speaker 2: or rest periods or recovery around menstrual cycles? Are we
- 10:32Speaker 2: that sort of in tune with that sort of stuff? Yet? Ah,
- 10:36Speaker 2: that's very play individual because as we all know, menstrual
- 10:39Speaker 2: cycles vary in terms of intensity and et cetera. Everyone
- 10:43Speaker 2: has has different scenarios and some players are on you know,
- 10:47Speaker 2: medications or whatnot that you know that they don't get
- 10:50Speaker 2: their cycle during the season. Some choose to do that sometime.
- 10:54Speaker 2: But it looks you know, like I mean, it's monitored.
- 10:56Speaker 2: It's more it's more the other aspects around it. That
- 10:59Speaker 2: can become with fatigue, So some players will cite fatigue
- 11:03Speaker 2: around that period of time, lack of sleep that can
- 11:06Speaker 2: often be part and parcel around a mental cycle. So
- 11:10Speaker 2: those things are noted they but specifically tailoring training around
- 11:15Speaker 2: around a mental cycle. It would be more the information
- 11:19Speaker 2: you take to that into the bigger picture and the
- 11:21Speaker 2: load management of that athlete at that point in time.
- 11:24Speaker 2: But again, as I said to you, I think the
- 11:26Speaker 2: research that is inevitably going to be done will play
- 11:31Speaker 2: big piece moving forward in us understanding understanding better. And
- 11:36Speaker 2: actually I think Liz understanding earlier, like Carolyne you just mentioned,
- 11:40Speaker 2: you know, at a younger age, understanding the impacts on
- 11:43Speaker 2: athletes earlier, so that when they're getting into pathway systems
- 11:48Speaker 2: and then at that elite level where we're better, they're
- 11:52Speaker 2: better and we're better for it, not just sort of
- 11:53Speaker 2: dealing with the elite product. I think it's through the system.
- 11:57Speaker 2: So I'm excited to see what comes from that. Cool
- 12:00Speaker 2: good chat.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Good chat. But yeah, make sure if you if you
- 12:04Speaker 1: have asthma, talk to your GP about how to change
- 12:07Speaker 1: your treatment plans.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Just going your treatment plan.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I feel like before we have a break and come
- 12:13Speaker 1: back and talk about netball. We've given Margaret Ellis's parenting
- 12:16Speaker 1: a bit of a hammering in the.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Last couple of bees, but I won't like to say.
- 12:19Speaker 1: You know, have you ever heard an interview with Kurt Fernley,
- 12:22Speaker 1: you know, just legendary paralympian Kurt Firmley grew up in Kawa,
- 12:27Speaker 1: one of a number of kids in his family, and
- 12:31Speaker 1: you know, it's just great to hear the way he
- 12:33Speaker 1: was brought up and you know, he clearly didn't have
- 12:35Speaker 1: the lower body mobility or development that his siblings did,
- 12:40Speaker 1: and they just went keep up, you know, and then
- 12:43Speaker 1: the town got together and raised money to get him
- 12:46Speaker 1: a racing wheelchair. But you know, again, his parents didn't
- 12:49Speaker 1: let him define himself by what was, you know, a
- 12:54Speaker 1: significant disability, and you talked about, well this suben you
- 12:59Speaker 1: have to deal with, mate, get after it. And you
- 13:01Speaker 1: know what an extraordinary athlete came out of that self belief.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah, good word, Margaret. Yeah, I was just quickly. I
- 13:11Speaker 2: was just thinking about this actually only this week that
- 13:14Speaker 2: this word resilience, right, like, you know, I feel like
- 13:19Speaker 2: that I feel like our generation like we will build time. Well,
- 13:24Speaker 2: our generation nothing compared to the generation for ours resilience. Like,
- 13:27Speaker 2: I just feel like this word resilience is slowly dwindly.
- 13:30Speaker 2: I don't know if that's right or wrong, but I
- 13:32Speaker 2: just I just hope that the current generation can continue
- 13:36Speaker 2: to build resilience. I think it's really important. It's such
- 13:38Speaker 2: an like it's such a powerful word and it can
- 13:41Speaker 2: be used so often, and like you hear you know,
- 13:44Speaker 2: like you know your mum lives, I mean, like she
- 13:47Speaker 2: really just built resilience in you, didn't she as well? Right,
- 13:49Speaker 2: like get out, keep at it whatever, ye.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Should pay attention to that one.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Do you know what?
- 13:59Speaker 3: Actually it does come into my parenting because when my
- 14:03Speaker 3: kids were little, oh this is going to say, really mean,
- 14:06Speaker 3: I would do things to make them be resilient. So
- 14:09Speaker 3: I would just walk in and say television goes off
- 14:11Speaker 3: in three two one and they lose it fun.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Then five minutes started old fun. I was like, see,
- 14:16Speaker 2: you can get over it. And I still do things
- 14:18Speaker 2: from them now. I mean it's not mean, it's not illegal,
- 14:21Speaker 2: but I do things to make them be risky, resilient.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I don't know, I've probably telling, but then when they win,
- 14:26Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, hey, hey, you're going to have something
- 14:29Speaker 2: to tell your therapist.
- 14:30Speaker 1: So my hot parenting tip for people with young children
- 14:33Speaker 1: is you do you know they try to go to
- 14:34Speaker 1: sleep in the car when you're about eighteen months two
- 14:36Speaker 1: years old. They go to sleep two minutes before you
- 14:39Speaker 1: get in nice for nap time, and then they go, no,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I'm fine, I've just had a sleep.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Look.
- 14:45Speaker 1: This isn't going to be in any books you read,
- 14:46Speaker 1: but this is why you listen to this podcast for
- 14:48Speaker 1: the parenting tips that you can't get in official channels.
- 14:52Speaker 1: We kept a little water pistol in the cop.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Love it, Oh, I love that the window. Wish I'd
- 15:02Speaker 2: have thought of a what can you imagine driving past
- 15:05Speaker 2: the cough and one head on the wheel.
- 15:08Speaker 1: It's a little siny whale shaped one that they used
- 15:11Speaker 1: in the bar. I don't know that it was my
- 15:14Speaker 1: finest moment as a parent.
- 15:16Speaker 4: But you know, whatever gets you through the day, right, Yes,
- 15:21Speaker 4: all right, We're gonna take a little break and if
- 15:22Speaker 4: you come back and talk about some netball, netball, netball, netball.
- 15:38Speaker 1: There's not a lot left of this season. There are
- 15:41Speaker 1: two games left in the Super Netball season, so we've
- 15:44Speaker 1: got to suck the life out of this. But then
- 15:46Speaker 1: we've also got I would like us to talk about
- 15:50Speaker 1: the signings period, which I know is probably a night
- 15:53Speaker 1: It is a nightmare for you, Sue. It's probably a
- 15:56Speaker 1: nightmare for you, Liz, because you've got a whole lot
- 15:58Speaker 1: of other stuff that has But for someone like me,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I'm just going to sit back and crack open a
- 16:03Speaker 1: wine and look at social media. I can't wait for
- 16:05Speaker 1: the map social media team this year for the announcements
- 16:08Speaker 1: of tea Birds were great with their announcements this year
- 16:10Speaker 1: and the like so. But first of all, let's talk
- 16:12Speaker 1: about Actually, one thing I want to talk about is
- 16:16Speaker 1: the Heffenans. So Georgia Hefferanan on the weekend played in
- 16:20Speaker 1: a preliminary final for Southern Steel versus Tactics. At the
- 16:23Speaker 1: same time, her twin sister Kate was playing for the
- 16:27Speaker 1: Thunderbirds in the what the hell do we call a
- 16:30Speaker 1: semi final?
- 16:31Speaker 2: Daryl says, you're.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Right, yes, and they've gone on for the Southern Steel
- 16:36Speaker 1: Beatax Tactics sixty to fifty four. So his to mister
- 16:40Speaker 1: and missus Heffernan, who I don't know, how do you
- 16:42Speaker 1: decide what to watch on delay?
- 16:44Speaker 2: And what you what? I would have watched?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Kate on delay, working on the assumption that she's probably
- 16:50Speaker 1: going to be going through to the Grand Final. But yeah,
- 16:53Speaker 1: so George, it's got a game this week, Kates a
- 16:55Speaker 1: game next week. Twins like George and Kate Heathnan, the
- 16:58Speaker 1: Cransberg Twins, like the It's insane, isn't it.
- 17:02Speaker 2: I mean the beauty for the Cransburg's, the parents that
- 17:05Speaker 2: you know, they're in the same team, and it was
- 17:07Speaker 2: same for Vrombertos in their time as well, in the
- 17:10Speaker 2: same team. But for the Heavenens they're not just only
- 17:13Speaker 2: different teams, they're in different countries, right.
- 17:15Speaker 1: The different time zones different a.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Little bit different time zone. But by all accounts, both
- 17:22Speaker 2: syst well, we know Kate Heffernan's having a blinder, but
- 17:25Speaker 2: I think I think her sisters having a ripper season
- 17:28Speaker 2: as well, which was great, and being named in the
- 17:30Speaker 2: Silks to play in Common Games. So yeah, like, irrespective
- 17:34Speaker 2: of how that all works out to players in form
- 17:37Speaker 2: for the Silver Fans leading into Common Games, it's pretty exciting.
- 17:40Speaker 1: A lot of players in form for the Silver fans
- 17:42Speaker 1: leading into the Common Games. I think it was much And.
- 17:47Speaker 2: How's that, you know, Like, I mean, just quickly we digress,
- 17:50Speaker 2: but it's netball digress, so we're allowed to digress. Nolin
- 17:55Speaker 2: Tartu coming out this week. We're going for gold. The
- 18:00Speaker 2: statement has been made. The silver Ferns are going for God. Now,
- 18:03Speaker 2: I know that sounds stupid because you don't go to
- 18:05Speaker 2: the Commonwealth Games and don't go for gold. But you
- 18:07Speaker 2: wait for it to be said by you wait for
- 18:10Speaker 2: it to be said by Dame Nolen Tara or that
- 18:12Speaker 2: means business. And like you think about the turmoil that's
- 18:15Speaker 2: happened with the Silver Ferns and stepping and all of that,
- 18:20Speaker 2: and now apparently all back on track within reason, side
- 18:24Speaker 2: selected and Nolin now out and the voice piece is
- 18:28Speaker 2: where we're going for it? Well, wouldn't you say that
- 18:30Speaker 2: when you're having a look at the form of some
- 18:31Speaker 2: of your players in the league over here? Kellie Jackson
- 18:36Speaker 2: took every award at the Firebirds. You see that she
- 18:39Speaker 2: took every award at the Firebirds dinner ever award. Kellie
- 18:43Speaker 2: Jackson coaching no one else. Naddy Gordon I thought played
- 18:51Speaker 2: some really good netball in the back end of the
- 18:53Speaker 2: season when she'd sort of got her injury right. Heffernan
- 18:57Speaker 2: just insane k Heffen's a pick. She's been amazing. Karen
- 19:03Speaker 2: Berger also had a blinder of a season.
- 19:05Speaker 1: You know, I think who key We netball fans really
- 19:09Speaker 1: need to thank, and that is Grace workI because because
- 19:13Speaker 1: Grace had the courage to step out of what was
- 19:15Speaker 1: then the rule about Silver Ferns eligibility and she went
- 19:19Speaker 1: no one and go and play with the Swifts for
- 19:21Speaker 1: a while. That put pressure on New Zealand Netball to
- 19:26Speaker 1: change that rule, which then meant we had all of
- 19:29Speaker 1: these amazing key We players coming over here at this year,
- 19:33Speaker 1: which has been great for our season, but has been
- 19:36Speaker 1: sensational for the Silver Ferns leading into colm games because
- 19:40Speaker 1: they have all had this season now playing in the
- 19:43Speaker 1: best comp in the world leading it. So, you know,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I wouldn't be at all surprised. I've a pissed. I
- 19:50Speaker 1: wouldn't be at all surprised if they did get the gold
- 19:52Speaker 1: medal this time.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think what's been interesting And I think
- 19:57Speaker 2: Coxy said it a few weeks ago on on the
- 20:00Speaker 2: dribble around, you know, like she probably spoke up a
- 20:02Speaker 2: little bit earlier in the season to say they hadn't
- 20:04Speaker 2: really a lot of the Ferns imports hadn't really lit
- 20:07Speaker 2: the season on fire. You know, they're a bit but
- 20:09Speaker 2: it just took them a little while to understand, as
- 20:12Speaker 2: it does with a lot of imports in this leet.
- 20:14Speaker 2: When you step in to the world's best netball league,
- 20:16Speaker 2: it takes a bit of time to find the tempo,
- 20:19Speaker 2: the rhythm, the style of game and new club, et cetera.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But those Silver Ferns players have all found form at
- 20:26Speaker 2: the right end of the season. And like if you
- 20:28Speaker 2: were the Silver Fans coach Arnie Knowles, you'd be rubbing
- 20:31Speaker 2: your hands together. So that statement, I think there's a
- 20:35Speaker 2: lot of weight and power behind that statement and also
- 20:37Speaker 2: too within reason. When you look at the the two
- 20:42Speaker 2: what do you call them pools for Commonwealth Games? Ozzie's
- 20:47Speaker 2: have got the tough pool. They've got England and they've
- 20:50Speaker 2: got South Africa. New Zealand have Jamaica now Jamaica and
- 20:54Speaker 2: no throwaway but they don't have they don't have foul
- 20:58Speaker 2: and Emma Aiken, George Nelson whilst the team hasn't been announced, Shit,
- 21:05Speaker 2: there's an inside for you. But do you know what
- 21:07Speaker 2: I mean? Like that they're not going to have well
- 21:09Speaker 2: I'm assuming they don't, but they're not going to have
- 21:12Speaker 2: the power at the front that they usually have. They'll
- 21:14Speaker 2: certainly have the back, but not the power at the front.
- 21:16Speaker 2: So like ferns probably have an easier run to the
- 21:20Speaker 2: goalpost than the others.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I don't know, interesting, it's exciting. I just remind everyone
- 21:27Speaker 1: I have two passports, so you know I can jump
- 21:30Speaker 1: on what out of bandwagon? I wait, you know I'm Australian,
- 21:36Speaker 1: not happy jan, I'm Australian. I didn't get up to
- 21:39Speaker 1: watch the soccer eos on Saturday morning, though I did
- 21:41Speaker 1: wake up at six and look at my phone and go,
- 21:43Speaker 1: they're too kneel down off, I'll you just watch it
- 21:45Speaker 1: from bed.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I didn't get up. I'm got up and I said
- 21:48Speaker 2: to my husband as I go a bed, I must
- 21:50Speaker 2: really out a sign, m oh, did did you get it?
- 21:54Speaker 2: Did Astin get up? Austin is obsessed, obsessed with soccer obsessed?
- 22:00Speaker 2: That's true. Yeah, And I thought he was like, Mommy,
- 22:03Speaker 2: can you get up? And I thought they'll.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Come a time, can't expelled Kapauhey were like, Mum, please
- 22:08Speaker 3: don't come anywhere near meet So I thought, right, and
- 22:10Speaker 3: I just excused to line the b bag and cuddle him.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Oh, I saw something incredible this morning, and I took
- 22:15Speaker 1: a screenshot of it because I wanted to share it.
- 22:17Speaker 1: So there is a woman in Where's she from? She's
- 22:21Speaker 1: from Ecuador. In nineteen ninety eight, a woman in Ecuador
- 22:24Speaker 1: entered a Coca Cola raffle thinking she'd won a trip
- 22:27Speaker 1: to the World Cup. She'd actually won a trip to
- 22:29Speaker 1: every World Cup for the rest of her life. Wow,
- 22:32Speaker 1: Maria Jesus Pinagotte, I very much apologize for the pronunciation.
- 22:38Speaker 1: There has now attended eight consecutive tournaments France ninety eight, Korea,
- 22:42Speaker 1: Japan two thousand and two, Germany two thousand and six,
- 22:45Speaker 1: South Africa twenty ten, Brazil twenty fourteen, Russia eighteen, Katat
- 22:50Speaker 1: twenty two and now US in twenty twenty six, all
- 22:52Speaker 1: from a raffle she entered twenty eight years ago. House
- 22:55Speaker 1: sensational and like young men she was watching play at
- 22:58Speaker 1: the first one. Are now like coaches? What do they
- 23:02Speaker 1: call the team managers that I don't understand the geffer
- 23:06Speaker 1: the geffer, Godie, what were you going to say?
- 23:09Speaker 2: No? I was just going to say, like Federation Square
- 23:12Speaker 2: in Melbourne So I was in Melbourne the previous week
- 23:15Speaker 2: obviously for the Fever Vixen's Round fourteen game, and that
- 23:22Speaker 2: was the first Ossie game that where we won. I
- 23:25Speaker 2: can't remember who we played, and Federation Square was set
- 23:29Speaker 2: up and the amount of people that came to fed
- 23:32Speaker 2: Square to watch the game was incredible. I was like, Oh,
- 23:34Speaker 2: that's terrific. But then I was really disappointed, and this
- 23:38Speaker 2: is what just hope Australia doesn't get to this point, right.
- 23:42Speaker 2: So I watched then some footage of game two, which
- 23:44Speaker 2: was the three am or would depend would six five
- 23:47Speaker 2: am with you on the East Coast game, and again
- 23:50Speaker 2: Federation Square was pulsating like insane, to the point that
- 23:55Speaker 2: so many people had turned up they couldn't get them
- 23:58Speaker 2: into fed Square. And then the madness started and people
- 24:03Speaker 2: were pushing and barriers started to fall down and people
- 24:06Speaker 2: were jumping, and I just go like, there's just that
- 24:11Speaker 2: for me, like as a mad sports fan, I go,
- 24:15Speaker 2: but there's just no space for that sort of behavior.
- 24:18Speaker 2: And I just I know the world game and I
- 24:22Speaker 2: love the passion and I love how it again I
- 24:26Speaker 2: watch things like this and I go sport is one
- 24:29Speaker 2: of the most incredible vehicles for human togetherness right, and
- 24:34Speaker 2: can also on a dime turn very quickly. You look
- 24:38Speaker 2: at the NBA Finals over in New York and the
- 24:41Speaker 2: Knicks fans decided they want to bloody rip up the
- 24:44Speaker 2: city after the Knicks winner game. I mean, what sort
- 24:46Speaker 2: of behavior is that. It's just stupid. So I get
- 24:50Speaker 2: I love it on one hand, but like, can I
- 24:53Speaker 2: just say to all of those young men out there
- 24:55Speaker 2: that listen to the Note Trooper podcasts, because I think
- 25:00Speaker 2: in the event diagram of like people ripping up the city
- 25:03Speaker 2: and listening to the I don't know that there is
- 25:06Speaker 2: an overlap.
- 25:07Speaker 1: But Auntie Susan has some advice Auntie Susan.
- 25:10Speaker 2: And that is to all the dribble parents out there
- 25:14Speaker 2: that have sons that turn up to Federation Squirrel anywhere else,
- 25:18Speaker 2: please tell them to behave Like I know I sound old,
- 25:22Speaker 2: but like, honestly, watching footage like that, I go from
- 25:25Speaker 2: one moment where I'm watching the footage and it just
- 25:28Speaker 2: is so patriotic and the way they sung the national
- 25:31Speaker 2: anthem like honestly just unreal. And you know, I'm the
- 25:36Speaker 2: big I love that sort of stuff, but in a dime,
- 25:39Speaker 2: I'm then just so disappointed with such pathetic, stupid, immature
- 25:44Speaker 2: behavior that's unnecessary. And they all just think they're bloody heroes.
- 25:48Speaker 2: They're dickheads. They go from heroes to dickheads. Sorry that
- 25:54Speaker 2: segment called anti suster Wolf. I just love that buddy.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Every get your Shit Together by Sue Gordian. Yeah, can
- 26:06Speaker 1: I are you avoiding talking about this weekend's game though?
- 26:10Speaker 1: Is that what's going on here? In talking about all
- 26:13Speaker 1: these young.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah, as we speak, I'm on an aeroplane vice as
- 26:16Speaker 2: we speak.
- 26:18Speaker 1: It's an amazing world. This is a live podcast, and Sue,
- 26:22Speaker 1: it's Friday.
- 26:22Speaker 2: She's on a plane.
- 26:24Speaker 1: So Vixen's Fever, I'm going to I reckon Fever have
- 26:29Speaker 1: got this one. As I said, you know, underestimate the
- 26:33Speaker 1: Vixen's at your peril. But when I look at the
- 26:35Speaker 1: path that they have both had to get here, I
- 26:39Speaker 1: think that Fever have been building and I think that
- 26:43Speaker 1: now I do have to make an apology. I did
- 26:45Speaker 1: say that. I did say last week's episode that Vixen's
- 26:48Speaker 1: haven't had a win since about round nine, but this
- 26:53Speaker 1: is their run. In round seven they beat Fever by six.
- 26:55Speaker 1: In round eight they had a win, but it was
- 26:57Speaker 1: the Giants by two. Round nine they had a win
- 26:59Speaker 1: it was a five Birds by twenty three, so again
- 27:01Speaker 1: two teams at the bottom of the ladder. Round ten
- 27:04Speaker 1: they lost to Lightning. Round eleven they beat the Swifts
- 27:07Speaker 1: by ten, but all four of those games were teams
- 27:10Speaker 1: sitting who did not make the finals. Then they've had
- 27:14Speaker 1: Round twelve they lost to Thunderbirds by nineteen. Round thirteen
- 27:17Speaker 1: they lost to mAbs by nine. Round fourteen they lost
- 27:20Speaker 1: to Fever by nine, and then of course last week
- 27:22Speaker 1: in the final they lost that by fourteen. Contrast that
- 27:26Speaker 1: to Fever. They have Hades. Round twelve they lost to
- 27:30Speaker 1: Mavericks by three, but round thirteen they beat the Giants.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Round fourteen they beat the Vixens in Melbourne and in
- 27:36Speaker 1: the semi final they beat the mAbs by four. So
- 27:39Speaker 1: I just I feel like it will be Fever going
- 27:44Speaker 1: to the finals.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Elizabeth, was you us? Yeah?
- 27:48Speaker 1: Would you or anyone cared to comment on my well
- 27:52Speaker 1: argued backed up by facts and stats channeling Darryl Milton point.
- 27:59Speaker 3: I think the preliminary fund is always tough because you've
- 28:04Speaker 3: got a team that's come off a loss and they're disappointed,
- 28:06Speaker 3: and a team that's come off a win, and in
- 28:09Speaker 3: this case, the team that's come off a win is building.
- 28:11Speaker 3: The team that's come off for loss is sort of
- 28:14Speaker 3: they look that their results don't suggest that they're traveling
- 28:18Speaker 3: particularly well. I think the home crowd will come into
- 28:21Speaker 3: it for Vixen's and it's I think we're going to
- 28:25Speaker 3: get a really desperate match. I think both teams will
- 28:29Speaker 3: play really desperate netbook. I know they'll have to, as
- 28:33Speaker 3: hunder Burns will be really happy watching both teams be
- 28:36Speaker 3: really desperate.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I just think you go into this and the form,
- 28:39Speaker 3: the form suggests Fever for the win, the class and
- 28:46Speaker 3: the talent in the Vixen's team, you think.
- 28:49Speaker 2: I know, yeah, I'll probably just sat there. I'm sitting
- 28:52Speaker 2: on the fence. I frequs switching like this for me,
- 28:57Speaker 2: and I've thought this for a while. This is probably
- 28:59Speaker 2: one of the greatest rivalries that's been developed in our sports.
- 29:02Speaker 2: So when you look at stats like these are the
- 29:05Speaker 2: two most successful clubs in the history of some Corps
- 29:09Speaker 2: super Netball in terms of yeah finals appearances. So they're
- 29:13Speaker 2: both played in eight finals appearances in the in the
- 29:17Speaker 2: ten years of the competition.
- 29:19Speaker 1: And Fever seven in a row or something.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Like seven in a row for Fever, eight in total
- 29:25Speaker 2: for Fever and eighteen total for the Vixens, but not
- 29:27Speaker 2: seven in a row. And then you think about it
- 29:30Speaker 2: and you go like in terms of brand finals and
- 29:32Speaker 2: whilst this is only a preliminary final, but you're talking
- 29:34Speaker 2: about the history of these two clubs. They've played, i
- 29:37Speaker 2: think off in three grand finals against each other, which
- 29:41Speaker 2: is more than any other clubs had played against each other.
- 29:45Speaker 2: And yeah, there's some real there's some real sort of
- 29:48Speaker 2: background and some you know, it goes right back to
- 29:51Speaker 2: the COVID days and it started really the rivalry off
- 29:54Speaker 2: the back of that game that got canceled when the
- 29:56Speaker 2: Vixens crossed the border and they didn't come to per
- 30:00Speaker 2: and then the West Coast Fever. Refresh my memory on that.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Oh god, so there was we're in COVID during the
- 30:09Speaker 2: COVID Hub. Was it about lockdown? Ye Vixens were due
- 30:13Speaker 2: to come to Perth. Three of their players across the
- 30:16Speaker 2: border into Byron Bay and then the borders closed and
- 30:21Speaker 2: so they then crossed the Queensland New South Wales border
- 30:24Speaker 2: and then the border closed. And if you had been
- 30:27Speaker 2: in that region in the period of time you were
- 30:30Speaker 2: in lockdown, and so three of the Vixen's players were
- 30:34Speaker 2: automatically put into lockdown, and so the fight became, you know,
- 30:39Speaker 2: should you play on or shouldn't you? And so if
- 30:42Speaker 2: you're West Coast Fever and you've sold a stadium, you
- 30:45Speaker 2: expect your opposition to turn up irrespective of circumstance. And
- 30:48Speaker 2: if you're Fever, you don't sorry, And if you're Vixens,
- 30:51Speaker 2: you want to make sure that you're playing with the
- 30:54Speaker 2: best possible team you can. Anyhow, I wore a hat
- 30:57Speaker 2: that was called a general manager at that time, and
- 30:59Speaker 2: I became a very very angry, abrupt person during that period. However,
- 31:04Speaker 2: it is where the rivalry I think it started because
- 31:07Speaker 2: the game was canceled. Fever then had to fly into
- 31:10Speaker 2: Hub and then had to play a game like so
- 31:14Speaker 2: we were playing one game a week, but Fever had
- 31:17Speaker 2: to find a second game, or we're playing two games
- 31:19Speaker 2: a week or something, and Fever and Viction's had to
- 31:21Speaker 2: find an extra game in a week to play, which
- 31:24Speaker 2: was I felt a disadvantage to the West Coast Fever
- 31:28Speaker 2: given a couple of players across the border. Anyhow, depends
- 31:30Speaker 2: which side of the fence you sit on. But that's
- 31:32Speaker 2: where the rivalry started, I think between the two clubs,
- 31:34Speaker 2: and since then you've just had two clubs that, you know,
- 31:38Speaker 2: a season contenders year and year out just about and
- 31:40Speaker 2: when they come up against each other, I think you're right, Liz,
- 31:43Speaker 2: you know that it's going to be a bloody, bloodbath
- 31:45Speaker 2: battle six sided. So Sue Fever will fly across to
- 31:50Speaker 2: Melbourne for the preliminary. If you win, you'll fly back
- 31:55Speaker 2: to Perth and come back across. Was there any I assume,
- 31:58Speaker 2: was there any thought of staate? Like what do you
- 32:01Speaker 2: weigh up when you make that decision? That's a man
- 32:04Speaker 2: take money out of it, because obviously there's a cost
- 32:06Speaker 2: to having players. Yeah, but so even if yeah, like
- 32:11Speaker 2: is there an advantage would you stay? Is there advantage
- 32:13Speaker 2: to get players home into their into their homes, into
- 32:16Speaker 2: their normal routine, Like, what do you weigh up? So
- 32:19Speaker 2: the tough one with this for the West Coast Fever
- 32:23Speaker 2: is the game being on a Saturday night doesn't allow
- 32:27Speaker 2: us to get out on the same day. So we
- 32:32Speaker 2: fly today and whenever this ries, we fly today and
- 32:39Speaker 2: then play tomorrow night and then fly home Sunday morning
- 32:44Speaker 2: and we would return home. I think, just just with
- 32:50Speaker 2: the sense that people just want to be in their
- 32:51Speaker 2: own beds, and you know, like at the end of
- 32:53Speaker 2: the day, flying is flying. When you're flying after a win,
- 32:57Speaker 2: you know you're playing in a Grand Final, four hours
- 32:59Speaker 2: five hour on flights, nothing right, you don't worry about it.
- 33:03Speaker 2: But the difference also now is the league have an
- 33:06Speaker 2: expectation of clubs to arrive earlier and at this point
- 33:10Speaker 2: in time I actually can't remember exactly whether that's Wednesday
- 33:13Speaker 2: or Thursday, but because now part of the Grand Final
- 33:16Speaker 2: packages that you can purchase the rights to go to
- 33:19Speaker 2: captains runs and then there's sort of all these other
- 33:22Speaker 2: bits and pieces that captains have, photo shoots, etc. So
- 33:26Speaker 2: historically you would try and come in as late as possible,
- 33:28Speaker 2: if particularly if you're from Perth, because you're trying to
- 33:30Speaker 2: savor your time. But that's no longer the case. It's
- 33:34Speaker 2: a bit of a tough one. But at this stage
- 33:36Speaker 2: the intent would be we're returning home and then come
- 33:39Speaker 2: back if we're.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Fortunately, what's the access to training facilities? Then for you
- 33:44Speaker 1: if you're always so clearly Vixen's will be a home
- 33:47Speaker 1: and they'll have oh no, I'm wrong because I'm thinking
- 33:52Speaker 1: about a Grand Final if you're back there, if you're
- 33:53Speaker 1: back early for that, so both teams are at the
- 33:55Speaker 1: same disadvantage.
- 33:57Speaker 2: It's actually really good. It's actually a really good question.
- 34:00Speaker 2: And again GM had on when I was there. It
- 34:03Speaker 2: was one that I fought because depend each team and
- 34:07Speaker 2: this is not just a Fever centric thing, but teams
- 34:09Speaker 2: train it. You know, you have your regular or your
- 34:11Speaker 2: standard training week, and using West Coast Fever as a
- 34:15Speaker 2: case example, we would train on a Thursday evening, right,
- 34:19Speaker 2: and we're also two hours or three hours behind, depending
- 34:22Speaker 2: on which time of the season. But coming to finals,
- 34:25Speaker 2: we're two hours behind. And so whereas other teams might
- 34:29Speaker 2: train on a Thursday morning, and then if you're expected
- 34:33Speaker 2: to fly for Fever, we need to fly earlier. Again,
- 34:38Speaker 2: other teams might only might be able to fly in
- 34:40Speaker 2: on the day, so you can get your training in
- 34:42Speaker 2: on the Thursday morning. Now that might seem really simple,
- 34:45Speaker 2: that's all right, Fever, just jump on a plane, go
- 34:47Speaker 2: to Melbourne and train there. But you see, it's about
- 34:50Speaker 2: what's in your training environment. And so for West Coast Foever,
- 34:54Speaker 2: by way of example, we fundamentally rely heavily on our
- 34:59Speaker 2: training partners and our men's players who are coming to
- 35:02Speaker 2: the environment, and our greatest access to them is after
- 35:05Speaker 2: business hours on a Thursday, and it's a big product
- 35:08Speaker 2: of the Fever training environment and so then if we
- 35:11Speaker 2: have to go early, we actually lose that on our
- 35:14Speaker 2: most critical training session. So it's a bit of a
- 35:18Speaker 2: battle with the league on it. But you know, at
- 35:19Speaker 2: the end of the day, we're also an entertainment product
- 35:21Speaker 2: and you know, you've got a tick boxes and so
- 35:24Speaker 2: you manage and you find ways. So historically we've flown
- 35:28Speaker 2: in our training our men's training partners, which has been great,
- 35:31Speaker 2: but you know that costs a lot of money and
- 35:33Speaker 2: I don't know where the club will be at this
- 35:35Speaker 2: time if we're fortunate enough to get ourselves to a
- 35:37Speaker 2: grand find.
- 35:39Speaker 1: That's so if it was a Thunderbird's Fever Grand Final
- 35:43Speaker 1: in Melbourne, could you use us the Victorian men's team
- 35:48Speaker 1: to come and be training partners, Yes.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Yes, but you know, like, well you could, you could,
- 35:54Speaker 2: but it's not the same, Like you know, your training
- 35:57Speaker 2: play a role and they understand the environment and they
- 35:59Speaker 2: know yeah, like I mean you could, and historically, to
- 36:03Speaker 2: be honest with you, we actually have done that. We
- 36:04Speaker 2: did that during COVID because we couldn't get anybody, so
- 36:07Speaker 2: we did have and they were brilliant. And again and
- 36:09Speaker 2: probably a shout out to the men's game and the
- 36:11Speaker 2: boys who continually put their hand up and come into
- 36:14Speaker 2: all of the club's training environments and play formidable roles
- 36:17Speaker 2: as opposition and motivators and all that they do in
- 36:23Speaker 2: the environments. And so yeah, historically we have done that
- 36:25Speaker 2: and the boys have put their hand up and they've
- 36:27Speaker 2: come in and whatnot. But I don't know that that
- 36:30Speaker 2: works as well outside of a COVID environment. Ideally, want
- 36:33Speaker 2: you want a training environment. So that becomes a financial
- 36:37Speaker 2: decision for clubs to make depending on what's important.
- 36:41Speaker 1: And do you source the bees locally or will you
- 36:44Speaker 1: bring the bees.
- 36:46Speaker 2: On court over from Western So because we will be
- 36:50Speaker 2: getting a chartered flight over, we will. No, that's correat.
- 36:53Speaker 2: So they were the fever aviist apiarist. No. I was
- 37:00Speaker 2: just worried about all the biosecurity being broken there, So
- 37:05Speaker 2: don't juke's about security. No, we'll be picking up bees
- 37:08Speaker 2: in Melbourne, don't worry about that.
- 37:10Speaker 1: One thing I did have to ask is the world's
- 37:12Speaker 1: longest Nepele segment. But I did say we would talk
- 37:15Speaker 1: about the signings free for all. So just briefly, do
- 37:18Speaker 1: you have any sense yet so as to what sort
- 37:21Speaker 1: of when that window will be.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Or so the intention, the intention, as it always has been,
- 37:29Speaker 2: would be that the window would open after the Grand Final.
- 37:32Speaker 2: But at the moment there is still some toing and
- 37:35Speaker 2: throwing about whether that timeline will be met. I think
- 37:39Speaker 2: everyone's trying to work towards it, but a few things
- 37:44Speaker 2: have to fall into place. I guess for that to
- 37:47Speaker 2: be achieved. Will stay optimistic and hope that's the case,
- 37:51Speaker 2: because one of the difficulties, and again you know, aligning
- 37:56Speaker 2: coming off contract and going into a major tournament like
- 37:59Speaker 2: the Commonwealth Games. You know, one of the difficulty is
- 38:02Speaker 2: that the longer that gets delayed, it kind of overlaps
- 38:04Speaker 2: with some key events. But that's why players that managers
- 38:07Speaker 2: and hopefully managers can can service roles that they're supposed
- 38:12Speaker 2: to irrespective of what else is going on in the world.
- 38:14Speaker 2: So at this point in time, clubs are prepping as
- 38:19Speaker 2: per the dates, but also prepping for the fact that
- 38:22Speaker 2: there might be some some delay while you know, negotiations
- 38:26Speaker 2: continue to try and get to a point. God, what
- 38:29Speaker 2: not me?
- 38:29Speaker 1: Okay, thank you. Well, I think we'll have a quick
- 38:31Speaker 1: break and we'll come back for our final segment. Okay,
- 38:47Speaker 1: I have the things that make you go. It's a
- 38:57Speaker 1: brief one, but I think it's appropriate given the what
- 38:59Speaker 1: we've talked about where I'm actually looking for Jarti Susan's
- 39:02Speaker 1: views on this one. So on the weekend I watched
- 39:06Speaker 1: the Super Rugby Final and that was played in New
- 39:10Speaker 1: Zealand between two New Zealand teams, none of the Australian
- 39:12Speaker 1: teams qualified for but in the opening package beforehand, this
- 39:16Speaker 1: made me go, hmm, they went through all of the
- 39:19Speaker 1: years of Super Rugby and all of the teams that
- 39:22Speaker 1: had played it except if an Australian team had won
- 39:26Speaker 1: in that year. Then they just pretended that year didn't exist.
- 39:29Speaker 1: They only put up So this is the Sky Sports
- 39:33Speaker 1: package opening package, So the equivalent of Fox doing something
- 39:36Speaker 1: for netball and just going well, let's just pretend that
- 39:39Speaker 1: never happened because I don't like X y Z team,
- 39:41Speaker 1: so they just completely erased Australia from and like, to
- 39:45Speaker 1: be fair, there's only about in that fifteen or twenty
- 39:48Speaker 1: not more. Order raise there's not many, no, but it's like, well,
- 39:52Speaker 1: you know, I worked for the Brumbies for several years
- 39:55Speaker 1: where they won the Super Rugby finals. That no mention
- 39:57Speaker 1: of it, no mention of when the Warratas won it.
- 40:00Speaker 1: It's just love.
- 40:00Speaker 2: It did not exist. Made me go, do you know?
- 40:04Speaker 2: As you know part of the way I earned my
- 40:06Speaker 2: living history of keynote speaking. And if you listen to
- 40:10Speaker 2: my kenote speech, you could be forgiven to think that
- 40:12Speaker 2: the two thousand and three World Cup never happened. S
- 40:16Speaker 2: fair it up, But I was actually going to say,
- 40:22Speaker 2: all the more reason for them to actually put in
- 40:25Speaker 2: when an Australian side one, because at highlights, it's like
- 40:27Speaker 2: going back to the ams ED Championship days. These magic
- 40:30Speaker 2: were the only team that make finals and actually won
- 40:33Speaker 2: a premiership in the eleven years or how many years
- 40:36Speaker 2: the championship. So you don't shy away from that. You say,
- 40:38Speaker 2: well done, but you know the other team wrong my bone? Yeah,
- 40:42Speaker 2: pat him on the head.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Oh look, even sometimes the Australians had managed to do
- 40:47Speaker 1: okay in it. But I thought, imagine how wild the
- 40:50Speaker 1: keywis would be if an Australian broadcast did do that,
- 40:53Speaker 1: and just went you do not exist here.
- 40:56Speaker 2: That to happen. I find that really hurrigant. Yeah, anyhow,
- 40:59Speaker 2: and well, I.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Mean clearly they're clearly marketing to a particular audience, like
- 41:06Speaker 1: there wouldn't have been I mean, there's not men Australians
- 41:08Speaker 1: watching Super Roupy as far as I can tell anyway,
- 41:10Speaker 1: But like you know, there wouldn't have been many Australians
- 41:13Speaker 1: who watched it. But you know, we certainly did. Hear
- 41:16Speaker 1: my mum lives in Wellington. Hurricanes wonn't convincingly, but you know,
- 41:20Speaker 1: just interested in rugby, we would.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Have watched it anyway.
- 41:22Speaker 1: But it was just funny to watch the opening package
- 41:24Speaker 1: and go, hello, I thought this was a transtasment competition,
- 41:28Speaker 1: but apparently I'm wrong.
- 41:31Speaker 2: If you win, yeah, well that's that's I think you've
- 41:34Speaker 2: just nailed it there for me. If you're going to
- 41:36Speaker 2: open your competition up to others around the world, you
- 41:39Speaker 2: accept that straight away, do you know? Years ago at
- 41:43Speaker 2: the twenty fifteen World cuff I was commentating with Jenny
- 41:45Speaker 2: Woods the final and so as host broadcaster, our commentary
- 41:50Speaker 2: went to both New Zealand and Australia, and back then
- 41:53Speaker 2: I had Twitter, I don't have Twitter anymore, and I
- 41:56Speaker 2: got all these filthy messages from Kiwi's yelling at me
- 42:00Speaker 2: for not cheering for the New Zealand team.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Then you need to be encouraged. I'm like, bat, I'm like,
- 42:05Speaker 3: this broadcast goes everywhere. I'm trying, like I'm giving obviously
- 42:09Speaker 3: given Australian perspective, but like they were really upt me
- 42:13Speaker 3: for not cheering, and I'm being more vocal about cheering.
- 42:16Speaker 2: And I've got to explain a story. I'm going to
- 42:20Speaker 2: tell this story in a way to keep it interesting.
- 42:24Speaker 2: But I'm not going to throw that person under the
- 42:26Speaker 2: bus because I did that live on air. But I
- 42:33Speaker 2: World Cup South Africa, Last World Cup South Africa. So
- 42:37Speaker 2: I was with the host broadcaster and called a lot
- 42:41Speaker 2: of the Aussie games and then we would usually have
- 42:45Speaker 2: a non Australian sitting as expert, and then depending it
- 42:49Speaker 2: might have we had Maddie Brown over there with us.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Maddie might have been on the sideline or whatever. Anyhow,
- 42:54Speaker 2: we got to one of the bigger games. Missus good.
- 42:56Speaker 2: You know, dwindled down, folks, You'll figure this out. So
- 42:59Speaker 2: I got to one of the bigger games and I
- 43:01Speaker 2: was commentating with someone from the opposing country. So it
- 43:05Speaker 2: was Australia and someone from the opposing country and not
- 43:09Speaker 2: an overly experienced commentator, and we're going through the game
- 43:14Speaker 2: and Australia were killing it like they were doing a
- 43:19Speaker 2: really good job. And so and I pride myself and
- 43:22Speaker 2: I don't care who's playing. I just call the game
- 43:24Speaker 2: as I see it. But my co commentator decided that
- 43:28Speaker 2: that wasn't the case and was very patriotic in moments
- 43:32Speaker 2: that just didn't deserve patriotism, and so I just called
- 43:38Speaker 2: it on air. I just had had enough and I
- 43:40Speaker 2: was just like, get off your I actually said the country,
- 43:43Speaker 2: get off your something high horse, and call the game
- 43:47Speaker 2: as you see it. And anyhow, she wrote to the
- 43:50Speaker 2: executive producer and I got kicked off the Grisian final
- 43:53Speaker 2: port you jeez.
- 43:56Speaker 1: No, And I just wondered why you went to Yeah, yeah,
- 44:01Speaker 1: it was crazy.
- 44:02Speaker 2: So anyhow, it's a bit of controversy over in South Africa.
- 44:04Speaker 2: But anyhow, lots goes on in the background. But yeah,
- 44:07Speaker 2: I just like, you know, like if you're going to commentate,
- 44:09Speaker 2: it's it's really important that you go in and you
- 44:11Speaker 2: call it as you see it, unless you're an Australian like,
- 44:14Speaker 2: so when Kath Cox and Kim Green call the Aussie game,
- 44:18Speaker 2: that is for Australian audiences. So you call the hell
- 44:21Speaker 2: out of Australia, right, But when you're going to listen
- 44:23Speaker 2: to my commentary over at the Calm Games, I'm neutral,
- 44:26Speaker 2: So I will call what I see. You know that
- 44:28Speaker 2: we just have a little moment. Who at Channel seven
- 44:34Speaker 2: didn't do their research? And I've let you as I
- 44:38Speaker 2: wouldn't end be Channel seven, you must be host broadcast?
- 44:40Speaker 2: So who is that you? And that's great, isn't it
- 44:43Speaker 2: someone who was the host broadcast? So didn't actually just google? Who?
- 44:49Speaker 2: The two? Who are the two of the naughtiest girls
- 44:51Speaker 2: in netble? Oh, let's put them together.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I was going to talk before when we were talking
- 44:55Speaker 1: about the Netball Hub where Sho's having this terrible time
- 44:58Speaker 1: as GM and you and Cath are just on the
- 45:00Speaker 1: pierce except for the four hours a day that you
- 45:02Speaker 1: commentated to hang on.
- 45:03Speaker 2: I've got video called GYPSU on the piers sometimes. Yeah,
- 45:07Speaker 2: every so often that stuff pops up? Is that me
- 45:12Speaker 2: and I Yoda? Do you remember when I had the
- 45:15Speaker 2: blanket over me with So I'm trying to bring my
- 45:18Speaker 2: husband going. You know, I really miss you. It's a
- 45:21Speaker 2: terrible Meanwhile, we're like Sue be Yoda. Yes, no they have.
- 45:29Speaker 2: They've let Cat and Eye into Glasgow to we've been
- 45:31Speaker 2: We've been messaging back and forth. Cat actually has a
- 45:34Speaker 2: flight at this point in time on Friday. I simply don't,
- 45:37Speaker 2: so I don't even know if I'm going, but I
- 45:39Speaker 2: hope I get a flight soon. But I mean so,
- 45:41Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to it. I haven't had a lot
- 45:43Speaker 2: of time next to Cat. We always message each other
- 45:46Speaker 2: and we laugh at each other's jokes occasionally. Well, I'm
- 45:50Speaker 2: quite looking forward to Yeah, it should be fun. And
- 45:54Speaker 2: then I will switch to I'll have to switch between
- 45:56Speaker 2: you two and Kathy Kim how Australian of course you
- 46:02Speaker 2: in the Bears.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Well, I'm not surprised you haven't had much time to
- 46:06Speaker 1: think about the Colm games. You've got a lot on
- 46:08Speaker 1: and we're very, very very grateful that you have given
- 46:11Speaker 1: us this time. Live from your flight over the Nullaball
- 46:14Speaker 1: plane heading to Melbourne. I hope it is a good
- 46:19Speaker 1: trip just for everyone. Our tickets to our Grand final
- 46:23Speaker 1: E function, must I stop selling. I've had to negotiate.
- 46:27Speaker 1: I've had to beg for the venue to let us
- 46:29Speaker 1: go through until Monday, the twenty night the June, but
- 46:31Speaker 1: we have to stop selling that day at midday because
- 46:33Speaker 1: I have to give them final numbers. So if you
- 46:37Speaker 1: are intending to come, and we have some amazing guests,
- 46:40Speaker 1: so god In is going to come and join us too.
- 46:43Speaker 1: We have some awesome other surprise guests, big prizes, good times.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Jump on trybooking and get your ticket. Please do come
- 46:51Speaker 1: and join us. It's it's a super fun event, isn't it.
- 46:54Speaker 2: So it's just super fun. Ev me or be there?
- 46:56Speaker 2: Oh there?
- 46:57Speaker 1: Maybe there are no ticket sales at the door. You
- 47:00Speaker 1: must buy them before midday on Monday, the twenty ninth
- 47:03Speaker 1: of June. But that is all we have time for.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Ah, that's good. I think something made a noise. Then
- 47:12Speaker 2: I've got a wi and I didn't want to do
- 47:14Speaker 2: a hat Cox and go meet out, So you don't
- 47:16Speaker 2: want to do a cat Cox.
- 47:17Speaker 1: But here's to a final penalty penultimate round of super netbaal.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Let it be an extraordinary one. Thanks for joining us.
- 47:25Speaker 1: I'm Carolyn Svindel, Misealos' only su bye think okay, So
- 47:35Speaker 1: this is the bit right at the end of the
- 47:36Speaker 1: show where we say something really funny, so ready go
- 47:43Speaker 1: not knock? Oh great, who's there?
- 47:46Speaker 2: I do do you know what? I do? Not know
- 47:47Speaker 2: and not knocked joke? Do you know I'm not knock joke?
- 47:51Speaker 1: Well, I do know what, but it's not very nice,
- 47:54Speaker 1: so I'm not going to tell it. I told it
- 47:56Speaker 1: at the bob Or Brewery a couple of weeks ago,
- 47:57Speaker 1: and Cats really wanted me to tell the story. I'm here,
- 47:59Speaker 1: but it's like, no, it's not particularly for people who
- 48:02Speaker 1: were religious, it's not. But no, why did Why don't
- 48:10Speaker 1: gingerbread ladies wear skirts?
- 48:13Speaker 2: I don't know. Why don't gingerbread ladies?
- 48:15Speaker 1: I've got crumbing legs.
- 48:18Speaker 2: That's how you'd be a professional stand up comedian. All right,
- 48:21Speaker 2: Thanks by
